Brooke: Am I going to marry Nick? Well, that's the big question, isn't it?

Ridge: Do you still have his ring?

Brooke: It's in my purse.

Ridge: You haven't put it on. What's stopping you, Brooke?

Eric: You want to be president of Forrester Creations?

Thorne: Yes. And I want to move up here. To the office across the hall.

Eric: Ridge's old office.

Thorne: It's empty now. Look, I know you probably weren't expecting this.

Eric: I thought you were happy in receiving.

Thorne: I can do more, dad. So can you. With me as president, it will allow you to focus more on your designs. Now, I can handle the day-to-day executive decisions. Coordinating the fashion shows, marketing, and distribution. You would still have the final say. You're the CEO. But I'm your son. You've worked with Ridge. With Brooke.

Eric: But I wasn't in control of the company then. I am now. And I think things are running smoothly.

Thorne: They are, dad. But you don't have to do it all by yourself. When you -- when you regained control of this company, you said Forrester was going back to its roots. You said that you wanted this business to reflect our family's values. I want to be a part of that.

Eric: You are.

Thorne: I have the experience. I have the background. But I want to contribute more. I want to help you take Forrester Creations into the new era. You. You and me together, dad. We can take this company and we can make it the company you always dreamed it could be. I don't expect you to make a decision right now. I'll give you some time to think about it.

Eric: I will.

Jackie: Oh, hello, darling.

Nick: What are you doing here?

Jackie: Giving your father a hand.

Nick: Oh. You need a hand, giving him a hand?

Jackie: Nope -- no, I'm just doing these invitations. Your father and I, we are throwing a party.

Nick: Oh, it sounds like fun. "Request your presence at the gala event for Dominick Payne and Brooke Logan. To celebrate the impending birth of their first child."

Jackie: Massimo is so excited. He wants to share the good news.

Nick: Well, have him go down to the docks and give out cigars then.

Jackie: I think you could be -- just a little more appreciative, you know. I mean, he is doing this for you --

Nick: Cancel it.

Jackie: What?

Nick: You heard what I said. Cancel this thing. It's the last thing Brooke needs right now.

Ridge: What are you waiting for, Logan?

Brooke: You know this has been difficult for me.

Ridge: It's a simple question. Why haven't you accepted Nick's proposal? A couple of months ago, you had my ring on your finger.

Brooke: I gave it back to you, Ridge.

Ridge: Now you're carrying Nick's ring around in your purse.

[ Brooke sighs ]

Brooke: Oh, God. I don't think we should be talking about this.

Ridge: Why not?

Brooke: I don't know what you want me to say!

Ridge: I'd just like the simple truth, that's all. You didn't have to take it, but you did. Why would you do that, unless you intended to marry him? I need to know. Just tell me.

Eric: That was unexpected.

Stephanie: Was it?

Eric: Yes. I didn't know he was thinking about that. Did you?

Stephanie: It was just a matter of time.

Eric: President of Forrester Creations?

Stephanie: It never crossed your mind?

Eric: Honestly? No. Brooke only made me president to pacify our customers. It's only a title.

Stephanie: He wants more than a title, Eric. He wants to help you.

Eric: This isn't about his shortcomings or about anything wrong with his abilities. He does a great job down in receiving. But president?

Stephanie: Eric.

Eric: Ridge might still come back.

Stephanie: You asked him and he said no. Thorne is your son.

Eric: Yes. And I'm proud of him for wanting to step up.

Stephanie: He's coming into his own. He has his own family now. He has a beautiful little girl.

Eric: Look, Stephanie, if he wants a raise, of course.

Stephanie: He needs you to believe in him, Eric, the way Darla does.

Eric: What does Darla have to do with this?

Stephanie: A lot. You haven't noticed the change in him.

Eric: He seems happy.

Stephanie: Confident. He's ready, Eric. He wants to be as important to this whole family as he is to his own.

Darla: Oh, so this is it, huh? Your new office.

Thorne: I wouldn't pick out paint chips just yet.

Darla: Oh, come on, none of that. You did great.

Thorne: Dad didn't seem too impressed.

