Man: Harlow florist.
Amanda : Oh, who are you looking for?
Man: Amanda Fowler.
Amanda: That's me.
Man: Oh. Enjoy them.
Amanda: Thanks. Oh, wait a second. Wait.
Here. Thank you.
Man: Thank you, ma'am.
Amanda: I wonder who. Sam?
Amanda: "Thinking of you, Evan." Oh, damn you, Evan!
Ken: Amanda, what's wrong?
Vicky: Oh, no.
Ryan: What kind of a greeting is that?
Vicky: Goodbye, Ryan.
Ryan: Wait a minute.
Vicky: I will not let you question me without my lawyer being present.
Ryan: What is it about you and lawyers?
Vicky: I know my rights.
Ryan: Look, I am not here as a cop. This has nothing to do with the investigation.
Vicky: Then what are you here for?
Jamie: Marley, where have you been all the day? I've been trying to reach you.
Marley: How's Jake?
Jamie: He's the same.
Marley: He's still in a coma?
Marley: I'm going to go in and see him.
Jamie: Marley, wait. Aren't you going to tell me what happened last night? Why are the police questioning you about the shooting?
Marley: Jamie, I can't talk about it.
Jamie: Of course you can. You have to let me help you.
Marley: Jamie, you can't help me anymore.
Jamie: What do you mean?
Marley: I can't see you again.
I want you to forget about me.
Jamie: Marley, that's not possible.
Marley: Jamie, I am in the middle of an attempted murder investigation. If Jake dies, this could get worse.
Jamie: You think that scares me?
Marley: Jamie, you've got a career and your child to think about. Don't get involved in this.
Jamie: But, Marley, I am already involved. I've been involved ever since that night on the beach in Nice, the night I fell in love with you.
Marley: Jamie, don't.
Jamie: Look, I am not going to let you face this alone. Listen to me, you are stuck with me, and I don't want any more arguments. Do you understand me?
Marley: You're so good to me. I just -- I just wish I could've admitted my feelings for you before. None of this would've happened.
Jamie: What did happen, Marley? Why are the police even questioning you?
Marley: I went to Jake's last night to tell him that it was over.
Jamie: How do you think Jake got hurt?
Marley: Jamie, I really can't talk about this.
Jamie: Marley, I want to help you, please.
Marley: I'm sorry.
Marley: I'm just sorry everything went wrong.
Jamie: Not everything. Marley, I can tell you I love you, and you don't have to turn away anymore. I'll stand by you, Marley, no matter what.
Ryan: I missed you.
Vicky: I missed you, too.
Ryan: Let's make a date.
Vicky: For what?
Ryan: To go out.
Vicky: Why do we have to make a date? Why don't we just go out?
Ryan: For when this is over.
Vicky: You mean the investigation?
Vicky: So what you're telling me is that you're working right now.
Vicky: Ryan, you just got finished telling me that you weren't here as a cop.
Ryan: I meant that I wasn't here to question you. But after I leave, then I --
Vicky: Which can't be soon enough.
Ryan: Oh, come on, Vicky. Finding out who shot Jake is my job.
Vicky: I don't like being your pit stop.
Ryan: What does that mean? Look, I came -- I really wanted to see you.
Vicky: And maybe ask me some questions in the meantime?
Ryan: I'm not out to get Marley.
Vicky: Really, I couldn't tell that from here.
Ryan: All I want to find out is the truth, and maybe Marley can provide that.
Vicky: A lot of people were out to get Jake.
Ryan: Yeah, I know. I just got finished talking with your mother earlier.
Vicky: What does she have to do with this?
Ryan: Well, she mentioned another name of someone else that I have to talk to.
Ryan: Paulina Cory.
Matt: Hey, Paulina.
Paulina: Hey, Matt.
Matt: You busy tonight?
Matt: Listen, a bunch of us are going out to Sassy's. Why don't you come along? Reuben, Josie.
Paulina: Oh, thanks anyway, but I don't think I'd be very good company tonight.
Matt: Come on, it'll do you good to get out of here.
