Eric: I want an answer right now. You put my son in that hospital bed, didn't you?

Samantha: Eric, what are you saying? It's because of Hector that Rick's still alive.

Eric: Yeah, so we're led to believe. Yeah.

Ridge: The police report tells a slightly different story, doesn't it?

Eric: All of us thanking you for saving his life, and you're the one who ran him over!

Samantha: Hector?

Hector: It's true. I'm the one who hit Rick.

Deacon: Jackie --

Jackie: I know, I know.

Deacon: What's the big deal? Come on, it's a little signature. It's two words on a piece of paper.

Jackie: Two words that are going to change my life forever.

Deacon: Jackie, you'll be divorced. Big deal. Join the club.

Jackie: Club? It's not exactly a club that I aspired to.

Deacon: Hey, I thought that you were ready to move on.

Jackie: I got cold feet.

Deacon: Well, you know, I can warm them up for you if you want me to.

Jackie: Deacon, please don't confuse me.

Deacon: Jackie, what are you confused about here? I don't understand. You've got a husband that wants out. You've got a, look at me, you've got a guy that wants in. All you got to do is just make it official.

Caitlin: You hold on to that, okay? I am not going anywhere. And as soon as you're out of here, we're going to be spending more time together. No more hiding or sneaking around.

Rick: Your dad --

Caitlin: Shh. No, no, no. Please don't try to talk. The doctor would be really upset. And you don't have to worry about my dad. He knows now, and he doesn't like it, but he's just going to have to deal. My mom's on our side, and dad will come around. He just has to get used to the fact that there's a new man in my life now. He really is a great guy. You saw that tonight when he saved your life. That's the kind of person he is.

Rick: He was --

Caitlin: Shh. You'll have plenty of time to say everything that you want.

Eric: All right, you tell me how this happened.

Ridge: The police say he was in his own driveway.

Hector: Yeah, that's true. But the rain was coming down so hard.

Eric: And what? You didn't see him?

Hector: He was wearing a dark coat. My car was on him before I had a chance to react.

Eric: How fast were you going? My god, my son is in there with two broken ribs and a collapsed lung. You weren't doing five miles an hour!

Hector: No, sir.

Eric: So you were speeding. Why?

Hector: I had to get something straight with Rick. I wasn't thinking clearly.

Eric: Well that much is obvious.

Hector: If you had been in my place --

Eric: In your place? What are you talking about?

Hector: Look, I am sorry that this happened. But I had a good reason to be upset.

Eric: What, because of Caitlin and Rick?

Samantha: You know?

Eric: Yes. I know about that.

Hector: But you didn't stop it. And neither did you! Our daughter is a teenager.

Eric: Hector, my son is a good man. He's not going to take advantage of her.

Hector: Then what was Caitlin doing in his bed tonight?

Eric: Caitlin and he were --

Hector: That's why I raced up there. To keep your son's hands off my little girl.

Deacon: Jackie, what are you waiting for? What do you think? Massimo's going to show up and get down on his knees and beg you to come back?

Jackie: Well, stranger things have happened.

Deacon: Okay, let's look at this logically. First of all, he hasn't even contacted you since he threw these divorce papers in your face, has he? And, secondly, come on, I mean, you've got to be honest, you didn't exactly have a great marriage.

Jackie: Yes, I did. For a while.

Deacon: I know. This guy blew into town and he swept you off your feet and he made you feel special, and he made you feel important and, most of all, he left you with a son.

Jackie: The greatest gift that anyone's ever given me.

Deacon: And you spent your whole life trying to get back together. But you have to ask yourself something, did it really measure up? Was it paradise? Or was it a prison? You became Mrs. Massimo Marone instead of Jackie Payne. I mean, come on, shut the door on this. Kiss these memories good-bye. You need to start living in the here and now. And I've got to tell you something, Jackie, it is a helluva lot more fun. You know, you're not going to wake up someday and say to yourself, "what if." "What if I had the guts. And why, why didn't I listen to deacon, that genius!"

