Rachel: Sit down.

Amanda: Mom --

Rachel: Come on.

Amanda: Jamie said I'm fine.

Rachel: I know what Jamie said.

Amanda: Well, he would know.

Rachel: Does he know how you are emotionally?

Amanda: I guess you know about Sam and Evan, how wrong I was.

Rachel: You must feel terrible.

Amanda: I'll be all right.

Rachel: "All right"? Amanda, you just had a serious accident. You could have been killed. I don't think you're all right at all. I think you're seriously out of control.

Paulina: I really appreciate it, Mr. Croft.

Mr. Croft: I must say, it's against my better judgment, Miss Cory.

Paulina: Well, I don't understand why.

Mr. Croft: A cashier's check for that amount of money --

Paulina: Well, I have the money, don't I?

Mr. Croft: It totals almost the entire first installment of your inheritance.

Paulina: It's my money. I can do anything I want with it, right? Another thing -- I don't want you telling Mrs. Cory or anyone else what I've done, understand? Good.

Mr. Croft: I'll get your check.

Paulina: Thank you.

Ken: Paulina.

Paulina: What are you doing here?

Ken: I'm here to try to hustle up some extra financing for my Lake Michigan dive before the weather changes.

Paulina: Oh.

Ken: What's your story?

Paulina: My story?

Ken: What are you doing here?

Mr. Croft: Miss Cory, here's your check.

Paulina: Ah.

Donna: [Hums] Hello. Hi. This is Donna Hudson. I'd like to make an appointment to have a facial this afternoon if possible.

[Knock on door]

Donna: Uh, yes, that'd be fine. Thank you, bye-bye.

Donna: Well, good morning.

Jake: Is Marley up?

Donna: I have no idea.

Jake: I'll go wake her.

Donna: I'm afraid that's impossible.

Jake: What are you so tickled for this morning, Donna? You foreclose on an orphanage or something?

Donna: Jake. Actually, Marley didn't come home last night. She spent the night in the Cory cabin with Jamie.

John: What are you doing here, Grant?

Grant: John, hasn't anybody told you?

John: Told me what?

Grant: Sharlene, she's -- she's had an accident.

John: An accident? Where is she? Where is she? Oh, God. Oh, God, what happened? Sharlene?

Doctor: She's been asking for you, John.

John: What happened? What the hell happened?

Sharlene: John.

John: Sharlene, are you ok? What happened?

Doctor: She fell.

John: When?

Doctor: Last night. We tried to find you.

John: I had a critical patient I had to take to Chicago. I went with the ambulance.

Doctor: I know. We tried to reach you.

John: What happened, Sharlene? How did you fall?

Sharlene: John, I was -- I was at Grant's press conference and he announced that -- it doesn't matter.

John: No, it does matter. It does. Tell me what happened.

Sharlene: He announced that he was going to withdraw from the race. And the reporters started running towards him, and then I got knocked and lost my balance and then I fell. The next thing I knew, I was here.

John: Was she bleeding? Have you done a sonogram?

Sharlene: John, I'm fine. I'm ok.

John: Sharlene, let me hear it from the doctor.

Sharlene: But, John, I feel perfectly all right. There can't be anything wrong.

John: Carol?

Carol: I did the sonogram.

John: And?

Carol: I'm concerned about the baby.

Paulina: I appreciate all your help, thank you.

Ken: Personal transactions with the bank manager. I'm impressed.

Paulina: He's a nice man.

Ken: What kind of deals are you doing with him?

Paulina: Oh, well, he's handling my account.

Ken: Oh, I bet he's tickled to have you banking here.

Paulina: I would think so.

Ken: What do you need to take all that money out for?

Paulina: Well, that's kind of personal, don't you think?

Ken: Paulina.

Paulina: Shopping. I need the money for shopping, what else?

Ken: A cashier's check?

Paulina: I don't ask you how you spend your money.

Ken: Just wondering if everything's all right.

Paulina: Everything's fine, really.

Ken: Hmm, well, if there ever is a problem, I'm here to help.

Paulina: Oh, well, you know, you've helped way too much already, Ken, really.

Ken: I guess I deserve that.

Paulina: I really don't need you to be concerned about me anymore. Everything's fine. I'm fine, and I'm leaving.

Ken: Uh, not quite yet.

Paulina: Let go of my arm.

Ken: Not until you tell me what's really going on.

Paulina: Do you want me to call the guard?

Ken: The cashier's check... it wouldn't have anything to do with Jake, would it?

