[Rain and thunder]

Vicky: What are we doing?

Ryan: Been thinking, Vicky. I just don't think this is what we both want.

Vicky: No, what I want is for this case to be over with.

Ryan: Listen to me, just for tonight there is no case. There is no sister in trouble. There is nobody outside this room and I'm not a cop. I'm just a man and you are a woman that I want to be with, more than anything.

Woman on intercom: Code blue, ICU3, code blue.

Donna: Where's Jamie? If Jake's having a heart attack, Jamie should be here.

Woman on intercom: Code blue, ICU3, code blue.

Nurse: Officer Harrison asked me to call if Mr. McKinnon's condition changed. He's cardiac arrest.

Donna: Why is she calling the police?

Michael: Because, Donna, from the way things look in there, this could become a murder case at any minute.

Woman on intercom: Dr. Frame to ICU, stat.

Jamie: Whatever Jake did to you, whatever happened in the loft, you can't keep it in, you know that.

Marley: Yes.

Jamie: Marley, please tell me.

Marley: What I told the police wasn't exactly true. I left a few things out.

Jamie: What things? What did Jake do? Did he hurt you?

Marley: [Whispers] He... uh, he -- he --

Doctor: Dr. Frame, is that you?

Jamie: Yes.

Doctor: They're paging you, a code blue.

Jamie: Who is it?

Doctor: Jake McKinnon.

Olivia: Hello, Mrs. Hobson.

Ada: Olivia, what brings you out in this monsoon?

Olivia: Well, I was hoping I could get something to eat, if it's not too late.

Ada: Oh, no, the kitchen is still officially open.

Olivia: Great.

Ada: Give them something to do back there. Ok, where would you like to sit?

Olivia: Well, actually I was hoping I could take it out with me. I'll make it quick.

Ada: Oh, ok, here you go, here is a menu. The Cobb salad is great.

Olivia: All right.

Ada: If you want something light. Liz was here for lunch today.

Olivia: Hmm.

Ada: I told her that you were both invited for thanksgiving.

Olivia: Oh, thank you. That's very kind of you.

Ada: I know it might make you feel a little uncomfortable.

Olivia: Well, Amanda and I aren't exactly --

Ada: I know about that, and it's time that the two of you and everybody else moved ahead. Now, our families getting together at thanksgiving has been a tradition. We drink hot cider and we fight over the drumsticks.

Olivia: I -- I really do appreciate the invitation, but I've made other plans.

Ada: Oh, well, it looks like you are looking forward to them, whatever they are.

Olivia: Mm-hmm. Well, I think a girl has to cook her first cooked turkey sometime, right?

Ada: Yes, this is true.

Olivia: And I think this is going to be my year.

Ada: Good.

Olivia: So anyway, I'm going to have two house salads, both with the vinaigrette.

Ada: Ok.

Olivia: The grilled chicken.

Ada: Ok.

Olivia: And the swordfish.

Ada: Ok.

Olivia: Oh, and one order of raspberry cheesecake.

Amanda: Oh, I'm sorry. Sam.

Sam: Hi.

Amanda: I don't believe this. What were you doing? Working late at the gallery?

Sam: No, I was just --

Amanda: Just here for some late-night enchiladas?

Sam: I'm leaving that to Olivia. She's ordering for us.

Sorry I took so long.

Olivia: It's ok.

Vicky: Ryan, there is a bedroom.

Ryan: Which way?

[Beeper beeping]

Ryan: Oh no.

Vicky: You -- you didn't hear that.

Ryan: Uh-huh.

Vicky: Ryan.

Ryan: Vicky --

Vicky: You didn't hear that, and neither did I.

Ryan: Vicky, I've got to answer to --

Vicky: No, don't get it. Don't get it.

[Monitor flat-lining]

Donna: I can't see anything. There are too many people in there.

Michael: Fine, let's go. We'll hear about it later.

Donna: I wonder if Marley knows about this.

Michael: I don't know --

Donna: And where is Jamie? He should be here. They've been paging him all this --

Michael: Donna.

Donna: What's Iris doing here?

Michael: Iris?

Donna: Iris? What are you doing here?

Iris: Oh, Donna, Michael. Oh, I had some last-minute things that I had to do for the board, mm-hmm.

Donna: Marley, it's Jake.

Marley: I know.

Michael: Iris, uh, don't go so quick; I think you should stick around.

Iris: Oh, what for?

Michael: Well, I have a feeling that the police are going to get here, and when they get here, they are probably gonna want to ask you a few questions.

