Bridget: No, you're right. I mean, it's fascinating research and a terrific opportunity.

Dr. Brauer: For someone whose interests lie in that direction. But you're not going to spend your career in a lab. You want to work with people. That's why you chose medicine in the first place.

Nurse: Dr. Maclaine, I need you.

Dr. Brauer: Remember that.

Nurse: They're bringing in Massimo Marone.

Mark: What happened?

Nurse: His jet crash landed. Oh, Dr. Brauer, he's asking for you.

Mark: So, he's conscious?

Nurse: Yes, but the other passenger's not. Severe head injury, suspected internal bleeding. And there's a pilot.

Dr. Brauer: And what's the E.T.A.?

Nurse: Two minutes.

Mark: All right, we're gonna need Dawson and Terrill.

Dr. Brauer: I'll get radiology on standby.

Nurse: How many trauma patients?

[Knocking at door]

Deacon: Hey.

Macy: Hi.

Deacon: I'm sorry. I got a little rushed.

Macy: Well, take your time.

Deacon: Okay. Hey, there's some pictures of hope's visit on the bed there if you want to check them out.

Macy: Yeah. That was fast.

Deacon: I couldn't wait. I had to -- I had to pay extra to get 'em.

Macy: Oh.

Deacon: What?

Macy: That's great.

[Macy laughs]

Deacon: Yeah. That's great, huh?

Macy: I didn't even know you took this one.

Deacon: You got lost in those baby blues -- Hope's. There's another one in there where it looks like she's punching me in the nose. It's hilarious.

Macy: So, how did it go when you dropped her off?

Deacon: There was no problems. You know, it was cool.

Macy: Really?

Deacon: Brooke checked hope out head to toe to make sure that I didn't have the kid tattooed. I don't know, I --Ithink Brooke was genuinely scared the entire time that she was gone.

Macy: I just wish she could see you interact with Hope.

Deacon: Oh, I don't think that's gonna happen. Brooke doesn't want me around long enough that -- I think it just conjures up too many memories about what happened.

Macy: Oh, great. So because she's embarrassed, you and Hope have to suffer?

Deacon: Well -- not anymore. Thanks to you.

Macy: Me?

Deacon: Macy, you gave me a kick in the ass that I've needed for a long time now. I mean, because of you, my kids are gonna get to know their daddy. Thank you.

Eric: She's not here.

Nick: Huh. That's unusual. You find my mother to be a busy type person?

Eric: Busy? Yeah, she's always busy. You're right.

Nick: Workaholic like?

Eric: You think?

Nick: Yeah. When I was growing up, that's how it was -- work, work, busy, busy, busy.

Eric: And where were you?

Nick: Oh, she kept me pretty occupied, actually.

Eric: Mm-hmm. Smart girl.

Nick: Mm-hmm. I was a boy scout, you know?

Eric: You were?

Nick: Yeah. I had to start my own troop. So, I went to a buddy of mine and asked his older brother if he'd run it for me. And he wound up being stoned half the time and never showed up. So I was gonna lose my space, and guess who filled in? My mom.

Eric: No.

Nick: It was mortifying. Now just try to imagine being that age, boy scouts and your mother running the troop.

Eric: No, this isn't good.

Nick: So, we started out with four guys. And after a month, we had 24. Because everybody loved Mrs. Payne.

Eric: Yeah. No surprise.

[Eric chuckles] I'm trying to imagine her gutting fish on an overnight camping trip.

Nick: Oh, please, that part was terrible. Terrible. Nut?

Eric: No, I had plenty.

Nick: She tried to help me on my pinewood derby. I'll tell ya, this was -- well, it was a fiasco. You know, the superglue. She -- she wound up super gluing her hands together. Now just try and picture going to the emergency room. She's got her foot on the gas. I'm leaning over her trying to steer because she won't touch the wheel because she's afraid that her fingers are gonna stick to it.

Eric: Sure.

Nick: She was there for me.

Eric: I know the feeling. Well, look, I'm gonna turn in. You're welcome to wait for her here, if you like.

Nick: Yeah, I'd like that, if you don't mind.

Eric: It's okay. Oh -- thanks for the beer, Nick. And the next time we play pool, it's your butt.

Nick: How do you like that? Now I'm waiting up for my mom.

Mark: Mr. Marone, it's Dr. Maclaine. What do we have here?

Emt: Leg injury. Patient's in a lot of pain.

Massimo: Forget about me, okay? Forget it. Just take care of her.

Mark: All right, all right. Get him into one now. What do we have?

Emt #2: She's got a blood pressure of 80/50. Pulse of 120. Pulse ox of 95%. Got a rigid abdomen with guarding, extensive bruising.

Mark: What do you have running?

Emt #2: I've got a bolus of complete normal saline here. And no improvement to her blood pressure.

Mark: All right. Let's get a second line, 14-gauge needle, one liter lr, 100% oxygen by nonrebreather. And call blood bank down here now.

Dr. Brauer: Jacqueline.

Massimo: Jacqueline.