Amanda: Maybe. Maybe I am out of control.

Rachel: Good. You're finally admitting it.

Amanda: I was so sure of myself. I thought I had all the answers.

Rachel: Where is Evan?

Amanda: He's gone. I think he left town.

Rachel: Where's Sam?

Amanda: He hates me.

Rachel: I'm sure he's very angry with you.

Amanda: It's more than that, Mom. He's made it perfectly clear. He's not returning any of my phone calls. You know what it feels like to be this wrong? To know that because of what I did, Sam will never speak to me again?

Rachel: Well, you don't know that.

Amanda: Why would he speak to me? I can't blame him. Why would he ever want anything to do with me?

Rachel: Amanda, because you share a child together.

Amanda: I don't know, Mom.

Rachel: Do you love Sam?

Amanda: I don't know. I don't know what I feel anymore.

Rachel: Well, at least that's honest. Amanda, what you have to do is take some time to think things through, to figure out where you're going with your life.

Amanda: I'm never going to forgive myself for what I did to Sam. Have you learned how to forgive yourself?

Rachel: You learn from your mistakes.

Amanda: Well, this was a pretty big mistake, Mom. I cheated on Sam. I made his life miserable. I caused it all from beginning to end.

Rachel: And you were very young. And you were very attracted to Evan.

Amanda: Don't make excuses for me.

Rachel: I'm not. I want you to look very hard at what you've done, not just beat yourself up with it.

Amanda: I've looked at it, Mom. I trashed my marriage. I forced Sam to leave town. I kept him away from his daughter for months. How could I do all of that?

Rachel: Well, that's what you've got to figure out.

Amanda: If I had only listened to him.

Rachel: Lots of people didn't listen to him. He was hostile. He was withdrawn. Maybe he had a reason. But you weren't the only one who thought he might hurt you.

Amanda: Don't you understand? I don't want to be let off the hook. I have to take responsibility for my actions.

Rachel: I agree, but you also have to look at the whole picture.

Amanda: Mom, I was his wife. Out of anybody, I should have seen the truth.

Rachel: But you didn't, and there's nothing you can do about that now. What you can do is examine why you did what you did. Try and exert more control over your emotions and try to make some sense out of your life in the future.

Amanda: The future. If I can't talk to Sam how can I think about the future?

Rachel: Well, you better start. You've got a daughter. You have responsibilities. Now, has he answered any of your phone calls?

Amanda: No. He's coming by to pick up Alli any minute though, so --

Amanda: I'll get that. Sam. Hi.

Olivia: Hi, Amanda.

Josie: Congressman Harrison.

Grant: Josie.

Josie: How's my mother? Has there been any change?

Grant: Honey, as far as I know, your mother is going to be just fine.

Josie: Well, I have to see her.

Grant: No, wait, wait a minute. John is in there right now. I think it's best if you just wait a few minutes, ok?

Josie: You haven't said anything about the baby. Is the baby ok?

Sharlene: What about the baby? What's wrong?

Carol: Hopefully nothing.

John: Carol, just tell us.

Carol: The sonogram indicates there may be a small blood clot attached to the placenta. There is also some indication of fetal distress.

John: What -- what indication?

Sharlene: No, wait a second. How can that be? I feel fine.

John: Sharlene --

Sharlene: The baby is still kicking, there's movement.

John: Apparently, there was some trauma to the uterus --

Sharlene: How can --

John: When you fell.

Carol: Sharlene's also been having some contractions. The fetal monitor indicated that.

Sharlene: I can barely feel them.

John: Could she be going into labor?

Sharlene: No! It's too soon.

John: Sharlene, please.

Carol: We're going to do everything we can to prevent it.

Sharlene: What are you talking about? What? I am not going to lose this baby.

Carol: I'm afraid it's a possibility.

Sharlene: No.

Carol: Just a possibility. The radiologist is studying the sonogram. We'll know more as the day wears on.

Sharlene: I have to know now.

John: Sharlene, what you have to do is to stay in bed and rest.

Sharlene: John, she just told me that I might lose this baby. What do you mean?

John: I heard what she said, Sharlene. Please, you must rest! I'm going to take care of it. I'm going to take care of you. Ok?

John: You can leave us, Carol. I'll take care of her.

Josie: Can I see my mother?

Grant: Doctor, is she going to be all right?

Sharlene: My God, no. John, this can't be happening. This can't -- please don't let anything happen to our baby. Please. Please.

Sam:: Glad to see you're ok.