Paulina: Well, I appreciate the offer, but some other time, ok?
Matt: Ok, I'm going to hold you to that. Have you seen my jacket around?
Paulina: No, it's not in here.
Rachel: Oh, you know, it's a wonderful thing about kids. I mean, nothing ever changes.
Matt: Ah, it's up on my bed.
Rachel: Good. You're going to go out like that?
Matt: Like what?
Paulina: Did you speak to Jamie?
Rachel: Oh, yes, honey. He called while you were out.
Paulina: And has there been any change?
Rachel: Jake is still in a coma. He is worried now because the longer he stays in that coma, the less likely he will be to make a complete recovery.
Paulina: You mean he could stay that way the rest of his life?
Rachel: Paulina, an officer Harrison called while you were out.
Rachel: He would like to talk to you.
Rachel: Well, he said he would call back.
Paulina: Well, you said this would happen.
Paulina: Well, I'll be glad to talk to him. Anything I can do to help.
Matt: Mom, have you seen my gloves around anywhere?
Rachel: Gee, honey.
Matt: Only kidding? [Chuckles]
Paulina: Maybe it would be good for me to get out for a while. Invitation still good?
Matt: Sure, grab whatever you need. We're out of here.
Josie: Frankie? Frankie, are you home? Frankie?
Dean: Who are you?
Josie: Who are you?
Dean: I asked you first.
Josie: I'm getting out of here.
Dean: I'm not going to hurt you.
Dean: Don't be scared.
Josie: You're Dean Frame.
Dean: Hmm, and you must be --
Josie: I can't believe it.
Dean: You're a neighbor.
Dean: Oh, of course you're not. I should've known. I would've recognized you.
Josie: Frankie told me, but, you know, it completely slipped my mind. I forgot you were staying here.
Dean: Yeah, I am. Well, I have not seen something -- someone this exciting and new since I rolled in a couple of days ago.
Josie: Dean, I'm, I'm --
Dean: Now, what is a beautiful woman like yourself doing hanging around my cousin's house when some lucky guy -- I don't know who -- could be showing you a good time?
Josie: Uh, Frankie.
Frankie: Hey, Josie, hey. I've been meaning to call you and find out how your Mom is doing. Oh, I'm so glad to see you, girl.
Dean: Me, too. I'm glad to see you, too.
Frankie: Oh, hey, you two have met, huh?
Josie: Uh, not really.
Frankie: Dean, meet Josie Matthews, your cousin.
Dean: My cousin?
Frankie: Yeah, she's Sharlene's daughter. I told you about her.
Dean: Oh, no. I mean, yeah, you did. You have.
Josie: I've heard a lot about you, Dean. Nice to meet you, cousin.
Dean: Yeah, likewise.
Dean: Are you positive she's my cousin?
Frankie: She's your cousin.
Josie: So how long are you here for?
Dean: Well, it all depends.
Frankie: Dean's a musician.
Dean: No kidding.
Frankie: Yeah, he's on his way to New York.
Dean: I can't wait.
Frankie: Yeah, just staying with me and Cass for a short visit. Right, Dean?
Dean: Well, I figured I'd give Frankie the pleasure of my company for a couple of days.
Frankie: This is a thoughtful guy.
Dean: I am going to get my stuff together and I'm going to hit the big apple, yeah.
Frankie: Excuse me.
Dean: Excuse me.
Josie: So, um, what kind of music do you play?
Dean: Whatever turns me on. What do you like? What do you listen to?
Reuben: Hey, Frankie, how are you doing?
Frankie: How are you doing?
Reuben: I was waiting in the car for Josie and -- oh, there she is. Excuse me for a second?
Reuben: Josie, we're gonna be late.
Josie: Oh, Reuben, I'm sorry. I forgot. I was busy being introduced to my cousin.
Reuben: Your cousin?
Josie: Yeah. This is my cousin, Dean Frame.
Reuben: Dean, this Reuben Lawrence.
Dean: How are you doing, Reuben.
Reuben: Nice to meet you, Dean.