Donna: Darling, the doctors are doing everything they can. Look at you, you're sopping wet.

[Monitor flat-lining]

Nurse: The epinephrine is in, but we still have a flat line.

Doctor: One, two, three, four.

Jamie: How long has his heart been stopped?

Doctor: Just over a minute.

Jamie: Give me the paddles.

Doctor: That bullet could cause paralysis with these compressions we are giving --

Jamie: We don't have a choice. He's gonna be gone for good if we don't -- paddles!

Jamie: He is still flat-lining. V-fib again, 300 joules. Clear!

Marley: Jake, don't do this! Please don't do this!

Doctor: He's back on sinus rhythm.

Jamie: I thought we lost him for sure. Start a lidocaine drip, two milligrams per minute. Keep a close watch on that monitor. I need a VQ scan of the lungs. I want a neurology consult to evaluate the spine. And a full blood work-up, ok? Stay with him. Let me know if there is any change. Nurse, I want to talk to you alone for a minute.

Marley: Jamie, what happened?

Michael: Jamie, Jamie, how is he?

Jamie: He's alive and it's only because he's lucky.

Marley: What -- what happened?

Jamie: He had a cardiac arrest.

Donna: Why?

Jamie: It could have been caused by a blood clot from the wound, but I really don't want to speculate. We're running some tests.

Donna: Well, what about the nurses? Weren't they watching him? Weren't they taking care of him?

Jamie: Yes, yes, they are, but you can't predict something like this. Excuse me.

Were you in with Jake when he went into...

Donna: All right, he's all right. I think we should take you home, get you into some dry clothes.

Marley: No, I'm not going anywhere.

Jamie: Arrange for a police guard for Mr. McKinnon's room. I'll call headquarters if it's necessary.

Marley: What? What's wrong?

Jamie: It seems there is a possibility that someone interfered with Jake's iv.

Donna: What?

Michael: What are you saying?

Jamie: It seems possible someone tried to kill Jake again.

Cass: Are you asleep?

Frankie: Yes.

Cass: Will you talk to me?

Frankie: No.

Cass: Will you at least listen to me? I know you are angry with me, but I did what I did because I thought it was right.

Frankie: Do you really think it was right, Cass? Dean calls you up asking for help, and you leave him in a jail cell all alone or, even worse, not alone.

Cass: I told you, Dean is in a private cell.

Frankie: Well, somehow that doesn't really comfort me, Cass.

Cass: Well it should. He could have been locked up for a lot longer than one night for what he did. They could have taken the gloves off. I know Dean is your baby cousin, but he is facing some serious adult charges.

Frankie: Dean is not a bad kid.

Cass: What do you call stealing a car, resisting arrest, and destroying private property? Fresh? Now he has got to learn sometime that he is expected to obey the law. Just like everybody else. And if he doesn't, he is going to have to face the consequences. Ok, you win. I'm not going to let our marriage be affected for even one night because young Dean is a rebel without a cause. You want him out? He's out.

Frankie: Wait.

Cass: You don't have to come with me. I will take care of --

Frankie: You're not going.

Cass: Well, I can't very well spring him from here.

Frankie: I mean you're right. He should stay there.

Cass: Yeah?

Frankie: Dean has to learn...

Cass: Self-discipline.

Frankie: Restraint.

Cass: A lesson.

Frankie: Consideration for others and common sense.

Cass: You're advocating common sense now?

Frankie: You don't have to have it to know it's a good thing.

Cass: I love that you're such a kind-hearted woman. But some time...

Frankie: Yeah, I -- you got to go for tough love.

Cass: I think so.

Frankie: I'll try.

Cass: I'll help you.

Frankie: I am sorry.

Cass: It's ok.

[Phone ringing]

Cass: Hello. No, Michael, we are not asleep. What? When did this happen? Stay there, I'll be right over, and don't let Marley talk to anybody.

Frankie: Whatever happened, it's bad.

Cass: Jake's heart stopped, and he almost died.

Frankie: Oh no.

Cass: And Michael thinks that it might have been induced.

Olivia: Look at you, you're drenched.

Sam: Yes.

Ada: Hi, Sam.

Sam: Hey, Ada, how are you? I had to park the car down the block.

Olivia: Oh, it's not letting up at all?

Sam: Not at all. Listen, do you want to wait it out here?

Olivia: You mean eat here?

Sam: Yeah, why not?

Olivia: Oh, well, sure, ok, if it doesn't bother anybody.

Sam: I don't think Ada minds, do you?

Ada: Don't worry about me. I'm here for the duration.

