Thomas: That cell phone bill is going to be in the hundreds with you guys. It was bad enough when they talked in their secret "twin code." But now that you've armed them with cell phones, it's all over.

Steffy: You're right. Totally.

Thomas: What?

Phoebe: It smells like you took a bath in your cologne!

Thomas: You guys are lucky it's your birthday.

Brooke: You know, I could be wrong, but I think the girls have a new message.

Steffy: You're right, Brooke.

Phoebe: Dad does have strawberry in his teeth.

Ridge: What?

Brooke: Gotcha!

Brooke: Now he really does.

Ridge: Two can play that game, you know.

Thomas: Man, back when I was a kid, we communicated through handwritten letters.

Phoebe: Handwritten?

[ Laughter ]

                        ****************************************************************************************

[ knocking on door ]

Sally: Yeah, come on in. The door's open!

Darla: No?

[ Darla laughs ]

Thorne: Whoa.

Darla: Holy --

Sally: Hello, you two. How was the movie?

Darla: It was good. But what the heck has been going on around here? It looks like something exploded.

Sally: Well, Darla, maybe that's because something has exploded -- my newest passion!

Darla: Come again?

Sally: Well, can't you see it, Darla? This is it! This is my latest calling!

Thorne: This is your calling?

Sally: Yes! I'm telling you, those art classes I was taking over at the museum, they have given me a whole new lease on life, huh. They have helped me locate my inner Picasso! Take a look.

Darla: Oh.

Sally: Huh? What do you give it? What do you see?

Darla: Thorne?

Thorne: Um, I definitely see a lot of -- anguish --

Darla: Ooh.

Thorne: -- In this piece.

Sally: I call this my rendition of the agony and pain in the human soul.

Darla: Mm-hmm. When you gonna finish it?

Sally: It is finished!

Darla: Oh. I'm sorry. Ha. What the heck do I know about modern art? Nothing. It looks like you're having fun with it, though. So -- whee!

Sally: Oh, Darla, honey. Honey, I'm telling you, I am having more than fun with it. You know, when I finally decided to stop competing in that dog-eat-dog world of the fashion industry, a whole new revelation came to me, you know? I mean, when I look at this -- when I look at this, I see a whole new woman. I see a woman who -- I see a woman who obviously has way too much time on her hands. Sorry. What am I doing? I don't know. If Saul were here, he would say --

[ Imitating Saul ] "Sally, that is not art, that is dreck!" The truth is, I really don't give an abstract expressionist painter's behind about becoming the next Picasso or Pollack or anybody else. There's only one thing I want -- Spectra Fashions. I want it right back in these dirty little hands of mine, where it belongs.

                        ******************************************************************************************************

[ Doorbell rings ]

Hudson: Oh, hi, Mr. Garrison.

Clarke: Hello.

Hudson: Mr. Marone's expecting you.

Clarke: Oh, excellent.

Massimo: Thank you, Hudson. Come in, please.

Clarke: Hello. I hope I'm not disturbing you at home here, sir.

Massimo: Not at all. Although I am curious as to what I owe this visit. Is something wrong with the spring collection?

Clarke: Oh, no. No. I've got that under control. In fact, I could have everything under control, if you will let me.

                        **********************************************************************************

Darla: Sal, I've read that adjusting to retirement can take quite awhile, you know? Maybe it's just gonna take a little time.

Sally: It's going to take more than a little time to adjust to the fact that i sold myself out! I lost my own company. I handed it over to Massimo Marone because I thought he was a friend. And then he invited Ridge Forrester into the mix, and he decided to change the name from Spectra Fashions to Logan Designs. And not only that, while I stood by doing nothing, he made Brooke Logan CEO of my company!

Thorne: Sally, look, I'm sorry, okay? I know it's been a tough year for you.

Sally: I will tell you how bad this year has been. The only people in this business that were nice to me were your parents!

Thorne: Well, sally, it wasn't entirely benevolent on their part. I mean, they knew the experience that you bring to the table.

