Nick: Excuse me? What did you just tell me?

Massimo: The truth, Dominick. The truth. You're my son. That's the reason your mother gave you that ring. She didn't -- she didn't buy it in a pawn shop. I left it by accident the night that your mother and I -- Dominick, we were involved -- in spite of the fact that she was married. And --

[massimo sighs] -- she got pregnant. My child. He was not your father, Dominick. I am.

Dr. Brauer: I'm sorry I don't have better news for you.

Bridget: So am I. Thank you, Dr. Brauer.

Brooke: Bridget, hi.

Bridget: Mom.

Brooke: How's Jackie?

Bridget: She still hasn't come to.

Brooke: I told Nick I'd call him and tell him what's going on here, but --

Bridget: Did you speak to him?

Brooke: I saw him taking off on his boat. The thought of losing his mother was just too much for him. I don't know what he's gonna do if Jackie doesn't pull through. She's the only real connection that he has. Would it be all right if -- could I see her?

Bridget: I'm not supposed to do this, but she's in room 304. Just go around the corner and down the hall, mom.

Brooke: Honey, thanks.

Bridget: You're welcome.

Ridge: Hey there.

Bridget: Ridge.

[Monitor beeping]

Brooke: Jackie? Jackie, it's Brooke Logan. I promised your son I'd look in on you. He'd be here himself, but then you know your son. Risks his life to save his crew members, but when it comes to seeing his mother in a hospital bed -- god, he loves you so much. You're so lucky to have each other. I promised him that I would be there for him. And I will. But I'm not the one he needs right now. He needs you, his mother. Hang in there, Jackie. You're all the family he's got.

Nick: What kind of game are you playing here, Marone?

Massimo: Think about it. Think about it. Dominick, why would I want to make this up?

Nick: I don't know. Maybe you like collecting kids. Instant family. First Forrester, now me. Go build your Marone dynasty with somebody else. I ain't buying it.

Bridget: What are you doing here?

Ridge: Looking for your mom. She said she was coming to visit Jackie Payne.

Bridget: Oh, yeah. She's in there with her now.

Ridge: Yeah. I was hoping to catch her before she went in.

Bridget: Is it important? Because I --

Ridge: No, no, no. Don't pull her out of there. She's on a mission of mercy for Nick Payne.

Bridget: Huh.

Ridge: What? Is that the "am I jealous" look? Not that I have a right to be, you know?

Bridget: I think you have every right to be.

Ridge: I don't know. I can't really blame her for getting involved with someone else, can I?

Bridget: Oh, Ridge, let's be honest. I don't think she's really involved. I think this is just another one of her vacations from you.

Ridge: Well, I'm not so sure of that anymore.

Bridget: Well, if there is something to this, what are you gonna do?

Ridge: The only thing I can do. Fight like hell to get her back.

Brooke: I've only known you and your son a short time, but it's felt so good. He's pretty amazing. And you're proud of him. I know you are. I'll bet his dad would have been proud of him, too. It's too bad that nick had so little time with him. Jackie? Jackie, can you hear me? Oh, my god. Jackie? Jackie, wake up. Wake up.

Massimo: That ring belongs to you. It's -- it's your birthright.

Nick: It's funny, a couple of months ago, you accused me of stealing it.

Massimo: Because I didn't know who you were to me then.

Nick: If I was your kid, I think my mother would've told me.

Massimo: She didn't even tell me until tonight. Dominick, my god, I left Seattle, I didn't even know she was pregnant.

Nick: My mother didn't have affairs, Marone.

Massimo: Dominick, listen to me, please. What Jacqueline and I had was not an affair. I loved her. I loved your mother, and she loved me.

Nick: She loved my father.

Massimo: She tried. God, did she try. But he didn't make it easy. He was not a good man, Dominick.

Nick: You don't know what you're talking about! They had a great marriage!

Massimo: Because that's what she wanted you to believe.

Nick: You son of a --

Massimo: Easy, easy. Okay? She did not want to hurt you, Dominick. She didn't want you growing up, hating the man that you thought gave you life.

Nick: Hating him? He was a decent, good, hard-working man.

Massimo: No, he was not. He was a drunk. A drunk and a coward.

Nick: Take it back.

Massimo: Take it easy.

Nick: Take it back!

Massimo: Take it easy! Take it easy. Come on, I'm sorry. Easy. Easy. The truth is -- I never met him in person. I only had one conversation with him, and that was on the telephone -- a conversation that I will regret for the rest of my life. He found out about Jacqueline and me. And he asked for money to keep the whole thing quiet.

Nick: Blackmail?

Massimo: Mm-hmm. I wired him $100,000.