Josie: Would you guys excuse us for a second? I need to talk to Frankie alone.
Frankie: You do?
Josie: Yeah, I do.
Reuben: Josie, could you hurry up a little bit? I mean, we're already late.
Josie: Reuben, I'll be two minutes, ok?
Frankie: Two minutes, Reuben.
Reuben: Fine, fine, fine.
Dean: Two minutes.
Reuben: So. So.
Reuben: So you're Josie's cousin, huh?
Dean: Yeah, I am. And you must be, uh, her...
Reuben: I'm her friend.
Dean: Right, right.
Reuben: Just friends.
Reuben: So you're going to be here for long?
Dean: I'm visiting.
Dean: Mm-hmm. I'm on my way to New York, actually.
Reuben: Oh, yeah?
Dean: Yeah. I'm going to do my thing.
Reuben: Your thing, huh. Your thing is, hmm... drums, right? Music.
Dean: What, are you a psychic or something?
Reuben: [Chuckles] No, man, your sticks are sticking out of your pocket.
Dean: Oh, that's all right.
Reuben: All right, all right. Just take it easy, all right?
Dean: Yeah. It's just that -- well, they break, you know, real easy. And well, I can't afford going to replace them every five minutes and -- you know.
Reuben: Yeah. Ok, ok. Well, so what kind of music do you play?
Dean: What kind of music do you like?
Reuben: Jazz. Jazz, mostly, you know. I'm into Wynton Marsalis right now.
Dean: Oh, yeah?
Dean: Good, good, good.
Reuben: Well, I play a little piano, too.
Dean: Oh, yeah?
Reuben: A little.
Dean: Maybe we could jam sometime, if you do that -- if you like that.
Reuben: Ok, all right.
Frankie: I can't believe this. When did she leave?
Josie: Last night.
Frankie: Poor Sharlene, she must -- in order for her to take off like that, she must --
Josie: She said she needed time to herself and to concentrate on the baby.
Frankie: Yeah, so how is John taking it?
Josie: He's worried and he's hurt.
Frankie: Yeah, I don't blame him.
Josie: I don't blame him either. Oh, Frankie, I hope she's doing the right thing.
Frankie: Well, she does need to relax and take care of herself.
Josie: Well, I just think that I should be with her.
Frankie: Josie, she's going to come back, ok? So, don't worry. When she does come back she's probably going to be better than she's been in a long time. All right? So you just take care of yourself and don't worry about it.
Josie: Yeah, right.
Frankie: Ok. Well, ok, Reuben's been waiting for you a long time. Let's go see what --
Josie: I don't even know if I'm in the mood to go out.
Frankie: You had better put yourself in the mood, girl, 'cause sitting around and moping is not going to do Sharlene any good.
Josie: No, I guess it isn't.
Frankie: Of course it isn't. Let's go. Yo, guys.
Reuben: Well, you guys ready yet?
Josie: Well, I'm ready.
Reuben: Good. Yo, you want to come with us? I mean, we're going to this club called Sassy's.
Josie: Oh, that's a good idea.
Frankie: It's a great idea. Gives Dean a chance to see some more of the city and it gives me a chance to be alone. Which is something I forgot what it feels like.
Dean: All right.
Reuben: So how about it? I mean, it is a nice club. It's not as hip as some of the New York clubs, but it's pretty cool.
Reuben: And the best thing is --
Josie: Don't say it, ok?
Reuben: They don't check for IDs.
Frankie: They don't check what?
Josie: Let's go.
Reuben: We got to go. I'll steal your cousin.
Frankie: Wait, wait, wait. Hey, Dean.
Frankie: Have a good time, but not too good a time, ok?
Dean: Ok, yeah.
Frankie: Curfew is at midnight.
Dean: They're waiting for me. Is she tough or what?
Frankie: Take it easy, ok?
Dean: I always take it easy. I'll take it easy.
Amanda: Evan is the last person that I wanted to hear from.
Ken: I'll bet.
Amanda: I was hoping these were from Sam.
Ken: How is it going with him?