Amanda: I'm all right.

Rachel: Hello, Sam, Olivia.

Olivia: Hi.

Sam:: Where's Alli?

Amanda: Hilda has her upstairs. She's dressing her.

Sam:: Then she's expecting me?

Amanda: Yes. Um, I think she was under the impression it was just going to be the two of you, though.

Sam:: Well, I decided to invite Olivia along with us to the park, ok?

Rachel: Sam, may I talk to you for a minute?

Sam:: Ok. Excuse me, Olivia.

Olivia: I'll wait in the car.

Amanda: Wait. I have something to say.

Olivia: Ok.

Amanda: I know I have been unfair to you.

Olivia: That's a bit of an understatement, wouldn't you say?

Amanda: All right. I have been awful to you. And I am ashamed that you believed in Sam when I didn't, because obviously you were right. You knew Sam better than his own wife did.

Olivia: He's a wonderful person.

Amanda: Yes, I know that. And I didn't appreciate him. I ruined everything.

Olivia: Amanda, if it's any consolation, I found Evan could be very convincing at times. He nearly took me in, too.

Amanda: But he didn't. That's the difference between you and me.

Rachel: Sam, I just want to say, Amanda didn't ask me to talk to you. I just found out what happened and I -- forget it.

Sam:: What?

Rachel: Uh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for what happened to you and for what everyone did.

Sam:: Are you finished?

Rachel: I know you tried to warn us that Evan was setting you up.

Sam:: And no one gave me the time of day.

Rachel: Sam, I did support you. I supported you even after you left. But we never heard from you. You didn't even call your daughter.

Sam: There was only one person who really believed in me in this entire town, one person.

Rachel: I know "sorry" doesn't cut it. I didn't expect it to. But for your daughter's sake, you two have to talk. Please, talk to Amanda.

Sam: No.

Rachel: Sam, she understands what she' done now. She feels terrible.

Sam:: I'm not interested in how Amanda feels.

Rachel: You think that's wise? She's the mother of your daughter. You want to go on hating her forever?

Sam: I didn't want any of this.

Rachel: I know, none of us did. But at least talk to her, please.

Sam:: Where was Amanda when I needed to talk? Can you tell me that, Rachel?

Amanda: She's dressed and ready to go.

Sam: There's my sweetheart. Come here, baby. Daddy's going to take you to the park, ok? We'll be back in a few hours. Come on, baby. That's a good girl.

Jake: You're sure you haven't seen her? No. Never mind.

Donna: Told you so. Oh, that feels so good to say that to you.

Jake: Where else could she be?

Donna: If I were you, I'd try the Cory mansion.

Jake: Shut up, Donna!

Donna: I'm just trying to be helpful, Jake. When Marley called this morning, she said she was still with Jamie.

Jake: You love making trouble, don't you?

Donna: Yes, for you I do.

Jake: Well, I hate to disappoint you, Donna, but I happen to know the only reason Marley is with Jamie was to help Amanda.

Donna: Well, Amanda must have needed a lot of help if Marley and Jamie had to stay there all night long.

Jake: Put a sock in it!

Donna: Jake, we both know that Marley has had feelings for Jamie ever since she came back from Nice. I mean, it's obvious that she is in love with him. And it's broken my heart to watch her deny all of those feelings all this time. But after last night, who knows?

Jake: What are you talking about?

Donna: Do I have to spell it out for you?

Jake: Marley and I have never been closer.

Donna: In your dreams, darling.

Jake: Nothing can keep us apart. I can take care of her now.

Donna: Oh, you're talking about this sudden windfall with money you've had, huh?

Jake: Everything is falling into place for us. She can have everything she wants.

Donna: I agree with you. But you're not going to be the one to give it to her. Face it, Jake, you're losing her.

Jake: You'd better hope I don't, for your sake.

Paulina: This has nothing to do with Jake.

Ken: Oh?

Paulina: He's marrying Marley. He has more money than he needs.

Ken: Yes, that's what you said.

Paulina: That's why he stopped blackmailing me.

Ken: Uh-huh.

Paulina: It's over, ok? Now, all I want to do is enjoy my money, all right?

Ken: Ok.

Paulina: So why are you looking at me like that?

Ken: We've both made a lot of mistakes, Paulina. I'd hate to see you make another one.

Paulina: I'm not. I finally have everything under control.

Ken: Well, if you ever lose that control, just remember I'm here to help.

Paulina: Yeah, well, you can help by just staying away, ok? You got Rachel. I have my dream. Life is good. Just stay away.