Nick: You're good, Marone. I gotta hand it to you. Next thing you're gonna tell me, you spent the week in the belly of a whale.

Massimo: I have copies of the transaction, Dominick. And, you know, I'll show them to you if you want to see them. A transfer of funds from my bank to Payne with signatures -- notarized, of course.

Nick: All could have been very easily manufactured. But for argument's sake, let's just say that you did pay my old man off. Was your reputation so important to you that you could turn your back and walk away from the woman that supposedly meant everything to you?

Massimo: I didn't give a damn about my reputation.

Nick: Then why leave?

Massimo: Because your father told me that your mother didn't want to have anything to do with me, that she was ready to make her marriage work. You have no idea -- none -- how it killed me to turn my back on her. Because I thought that's what she wanted.

Nick: Thought?

Massimo: Yes. Because she wanted us to be together. She had no intention of staying with Payne. After we found each other, she didn't even know that he made that phone call! I didn't find out any of this, Dominick, until tonight.

[Massimo sighs] all these years -- all these years, she thought I left her without so much as a backward glance. She was waiting for me to come back one day -- at least a phone call. And there I was, hundreds of miles away, aching for her -- wishing that i had never agreed to Payne's demand, wishing that I had fought for her. I didn't give a damn about her marriage! She belonged to me! Me! I left her with a child -- my child. Maybe now --

[massimo chuckles] now you understand why you and I are so much alike -- our tempers. Our love of adventure. Our love of the sea.

Nick: The only one that ever talked about the sea was my mother.

Massimo: Yes, because she told you about it, hour on end.

Nick: And you -- she talked about you.

Massimo: In her own way, Dominick, she wanted you to know me, to know your real father.

Nick: My father?

Massimo: Yeah.

Nick: My father.

Nick: There were no pictures while I was growing up -- of him. I remember mom said it was too hard, it just -- it just brought back too many memories.

Massimo: And you, of course, thought they were all good ones, right?

Nick: I'd try to get her to talk about him, but -- she never would. So I just -- I finally stopped. And when I was, I'd say 10 or 11, I really had no memory of him. But -- you were always so much more real than he was. You know, mom and I used to go down to the harbor on the weekends and -- we just stood there for hours watching tankers and steamers coming and going, hoping to see one of yours. And one day I ship came in with "Marone" on the side of it. I'll never -- forget the feeling that I had. It was a feeling of pride.

Massimo: Pride?

Nick: I kept a scrapbook. Actually, mom kept it. And I used to pore over articles and any mention of you. How you'd traveled the sea and stop at every port around the world. You were a great man to me.

Massimo: A life so complete and yet so empty at the same time.

Nick: Well, I guess that's something else that we have in common.

Massimo: We've both been searching for something for a long time now, haven't we?

Nick: I just never knew what I was looking for. You really are my father, aren't you?

Massimo: Yes. Yes, my son. And I'll never, never leave you again.

Bridget: For what it's worth, I hope mom doesn't keep you waiting for too long.

Ridge: Thanks. That means a lot to me.

Bridget: I'm gonna get back to work.

Ridge: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Come here. Just have a seat for a second. I haven't seen you in so long. Tell me what's been going on. What -- what have you been doing?

Bridget: Working. Studying. You know, the usual.

Ridge: Yeah. Well, I'll let the kids know. They've been asking about you a lot.

Bridget: Yeah. I'm sorry I haven't been by to see them. I just -- I think, right now, it's better for me to just keep my distance. You and mom have enough to get past. I don't want her getting the wrong idea here.

Ridge: You are still quite an amazing woman, Bridget Forrester.

Bridget: I try. Ridge, you know, I swear, I look back on the last few months, I can barely even recognize myself. I mean, I don't know whether to be embarrassed or ashamed.

Ridge: Hey, hey, hey, hey. How about forgiveness?

Bridget: Just be happy -- you and the kids and mom.

Ridge: I'm working on it.

Nick: I don't want to let go.

Massimo: You'll never have to again.

Nick: Mom should be here for this, huh?

Massimo: She's gonna pull through.

Nick: Yeah.

Massimo: Listen -- what if I told you that I'm just as scared as you are?

[Phone rings]

Nick: Yeah.

Brooke: Nick, it's Brooke.

Nick: What's going on there?

Brooke: Well, I'm not sure. The doctor's in with your mom right now. But her eyes did start fluttering like she was trying to open them.

Brook: Nick?

Nick: Yeah, I'm here.

Brooke: I think she's coming around.

Nick: Really?

Brooke: Yes.

Nick: I'll get there as soon as I can, then. And -- thanks. She's coming around. She's gonna make it.

Massimo: Oh, thank god. Thank the good lord. We can be a family now. Dominick, all our years of searching are over, finally.