Darla: Well, he said that he'd think about it. Huh? Baby, you're gonna get this job. Your presentation was amazing. It was very -- presidential.

Thorne: I'm just glad you were there with me.

Darla: Oh, I didn't do anything. I just stood there.

Thorne: Yes, you did, right beside me, which is where I need you.

Darla: I'm not going anywhere.

Thorne: I'm glad to hear you say that.

Darla: Yeah?

Thorne: 'Cause I was thinking of putting your desk right there.

Darla: My desk?

Thorne: Yes. You're just as experienced in this business as I am.

Darla: Honey, I've got my hands full with Alexandria.

Thorne: Forrester has a great day care.

Darla: Okay. Well, maybe in the future. You know, she gets a little older, I could work part-time or something.

Thorne: If you're not interested, let me call Sally --

Darla: No, no, no, no, no, no -- I'm interested. I'm interested.

Thorne: Yeah?

Darla: Yeah.

Thorne: Were a good team.

Darla: You think?

Thorne: Yes. Yes, I've actually been thinking about it a lot, lately. You know, this is a -- this is a big step for me. Finally taking my place in the business, my family. It just feels like things are coming together with work and the baby. With us. But there's something still missing.

[ Thorne sighs ]

Darla: What's that?

Thorne: Oh, I don't know. Maybe something like this?

Jackie: I don't understand. What is the problem?

Nick: I'm trying to save Brooke from the ultimate ambush.

Jackie: Ambush? It's just a party.

Nick: Well, she's not in the mood, believe me.

Jackie: Well, she should be.

Nick: This won't cheer her up, mother.

[ Jackie sighs ]

Jackie: We have to do something, Nicky. Massimo's right, Brooke is right in the middle of this dilemma. She just needs help to make her see --

Nick: She doesn't need any help seeing anything.

Jackie: She needs to know how much we care for her. And how much we care and are excited for this baby.

Nick: I'm proposing to her! This isn't a group project.

Jackie: I know you're frustrated, darling. You want it to be about you and Brooke and the baby.

Nick: This is not about what I want, mother.

Jackie: Ridge. Brooke is still struggling with her feelings for Ridge.

Nick: And I don't want you to put any more pressure on her.

Jackie: It's not pressure, it's just a gentle nudge in the right direction.

Nick: No!

Jackie: She needs guidance, Nicky, she needs you to set a course for her. Because without it, she's just going to keep going and going in circles.

Nick: I won't push her.

Jackie: Oh, but, Nicky, she's almost there. She's left Ridge. She's annulled their marriage. She is committed to you and your child.

Nick: She hasn't accepted the ring yet, mother.

Jackie: Darling, she will once she realizes how happy she could be, surrounded by people who respect her and support her. Nicky, we're not ashamed of this child or your relationship. In fact, we want to celebrate it.

[ Nick laughs ]

Nick: So it all comes right back to the party, doesn't it?

Jackie: It's a good idea, Nicky. Brooke is ready to accept your proposal. All she needs is a little encouragement. You'll see.

Ridge: If you're going to marry him, just say it. Please.

Brooke: I can't. I can't say it to you. I can't say it to nick. I can't say it to myself.

Ridge: Because it's not what you want, Brooke.

Brooke: What I wanted, Ridge, was a life with you. Our child. Our family. And when the paternity test results were read and all of our dreams -- well, that's just what they were.

Ridge: No.

Brooke: I don't want to believe it either, but until I face it, we're just going to be stuck in limbo.

Ridge: This is not the only solution, Brooke.

Brooke: Well, it's the right one.

Ridge: No, you say that, but I don't think you mean it.

Brooke: It's not just me, Ridge. When I spoke with your mother today --

ridge: Oh, don't let her get to you. Please don't let her get to you.

Brooke: Well, she did. I've worked so hard all my life to try to gain her respect. And today, she finally told me that she was proud of me.

Ridge: She's said that before.

Brooke: Ridge, this time she meant it. She said that she respected the fact that I was going to put my child's needs before my own.

Ridge: And make yourself miserable, right?

Brooke: She also told me that she loved me. Do you have any idea what that meant to me? But it wasn't unconditional, because she wants me to marry Nick. They all do.

Ridge: That doesn't make it right.