Sam: Can we change that take-out order?

Ada: Well sure, why not? Go find yourself a nice seat.

Sam: Let's do it.

Olivia: Thank you.

Amanda: Hello, grandma.

Ada: Hi, sweetheart. Oh, you're working late?

Amanda: No, no, Alli's asleep, I was just restless. The house seems so empty.

Ada: Oh, and you got to feeling a little more than lonely.

Amanda: I went to the office to try to fight it. I had a stack of paperwork on my desk this high, and I thought it would keep my mind busy.

Ada: But it didn't help.

Amanda: I knew -- I figured that you wouldn't be very busy on a night like this, so I thought maybe we could talk.

Ada: You came here to get cheered up and you ran right into Sam and Olivia, huh?

Amanda: Great timing, huh?

Ada: Well, there is nothing like making a bad night worse.

Amanda: I have to get used to bumping into him.

Ada: Think you can?

Amanda: Is that coffee fresh?

Ada: Always, so is the chocolate cake.

Amanda: Thanks.

Ada: I hate to see you looking so sad.

Amanda: I'll be ok.

Ada: It can't be easy for you, seeing Sam and Olivia together.

Amanda: Oh, it's all right. Olivia isn't right for Sam. Eventually, he'll realize that. Evan was trying to convince me that they were having an affair. But I know it's just a one-sided thing. I know that.

Ada: You do?

Amanda: Olivia may have a crush on Sam, but he doesn't take her seriously.

Olivia: Amanda's staring at us.

Sam: Listen, don't let it get to you.

Olivia: How can I help it?

Sam: Every time she walks into a room, it doesn't mean I'm going to walk out of it. I left my whole life behind because of her. Those days are over.

Olivia: Well, fine, but you really think you can have a good time with her here?

Sam: Yes, because you are here.

Olivia: I don't know if I can.

Sam: She's never really going to be out of my life, you know that.

Olivia: I know that; you have Alli.

Sam: But it will get easier. I promise you.

Olivia: I just wish I hadn't run into her tonight. Everything was so perfect before.

Sam: Nothing is going to spoil that. Look at your hair. It's so soft. You know, it reminds me of Barbara Larkin.

Olivia: Who's that?

Sam: This girl I sat behind in fifth grade.

Olivia: Oh, really?

Sam: She had hair like yours, yep. I always wanted to touch it, but I never had the guts.

Olivia: Oh, boy, I didn't realize how wet mine is. It probably looks terrible. I probably look like a drowned rat.

Sam: You look fine.

Olivia: Uh-huh, I don't believe you. I'm going to the bathroom, I'll be right back.

Sam: I'll be waiting.

Ada: Are you going to talk to him?

Amanda: I don't know, I haven't decided yet.

Ada: Well, you better hurry up, he is on his way over here. Sam. Everything all right?

Sam: It is perfect, thank you, Ada.

Ada: Good.

Sam: Listen, since I ran into you, there is something I wanted to ask you about that's kind of been on my mind for a while.

Amanda: What is it?

Sam: Well, thanksgiving is coming up in a couple of weeks and --

Amanda: I know.

Sam: You are doing a big family thing, right?

Amanda: Right.

Sam: Well, since you are gonna have all those people around, I would like to take Alli for the day.

Jamie: The medication is working and he is stabilized, at least for now, but we could lose him again.

Michael: Jamie, is it possible that Jake's heart could stop again?

Jamie: That's really impossible to predict. I don't even know what brought on the first episode.

Michael: Do you think it might have been chemically induced?

Jamie: It's possible.

Ryan: Are you serious?

Jamie: We don't know. It may be Jake's body reacting to the bullet shot or it may be something else.

Ryan: I need to question every single member of your staff.

Jamie: They've been alerted. They are waiting.

Ryan: And no one who was on duty should leave tonight before I can have a chance to speak to them. We need to talk to everyone else, as well.

Iris: Well, I'm sure that doesn't include me.

Ryan: Everyone.

Iris: I was just passing through.

Ryan: I said everyone, I mean everyone. Give me the rundown on Jake.

Jamie: Sure, I'm going to go see him, you want to come in?

Ryan: Is he still comatose?

Jamie: Yeah, no change.

Donna: Iris, you can be open with me. Did you come here to see Jake?

Iris: I hardly knew the man.

Donna: He worked for you.

Iris: Donna, I want you to know something. My dealings with Jake were purely business. And he wasn't very professional at that. My goodness, this is infuriating. I've got so many things to do.

Donna: Yes, I know, all this urgent business with the hospital board, it really must have been something for you to come all the way over here at this time.

