Ridge: Go ahead, take it. I don't want you or your damn ring.

Massimo: You're not walking out of here. Do you hear me? You are not going anywhere.

Ridge: Massimo, I'm already gone! You made damn sure of that a long time ago.

Massimo: Ridge, wait!

Ridge: For what? So you can tell me again how much you love me, how you've done all this for my own good? Was it good to break my heart, Massimo? Was it good to leave my kids without a mother? All your talk about your grandchild and insuring his future -- what about Thomas? What about Steffi and Phoebe? They're your grandchildren, too.

Massimo: Don't you think I agonize about them every day, what they're going through?

Jackie: It's true, Ridge. He talks about how much he loves them and wants to protect them all the time.

Ridge: Oh, wants to protect them? Please!

Massimo: From their father and his brother fighting the rest of their lives!

Ridge: Oh, like everything's just going to be miraculously healed if I step aside and let Nick marry Brooke, huh? Like I'm not going to go on resenting him every minute of every day from now on?

Massimo: That will pass.

Ridge: No, Massimo, it won't pass!

Stephanie: Yes it will. You'll get over this, and you'll go on to find --

Ridge: Oh, stop it, all of you! Just stop it! I'm sick of this garbage from all of you! You and your precious Marone family and this fake, phony concern you have for me and Brooke! All of you just go to hell. Go to hell!

Massimo: Ridge? Ridge? Ridge?

Nick: I feel like a fool.

Brooke: Well, you shouldn't.

Nick: But I do.

Brooke: But you're not a fool.

Nick: Answer me one thing, will you?

Brooke: All right.

Nick: Do you want to be here?

Brooke: I made this decision, no one else. And I'm sticking to it.

Ridge: Massimo Marone V. What a joke. You -- you and your whole damned legacy.

Ridge: You're wasting your time following me here.

Massimo: I don't want to argue with you, Ridge. No matter what you think, this is not about my choosing Dominick over you.

Ridge: But why wouldn't you? He's a sailor by profession. I'm not. Your wife is his mother. That's two strikes against me. He'll carry on your family name. We both know where I stand on that one, don't we?

Massimo: You are still my flesh and blood?

Ridge: I'm a DNA match, Massimo. That's it.

Massimo: What are you saying? Are you telling me that you did not feel the connection with Thomas when he was born into this world, hmm? That you would not be willing to risk everything that you had, huh? That you would not put your life on the line for him? That you would not get on your knees and beg, if that's what it took, huh, to keep him in your life? Ridge, I need you.

Ridge: And I need Brooke!

[ Massimo sighs ]

Massimo: But you can't have her.

Ridge: Why, because you say so?!

Massimo: No, no, no, no. Because she says so. She would be here with you if she wanted to be, wouldn't she? But she made her choice, and she chose to be with the father of her baby.

Stephanie: You know, I've had nothing but trouble in my life since Mass came back into it.

Jackie: I think your troubles started long before that.

Stephanie: With Brooke and her mother. Yes, I suppose you're right. Brooke laid eyes on my son, and she's been at him ever since.

Jackie: Well, all of that's about to change, isn't it?

Stephanie: Yes, I suppose it is.

Jackie: What are you saying, that you don't think that Brooke is serious about her commitment to Nicky?

Stephanie: No. No, I -- I think she'll try and make it work.

Jackie: You know, you seem almost sorry about that.

Stephanie: Well, it's a sad situation. Ridge and Brooke finally have to walk away from one another. What?

Jackie: Nothing.

Stephanie: You don't think it's a sad situation?

Jackie: I do. I think it's a tragedy, for Ridge. But for you -- well, you're getting what you always wanted, aren't you?

Nick: Is that good? That looks so good. Can I have some? I didn't think so. How 'bout some whipped cream? That's what she needs is whipped cream. You gotta have whipped cream with a nice little sundae like that. Here, sit here. Let me get it. Don't eat it all.

Brooke: What's that?

Nick: What?

Brooke: You dropped something.

Nick: Oh, that's sneaky. She must have put this in my jacket pocket tonight.

Brooke: Who?

Nick: My mother. This is a CD that I burned off of -- "Bring it on," that song. She put this in my pocket I bet so --

Brooke: To heat things up between us?

Nick: I don't know.

Hope: Play.

Brooke: Maybe tomorrow, sweetheart.

Hope: All right.

Brooke: All right. But after this, you go straight to bed. Do you hear me?

I had a dream you were there for the taking

Brooke: I think you have a new fan.

[ Nick laughs ]

What a dream it was love we were making m

Nick: You like that song? You wanna dance together? Come on.