Brooke: What about the dream that I had? When Taylor told me I was gonna find happiness in an unexpected place.

Ridge: Brooke, not with Nick.

Brooke: Ridge, what else could it mean?

Ridge: It could mean anything, Brooke, anything at all. It was a dream. It was just a dream.

Brooke: This isn't about us anymore. This decision is going to affect so many people.

Ridge: Forget about them, Brooke.

Brooke: I can't!

Ridge: All those people out there -- all those people, they're just confusing you.

Brooke: Yes. Yes, they are. And so are you.

Darla: This is for me?

Thorne: Yes. I want you to know how much you mean to me.

Darla: Honey, I don't know what to say.

Thorne: Open it.

Darla: Things like this just don't happen for me.

Thorne: Yeah, well -- they do now.

Darla: Oh, Thorne. They're earrings. Wow. Honey, they're beautiful.

Thorne: You like 'em?

Darla: Oh, yeah. Yeah.

Thorne: Good. I'm glad. Because they -- they go perfectly with this. If I'm going to be president, I'm going to need a first lady.

Darla: Oh -- oh, my God. No, no.

Thorne: You look surprised?

Darla: Yeah.

Thorne: Yeah. Well, so am I. You know, Darla, you've been the biggest surprise of my life. Your faith in me. Your patience and your generosity -- it astounds me every day. You're a remarkable mother. And a wonderful, wonderful person. I know we didn't take the most romantic road to get to this place. And I know that you -- I know you felt alone sometimes. But you never gave up. You stayed positive and you stayed hopeful. And that's why people love you. That's why I love you. You inspire me. Your beauty, your intelligence. It takes a courageous and savvy woman to overcome the challenges you've faced. Now, I'm going to offer you another one. If you take this ring, you will be facing the biggest challenge of your life. Spending the rest of it with me. Now, I can't always promise it's gonna be easy, okay? And there's going to be other challenges. But I know one thing -- I don't want to face them without you.

Darla: Oh, my God.

Thorne: Darla, will you be my wife?

Ridge: I'm not trying to pressure you, Brooke.

Brooke: No, I know. I know you're not trying to pressure me. You're trying to help me. Everybody's just trying to help. But you can't. And you're not.

Ridge: What do you want me to do?

Brooke: I don't know. I don't even know what I want.

Ridge: All right, then let's just figure it out together then.

Brooke: Ridge, you're not listening. I just told you --

Ridge: So, my mother's proud of you and she wants you to marry Nick.

Brooke: And so does Jackie and Massimo and Rick.

Ridge: Well, so what? When have you ever, ever done something just to pacify everybody else?

Brooke: Never.

Ridge: Right.

Brooke: Right. No, no, it's not right! It's selfish and destructive. And everything I've done has always just been about me. I try to make myself happy. Try to please myself. Never a thought for anybody else.

Ridge: Brooke, that's not true.

Brooke: Yes, it is true, Ridge. Believe me, I would be with you if I could, but I'm trying not to be that selfish person.

Ridge: No, you're just trying to justify this decision. You really don't want to marry nick.

Brooke: Now don't -- don't put words in my mouth.

Ridge: I don't have to, Brooke. I can see it in your eyes. You're overwhelmed here. You're totally overwhelmed. You've got all these nagging voices in your head telling you what's right and what's not.

Brooke: No, I have all these people that depend on me, and I'm not gonna just let them down.

Ridge: Brooke, this is your life. Your life. And whatever decision you make, everybody's gotta live with it. Even me.

Brooke: Even my baby. All these voices are going off in my head. And there's really only one I should be listening to.

Ridge: And what is he saying?

Brooke: He's saying, "he belongs with his father."

[ Brooke gasps ] oh --

Ridge: Brooke? What's going on?

Brooke: I don't know -- I can't really breathe. I feel like my heart is jumping out of my chest!

Ridge: Is it the baby? Brooke, come on. Just calm down. Calm down. Take a breath. Take a breath.

Brooke I don't know what's happening to me.

Ridge: Just take a breath. Relax. Sweetheart, breathe, breathe, breathe. Breathe. Try to catch your breath. Calm down. Calm down.
