Brooke: I'm sorry, Nick. I can't wear this ring. Not now, not when so many lives could be affected.

Nick: Brooke --

Brooke: Please, just listen to me. It's not that I don't think you're wonderful. Because you are. It's just that I've loved Ridge all of my life. And there were so many obstacles that we had to overcome to be together. And we did. We overcame all of them, and -- just a few months ago, Ridge and I were happily married, and now his brother's asking me to be his wife. Don't you see? This is all happening too quickly.

Nick: But this isn't about us! It's about this child! Don't you hear me when I tell you that?! It's about the life we want to give this boy. That's why -- and I don't mean to sound like I don't understand your feelings for Forrester, because I do. But we both acknowledged it's time to move on, and sooner the better. I'm standing right in front of you right now, telling you from my heart that I'm ready to make a life together -- a life with the two of us and our son.

[ Jackie sighs ]

Jackie: Oh, my. I just can't believe I fell apart like that.

Deacon: It's nothing to be ashamed of.

Jackie: Still, what you must think of me.

Deacon: What the hell do you care what I think of you? You want to know what I think of you? I think that you're a -- I think you're a good woman. I think that you've been carrying around this ridiculous secret, and it's starting to get to you. So you know what the secret to a secret is? You can't let it start running your life. Which unfortunately, in your case is -- well, that's gone bye-bye a long time ago. You're lucky, because you got me. You see, if I hadn't overheard this, then you'd be carrying it around by your lonesome.

Jackie: Um, are you saying that I should be grateful?

Deacon: I'm saying that, you know, you can count on me. You know, if the walls start closing in, you know, you can pick the phone up, you can call.

Jackie: Why? What's in it for you?

Deacon: Ouch. That hurts. That why -- I know pain, all right? I've been there. And I can see you're in a lot of it. I'm in a good mood. I thought maybe I wouldn't add to it.

Jackie: Yes, well, there's only one way not to do that.

Deacon: I know, I know you keep telling me that nick might be the father of the kid and -- okay, it's cool. You convinced me.

                        ************************************************************************************

Hector: Caitlin?

Caitlin: Hi.

Hector: I heard about the puppy. Your brother told me.

Caitlin: Okay. Well, before you read me the riot act, I'm old enough to do things on my own.

Hector: Hmm. Like get into a car with a boy I hardly know?

Caitlin: Thomas and I did not do anything wrong. In fact, we did something really nice for a friend of his family.

Hector: Sweetheart, how many times do I --

Caitlin: Dad, please! You never used to question my judgment. But lately that's all you seem to do.

Hector: It's because I'm worried about you. I just don't want to see you get hurt.

Caitlin: I'm not going to get hurt. But even if I do, that's part of life. You can't protect me from everything, right? I love you, dad.

Hector: I love you, too, honey. But there's still more we need to talk about.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Caitlin: I guess that'll have to wait. Good night.

Hector: Good night.

                        ***************************************************************************************

Brooke: You're an amazing man.

Nick: That's your way of telling me I'm a pain in the ass, isn't it? Huh? You know, being a dad is a big deal to me. I want this kid to have a stable home -- something I didn't have growing up. And I can't do it without you.

Brooke: I know. Whoa.

Nick: What is it?

Brooke: This baby's been kicking up a storm while we've been talking.

Nick: Really?

Brooke: Mm-hmm.

Nick: You can feel that?

Brooke: Oh, yeah. Here -- feel.

Nick: Whoa! Wow. That's amazing. He must want to get out of there, see how pretty his mom is. We can have it all, Brooke, wherever you're ready. How about Bruce?

Brooke: Bruce?

Nick: Bruce. Yeah, I'm thinking Bruce because, well, you know, you're agile and coordinated and -- Bruce. You know, Bruce Lee Marone, kind of like a --

[ Nick makes karate sounds ]

[ Brooke laughs ] feel him kicking in there, huh? What's so funny?

Brooke: You're crazy.

Nick: Let's see what you got. Show me.

Brooke: Me?

Nick:Yeah, come on. We're coordinated. Let's have it. Okay, show me where he gets the kick from.

[ Brooke makes karate sounds ]

[ Nick laughs ]

Brooke: That was pretty bad.

Nick: It's nice to see we're both just a little nerdy, aren't we, huh? Okay.

[ Brooke laughs ]

                        **********************************************************************************************

Jackie: You really mean that?

Deacon: What do you want me to do, notarize it?

Jackie: It's all right. You know, it's -- it's not that I don't --

Deacon: What, that you don't trust me? Relax, you're not the first. Don't let this get out, but every now and then, I am known to do the decent thing, which is what I'm doing by being straight with you right now. Look, you don't have to bare your soul to anybody -- not to Massimo, not to me, because what you're -- what you're doing, you're doing 'cause you love your son. There's nobody that can fault you for that, least of all me. I understand it. I do. But see, I gotta tell you, you're going to get through this. You wanna know why? Because you've got me. I know this -- you're a very beautiful woman, Jackie. You don't deserve this mess.

