Nick: Have you reached the Malacca straits yet? Well, that's why you can't get through! You have a deep-draught-vessel. You need to give them eight days notice. All right. You need to get on course right there. I'm going to call some friends over at the maritime organization and try to pull some strings. Just make sure this doesn't happen again. Are we clear on that? Admiral, how are you?

Admiral: Did I come at a bad time?

Nick: No, no, no. Please -- please, come in.

Admiral: The Far East fleet. I'm afraid it's come across a bit of a speed bump.

Nick: Yeah. The Malacca straits. I was just on with our people from Singapore. I'm on top of it.

Admiral: You certainly help Massimo run a tight ship. He must be very proud.

Nick: That's very nice of you to say. We do have our ups and downs here like anyone else.

Admiral: I heard what happened in the boardroom the other day.

Nick: Just a little misunderstanding. Don't you jump ship on me, Admiral. We'll get things ironed out.

Admiral: How can you be so sure?

Nick: Because I won't let my personal life affect things here at Marone. You have my word.

Admiral: Well, I'll be in touch once the fleet enters the channel.

Nick: Very good. You better be careful, Forrester. That look might just freeze on your face.

Ridge: I'm not really in the mood for your so-called "charm," Nick.

Nick: Well, what do you want?

Ridge: The truth.

Nick: About what?

Ridge: What kind of man you really are.

Brooke: Knock knock.

Stephanie: Brooke.

Brooke: Megan told me you'd be in here. I'm sure I'm the last person you expected to see.

Stephanie: Well, yes. This is a surprise.

Brooke: It feels kind of strange being back here at Forrester Creations. But to be quite honest -- I didn't know where else to go. I'm kind of at loose ends.

Stephanie: Is everything all right?

Brooke: I stepped down from my position at Logan Designs for a few months.

[ Brooke sighs ]

Stephanie: Yeah. I heard you're taking maternity leave.

Brooke: Oh. News travels fast.

Stephanie: Sally. She's so excited to be taking the reins again.

Brooke: Temporarily, that is.

Stephanie: How are you?

Brooke: Hanging in there.

Stephanie: I know this is a difficult time for you. So many difficult choices to make.

Brooke: Even though I haven't been able to make one decision.

Stephanie: I noticed you weren't wearing nick's ring.

Brooke: No. Not yet. Oh, Stephanie, I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to wear it.

[ Deacon grunts ]

Deacon: I was kinda wondering when you might show up.

Jackie: I'm here to lay down some ground rules, Deacon.

Deacon: Rules? I've never been too good at following them.

Jackie: You are never to call me or come to my house again.

Deacon: You know what they say? If the mountain won't come to Mohammed --

Jackie: Then Mohammed should definitely take a hint. Don't contact Massimo, me, my family, anyone -- ever again. Do you understand?

Deacon: Wow. That hurts right here. Hurts.

Jackie: Deacon, it's simply too dangerous. I mean, come on, you're a smart guy -- you should get that.

Deacon: Come on, Jackie, that's what intrigues you about me.

Jackie: That you're smart?

Deacon: Well, not according to your husband. No, 'cause I'm dangerous. I mean, that is my rep after all, isn't it? So, is that it?

Jackie: What?

Deacon: The "rules" that you came to lay down?

Jackie: Yes. That just about covers it.

Deacon: There's nothing else you want to lay down.

Jackie: What were you expecting?

Deacon: I don't know. I just hoped that maybe you had something to say about that kiss I laid on you.

[ Jackie scoffs ]

Jackie: That? I'd completely forgotten about that.

Deacon: Well, that is a shame. 'Cause I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

Nick: What kind of man am I? I don't know.

Ridge: How could you not know?

Nick: Probably because I haven't thought about it much.

Ridge: Or maybe you were just afraid of what you'd find.

Nick: No. I just have better things to do with my time, Forrester.

Ridge: Well, Brooke has thought about it.

Nick: Probably so.

Ridge: And yet, she's still not wearing your ring, is she, nick?

Nick: I thought I told you, I don't really analyze stuff much. You know that old saying -- good things come to those who wait.

Ridge: Question is, how long are you willing to wait?

Nick: I don't really see how that's your business any more.

Ridge: Oh, of course it is, nick. See, I'm concerned about my little brother. Seems like this attempt of yours to get Brooke to accept your proposal is kind of like pulling teeth these days. Is this the way you want it, nick? Your wife walking down the aisle with tears in her eyes because she really wants to be with me?!

Brooke: How can I wear Nick's ring, feeling the way I do about Ridge?

Stephanie: Brooke, we have talked, and talked, and talked about this.