Donna: What do you mean?

Jake: You see, Donna, I can wipe that smug look off your face anytime I want.

Donna: Get out of here, Jake.

Jake: All I have to do is have a chat with Michael about the night of the gala.

Donna: You can't.

Jake: Says who?

Donna: You'd lose Marley.

Jake: You see, Michael might forgive you for that one night.

Donna: You're bluffing.

Jake: He might forgive you for sleeping with your son-in-law.

Donna: Get out of here, Jake.

Jake: But will he forgive you for lying to his face for months and months?

Donna: I had to do that.

Jake: Would he forgive you for giving away his son so that nobody would find out the truth?

Donna: Get out of here!

Jake: He had to watch, Donna, as his son was given away because of you! Think he'd forgive you for that? I don't. I don't, Donna. I think you'd lose Michael. I think you'd lose Marley, too.

[Phone rings]

Donna: Hello? She is? All right, I'll be right over there. Yes, thanks for calling. Bye.

Jake: Was that Marley?

Donna: Sharlene's in the hospital. I have to get right over there.

Jake: What's wrong?

Donna: What do you care?

Jake: You're right. What do I care? I have to find Marley.

Donna: If you lose Marley, what are you going to do?

Jake: You'd better pray that I don't.

Donna: If you tell Michael, you better start praying, too, Jake, because I won't have anything left to lose.

Josie: John, John, how is she?

John: Listen, you can go in, Josie, but just stay for a few minutes, all right? I want her to rest.

Josie: Ok.

Grant: John, is she all right?

John: No, damn it, she is not all right. Now, I want you to tell me what happened. Tell me exactly what happened.

Grant: She fell.

John: How?

Grant: Well, there were all these reporters. I just made my announcement and they all started rushing toward me, and the next thing I knew she was --

John: Why, Grant, why was she there in the first place?

Grant: Because she wanted to talk to me, that's why.

John: I'll tell you why. She was there because you wanted her to see you in all your glory.

Grant: No, that's not --

John: Yeah, that's it. Listen, I know you want to ignore the fact that she's carrying my child, but the least you could've done was to try to take care of her.

Grant: Wait, is something wrong? Is it -- it's the baby?

John: How dare you even ask about this baby! You don't give a damn about the baby! You wish it didn't exist! That way, Sharlene would be free, and that's what you really want, isn't it?! Isn't it?!

Grant: What are you accusing me of?

John: I can't stand the sight of you.

Grant: Listen to me, John. Listen to me, John! I would never wish that Sharlene would lose her baby. I want her to have that baby because that's what she wants. She knows that.

John: I only have this to say to you. If anything happens to Sharlene or that baby, I'm coming after you. I swear it.

Josie: Are you sure you're ok?

Sharlene: I'm ok. I'm fine. I keep telling you that.

Josie: Well, how can you be fine when they won't let you out of here.

Sharlene: Josie, it's just because they're being extra cautious. It's the way they are. You know that.

Josie: I really think I should call the family.

Sharlene: No, Josie, you're not going to call anyone, you understand? I'm fine and the baby is -- is fine. They're probably going to let me out of here just any minute now, ok?

Josie: I hope so. From now on, I'm going to watch over you like a hawk.

Sharlene: Oh, boy. Who's the mother now, hmm?

Josie: God. How did you fall, anyway?

Sharlene: It doesn't really matter, does it? It doesn't. But tell me, how are things out at the farm? Is everything ok?

Josie: Everything's fine. Everything's fine. Oh, Frankie called.

Sharlene: Oh, yeah? What'd she say?

Josie: Do I have a cousin named Dean?

Sharlene: Yes. What did Frankie say?

Josie: Well, she just said that he's going to be staying with her and Cass for a few days.

Sharlene: Dean. I haven't seen him -- I haven't seen him since he was a baby.

Josie: I was on my way over to see him, but then Grant called, so --

Sharlene: Well, I hope I'm out of here in time to see him before he leaves.

Josie: I hope so, too. Oh, oh, the department store called and they're delivering your nursery furniture tomorrow.

Sharlene: Tomorrow?

Josie: Mm-hmm.

Sharlene: Oh, shoot. Honey, I hope I'm going to be there tomorrow.

Josie: Mama, I'll be there.

Sharlene: Would you?

Josie: Yes.

Sharlene: Honey, would you be there, because then I'll tell you exactly where I want them to put everything.

Josie: Ok.

Sharlene: Where I want the crib and the changing table.