Amanda: Terrible. I saw him today. He made it perfectly clear that he wants nothing to do with me. I was hoping he'd changed his mind.
Ken: Maybe he will if give you him a little time.
Amanda: He hates me.
Ken: I rather doubt that.
Amanda: Why wouldn't he after everything that I've done?
Ken: Amanda, a long time ago I was angry with your father. So angry in fact, that I thought I'd never forgive him.
Amanda: You did.
Ken: It took me a long time to understand what had really happened. But once I did, I felt very differently.
Amanda: Well, this is a different situation. Sam understands everything that happened and that's why he won't forgive me.
Ken: Why are you punishing yourself? That's not going to make any of this any easier. You've got so much of your life ahead of you, so much to live for, so many people who love you.
Amanda: Why are you here anyway, Ken, besides cheering me up?
Ken: Well, I came to see your mother, but she's already gone home. I was on my way out and I saw the light on in here.
Amanda: I'm glad you did.
Ken: I am, too.
Amanda: You're easy to talk to. I would never have thought that when I first met you.
Ken: Ha, I remember. You could barely stand the sight of me.
Amanda: I was as wrong about that as I was about everything else. You're good for Mom.
Ken: Thank you. I think so, too.
Amanda: Well, I've had enough of this work. I'm going to go home. Want to come along?
Ken: Oh, it's late.
Amanda: It's not that late. Come on, Mom would be happy to see you.
Ken: On one condition.
Amanda: What's that?
Ken: That you put a smile on your face and try to forget about Sam, at least for a couple of hours.
Amanda: I think it's going to take more than just a couple of hours. Sam's life seems to be going just fine without me.
Sam: Did you see the look on Alli's face when I played her that music from "Romeo and Juliet"?
Olivia: Yeah, she went nuts.
Sam: I thought of you when she started dancing.
Olivia: You did?
Sam: Yeah, it's because you bought that little ballerina costume for her. She loves it.
Sam: You're getting that look on your face like you're trying to figure me out.
Olivia: It's really that transparent, is it?
Sam: It's because I kissed you, isn't it?
Olivia: Well, it -- it did come as quite a -- quite a surprise.
Sam: What's wrong with that?
Olivia: Nothing, but I, um...
Sam: It wasn't fair, right?
Olivia: Well, I got the feeling that you were trying to prove something to yourself or to me. True?
Sam: Olivia, I'm not in love with Amanda, if that's what you're asking.
Olivia: I guess that's what I'm asking.
Sam: Well, you don't seem too convinced.
Olivia: I just don't see how it can be that simple.
Sam: Who says it's simple?
Olivia: Well, no one, but how can you -- how can you change your feelings for someone after all that time? You and Amanda were married.
Sam: And now we're not. Now it's different.
Olivia: What? What are you looking at?
Sam: I was just thinking that you and I have been friends for so long and now that's different, too.
Olivia: I didn't know.
Olivia: That it was different for you.
Sam: You sort of been sneaking up on me.
Olivia: Oh, yeah?
Sam: Let's get out of here, go somewhere more private.
Vicky: What do you know?
Vicky: My mother was actually right about something. Jake and Paulina definitely had something going on.
Ryan: How do you know about that?
Vicky: Marley thought so, too.
Ryan: So Marley found out that Jake was having an affair?
Vicky: Don't make too much out of that. Marley was always going to break off her engagement with Jake. But Paulina is the one that you should've taken down to the station house last night.
Ryan: I'm going to question her out at the Corys'. While I'm out there, I'm going to talk to Rachel Cory as well.
Vicky: Hey, grill them all.
Ryan: But, what I really want to talk about is us.
Ryan: Mm-hmm. Like I said, I really missed you last night. Sorry I couldn't go to the opera with you. What did you think of it?
Vicky: Um, what's to think? I mean, they sang, she died, it was over.
Ryan: That's it? I mean, did you like it?
Vicky: Yeah, it was fine.
Ryan: See, I think La Bohème is incredible. Especially Mimi's aria at the end of the last act. It's just beautiful.
Vicky: Yeah, if you like that sort of thing.