Brooke: I know. It's just so much been harder than I anticipated.

Stephanie: I realize. You know, walking away from Ridge -- it's very difficult. I do understand that.

Brooke: It's not just ridge -- it's Thomas. And it's the girls. It's Eric. Thorne. Even you, Stephanie. The entire Forrester family has accepted me for the first time in my life. Do you know what that means to me?

Stephanie: I think I do.

Brooke: But if I marry Nick, I'll be losing all of you.

Stephanie: No. You are not going to lose us.

Brooke: But I already feel like I have.

Stephanie: Do you think that after everything that you and I have been through all these years -- that that kind of a relationship is just gonna go away?

Brooke: Even if I marry into another family?

Stephanie: You've been really strong about this -- now don't give up. You know, you're making choices and decisions that even I couldn't make.

Brooke: You mean with Eric?

Stephanie: Yes. Looking back, I was very selfish, wasn't I? Ridge wasn't raised by his natural father.

[ Stephanie sighs ] I don't know. Maybe no matter how I rationalize it, it was wrong.

Brooke: You just wanted to be with the man that you loved.

Stephanie: Yes. And we're all paying for it now, aren't we?

[ Brooke sighs ]

Brooke: But you reconciled with Eric.

Stephanie: And I'm very happy about it. But there are many times when I really feel that both Eric and Massimo think that I robbed them of a son.

Brooke: I never really thought of it that way.

Stephanie: That's why I respect you so much. You're making the hard decisions, the hard choices.

Brooke: I haven't even made a choice yet.

Stephanie: Sure, you did. When you went off to that retreat -- that was the first step. I believe that you're going to find a way to have a good life with Nick. These clean dishes are still dirty.

Deacon: So, Jackie, how're you holding up?

Jackie: Oh! I'm fine -- I'm perfectly fine.

Deacon: Ah, so this is going to be a polite conversation. You know, you don't have to play games with me.

Jackie: I'm not. I really am fine.

Deacon: So everything's cool then. So Nick and Brooke -- they just sailed off into the sunset. Everything's great.

Jackie: Not exactly.

Deacon: Not exactly. So, do you want to fill me in? It's not my fault that -- that I'm the only person you can confide in.

Jackie: Excuse me? I have a husband!

Deacon: Oh, why don't you trot on outta here and go talk to him about this?

Jackie: About what?

Deacon: Gee, I don't know -- about politics. What do you think? About nick! About Brooke! About this paternity test.

Jackie: Will you just stop?! Dr. Paxson ran those tests twice. She said that there was only the most minute chance that --

Deacon: Okay, Jackie, denial ain't just a river in Egypt, okay?

Jackie: Ohhh.

Deacon: Okay. What do you say you and I both take a little stroll down reality lane? It'll be nice. 'Cause we both know that ridge could be this kid's daddy.

Jackie: There's no chance. Not in my mind.

Deacon: Excuse me. And in your mind, there is no secret. In your mind, there's no indiscrepancy. Hell, this whole situation doesn't even exist? By the way, I have given some very serious thought to what it is that I want.

Jackie: Want? For what?

Deacon: For keeping this secret for -- the one that doesn't exist.

Jackie: I kept my end of the bargain -- all right? I got you an interview with my husband.

Deacon: An interview?! No! What you got me was an inquisition! That guy shot me down -- and then he backs up over me for good measure.

Jackie: I'm sorry! It was out of my hands --

Deacon: Well, be that as it may. There's something else I want now. So what do you say? Do you want to know what it is?

Jackie: Do I have a choice?

Stephanie: This is not an easy path that you've chosen. But I do believe there's a better life waiting for you out there.

Brooke: With Nick.

Stephanie: And the baby. His baby. You're going to be a family. Isn't that what you've always wanted? And I really do respect you. You've made some awfully difficult choices -- decisions.

Brooke: Well, your respect -- that is what has given me my strength. It made me stick to my resolve.

[ Brooke sighs ]

Stephanie: You're a strong woman. I'm sorry I didn't see it sooner. There's something that you should know. Something I should've said and I never have -- I love you, sweetheart.

Brooke: What did you say ?

Stephanie: I'm not going to say it again.

Brooke: Never in a million years did I ever think I would ever hear that coming from you.

[ Brooke sobs ]

Ridge: You know I'm right. You see, Brooke wouldn't be marrying you out of love, Nick -- she's just trying to do what's right for her child.

Nick: If that's the way you want to see it.

Ridge: You really gotta ditch those rose-colored glasses, my friend.