Sally: You see, the problem is, there's only one table I'm interested in sitting at, and that is Spectra's.

Darla: Oh, honey, it's hard to let go, huh?

Sally: You don't know the half of it, Darla. And I'll tell you the biggest reason why it's hard to let go -- because I know I could make it work again. I know I could make Spectra Fashions a success all over again! I could turn this bucket of bolts into the biggest hit in town! I know I can do it.

                        **************************************************************************************

Massimo: Have a seat.

Clarke: Thank you. I brought you some cigars. I believe they're your favorites.

Massimo: Yeah, thank you. What is it you want, Clarke?

Clarke: That's what I like -- a man who gets right to the point.

Massimo: It saves time.

Clarke: All right. I understand that Brooke may be stepping down as CEO while she goes on maternity leave. Which, of course, she deserves to.

Massimo: Well, she's going to have to take some time to prepare for her new son.

Clarke: That's what I like about you. You've got a great heart. Not only do you create billion-dollar businesses that are huge successes, but you treat your employees with respect. You give your employees the breaks that they deserve, that they've earned.

Massimo: And?

Clarke: And in this spirit, Massimo, I would like to propose myself as interim CEO of Logan Designs while Brooke's gone.

                        **************************************************************************************************

[ Brooke sighs ]

Brooke: I miss this.

Phoebe: We do, too.

Brooke: I need to tell you something.

Ridge: Brooke, it's --

Brooke: No, really, let me just say this. I know that you were all counting on me to be here as a wife, as a stepmother. And I'm just sorry that I haven't been able to be here for you -- at least not the way I wanted to.

Steffy: That's okay. It's not your fault.

Brooke: Yes, it is, Steffy. I wasn't even sure if I should come here today, if you wanted me here.

Phoebe: That's all we wanted.

Ridge: I was trying to manage the girls' expectations.

Steffy: But we already had our hopes up.

Brooke: Well, I didn't know that. I was just hoping that somebody would call me.

Thomas: They just didn't want you to feel obligated to come.

Brooke: Obligated? I am thrilled. I am thrilled to be here celebrating this very special day with you. You're growing up so fast. It means you're becoming young women.

Ridge: Who won't be allowed to date until you're 30.

Phoebe: Get real!

Steffy: You don't have to worry, dad. Phoebe and I will look out for each other.

Thomas: Please. If any boys mess with my sisters, they're going to have to answer to me.

Brooke: I think what Thomas is trying to say is that you'll never have to be alone.

[ Brooke sighs ] and I got you something to make sure you never forget that. Happy Birthday.

                        *****************************************************************************

Darla: Oh, Sal, maybe you should just concentrate on your art.

[ Sally laughs ]

Thorne: You know, Sal, there is more to life than just business.

[ Sally sighs ]

Sally: Yeah, but you see, Spectra Fashions has always been more than just a business to me. It was never just a business. It was my whole life. It was my family. And I want to find a way to get it back. I want to get it back the way it was!

Darla: Oh, Sal. But the only way you can do that is --

Sally: What? By talking Massimo Marone into giving it back to me, right?!

Darla: Yeah.

Sally: Yeah.

                        *********************************************************************************

Clarke: Massimo, I have been a pivotal member of the team over there at Spectra -- therefore Logan Designs -- for years. I've been there longer than almost anyone. With the exception of Sally, of course. And I'd like to prove what I can do for the company.

Massimo: Well, shouldn't you be doing that already?

Clarke: I'd like to prove it as CEO. Think about it, sir. I know the people. I have the history. I have --

Massimo: But you don't have the numbers, Garrison.

Clarke: The numbers?

Massimo: Yes. Those digits that contribute to the bottom line -- or in Logan's case detract from. Look, ever since Ridge left as lead designer, our sales have been plummeting. Which an aspiring chief executive officer should know, hmm? So if you want to continue in the position that you hold now, I strongly suggest that you focus on improving your designs, not on these lofty ideas about becoming CEO. Do I make myself clear?

