Thorne: Understand? You think my wife will just "understand" that I got her best friend pregnant?
Darla: On that one horrible night when you thought that she was never coming back. Thorne, look -- I will take full responsibility for this if you think it's gonna help.
Thorne: You don't want Macy to look at you so betrayed that she can't even breathe, Darla. No. No! I can't put her through this again. And you promised that you would keep the secret.
Darla: And I will. Then I'm keeping the baby, too.
Thorne: You're trying to force my hand.
Darla: I'm not trying to force you hand. I'm trying to protect this child. Our child, Thorne. I'm not gonna let him grow up in a household filled with lies.
Thorne: Oh, now you're just being melodramatic.
Darla: Does she know where you are right now? How many lies have you told her already, Thorne? Don't you understand that this is just gonna build and build until it destroys your marriage? You realize that, don't you?
Macy: You haven't said anything to Darla about this idea, have you?
Sally: What? You mean the idea about you adopting her baby? No, I haven't.
Macy: Are you sure?
Sally: Come on. You think I wouldn't remember having that conversation?
Macy: I'm sorry. I just -- I get the feeling that she's uncomfortable around me lately.
Sally: Well, darling, that's understandable, isn't it? You've just had a hysterectomy. You won't be able to have children. Darla knows how desperately you wanted to have a baby. All right? And here she is, suddenly and unexpectedly pregnant herself. It must seem like some kind of a cruel twist of fate to her. Whereas some of us prefer to think of is as some divine providence.
Macy: Yeah, I mean, yeah, I didn't think about that, but -- if she's not ready to raise a child --
sally: Believe me, she's not, Macy. And you are.
Macy: This really could be the answer.
Sally: Definitely. And you said that Thorne is open to the idea of adoption.
Macy: He's more than open to it. We've talked about it. He'd be thrilled.
Sally: Well, then I think it's time for you to have a talk with Darla.
Macy: I guess I've got nothing to lose.
Sally: Just ask yourself. What is the worst thing that could happen?
[Knocking at door]
Stephanie: Come in. To what do I owe the honor of this visit?
Amber: Ridge isn't Eric's son.
Stephanie: And who told you?
Amber: Brooke told Rick. Rick told me.
Stephanie: Ah. So you rushed right over.
Stephanie: Well, why wouldn't you? Opportunities like this don't come along very often.
Amber: No, they don't.
Stephanie: Well, okay. Say what you have to say and let's get it over with.
Amber: Sounds like you already know what I'm going to say.
Stephanie: I think I do. I've heard it often enough these past few days. Let's see -- you had respected me and trusted me. And you believed everything I ever had to say about integrity, decency and honor.
Amber: Yeah, I did.
Stephanie: And now you're disgusted and disillusioned. And you can't believe that you ever looked up to me in the first place. That sound about right?
amber: Are people really saying those things to you?
Amber: That's horrible.
Stephanie: You think so?
Amber: Yes, I do. What -- everyone else is allowed to go out and make all these crazy mistakes, but you're supposed to be perfect?
Stephanie: Are you gonna defend me?
Amber: Why not? How many times have you saved my butt, huh?
Stephanie: More times than I like to remember. But I also have come down pretty hard on you, as well.
Amber: Well, when I deserved it. Thank God you did. You know, you helped me get my life back. You know, the reason why everything is great in my life, Stephanie, is because of you.
Stephanie: Oh, honey, that's not true.
Amber: No, it is. It is. You know, Brooke would have run me out of town if you'd let her. But, you know, now she's cool. And that's just because I learned. I learned from you. I learned how to be a good mother. How to be a good wife. And you know something? You're right. Opportunities to repay kindness and loyalty don't come along every day.
Stephanie: I'm glad you're here. It's been kind of rough.
Amber: I know. But it'll all blow over. And Eric will forgive you.
Stephanie: I don't know.
Amber: Oh, come on. It's not like he's never made any mistakes. I mean, look, he did have two children with Brooke. Well, I guess I kind of gotta be grateful for that, seeing as that Rick wouldn't exist if he didn't, so --
Stephanie: Yeah. Well, women have always been his weakness. And I -- I think they still are.
Thorne: My parents split up.
Thorne: Because my mother was keeping something from my dad -- something big. And he can't forgive her. Oh, god, Darla, you're right. You're right. I mean, this secret is a ticking time bomb, and I can't keep it from Macy anymore. But how am I gonna tell her?
Macy: Darla, it's Macy.
Darla: Mace. Hi. Hey, what's going on?
Macy: I -- I was wondering if I could talk to you about something.
Darla: Well, sure. Would you like to come over?
Macy: Would that be okay? It's -- it's really important.
Darla: Absolutely. If it's important, let's not put it off.
Macy: Great. I'll be right there.
Darla: Okay, honey. Bye-bye.
Thorne: She's on her way?
Darla: Yeah. Come on, don't worry. It's gonna be okay. It's gonna be okay. Thorne, we are going to give her what she wants most in this world -- a baby. Your baby.
Amber: She actually said that? "Your marriage is over"?
Stephanie: Yes. That's what she said.
Amber: My god! Who the hell does this woman think she is?
Stephanie: Apparently, Eric's new best friend. But the thing that's so hurtful that he did is he told her everything.
