Nick: Brooke! What happened? What happened?

Brooke: I fell and I hit my back --

Nick: Well, hold on now. Just don't try and get up yet.

 Brooke: No, Iím all right.

 Nick: You sure?

Brooke: I think I just tweaked a muscle or something. I'll be fine.

Nick: What is it? What's the matter? What is it? Is it your stomach?

Brooke: No, it's just a small cramp. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Nick: Why don't we just take a trip to the hospital. Okay?

 Brooke: No, that's not necessary.

Nick: But I think we should. Okay?

 Brooke: I really don't think anything's wrong.

Nick: Can we just let a doctor look at it, please? Let's just be safe. Okay?

 Brooke: Okay.

 Nick: All right.

 Brooke: Yeah.

Nick: Come on. Lean on me. And go slow. All right?

                        *******************************************************************************************

 Caitlin: Thank you.

[ Caitlin remembering ]

 Jackie: How do I tell

Nicky, that this child, who has become the center of his universe might not be his.

Caitlin: The way I see it, it's a win-win situation. Either your son becomes a father. Or Thomas, Ridge and the girls get their family back. Thomas, to have Brooke back in your life, even your sisters will be so thrilled. But I can't get your hopes up until I know for sure.

Caitlin: Hey.

Thomas: Hey. What are you smiling about?

Caitlin: I'm just in a good mood today.

 Thomas: Any particular reason?

 Caitlin: Actually, yeah, but --

 Thomas: But don't ask, right?

 Caitlin: Right.

Thomas: Well, I happen to be awesome at keeping secrets. So, whatever it is, you can tell me. Come on, Caitlin, out with it.

                        ***********************************************************************************

 Jackie: Nicky?

Jackie: Oh, Nicky, if only I didn't have to do this to you.

Massimo: Jacqueline, sweetheart, what're you doing here?

 Jackie: Hello, darling.

Massimo: Well, if you're looking for Dominick, he's not here. As a matter of fact, I saw him leave a little while ago carrying some boxes. Perhaps, he's going to fill them with things to move to the penthouse.

 Jackie: Oh.

Massimo: Oh? Oh? I thought that would make you happy.

Jackie: No, it does. I'm very happy.

Massimo: Well, listen, why don't you stay and join me for lunch? You know, I know what'll do. I'll put on some music on. I'll open a bottle of wine.

Jackie: I can't. I really do have to talk to Nicky about something.

 Massimo: Well, can't it wait?

Jackie: No. No, I have to talk to him. It's about the baby.

                        ******************************************************************************

Nurse: Have a seat up here. I'll get your pressure and the doctor will be with you in a minute.

 Nick: Okay. More pain?

Brooke: Just a couple if twinges.

Nick: Just take it easy. There you go.

 Brooke: Okay.

Dr. Sobel: Hi, I'm Dr. Sobel.

Brooke: Hi, Dr. Sobel. And you must be Brooke.

Nick: I'm Nick Payne. I'm the father of the child.

Dr. Sobel: Mr. Payne. Let's have a look and see what's going on.

Dr. Sobel: You said you fell and hurt your back?

 Brooke: Yes, I was --

Nick: She slipped on the deck of my boat, actually. And she went down pretty hard.

Dr. Sobel: And you experienced some pain in the abdomen?

 Brooke: Well, I --

Nick: It stopped on the way over here, but we still thought it'd be a good idea to bring her in just to play it safe.

Dr. Sobel: How far along are you, Brooke?

Nick: Brooke? He asked you far along you are.

Brooke: I was waiting for you to answer that.

 Nick: It's my first kid.

Dr. Sobel: I never would have known.

Brooke: I'm in the beginning of my second trimester.

Dr. Sobel: Well, your heart rate's fine.

 Brooke: What about the baby's?

Dr. Sobel: We're going to find that out right now.

Dr. Sobel: It's a little weaker than I'd like to be, but that's not necessarily cause for alarm.

Nick: But still, don't want it to be weak, right? That's not a good sign. You want it to be strong. And you want it to be normal.

Brooke: Baby's heartbeats fluctuate all the time.

Dr. Sobel: We'll do an ultrasound just to be sure.

                        *****************************************************************************************

Massimo: Sweetheart, I know that you're excited about the baby, but he's not going to be here for a few months. And by then, you will have taught Dominick everything he has to know about how to take care of a newborn.

Jackie: Massimo, Massimo, it's not about that.

Massimo: Don't tell me you're already checking into preschools?

Jackie: I wish it were that simple.

Massimo: Well, all right then, what is so important that you can't take an hour off and have lunch with your adoring husband?

Jackie: I found something out. Something --

[ cell phone rings ]

Jackie: Let me just turn this off. It's Nicky! Nicky, I have to come and talk to you. Are you on the boat?

Nick: No, actually. That's why I'm calling. I'm at the hospital -- University Hospital.

Jackie: Hospital. Are you all right? Have you been in an accident?

