 [ Birds chirping ]

Jackie: Good morning.

Deacon: Jackie?

Jackie: Mm-hmm?

Deacon: Please tell me you're not ready again.

Jackie: It's your fault. For making it so much fun.

Deacon: A little different than last time we woke up here, huh?

Jackie: Oh, yeah. A lot of things have changed since then.

Deacon: Changed for the better.

Jackie: It's too early to make promises -- but I like you, Deacon. And I love spending time with you.

Deacon: I kinda gathered that.

Jackie: Not just because of this -- but because you've shown me something -- will you stop! You have such a dirty mind! What I was going to say was -- a broken heart -- doesn't necessarily mean a broken spirit, and you have shown me that. And -- I know just how to thank you.

Deacon: Mmm. I like the sound of that.

Model: How do you do it?

Ridge: How do I do what?

Model: Improve upon perfection.

Ridge: The dress or the model. They are fairly brilliant, aren't they? But I can't take total credit for this, though. It's mostly my dad's handiwork.

Model #2: Is Eric at the hospital now?

Eric: Yeah, he is.

Model #2: I still can't believe Rick was hit by a car.

Eric: Yeah, you're not the only one. Hey.

Ridge: Hi, Dad.

Eric: Actually he's doing better now. His lung is inflating all by itself, so.

Ridge: Oh, thank god for that.

Eric: Yeah. They're running some more tests right now, so I thought I'd come by and take a look, see how things are going. Check it out, and I like what I see.

Ridge: Collection's really coming together here.

Eric: Mmm. Simple, elegant -- Forrester getting back to its roots. I just wish Rick and Thorne were here to share in all of this.

Ridge: Well, obviously you haven't heard --

[ Buzzer sounds ]Rick: Yeah, Megan? Still, no comment. All right.

Eric: Who's calling?

Ridge: The press. Nonstop. Girls, will you give us a minute?

Model: Sure.

Ridge: Thank you.

Eric: What's going on?

Ridge: They're calling about Thorne.

Eric: Still? It must be a very slow news day.

Ridge: Actually, the press is having a field day with this one, Dad.

Eric: All right, well, don't let it get to you, Ridge. Now, come on. Thorne will be back here before you know it. The fact is, I was thinking about talking to him today about expanding his role here at Forrester.

Ridge: Oh, come on --

Eric: Don't give me a hard time about this, all right? Whatever it is he does here is not going to interfere with your creativity. We're just going to expand his responsibilities.

Ridge: Well, apparently, Thorne has some different ideas going.

Eric: Did you talk to him?

Ridge: No, I read it in this morning's paper. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, especially after your night last night.

[Thorne remembering]

Eric: You're both incredibly

important to me.

I want you both to stay.

But if I have to choose --

I choose Ridge.

Thorne: No one to blame but themselves.

Darla: So you're really going through with this?

Thorne: It's all over the news, honey. I can't turn back now.

Darla: Well, you could if you wanted to. Sally would understand.

Thorne: No. I need to do this for me.

Darla: Thorne, is this place really you?

Thorne: Aren't you the one who encouraged me to take the bull by the horns and to show everyone what I'm capable of?

Darla: Yes, yes I did. At Forrester.

Thorne: Well, I think we both know how that turned out.

Darla: Honey, that doesn't necessarily mean that you should work for their archrival.

Thorne: You know what? Their "archrival" believes in me more than they ever did.

Darla: Thorne, I love sally, I adore her, you know that. But to go and work with her, to turn your back on your family -- it's not going to make the pain go away.

Thorne: Oh, I don't know. I'm feeling pretty damn good right now.

Darla: Are you? Really?

Thorne: Yes. Yes, I am. Do you remember my old office at Forrester? How dark and gloomy it was, like a dungeon? Well, it's nice to finally see the light.

Darla: I know. But, baby, I just don't want you to do anything you might regret.

Thorne: No, I'm not the one who's going to have regrets.

Darla: What do you mean by that?

Thorne: I mean that I'm going to do whatever it takes to make spectra the preeminent fashion house in L.A.

Clarke: That's what we want to hear. That's what we're counting on -- Mr. President.

Jackie: Two, three -- you've done it! Okay, this way -- uh-uh, don't hit the chair.

Deacon: You are so kinky.

[ Laughter ] All right, now uh --

Jackie: You just wait.

Deacon: You sure I'm going to like this, right?

Jackie: Yes, sit down.

Deacon: All right, baby, let the games begin.

Jackie: All right. Viola.

Deacon: You know, you know, Jackie, when that you were ravenous, I thought you had something else in mind.

Jackie: Well, all I ask is that you just keep an open mind and thank heavens I didn't cook this food.

Deacon: Where -- where the hell did you find a place that delivers English food around here?

Jackie: Ooh.