Josie: Yeah, you bought a rocking chair, too, didn't you?

Sharlene: Yeah, I bought a rocking chair. Cost a fortune, but I don't care. I want everything to be just right for this child.

John: Carol, is the placenta torn away from the uterine wall?

Carol: I won't know till I hear from radiology.

John: I hate this waiting.

Carol: Look, I don't know if it will do any good, but I'll stop by x-ray, see what I can find out.

John: Thanks. I'll see you in her room in a few minutes.

Carol: Hopefully, I'll have the results.

Sharlene: You said you understood.

John: What I don't understand is why you have one set of rules for me and another set of rules for rant.

Sharlene: I don't, John.

John: I can't see you, but Grant can come by anytime he likes.

Sharlene: That's not true. I told him last night that that was impossible.

John: He was here last night? It was Grant, wasn't it? You going over there later or is he coming here?

Sharlene: Don't do this, John.

Stop badgering me. You don't understand the first thing about Grant and me. Just leave me alone, John. Just leave me alone!

John: You saw Grant yesterday and you didn't say anything to me?

Sharlene: John, it's not always easy to say things to you.

John: Sharlene, what am I? Am I the villain in this piece?

Sharlene: Please, John, don't get mad.

John: I'm sorry, I am not your doctor. I cannot be neutral. I'm your husband! I think I have a right to know if you're seeing him!

Sharlene: I'm not seeing him!

John: So why all the secrecy, Sharlene? There is no need for it, and you don't have Sharly to blame. Sharlene, he set this whole thing up! He is desperate to destroy our marriage!

Sharlene: I don't believe that.

John: Fine.

Sharlene: When I told him that our relationship was over, he told me that he accepted it.

John: That's when you went back to see him? That's why he came back here to see you, because it's over, because he accepted it? You know, I never thought I would say this to you, Sharlene, but I really think that you're enjoying this. I really think that you like having two men fight over you.

Sharlene: That is a lousy thing to say. That is a lousy thing to say! I am not enjoying this! I hate it all! Do you hear me? I hate all of it! I just hate all of it!

Woman: Isn't that adorable? The perfect gift for a little baby.

John: Yeah.

Woman: You're the father, I'll bet. Do you want me to ring it up for you?

Amanda: He didn't speak to you either, did he?

Rachel: It's too soon, Amanda.

Amanda: He's not going to get over this, not completely.

Rachel: His anger will lessen and maybe he'll be willing to try.

Amanda: How do you know that?

Rachel: I don't know it.

Amanda: Last night, Jamie called Sam to tell him about my accident.

Rachel: Mm-hmm?

Amanda: He didn't even ask to speak to me, wasn't concerned at all.

Rachel: Is that what this accident was about, trying to get him to be concerned?

Amanda: No. But don't you think if he was concerned he would have called or stopped by or something?

Rachel: Amanda, he's angry with you.

Amanda: Mom, you're telling me to face the facts and you know it as well as I do. Sam doesn't care about me anymore.

Rachel: What are you going to do?

Amanda: I don't know. But I'm going to make sure that he knows how sorry I am.

Ken: Knock, knock. Oh, sorry, is this a bad time?

Rachel: Uh, Amanda has just gotten home, Ken.

Amanda: It's ok. Hi, Ken.

Ken: Hi.

Amanda: I wanted to thank you for being so understanding last night.

Ken: Oh, sure. You feeling any better?

Amanda: Yeah, much. I'd better get going. I'm supposed to meet Paulina for lunch.

Rachel: Do you feel up to that?

Amanda: Sure. Bye.

Ken: Bye. Amanda and Paulina are getting pretty close, aren't they?

Rachel: Paulina's been very sweet. She felt that Amanda should get out of the house while Sam was here seeing Alli.

Ken: That's very thoughtful.

Rachel: Paulina's working very hard to be part of this family.

Paulina's voice: Well, you just keep your part of the deal and keep your fat mouth closed when it comes to the problem with me being Mac's daughter, all right?

Jake's voice: You mean that you're not? You keep your end of the bargain and I'll keep mine.

Paulina's voice: Good. I will do whatever I want to do.

Ken's voice: You were lucky to get away from him the first time.

Paulina's voice: Yes, I was.

Ken's voice: You let him get his hooks into you, the blackmail will never end.

Paulina: Thank you.

Jake's voice: I want my money in 24 hours. And I'm not jiving with you, little girl. I am serious. I'm dead serious.

Paulina: You're late.

Jake: I had things to do.