Jackie: I should be going home.

Deacon: Are you sure about that? You look -- upset.

Jackie: No, I'm fine. I just should be getting back to Massimo, that's all.

Deacon: Hmm, Massimo.

Jackie: And he is my husband.

Deacon: He certainly is.

Jackie: Thank you, Deacon, for everything.

                        ******************************************************************************************

[ Door closing ]

Hector: Here you go. This should take the chill off.

Amber: Oh, thanks.

Hector: So the hospital released you a couple of hours ago?

Amber: Uh, yeah. They even washed my clothes.

Hector: And you've been wandering around ever since?

Amber: Well, um, I -- I couldn't bear going back to my apartment. Not that there's anything left, because I lost everything. Oh, look, you don't need this, so I'm going to go.

Hector: Amber, wait. I want to help.

Amber: You already did. You saved my life.

Hector: "So now you have to pick up the pieces, for this thing called 'failure' is not the falling down --"

Amber: "-- But the staying down."

Hector: You remembered.

Amber: That's what you told me at the hospital, after the fire.

Hector: Yeah. I -- I wasn't sure I'd gotten through.

Amber: Well, you did, in more ways than you know.

                        ***************************************************************************************

Nick: There you are! I was about to give up on you.

Jackie: Hello, Nicky.

Nick: Hello, mother. Where have we been? Or should I tell you?

                        **********************************************************************************************

Amber: So that's probably why I ended up here. I couldn't get what you said to me out of my head. You made me realize that I have a life worth saving, even if I don't know where I'm going from here or how I'm going to get there.

Hector: Hey, whose life has a road map anyway, right? No one knows what's down the road or around the bend. But for now, till you get things figured out, you're more than welcome to stay here.

Amber: Wait, is that why you think I showed up on your doorstep -- so I could just sponge off of you?

Hector: Hey, who's talking about a free ride? Everybody around here earns their keep. Ask Jimmy or Caitlin.

Amber: Your wife and son?

Hector: No, my daughter and my son. I'm a single dad. Hey, I'm gonna make you something to eat, okay? And don't even think about giving me a hard time. You just got out of the hospital. You need to get your strength back, okay? The couch isn't bad, so make yourself at home.

                        **************************************************************************************

Jackie: Has Massimo been asking for me?

Nick: No, he's still at the office. Are you okay? You're acting a little weird, like you're upset about something.

Jackie: Do I?

Nick: Yeah. You heard about what happened at the office, didn't you? The big blowup.

Jackie: Yes, I did, and I am very worried. Things are just getting out of control.

Nick: I feel the same way you do about the whole situation, but we're gonna get through it, okay? Things are gonna work out fine. So put that smile back on your face for me, will you?

Jackie: Better?

Nick: Much. You still haven't told me where you were.

Jackie: Um, well, why don't we talk about you and where you were. With Brooke, I hope.

Nick: I gave the ring back to her.

Jackie: And?

Nick: And she shot me down which is probably the smartest thing she could have done.

Jackie: Sweetheart, she didn't shoot you down. She just needs more time, that's all. And it's understandable under the circumstances.

Nick: I know that, mother. I understand the scenario. I've heard it over and over and over again. It's just that this kid, you know?

Jackie: What about my grandson?

Nick: I felt him kicking today in her stomach.

Jackie: Oh, darling, you felt your son kick?

Nick: Yeah. We're thinking of naming him Bruce Lee Marone. What do you think?

Jackie: I like it.

Nick: You'd like it if we named him Horatio Hornblower, mother. It doesn't matter to you.

[ Jackie laughs ]

Jackie: That's because I know how important this child is to you, darling --how much happiness he's already brought into your life.

Nick: I am happy. I want everybody to be happy. I especially want Brooke to be happy, and I think she could if she'd just -- if she'd just let herself.

                        **********************************************************************************

[ Brooke remembering ]

Nick: We can have it all, Brooke, whenever you're ready.

 [Song Playing]

Open up your eyes tell me what you see is there a place for me inside of you

can we both forgive try to just forget forget the past and let today begin

I'm going back again I'll take it to the end remember where we've been and where we have to go

take a look around look at what we've found

and know that we can be what we want to be I'm going back again

every other day I think of what to say but the words, the words are just a part of it

I run to the wall and then I see it all and I dance alone and think of you

I'm going back again I'll take it to the end remember where we've been and where we have to go

take a look around look at what we've found and know that we can be what we want to be

I'm going back again I'm going back again

Brooke: Is this the life that I was meant to have? A life with you, Nick?
