Sally: And this is a party to celebrate what?

Massimo: Ridge and Brooke's engagement.

Sally: You're kidding?

Massimo: Hmm-mm.

Sally: I'm speechless. You don't want to see that any more than you want to see another oil tanker go down.

Massimo: Tell me something. Weren't you the one that told me that there is more than one way to skin a cat?

Sally: Yes, I did say that. But I did not say that you should take that cat, put a tuxedo on it and throw a party for it.

[Massimo laughs] Massimo: I am just doing what any good father would do. Ridge and Brooke want to get married. They are committed to having an honest and honorable life together. I have to respect that. Besides, Brooke has told Ridge all her secrets. And I want to help my son be as forthcoming to her.

Sally: Uh-huh. What exactly are you talking about, Massimo?

Massimo: Tell you what. You stick around, and you'll see.

Sally: Well, I would love to, believe me. But I'm afraid I can't. I have to go to the hospital. I have to be there when Macy wakes up.

[Massimo sighs] Massimo: Listen -- tell her that I'm thinking about her, okay? I know how much she and Thorne want to have children.

Sally: Thank you, Massimo. Thank you. I will do that. I'm sure she's going to be just fine.

Massimo: Come on, let me give you a hug.

Thorne: Why hasn't the anesthesia worn off?

Nurse: Oh, it has. She's just sleeping. She should wake up very soon. But the doctor wants her to rest as long as possible.

Thorne: I don't know how I'm going to tell her. We were starting a family. That's why she came in for the test. The doctor said there might be a problem, but -- she wanted to have a baby so much.

Nurse: I could have the doctor come in. Sometimes it's easier for her to --

Thorne: No. Thank you, though. I have to tell her. She'll want to hear it from me.

Receptionist: It's the first door on your right.

Clarke: Darla, don't worry. Okay? Everything's going to be fine.

Clinic nurse: I'm sorry, sir. This is as far as you can go.

Darla: It's okay. I'll be okay.

Clarke: Okay. You know what? You will. And I'll be here when you're done.

Darla: Okay.

Clarke: Everything is going to be fine.

Darla: Okay.

Clarke: Darla -- you're doing what you have to do. You can't have Thorne's baby.

Darla: I know. Thank you. Thank you, Clarke. I'm ready.

Clarke: Okay.

Darla: Okay.

[Door bell rings]

Massimo: Hold on. Hold on. I'm coming. I'm coming. Ridge?

Ridge: Massimo, what the hell are you up to now?

[monitor beeping]

Thorne: Macy? Hey, honey. Hey. Hey. Hey.

Macy: Am I okay?

Thorne: Yeah. The doctor says you're gonna be just fine.

Macy: Oh, thank God. The surgery --

Thorne: The procedure went well. You should make a full recovery.

Macy: So I can go home?

Thorne: Soon.

Macy: Good. I just want to go home. I want to go home so we can start a family. Did Dr. Sanders say how soon we can start?

Thorne: Macy, I have to tell you something. The surgery's over. And you can come home real soon. But as far as children are concerned --

Macy: I had the hysterectomy?

Thorne: Oh, baby, I'm so sorry.

Macy: Oh, God. Oh, my God.

Ridge: I'm tired of you messing around with my life, and I mean that.

Massimo: I realize that.

Ridge: Well, then what are you doing here? What is all of this?

Massimo: Well, I'm throwing you a party.

Ridge: Why?

Massimo: For your engagement.

Ridge: No, really.

Massimo: Yes. Look, you made your position absolutely clear, Ridge, okay? You said you were not going to acknowledge your feelings for Bridget, and you were going to marry Brooke.

Ridge: Look, don't just say it like that. This is not an either/or proposition, Massimo. I'm committed to my future with Brooke. I'm not going to let you interfere with that. Do you understand me?

Massimo: I understand.

Ridge: I'm serious about this now.

Massimo: I can see that. I just hope you're in a better mood when the party starts.

Ridge: I'm not going to put up with any more of your underhanded stunts, do you hear me? No more manipulations, no more revelations.

Massimo: You have my word. Zip.

Ridge: Yeah, it better be zipped. It better be zipped.

[Phone rings]

Bridget: Hello?

Massimo: Bridget, Massimo.

Bridget: Hi, Massimo.

Massimo: Look, I am throwing an engagement party for Ridge and your mother tonight. I would love it if you would come.

Bridget: An engagement party?

Massimo: Mm-hmm.

Bridget: Does this mean you're ready to accept the relationship?

Massimo: Well, if there's one thing I have learned from this situation is that, eventually, we all have to accept the inevitable.

Macy: A full hysterectomy? Are you sure?

Thorne: Yes.

Macy: Oh, God.

Thorne: It's gonna be okay.

Macy: No, it's not.

Thorne: It's gonna be okay.

Macy: No, it's not. I'm never gonna get pregnant. I'm never gonna have your child.

Thorne: Yeah, but, honey, you're okay. They caught it in time, all right? We can still have a family. There's other options, honey. Adoption.

Macy: No. I wanted it to be your baby -- your baby. Yours and mine.

Thorne: I know, sweetheart. I know.

Macy: I'm sorry. I just wanted to be a mother. And after all these years, we finally get to a place where it's possible. We could have the family that we wanted. I thought I was going to walk out of here. I thought, in nine months, I was going to be holding -- your baby in my arms. Because I kept telling myself it was going to be all right, that there's a reason for everything. What's the reason for this? What's the -- what's the reason for this?

Nurse: Mrs. Forrester, the doctor wants you to keep resting. I'm going to give you a sedative.

