Deacon: What was that click, Stephanie? It came from your purse.
Deacon: Wow. I am having the strangest sense of déja vu. Didn't you people learn anything last time? Let me see if I can help you. Note to Stephanie -- never tape Deacon again.
Ginger: Hey, stranger!
Amber: Hi, ginger.
Ginger: What are you doing here?
Amber: Oh, I just thought I'd stop by the cafe Russe to give an old friend a visit.
Ginger: Oh, I haven't seen you since the old days.
Amber: Well, how's it going?
Ginger: Serving for the rich and famous, living for the coffee break. Hey, Sam, would you get me a club soda? How about you?
Amber: Oh, I'm fine.
Ginger: Okay, so you're not here for a drink?
Ginger: Just need an ear?
Amber: Kind of.
Ginger: Lucky for you, I got two of them. What's up?
Amber: Where do I start?
Ginger: How about the day you married Rick? I heard it was a beautiful wedding. I'm so sorry I couldn't make it.
Amber: It was beautiful. It was. It was everything that I ever wanted.
Ginger: Okay, what's with the long face? Is there a problem, or more to the point, how could you have a problem? You snagged the hottest guy in Beverly hills.
Amber: Hey, I am happily married. I really am.
Ginger: Okay, who said you're not? Wait, he's not cheating on you, is he?
Amber: No, Rick? Of course not. No, he's totally loyal.
Ginger: Okay, so life's a dream.
Amber: Yeah, it's a dream.
Ginger: Okay. Are you going to talk to me? Or are you going to just sit here?
Amber: Okay. Do you remember that guy that came in here a long time ago, and he said he had the reservation under Forrester, but he was lying? Remember him?
Ginger: Oh, how could I forget him? Ooh, what a hottie. His name was Deacon. Deacon -- wasn't it? Wait a minute. He's the problem?
Eric: Stephanie's going to come through for us. You'll see.
Brooke: She has to.
Eric: She's perfectly capable of pulling off a stunt like this. You'll see.
Brooke: I don't want to wait till tomorrow. I want to go to Bridget with this right away.
Eric: We will. I promise you that. Every night she spends with this guy is another year off my life.
Brooke: Well, she's going to see what's happening now. It's going to be on tape -- that is if Stephanie succeeds.
Eric: She won't have any trouble getting him to admit his feelings for Amber, and he'll just brag about how he's using Bridget to get Amber and the baby back.
Brooke: Oh, Eric, you think it's finally going to be over?
Eric: I hope so. If it's not, I -- I have no idea what else we could possibly do.
Deacon: Lady, you are a pistol. What the hell were you thinking, Stephanie, hmm? I didn't marry Bridget to make it work. I mean, if I have to, I will. But make no mistake about it, Stephanie. There's no love between us. There never will be. So you were going to take this tape, and you were going to give it to Bridget. Well, guess where it's going now, Stephanie? Nowhere. You were the only person in your family that I had any respect for.
Stephanie: Because I'm the only one that insists you take responsibility for your actions. This time, you've crossed the line.
Deacon: Stephanie. Stephanie! Listen to me. I'm fighting for my son here. I figured you more than anybody could understand that.
Stephanie: Of course I can understand that. I've fought battles for my children, but I've never used them!
Deacon: Bridget is not a child.
Stephanie: She's 18 years old. If she were your daughter and some man were treating her the way you're treating her, why, you'd kill the S.O.B.
Deacon: I don't want to hurt her.
Stephanie: Oh, please.
Deacon: I don't.
Stephanie: It doesn't matter what you say. That's what's going to happen.
Deacon: Don't you think that this keeps me up nights? I hate what I'm doing to her. Bridget is the sweetest, most decent person that I know, and I promise you, I want to protect her. And when this comes down, I won't bail on her.
Stephanie: "Comes down"? This isn't going to "come down." When are you going to get that into your head? Amber is not going to leave Rick. Even if Brooke and my husband were to demand something like that, she's not walking out on the marriage.
Deacon: Well, I guess that's where you and I see things a little Differently.
Stephanie: You're wasting your time.
Deacon: No, no, I'm done with this. Just get out of here.
Stephanie: Deacon, please, just for this kid. Please, don't you understand? The longer that this goes on, it's going to absolutely destroy her when it's over. Please stop it, please.
Deacon: Then give me back Amber and my son!
Stephanie: I can't give you back a human being! Don't you understand that?
Deacon: You think you know Amber, don't you, Stephanie? You don't. She's got it for me. She's got it real bad. Every time we're together, sparks -- they just fly.
Stephanie: Did you sleep with her?
Deacon: No, but there have been some close calls.
Stephanie: Well, stay away. She's a married woman.
Deacon: Well, she also happens to be the mother of my child, so I will see her every chance I get. Stephanie, you can't win this one. She's going to come back to me! And until she does, Bridget is my wife. You want that to change that, well then, you know what to do.
