Brooke: Fill that all the way to the top, honey. With the wet sand. Now we'll use that for the top.

Nick: Are you hungry? Not that song again!

Brooke: It's her favorite CD.

Nick: It's her only CD.

Brooke: I know. I tried to turn on the radio, and she wouldn't let me.

Nick: Well, at least she has good taste.

Brooke: Oh.

Nick: I think your Mom's a little jealous. She thought she was my favorite.

Brooke: Right.

[ Hope murmuring ]

Nick: Don't think you're fooling anybody with those shades, either. I know you're checking me out.

                        **************************************************************************************

Samantha: Here you go.

Caitlin: Thanks. I don't know why I'm like this. I'm usually never like this.

Samantha: It's okay. Are you sure you're not stressed? Juggling school and this job?

Caitlin: No. No, Samantha, I love it here. I just got all worked up. About my birthday and my Mom. Sometimes I just wish that there weren't any holidays, birthdays, Mother's day.

Samantha: It can be hard when you're missing somebody.

Caitlin: But, it's not just my Mom. It's my dad, too. He's just been so distant.

Samantha: He still doesn't know you're working here, does he? Hey. Look, it's okay.

Caitlin: No, it's not. I hate all these secrets.

Samantha: I'll tell you what -- why don't you get out of here. Go talk to your Dad. It'll make you feel better.

Caitlin: Thank you so much for everything. I really do need to go talk to my Dad.

[ Caitlin sighs ]

Samantha: He sounds like a terrific guy.

Caitlin: He is. And that's why I hate being so dishonest with him. Especially because he's always been so honest with me.

Samantha: Go on.

Caitlin: Thank you.

                        *************************************************************************************

Amber: I don't believe it. Caitlin has no idea that Samantha is her Mother?

Hector: And she's never going to.

Amber: You're not going to tell her?

Hector: No. And neither are you.

Amber: It's not my place. But, it's one hell of a secret.

Hector: I don't want to discuss this again.

Amber: You know, you can talk to me. You can trust me.

Hector: Well, I better. Because I've told you too much already.

Amber: I'm not the enemy, Hector. I just want to help.

Hector: Well, you can't.

Amber: Maybe I could talk to Samantha. I know --

Hector: I said no!

Amber: You know, I know she hurt you. But no matter how you feel about her, she's still gonna be Caitlin's Mother.

Hector: She was never a Mother to Caitlin.

Amber: You know, maybe if you give her a chance --

Hector: She doesn't deserve it.

Amber: And what about Caitlin? Doesn't she deserve to know where she came from? Look, Hector, I know you mean well. But I have to tell you, I think you're making a huge mistake here. You have a happy home, a happy family. You don't want to mess it up. You keep telling yourself -- you know, this secret -- it's not going to hurt anyone. But it's hurting you. Because you're deceiving someone that you love. And that secret -- it's just gonna keep eating away at you. Yeah, yeah. You can try to ignore it. But it's still going to be there. No matter how close you think are. You're never gonna be as close to her as if you just told her the truth.

Hector: Samantha didn't want her daughter. Don't you see? Her own Mother abandoned her the day she was born!

Amber: So Samantha abandoned her baby?

Hector: She didn't want anything to do with her.

Amber: And that's why you told Caitlin her Mother was dead.

Hector: Well, she may as well be. I don't even think Samantha ever held her.

Amber: She just -- she seems like such a nice person.

Hector: What about when we ran into her at Las Olas. Did she even ask about our daughter?

Amber: She said she wanted to talk.

Hector: All these years -- not one phone call. Or Christmas card or birthday present. We don't have a damn thing to talk about!

Amber: Maybe she wanted to explain.

Hector: I don't need an explanation. I know what happened! She got pregnant. Her parents moved her to New York. And I never heard from her again. You know, I begged her Mother to let me talk to her. And she refused to come to the phone. Does that sound like somebody who wants to talk?

Amber: So, how did you end up with Caitlin?

Hector: They gave her to me.

Amber: So you did see Samantha?

