Brooke: I can't believe Eric was arrested. How's he doing?

Ridge: He's angry. Frustrated. The police won't see the shooting as just an accident.

Brooke: Is there an update on Deacon's condition?

Ridge: Well, he made it through surgery, and that's all I know.

Brooke: Oh, honey. Why don't you come out to lunch with me? Take your mind off of these things for a little while.

Ridge: I'd love to, but I have a meeting in a few minutes with Jackie.

Brooke: I'll miss you.

Ridge: And that was for what?

Brooke: Ahh, I just want you to know how much I love you. And how grateful I am that we're going through this pregnancy together. We are still going through this together aren't we?

Ridge: Yeah. Do you need to ask that?

Brooke: I was just wondering if all those things that your mother said about me kind of got to you.

Ridge: Logan, I am as committed to you and this little baby as ever. Okay? We're going to raise our kids and live the life we were meant to live and if anybody doesn't like that -- to hell with them.

Brooke: Well, at least I can always tell the kids there were a couple of weeks in there, somewhere, where your mother didn't hate me.

Ridge: Oh, don't worry. She'll come around. Especially after we have this test and she realizes the baby is in fact mine.

Brooke: And that's only a couple of days away.

Ridge: The sooner we can put this behind us the better. That's for sure. You know what, my mother is such a sucker for kids. She's probably back knitting that blanket for you right now.

Samantha: What was Brooke thinking?

Stephanie: She wasn't all those tears and all that grief. She thought Ridge was dead. Boy, that was a riveting performance. And I thought, you know I thought that I saw in that woman's heart, for the first time in my life. And I said to my self, she has feelings that really, really run deep.

Samantha: I'm so sorry. I know how tough this must be on you, and if there's anything that I can do --

Stephanie: Well, Ridge is going to need you. He's going to need help especially if this baby turns out not to be his. He's going to need all the help he can get.

Brooke: You're the last person I expected to see here.

Nick: Hi.

Brooke: Hi. You're moving up in the world or are you just getting tired of chuck's?

Nick: Well, neither actually, I just had a little lunch with my mother today.

Brooke: Oh, I thought she had an appointment with ridge.

Nick: I'm early. You want to sit down?

Brooke: Sure.

Nick: Okay. Well, I haven't really heard anything, so, I just assume you're on speaking terms with Forrester.

Brooke: More than that actually. He forgave me. I don't know what it is you told him that night, but he came home and wanted to put the whole incident behind us.

Nick: Well good. And you have?

Brooke: Yeah, it looks that way. Ridge is looking forward to the baby and we're just anticipating that everything is going to go the way we want it to.

Nick: Well, there's no reason to believe it won't.

Brooke: No. No reason at all.

Ridge: How is my favorite stepmother? Married life treating you okay?

Jackie: Oh, yeah everything I could have hoped for and more.

Ridge: What are you doing here when you could be off on some extravagantly outrageous honeymoon with Massimo, huh? Don't tell me my workaholic father has you back at the salt mines already.

Jackie: No, actually. I'm not here on business.

Ridge: Oh you're not. Why?

Jackie: I'm here to talk to you about the baby that Brooke's having and to find out what you plan to do. If it turns out to be Nick's.

Ridge: Jackie, I canít save you a lot of time here. We don't even need to have this conversation, because Nick is not the baby's father.

Jackie: Really. You know that for sure? Then why are you having a paternity test?

Ridge: To pacify everyone else. See, Brooke and I really want to avoid having to answer all these questions like this. All the time. For the rest of our lives!

Jackie: Seems to me all you're doing is avoiding. You refuse to acknowledge the possibility that Brooke could have conceived the day that she and Nicky made love. It's --

Ridge: But that's not what they did, Jackie. You see, they just ah -- shared some kind of comfort together. Okay. That's all it was.

Jackie: I don't mean to imply that it was anything more or that my son doesn't deeply regret what happened, because he does. But the fact remains, Ridge, Brooke is pregnant and Nick could be responsible for that.

