Eric: You're trying to shut me up, aren't you?

Stephanie: Yes. Thank you for loving me, even though you were disappointed in me.

Eric: I was, and I still am. You're not off the hook, what you did to Brooke.

Stephanie: I did what I thought was best for her.

Eric: You forced her into accepting Nick's proposal.

Stephanie: No. She made her own decision.

Eric: After months and months of relentless manipulation, yes.

Stephanie: Did we not agree to disagree, and are we not supposed to be here for Thorne?

Eric: Yes. Yes, we are. And we're not going to make the same mistakes with Thorne that we made with Ridge. Thorne's an adult. He doesn't need to be coddled by his parents. When I think of all the mistakes we made forcing decisions on our children --

Stephanie: He wants you to make this decision.

Eric: And he wants me to be objective about it.

Stephanie: No, Eric. He needs to know that you love him. He wants you to make him president of Forrester creations.

Darla: Here you go, babe. Okay.

Thorne: You know what? Maybe we should wait in the lobby.

Darla: Why? In a few minutes, this is gonna be your office anyway -- Mr. President.

Thorne: Because I don't want to jinx it.

Darla: Oh, like you could. Come on.

Thorne: You know, they don't have to say yes.

Darla: Sweetie, I know how hard this must be for you. You know, you're not just asking your parents for a promotion. You're asking them to acknowledge your place in this family.

Thorne: But can you really ask someone for that?

Darla: Honey, you had to. Your whole life, Ridge has always been the star, you know, and you've been the hard-working, honest, dependable brother -- which is something that I love about you, so very much. You don't have to be the center of attention. You're good at what you do and you know who you are, and that's what makes you so special. Your parents are gonna see that, too -- once you get out of that shadow which is Ridge Forrester. But I think in order to do that, you know, you're gonna have to stand up, make some noise.

[ Phone beeps ]

Thorne: Yes, Megan? They are. Okay. We'll be right there.

[ Thorne sighs ] Okay, mom and dad are ready to see me.

Caitlin: Oh. Oh, no.

Samantha: Oh, good. You found my samples. Did you call the distributor? Caitlin? Caitlin, what's wrong?

Caitlin: It's my birthday. It's coming up.

Samantha: Oh, when?

Caitlin: Week after next.

Samantha: Well, you don't look very excited. What's wrong?

Caitlin: This year, it's on mother's day.

Hector: Amber. What are you doing here?

Amber: I want to help you, hector.

Hector: I don't understand.

Amber: Neither did I. But now, it all makes perfect sense. The way you reacted to Samantha at the restaurant, the reason why you don't want Caitlin working at Forrester Creations -- you have to tell her. It's time to tell your daughter the truth.

Eric: Hey.

Stephanie: Hello, sweetheart. Hi, Darla.

Darla: Hi, Stephanie.

Eric: Thorne called us, told us the good news. Congratulations.

Darla: Yes, thank you.

[ Laughter ]

Stephanie: Ooh! You'll have to let us give you an engagement party.

Darla: Well, thank you. Thank you very much. Maybe we'll have a little more to celebrate after this meeting is over.

Eric: Well, let's get started.

Stephanie: Thank you.

[ Eric clears his throat ]

Eric: Thorne, the last time we met, you asked me to consider making you president of Forrester Creations. I'm sure you were hoping for a more immediate response. But I'm sure you'll understand that this is a very complicated business decision. There are many, many factors to consider, not the least of which is the position you hold now.

Thorne: Well, you can find someone to replace me.

Eric: No, Thorne. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do that. Look, the success of any business is its foundation. This business is about relationships, Thorne. And no one's done a better job at establishing those relationships than you have.

Thorne: Wait a minute -- what are you saying? You can't promote me because I'm too good at the job I already have?

Stephanie: We want you to know how valuable you are.

Eric: Thorne, your contributions to this company have been invaluable. We want you to know that you're very, very appreciated here.