[Macy sobbing]

Thorne: It's okay. Listen, hey, the nurse is right, honey, okay? You need to get your rest.

Macy: Thorne, our babies. All I wanted was --

Thorne: I know. I know. But you get some rest now. Okay? Just get some rest. Close your eyes. Just close your eyes. Shh.

Nurse: She'll be all right. She'll sleep for several hours.

Thorne: Thank you. You hang in there, Mace. There is another way. Darla -- I gotta stop her. I gotta stop her.

Clinic nurse: Darla, just try to relax.

Darla: Okay.

Doctor: I'm going to give you a local anesthetic and a medication to slow any uterine bleeding.

Darla: Bleeding?

Clinic nurse: There's nothing to worry about.

Doctor: You may experience some cramping or some discomfort. Some patients feel nauseous or faint. If that happens, just let Nancy know.

Clinic nurse: I'll be right here the whole time.

Doctor: And once we begin, the aspiration will only take 10 or 15 minutes.

Darla: That's all?

Clinic nurse: It'll be over before you know it.

Massimo: Ah, Stephanie, Eric, I'm glad you could make it.

Stephanie: Good evening, Massimo.

Eric: A party for Ridge and Brooke -- we wouldn't miss it.

Massimo: Listen, when I heard that Ridge proposed to Brooke, I knew I had to do something. [Doorbell rings] oh, excuse me. [Massimo claps his hands] the honored guests are here. Come in, come in, come in. Make yourselves comfortable.

Brooke: Thank you.

Massimo: Have something to eat. Have some champagne.

Eric: Well, how's the happy couple?

Brooke: Well, we're very excited about this party.

Massimo: Well, hopefully, it'll be a night that you never forget.

Thorne: Oh, God, Darla. I can't let you do this. You're carrying my child. I have to get there in time.

Doctor: Darla, the local anesthetic has taken effect. We can begin the procedure as soon as you're ready.

Darla: I am.

Doctor: All right. I'm going to turn on the machine. Don't let the noise disturb you. Just try to relax.

Thorne: Darla Einstein? I need to see Darla Einstein.

Doctor: That's good, Darla. You're doing fine. You're doing just fine.

Receptionist: Sir, you can't go in there.

Cop: Sir, stop right there.

Receptionist: Wait, wait!

Cop: Sir --

Thorne: Wait, stop! I can't let you do this.

Massimo: I was just saying to Eric how happy I am that I was able to do something.

Brooke: Well, I'm happy everybody thinks our engagement is something to celebrate.

Stephanie: Yes, Mass. You seem to have had a change of heart.

Massimo: Well, sometimes it's easier to reach your goal if you sort of move with the tide.

Eric: Well, since Massimo's so generous to give you this pre-wedding celebration, I decided to get you something for after the ceremony. I've booked you two a cruise for the Greek Islands.

Brooke: Oh! Eric! I can't believe that!

Eric: Wait until you meet this crew. They're so wonderful. And they're ready to go as soon as you are.

Brooke: That is so nice of you.

Stephanie: What is this "going with tide"?

Massimo: You sound skeptical, Stephanie.

Stephanie: Suspicious -- considering what you were prepared to tell Brooke the other day. I mean it, if you're planning anything --

[doorbell rings]

Massimo: Stephanie, excuse me, another guest has arrived.

Brooke: Everybody, look, Bridget's here.

Massimo: Hello, Bridget.

Bridget: Hi. I can't stay long. I just wanted to come by and give you my best.

Stephanie: Hello, Bridget. I didn't realize that you were going to be here.

Bridget: Hi.

Massimo: We couldn't have an engagement party without Bridget.

Bridget: Thanks for the invitation, Massimo.

Massimo: How about some champagne, hmm?

Bridget: You know what? I should probably eat something first.

Massimo: Help yourself.

Bridget: Excuse me.

Ridge: Hey.

Bridget: Hi.

Ridge: Look, I realize how difficult this must have been for you to come over here. I just want you to know that I really appreciate it and so does your mom.

Bridget: Well, you're obviously not having any qualms about this wedding, so why should I?

Ridge: So you're all right?

Bridget: I wouldn't be here if I wasn't. Look, Ridge, I mean, I knew you'd made up your mind when Massimo told me about this party. I mean, why else would you have let him throw it?

Ridge: I didn't. I just found out about this tonight.

Bridget: This was his idea?

Ridge: Totally. Yeah.

Bridget: But don't you think that's a little weird?

Ridge: Actually, yes. But, you know, so far it seems to be okay.

Massimo: I'm glad to see that you're enjoying yourself.

Brooke: Oh, yes. I know that you didn't support this marriage. And now I understand why. Ridge is your son. You want him to be happy. And, you know, a few months ago, he wasn't very happy with me. Now all that has changed. And I'm glad to see that you're accepting this relationship. You won't be sorry. In fact, you'll see that you and I have a few things in common. We both want what's best for Ridge.

Massimo: As a matter of fact, that's what this evening is all about. I want to make sure that my son gets what he needs to be happy. And you're gonna help me.

Brooke: I'd love to. You know, what you did the other day, telling me that Ridge is your son, that was an incredible gift for me. Ridge and I are even closer because of that. Now we have no more secrets from each other at all.

Massimo: Well, see, now that's something I always believed. That it's always best to have things out in the open.

Brooke: Mm. I agree.

Massimo: I'm glad you see it that way. Because, Brooke, tonight, you're gonna learn something. Something so surprising that finding out that Ridge is my son -- it will pale in comparison.