Vicky: Where's Marley?

Donna: Oh, there you are.

Vicky: Where is Marley?

Michael: Uh, honey, I --

Iris: I think she's gone to Jamie's office. She seemed to be on the verge of a breakdown.

Donna: Victoria.

Iris: Oh, dear, she is so concerned about her sister. Well, you all must be, in the light of what's happened.

Jake's voice: I love to see you enjoy yourself, you know that?

Marley: I'll always enjoy myself when I'm with you.

Jake: So, how about a toast?

Marley: Who's going to make it?

Jake: Who always makes it?

Marley: Yeah, but, I know, but, you always make it really corny.

Jake: I'll make it simple. To spending more time with you.

Marley: Hmm, I like that toast.

Jake: Much more.

[Door opens]

Vicky: Man, you look like hell.

Marley: Vicky, did you hear what happened to Jake tonight?

Vicky: Yeah, I heard. You ok?

Marley: No, I am not ok. Jake almost died. And -- and Jamie thinks that somebody wanted it that way.

Vicky: You think you and I are the only ones who hated Jake?

Marley: Please, I did not hate Jake.

Vicky: Put that on.

Marley: This -- this is getting worse and worse. I am their prime suspect.

Vicky: But Jake is the only one who knows the truth and he is not talking right now. Marley, we just have to take it one step at a time. Everything is going to go as we planned.

Marley: Sure.

Vicky: You -- you didn't touch anything in his room, did you? I mean any of the equipment?

Marley: Vicky, of course I didn't.

Vicky: Ok, good. Don't, because they are going to check for fingerprints.

Marley: Well, Vicky, we were both in the room.

Vicky: Marley, it's going to be ok; Jake is still alive. Everything is going to be fine if you can keep yourself together and we can both keep our mouths shut.

Marley: I almost told Jamie tonight.

Vicky: Oh, God, you -- you didn't?

Marley: No, I -- I didn't because a doctor came to find Jamie right after he went into cardiac arrest.

Vicky: Marley, if you start talking, the cops are going to lay this on one of us.

Marley: That's just what you think, Vicky. It is not going to happen that way.

Vicky: I know cops, Marley. You don't. Everything we know has to stay between the two of us.

Marley: No, Vicky, I can't -- I can't live like this. I'm going to tell Ryan the truth.

Vicky: You're not going anywhere.

Michael: Cass, Cass, I'm so glad you are here.

Frankie: How's Jake?

Donna: He is all right, for now.

Cass: Marley's here?

Michael: Yeah, Marley's in Jamie's office.

Cass: Are the police here?

Michael: Yes, the police are here, and they know that Marley was with Jake before he went into cardiac arrest.

Cass: Maybe you better tell me everything you know.

Ryan: What makes you think someone tampered with Jake's iv?

Jamie: The tubing to the bag wasn't connected properly.

Ryan: I want the contents of that bag examined tonight.

Jamie: It's being done right now. You'll have the results as soon as I get them.

Ryan: Thanks. Who else was in that room besides the staff?

Doctor: Mr. McKinnon had a few visitors tonight. His ex-wife, for one.

Ryan: Anyone else?

Nurse: Another woman was there when I changed his iv.

Ryan: Did she see you change his iv?

Nurse: And she stayed a while afterwards, alone.

Ryan: Do you remember what she looks like?

Nurse: That's her.

Amanda: Alli's been learning a lot about thanksgiving at pre-school, and I think she's really looking forward to a big feast.

Sam: Is there a problem?

Amanda: Well, it's not that I don't want you to spend thanksgiving with Alli. But I think that she's finally old enough to really appreciate a big family holiday and I don't want her to miss that.

Sam: I will make sure she has a great day.

Amanda: Why don't you come to our house for dinner?

Sam: Amanda, no.

Amanda: Why? It would be great for Alli. I mean, it's been a long time since she's seen the two of us together like that.

Sam: I don't think it's such a good idea to put on a show for her --

Amanda: But it wouldn't be a show. Come on, it would be great.

Sam: If I am uncomfortable, which I will be, she's going to pick up on that.

Amanda: It would just be for a day. Come on, think about it, please.

Ada: We'd really love to have you there, Sam. I mean that.

Sam: Well, thank you, Ada. I'll let you know, ok?

Olivia: Well, that looked serious.

Sam: We were talking about thanksgiving.

Olivia: Really?

Sam: Yeah, I'd like to spend it with Alli.

Olivia: And Amanda doesn't want you --

Sam: No, of course not. She thinks she should be with the family, and she's invited me to come along, too.

