[ Jackie thinking ]

Jackie: Look at them. How happy they are. Oh, how can I tell Nicky this child might not be his?

Nick: Mother, you see this don't you? That's my son. Your grandson.

Jackie: He is beautiful.

Dr. Sobel: -- And healthy.

Brooke: Are you sure?

Dr. Sobel: As I said, the fall caused no visible damage to the fetus or placenta. I'm still waiting on your Chem panels, but I think mother and son are going to be just fine.

Brooke: Oh, thank God.

Thomas: You think things are going to turn around for my family?

Caitlin: Absolutely.

Steffy: What are you? Psychic?

Caitlin: Optimistic.

Thomas: Then maybe we didn't explain the situation right.

Caitlin: No, I understand. I just -- I think that sometimes life can surprise you. Sometimes one day you feel like you've lost everything, and then the next day you can get it all back and more.

Ridge: And what would we talking about?

Phoebe: Caitlin's an optimist.

Ridge: Well that's pretty obvious.

Thomas: She thinks things could get better for us.

Ridge: Really? What makes you say that?

Caitlin: Well, it'd be a shame if they didn't. I mean, you have such a wonderful family. Two beautiful daughters.

Ridge: And one slightly not so handsome son?

Thomas: Dad.

Caitlin: You're a lucky man, Mr. Forrester.

Ridge: Yeah. I've been having a little string of bad luck lately, but --

Caitlin: That could change. I wish I could tell you how. But you'll know when it happens.

Ridge: Hmm. Tell me something. Would this little ray of sunshine have anything to do with my son?

Caitlin: Actually, yeah, it does.

[ Phone rings ]

Ridge: Excuse me. Yeah, Ridge.

Massimo: Ridge, good. I found you.

Ridge: Hey, Massimo.

Massimo: Listen. I'm at the hospital. They just brought Brooke in.

Ridge: Oh, no. The baby?

Massimo: No, no. There's nothing to panic about. She just took a little fall.

Ridge: I was just with her. I mean, she was fine.

Massimo: Well, she's going to be fine. The doctor's doing an ultrasound.

Ridge: Are you at university?

Massimo: Yes, but I don't think you need to come here really.

Ridge: I'm on my way, Massimo. I'll be there soon.

Massimo: No, no, Ridge, look. Dominick is here. You --

[ Beep ] Ridge

Ridge: All right, girls, Thomas -- come on. Let's go. We got to go now.

Thomas: Dad, what's wrong?

Ridge: There's been an accident. Brooke's in the hospital.

Massimo: How's the baby doing?

Jackie: Massimo, come here. Quickly, come here.

Nick: Take a look for yourself.

[ Jackie laughs ]

Massimo: Huh?

Jackie: Say, hello, granddaddy.

Massimo: Oh, god! That's incredible.

Nick: That's my boy.

Jackie: Gorgeous, isn't he?

Massimo: Well, of course he is. He's a Marone.

Brooke: You really don't have to go.

Massimo: Well, maybe we should wait for the doctor.

Jackie: No, no. We can talk to the doctors later. Let's just give Nick and Brooke some time alone.

Massimo: Okay.

Brooke: Nick, we do need to talk.

Nick: Okay.

Brooke: I'm sorry about what happened earlier. But this whole situation has gotten out of control. Every time you and Ridge are together --

Nick: It's not going to happen any more.

Brooke: I know it's not easy for you, either. He's your brother and you don't want to hurt him.

Nick: You know what hurts? Seeing you in this hospital bed. Knowing I'm responsible for it.

Brooke: It was an accident.

Nick: Before this child is born, I'm going to make sure that all this animosity -- all of this confusion is over.

Brooke: You expecting a miracle?

Nick: No, I think we've already got one. Don't we? Nobody planned this trip, Brooke. But this baby's going to take us places we never dreamed of. All of us. Even Forrester. But you gotta open up your sails. That's how you gotta live life. You don't always get to chart your course. But it doesn't mean you can't enjoy the ride.

Brooke: I don't think Ridge would see it that way.

Nick: Well, neither did I until today. Did you see that? That's our son. And there's nothing I wouldn't do for him. I'm going to make sure that boy's happy. I'm going to make sure we're happy, too.

Jackie: Thank you. Thank you for looking after Brooke and my grandchild. At least, I hope he's my grandchild. It'll break Nicky's heart if he isn't. Can't you see how much this baby's changed him? How he's embraced fatherhood. He has a purpose now. He has a purpose that he shares with Brooke. God, please, please, please -- if you're listening. Let this child be Nicky's. It's got to be Nicky's. They'd make good parents. They would be so happy. All they need is an opportunity. Just an opportunity. This baby is a blessing. It's a blessing. The baby brought them together. Nick has to be the father. You couldn't take that away from him. I mean, you wouldn't play a trick like that on him. You wouldn't. So, what am I to do? Oh, god, tell me. What am I do?

Brooke: Okay, Hope. I'll be home later. I love you, sweetheart. Bye.

Ridge: Hey.

Steffy: Hi, how are you?

Brooke: Hi.

Ridge: You up for visitors?

Ridge: We ran into Massimo out in the hallway. He said you're okay.

Brooke: Yeah.

Ridge: What about the baby?

Brooke: We're fine.

Steffy: But you're still in the hospital.

Brooke: It's just a precaution.

Thomas: What happened?

Brooke: I slipped -- on Nick's boat. I guess I'm not as graceful as I used to be.

Phoebe: But you're not hurt?