Ryan: I do like that sort of thing. But what I like a lot more is this.
Vicky: You -- you just told me that you miss me but really all you give a damn about is your case.
Ryan: Where did this come from?
Vicky: You really just want to question me about the shooting. You want information. And the -- the most disgusting thing is that you would do anything to get it.
Ryan: I am not here to get any information.
Vicky: Goodbye, officer Harrison.
Ryan: You know, you are right about one thing. I am going to get to the bottom of this case. As a matter of fact, I think I'm going to talk to Marley right now. You just better pray that her story and yours match up. Because if I find out that either one of you are lying, you're in very, very big trouble.
Reuben: So, Dean, how did you get into music?
Josie: Shouldn't Matthew be here by now?
Dean: My Dad used to do a lot of traveling. He took me with him.
Josie: You told him Sassy's, right, Reuben?
Reuben: He will be here. Will you stop worrying?
Dean: Spent a lot of time in Vegas. My Dad liked Vegas.
Reuben: No kidding. But what does that have to do with music, man?
Dean: When my Dad was busy trying to get rich, I'd go and listen to the guys in the lounges. And they took a liking to me, sort of. One guy, he taught me how to play keyboards. And then another guy would show me how to hold drumsticks.
Josie: Oh, there he is.
Matt: I'm sorry I'm late, guys. Sit down, sit down.
Paulina: Hi, Josie. Reuben, right?
Reuben: Yeah. How are you doing?
Matt: How's it going, Josie?
Josie: It's going fine, Matt. Oh, Matthew, meet my cousin Dean Frame. Dean, this is Matthew Cory and Paulina Cory.
Dean: How's it going? Are you, uh -- you two are married?
Matt: No, not quite.
Paulina: We're brother and sister, sort of. It's long story. I came to Bay City to live with my family not too long ago.
Dean: Hmm. Maybe -- maybe you wouldn't mind showing around another newcomer.
Paulina: I don't think so.
Dean: Oh, come on. We could have a great time.
Matt: She said no, didn't you hear her?
Dean: I wasn't talking to you.
Matt: Well, I'm talking to you. I brought her here to relax, you know, not worry about anything except a good time.
Dean: So glad you could join us, Matt. Your friend's a lot of fun, you know that?
Josie: Dean, knock it off, ok?
Reuben: Well, Paulina, you used to work with Jake McKinnon, right?
Josie: Oh, that's right. Isn't that awful what happened to him?
Reuben: Yeah, well, it must be a real shock to you.
Dean: What are you guys talking about?
Matt: I really don't think this is the right time.
Reuben: I mean, was it like a robbery or something?
Paulina: Uh, I really don't want to talk about it, if it's ok.
Matt: Just great. Great.
Josie: I hope the guy lives.
Reuben: Yeah, I wonder who tried to kill him.
Josie: Do you have any ideas, Paulina?
Ryan: There was nobody over at the Hudson house except the maid, Angela. She said that Marley went to the hospital to check on Jake, so why don't we go there first.
Detective: What's happened with the bug we found at the McKinnon loft?
Ryan: Oh, nothing yet. I don't know who he was using it on. But you know what I was thinking about is that time clock on the editing console.
Detective: The clock stopped at 20:35, right?
Ryan: Right. Which means that at 8:35 P.M., Jake was shot. He slumped over and stopped the clock.
Detective: Assuming the mechanism was accurate and working.
Ryan: Yeah, we're working on that right now.
Detective: When was Marley at the loft?
Ryan: She admitted to being there at 8:45, which means that she was there 10 minutes after the clock stopped.
Detective: So you think Marley did it?
Ryan: No, I'm not saying that yet, but I definitely have to talk to her. Let's go.
Rachel: Well, what a pleasant surprise.
Amanda: I didn't think you would mind me inviting Ken.
Rachel: No, I will have to break out that special bottle of wine you suggested.
Ken: You bought a bottle?
Rachel: Yes, it wasn't easy to come by.
Ken: But well worth it.
Amanda: Well, I -- I guess I'll see you later.
