Eric: How the hell can we be expected to choose one son over the other?

Stephanie: This isn't the first time they've butted heads. They've always managed to work it out.

Eric: Stephanie, this is not which boy gets the better bike.

Stephanie: I know that.

Eric: I mean, my god, Thorne is starting fistfights. Ridge can't even be in the same room as Darla. We have to do something before this family falls apart.

Stephanie: Well, there has to be a better solution than asking one of them to leave the company. Eric, maybe we should think about having mediation. Some kind of counseling.

Eric: Absolutely not. This is a family problem. We're going to settle this within the family.

Stephanie: I'm not so sure that we are capable of working this out. And I do know one thing -- neither Ridge nor Thorne is prepared to be the one to leave.

Brooke: Well, you look as relaxed as the kids.

Ridge: They asleep?

Brooke: R.J. And Hope are. But the twins are still working on their summer project.

Ridge: Do you happen to know where Thomas is now?

Brooke: No. Why?

Ridge: I'm just a little concerned about him lately.

Brooke: Is that all you're worried about?

Ridge: Well, now that you mention it, I'm a bit concerned that you're so far away over there, when you should be here in my lap. Okay, okay. I feel bad for Thorne. But I think it's for the best. Really.

Brooke: You're talking like it's a foregone conclusion.

Ridge: Mother and Dad are not going to fire me. Dad knows that creative talent will make or break a fashion house. I just can't work in that atmosphere right now. That's all there is to it.

Brooke: Eric's not the only one involved in making that decision.

Ridge: Look, if mother keeps her business hat on, she'll realize there's only one choice to be made here.

Brooke: "If." And that's a big "if."

Ridge: What do you mean by that? You don't think they'll choose Thorne, do you?

Thorne: You know, I used to love puzzles.

Darla: Oh, yeah?

Thorne: Yeah. My dad got me one of the Eiffel Tower when I was about 7. You know, the kind with, like, 1,000 pieces? They couldn't believe how fast I could put it together. I almost finished it.

Darla: Almost?

Thorne: Yeah. Somebody wrecked it.

Darla: Guess that happens when you grow up in a big family, huh?

Thorne: Yeah, but this -- this had Ridge written all over it. He couldn't stand it when I got any attention. Even if it was a stupid puzzle. Weird how some memories just stick with you, huh?

Darla: You'll get your Eiffel tower, baby.

Thorne: Not with Ridge around, I won't.

Darla: Are you certain your parents know that?

Thorne: I've lived with his grandstanding my entire life. And mom and dad have got to know that I've waited way too long for my turn.

[ Knock on door ]

Sally: Listen, before you decide to give me the bum's rush and toss me out of here, which I richly deserve, I just want to say -- sorry. I'm terribly sorry, Thorne.

Amber: Here you go, Tommy. Home sweet home. What?

Thomas: Still waiting for that lesson.

Amber: Well, don't hold your breath.

Thomas: I'd rather be holding you.

Amber: No, seriously -- seriously, if your father finds us out here, he will school you and me. You need to get out of here pronto.

Thorne: A little late for that.

Sally: I know. I know. And believe me, I never would have borrowed those designs to enhance Spectra's Debutante line if I'd known it was going to turn out like this!

Thorne: What are you talking about?

Sally: Ridge. I'm talking about Ridge. He's furious. Somebody's head is going to have to roll. But it never occurred to me that he would send his own brother to the guillotine.

Darla: I told her that your parents are going to make a decision.

Thorne: And so you automatically assume it's going to be me who's getting the axe?

Sally: Yes. With my -- hell, but I mean, with my stupid blundering.

Thorne: Well, Sally, you can rest easy, okay? Because this is not about you or the Debutante line.

Sally: It's not?

Thorne: No, it's just been building for a long time. And I'm the one who told my parents they had to choose.

Sally: Do you think that was wise?

Thorne: Forrester was doing just fine when Ridge was gone.