Thorne: But you want me to stay where I am. Is that it? Dad, are you turning me down?

Amber: Caitlin deserves to know the truth about her mother.

Hector: What do you mean, "the truth"?

Amber: I was here, Hector.

Hector: When?

Amber: The other day. I stopped by to drop something off, and you were with a woman. I didn't want to interrupt.

Hector: So you just hung around?

Amber: You know, I know this must be difficult for you, keeping this a secret.

Hector: What secret?

Amber: That woman you were talking to is Samantha Kelly's mother.

Hector: You know Priscilla Kelly?

Amber: She's a friend of the Forresters. She's also Caitlin's grandmother.

Hector: You're mistaken.

Amber: I'm not.

Hector: You were eavesdropping on a private conversation.

Amber: I was worried about you, Hector!

Hector: That doesn't give you the right to break into my house.

Amber: Oh! Jimmy let me in on his way out!

Hector: I want you to leave.

Amber: I'm not going to tell anybody.

Hector: There is nothing to tell. Do you hear me? You don't have any idea what you're talking about.

Samantha: You're sad because your birthday's on mother's day?

Caitlin: As if it wasn't depressing enough.

Samantha: Your birthday is depressing?

Caitlin: It's my mother. She's gone, and she has been for a long time. My birthday just kind of brings it up.

Samantha: She left you?

Caitlin: She died.

Samantha: I'm sorry. I -- I didn't know.

Caitlin: It's not something that my family talks about. I know I shouldn't feel guilty, but sometimes I do.

Samantha: Well, I don't see why your mother's death should make you feel guilty?

Caitlin: She died giving birth to me. So every year, my family's reminded that I'm here and she's not.

[ Samantha sighs ]

Samantha: I know something about that. It's called "survivor's guilt." I lost someone once very close to me, and I felt the same way. But you have to remember, Caitlin, that it's not your fault.

Caitlin: That's what my dad says. But I can tell it's hard on him. I'll be opening my presents, and I'll catch him looking at me. He tries to hide it. He doesn't want to hurt me. But I can tell that he's thinking about what happened that day, too.

Thorne: If you're going to turn me down, just say it if you don't want me to be president.

Eric: I didn't say that.

Thorne: But that's what you're going to do, aren't you?

Eric: Is that what you expect me to do?

Thorne: I expect you to give me an answer, not a pat on the head or some belated compliments of what a good job I've done.

Eric: You think you've been taken for granted?

Thorne: That surprises you? I've played second fiddle my whole life. Ridge isn't here now, and I've got a lot more to offer this company than just my team spirit.

Stephanie: Sweetheart, I know that your job has not been as glamorous as your brother's, but believe me, you've been equally as important.

Eric: This isn't about your brother. This is a business decision.

Thorne: Yeah, I know that.

Eric: Then you understand why I can't let my personal feelings dictate my choice.

Thorne: I don't want this job because I'm your son. I want this job because I know that I can do it!

Eric: You believe that?

Darla: Mr. Forrester, he wouldn't be here if he didn't believe it. It took a lot of courage for Thorne to come to you with this.

Eric: Darla, it'll take a lot more than that to do this job. Do you think he's up to the challenge?

Darla: Sir, he wants to marry me. I believe he's up for anything.

Stephanie: I think you've been a wonderful influence on him, Darla.

Darla: Thank you very much, Stephanie.

Eric: If you influenced Thorne to ask for this job, you've been an influence on this company, too.

Darla: Well, of course, it was all Thorne's idea. But I do support him 110%.

Eric: He would need a lot more than that, I can tell you.

Thorne: You've made your decision.

Eric: Yes, I have.

[ Thorne sighs ]

Thorne: What's that?

Eric: The future of Forrester creations. Congratulations, Mr. President.

[ Darla laughs ]

Amber: You know, I know Samantha broke your heart, but you didn't tell me she got pregnant.

Hector: I put Samantha Kelly behind me a long time ago.

