Nick: So, let me get this straight, now. You walked out because you care?

Brooke: I know it doesn't make much sense.

Nick: No, no. Not at all. It makes perfect sense.

Brooke: You're angry. And you have every right to be, because I let you down. I promised I would be there for you.

Nick: Well, I won't hold you to that.

Brooke: But I want you to. I was disappointed. I thought I could keep what we had separate from all the chaos in my life. But it isn't separate.

Nick: No, it isn't.

Brooke: I ran away because I was scared. I didn't want to face my feelings for you. I just had to tell you that.

Nick: Brooke, you know, as much as you needed something uncomplicated, I so badly wanted to be that for you.

Brooke: I know. I'm sorry. What can I do to make it up to you?

Nick: You already have.

Jackie: I'm sorry, Eric.

Eric: You and Marone? Massimo is Nick's father?

Jackie: I couldn't tell you. I've never told anyone.

Eric: Not even Nick?

Jackie: No. You see, i didn't think that Massimo wanted anything to do with us. And if I had told Nick, it would just have hurt him. I know that after everything that you've been through with Ridge, this must be very difficult to understand.

Eric: Well, I just can't seem to scrape this man off my shoes, can I?

Jackie: It wasn't Massimo's fault.

Eric: Wasn't it?

Ridge: So I heard you sent flowers to Jackie Payne.

Massimo: That's right.

Ridge: How's she doing?

Massimo: Well, she's home from the hospital.

Ridge: Already?

Massimo: Yeah, can you believe it? Dr. Brauer said that she is making a remarkable recovery.

Ridge: Yeah, well, she's a remarkable woman.

Massimo: Yeah, that she is.

Ridge: You still haven't told me the whole story about you two.

Massimo: Well, there really hasn't been enough time. But you know, Ridge, finally after all these years, I think -- I think it's gonna have a happy ending.

Macy: Yeah, is this little guy an artist, or what?

Sally: Oh, the kid's a regular Picasso.

[beeping "1812 overture" ]

Sally: What's that?

Macy: Oh, that's just Deacon's cell phone.

Sally: Should you answer it?

Macy: Oh, it's okay. He's got voice mail. He was in such a hurry leave, I think he forgot it.

Sally: Was he running late?

Macy: No. No, he left early.

Sally: Well, you'd think he'd want to spend as much time as possible with his son.

Macy: Oh, he does. But if he doesn't get Eric home on time, Amber and Rick might not let him see him again. I tell you, they just won't give the guy a break.

Deacon: Hey, buddy. Don't worry about a thing, all right? Daddy's gonna fix this as quick as he can. We'll get you right home, okay?

[Deacon grunting]

Rick: Damn it. I got his voice mail again.

Amber: I told Deacon to leave his cell phone on.

Rick: Yeah, and you also told him to have our son home 30 minutes ago. Where the hell is he?

Ridge: You said you and Jackie were in love?

Massimo: I believe we still are.

Ridge: You never mentioned her.

Massimo: Well, up until a few months ago when she came into this office, I had no idea where she was.

Ridge: And you never knew that nick was your son?

Massimo: No. See, like I said, she thought that I had abandoned her, but I was duped, Ridge. We both were. See, her husband found out about our affair, and he made sure that we never saw each other again. Oh, if I had -- if I had only trusted what we meant to each other.

Ridge: Yeah, well, we've all made mistakes like that, haven't we?

Massimo: Yeah, but now, see, I've got a family now. Two incredible sons. I am so grateful. But I allowed her husband to rob us of a lifetime together, and I am not gonna be completely satisfied until I make it up to her.

Jackie: It wasn't Massimo's fault. It wasn't. My husband, he tricked us. He --

Eric: Did Massimo know you were married?

Jackie: Yes. But -- I was unhappy.

Eric: He took advantage of that.

Jackie: No he didn't.

Eric: Yes he did. Jackie, you were just a girl, and he left you with a baby.

Jackie: He didn't know that I was pregnant.

Eric: He could have found out. He was already a very powerful man. If he had wanted to be a part of your life, he would have been.

Nick: I didn't know if I'd ever see you again.

Brooke: I'm not going anywhere.

Nick: Good. You know, one day, I'm gonna learn to listen to my mother.

Brooke: You talked to your mother about me?

Nick: Yeah, you've got a big fan there.

Brooke: I like her, too.

Nick: Well, I got that going for me. I understand that you and Ridge's mother aren't exactly chummy.

Brooke: Not exactly.

Nick: Whereas you and my mom have a lot in common. That's a compliment.

Brooke: Thank you. Most men only talk about their mothers when they're thinking of proposing.

Nick: I am. I propose we completely forget about the last 24 hours. What do you say?

Brooke: Deal.

Amber: I am sure he'll be here any minute.

Rick: You know, what's his -- what's his address? I'm going over there.

Amber: I don't get it. He swore he'd bring Eric home on time.

Rick: Yeah, well, you know what? Time's up. And I want my son back -- now.

[Doorbell rings] Rick: What the hell happened?

Deacon: I'm sorry. We had a flat tire.

Rick: Right.

Deacon: What, yeah, we had a flat tire, Rick.

Rick: Then why didn't you call us?

Deacon: You're right, I'm sorry. I forgot my cell phone.

Amber: You know what, sweetie? You know what? Why don't you go get some cookies in the kitchen? I think Marta just made some. You know, we let you take Eric 'cause we thought we could trust you.