Olivia: Are you going?

Sam: If I do, it's just going to be for a short time.

Olivia: Oh.

Sam: What are you thinking?

Olivia: Nothing. Nothing. That would be great for Alli, to have you there.

Ryan: I need to ask you some questions.

Donna: Me?

Cass: What kind of questions?

Ryan: You were in Jake's room earlier tonight, right?

Donna: Yes, but just briefly. I stopped in to see how he was doing.

Ryan: The nurse said that you were there when she changed his iv. Did you notice what she did?

Michael: Hey, what are you inferring? I think you just ought to leave my wife alone.

Cass: Michael, Michael, Michael, just take it easy. Now what exactly are you getting at?

Ryan: Just trying to get the facts.

Cass: Oh, you're doing a little more than that. You think that somebody tampered with Jake's iv. At least you could be direct about it.

Ryan: I'm not hiding anything. You all know another -- another murder attempt is a possibility. I'm just trying to investigate it.

Cass: By badgering my client -

Ryan: I'm not trying to badger anybody --

Cass: You got Marley to make a statement to you today without me being present.

Ryan: I'm asking the questions I need to ask. In case you've forgotten, there's a man lying in there with a hole in his chest. It's my job to find out who put it there. Excuse me. Sorry. I'm going to need a list of everyone who was in that room. Uh, hospital personnel and visitors.

Nurse: Does that include phone calls?

Ryan: You bet.

Nurse: There was a very anxious woman who called about him.

Iris: I'm sorry, officer, but I really have to go. I'm already late for an appointment.

Ryan: Uh, no, why don't you just give that person a call and tell him to just sit tight.

Iris: Can't I handle this when I see you tomorrow? I -- I've got nothing to do with this.

Ryan: I'll decide that. I understand that you were here at the hospital tonight.

Iris: Oh, yes, yes. I'm a member of the board.

Ryan: Where were you earlier?

Iris: At my office.

Ryan: Can someone verify that?

Iris: Of course. Yes, Lucas can.

Donna: Iris, I didn't even think you were on speaking terms with Lucas --

Michael: Donna, I don't think they need your help, really.

Ryan: I know Lucas. I'm going to need his telephone number.

Iris: Oh, certainly.

Ryan: I'm also going to need copies of all your financial records, any of your dealings with Jake McKinnon.

Iris: What on earth for?

Ryan: I don't want to have to subpoena them.

Iris: Oh no, of course. That's -- that's fine. Anything else?

Ryan: Just be prepared to go over all the details of your relationship with Mr. McKinnon. I understand that this can be a problem, but we'll need any kind of evidence concerning...

Iris: Let me get this straight. You are going to give me what I want, aren't you?

Jake: If you keep your big mouth shut and I get my quarter of a mill.

Iris: That's a considerable amount of money.

Jake: It's chump change for you, especially when I have what you want.

Iris: All right, if I agree -- if I agree to your scheme, it's going to take time.

Jake: Stroll to the bank, Iris.

Iris: It's a little more complicated --

Jake: Uncomplicate it.

Iris: If you give me the proof first.

Jake: You should try stand-up, Iris; you're a natural-born comic.

Iris: I just don't see anything funny about this.

Jake: You get nothing until I get my cash.

Iris: I -- I'm sorry, what?

Ryan: I said you could go.

Iris: Oh, thank you. Good-bye.

Ryan: Where's Vicky?

Donna: She's with Marley.

Ryan: Great.

Vicky: Marley, do you know what will happen if you tell them that Jake tried to rape you? They are going to decide that you had the perfect motive to blow him off the map. You are the number one suspect. You said so yourself.

Marley: All right, then it won't make a difference.

Vicky: What are you, kidding? Marley, they don't have anything on you right now. They don't even have a motive for you unless you tell them what Jake tried to do to you.

Marley: You think they'd take me to trial?

Vicky: I hope not, because you're not going to get a fair trial. I know I didn't and Mikey certainly didn't, and we weren't even thinking about jail time.

Marley: Vicky, they would never find me guilty.

Vicky: Yeah? I didn't think I was going to lose my son, either. Marley, even if you can prove that you are innocent, they are going to drag you through the mud. They're going to plaster your name on every front cover of every newspaper in this city.

Marley: God, Vicky, stop.

Vicky: They are going to use everything they can get, the cops, the press, the district attorney. They're going to use our entire history with Jake. They're going to use the fact that he had an affair with me, that -- that there was a paternity test for Steven and -- and his involvement with you, your divorce, your involvement with Jamie.

