Stephanie: Mas, you know, you really shouldn't have come without calling first.

Massimo: Not even with good news?

Stephanie: Eric is home.

Massimo: Oh, goody, goody, goody. That means we're taking a little risk, and you know how much I like to do that.

Stephanie: Will you stop being silly? Tell me what this news is.

Massimo: Your problems with Brooke Logan have been taken care of.

Stephanie: What?

Massimo: Mm-hmm. She's no longer a threat to your family.

Stephanie: My God, you didn't hurt her?

Massimo: No, no, no, no. Rest assured, she is quite healthy.

Stephanie: Well, what did you do? Did you go see her? Did you talk to her?

Massimo: No.

Stephanie: Mas, you didn't threaten her? I mean, you didn't do something insane like kidnap her?

Massimo: Please, please. Just leave it alone. There are no threats, and there's no kidnapping.

Stephanie: I went to see her last night. I talked to her, and no matter what I said, I just couldn't seem to reach her.

Massimo: Well, you could have saved your breath and let me handle it.

Stephanie: Massimo, this is too important to me. I have to know what happened. I have to know what you've done.

Massimo: Brooke Logan will be leaving town.

Brooke: Oh, Dad. What is going on?

Stephen: Well, are you going to invite me in?

Brooke: Yes, of course. Come in. You know, I couldn't sleep a wink after you called me last night.

Stephen: Oh, well, I'm sorry, but I wanted to tell you in person.

Brooke: Well, you could have come over. I would have stayed up.

Stephen: Yeah, well, I needed to think.

Brooke: What is it? Is it Mom? Is something wrong with her?

Stephen: No, no, your mother's fine.

Brooke: Storm?

Stephen: No, no, everyone's in good health -- everyone but me.

Brooke: What's wrong with you?

Stephen: Well, you know I have this heart problem.

Brooke: Yes, arrhythmia, but you said you had it under control.

Stephen: Yes, well, it was, for awhile, but it turns out it's more serious. Look, there's no easy way to tell you this, Brooke, but I don't have a whole lot of time left.

Brooke: Oh, Dad.

Rick: Let's see if we can find her, huh? Hey, there's Mom.

Amber: Hey, I missed you so much last night.

Rick: You know, he asked Helen why he had to stay with her last night.

Amber: And what did you tell him?

Rick: Well, I told him the truth that we were over here making him a baby sister. And then he asked how we did it.

Amber: Stop. Stop it. Your daddy is being so silly, isn't he?

Rick: So how are you feeling?

Amber: I don't know. I guess we'll know in a couple of weeks, huh?

Rick: And until then, we get to keep trying. Not a bad deal.

Amber: Whoa, whoa, cowboy, there's a baby in the house.

Rick: Maybe two of 'em.

Amber: Besides, Deacon's gonna be here in any minute.

Rick: Oh, right, it's his day to visit with Eric. [Knocking] right on cue.

Deacon: Hey. Oh, there he is. Come here, pal. How you doing, Rick?

Rick: Good, how are you?

Deacon: All right. Hey, you look like maybe you were doing a little bit of swimming, huh?

Rick: Yeah. Yeah, he had a swim lesson this morning.

Deacon: Swim lessons. That's awesome. Hey, what do you say -- maybe grow up and be a navy S.E.A.L., Huh?

Rick: I hope not.

Deacon: I don't know about that. I think it would be an honor. Well, anyway, where's his clothes? I'll get him dressed.

Amber: In the bedroom.

Rick: Yeah, but I wouldn't go in there. It's a little messy from last night.

Deacon: Really?

Rick: Yeah, really. Well, listen, I got to get ready for work, okay?

Stephanie: Mas, if what you're telling me is true and Brooke is really going to leave town, I have to tell you that I will be indebted to you for the rest of my life.

Massimo: I seem to believe that you said something to the effect that you would give anything if she were gone.

Stephanie: Yes, I said that. I would.

Massimo: Well, she's gone. May I have anything I want?

Stephanie: What do you think it is that you want now that you've accomplished this extraordinary thing?

Massimo: Oh, perhaps -- one kiss.

Stephanie: That's all?

Massimo: One very long kiss.

Stephanie: Mas.

Massimo: Do you remember that night on my boat, huh? On lake Geneva?

Stephanie: Yes, I do.

Massimo: Do you remember how we looked up at the stars and then -- and then we made love under them?

Stephanie: Massimo. You gave me your word that you would never bring this up ever. Ever.

Massimo: It's a promise that I have kept for years, Stephanie, but coming back to L.A. Like this and seeing you again -- I mean, the memories and how we felt about each other. So vivid, so focused. It's almost as if it was like yesterday.

Stephanie: Well, it was a long time ago. And those memories may be sweet for you, but both of our lives have taken a very different direction.