Rachel: Where are you going?
Amanda: I'm going upstairs.
Ken: And pass up a glass of rare Tyrolean wine?
Rachel: Why don't you stay?
Ken: Yeah, please, Amanda.
Amanda: Ok, I'd like that, yeah.
Ken: Maybe I could do it.
Rachel: Well, I must say a few months ago this never would've happened.
Ken: We have come a long way.
Amanda: I'll get that.
Ken: Is that the bottle?
Frankie: Hi, Amanda, I'm sorry to stop by so late, but I need to ask Paulina a few questions about Jake McKinnon.
Jamie: It was a disconnected fetal monitor, I'm sorry.
Marley: No, I'm sorry. I got you at a bad time.
Jamie: Actually, believe it or not, I just went off-duty and you're not leaving until we talk about last night.
Jamie: Look, the more you tell me, the more I can help.
Marley: I can handle this.
Jamie: No, I'm sure you can. But don't you think it would be easier --
Marley: Jamie, I just can't talk about it. Vicky and I decided that I can't talk about it.
Jamie: Vicky and you what?
Jamie: When is Vicky going to stop --
Man: Telephone call for you, Ms. Love.
Man: You can take it right over there.
Marley: Thank you. All right, I'm going to take this call and then I'm going to go.
Jamie: Marley, we haven't even --
Marley: We will talk late -- just -- just call me later.
Vicky: Good, I got hold of you.
Marley: What's wrong?
Vicky: Ryan's looking for you.
Vicky: He was here pretending that he just wanted to see me, but I know he's up to something. Listen, Marley, you've got to stick to our story. Jake never tried to rape you and I didn't go there later, ok? Marley?
Vicky: Are you hearing me?
Marley: Yes, but --
Vicky: But what?
Marley: I don't know how much longer I can keep this up.
Vicky: Marley, you have to. If you don't, they're going to arrest you.
Ryan: What can't you keep up, Marley?
Marley: I -- I was just telling Donna that I didn't know how much longer I could keep coming here and checking on Jake.
Ryan: Yeah. It must be rough.
Marley: Well, I guess you want to ask me some questions.
Ryan: Yeah, a couple.
Ryan: Actually, I was hoping I could get your statement.
Marley: Oh, I see.
Ryan: If you want Cass present, I can arrange for that.
Marley: I have nothing to hide.
Ryan: Good. We can find a place to sit down and talk. How's this?
You're going to record this?
Ryan: Well, I just want to make sure that we're accurate. You don't mind, do you?
Ryan: Ok. This is the first of November, it's 8:15 P.M. The statement of Marley Love concerning the shooting of Jake McKinnon. It should be noted that she has waived her right to an attorney. Ok, Marley, whenever you're ready.
Marley: Um, I went to see Jake to break off our engagement and, um... and then I left.
Ryan: Did you tell him?
Marley: Yes, I gave him the ring back and then I left.
Ryan: What time was that, Marley?
Marley: I'm not sure. I think I went there around 8:00.
Ryan: Around 8:00.
Ryan: How did Jake take the news?
Marley: He -- he was upset. But I think considering the circumstances, he handled it pretty well.
Ryan: I think you should know that we found the ring. It was on the floor in the corner of the loft.
Marley: Oh, on the floor.
Ryan: Yeah, the setting was broken. And there was a mark above the wall or on the wall above it where it had hit when someone had thrown it.
Marley: I guess that happened after I left.
Ryan: He must have been a little bit more upset than you thought.
Marley: Yeah, I guess he was.
Ryan: But, um, but he was calm after you left?
Ryan: Did you know that Jake had a gun?
Ryan: It was one that was used on him.
Marley: What are you implying?
Ryan: Just trying to get to the truth. I want to make sure that you're positive in your recollections.
Marley: I am.
Ryan: I don't want you to think that I'm your enemy, Marley. I just want to make sure that there's no mistakes that can be used against you later on. I want you to tell me the whole story with as much detail as you possibly can. So let's start again.
Amanda: Come on in. Why do you want to talk to Paulina about Jake?