Marley: Oh, stop it. Jamie was not involved in this.

Vicky: Trust me. The D.A. can twist anything around. He can twist any friendship into some dirty little scenario.

Marley: No, no, Vicky, that's crazy.

Vicky: Is it? All right, think about this. You dumped Jamie for Jake. Jake was two-timing you. You wanted to get back at him. Voila, another motive.

Marley: Vicky, you can't really think that they would win.

Vicky: Marley, God, you are not listening to me. Of course they are going to win and you're going to spend a long, long time in prison.

Marley: Or you could.

Vicky: Nobody is going to go to jail. If we don't say anything, we will be safe.

Marley: You're -- you're sounding like Donna and it's frightening me, Vicky. It just --

Vicky: Marley, we just have to keep our mouths shut. We have got to stick together, honey, no matter what happens.

Ryan: Keep your mouth shut about what?

Iris: I was hoping you'd still be up.

Lucas: Iris.

Iris: May I come in? I'd like to apologize.

Lucas: That's not necessary.

Iris: Oh no, I was right out of line earlier. I should have realized that you couldn't finish the promotion until I'd read it. I'm sorry.

Lucas: Accepted.

Iris: I don't want you to think that I don't care about the company, because I do.

Lucas: Iris, I know you weren't mad at the company. I recognize a personal attack when it comes at me.

Iris: Yes, you're right. I just don't want us to keep playing these scenes over and over again. That's why I'm here.

Lucas: You were furious at me, Iris. I don't blame you.

Iris: Well, we're not children, we're adults. We have to work together and I'd really like us to be friends if you think that's possible.

Lucas: What brought this sudden change of heart?

Iris: I just -- I've had the worst day. Terrible.

Lucas: I'm sorry, what happened?

Iris: Well, I was at the hospital earlier. I was doing some business for the board of directors, and I heard that Jake McKinnon almost died again.

Lucas: Tonight?

Iris: Mm-hmm. Apparently his heart just stopped. Could I -- would you mind if I had a brandy?

Lucas: Oh, sure, sure. So is Jake alive?

Iris: Yes, but he's -- he's still in a coma. The police were there and they were questioning absolutely everybody. I wanted to help as much as I could. I wanted to cooperate, you know?

Lucas: Well, did the police think that someone went after him again?

Iris: I don't know what they think. Really, I didn't come here to talk about Jake.

Lucas: You came here to be friends?

Iris: Mm-hmm. Oh, and to also give you this. I've marked all the changes that were necessary. Thank you.

Lucas: Well, this could've waited till morning, Iris.

Iris: I really felt so -- so bad and --

Lucas: What is it?

Iris: I need a small favor.

Lucas: Sure, name it.

Iris: Well, I want you to buy some art for me as an investment. I just don't want to have to go through the galleries.

Lucas: Iris, I don't deal in stolen art anymore. I've mended my ways.

Iris: This is not stolen. We're talking about a quarter of a million dollars here.

Lucas: So go to Caroline. It'll be a nice fat commission for her.

Iris: There's a slight complication.

Lucas: So you came to me.

Iris: Yes. I need the receipt to be backdated to early last week. Can you help me?

Vicky: You have no right to be snooping around here.

Ryan: I have every right, but that's not what I'm doing. I couldn't help overhearing.

Vicky: Well, you could've if you'd bothered to knock. We were having a private conversation.

Ryan: I need to talk to Marley again.

Vicky: Well, you can't. She's exhausted and I'm going to take her home.

Ryan: Not yet.

Vicky: Where is Cass?

Cass: Right here. Are you bothering my client again?

Ryan: Don't worry, no one said a word.

Vicky: Cass, she can't talk to him right now. She is way too exhausted.

Cass: Do you hear that?

Ryan: Fine, sleep. But tomorrow morning this is still going to be in your face.

Cass: Come on, Marley. Michael and Donna are waiting for you. We can talk at their place.

Vicky: Oh, Cass, she's staying with me.

Cass: Ok, whatever.

Ryan: Do you know that withholding evidence is a felony?

Vicky: Why are you following Marley around? Why don't you find the person who tried to get Jake again tonight?

Ryan: Do you want to do my job for me?

Vicky: No, what I'd like is for you to back off. Marley was with Jamie the whole time this thing went down.

Jamie: The lab results are back.

Ryan: What have you found out?

Jamie: Let's see. There were no unexpected elements in the iv. Everything checked out.

Vicky: Well, that rules out one theory.