Dr. Brauer: Jacqueline, can you hear me? It's Dr. Brauer. Can you hear me? Did she wake up at all?

Emt #2: No. Gcs of 9. She opens her eyes to pain, inappropriate words, withdraws from painful stimulus. She was knocked out during the accident, has been unconscious the whole time. But her pupils are pearl.

Jackie: Nicky.

Dr. Brauer: Nicky? Who's Nicky?

Bridget: That's her son.

Dr. Brauer: Okay, let's get her to O.R. Let's go, quickly.

Bridget: Are you okay? How are you?

Massimo: I'm fine. I'm fine.

Macy: I -- I love this one right here.

Deacon: My kids are the best thing that ever happened to me. They're the most decent thing that I've ever done. And I almost walked away from them.

Macy: But you didn't. So -- when do you get to see them again?

Deacon: Soon as I can. Hey, you know, the circus is coming to town. I'm gonna take little d to it.

Macy: He'll love that.

Deacon: Yeah. And we were both kind of wondering if maybe you'd like to go with us.

Macy: Oh, you know, the circus really isn't -- isn't my thing.

Deacon: Go to the park. We could -- we could go swimming. Do you have a pool at your place? I'm sorry. I -- I didn't mean to be pushy.

Macy: No, no, no. It's not that. It's -- I don't know how to put this but -- I mean, Hope is beautiful. She's -- she's really an angel.

Macy: But baby-sitting's getting a little old?

Macy: No. No, it's not that. It's just -- I just didn't realize how I was gonna feel holding a baby after --

Deacon: After your surgery, Macy. I'm sorry. I feel like --

Macy: No, don't. Don't apologize.

Deacon: I should have known.

Macy: I didn't know, you know? And Hope's back in your life. I'm -- I'm so happy for you. And if I played a small part in that --

Deacon: Hey, look, she's back in my life because of you.

Macy: I'm glad. I'm glad I could help. But maybe you should just take it from here, you know?

Deacon: Yeah, yeah. Definitely. I mean, I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable, Macy. That's not how I want to thank you for everything you've done for me.

Macy: Well, you could bring me some cotton candy from the circus.

Deacon: You got it. I think we better -- we better go if we're gonna meet the realtor.

Macy: Yeah.

[Knocking at door]

Deacon: Who's there?

Brooke: Brooke.

Macy: She shouldn't know that I'm --

Deacon: Go in there. Just go.

Brooke: Can I come in?

Deacon: Sure.

Bridget: Massimo, I can't believe your jet crashed.

Massimo: We had a hard -- hard landing. But -- I don't think the co-pilot made it.

Bridget: What happened? Do you know?

Massimo: It was mechanical. The -- the -- landing gear wouldn't deploy. My god, Jackie could die.

Bridget: No, no. Listen to me. Dr. Brauer is the best. She -- they got her here fast. They're operating on her right now. Okay?

Massimo: Oh, god. I just found her.

Bridget: Did you call nick?

Massimo: What?

Bridget: Massimo, does Nick know?

Massimo: Nick know yet? I don't think he knows.

Bridget: Okay. I have to call him.

Massimo: If I killed his mother --

Bridget: You didn't. You didn't. Listen to me -- but he has to know, okay? So I have to call him.

Massimo: Okay.

Bridget: Just hang on. I'll be right back. Mark? Mark, do me a favor. Check on him again. I think he's out of it.

Mark: It's the shock. But, yeah, absolutely, I will.

Bridget: Okay. Thank you.

[Phone rings]

Nick: Payne.

Bridget: Nick, hi, it's Bridget Forrester.

Nick: Oh, hello, Bridget. Pleasant surprise. What's on your mind?

Bridget: I'm at university hospital.

Nick: The hospital? You all right?

Bridget: Yeah, I'm working. Listen, Nick, your mother is here. They just brought her in.

Nick: My mother?

Bridget: Yeah. She was -- she was on a plane. And they had to make some kind of emergency landing.

Nick: She's okay, right?

Bridget: She's in surgery. We don't really know a whole lot more. I think you should come down. Nick?

Dr. Brauer: Suction.

Nurse: Coming, doctor.

Dr. Brauer: Now, Jennifer. If I'm gonna save the spleen, I've gotta be able to see it.

Nurse: Sorry, dr. Brauer.

Dr. Brauer: Okay, peter, rotate it gently.

Assistant: Another fracture.

Dr. Brauer: What's her B.P.?

Nurse: Systolic's dropping. 75.

Dr. Brauer: It's -- it's gotta come out. Damn it. Okay, suction. Sponge. Rake. Sponge, please. Peter, rotate it. Scalpel.

Deacon: How's Hope?

Brooke: Oh, she's fine.

Deacon: So what do you want, Brooke? You sure as hell didn't come all the way down here to see how I was doing.

Brooke: I can't believe you'd bring her here, Deacon.

Deacon: I didn't bring her here. I took her to a friend's place -- a really nice place.

Brooke: You don't have any friends.

Deacon: Yeah, well, I'm working on that one. I've been working on a lot of things, Brooke.

