Brooke: Taylor? It can't be

                        *************************************************************************************

Thomas: You must think I'm a real nutcase the way I keep wishing Brooke's baby were my dad's. Not like I can change anything. I mean, my real mother's dead, nothin' I can do about that either.

Caitlin: Not true. She's always with you. Watching over you -- looking out for you.

Thomas: Like your mom is for you?

Caitlin: Yeah, I just know that she's here somewhere, smiling over me. My dad says that the spirit never dies. It's always there to look after others and care for the ones it's loved.

Thomas: Comforting thought.

Caitlin: Well, that's what life's all about. Not about where you live, or how much money you have, or fancy cars or parties --

Thomas: Where'd that come from? Let me guess -- your father.

Caitlin: Dad found this and saw where you go to school.

Thomas: So?

Caitlin: So he reminded me that you come from one world and I come from a completely different one.

Thomas: Is that how you feel?

Caitlin: You have to understand my dad, Thomas. It hasn't been easy on him raising a family all by himself.

Thomas: No, I do understand. My dad's had to do the same thing.

Caitlin: Yeah, but that's where the similarities end. I mean, mine --

Thomas: Wrong. That's where they only just begin.

                        ***************************************************************************************

Phoebe: Get 'em while they're hot!

Ridge: What's all this? Mm -- gooey!

Phoebe: Krispy treats are like fine wine, dad. They're to be savored, not inhaled.

Ridge: Where do you come up with all this stuff, anyway?

Phoebe: How are you doing, dad?

Ridge: Just lovely, thank you for asking.

Phoebe: Didn't you always tell me honesty's the best policy?

Ridge: Touche.

Phoebe: Look, I know today was hard on you, seeing Brooke there with Nick and seeing the ultrasound of their baby. Do you want to talk about it?

                        **************************************************************************************

Taylor: Don't be afraid.

Brooke: Taylor -- it is you. But how?

Taylor: I sensed you needed help.

Brooke: You have no idea. Well, maybe you do. I've been trying to find my way, but --

Taylor: It's hard to ignore your heart.

Brooke: Exactly. This is so amazing. I can't believe you're here. I've been trying to be more like you -- a better person.

Taylor: I know you've changed. I know your devotion to this child transcends all else -- including your own needs. And I know you're determined to build a life for him based on honor and dignity.

Brooke: I am. But, no matter what I do, I feel like I'm letting somebody down. Ridge, your children -- they're devastated. And I just want to be a family with them. You know, I want us to make things right again. Do you think that would ever be possible?

                        **********************************************************************************

Thomas: We both lost our moms, Caitlin. Not many people can understand what that does to your life. Thank you.

Caitlin: Well, it was kinda different for me. The way I see it, I never really had a mom to lose. Of course, there were always people to take care of me around the house growing up.

Thomas: Nannies. We had them, too.

Caitlin: Actually, my dad would take in people off the streets. People who'd lost their homes in fires and had nowhere else to go. That's who took care of me.

Thomas: Are you serious?

Caitlin: Yeah.

Thomas: Here I was, teasing you about your dad, but it turns out, he's superman.

Caitlin: He's certainly my hero.

Thomas: Wow. I've never met anyone like you, Caitlin. Wait, didn't you say before you had some news.

Caitlin: Oh, well, it was just this woman I know. I thought that, uh, maybe she would have some news to surprise you, but it didn't pan out.

Thomas: That's all right.

Caitlin: I'm sorry, Thomas.

Thomas: You made me feel better just by listening. It's cool to have someone you can share stuff with. Well, uh, I better go. Wait -- see you later.

                        ******************************************************************************************

Phoebe: I know what you were feeling today. We were all thinking it -- if that baby were yours, brooke and hope would be here right now. We'd be a family.

Ridge: Look at you, dr. Phoebe. Trying to draw me out, help me get through things. You remind me so much of your mom.

Phoebe: I do?

Ridge: Yeah. We've been lucky enough to have two very incredible women in our lives, Phoebe -- your mom and Brooke.

Phoebe: Yeah.

Ridge: I not only wanted Brooke here because I love her, I wanted her here for you guys, too.

Phoebe: Don't worry about us.

Ridge: But I do worry. I worry, that's what dads are supposed to do. With Taylor gone, you guys -- you guys are kind of denied having a real family. You just have me, and that -- that's just not enough.

[ Ridge sighs ]

                        *********************************************************************************

Taylor: You have done right by Ridge and my children.

Brooke: I have?

Taylor: Don't be so hard on yourself. The important thing is, you've done the best you could. You have a good heart.

Brooke: I'm trying to live my life as a reflection of you. Your selflessness, your beliefs, your standards.

Taylor: As flattering as that is, I wasn't perfect. No one is.

Brooke: You came pretty close.