Deacon: What is this?

Jackie: There's a lot I can teach you.

Deacon: I bet, what is this?

Jackie: This is -- spotted dick.

Deacon: Yeah, they got penicillin for that.

Jackie: Try it. It's delicacy. It's delicious, isn't it?

Deacon: Um, I can see why you moved to the states.

Jackie: Okay, next.

Deacon: What is this stuff?

Jackie: Bangers.

Deacon: I like the sound of that.

Jackie: Um-hmm, they grow on you.

Deacon: I'm sure they do.

Jackie: And this one is -- toad in the hole, which do you prefer?

Deacon: I think I'm going to go with the Bangers.

Jackie: I thought you might. Try the Bangers. It's good.

Deacon: It's good -- it's heavy.

Jackie: Okay.

Deacon: Scones. These I love. I know these.

Jackie: Yeah, they were Nicky's favorite -- when he was little.

Deacon: Hey, listen, come on, listen, don't even do that. You know. He's uh -- he's going to come around.

Jackie: He hasn't returned a single one of my phone calls.

Deacon: He hasn't returned a single phone call yet, Jackie, give him time. You know --

Jackie: It's been so long. If I end up losing Nicky because of my stupidity, I am never ever, ever going to forgive myself.

Eric: Thorne at Spectra?

Ridge: Unbelievable, huh?

Eric: I don't believe it.

Ridge: Yeah, well, I thought it was a rumor, too. So I called Jarrett at "eye on fashion."

Eric: You did? What'd he say?

Ridge: Apparently, spectra's press release went out last night. Thorne issued a statement about "setting new standards of excellence." The guy's trying to stick it to us here.

Eric: No. No, that's not it, ridge.

Ridge: Well, what you'd call it then?

Eric: This is a cry for help. Something that your mother and I should have listened to a long time ago.

Ridge: Dad, this is not your fault. Thorne drew the line in the sand, you know? He didn't leave you much choice, did he?

Eric: We should've had a one-on-one with him a long time ago. Made a more concerted effort to expand his role here at Forrester. And that's exactly what I'm going to do right now.

Thorne: Clarke, what are you talking about? How can you make me president?

Clarke: It's easy. I just did.

Thorne: Well, look, I appreciate the vote of confidence, okay? But I think Sally would have something to say about that.

Clarke: Oh you bet, she had plenty to say about it. I'll quote her directly -- "you tell that handsome devil, Thorne Forrester, that he's president -- pronto!" And in fact she said you better crack the whip while she's gone.

[ Laughter ]

Thorne: Gone? What do you mean, gone?

Clarke: Oh she's in bed with a broken leg.

Thorne: What?

Clarke: Don't worry. She'll be just fine. I told her those yoga classes were a mistake.

Darla: Oh my god. You're kidding me, she's confined to bed? She must be going stir crazy.

Clarke: She's driving everybody else stir crazy, I can tell you that. But she is disappointed about one thing -- she wanted to be able to congratulate you in person, Thorne. But you know Sally -- business as usual. Beginning with the number one item on her to-do list -- she wanted me to take care of this. Congratulations, Thorne.

[ Applause ]Clark: I think I speak for sally and for everyone here when I say that we feel fortunate to have the future of this company in your hands.

[ Applause ]

Thorne: Thank you for the kind words, but I'm the one who's fortunate. And damned impressed -- by all of you, Spectra Fashions. That debutante line -- you guys ate our lunch. And my guess is you're still hungry.

Bob: Oh you know it. Time to feast on the Forrester buffet, huh, Mr. President?

Darla: Thorne -- Fforrester? You wouldn't --

Clarke: What will it be, Tthorne? More cheap knock-offs?

Thorne: No. Sally and I have decided that is all in Spectra's past.

Clark: What do you mean?

Thorne: Well, quality is what sells in this business, and it's what's going to make us the premier fashion house in L.A., Okay? Now, I have been in touch with all Forrester's vendors and major suppliers. They're going to work with us. We're going to have fabric better than Forrester, and we're going to a production line better than Forrester. And our copies are going to be top notch. They're going to be better than the originals, people.

[ Cheers and applause ]

Darla: Honey, they could come after you. You know that. They could prosecute --

Thorne: Yeah, well you let 'em try, 'cause we'll be ready for them. But I will tell you this, they won't be ready for us. Because they have underestimated spectra fashions just the way they've underestimated me. And we're going to use that to our advantage. We're going to the top, people, and they can't stop us.

Eric: You're wrong, Thorne. I'm going to put a stop to this right now. Skippy snack bar!

Jackie: Oh, I've missed the ocean breeze.

Deacon: That's right. You used to live in the Forrester beach house, didn't you?

Jackie: Yeah, right up until I married Massimo. Oh, that seems so long ago now.