Amber: Well, he was just upset. But to try to use that to break up a marriage, it's just -- just disgusting. And it's so obvious. You know, eric will see it.
Stephanie: Then why is he still there?
Amber: Because he's trying to hurt you. He wants to hurt you the way you hurt him. You know, and she -- she's just a nobody. You know, she's a stranger. And you are the person that he has loved his entire life.
Stephanie: He doesn't believe me, you know. He thinks I trapped him.
Amber: Rick's felt that way about me before.
[Stephanie sighs] but we've gotten past it. And you will, too.
Stephanie: I thought maybe we had a chance, you know. That's what I -- until I got down to the beach house, and she opened up the door. And I was -- in order for us to work this out, he'd have to forgive me first. And then he'd have to face his own feelings of humiliation and loss and -- I don't know. I mean, there's this charming, lovely woman who doesn't seem to be asking for anything, has a shoulder that she can offer for him to cry on. When you look at it from that point of view -- you begin to wonder.
[Knocking at door]
Thorne: Hi, sweetheart. Hey.
Macy: What -- what are you doing here?
Darla: Same thing you are. He wanted to talk to me about something important.
Macy: Oh, my God. Did we have the same idea?
Darla: This guy loves you so much, Mace. There's nothing he wouldn't do for you.
Macy: I know. So are we on the -- the same page here? Are we -- we talking about --
Darla: My baby. And what's best for him.
Macy: Darla -- honey, if you're really considering adoption, I want you to know that I will do everything in my power to be an excellent mother. But this is an enormous decision. You need time to think about it.
Darla: Well, you know how I grew up, don't you? Bouncing back and forth from foster home to foster home, never knowing who to trust. It is gonna be different for this baby. I am going to give him everything that I never had -- love, a solid home, people he can count on no matter what. This child is going to know that he matters. Maybe the only way to give him all that is to give him up. Oh, honey. Don't, don't -- don't feel sorry for me. I'm the one that I got myself into this mess.
Macy: It's not a mess. Darla, there's a -- there's a child that's gonna come into the world and just light up everybody's life, no matter where he grows up.
Darla: But his life -- his life would be better with you.
Thorne: Macy, how would you feel about that? You and I raising Darla's baby?
Macy: I -- I would -- I would be so honored. But you -- you can't rush into this.
Darla: I'm not, sweetie. We've been talking about this for weeks.
Macy: You have?
Thorne: Yeah, I didn't want to say anything until I knew how Darla felt.
Darla: Mace, look at me. You have to know something. There is no one on this planet that I would ever, ever consider giving this baby to except you. You've got the most beautiful heart, soul. You got a strong marriage. This will be the luckiest baby in the world to have you as parents. I want to give him that gift.
Macy: Darla. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much. Oh, my God. You won't regret this. I promise. And I will love this baby with everything -- with everything that I have to give.
[Knocking at door]
Jackie: Hi. May I help you?
Amber: Actually, I'm here to help you.
Jackie: Ah. You're selling something, aren't you? I don't need anything, but thank you very much.
Amber: What about married millionaires? Got one of those? See, here's the thing. The one you've got belongs to somebody else.
Jackie: Who are you?
Amber: A friend of Stephanie Forrester's -- a very good friend.
Jackie: Ah. Here to warn me to stay away from Eric, right?
Amber: No. No warnings. See, when it comes to people breaking up marriages, I have a zero-tolerance policy. So your little game here? It's over.
Macy: I know this is an incredible sacrifice for you to make.
Darla: I love you so much, Mace. And if I can give you and Thorne what you've always wanted and give this baby a wonderful, loving home, well, then -- it's something I can be proud of.
Macy: You're just the best friend anybody could ever want. This is just unbelievable. I mean, just this morning, I was trying to get used to the idea that we might not have a child. And now here we are with a baby on the way. Wow.
Thorne: There's something else we need to talk about.
Macy: Oh, honey, the legalities? Let's -- let's not get into that now. [Macy sighs] this has been difficult for you. I can see that. You probably want to be alone. But I just hope you know -- I hope you know what this means to me.
Darla: Oh, God, Mace, I do.
Macy: You would, wouldn't you? Better than anybody. You've been there for Thorne and me since the beginning. When nobody else believed in us, when I didn't even believe in us -- you still had faith. And now the one thing that we need to make us perfectly happy, and it's coming from you. I just can't thank you enough.
Darla: Oh, God.
Macy: Darla? What is it? Are you having second thoughts?
Darla: Oh, no.
Macy: Well, then what? Oh, it's the father, isn't it? Are you worried he might object?
Macy: So you've talked to him about it?
Darla: At length.
Macy: And he's okay with it?
Darla: Yeah, he's all for it.
Macy: Well, good. That should make things simple. Oh, honey, what's the matter?
Darla: Macy, I have to tell you something, and I don't know how I'm gonna do it. I'm -- I'm just gonna go ahead and say it. The father of my baby -- he's -- I'm sorry.
Macy: Honey, let me make this easier for you. Listen to me. Nothing -- nothing that you could ever say to me about the man that you slept with will ever change the way I feel about you -- or the baby. So don't be afraid. Just tell me.