Ridge: Jackie, what is it you want from me?

Jackie: To hear you say that if the child is his, you're prepared to step aside and let him raise it.

Nick: Well, I'm -- really glad everything worked out for you.

Brooke: Not all of it.

Nick: You said that everything seemed to --

Brooke: It'll never be totally right again until you're back in our lives. Mine and Ridge's.

Nick: What are you talking about?

Brooke: Nick, you're his brother. He loves you.

Nick: Oh, please. I pretty much fixed that didn't I?

Brooke: I'll never believe that that connection is over. I Ė I just can't believe that.

Nick: Well then maybe you're kidding yourself. I don't want to do this. Do me a favor, will you. If you see my mother, tell her I came by.

Brooke: Don't. Don't you walk away like this.

Nick: Brooke.

Brooke: I refuse to let it end this way.

Samantha: I'll do whatever I can for Ridge. You know that?

Stephanie: Thank you, Sam. I think he senses that you have his best interests at heart. And always have.

Samantha: Well, it was because of that day that he picked up the football and told me to go long.

[Both laugh] yeah, he won me over right then and there. I mean, he's my friend Felicia's older brother. Cute older brother if remember correctly, you blushed every time he walked into the room other and he picked me for his team.

Stephanie: If

Samantha: Oh, I did not. I did?

Stephanie: Um-hmm. And turned beet red. Just the way you are now. Sam -- you're still in love with him.

Samantha: Well, I -- guess there's no use in trying to deny it. I have tried. That old feeling just comes back. Whenever I spend time with Ridge. Except, now it's --

Stephanie: It's not kid stuff anymore. Well, these things you never know how they're going to turn out. Maybe it could turn into something wonderful.

Samantha: Yeah, it's wonderful, being in love with a married man?

Stephanie: Yes, but he's married to the wrong woman. Again.

Samantha: Well, try telling him that.

Stephanie: Maybe you should.

Samantha: Me?

Stephanie: Well, you've always been honest with one another. If there's one thing that Ridge appreciates it is honesty.

Samantha: You think that I should tell him that he's with the wrong woman?

Stephanie: Why not?

Samantha: Well, because he might never speak to me again.

Stephanie: Well, he might get angry for the moment, but of course he'll speak to you again. He's not going to stay angry. Tell him the truth.

Samantha: I'm going to. Right now.

Stephanie: I wish you luck.

Ridge: Jackie, I can't give you what you want to hear.

Jackie: You mean if the baby is Nicky's you won't let him raise it.

Ridge: I am not going to play a "what if" game. Not unless I have to.

Jackie: Look, I understand it's painful. I really do. But you have to think about it. You owe it to Brooke. You owe it to the baby. You've got to plan for their future. Whatever that is. And you also owe it to your brother.

Ridge: I don't owe him a damn thing. Not after he came on to my wife like he did.

Jackie: Nicky could very well have saved Brooke's life. Can't you at least give him that?

Ridge: Jackie, you'll have to forgive me if I'm not exactly charitable towards him these days.

Jackie: How are you feeling toward the baby? "Charitable?" Because that child deserves to be raised by his biological father.

Ridge: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Are you saying that a child can't be happy and well adjusted unless he is raised by his real dad, huh?

Jackie: No, you know I don't mean that.

Ridge: Good. Because look at me. I couldn't have been luckier to be raised by Eric.

Jackie: You sure that's true? What about all those years you missed with Massimo? You're never going to get those back. You're never going to know what it was like to -- go fishing with him. Go to a ball game. Have his arms around you at night after a bad dream. Both you and Nicky were deprived those memories. Is that what you want for this child? Another Marone generation denied its birthright. Another Marone father without his child.

Ridge: What? Are you asking me to sacrifice my life with Brooke?

Jackie: Isn't that what Nick's done? Stepped a side, given up the woman he loves.

Ridge: Oh, come on, Jackie. He knew he didn't stand a chance with Brooke.