Rick: Which was obviously a mistake. One that we won't be making ever again.

Macy: Your daddy loves you so much.

Deacon: Okay, guys, come on. Please. I'm sorry. I know I was late.

Amber: Do you have any idea how worried we were?

Deacon: Amber, I had a flat tire. What did you want me to do?

Amber: Deacon, deacon, I told Rick that you wouldn't let us down, okay? We made the rules very clear to you.

Deacon: I didn't break the rules. My car broke down. I would have had him back on time.

Amber: But you didn't.

Deacon: Come on, it was 20 minutes.

Rick: 30 minutes, Deacon.

Deacon: You know, Rick, I get the feeling it wouldn't have mattered if it was two minutes. That somehow you two would have found some way --

Rick: Whoa, whoa, don't pin this on us, okay? We gave you a chance, Deacon, and you blew it.

Deacon: I had such a nice time with him today.

Amber: I'm sorry, but I told you what would happen.

Deacon: He's my son.

Rick: And we're his parents. And it's our job to decide what's good for him. And obviously, you're not.

Deacon: He's fine! Come on!

Rick: Yeah, and he's gonna stay that way, Deacon, because you're gonna stay out of his life.

Deacon: Rick, he's my son, and there is no way that you're gonna keep me away from him.

Rick: Is that a threat?

Deacon: You know what, Rick? That's a promise. So I suggest you get ready. Because it's one I intend on keeping.

Ridge: You don't really believe that Jackie holds you responsible for all the time you missed.

Massimo: But, see, I think I am.

Ridge: But you didn't know, Massimo.

Massimo: I should have. I let it happen, Ridge. I let my family just slip through my fingers.

Ridge: Come on, no you didn't.

Massimo: My sons grew up without me. I don't want that to happen again. And there's something else. I don't want it to happen to my grandchildren, either.

Ridge: Where's that coming from?

Massimo: They need to know that I am their grandfather, ridge.

Ridge: Massimo, you gotta know that they already love you.

Massimo: But, you see, I'm trying to keep my family together. I want to get them together. I don't want to miss anything else. Whether you call them Forresters or Marones doesn't matter. I just want them to know who I am.

Ridge: I want that, too. But I think you have to realize that this is gonna be difficult for them.

Massimo: I don't want to take anything away from them. Or from Eric. All I'm asking you to do is to tell them the truth. Before they hear it from someone else.

Jackie: Eric, you're wrong about Massimo. He wants a family more than anything in this world.

Eric: I'm sorry, Jackie, I'm sorry. I don't mean to upset you.

Jackie: It's how you feel.

Eric: It's how I feel about you. Jackie -- look at you. You are this extraordinary woman. You're beautiful and you -- you've raised your son all by yourself in this world, and you wanted him to have a father.

Jackie: Massimo wanted to be one.

Eric: Yeah, and now he gets that opportunity. It's not all he wants.

Jackie: Eric --

Eric: Jackie, I know him. I daresay I know him better than you. Marone is a manipulator, and if he senses any -- any vulnerability in you at all, he will exploit it.

Jackie: But to what end?

Eric: To get -- to get the one thing he's wanted more than anything in the world -- a family. A family he hasn't earned. You don't have to settle for that, Jackie Payne. You can do so much better than that.

Brooke: I'll almost hate to see it go.

Nick: What's that?

Brooke: Your boat. The "shady marlin." Now that you're a Marone, her days are numbered, huh?

Nick: I don't think so.

Brooke: You wouldn't rather trade out for something newer, something better?

Nick: I'm not that kind of guy. I get very attached.

Brooke: Well, you haven't had her that long.

Nick: I recognize quality when I see it. She can be a little temperamental and stubborn, but she always seems to come through in the end. And she's got an engine that just purrs like a kitten. A hull that's as sleek as they come. It's a good fit. When something feels right in life, you just don't get rid of it. I'm gonna have this baby for a long time.

Macy: Deacon, you're back. Your cell phone's been ringing. What's wrong?

Deacon: Um, them. That's what's wrong.

Macy: Who?

Deacon: Amber -- Amber and that sod-off little punk, Rick. I'm 20 minutes late and now I can't see my son!

Macy: You were late?

Deacon: I had a flat tire.

Macy: Well, they can't hold that against you.

Deacon: You know what? You're right. You are absolutely right.

Macy: Wait, what are you doing?

Deacon: I'm doing something I should have done a long time ago -- I'm calling a lawyer. I'm done.

Macy: Wait.

Deacon: I'm done.

Macy: Wait.

Deacon: No, I'm done playing by their rules.

Macy: Just wait a minute, all right.

Deacon: Macy, they can't keep me from seeing my kids.

Macy: If we're gonna do this, we're gonna do it right. Okay, we'll get the best. I know somebody who can give us a referral.

Deacon: Good, because if they want a fight, we're gonna give them a fight.

Macy: You're damn right we will.

Jackie: That was lovely.

Eric: That was lovely. I, um -- I'm very attracted to you.

Jackie: I find that a very appealing quality in a man.

Nick: You should probably get back to the office.

Brooke: Yeah, I should.

Nick: Yeah, you should.

Brooke: It's just that-- when somebody kisses me like that --

Nick: Yeah. Let's try to do this right, huh? You know, Brooke, my whole life has been some journey. And, honey, you're around the world and back again. And I don't want to miss one stop along the way. So -- you up for the ride?

Brooke: Aye, aye, captain.