Ginger: No. You're lying. He married Rick's sister?
Amber: I told you he's crazy.
Ginger: Crazy? Oh, he's totally romantic. I've never heard anything like this.
Amber: Romantic? Huh-uh.
Ginger: What? You don't see it? Oh, come on. He's sacrificing his entire life just to win you back.
Amber: Well, it's not going to work.
Ginger: Don't you see? That's what makes it so cool. He did it anyway. He gave up a chance at happiness because he couldn't have you. Oh, man, I wish I had a guy that hot over me.
Amber: Well, I just wish he'd back off.
Ginger: Amber, you're not telling me everything.
Amber: Look, I'm not in love with him. I'm in love with Rick.
Ginger: Who's talking about love? How about lust? I mean, you got a thing for this Deacon, don't you?
Amber: Oh, no, ginger. It's not a thing. It's a -- yeah, I don't know what it is.
Ginger: Well, he turns you on.
Amber: Oh, and I hate that. I hate that. I don't want to be turned on by anybody but Rick.
Ginger: Well, nobody's forcing you to be.
Amber: Yes! Yeah, he is. He totally plays on it. He puts these thoughts in my head, and then when I go home -- okay, like, the other day, I get a massage, right?
Amber: And I must have fallen asleep or something, and I had this dream and -- but it was real. It was -- God. Ooh. I mean, the masseuse almost thought he was getting an extra tip.
Ginger: Oh, man, this is getting great.
Amber: No. No, no, no, it's not great. It's horrible. It's horrible. I feel like some kind of animal in heat.
Ginger: Well, I think this is all totally romantic. This very sexy guy, okay, the father of your kid marries your sister-in-law to force her parents to hand you over. It doesn't get better than that. I say you give him what he wants -- at least once. Maybe it'll douse the flames, and if it doesn't, that's even better.
Deacon: Stephanie, I got to go.
Bridget: Deacon? Stephanie?
Deacon: Hey, babe, I was just coming home.
Bridget: I thought you were coming to get coffee.
Stephanie: He lied to you. He came here to see me, to talk to me.
Deacon: All right, let's get out of here.
Stephanie: He came here to talk to me because he thinks I can help him get Amber back.
Deacon: Right, now who's lying? Don't listen to this.
Stephanie: Bridget, he just admitted to me that he doesn't love you, and I recorded it on tape.
Deacon: She's trying to break us up, the same as your mother and your father. Baby, let's just go home.
Bridget: No, wait. What tape?
Stephanie: This. I had this little tape recorder. Only, he found it, and he burnt the tape.
Deacon: Are you gonna listen to this? Or are you gonna --
Stephanie: Bridget? Bridget? Have I ever lied to you?
Deacon: I can't believe you just played that card. This is so low, Stephanie.
Bridget: I thought it was sort of strange that you were going out for coffee.
Deacon: Well, wait. What are you telling me, that you believe this? What do I got to do? I mean, what is it gonna take?
Stephanie: Bridget, your mother and father aren't lying to you. He's not in love with you, honey. He's using you. He's trying to force Amber to take the baby and leave Rick, and if he does that, he's going to dump you.
Deacon: Bridget, don't.
Bridget: Let's go home, okay?
Deacon: You want to go to war with me, Stephanie? Well, you just got one.
Stephanie: I'm the wrong person to go to war with.
Deacon: We'll see.
Amber: Are you out of your mind? Give Deacon what he wants? What do you think, I'm some kind of slut?
Ginger: Amber, everybody has sexual fantasies.
Amber: Well, I want to stop having fantasies, and I'm certainly never going to act on them.
Ginger: They're not going to go away.
Amber: You want to bet?
Ginger: Amber, you're obsessing over this guy. It'd be one thing if you never saw him again, but you're living with his kid. And now he's a member of the family. He's your brother-in-law, right? Ooh, this is getting good.
Amber: Will you just stop, okay? I'm not like that anymore. I mean, maybe I was once, but I'm different now.
Ginger: Look, there's nothing wrong with the way you were.
Amber: And where'd it get me?
Ginger: It got you Deacon. Amber, he's a d boy, exactly your type.
Amber: No, he's not my type. He's not. And maybe he turns me on a little, but that's just sex and desire. That's not love.
Amber: Don't you see? I have been fighting this image of myself ever since I met Rick. I mean, he's good. He's good, and he's wholesome, and he's the man that I want, and I'm going to be a good wife, ginger. I am. I'm a Forrester woman now. I mean, do you know what that means? That means that I've got class and respect, and a Forrester woman does not go chasing after a man like Deacon.
Ginger: I guess, if that makes you happy.
Amber: Of course I'm happy. Look at me. I'm -- I'm happy.
Ginger: You can't be happy being someone you aren't.
Amber: People change.
