Amber: I'm sorry. I just can't believe anyone would dump a guy like you.

Hector: It was a complicated issue.

Amber: Breakups always are. Believe me, I know.

Hector: Then you know how uncomfortable it is to talk about it.

Amber: In other words, let it go. You know, I could give you the same advice.

Hector: Let it go?

Amber: I mean, from what you say, this girl broke your heart years ago. Right? Then why are you letting it affect your relationship with your daughter now?

Hector: I'm just trying to protect Caitlin.

Amber: From a stuck-up little debutante who crushed your ego? I mean, come on, it can't be that bad. I mean, you're acting like this girl scarred you for life.

Jackie: Darling, I thought that you had to go back to the office.

Massimo: False alarm.

Jackie: I was just telling Hudson about your conversation with Brooke.

Hudson: I'm sure she appreciates your support.

Massimo: Well, I hope she took my advice. By the way, has anyone heard from Dominick?

Jackie: No, not yet. But we will.

Hudson: Hopefully, it'll be good news.

Massimo: Ah, this family certainly could use it.

Jackie: Massimo, I thought that you were feeling -- optimistic about this.

Massimo: Well, let's say that I am cautiously optimistic.

Jackie: Hmm.

Hudson: It seems your son has thrown caution to the wind.

Jackie: You know, there's not a woman out there that can resist a man when he bares his soul. How do you think that you won me over, hmm?

[ Massimo chuckles ]

Massimo: Let's hope that Dominick's song has the same effect on Brooke.

Jackie: You really have come to accept her, haven't you?

Massimo: Well, I want what's best for our family, and so does she.

Hudson: What about Ridge?

Massimo: Ah, Ridge -- he's not going to move on until he finally realizes that his life with Brooke is no longer an option for him.

Hudson: Until she accept Nick's proposal?

Massimo: Yes, but that is not the reason I support it. You know I love Thomas and the girls, I mean, with all my heart. I mean, they are precious to me. I wish that they had been born into this family, but they weren't. They were not raised with our traditions and our history. The same as I was raised, the same as my father. But see, this child is going to be a part of our history from the day that he is born.

Jackie: Oh, darling, I wish Brooke could hear you talking.

Massimo: She knows how I feel.

Jackie: And I'm sure she's very, very grateful. So am I.

Massimo: If you'd like to show me just how grateful you are --

[ Jackie laughs ]

[ Phone rings ] Hudson, would you get that please?

Jackie: No. No -- no, no, no, no. I'll get it.

Massimo: Ignore it.

Jackie: It's my cell phone. It could be Nicky. I'll be right back. One second. Hello?

Deacon: Jackie, it's Deacon. Don't hang up.

Ridge: You want to tell me why you weren't in school?

Thomas: I had to buy more presents for Steffy and Phoebe's birthday.

Ridge: Hmm, how about the real reason?

Thomas: Teacher workday.

Ridge: Was I supposed to get a note about that?

Thomas: Dad, I'm trying to tell you about Caitlin.

Ridge: Ah, yes, of course. Girls are a lot more important than your schoolwork, of course.

Thomas: I got her a job at Logan Designs.

Ridge: What happened to the internship at Forrester?

Thomas: Her dad doesn't want her working there.

Ridge: Why not?

Thomas: I thought you might know.

Ridge: Me? No.

Thomas: You played soccer against him in high school. His name is Hector Ramirez.

Ridge: Ramirez. Yeah. The freshman from across town.

Thomas: Did you guys ever mix it up?

Ridge: No.

Thomas: Well, it must have been something. He thinks our family is dangerous.

Ridge: Why would he have anything against us?

Hector: Do you want a refill? I'm going to go to the bar.

Amber: Yeah, I'd love one. I think I'm gonna go check out the dessert tray.

Samantha: Amber?

Amber: Samantha, hey.

Samantha: How are you? I heard about the fire. Are you okay?

Amber: Oh, yeah, I'm fine.

Samantha: Rick told me that your whole apartment was destroyed.

Amber: Yeah, totally. And I would have gone up, too, if this amazing fireman hadn't just pulled me out.

Samantha: You could have died?

Amber: Yeah, I mean, him, too. But he didn't even think twice, just dove right into the fire.

Samantha: That's amazing.

Amber: Yeah. You know, I mean, he's pretty modest about it. But apparently, he does this kind of thing all the time.