Frankie: Well, Marley hired Cass as her lawyer and I'm working for him.
Rachel: So someone thinks Paulina's involved with the shooting?
Frankie: I'm just asking questions.
Rachel: How would she be involved?
Frankie: She worked at Visions.
Rachel: A couple of months ago.
Frankie: Yes, but at the time that she did work for Jake, he was having problems with creditors. And I thought that if she could give me a list of names maybe I could come up with a couple of possible suspects.
Rachel: Well, I'm sure she'd be happy to do that, but she is out for the evening.
Frankie: Oh, ok. Maybe you could ask her to call me?
Rachel: Yes, absolutely.
Frankie: Great. Ok, I do have other people to see, so I'll shove off. I'm sorry to bother you so late.
Rachel: It's all right. Give our best luck for Cass.
Frankie: Will do. Take care.
Amanda: What's wrong?
Rachel: The police called today. They want to talk with Paulina also.
Amanda: Well, maybe they're after the same list that Frankie is.
Rachel: I have a feeling that they're not going to learn much from Jake's creditors.
Rachel: Because I have a feeling that none of this has to do with Jake owing money.
Olivia: So, I had a really good time at Sassy's tonight, you know. Didn't you? It was fun. I didn't expect to have fun because I was scared because -- because, you know, Greg might be there. But I think -- I think maybe they fired him, so that's good. They probably did fire him, actually. The food's not terrific at Sassy's but -- but it's still fun. I like going to Tops because the food at Tops is great. It's just amazing. I mean, Felicia does a great job. But sometimes, you know, you always have to dress up. And -- and that's kind of a pain sometimes. And -- ok, I'll shut up now.
Sam: You don't have to.
Olivia: I think that I'm talking to avoid what's going on.
Sam: You want some wine?
Olivia: Um, maybe a sip. Oh, thanks.
Sam: You're still worried, aren't you? All right, look, maybe that kiss was to prove a point. But that was then, and this is now.
Reuben: Paulina sure didn't want to talk about Jake, did she?
Josie: Maybe she's just upset.
Dean: I could've showed her a good time if she'd given me the chance.
Reuben: She wasn't interested, man.
Dean: How do you know?
Josie: Oh, Dean, come on.
Dean: Come on, Matt came in here. He took right over, did all the talking for her. And then he dragged her away to the --
Josie: Well, he was probably just being protective.
Dean: Too protective.
Reuben: Hey, Matt's a good guy, ok?
Dean: She's one sexy girl though. Now, wait -- he -- he's her brother, right?
Josie: Well, they're not really brother and sister. I mean, not -- not related by blood.
Dean: Well, you said, but --
Josie: Look, Dean, I don't even want to talk about this.
Dean: Whoa, whoa. What are you getting upset about, Josie?
Josie: Matthew and I used to go out.
Dean: You're kidding.
Josie: No, I'm not. And it still kind of -- kind of gets to me when I see him.
Dean: Wow. Wow. That guy's got to be crazy.
Reuben: Will you just lay off Matt, ok?
Dean: No, no. I mean, any guy that would -- that would break up with a girl like Josie ought to get his head examined, man.
Matt: So, what's it going to be, jazz or rock-n-roll?
Paulina: Matt, I'm not in the mood for this place, you know. Maybe I'll just go home.
Matt: Is that guy bothering you?
Paulina: Oh, no, no. Not at all.
Matt: Then what is it? Was it all the talk about Jake? You want me to make sure that the conversation doesn't come up again? I'll be right back.
Paulina: No, Matt, really, it's ok. Forget about it.
Matt: You sure?
Matt: For what? I didn't do anything.
Paulina: Yeah, you have. You've been really great to me lately.
Matt: So, what are we going to hear? How about this new song I've never heard before?
Paulina: Sure, anything.
Dean: I said there's no way I'm going up to schools for -- just for no money or anything.
Dean: That's impossible.
Josie: What's wrong?
Dean: That song. That's my song.
Olivia: Do you have any idea how long I've fantasized about this?
Sam: Uh-oh, expectation.