Nick: Mother, hold it, mother, I'm fine. It's Brooke.

 Jackie: Brooke?

Nick: Yeah, she actually slipped on the deck of the boat. I don't know. Something in her back. She might have pulled a muscle, we donít know.

 Jackie: Oh, no.

Massimo: What? Is something wrong? How's the baby?!

Nick: Is that the old man I hear?

Jackie: Yes, Nicky, yes. Nicky, how is the baby?

Nick: So far, he's hanging in there. But they're not for sure yet. They want to do an ultrasound so they can get a better look.

Jackie: They're going to do an ultrasound. Your father and I, we're on our way over.

Nick: No, no, mother, please, that's not why I called.

Jackie: Dominick, no arguments, we're on our way.

                        *********************************************************************************

Thomas: So, you gonna let me know what your good news is?

Caitlin: I said it may be good news. And that's all I can say.

Thomas: I'll get it out of you yet.

Caitlin: You don't quit, do you?

 Thomas: Family trait.

Caitlin: Speaking of family, how's your dad doing?

Thomas: How would you be doing if the baby you wanted more than anything in world turned out to be someone elses?

Caitlin: I bet he wishes he could just erase that from his mind forever.

 Thomas: No chance in that.

Caitlin: He must be feeling pretty helpless, huh?

Thomas: Why all the interest in my dad?

Caitlin: Nothing, I just -- ever since you told me about what happened between him and Brooke, I can't stop thinking about how sad it all is -- especially the part about your sisters having to grow up without a mom.

Thomas: Sorry to bring that stuff up for you.

Caitlin: Actually, it's kind of nice to be able to talk to someone. I can't really do it with my dad.

 Thomas: Too hard for him?

Caitlin: After a while, I just kinda stopped asking about her. But it would be kind of nice to know what she was like. Like, did she have a job or a hobby? Was she practical, creative?

 Thomas: Definitely creative.

 Caitlin: You think so?

Thomas: Well, you didn't get your love for fashion from your dad.

Caitlin: Yeah. Well, what about you? Who are you more like? Your mom or your dad?

Thomas: Oh, let's see -- well, I have my mom's brains and compassion and my dad's good looks and charm.

 Caitlin: And modesty.

[ Thomas laughs ] well, what about your sisters? Who are they more like?

Thomas: That's the funny thing. They're really more like Brooke than anyone. They always have something to say, always in your face, getting on your nerves. But in the end, you just wind up wrapped around their finger.

Caitlin: And that's what happened between you and Brooke?

Thomas: I tried my best to push her away. She never pushed back, though. Just kept the door open until i finally walked through. I even proposed to her.

 Caitlin: You proposed to Brooke?

Thomas: Phoebe, Steffy and I did, for my dad. It really meant a lot to him that we wanted Brooke to be a part of our family. Still do. I just wish there was some way to make that happen.

 Caitlin: Well, maybe there is.

Thomas: What did you mean by that?

 Caitlin: By what?

Thomas: You said there was still a way that Brooke could be part of my family.

Caitlin: I know. I said that there maybe was a way. You know, like anything's possible, so you can't give up. I'm gonna get some more sugar. You want anything?

 Thomas: No, thanks.

 Phoebe: There he is.

Ridge: Hey, sport. Ready to go sailing?

Thomas: No. What are you guys doing here? You're early.

Ridge: Actually, we're right on time.

Thomas: Oh, you are? Uh, must have got distracted.

 Ridge: By what?

 Caitlin: You're Thomas's dad, aren't you?

Ridge: Yes, I am. Ridge Forrester. Who are you?

 Phoebe: Get a clue, dad.

 Steffy: She's Thomas's new girlfriend.

                        *****************************************************************************************

Massimo: Nur -- oh, nurse, excuse me. I'm trying to find out some information on a patient that was just admitted.

Jackie: Brooke Logan. She's got long, blonde hair. She's about four months pregnant.

Nurse: Yes, she's still in with the doctor.

Massimo: Okay, is there any news about the baby? Anything you can tell me? Please, I would appreciate it.

Nurse: We should know something shortly. If you'd take a seat in the lounge, I'll come down and find you.

Massimo: No, no, no, no, no. I would like to see for myself how she is.

Nurse: Are you related to ms. Logan?

 Jackie: We're the baby's grandparents.

Nurse: She's in room 304. Down the hall and to the left.

 Massimo: Thank you.

Brooke: I thought I was having an ultrasound.

 Dr. Sobel: You are.

Brooke: This is like nothing Iíve seen before.

Nick: Isn't this that new technology? You get the 4-d image of the baby?

Dr. Sobel: As a matter of fact, it is.

Brooke: How do you know about that?

Nick: Dad's been doing his homework.

 Brooke: I'm impressed.

Technician: Yeah, the system uses an advanced signal process. It gives us a much clearer view inside the womb.