Brooke: No, I just -- I'm a little sore.

Steffy: If you need any help we can come over and baby-sit.

Thomas: -- Or you and hope can stay with us.

Phoebe: Yeah! That's a great idea. Then you'll have people around all the time.

Steffy: We'll make sure nothing bad happens to you ever again.

Nick: I wondered where you ran off to.

Jackie: Is everything all right?

Nick: Guess your prayers were answered.

Jackie: I'm so happy for you, darling, so happy.

Nick: I was so afraid inside. So afraid.

Jackie: Yeah, I can imagine.

Nick: Now, I know what you felt like when you heard my tanker went down.

Jackie: But you were fine. And your son is fine, and Brooke, too. I'd like to see her before I go home.

Nick: You go ahead. I'll be up in a bit.

Jackie: Okay.

Nick: Hey god, Nick Payne here. Been awhile, huh? Well, you know I'm not the kinda man who asks people for help, but you gave it to me. And I wanna thank you. Not just for protecting Brooke and the baby, but for everything you've given this year. My father -- my family -- and now I have a son. A healthy baby boy. And seeing his face on that monitor -- seeing him -- perfect little guy, tiny little body -- so healthy growing inside of Brooke. It's a part of me. And I don't know what I did to deserve it, but thanks. Thank you.

Ridge: Sorry about that.

Brooke: It's okay, I thought it was sweet.

Ridge: The kids really miss you.

Brooke: I really miss them, too.

Ridge: If you want to take them up on their offer --

Brooke: No, it's all right. I'll be okay.

Ridge: When I got the news from Massimo that you'd had an accident I couldn't seem to get over here quick enough.

Brooke: I'm glad you came.

Ridge: There's nowhere else I'd rather be.

Brooke: Well, it wasn't really serious. Nick and I just wanted to be sure.

Ridge: Where is he?

Brooke: He should be back soon.

Ridge: Look, when the kids get back, we'll, uh -- we'll take off.

Brooke: You don't have to go.

Ridge: No, we do.

Brooke: Ridge --

Ridge: Logan, it just feels wrong -- not being the one to comfort you, having to hear this news from Massimo.

Brooke: Yeah, it's gonna take some time.

Steffy: Look what we found.

Phoebe: The lady in the cafeteria said cookies make everybody feel better, but I think balloons work best.

Brooke. Thank you.

Steffy: You can have the flowers later. I'm gonna take 'em home and put 'em in your room.

Ridge: Why don't you just give 'em to her now? That way she can take them home to her house?

Steffy: You're not staying with us?

Brooke: No, Steffy, I'm not.

Massimo: Dominick. I'm glad I found you.

Nick: Is there something wrong?

Massimo: No, no, no, no -- nothing, nothing. Don't worry.

Nick: Yeah, I'm gonna be a dad. That's part of my job now, remember.

Massimo: Indeed. Indeed it is. I didn't mean to interrupt you, ya know.

Nick: Oh, I said what I came here to say.

Massimo: It's been quite a day, hasn't it? Seeing your son for the first time.

Nick: That's a big one.

Massimo: Yeah, you know the early years are gonna be filled with a lot of firsts. Dominick, I want you to be able to cherish everyone of them.

Nick: Well, if I don't you be there to remind me, okay?

Caitlin: Thank you.

Jackie: Caitlin?

Caitlin: Mrs. Marone! D you hear what happened?

Jackie: What are you doing here?

Caitlin: I was at insomnia with Thomas and his family --

Jackie: You were with Ridge?

Caitlin: Thomas was supposed to give me a ride home, but he's going to drop me off after they're through.

Jackie: They're in there with Brooke?

Caitlin: Yeah, Thomas says she's all right.

Jackie: She is.

Caitlin: And the baby?

Jackie: He's fine.

Caitlin: Did you tell Brooke he might not be Nick's?

Jackie: You didn't --

Caitlin: No. But I wish I could. Thomas and the girls really miss Brooke. It would mean so much to them to have her back. And to find out that this child might be their little brother -- no offense to your son, but after what that family's been through, I'm sure they would be thrilled to get news like that.

Brooke: Steffy, honey, I know this is confusing.

Steffy: You're a grown-up. If you want to come home you can.

Brooke: Sometimes grown-ups have to do what they think is best for other people first.

Thomas: Uncle Nick.

Brooke: No, Thomas. This isn't about Nick.

Phoebe: It's because of the baby.

Ridge: Phoebe, um, we talked about this, remember? Sometimes things happen. You're not always gonna like 'em, but you have to accept them.

Steffy: Like with mom.

Ridge: Brooke is always going to be a part of our lives.

Brooke: Your father's right. You can come visit me and Hope whenever you want.

Technician: Excuse me, I didn't realize your family was here.

Brooke: It's okay.

Technician: Is Dr. Sobel through with the ultrasound?

Brooke: I think so.

Technician: I'll let you see the baby before I unplug it.

Brooke: Thank you. Could you give us a minute?

Technician: Of course.

Thomas: That's Nick's baby.

Brooke: I don't want you to blame your uncle or this baby for what's happening now. I've made my own decision.

Phoebe: I wish he was our little brother. Then we could all be together.

Thomas: We can't Pheebs.

Phoebe: Why not?

Thomas: You'll understand when you're older.

Brooke: Right now, all you need to know is that I love you. All of you, very much. And that's never going to change.

Phoebe: We love you, too, Brooke.

Steffy: We just want you to be happy.