Massimo: Yes. You with a man who broke your heart, left you for a younger woman -- your enemy, no less. Married her, had children, divorced her, went out with another woman until he came back to you like a wayward dog.

Stephanie: Mas, I've told you this. We've worked things through.

Massimo: Oh, sure, sure. Oh, he's a model husband now. He's a chameleon who changes his colors to fit the environment. Well, tell me what happens when an attractive woman comes into that environment? Does he change his colors again? Is he that chameleon all the time? I mean, I've known men like him. Stephanie, he's a pretender. He's as weak as a reed in the wind. Oh, my God, I would never treat you that way. Ever. You'd be my partner. We would travel the world. Oh, God, Stephanie, I just want to touch you the way I touched you that night.

Stephanie: Mas. Nobody knows about that night except the two of us. I want it to stay that way.

Massimo: That was so long ago. What does it matter?

Stephanie: It just does -- to me.

Massimo: Okey-dokey. How about we get back to my reward for getting rid of Brooke Logan?

Stephanie: I think that we should discuss that when she's actually left town.

Massimo: There is nothing to discuss, all right? It's just going to happen. I assure you.

Eric: Marone, get your hands off my wife.

Stephanie: Eric.

Eric: What the hell is he doing here?

Stephanie: He just came to see me, to tell me some absolutely wonderful news.

Eric: And have you delivered that news?

Massimo: Yes.

Eric: Good. Now get out.

Stephanie: Eric!

Massimo: It's all right, Stephanie. It's amazing how little one changes. Still the jealous adolescent. Good-bye, Stephanie.

Brooke: Dad. No, you're not --

Stephen: Look, let's not get emotional over this.

Brooke: What do you mean don't get emotional? When did you find this out?

Stephen: Recently.

Brooke: I want to know exactly what it is.

Stephen: Well, it's heart disease, honey. That's all I can tell you.

Brooke: Dad, I want to talk to your doctor.

Stephen: Well, maybe you can do that at some point.

Brooke: No, I want to talk to him right now!

Stephen: Well, he's in Paris, honey. Look, I want you to come back there with me.

Brooke: That's fine. That is fine. I will go, and I will meet with your doctor, and we'll seek out other opinions.

Stephen: Will you just listen to me? I've already done that, and they all concur. I'm dying. I don't want you to come back to chase after medical opinions. I want you to come back there to live.

Brooke: Why isn't Mom here with you?

Stephen: She doesn't know, honey.

Brooke: You haven't told her?

Stephen: Not yet. I wanted you to be the first to know.

Brooke: Why?

Stephen: Because you're the strongest in the family. You can help the others accept it.

Brooke: Oh, Dad.

Stephen: It's going to be all right. Everything's going to be fine. It's okay. It's okay.

Brooke: Of course it is. Of course it's going to be fine. Okay, look, this is what we're going to do. We're going to call Mom, and we're going to get her on a plane and the two of you are going to stay here.

Stephen: No, no, no. Just hold on a minute.

Brooke: Dad, I want to take care of you here in L.A. We have some of the best doctors in the world.

Stephen: Look, we have to go to Paris.

Brooke: All right, fine, we'll go to Paris, and we'll break the news to Mom, and then we'll pack for the move.

Stephen: Look, there's not going to be any move. My life is in France now, honey. I have nothing here.

Brooke: Yes, you do. You have me, and you have Donna and Katie nearby and storm.

Stephen: Honey, we have to do this my way. I'm not going to relocate.

Brooke: It would just be so much easier if you could be here.

Stephen: No, no, I don't want to live in L.A. Please. Indulge me with this, will you, honey, please? I'm not going to change my mind. We have to be in Paris. I need you with me, please. Do this for me.

Brooke: It really means that much to you?

Stephen: Yes, believe me. This is the best for all of us.

Brooke: Dad.

Amber: Rick said if you want to hang out by the pool with Eric, you can.

Deacon: Really. What happened last night?

Amber: Deacon, I am not gonna discuss this with you.

Deacon: You use protection?

Amber: Stop it!

Deacon: Stay here, pal. You did it, didn't you? You let him pressure you into it.

Amber: Deacon, Rick is my husband, and he wants a child.

Deacon: He has a child!

Amber: Does he really? Does he? Is that how you see Eric? Do you see him as Rick's child?

Deacon: That's how you see him, isn't it?

Amber: No. No, it's not, in fact, that's probably why I did it, out of guilt. Because there's always guilt. You are little D's natural father. No matter what, he's always gonna be more yours than Rick's.

Deacon: Amber, he's ours. Yours and mine. He's half-Moore and he's half- Sharpe. He's our link to each other. If you and Rick go and have a baby -

Amber: Then it's gonna make us go on with our lives. Isn't that what we want?