[ Jackie laughs ] I mean, trust me, set yourself free. Get out of jail.

Jackie: And then what? Play house with you?

Deacon: I'm not playing, Jackie. See? The weight is lifting already, isn't it? Come here, baby. Come here. I know. I know.

Caitlin: We're really lucky, you know? The doctor said your lung may even inflate on its own. Sorry. I just can't help it. When I think of what happened, it makes me sick thinking whoever did this to you is still out there.

Rick: Dad. Dad.

Eric: Are you sure about this?

Hector: Caitlin told me herself. She and Rick came this close to sleeping together.

Ridge: They didn't go through with it?

Samantha: No.

Hector: If Thomas hadn't showed up at the firehouse --

Ridge: Thomas?

Hector: He told me what Rick and Caitlin were up to. What everyone else seems to have known.

Samantha: Hector came home looking for Caitlin.

Hector: Only she wasn't there. She was being lured up to your son's bedroom.

Eric: Oh, come on, Rick is not some kind of a predator.

Hector: If Samantha hadn't reached Caitlin and gotten her out of there --

Eric: You don't know that anything would have happened.

Hector: Oh, don't I? Caitlin made it very clear. And Rick is lucky I didn't go to the police.

Eric: He's lucky? He's in there trying to breathe right now!

Ridge: Dad, take it easy.

Eric: God, I should have you arrested! You know that?

Hector: You don't want to do that.

Samantha: Hey, you're both overreacting! Stop it!

Ridge: Come on. Samantha's right. We need you to step back and calm down here. Look, nobody wants Caitlin growing up too fast. I'm going through the same thing with Thomas. I know where you're coming from here. What we need to do is to think rationally, calm down and just work together, okay?

Hector: Now you want to work together! I asked you for help, Ridge, remember? I begged you to watch out for my little girl. And you gave me your word. Well, we both know what that really meant.

Caitlin: Rick, calm down. You're supposed to take it easy.

Rick: Dad.

Caitlin: You want your dad? Okay, I'll go get him. He's been waiting to see you.

Rick: Your dad.

Caitlin: You want to see my dad? You do or you don't?

Rick: Hit me.

Caitlin: I'm sorry. I don't understand what you're trying to say.

Rick: He hit me.

Caitlin: He hit -- no. No. I don't believe you. My dad didn't do this. He didn't do this. He couldn't have.

Hector: You promised you'd take care of her.

Samantha: Ridge did what he could.

Hector: Every instinct was screaming at me to get Caty out of there. But I kept hearing your words. "Don't worry, she'll be fine." You changed her hair, you put her in front of those cameras with all that make-up in dresses that barely covered her. But I said, it's okay, you know, he knows what he's doing. You plastered her picture in all the magazines, on the billboards, but I said it's cool 'cause ridge has got her back.

Ridge: I thought I had the situation under control.

Hector: You knew what Rick was up to! And you should've put a stop to it.

Ridge: I told Rick to stay the hell away from Caitlin.

Hector: That's it?

Ridge: Look, he's my wife's son. He's stubborn as hell. There's only so much I could do.

Hector: Oh, I see. It would've made things uncomfortable at home.

Ridge: I told Caitlin she had to be honest with you.

Hector: No, you should've been honest with me. You should have told me from the very beginning that you didn't give a damn about my daughter. She's changed so much, I barely recognize her. And I can't believe I'm the one who put her in your hands!

Ridge: You're right, Hector. I should've done more.

Eric: Ridge --

Ridge: No, dad. If Thomas was in Caitlin's position, I would -- I let you down. It sure as hell won't happen again.

Hector: No, it won't. And I'll make sure of it this time.

Samantha: Hector, what're you going to do?

Eric: You're going to stay the hell away from my son!

Hector: I'm going to do whatever I have to do. What the both of you should've done.

Eric: Oh, come on, Hector.

Hector: You know what it takes to ruin a life? One mistake. Just one. And I see it every day at work. And I'm not going to let that happen to my daughter.

Eric: Rick doesn't want that to happen to her! Rick cares for her very much, obviously.