Olivia: No. It's that now this is real. And it feels better than I ever imagined it would feel. I'm so happy.
Sam: Me, too. The first time in a long time. It's because of you.
Sam: I won't push, you know, it's too soon.
Olivia: I'm not in any hurry.
[Knock at door]
Vicky: Surprise, surprise.
Jamie: I need to talk to you, Vicky.
Vicky: About what?
Jamie: About last night. Jake.
Vicky: I can't talk to you about him right now.
Jamie: That's funny. That's just about the same thing your sister said to me.
Vicky: What did Marley say to you?
Jamie: No, it's not what she said. It's what she didn't say that bothered me.
Vicky: What are you getting at?
Jamie: Marley won't talk about last night, certainly not in any details.
Vicky: Maybe that's because Cass warned her not to.
Jamie: Vicky, come on, this has your fingerprints all over it.
Vicky: Get serious.
Jamie: You're involved with all of this, aren't you?
Vicky: Just let it go.
Jamie: I will not let it go.
Vicky: Jamie, everything will be fine if you just cool it.
Jamie: I am not going to let you bring Marley down.
Vicky: I am not going to hurt Marley.
Jamie: Fair warning, Vicky.
Vicky: You know, if anyone hurt Marley, it's you. If you didn't take her up to your cabin the other night, none of this would've happened.
Dean: That song that's playing right now, I wrote that song. I sent it -- I sent it to that jerk and I -- and I told him it would be perfect for him.
Reuben: And what happened, you never heard from the guy?
Dean: No, I heard from him. I heard from him. I got a letter from his manager and it said it was no good. He couldn't use it. Now it's playing on the jukebox. They stole my song, man.
Reuben: Yo, take it easy, man! Yo, take it easy!
Dean: Why should I take it easy? I worked hard on that song, man. They ripped me off. They ripped me off.
Josie: Dean, maybe it was some kind of mistake.
Dean: It was no mistake. I want royalties, man. I want royalties. I want everybody to know that Dean Frame wrote this song. That's my song, man.
Jamie: What did you say?
Vicky: Forget it.
Jamie: None of this would've happened?
Vicky: Now, I'm just -- I'm just tired, Jamie.
Jamie: I don't care. I want to know what you meant.
Vicky: I don't -- I didn't mean anything. I was just mouthing off, ok?
Jamie: If it hadn't been for Marley being with me at the cabin, Jake wouldn't have been shot. Is that what you said?
Vicky: Jamie, just don't make anything more out of this than is there, ok?
Jamie: Marley decided that night at the cabin to end it with Jake. That's why she went over to his loft last night. Are you saying that something happened while she was there? Are you saying that Marley shot Jake?
Marley: And then I went driving for a while and ended up at Vicky's, which is where I ran into you. And you know the rest.
Ryan: Is there anything you wish to add to that?
Marley: No. I'm -- I'm finished.
Ryan: It's very succinct.
Marley: It's what happened.
Ryan: So you went to the loft, you broke it off with Jake, you gave him his ring back, and then you left?
Marley: Yes, that's right.
Ryan: And it was all very peaceful.
Ryan: And yet he threw the ring at the wall.
Marley: Well, you -- you said that. I -- I didn't see that.
Ryan: And then you went for a drive?
Marley: I just wanted to think things out.
Ryan: What things?
Marley: Ryan, it wasn't very easy telling Jake that it was over.
Ryan: But you said he was fine.
Marley: Well, I -- I said he was upset, but that he handled it.
Ryan: So where did you drive to?
Ryan: Did you stop anywhere? Did you, uh -- did anyone see you?
Ryan: So you just drove around nowhere in particular? Did you see any street signs?
Marley: What difference does it make?
Ryan: I'm just trying to fill in the blanks, Marley.
Marley: I -- I gave you my statement, Ryan. If you don't mind, I'm just going to go.
Ryan: Actually, Marley, I do mind. I don't know how to tell you this, but I don't think that you're telling the whole truth. As matter of fact, I know that you're not telling the whole truth. Now what really happened?