Samantha: Well, that man is a hero.

Amber: Yeah.

Samantha: Mm-hmm.

Amber: He sure is. You should tell him that. He's standing right behind you.

Jackie: I'm sorry. This is not a good time.

Deacon: I need to see to you.

Jackie: I'm right in the middle of something.

Deacon: Get out of it.

Jackie: That's not possible.

Deacon: I have news. I have good news.

Jackie: That's good. Then we should schedule a meeting.

Deacon: I'm parked outside at the gate.

Jackie: Pardon me?

Deacon: Yeah. Yeah, I'm right at the end of the street in the car.

Jackie: What could possibly be that urgent?

Deacon: Well, why don't you come down here, and I'll tell you.

Jackie: I can't.

Deacon: Okay. All right. Well, then, just, you know, buzz me in. I'll come up.

Jackie: No. No, no, no, that won't be necessary.

Deacon: So, then you're coming.

Jackie: As soon as I can.

Deacon: I'll be waiting.

Jackie: Oh, darling, that was the office. I've got to go and make a few phone calls.

Massimo: Fine. I'll wait for you.

Jackie: Okay. I won't be long.

Massimo: Then we can pick up where we left off.

Jackie: Okay.

Massimo: Yeah.

Thomas: Something's not right, dad. It just doesn't make any sense.

Ridge: You say Hector has a personal grudge against our family.

Thomas: That's what it seems like.

Ridge: But you're not sure about that?

Thomas: Caitlin's trying to find out, but she's not having any luck.

Ridge: Why doesn't she just ask him?

Thomas: She has. He says to trust him. He's just trying to protect her.

Ridge: Against us?

Thomas: See? It's weird.

Ridge: Maybe you should just stay out of it.

Thomas: Hey, the internship was Samantha's idea.

Ridge: Oh, and you had absolutely nothing to do with it?

Thomas: I told Samantha how much she wanted to be a designer. How important this internship was to her.

Ridge: I don't have to ask how important she is to you.

Thomas: I'm just trying to help.

Ridge: Yeah. Well, let's hope her father sees it that way.

Hector: Samantha Kelly.

Samantha: Hector -- it's been a long time.

Hector: Yes, it has.

Samantha: I wondered if you were still in town.

Hector: I never left.

Samantha: How have you been?

Hector: Busy. I have a lot of responsibilities.

Samantha: Oh, yeah. Amber told me about your job.

Amber: So, you two know each other?

Samantha: It was years ago. I never thought I'd see you again.

Hector: Well, it would have been better if we hadn't.

Samantha: Hector, it's been years. There's no reason why we can't --

Hector: Amber, thank you for lunch. I have to go.

Samantha: Hey, why are you so angry? I don't understand.

Hector: I didn't think you would.

Samantha: Can't we talk?

Hector: No. We're going to forget we saw each other. You're going to go back to your perfect life in Beverly Hills. And leave us alone. I said, leave us alone!

Samantha: It was nice seeing you again, too.

Amber: Excuse me, Mr. Hyde? What was that all about?

Jackie: All right. What is it, Deacon?

Deacon: Did you miss me?

Jackie: I don't have time for games. My husband is waiting for me. Say what it is you have to say, and get off my property.

Deacon: Jackie, I didn't have to come over here.

Jackie: Then why did you?

Deacon: Well, I just -- I figured you'd want to know what captain Nicky and Brooke were up to.

Jackie: You saw them?

Deacon: Yeah. I caught the afternoon show at Chuck's.

Jackie: Oh, then you heard the song?

Deacon: Yeah. Nick definitely has his mother's charm.

Jackie: How did Brooke react?

Deacon: You mean, before or after he kissed her?

Jackie: He did?

Deacon: Yeah. The guy pulled out all the stops.

Jackie: I told him -- I said, "Nicky, all you have to do is just be honest." It's --

[ Jackie sighs ]

Deacon: I think she got the message.

Jackie: Really?

Deacon: Yeah. Yeah, trust me. She ate it up.

Jackie: Oh!

Deacon: See? Now, you're glad. You're happy I came, right.

Jackie: I knew it. I just knew it was a matter of time before Brooke gave in to her feelings. This is such wonderful news.

Deacon: Told you.

Jackie: Oh, thank you, Deacon. Thank you. I can't tell you what this means to me.