Taylor: It's easy to idealize people when they're gone. But you, you need to live your life the best way you know how. You've already taken significant steps. You've sacrificed so much.

Brooke: Including the biggest sacrifice of all -- a life without Ridge.

                        ***************************************************************************************

Phoebe: You're more than enough, dad.

Ridge: But if you had a mom --

Phoebe: Look at me.

Ridge: Yes?

Phoebe: Aren't I a great kid?

Ridge: Yeah, you're the best.

Phoebe: Which means you must be a pretty great dad. The best, in fact.

Ridge: Well, I can't take all the credit. There's so much of Taylor's influence in you three, and Brooke's fun-loving spirit. Makes it all the more difficult, the fact that both of them are gone.

Phoebe: But they're not gone. Brooke is still here. She told us herself, she'll always be a part of our lives. Just in a different way, that's all. And mom's in heaven, watching over us.

Ridge: Like a hawk, I'm sure.

Phoebe: Her spirit is inside each and every one of us -- including you, dad.

Ridge: I see Taylor sometimes when I look at the three of you. And you know what? Especially in your eyes, Phoebe.

Phoebe: I wish. Her eyes were so beautiful.

Ridge: So are yours. But it's more than that. It's the way you take care of us. There's so much of Taylor in you guys. It's amazing to me. I'd give anything to see your mom again. I wish you'd had more time with her.

                        ************************************************************************************

Taylor: This isn't about Ridge. It's about you.

Brooke: I only have one choice now. I have to live my life with honor.

Taylor: Yes, that's part of it.

Brooke: And of course, it's about my children.

Taylor: And my children. Brooke, they think the world of you.

Brooke: I was at the point of my life where I thought I could help them, Thomas and the girls, and bring something good into their lives. And now look at what I've done to them.

Taylor: You have helped them. I've watched them grow up. I've seen their maturity, their kind hearts. There is no doubt that you've had a positive influence on their lives.

Brooke: I just want to be there for them.

Taylor: They wish that, too.

Brooke: How do I do that, and not turn my back on my baby inside of me? He deserves to have a father, too -- to grow up with his father.

Taylor: You'll find a way.

Brooke: It just seems like I'm taking all these steps in the wrong direction.

Taylor: Trust me, you can do no wrong by putting your child's needs first.

Brooke: Well, that much, I'm sure of. But all my resolve seems to go out the window the minute I see Ridge and the kids. I just want to be with them. And this time that I've spent with your children has just meant so much to me.

Taylor: They are hard to leave, aren't they?

Brooke: So to do right by my baby, I have to give up Ridge, and give up your children?

Taylor: Whatever you do, you'll always have a bond with Ridge and those children.

[ Brooke sighs ]

Brooke: I -- I had so much peace when I left the retreat. You know? And I just -- now I don't know what's right anymore. Do you think I will ever be with Ridge again?

                        *********************************************************************************

[ Wind blowing ]

Ridge: There's something about the wind. I feel close to your mom tonight.

Thomas: I was just talking about mom, too.

Phoebe: Why were you talking about her?

Thomas: I was at Caitlin's house, and somehow we got on the subject of mom.

Ridge: I think with everything that's been going on it's only natural that we're kind of thinking about her.

Thomas: I miss her.

Ridge: She always knew what to do, what to say -- where our lives were headed. Me, I don't feel like I know anything anymore.

Phoebe: You're doing everything you possibly can. Just because you're an adult, doesn't mean you have to have all the answers.

                        **********************************************************************************

Taylor: Just don't lose faith.

Brooke: I'm trying not to. But it would help if you gave me some insight.

Taylor: It's your journey, Brooke. Part of life is finding these things out for yourself.

Brooke: So you're not going to tell me.

Taylor: I don't know what path you'll ultimately take. But one I can tell you with certainty is you should trust your instincts.

Brooke: My instincts tell me I should be with Ridge. Or is that just my wishful thinking?

Taylor: In time, it'll all come together the way it should. You are doing the right thing, Brooke. I know you've been through a lot. I know you've suffered. But I promise, it won't be like that forever. Look at you. You've found your self-respect. I'm so proud of you for that.

Brooke: Thank you. That means so much to me, coming from you.

Taylor: If you continue to live your life the way you have, you can continue to be there for everyone. For Nick, and Ridge, my children and yours. As long as you love yourself.

Brooke: Well, I guess that's the secret to life, right?

Taylor: Rather than letting this tragedy destroy you, you've come out stronger than ever. But in the end, it will work out. You'll see.

Brooke: Wait, work out for who? What do you mean?

Taylor: It will work out for you, Brooke.

[ Wind blows ]

[ Brooke sighs ]

                        ***************************************************************************************

Ridge: If only I could hold you, Taylor. Just for a moment. Taylor?

Taylor: Yes, my love. It's me.