Nick: Forrester, I'm aware of the history that you and Brooke have. God, am I aware of this! Ridge and Brooke -- and Brooke and Ridge. That's all I've heard since I've been to Los Angeles.

Ridge: There's a reason for that.

Nick: And I respect what the two of you had. But, come on Forrester, those days are gone. There are two many scratches on that vinyl. About time to change the broken record, don't you think? What?

Deacon: Well, it should be painless. I mean, relatively.

Jackie: The suspense itself is killing me.

Deacon: Been hanging out a lot with my son. Uh, he is a fantastic kid. You gotta meet him. I mean, he's a great kid.

Jackie: I'm sure he is.

Deacon: Anyway, we've been pretty much having macaroni and cheese every night. And frankly, I've had my fill of it. So, if you get my drift.

Jackie: Not particularly.

Deacon: Well, he's with his grandma Tilly tonight. And, um, you know, as much as I entertained the idea of a shiny new Ferrari, I really could kinda use a good meal.

[ Jackie laughs ]

Jackie: What -- you're suggesting that I cook for you? Please -- a domestic goddess, I'm not.

Deacon: What I'm suggesting is a nice quiet night -- a little dinner. A beautiful dinner companion. What do you say?

Jackie: Tell me about your son.

Deacon: That kid -- he's as smart as a whip. And he can already hit a curve ball outside of the park. It's --

[ Jackie chuckles ]

Jackie: Sounds like a chip off the old block.

Deacon: Yeah.

Jackie: What about his mother?

Deacon: Um, long story short. I had a one night stand with this chick. I got a kid.

Jackie: Oh. So, the two of you -- you weren't very close?

Deacon: We were for 20 minutes. I pretty much treated her like crap.

Jackie: Oh! Well, that's romantic.

Deacon: Hey, look, just be glad you met me now. If you met the guy I used to be, and I had this little secret of yours, I would be raking you over the coals.

Jackie: Sounds like you've changed for the better.

Deacon: Hmm. Yeah, I know -- I guess I had to, you know, for my son. Always been kind of a loner -- suppose I still am.

Jackie: But you've had relationships. I mean, you were married before.

Deacon: Yup, guilty as charged. You want to hear a little secret? I have always wound up with the sweetest girls. I don't know how. I always have.

Jackie: And now?

Deacon: Now my tastes have matured.

Jackie: What exactly is it that you want from me, Deacon?

Nick: After all the years that you two have gone back and forth. Don't you think you might have skipped out on the fun part?

Ridge: No, actually, Brooke and I have had a lot of fun together.

Nick: Oh, please! Brooke could irrigate the entire city of Los Angeles with the tears she's cried over you. Is that what you consider love? This magical, mystical bond that no one can ever break? You know, it's that kind of thinking that drives a man crazy, Forrester. And much as it kills me to see you hurting like this, I'm not apologizing any more. I'm not gonna feel guilty about this any more!

Ridge: Oh, please. Like you've ever, ever given a damn about me.

Nick: I have. And I still do. But the fact is, I'm having a child with Brooke. And that's where my loyalty is. With her and the kid. It's a situation you're gonna have to learn to accept.

Ridge: Not even if hell freezes over, Nick. And Brooke's not going to accept it either. You know that?

Nick: Oh, she needs someone.

Ridge: But it's not you.

Brooke: You love me? That's what you said. After all these years that I've known you you've just always wanted to get rid of me or get me as far away from your family as possible.

Stephanie: Well, that's true.

Brooke: And now to hear you say how much you respect me -- and you love me --

Stephanie: Trust me, no one is more surprised than I am.

Brooke: Well, thank you, Stephanie. Because after everything I've done to you and how much I've hurt the people that you love, you still forgive me.

Stephanie: Well, you've proven yourself.

Brooke: You mean that, don't you?

Stephanie: I've been waiting all this time for you to grow up, and you finally have.

Brooke: I never thought people changed.

Stephanie: Most people don't.

Brooke: I don't think I could have if it wasn't for you.

Stephanie: Now you're stuck with me.

Brooke: Yes, and I can trust you. I mean, I can truly trust you. And I can't tell you how much that means to me. To really believe in your guidance and know that I don't have to worry about an ulterior motive.

Stephanie: And it all comes about now, when your life is going off in a totally opposite direction. I really, really would have been so happy at this moment to have you as my daughter-in-law. But you're going off with Nick and his child -- your child. And for you to try and have a life with Ridge would only end up hurting everyone -- especially the baby. I think your journey with the Forrester family is finally over.

Brooke: Stephanie --

Stephanie: You and I just have to accept that some things happen for the best.

Brooke: You really think so?

Stephanie: Yes, I do. I do.