Brooke: Look, I know you're trying to get your life back on track.

Deacon: The way you say that --

Brooke: What?

Deacon: It's like -- like you don't have an ounce of faith in me whatsoever.

Brooke: Because I never know what to expect from you. And as far as my daughter's concerned --

Deacon: Our daughter.

Brooke: I was a nervous wreck the whole time she was away.

Deacon: I know. I know. But, Brooke, she was fine. You know, I understand it's gonna take a little time. But once you get used to it, you're going--

Brooke: No, I am not going to get use to this. It's not going to happen again, Deacon. No more visits.

Massimo: We should've heard something by now, for god's -- what the hell is going on, huh? Why aren't they getting back to us?

Bridget: Massimo, nobody's keeping anything from you. Okay? They're working very hard to save her life.

Massimo: You don't understand. She's -- she's the mother of --

Bridget: I know, I know. She's Nick's mother. And I can see she means a lot to you. How long has this been going on?

Nick: Where is she?

Bridget: She's still in surgery.

Nick: What did they say?

Bridget: Not a lot, Nick. She ruptured her spleen.

Nick: What the hell are you doing here?

Massimo: Dominick, I --

Bridget: It was his jet that went down.

Nick: Your jet? What was my mother doing on the Marone jet?

Massimo: She -- she -- she didn't tell you?

Nick: Tell me what? What the hell is going on here?

Bridget: Dr. Brauer, you remember Captain Payne.

Nick: Where's my mother?

Dr. Brauer: She's in recovery.

Massimo: Oh, good, good, good. Then you saved her.

Dr. Brauer: I'm very hopeful. We were able to staunch the blood loss by removing her spleen. She seems to have stabilized. But she was hypotensive for a prolonged period of time.

Nick: You're worried about organ failure?

Dr. Brauer: We're going to have to keep a very close eye on her for the next couple of days. And I do have some concerns about her brain function.

Nick: Brain function?

Dr. Brauer: She's been unconsciousness since the crash. She was able to mumble a few words.

Bridget: Your name.

Dr. Brauer: I'm going to have her taken down to radiology for a cat scan now.

Nick: I'd like to see her first, if I could.

Dr. Brauer: She's in room three.

Bridget: This is so sad. I don't even think he had any other family.

Massimo: But you do. You do -- my son.

Deacon: Wait a second. I'm completely confused here. Where is this coming from? The visit went fine.

Brooke: For you maybe.

Deacon: No, for Hope, also. Brooke, come on, we agreed on this. Our little girl and what she needs is what's most important.

Brooke: Hope has everything she needs.

Deacon: No, she's doesn't, Brooke. She doesn't have her father.

Brooke: Deacon, why is this suddenly so important to you?

Deacon: This has been important to me. You're the one that kept me away. And I respected it, didn't I? Or at least I tried to. Hell, I even stopped seeing little d, which was a huge mistake.

Brooke: No, it wasn't. You made a sacrifice for those children, and they're much better off for it! Look, I am not doing this to hurt you. And I wish I didn't have to say these things. But I would do anything for hope. She's the most important thing in my life. And I will do anything I have to do to protect her.

Deacon: Protect her from me?

Brooke: From anybody who poses as a threat.

Deacon: Brooke, I'm not a threat!

Brooke: You may not think you are, deacon, but you are. Now, I've been taking really good care of her.

Deacon: I know. I know you have. I know, but --

Brooke: Then leave well enough alone!

Deacon: It's well enough! Don't you get it?! It's not well enough for me!

Brooke: You know what? This isn't even about you. And the fact that you're saying that proves that you're not even ready for this.

Deacon: Oh, I see. So let me get this straight! You're gonna be the one who tells me when I am ready?!

Brooke: Don't fight me on this, Deacon.

Deacon: Or what?!

Brooke: I hope you care enough about your daughter to not even put her through this.

Macy: I can't believe her. Who the hell does she think she is?!

Deacon: She's the mother. And -- and she can do that. She can keep me from seeing my kids.

Macy: No. No, she can't. You have rights, Deacon.

Deacon: Macy, I would have to fight her for them. And then what am I doing to my kids?

Macy: Okay. Now, don't let her do this. Okay? You're not the one making this ugly. You're not the one thinking only of yourself. She is.

Deacon: Everything she says about me, she can say to them.

Macy: Well, then she's a terrible mother. And she'd do that anyway. The only way your kids are gonna know differently is if they know you. Now you're gonna keep fighting for them, aren't you?

Deacon: Oh, yeah.

[Monitor beeping]

Nick: Well, look at you.

[Monitor beeping]

Nick: I shaved. Feel it? I just can't wait for you to open your eyes and see for yourself. It's just so wrong. I'm the one who does the crazy things, not you. Flying around in private jets and -- you must've been so scared. Well, you don't have to be afraid anymore, 'cause I'm here. You're safe. And I'm not going anywhere. No more -- crazy trips to god knows where and running from god knows what. Finally get what you want -- more time together. And I want it, too. So don't you go anywhere! [ Nick crying] 'cause you're all I've got. You're all I've got.