Amber: You want to make sure she stays out of your life.

Hector: And so does Priscilla. That's what we were fighting about. I already told you the woman hates my guts. She always has.

Amber: That's why she didn't want Samantha to raise your baby.

Hector: We're talking about my baby. It was her baby, okay? Samantha. She heard that we ran into each other.

Amber: That's not what I heard.

Hector: Well, you heard wrong.

Amber: I heard you, Hector! Okay, I was right outside your window! Now, you can deny it, you can tell me you think I'm crazy, but I know what's going on, and I think it's time Caitlin did, too.

Hector: You stay away from my daughter! Do you hear me? I tried to help you, and this is how you repay me, by threatening my family?

Amber: I'm not threatening --

Hector: Yes, you are! What you're saying could destroy everything I care about. I will not let that happen, Amber. I won't let you do it.

Amber: I only came here to try and talk to you.

Hector: You ambush me in my home, accuse me of lying to my daughter?!

Amber: No, I was concerned, okay?! I was worried about you, what you must be going through! I -- I couldn't get it out of my head, you know, what I had heard. So I -- I'm sorry. I should go.

Hector: You wait!

Amber: Hector, let me go!

Hector: We're not finished!

Amber: You're scaring me! I'm sorry, okay? I -- I shouldn't have said anything. Not -- not to you. And I'm not going to. I'm not going to say anything to Caitlin or anybody, okay? I just wanted to help you, you know? I mean, you've been so kind to me, and I knew what you were going through, and I thought --

Hector: My god. What am I doing?

Amber: It's true, isn't it? Samantha is Caitlin's mother.

Hector: I've guarded this secret my whole life. There are only three people in the world who know the truth -- Samantha, Priscilla and me.

Amber: Well, I guess now there's one more.

Caitlin: I can't believe I'm telling you all this.

Samantha: You need to talk. I understand.

Caitlin: You said that you lost someone, too.

Samantha: I wish I could tell you that as you get older, it gets easier.

Caitlin: Dad's proof it doesn't.

Samantha: Your mother must've been a very special person.

Caitlin: I don't know that much about her. It's too hard for him to talk about. So I made up my own stories.

Caitlin: Do you think that's weird?

Samantha: Not at all.

Caitlin: I used to write about her in my diary. My mother is beautiful. My mother is smart.

Samantha: What else?

Caitlin: She's creative, like me. She adores my father. And she's the only one in the world that laughs at his jokes. She loves animals and babies. She braids my hair. My dad's terrible at braiding. She's always there, when I get home from school, when I go to sleep at night, whenever I need her.

[ Caitlin sobs ]

Samantha: Hey, shh-shh, no. Don't cry. No. Your mother is still with you, and she loves you very much. That's okay. That's okay.

Thorne: President. You're giving me the job.

Eric: You earned it.

Darla: I told you.

Thorne: Thank you.

Eric: You might not be so grateful when you see the list of responsibilities.

Thorne: Yeah? Well, you bring it on.

[ Eric laughs ]

Stephanie: Darla said you were ready for anything, and I think she was right.

Thorne: Well, I was definitely ready for this.

Stephanie: It's been a long time coming, sweetheart.

Thorne: Listen mom, about what I said earlier about ridge --

Eric: It's all right. We understand.

Thorne: No, dad, I don't think you do. You see, for you this was -- this was a business decision. But for me, it -- God, what a relief.

[ Thorne sighs ] I feel so much lighter. You know, people talk about ignoring the elephant in the room. Guess if I'd never brought it up, I could pretend it wasn't there. I could pretend that Ridge and I were equals and that he really wasn't your favorite. But now, I know that you respect and admire me, too, and for the first time in my life, I don't feel like the other son. You have no idea what this means to me. You haven't just given me a promotion today or the office across the hall. You've put your faith in me. And by God, you're not going to regret it.

Stephanie: Oh, I love you, sweet boy.

Thorne: I know, mother. And I love you, too.