Hector: Anybody who cared for her, wouldn't have let things go this far. Well I'm going to make sure they don't go any further. Whatever it takes. Now, I regret what happened to your son. But I don't regret what I went up there to do. And I'll do it again if I have to.

Caitlin: It was you. You did is to Rick?

Hector: Honey --

Caitlin: Answer me.

Hector: I didn't mean to hurt him.

Caitlin: You could've killed him.

Hector: Caty, it was an accident.

Caitlin: Was it? You wanted him dead, didn't you? You wanted him dead.

Deacon: You are -- you are amazing.

Jackie: Thank you. And thank you for encouraging me. To face the truth. My marriage was a failure.

Deacon: Jackie, if you ask me, I think Massimo blew it.

Jackie: Well, it wasn't just him. I gave him so many reasons to turn against me. Him and nicky.

Deacon: Hey, listen, Nick will come around. You know, look what he did for me and hope.

Jackie: That was just a little bit different.

Deacon: Still. I think he's a good guy. And I know he loves you. I could talk to him, if you want.

Jackie: No.

Deacon: Hey, look, I'm a giver. I'm just trying to help. You know, that's who I am.

Jackie: I know. You really are a very sensitive man.

Deacon: I think there'd probably be a lot of people who'd be surprised to hear you say that.

Jackie: Yeah? Then a lot of people do not know the real you.

Deacon: You know all about playing a role, don't you? You've been doing it for a long time.

Jackie: And very badly.

Deacon: No, come on, be proud of it.

Jackie: Proud?

Deacon: Who the hell could live that way? Are you kidding me? No real woman could.

Jackie: Thank you. Oh, Deacon, what are we doing?

Deacon: We are doing whatever we want. Jackie, there's nothing wrong with that.

Jackie: Then why does it feel so sinful?

Deacon: Hey, Jackie, sinful can be very, very good. If you don't believe me, I'm just going to have to show you again. And again. And again.

Hector: Listen to me, Caty.

Samantha: Your dad's telling the truth. It was an accident.

Caitlin: I saw him when he ran out of the house. That look in his eye, remember? You wanted this to happen!

Hector: I went to talk to him, that's all.

Caitlin: You ran him over!

Ridge: He was just going too fast.

Hector: I wasn't thinking. It happened before I knew it.

Caitlin: I am so sorry --

Eric: So am I, honey, so am I.

Hector: Caitlin --

Caitlin: I don't want to hear it. No more speeches about how you're trying to protect me. I love him! You knew that, and this is what you do?

Hector: It was an accident!

Caitlin: You shouldn't have gone over there in the first place.

Hector: After what you told me?

Caitlin: I told you he was a wonderful man who cared about me! Mom did, too! Oh, but you knew so much better.

Hector: I have more experience.

Caitlin: Not with Rick, you don't. He has been kind, and gentle, and protective. Like, really protective, not like you. He cares about what I think, and what I want. Oh, but that's just an act, right? Just to get me into bed.

Hector: Well, if it was, it worked, didn't it?

Samantha: Hector.

Eric: That's not my son.

Caitlin: And that's not your daughter, either. Not that you'd know. You are so convinced that my hormones have taken over. Well, what's your excuse, huh? You have turned your back on everything that you taught me to believe in. That we're all equal. The only thing that matters is who you are inside. Not where you live, or how much money you have, or who your parents are -- Mom's parents hated you because you were poor and nobody. And you hate Rick because he's rich and famous.

Hector: I don't hate anyone.

Caitlin: I used to think that. I used to believe every word you said. But as little faith as you have in me right now -- I have even less in you.

Hector: Caty, it's been a long night. We don't we just go home. We can talk about this in the morning.

Caitlin: I am not going anywhere with you.

Samantha: Sweetheart --

Caitlin: No.

Eric: She'll be fine. We'll take care of her.

Samantha: Come on. Let's go.

Eric: Okay. Okay. All right. It's gonna be okay, it's gonna be okay. You'll see.