Jamie: Well, we can't be sure he wasn't given something until we get back the blood work, but so far he looks clean.

Ryan: So what do you think happened?

Jamie: It seems that the cardiac problem was spontaneous.

Vicky: It just happened on its own, right?

Jamie: Yes, that's usually the way they do happen.

Ryan: So, we're back to square one.

Michael: You mean they think Jake's heart attack came from natural causes?

Frankie: Side effect of the bullet wound.

Donna: Well, I'm glad they ruled out another murder attempt.

Michael: Oh, I don't know about that, Donna. This means it puts the focus of the investigation back on Marley.

Donna: Are you sure?

Michael: Yes, I am sure. That's why Frankie and I are going to be looking into this little matter privately.

Frankie: We are?

Michael: Yes, we are. I think -- well, I don't know what was going on with Jake the last few weeks, but I'm going to find out and I want you to help me. I want to know what's been going on. I want to know what he's been doing, who he's been with, where he got his money.

Frankie: I get the picture. I get the picture.

Michael: You got a problem with that or something?

Frankie: No, I don't.

Donna: Darling, I already spoke to Frankie about this before.

Michael: What?

Donna: I just didn't get a chance to tell you.

Michael: What? When did you do that?

Donna: Well, actually, I think it was the night of the shooting.

Michael: The night of the shooting?

Reporter: Is McKinnon going to make it?

Michael: Donna -- I don't know. Talk to his doctor, ok?

Reporter: What about your daughter? Is she being held?

Donna: No, she's not.

Michael: You know, we're not going to talk to reporters right now. Find somebody else, all right? Come here.

Reporter: It's the other one. She dates the cop on this case.

Vicky: Get out of my face.

Reporter: Are you and your boyfriend working together to clear Marley?

Vicky: Why do you make up this garbage? Marley is innocent, so get out of my face.

Ryan: All right, both of you, out of here. This is a hospital.

Vicky: They think we're staging something to cover for Marley.

Ryan: Look, this investigation is in a preliminary stage. Once we have come to something concrete, you'll get your statement.

Reporter: Or when you've finished sleeping with the suspect's sister.

Ryan: You slimy piece --

Man: Hey, what the hell's going on here?

Ryan: Captain.

Ada: You about ready to call it a night?

Amanda: You still have customers.

Ada: Well, the staff can close up, and anyway, eating chocolate cake all night isn't going to solve anything.

Amanda: I have to get used to seeing him sooner or later.

Ada: Better later. You're too sad right now.

Amanda: Grandma, I did this to myself.

Ada: Well, Evan helped. Boy, would I like to --

Amanda: It wouldn't do any good.

Ada: It'd make me feel better.

Amanda: I have to be the one to make up for what I did to Sam and Alli.

Ada: You will. You're very strong, Amanda.

Amanda: Just let me know what you decide about thanksgiving, ok?

Sam: Ok.

Amanda: Good night.

Sam: Good night.

You're upset about me going over there for thanksgiving, aren't you?

Olivia: Oh no, no, that's silly.

Sam: No, it isn't silly. Now, tell me what's bothering you.

Olivia: Ok, I was hoping to cook the two of us thanksgiving dinner, and Alli. It was going to be a surprise.

Sam: Oh, really, you're kidding me? I thought you'd probably go over to the Corys with aunt Liz.

Olivia: Oh, right. Can you see me sitting across the table from Amanda? She'd be staring at me like she was tonight. It would be horrible.

Sam: I don't think I'm going --

Olivia: With everybody there.

Sam: I don't think I'm going to be able to get through dinner either.

Olivia: But what about Alli?

Sam: [Sighs] Well, maybe it would be good for her to be with her family. Even if it is just for one day. I don't know what to do.

Olivia: Well, listen, you have to do what's best for your daughter.

Sam: Yeah. Can we get together afterward maybe?

Olivia: Sure, sure.

Sam: Are you ok?

Olivia: Mm-hmm. Yeah, it's -- this is all new, that's all.

Sam: What is?

Olivia: Us, making plans, seeing more of each other. It's hard for me to believe that it's going to last beyond tonight.

Sam: Hmm, beyond tonight. You know, let me tell you, it's already past midnight. It's tomorrow. And nothing's changed.

Lucas: Quarter of a million dollars. That's a nice piece of change to drop on an afternoon.

Iris: Not for me.

Lucas: What are you up to, Iris?

Iris: Lucas, I'm not up to anything.

Lucas: You never do anything without a reason.

Iris: Ok, ok, I need it for tax purposes. I need to write it off. Come on, after all we've been through, surely you can do me this little favor.