Hector: She sent her Mother and a lawyer. They had me sign a contract. They would give me my daughter as long as I promised never to contact Samantha or her family ever again. If I did, I'd lose custody.

Amber: That's horrible!

Hector: Well, they're horrible. And I can't believe that Sam could have gone along with a plan like that. But she did. And I don't want Caitlin connected to them.

Amber: I understand what you're trying to do. You're trying to protect Caitlin. But what if Samantha's changed? Hector, I know what it's like to be young and pregnant. You know, you're just so scared and confused. And you do all kinds of crazy things. Things that you end up regretting.

Hector: I hope she does. I hope she hates herself for what she did. But my daughter is not going to pay for her mistake. Caitlin has suffered enough! She's grown up without a Mother. Thinking that maybe her mom died because of her in childbirth.

Amber: But that's a lie.

Hector: Yeah, it is. And you may think that's cruel. But it's better than knowing your Mother doesn't want you.

                        ***********************************************************************************

Hector: Caty.

Caitlin: Hey, dad.

Hector: Hi.

Caitlin: Amber.

Amber: Hi, Caitlin.

Hector: A little late, aren't you, honey?

Caitlin: Yeah. I need to talk to you about that.

Amber: You know, um -- I should go.

Caitlin: I didn't mean to intrude.

Amber: I'm the one who's intruding. I'll get out of your hair. Go, go, go. Bye.

Hector: Is everything okay, honey?

Caitlin: Dad, there's something I need to talk to you about. I got another internship.

Hector: Not at Forrester?

Caitlin: No. A different fashion house. And I really want to tell you about it.

Caitlin: I know you don't want me working with the Forresters. But you said another design house would be okay.

Hector: And you just started today?

Caitlin: I've been afraid to tell you.

Hector: Why?

Caitlin: Because I didn't know how you'd react. You got so angry when you found out about my last internship.

Hector: Sweetheart, that's all behind us.

Caitlin: Is it? Because I still feel like, there's this distance. And I hate it. Something just feels off. With us. With me. Maybe it's this time of year. The closer it gets to my birthday -- I just don't want things to be weird with us.

Hector: Everything's fine, sweetie. It is, really. I mean, the problem that we had with the Forrester’s. That's taken care of. And this new job --

Caitlin: It's amazing.

Hector: Yeah? Are they treating you well?

Caitlin: Like family. Especially the woman who hired me. She's incredible. I mean, we really connect. I can talk to her about everything. And not just about work. About my life, stuff that's bothering me.

Hector: So you're feeling better?

Caitlin: Yeah. I'm just a little tired.

Hector: You want me to have a talk with your boss?

[ Caitlin sighs ]

Caitlin: No, no. It's not work. But you should come by the office. She really wants to meet you.

Jimmy: Hey, guys!

Hector: How was practice?

Jimmy: What's going on?

Hector: Your sister got a new job.

Caitlin: Ah, could you fill in Jimmy about it? I'm gonna go up to my room.

Hector: But you haven't eaten anything, honey.

Caitlin: I'm not hungry. See you later, Jimmy.

Hector: I'll check on you later.

                        **********************************************************************************

Stephanie: Oh, hi, Sam!

Samantha: Hi, Stephanie. Do you have a minute?

Stephanie: Sure. Come have some tea with me. How was work?

Samantha: It was good.

Stephanie: Good.

Samantha: I just heard the saddest story today. There's this new girl at work, an intern. And she's sweet. And she's smart and talented. Whenever I'm around her, I just can't help but think about my little girl. And wonder how she would have turned out -- what she would be like.

Stephanie: Well, you've been worrying on that for a long time, haven't you?

Samantha: Yeah. She told me that her Mother died in childbirth. And that her birthday makes her feel bad because it just reminds her family of their loss.

Stephanie: That's tough.

Samantha: It's even worse this year because it falls on mother's day. Strangely enough, it's the same day I lost my baby.

Stephanie: Yes, I know.

Samantha: I don't know, she told me, and we both started crying. And I just felt this great connection. And I know this sounds ridiculous. Just, when I hugged her I just felt -- like, this strange feeling. I felt like I just needed to comfort her.