Sally: But it goes a little deeper than just business with you, huh?

Thorne: Mother and Dad know what's at stake.

Darla: I'm sure they do, honey.

Thorne: There's only one way this can go.

Ridge: Come on, Logan. Mother and Dad are never going to cut me loose. That's an absurd idea.

Brooke: I'm not saying they would.

Ridge: Something's obviously bothering you about all this.

Brooke: It's your Mother.

Ridge: And what about her?

Brooke: She's upset with you because of me. Don't you think that would work in Thorne's favor?

Ridge: You are sounding more and more like you're sleep-deprived here.

Brooke: Oh, Ridge, think about it. Our marriage was a slap in the face to her. Aren't you concerned she just might want to slap back?

Ridge: No, Dad would never allow that.

[ Brooke sighs ]

Brooke: I just wish we could erase me from the equation somehow.

Ridge: Hey, I don't want to hear you talk like that. Without you, there is no me. And I'm as sure of that as i am that I'm going to be back in my old office by tomorrow. And that's that.

Darla: I know I'm probably the last person in the world that you want to see right now.

Eric: Darla, wait. Before you say anything, I want you to know that both Stephanie and I believe you, when you say you didn't mean to give Sally those designs.

Darla: Thank you. Thank you. But I am worried as to where this might lead. You must know how much this position means to Thorne at Forrester.

Eric: Both Thorne and Ridge have given a great deal of themselves to this company.

Darla: Yes, true. But I do think it's different for Thorne. For Ridge, it's -- it's just another accomplishment. But for Thorne, it's -- it's more like validation, you know?

Eric: Darla, the decision we make will not be a reflection of how much we love either son.

Darla: I understand that. I just don't think that Thorne does.

Stephanie: I know. This is so much more than just a job to him.

Darla: You have raised such an incredible son. And all he wants to do is prove his devotion to this family and to this company. Eric, I know you would be amazed at what he can accomplish, if you please just give him a chance.

Darla: I really need to get a smaller purse.

[ Knock at door ]

Brooke: Hi, Stephanie. May I come in?

Eric: Brooke -- hi.

Brooke: Hi. Good to see you.

Eric: Good to see you, too. How's R.J.?

Brooke: Great. Daddy's little boy.

Stephanie: And how are the rest of the children?

Brooke: Oh, they're fine. In fact, they were talking about you. We'd like it if you could visit.

Stephanie: Really? Isn't that interesting?

Brooke: Ridge told me what was happening, the decision that you had to make between him and Thorne.

Stephanie: It doesn't concern you.

Brooke: I hope not. I hope your feelings towards me won't influence you.

Stephanie: Oh, you think that your marriage to Ridge shouldn't factor into any of this?

Brooke: No.

Stephanie: Good. Then we're in complete agreement.

Brooke: Good.

Eric: You feel better?

Brooke: Oh, yes.

Stephanie: Well, that's what I'm here for. If you don't have anything else further to say --

Brooke: It's really kind of sad what's happening.

Eric: I think so, too.

Brooke: I mean, it's obvious they couldn't work together anymore. But you and Ridge are Forrester.

Stephanie: Are you assuming that this is a foregone conclusion, choosing Ridge?

Brooke: Unless you let your anger towards me cloud your judgment.

Eric: There's more to it than that, Brooke. Changes were made while Ridge was gone from Forrester.

Brooke: Thorne's promotion.

Eric: Yes. He earned that position.

Brooke: Yes, well, I'm sure he did, Eric. But there's a lot of people who could do that job and do it well. And you and I both know that there's no replacing Ridge.

Thomas: I know why you're in such a hurry for me to leave.

Amber: Yeah, because if your dad finds us here, he'll hunt me down and kill me.

Thomas: That's not it.

Amber: Oh, it's not?

Thomas: You're afraid you won't be able to control yourself any longer and jump my bones.

Amber: You know what it does to me when you talk to me like that?

Thomas: What?