Lucas: It's illegal, Iris.

Iris: It's not illegal. I should have spent the money last week, but I got distracted. Goodness, you know how preoccupied I've been.

Lucas: Yes and?

Iris: And I need the investment for this quarter. Can you help me?

Lucas: Iris, I have stopped dealing with those kinds of people.

Iris: Oh, come on, Lucas. You could arrange it.

Lucas: Maybe.

Iris: You know so many of those artists personally. I just don't want to have to deal with a, you know, a gallery or a dealer or --

Lucas: Mm-hmm. A private sale, that's very neat.

Iris: Ok, if it's too much trouble, it's all right. I'll talk to Caroline.

Lucas: I didn't say I wouldn't do it. I can handle a private sale.

Iris: Then you'll get me something?

Iris: You'll have it tomorrow. Any preferences?

Iris: Well, yes. Something that would triple in value within a year would be just wonderful.

Lucas: This is going to be in cash.

Iris: Mm-hmm. If that's how it's usually done.

Lucas: That's the way it's always done.

Iris: Well, I'll have to, you know, reorganize a few things, but I think I can manage it.

Captain: I expect to make a statement on this case by tomorrow afternoon.

Vicky: Well, well, your captain made short work out of them.

Ryan: Yeah, that's Billy's style.

Vicky: How do you think that moron reporter found out that we were seeing each other?

Ryan: We're going out. It wasn't a secret.

Vicky: Well, it didn't have to be, until now.

Ryan: Listen, the press is probably going to be all over you and Marley until this thing is resolved. You should be prepared that there's going to be a couple of TV trucks camped outside your door.

Vicky: Yeah, I know. They probably will. I'm going to take Marley home.

Billy: You mind telling me what you thought you were doing?

Ryan: Shutting up a reporter.

Billy: Harrison, we need to talk.

Vicky: Because I just think it's for the best.

Michael: You think it's for the best?

Vicky: Yes.

Michael: Personally, I think it's a really lousy idea.

Vicky: Why would that be --

Michael: You and your sister --

Frankie: I've been doing some eavesdropping.

Vicky: Where?

Frankie: Ryan and his boss.

Michael: What did you hear?

Vicky: Yeah, something about Marley? If Ryan is coming down hard on Marley, it's only because he's following orders.

Ryan: I am not emotionally involved in this case.

Billy: Don't argue, Harrison, it only makes it more obvious.

Ryan: This investigation has not overlooked anything.

Billy: The D.A. is breathing fire down my neck. I need an arrest. Now, how close are you to bringing someone in?

Ryan: I just want to bring in the right person.

Billy: What's going on with the ex-Mrs. McKinnon?

Ryan: I'm going to talk to her again tomorrow.

Billy: You talked to her before. You got a witness that places her at the scene.

Ryan: That witness can't tell the difference between her and her sister. Listen, do you want an arrest or do you want the person that shot McKinnon? We haven't even got a report from forensics yet.

Billy: What about samples for comparison?

Ryan: I'm going to get those tomorrow.

Billy: She'll burn 'em by tomorrow.

Ryan: Oh, come on, she's not going to do that.

Billy: Look, I should pull you off this case right now, Mr. Federal agent.

Ryan: You do whatever you think is right.

Billy: I think you should get me some results tomorrow or you are in real trouble.

Nurse: Here's the list of visitors, detective.

Ryan: This woman -- this woman that called up about the -- to get the report about McKinnon. Was it before or after the cardiac arrest?

Nurse: It was before he was even admitted.

Ryan: Did she give her name? Whoever made that call might have shot him.

Billy: Five will get you 10. It was Marley Love.

Marley: How did you know I was out here?

Jamie: I watched you leave.

Marley: Jamie, is Jake going to live?

Jamie: He's stable now. It could go either way. Marley, you were going to tell me something when we were --

Marley: No, I can't talk about it. It's much too serious. It's just better if you don't get involved.

Jamie: Marley, I want to be involved. I want to help you. Why can't you understand that?

Marley: I do, I --

Jamie: Then tell me, please.

Marley: I can't. Jamie, I could get arrested. You could be subpoenaed. It's just better if you don't know anything.

Jamie: It is not better, but if it's what you want --

Marley: It is. Just let me do this my way.

Jamie: Don't go yet.

Marley: I have to. Vicky's waiting for me.

Jamie: I know you, Marley. You couldn't hurt anyone.

Marley: I have to go.

Jamie: Just remember, if you change your mind, I'm always here. Always.

Marley: I love you.