I was lying on the boat again
like a ship that's lost in the ocean
we've been lost in our own emotion
gotta find a place we can call home again
too many nights alone
too many days gone by
too many tears we cried
we've got to right the wrong
time to bring it on la di da di da
bring it on la di da di da
remember all the feelings that we felt along the way
there's a new beginning and it's starting here today
now bring it on la di da di da bring it on la di da di da
bring it on la di da di da

Ridge: You're wrong, Massimo. Brooke was coerced into choosing Nick by all of you!

Massimo: Brooke could have gotten up and left at any time that she wanted, okay --

Ridge: But she --

Massimo: But she listened.

Ridge: She's confused. She's vulnerable.

Massimo: No, no, no, no. It was because we made sense, okay? And she understood that. It supported what she's been thinking all along, that she should be with --

Ridge: Daddy, I don't want to hear that anymore!

Massimo: Well, you've got to hear it! And you've got to face up to it once and for all, Ridge! You owe it to Brooke, and to your children, and to you!

Ridge: To my children?! What -- what are you talking about?

Massimo: Yes, yes, yes, yes! You keep telling me what I should be doing, huh? Or what I'm not doing. What about you, hmm?! Going off with your mind somewhere else every day? Those poor children, they don't know what to do. They have to make decisions on their own, they have to parent themselves because their father is so wrapped up in his own loss! Well, you owe it to them to move on. They need you to move on with your life, Ridge! And you owe them that much responsibility! Listen. Brooke understands that now, okay? She has learned that her children have to be her first priority in life. This is something that you have got to learn now! You have got to grow up!

Ridge: Wait a minute. Is that -- is that how you think of me, just some spoiled kid here?

Massimo: I think of you as a man who's gotten a raw deal. A man who's had the courage to open himself to love more than once, only to have it stolen from him. And now you're fighting with everything that you have so that it won't happen again. But Ridge, it is happening. Brooke has moved on. You have got to do that, too.

Stephanie: How could you even suggest that?

Jackie: That you wanted to keep Brooke as far away from Ridge and your family as possible?

Stephanie: What I wanted was my son's happiness. If it had been with Brooke, I would have welcomed her with open arms.

Jackie: Oh, come on, Stephanie, that's not true.

Stephanie: Why do you question my intent?

Jackie: I question it, because I am going to be Brooke's future mother-in-law, and I'm very protective of my family.

Stephanie: So am I.

Jackie: A little overprotective, if you ask me.

Stephanie: Well, I certainly make no apologies, and I would be willing to bet that you would do anything -- anything for Nick. Look, you got lucky this time -- the both of you. The baby is his. So you might as well just sit back and enjoy the ride. As for me, I have to watch Ridge's world fall apart. All I can do is try and help him pick up the pieces. So no, Jacqueline, I did not get what I wanted. I didn't get it at all.

[ Horns honking ]

[ Ridge remembering ]

Ridge: A necklace?

Brooke: You like it?

Ridge: Yeah, it's beautiful. It kinda reminds me of the ones I always liked to wear.

Brooke: If I remember correctly, I got those for you, too.

[ Brooke gasping ]

Nick: She's out like a light. Are you all right? What's the matter? What is it?

Brooke: I don't know. It's a strange feeling.

Nick: Like a panic attack kind of thing, anxiety? What is it?

Brooke: No. No, more like tightness. But then --

Nick: What?

Brooke: I don't know. I don't know. It's strange. It's just -- it's as if I was -- you know, when you hold your breath and you're under the water for a long time, and then all of a sudden, you just come to the surface and -- ?

[ Brooke breathing heavy ]

Nick: Now, take it in. That's it. Feel that? Breathe, one more. Good. Sit back a little bit. Come on, sit back here.

Nick: Maybe you're starting to relax. You ever look at it that way, hmm?

Brooke: Yeah, maybe. Maybe that's it.

Nick: It's been a while. You probably wouldn't even recognize it if it hit you in the face. Going on fast forward for a bit, wouldn't you say?

Brooke: Yeah, that's -- that's what it is. Chasing something, always happiness, I guess.

Nick: The elusive happiness.

Brooke: Yeah, but why does it have to be that? I mean, elusive. When it's right there, staring you in the face. I look at those pictures of Rick and Bridget, you know, when they were little, and I know I was there when they were taken, but I just -- I don't remember. And then Rick's first toy that he played with and Bridget's first Halloween costume --

[ Brooke sighs ] All those cute things they used to say. I promised myself I'd write them down, and I just never did. I guess I was too focused on things that I didn't have to really appreciate the things that I did.

Nick: You're gonna be okay.

Brooke: I am?

Nick: I think so. I think that the peace and that happiness that you're looking for is -- it's all right there. It's -- it's right in here. And it's definitely down here. You know, it's a gift learning to want what you have. Not that I'm an expert, because I'm just figuring it out myself. Maybe we can learn together.

Brooke: I want to try.

Nick: Then that's what we'll do. That's what we'll do.