Stephanie: Well, I don't think that's ridiculous. Why is she telling you all these personal things? I mean, I understand you're a very sympathetic person, and she'd want to talk to you. But -- you don't think she's trying to take advantage of you?

Samantha: Oh, no, no. It's nothing at all like that. She's a good kid.

Stephanie: But you're picking up on something. Look, I guess I'm just saying, keep your eyes open. Follow your instincts.

                        *****************************************************************************************

Sleep, my child and peace attend thee all through the night guardian angels

god will send thee all through the night soft the drowsy hours are creeping

hill and vale in slumber sleeping I my loving vigil keeping all through the night

[ Knocking on door ]

Hector: Caitlin? Honey, are you okay?

Caitlin: I'm fine.

Hector: "All through the night"? You haven't listened to that in years.

Caitlin: It was going through my head today.

Hector: Are you sure everything's okay?

Caitlin: I'm fine. I think I just need to lay down for a while.

Hector: I think that's a good idea. I love you, Ccaty.

Caitlin: I love you, too, Dad.

                        ***********************************************************************************

Brooke: So, you think I was checking you out, huh?

Nick: Well, we are engaged. You don't have to be shy about it.

Brooke: Hah! In your dreams!

Nick: If this was my dream, we'd be doin' a lot more than lookin'.

Brooke: All right, Hope, come here. I need to put some sunscreen on your shoulders.

[ Brooke sighs ]

Nick: Well, mom, you look like you could use some yourself. Or are you just blushing?

Brooke: You're the one who could use some yourself, buster.

Nick: No. Don't put that stuff on. I don't believe in it.

Brooke: Really?

Nick: Uh-uh.

Brooke: Oh.

Nick: What do you say? You want some on, or not?

Brooke: Well, I certainly wouldn't want you to do something you don't believe in.

Nick: Well, you already bought the stuff.

Brooke: Well, then go ahead -- put some on.

Nick: I don't put sunscreen on myself.

Brooke: Oh, don't be stubborn. I'm not going to play nurse when you're screaming between the sheets tonight.

Nick: Well, if I'm screaming between the sheets, I sure hope you're the nurse.

Brooke: Okay. There you go.

Nick: Thanks.

Brooke: You asked for it.

Brooke: It's been a long time since I felt --

Nick: Yeah, I know. Well, we are engaged.

Brooke: Yeah, and I'm happy about that. But I -- I still feel --

Nick: You wanna tell me how you feel about me, that's fine. But I am not interested in how you feel about anyone else.

                        *********************************************************************************

Jimmy: Dad, what's going on?

Hector: Oh, nothing. Your sister's just tired. That's all.

Jimmy: You look worried.

Hector: I'm just curious. She hasn't talked to you about anything, has she?

Jimmy: Like what?

Hector: Well, I don't know. Is there a problem at school? Somebody bothering her?

Jimmy: No. Why?

Hector: Because, she's listening to that old hymn again.

Jimmy: The guardian angel one?

Hector: Mm-hmm. That used to be the only thing that could get her back to sleep when she was a little girl.

Jimmy: She must be really stressed out. Her birthday is coming up. It's always been really hard on her.

Hector: You haven't heard her up at night? I mean, she has been sleeping, right?

Jimmy: Yeah, I think so. Oh, come on, Dad, I know what you're thinking -- and that hasn't happened in a really, really long time.

Caitlin: Mom? Mom!

Jimmy: Did you hear something?

Caitlin: Mom?

Hector: It's Caitlin. Stay here.

Caitlin: Mom?

Mom? Mom? Mom!

Hector: Caitlin? Caitlin, Caitlin -- wake up, honey.

Caitlin: Mom, where are you?

Hector: Shh. Caitlin, wake up. Wake up. Wake up. You're having a nightmare. You're having a nightmare.

Caitlin: Where is she?

Hector: Shh. Just a bad dream. Just a bad dream.

Caitlin: Where is she, dad? Where's mom? Where is she? Dad, where's mom? Where's mom? Where is she? Where's mom? Where is she? Where's mom?