Deacon: Yeah. Yeah, sure it is.

Amber we are both married to other people, Deacon. And I may be pregnant.

Deacon: What the hell have we been doing these last couple of weeks, Amber? What have we been doing? Teasing each other, teasing ourselves? Indulging in something that can never be?

Amber: Yeah, that's right, it can't ever be, because I will never leave Rick and you will never leave Bridget. And no matter what we feel towards each other, Deacon, that's never gonna change. Look, we are both committed to other people. And they're good people.

Deacon: I guess we should feel lucky, shouldn't we?

Amber: Yeah.

Deacon: Then why the hell don't we feel lucky?

Amber: Because we're stupid! Because we can't see what's in front of us. Instead, all we do is keep thinking about --

Deacon: -- About each other. We keep thinking about each other. We keep remembering what it's like to touch each other. Baby, I think about your skin underneath my hands -- and it drives me crazy.

Amber: Deacon, just stop, please. Just stop.

Deacon: Why?

Amber: Stop talking.

Deacon: Why, because it turns you on? Amber, it turns me on, too. Look, we don't want it, but there's nothing we can do about it. You gotta face it, we're powerless over this.

Amber: No. No -- yes, yes, we have power over it.

Deacon: Really? Then why do you still have that tattoo? The other half of my heart?

Amber: How do you know I still have it, huh? Maybe I got it removed.

Deacon: Because you can't lie to me.

Little Eric: Daddy, look!

Deacon: Come here, pal. I think we're gonna go swimming.

Stephanie: What is the matter with you?

Eric: Massimo Marone is not to come in this house.

Stephanie: He came to see me, to tell me something.

Eric: He came to see you, and to aggravate me.

Stephanie: To tell me that Brooke is leaving town.

Eric: Brooke is leaving?

Stephanie: Yes.

Eric: Where's she going?

Stephanie: I don't know. I mean, but, if it's true --

Eric: Massimo Marone comes over here to tell you that Brooke Logan is leaving town, and you believe him?

Stephanie: Absolutely, yes.

Eric: Well, you're being very naive, and that's not like you. Don't you see what he's up to?

Stephanie: What is he up to?

Eric: There's only one way he'd be able to set foot in this house, and that's to come up with some stupid story like that.

Stephanie: He wouldn't do that.

Eric: Well, he did. He did, Stephanie. And it worked. Well, let's see, Brooke is leaving town, hmm. And I suppose your friend Massimo is responsible for that.

Stephanie: Well, yes.

Eric: And she's leaving permanently? She's never coming back? Why, that's your dream come true, Stephanie.

Stephanie: Eric!

Eric: Brooke is our CEO! She has family. She has kids and a grandchild, and she's coming on to Ridge like a cat in heat. Now, why in the world would she leave L.A.? That's ridiculous to the point of being laughable, except you know what? This isn't funny. Because my usually intelligent wife bought into this. She swallowed it, hook, line and sinker.

Stephanie: Well, I think he meant it.

Eric: Oh, he's coming on to you, Stephanie, don't you see that? He's coming on to you, that's the only reason he's here.

Stephanie: You know, the way you're acting at this moment, I have to agree with him. I think -- I mean, you seem jealous.

Eric: Oh, well, that's ridiculous.

Stephanie: Are you afraid that he would find me attractive?

Eric: Come on, this is insane, it's insane.

Stephanie: Oh, it is? That a man would find me attractive?

Eric: That's not what I meant and you know it.

Stephanie: That is what you said and I think that's just what you meant. After all these years of women drooling all over you, it's such a far stretch that someone might be interested in me? Why, that's insane.

Eric: Honey, Massimo Marone hates me. He'd do anything to get my goat. And he knows you have a soft spot for him and he's using that to get close to you.

Stephanie: Oh, is that so? There's no chance at all that he could have any genuine feelings for an old bag like me, is that it?

Eric: That's not what I said.

Stephanie: I think that is what you meant.

Eric: He's feeding you lies -- lies about Brooke. He knows how you feel, he knows how desperate you are to get rid her out of your life. Don't you see how blatant that is? He's told you this cockamamie story just to get close to you, and you believe him. [Phone ringing]

Stephanie: Hello?

Brooke: Hi, Stephanie, it's Brooke. Is Eric there?

Stephanie: Yes, but he's busy.

Brooke: I need to talk to him.

Stephanie: Well, you can't talk to him because I'm talking to him.

Brooke: Fine. Just tell him that I'm going to leave town. I have to go to Paris.  And I may be gone  for a very long time.  Good-bye, Stephanie.

Eric: What is it?

Stephanie: Brooke's leaving town. And I believe Massimo's responsible for it.