Clarke: Crystal.

Massimo: Besides, I have something very different in mind for the company.

                        *****************************************************************************************

Brooke: Go ahead. Open them!

Ridge: You didn't have to do this, Logan.

Brooke: I wanted to.

Steffy: Cool!

Phoebe: This is beautiful, Brooke.

Brooke: It's two hearts -- yours and mine. I want you to know that you can always count on me. This could be a very exciting time in your life, but it could also be overwhelming. You're going to need a woman in your life.

Phoebe: We need you, Brooke.

Brooke: And I need you.

Phoebe: Dad says that doesn't have to change just because you don't live here anymore.

Brooke: That's true. Your dad's right. So much of my thoughts are occupied with you girls and Thomas. I wish I could be here every night for you, helping you with homework --

Thomas: Well, I could sure use some help on my chemistry.

Brooke: Really? Well, come by the office any time. I'd be glad to help you. And I wish I could be here for you two girls when you're old enough to start going to school dances -- helping you get ready, putting on your makeup. But I'm not.

Phoebe: You're here now, Brooke.

Steffy: Which means a lot to us.

Phoebe: We should be thankful for what we have, not dwell on what we don't.

Brooke: You certainly can't argue that. You have turned into exceptional young women.

Steffy: It helps that we have a great family.

Phoebe: With you here, we feel more like a family than we have been in a long, long time.

Brooke: Come here. Oh, I love you. You know that?

                        *****************************************************************************************

Thorne: Massimo's not the type to hand over a company out of the kindness of his heart, Sally.

Sally: Don't I know it. But listen -- a girl can dream, can't she?!

Darla: Of course she can, sweetheart. That's right.

[ Phone rings ]

Darla: Get your phone.

Sally: Hello?

Massimo: It's Massimo.

Sally: Oh, really?

Massimo: Is this the former CEO of Logan -- or as you know and love it, Spectra Fashions?

Sally: Did you say Spectra?!

Massimo: That's right. Yes. I would love to see you tomorrow.

Sally: Oh, really? What about?

Massimo: I have a business proposition that I have a feeling is right up your alley.

Sally: Ah, well, when? When were you planning this, huh?

Massimo: How is the morning? Is that good for you? Let's say 9:00?

Sally: Yes. I just checked my schedule, and I will admit that I do have a small window of availability at that time.

Massimo: Fine. I look forward to seeing you.

Sally: That was Massimo. Massimo!

Darla: Yeah?

Sally: He says he's got some kind of business proposition for me!

Thorne: About Spectra?

Sally: Could this be the miracle I've been waiting for?! Oh, Darla!

[ Darla laughs ]

Darla: Okay, that's great! Oh, my god.

[ Thorne laughs ]

                        *****************************************************************************************

Ridge: Thanks for coming by. It meant the world to the kids.

Brooke: You don't have to thank me. There's nowhere else I'd rather be. Besides, I got you a little something.

Ridge: Is it my birthday?

Brooke: No, but I saw it in a jewelry store, and it reminded me of you. So --

Ridge: Hmm?

Brooke: Here, open it.

Ridge: A necklace?

Brooke: You like it?

Ridge: Yeah. It's beautiful. Kind of reminds me of the ones I always like to wear.

Brooke: If I remember correctly, I got those for you, too.

Ridge: Yeah. As a symbol of our commitment to each other.

Brooke: Here. Let me help you put it on.

Ridge: I heard Nick brought the ring back to you, and I don't see you wearing it.

Brooke: No. Just wasn't ready to take that step. Not yet.

Ridge: Still at it, huh?

Brooke: What?

Ridge: The full-court press with the guitar, the love songs, all that stuff?

Brooke: Ridge.

Ridge: Hey, my sarcasm's my only defense these days. Don't take that away from me.

Brooke: Well, I guess I'd better go.

Ridge: I guess.

Ridge: Good night.

Brooke: Good night.