Ginger: Sure they do, if they want to.
Amber: And I want to more than anyone. I mean, look at me, ginger. I had a mother who was with a different guy every day of the week, a father I didn't even know. I could have been just like them. I would've. I would've if it wasn't for some bizarre stroke of luck, or maybe it was an act of God. I don't know. I don't know. But ever since the day that I met Rick and he fell in love with me, I knew that that was the only chance I was ever going to get to break away from my past. He's my life now. He has to be. And if I were to give him up or just do something stupid, it would kill me. And I don't want to do that. Deacon said it himself. He's like a virus that's infected me, and now I have to get rid of him. And I will get rid of him. I will not let him destroy me.
Ginger: I got to get back to work.
Amber: Ginger, you're the only person I can talk to.
Ginger: Your secret's safe with me, okay?
Amber: Thank you. Hey, Sam, will you get me a beer?
Eric: How did it go?
Brooke: Did you get it? Did you get the tape?
Stephanie: No, no, no.
Eric: What happened?
Stephanie: This damn tape recorder made some kind of a funny noise, and he figured out immediately what I was doing. He grabbed my purse, and he destroyed the tape.
Brooke: Damn it! I can't believe this.
Eric: What are we going to do now? My daughter has to spend another night with this guy.
Stephanie: Bridget showed up. She followed him over to the Insomnia.
Stephanie: Well, I told her what he said, basically, and I told her what happened.
Brooke: Did she believe you?
Stephanie: I don't know. I mean -- Brooke, she's not a stupid girl. How many times does she have to hear it from each one of us before it starts to sink in? I don't think he can keep this deception up much longer.
[Cell phone rings]
Deacon: Hey, beautiful.
Amber: What do you want?
Deacon: I think you know what I want -- the same thing you want.
Amber: I'm hanging up now.
Deacon: Whoa, whoa, whoa, hang on. Let me say good night to little D.
Amber: I'm out, and he's not with me.
Deacon: Ah, that's too bad. So is the golden boy next to you?
Amber: No, actually, I was talking to a friend.
Deacon: Talking about me?
Amber: About how much I hate what you're doing to me.
Deacon: I think you hate it because it bothers you. Man, do I know how that feels. I think about the smell of your hair, the way the sweat tastes on your neck when I kiss it. I'm gonna be with you tonight, Amber. Bridget don't know it, but trust me. You'll be there.
Amber: Get -- stop it.
Deacon: You know, I got a really, really vivid imagination, and when I'm kissing Bridget all over her body, it's really you that I'm kissing. That beautiful face. God, those beautiful shoulders. Soft tummy, beautiful little rib cage.
Amber: Stop it!
Deacon: You can feel it coming through the phone, can't you?
Amber: I'm going home to my husband now.
Deacon: You do that. Oh, hey, tomorrow's my day with little D, so I was thinking maybe we could go to the beach. Why don't you bring a swimsuit. You ready for bed? 'Cause I am.
Amber: Good bye.
Deacon: Hey, there she is. Come here.
Bridget: We have to talk.
Deacon: Tell you what -- why don't we talk later?
Bridget: No, Deacon, now. You know, it was one thing to hear it from my parents. I expected that. They hate you, but it's a whole other thing to hear it from Stephanie.
Deacon: Bridget, I know how much you respect Stephanie, but I got to tell you, she's no different than the rest of them.
Bridget: Yes, she is. My parents would do anything to get rid of Amber, and if it broke up the two of us, even better, but Stephanie doesn't feel that way. She believes in Rick and Amber's marriage. She has no reason to lie to me.
Deacon: Bridget, she's no different than the rest of them. She hates me. What do you think she was trying to do tonight? She tried to get me on tape.
Bridget: So she was telling the truth about that?
Deacon: Yeah -- she was wired, and she tried to get me say things, trip me up. And I didn't say anything that I didn't mean.
Bridget: Okay, so then why did you destroy the tape?
Deacon: 'Cause I heard the click go off, and I found the recorder, and I went nuts. Listen, this is not the first time that she's tried to do this. Oh, no. No. When I wouldn't give up little D, they had me come to the house, and that whole place was wired, and they tried to get me to say incriminating things that they could then use to get custody of my son. We can't trust those people, Bridget! I'm sorry! I know they're your family, baby, and maybe this will change, but right now -- right now, this is how it is.
Bridget: I'm not an idiot, Deacon.
Deacon: I never said you were.
Bridget: Well, maybe you don't have to.
Deacon: Bridget, don't --
Bridget: No, no, no. You've said enough. It's my turn now. I went against my entire family -- their advice, their judgment. I believed in you, Deacon. I believed that you love me and that you would never betray me. Now, I want the truth, and don't you even think about lying to me, because I'll know. Are you using me, Deacon? I want you to look me in the eye and tell me if it's Amber that you want and not me. Tell me the truth, please.