Jackie: Didn't he? My son was prepared to leave everything, his home, his family. All so you could have peace of mind. If it does turn out, ridge, that this child isn't yours. I hope, I pray, that you can be half the man that nick is. And walk away.

Nick: I'm not coming between you and Forrester again.

Brooke: That is not going to happen.

Nick: I'll happen if you push this.

Brooke: Nick, please. Would you sit down. Let's talk.

Nick: I don't want to sit down and I don't want to be here.

Brooke: I am going to see to it that you and Ridge make peace if it's the last thing I do.

Nick: God, you are so incredibly stubborn.

Brooke: I thought that was one thing that you loved about me.

Nick: One of the many things. Now, if you were Forrester, would you forgive me knowing how I feel about you.

Brooke: Well, he knows how I feel. That I'm his. Completely, totally. Nick, we crossed the line and now we have to deal with the consequences. But that doesn't me that we have to pay for the rest of our lives. You have been running for a long time. It's time for you to come home and stay.

[Knock on door]

Ridge: Come in.

Samantha: Hi. Sorry. I just ah -- well, there's something I want to talk to you about, and I'd really appreciate if you'd keep your comments 'til after I finish because what I have to say is not really easy and if I don't say it now I don't think I'll get through it.

Ridge: Go on.

Samantha: I can't.

Samantha: Never mind.

Ridge: Sammy, Sammy, Sammy, come on. Come on now, you know you can tell me anything.

Samantha: Except this.

Ridge: I'm a great listener.

Samantha: Hmm. Nope. Never mind. Just forget I -- forget I came.

Ridge: Really. You sure?

Samantha: Yeah. I'm sure. I'll see you later.

Ridge: Sammy. Look, before you go, would you look through these, take these with you, and see if there's anything that kind of sparks the creativity for you because I'm looking to get kind of a concept for a baby's nursery.

Samantha: Nursery?

Ridge: Yeah. I know it's not your typical assignment, but I figure you of everybody could do the best job possible. Naturally I want the best for my kid.

Samantha: Naturally.

Ridge: Yeah. Maybe you could come up with a black and white theme, or even like a Starscape or --

Samantha: Maybe a nautical motif just in case? I'm sorry. I swore I was going to keep my mouth shut, but how can I pretend that there's nothing wrong when there is?

Ridge: Well that's great. I see mother wasted no time getting the word out there.

Samantha: She's worried about you, Ridge and no wonder. What are you doing? Why are you fooling yourself like this?

Ridge: Sammy, I'm not fooling myself. I'm building a future with my wife and my baby.

Samantha: You deserve better. Look, all right. What if it is your child? What then? There's just going to be another problem and then another one after that. As long as brook is in your life there's always going to be some kind of drama.

Ridge: I love her.

Samantha: And so does nick. And she obviously cares for him.

Ridge: That's over.

Samantha: There must be something between them. Otherwise --

Ridge: Nick took advantage of Brooke! End of story.

Samantha: Ridge, I really wish it were. But this story is just getting started. I'm just afraid you're going to get hurt.

Ridge: Still looking after me, Sammy, huh? Just like you used to?

Samantha: You may've been older, but you weren't always wiser. I know living on the edge is thrilling, but there is a whole world out there waiting for you that's pretty exiting too. And you don't have to go down for the count. It'll still be there when you're ready.

Nick: You know, Brooke, people like me we don't really have -- we don't have a home.

Brooke: Of course you do.

Nick: No. We don't. I tried.

Brooke: Well, maybe this will help.

Nick: It's the compass I gave you.

Brooke: Take it.

Nick: No, no. I gave you that, remember as a wedding present.

Brooke: And I couldn't thank you enough for it, because it guided me. It led me to Ridge. And now maybe it can help you find your way. Back to us.

Nick: It's yours.

Brooke: Nick, please. I want you to have it. Ridge and I, we're going to want you around us. And I know it's not going to be easy. There's a lot of things that were going to have to get past but we will. You'll see. You're the best friend we've ever had.

Jackie: Oh, Nicky -- that's where you belong. With the woman you love and the child you'd adore.