Thomas: Caitlin's dad doesn't want her working at Forrester. Now, she's not.

Ridge: You know, this is between Caitlin and her father?

Thomas: But he's not being reasonable.

Ridge: You're overstepping here.

Thomas: Look, Caitlin's really talented. She can't just give up fashion because her dad has a problem with our family.

Ridge: Does Samantha know about his reservations?

Thomas: I explained the situation. Sam came up with a solution.

Ridge: Did she talk to him about it?

Thomas: Who, Mr. Ramirez? No.

Ridge: Don't you think she should?

Thomas: Okay. Here you go, again, getting all parental.

Ridge: No, I'm just -- I'm not saying it's a bad idea. I know Samantha can be a great influence on Caitlin.

Thomas: Yeah, actually Samantha and Caitlin really hit it off.

Ridge: I'm sure they did. I can't imagine anybody not liking Sam. But we're talking about Mr. Ramirez here. And as a single father, I know how hard it is, especially trying to raise a teenager.

Thomas: Caitlin's a good girl.

Ridge: Okay, then. You've got her father to thank for that.

Ridge: You know, I think you should cut him some slack here, kiddo. I'm sure he's just doing what he thinks is best.

Amber: I think you owe me an explanation, Hector.

Hector: Why?

Amber: Because you made me look like a complete idiot. I was just standing there telling Sam what an incredible guy you are, and then you turn around and bite her head off!

Hector: Look, I don't want you telling Samantha Kelly anything about me.

Amber: Apparently, she knows you a lot better than I do.

Hector: No, she doesn't. She doesn't know me at all. Okay? If she did, she --

Amber: She wouldn't have what? She wouldn't have tried to talk to you? Well, I'm sure she -- she wishes that she hadn't. You know, what is it with you two? You know, she said you guys knew each other when you were young and -- is she the girl? Hmm? Is she the little rich girl who broke your heart? Oh, come on. You can't still be mad at her. I mean, that was years ago.

Hector: Why do you care?

Amber: Because we're colleagues.

Hector: What? You work together?

Amber: I mean, we're in the same business. I used to be a fashion designer.

Hector: Where?

Amber: Where do you think?

Hector: Not Forrester creations?

Amber: Like the last name wasn't a dead giveaway?

Hector: Amber Forrester.

[ Hector sighs ]

Amber: I thought you knew when you came to visit me in the hospital.

Hector: No, I didn't. Okay? Look, I just -- I want to be alone, all right?

Amber: So, you're kicking me out?

Hector: I'm sorry, Amber. I can't get into this with you.

Amber: Well, too bad. Too bad. Because you ran into a burning building for me, Hector. I'm not gonna leave you.

Massimo: Hudson, is Jacqueline still on the phone?

Hudson: No, I believe she's taking a walk.

Massimo: A walk? Huh, that sounds nice. I think I'll join her.

Hudson: I thought you might.

Deacon: I never would have even believed, if I didn't see it with my own eyes, that anybody could hold a candle to Ridge in Brooke's eyes. You know, I -- I gotta tell you, I think Nick managed to eclipse him today.

Jackie: Yeah, I think everything's going to work out.

Deacon: Looks that way.

Jackie: Mm-hmm. You wouldn't object to the engagement?

Deacon: Not if Nick's the right guy. I think he'd be good for Brooke. I think -- I think he'd be good for my daughter.

Jackie: You really, really wouldn't have a problem with that?

Deacon: Hope's going to be raised in a family with two parents that love each other. Jackie, that's a hell of a lot more than I ever had. Plus, I get the double satisfaction of knowing that, um, you know, I had something to do with it.

Jackie: Deacon, we didn't have anything to do with it. Nicky and Brooke -- they're meant for each other.

Deacon: I guess there's no arguing when the fates throw two people together, is there?

Hector: I don't need your help.

Amber: I think you do.

[ Hector sighs ]

Hector: You don't understand.

Amber: Well, I'd like to. So talk to me. Tell me why you're upset.

Hector: I can't.

Amber: Because I know Samantha?

Hector: No, you don't. You may think you do. So did I.

Amber: Well, obviously she hurt you badly.

Hector: It happened a long time ago. I was young. She was younger even.

[ Hector sighs ] It never should have happened. I knew her parents hated me. To them I was just "that Ramirez boy." But not to her. I thought we had something special.