Deacon: Had no idea what you were in for, did you?

Jackie: I had no doubts. Eric tried to warn me, though.

Deacon: Oh yeah, I bet he did.

Jackie: Massimo was the love of my life.

Deacon: Was. Past tense.

Jackie: You know -- when you see something that is just so lovely, and you want it so much and -- you don't get it right away, and you dream about it, and it just becomes more and more perfect in your mind, and -- when you finally do get it, it can't possibly live up to your expectations, can it?

Deacon: So, Massimo wasn't all that, huh?

Jackie: It was unfair of me to expect him to be my knight in shining armor, just because he's Nicky's father.

Deacon: If you ask me, it sounds like he had some pretty unfair expectations himself, wouldn't you say?

Jackie: I don't think that they were unreasonable at the time -- but now, oh now, it frightens me so much. To realize how hard I was trying to be just what he wanted, and how quickly I changed.

Deacon: So you were both working on making him happy? Jackie, I've got to ask -- who was making you happy? I mean here you are, you're finally married to the man of your dreams -- and I'm going to bet that you were never -- never so lonely in your life.

Thorne: Dad? You shouldn't be here.

Eric: Neither should you. And I have to read about it in a newspaper?

Thorne: You might want to get used to that, because I plan on making a lot of headlines here.

Eric: What, here? At Spectra, of all places? They're in the grand larceny business here. It's a felony to be in this building.

Thorne: It was good enough for Ridge.

Ridge: It was different, Thorne. I owned the company, and we weren't in the business of profiting from stolen designs.

Thorne: You think that's what I'm going to be doing?

Eric: Of course not. What I hope you'll be doing is coming back to us, where you belong.

Thorne: It took an article in the paper for you to come and talk to me?

Eric: I was trying to give you some space, you know that.

Thorne: Now, what you want is for me to hop in the back seat again.

Eric: You don't have to be the president of a company to make your mark.

Thorne: Maybe not. But it can't hurt.

Ridge: That's right. Sally offered me the same position here.

Eric: Thorne, come on. She's just talking advantage of you. It's just a publicity ploy.

Clarke: Eric, with all due respect, you're wrong about that. Sally truly believes in Thorne.

Thorne: And she's offering me more than you ever have.

Ridge: Thorne, please. Come back. We need you, this family needs you.

Thorne: You have no idea how long I've waited to hear those words. But it's too little, too late.

Eric: So that's it? You're turning your back on us?

Thorne: As someone once said to me, "don't take it personally. It's strictly business."

Eric: Well, you may have given up on me, son. I will never give up on you.

Jackie: After struggling for so long as a single mother, I actually thought that Massimo was going to be my refuge. I'd have a family, you know? Someone to love. Someone to take care of me.

Deacon: Well, that was your first mistake. Jackie, you are a strong woman. You're independent. You can take care of yourself. You don't have to live your life -- not for your son, not for you husband -- you gotta live it for Jackie.

Jackie: Jackie? I don't even know who she is anymore.

Deacon: Isn't it going to be amazing to find out?

Jackie: Actually, it's a scary prospect.

Deacon: Nah, come on, it's going to be liberating. Don't you think?

Jackie: I never thought I'd say this -- but I'm having fun.

Deacon: Me, too.

Ridge: Well, I do hope you're proud of yourself now.

Thorne: I'm getting there.

Ridge: Did you see dad and what you're doing to him?

Thorne: What I'm doing to him?

Ridge: Picked a hell of a way to get his attention, Thorne.

Thorne: That's not what this is about, Ridge.

Ridge: Well, then, why don't explain it to me, 'cause I don't get it.

Thorne: You know what? Why would you even care? You should be thrilled that I'm out of the picture.

Ridge: I don't like seeing you here, Thorne, any more than dad does. You're better than this.

Thorne: I'm going to be running the preeminent fashion house in Los Angeles, Ridge.

Ridge: Oh, my mistake. I thought you were working at Spectra.

Thorne: You know what? You enjoy it while you can. 'Cause we'll wipe that smirk off your face soon enough.

Ridge: Sure, how can you lose? With a crackerjack team like this? A washed-up designer, a dim-witted ex-secretary -- and a very bitter Irish woman. Dad and I should be throwing in the towels right now.

Thorne: It would be the smartest thing you could do, 'cause only one of us is going to survive, and there's no way you can top us.

Ridge: You don't think so?

Thorne: We have resources you can't even imagine, Ridge.

Ridge: We given you every opportunity to come back to the winning team. Don't forget that. And don't come crying to us when you fall on your face.

Thorne: Don't worry. It won't happen.

[ Everyone chanting "Thorne" ]

Darla: Mr. President?

Thorne: Our day is coming. Sooner than they think.

[ Laughter and applause ]

[ More chanting ]