Dv. Sobel: We'll be able to tell exactly what's going on, if the fetus is moving normally, whether or not there's any abnormal bleeding.

Nick: Abnormal bleeding? Why would you think there would be?

 Dr. Sobel: After a fall like Brooke took, it's a -- it's a possibility.

Nick: Well, let's get this thing started.

Technician: All right, this might be a little cold.

 Jackie: Brooke. Nicky --

Massimo: How is he? How is the baby?

 Nick: We don't know yet.

Jackie: Oh, they're right in the middle of the ultrasound. If

Brooke: Actually, we were just getting under way.

Nick: Oh, doctor, these are my parents -- Jackie and Massimo Marone.

Dr. Sobel: I recognize Mr. Marone. How do you do, sir?

 Massimo: How do you do?

Jackie: Could -- could we stay? See the baby?

Brooke: Yes. Yes, of course. Massimo, could you call Ridge, please, and let him know what's going on?

Jackie: Do you think that's a good idea? I mean, worrying him for what may be no reason?

Brooke: Well, I'm sure he's going to hear that I'm in the hospital. I just want him to know that I'm okay.

Massimo: You're right. He should know.

 Brooke: Thank you.

 Dr. Sobel: Ready, Brooke?

 Brooke: Ready.

Brooke: Don't worry. Everything's going to be okay. Remember, he is a tough kid. After all, he is your son. - I'm ready! - I don't think so.

                        *************************************************************************************

Phoebe: So, you guys are on a date?

Steffy: No wonder you took a shower this morning.

 Thomas: Shut up.

Ridge: Girls, girls, girls, come on.

 Caitlin: I'm Caitlin.

Ridge: How you doin', Caitlin. Good to meet you.

Thomas: These are my mutant sisters, phobic and stuff it.

 Phoebe: Phoebe and Steffy.

Caitlin: I know. I've heard a lot about you.

Steffy: How come we haven't heard about you?

Thomas: She's an intern at Forrester, okay? We bumped into each other a couple times. Now, will you stop buggin' me?

Ridge: An intern, huh? What do you do? Like answer phones and pick up takeout, stuff like that?

Caitlin: Yeah, when I'm not sneaking away to watch your father work. He's incredible. You are, too.

 Ridge: You know my work?

Caitlin: My favorite is "sunset," your neo-romantic gown with gradations of violet.

Ridge: My, my, my, you're quite the expert.

Thomas: Caitlin wants to be a designer.

Caitlin: Practically my whole life. When I was little, I used to dress up my dolls and act like they were showing off my line at some huge fashion show.

Ridge: Me, too. Just kidding, just kidding. No, look, if you -- you know, if you ever want any advice or anything, just let me know.

 Caitlin: Really?

 Ridge: Yeah, any time.

Phoebe: At least that explains why you're hanging around my dork of a brother.

Caitlin: Oh, he's not that bad.

Steffy: You try living with him.

Ridge: Believe it or not, it's not always like this. Of course, they're not going to admit it, but these three actually love each other.

 All: Dad!

Caitlin: Well, it's pretty obvious how Thomas feels about all of you. He was just telling me some of the cool stuff you guys have done together. Like proposing to Brooke.

Ridge: Yeah, we were a happy family.

Caitlin: Something tells me you will be again.

                        *******************************************************************************

 Nick: So, what's the verdict?

 Brooke: How's the baby, doctor?

Dr. Sobel: Everything is exactly as it should be. Your son's heart is nice and strong. I don't anticipate any problems whatsoever.

 Jackie: Oh, thank God.

Dr. Sobel: You can breathe now, Nick. That's one healthy kid you got there, and judging from the ultrasound, handsome, too. He's going to be a real lady-killer.

 Jackie: Like his father.

Brooke: He probably says that to all the parents.

 Dr. Sobel: See for yourself.

Brooke: Oh. Oh, my God, he is cute. Look at that precious little face.

 Jackie: He's beautiful.

Brooke: Look, Nick, that's our baby. Did you see his tiny, little hand? It looked like it was waving at us.

Nick: That's not a wave. I think he's practicing his casting. Just can't wait for me to take him fishing. Hey, pal. How are you, mate? It's your old man, here. God. But it won't be long now. And we'll be in the back of the "shady marlin," catching the prize-winning fish. And we can talk your mom into cooking up a little fish and chips, huh?

Brooke: Are you kidding? I'm going to be out there on the deck with you, catching the biggest fish of all.

Nick: You hear that? We're not going to let the pretty mom catch a bigger one than us, are we?

[ Jackie thinking ]

Jackie: Oh, Nicky, how can I take this away from you? How can I tell you this child may not be yours?

                        **************************************************************************************

Announcer: On the next "bold and the beautiful" --

Nick: Mother, you see this, don't you? My son, your grandson.

Announcer: Nick's dream can be destroyed.

Caitlin: Did you tell Brooke it might not be Nick's?

Jackie: What am I to do?