Amber: It makes me realize that you are definitely Ridge Forrester's son.

Thomas: Dude, why do you have to keep mentioning my Dad?

Amber: Dude, because we are two steps away from your freakin' house. We should not be playing with fire like this.

Thomas: Yeah, I guess you're right.

Amber: Yeah, well, I usually am.

Thomas: Um -- thank you.

Amber: For what?

Thomas: For being so much fun and making me forget about everything.

Amber: You know, you really are sweet.

Thomas: And in your own argumentative way, so are you. I think you're really special.

Amber: Mm, we shouldn't be doing this.

Thomas: Give me one good reason.

Ridge: Thomas? Thomas?

Amber: There's your reason. Go, go, go, go, go.

Ridge: What the hell was that about?

Thomas: What was what about?

Ridge: Don't play games with me.

Thomas: I'm not.

Ridge: You're in some car, kissing a strange girl. I don't even know where you've been the last while.

Thomas: Oh, that.

Ridge: "Oh, that"? Yeah, "oh, that."

Thomas: Sorry.

Ridge: Who is she?

Thomas: Oh, just this girl.

Ridge: Does the girl have a name?

Thomas: Okay, some privacy would be nice. Please?

Ridge: Go up to your room.

Darla: Fancy meeting you here.

Brooke: Darla, you scared me.

Darla: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.

Brooke: So, what are you doing here?

Darla: I'm guessing the same thing you are.

Brooke: It's out of our hands now.

Darla: I warned you it might come to this.

Brooke: There's not much we could have done to prevent it.

Darla: I don't know about that.

Brooke: This rivalry's been brewing for years.

Darla: So what? You're just going to throw up your hands up?

Brooke: You expected more?

Darla: Brooke, you're the only one that Ridge listens to. I mean, really listens to.

Brooke: And I've been very supportive.

Darla: But have you told him what he needs to hear?

Brooke: Which is what, exactly?

Darla: You were married to Thorne once, right?

Brooke: So?

Darla: So, then you understand the scars that he is carrying around with him. It's killed him to play second fiddle to Ridge his entire life. Thorne needs this. Ridge doesn't.

Brooke: That's kinda presumptuous, don't you think?

Darla: I don't think so, no. You and Ridge could start another company again. He would that in a heartbeat, Brooke, if that's what you wanted.

Brooke: Well, that isn't what I want. I have a new baby, I have a new family --

Darla: Maybe you could convince him to take some time off.

Brooke: And walk away from the company that is his birthright?

Darla: Technically, he's not really a Forrester.

Brooke: All right, we're going to end this conversation right now.

Darla: Fine. May the best man win.

[ Thorne remembering ]

Eric: You're my

number one son.

[ Echoing ]

Thorne: It's coming to an end -- finally.

Eric: This is just the beginning, you know.

Stephanie: What?

Eric: Whatever we decide is gonna have an impact on everyone for a very long time. I just keep thinking back to the beginning -- you know, years ago. I used to work so hard, till the wee hours of the night, you know. And then I would come home 2:00, 3:00 to you -- to get a few hours sleep, but really I was coming home to hear you say to me once again how it was all worth it. How what we were building was for our children and for our children's children. These are supposed to be the years when we look back on all we've accomplished with a sense of pride, and I -- and now all I can do is look back and wonder where we went wrong. How the hell can they expect us to make -- to make a choice like this?

Stephanie: We have to choose one, or we risk losing both.

Eric: I thought when Ridge came back it was going to be the beginning of a whole new era.

Stephanie: Honey, Ridge is a very, very talented designer, but it takes more than just artistic talent to run a company.

Eric: Yeah. And when you look at Thorne, all the relationships that he's built, inside the company and outside the company, all the respect that he's gained for himself --

Stephanie: And his dedication.

Eric: Yeah. I'll never forget. When we made him president of the company, there were tears in his eyes.

Stephanie: You can't take that away.

Eric: There's only one choice we can make.