Paulina: Amanda's supposed to be meeting me in a few minutes. I want you gone by then.

Jake: Do I look like I want to hang around to you?

Paulina: Good, let's get this over with.

Jake: I'm waiting.

Paulina: This is it, the end.

Jake: Made out to the bearer.

Paulina: Isn't that right?

Jake: There's no way anybody can trace this to me.

Paulina: I did everything exactly the way you said.

Jake: Yeah, you did very good. You did good.

Paulina: Now, you have my money. You can keep your mouth shut, right?

Jake: Yeah.

Paulina: What's wrong, Jake? I thought you'd be overjoyed. This is what you've been working for, this part.

Jake: Have you seen Marley?

Paulina: No, why would I?

Jake: I just thought -- I need to talk to her, that's all.

Paulina: That's funny.

Jake: What's funny?

Paulina: Oh, I thought money was supposed to solve all your problems. Guess you were wrong, huh?

Jake: Shut up.

Olivia: "And now, for the dancing pants doing their fabulous dance. From the seat to the pleat, they will bounce to the beat with no legs inside them and no feet beneath." Isn't that silly? That's pretty silly, don't you think? Ok, "they'll whirl and twirl and jiggle and prance. So just start the music and give them a chance." Well.

Sam: Hello.

Olivia: There we have some popcorn.

Sam:: Go ahead, finish the poem.

Olivia: Ok.

Sam:: Let's listen to the poem.

Olivia: So.

Alli: Choo-choo train.

Sam and Olivia: Yes!

Olivia: "And let's have a big hand for the wonderful, marvelous, super-sensational, uttebulotantpas. And the choo-choo train! Good girl. Ooh, nice.

Sam:: Look what Daddy has, sweetheart -- two jumbo bags of popcorn.

Olivia: Popcorn.

Sam: Here you go, sweetheart. Now, don't spill it there.

Olivia: Whoops!

Sam: Daddy spills it instead. Here we go.

Olivia: That's ok, Alli. You can have mine and I'll share with your Daddy, ok?

Sam: Here you go, sweetheart. Dig in. I'm going to have some, that's for sure.

Alli: I'm going to share with Daddy.

Sam: Have some popcorn.

Olivia: Ok.

Sam: Good girl.

Olivia: Oh, what a doll.

Sam: She's a great kid, isn't she?

Olivia: She's wonderful. She sure loves to be read to.

Sam: Hmm, thanks for going to all the trouble, grabbing the books.

Olivia: On your shoes? I'm sorry, where do you -- put them over here?

Alli: Yeah.

Olivia: It's no problem. I want to buy her all my favorite books.

Sam: I'm a little surprised, Olivia.

Olivia: At what?

Sam: How easy you are with Alli. I mean, I thought you were completely focused on your career that --

Olivia: I didn't have room in my heart for a wonderful little girl like Alli?

Sam: I'm sorry.

Olivia: You should be.

Sam: I guess there are lots of things I don't know about you, huh?

Olivia: Yes, there are.

Sam:: I look forward to the chance to getting to know all of them.

Olivia: So, Alli, is that popcorn good?

Grant: Sharlene. I've been waiting all night to talk to you. I spoke with John.

Sharlene: He told you?

Grant: Yeah, may be something with the baby. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.

Sharlene: Really, I can't talk about this right now.

Donna: Sharlene? Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know you had company.

Sharlene: He was just leaving.

Grant: I'll talk to you later, all right?

Donna: I came as soon as I heard.

Sharlene: Who told you?

Donna: Josie just called a little while ago.

Sharlene: Oh, I asked her not to tell anyone.

Donna: Don't be silly. Of course she should have told me. We're family. Let me just put these right over here. Now, I called Michael and he should be coming over soon as he gets the message. Look how pale you are.

Sharlene: It's just -- I'm just a little tired, that's all.

Donna: I know what you're going through. I fell, too, when I was pregnant.

Sharlene: You lost your --

Donna: Don't think that. That's not going to happen to you. Now, everything's all right. The doctor said it was all right, didn't he?

Sharlene: No. I may have ruined everything.

Donna: How?

Sharlene: I made a terrible mistake last night. I was with Grant at his campaign headquarters when I fell.

Donna: You were?

Sharlene: And now my child may have to be punished for what I did.

Donna: No, don't say that. Don't say that.

Sharlene: Donna, if I could take back last night I would -- I would do it in a second. I would take every moment --

Donna: I'm sure you would. I'm sure you would.

Sharlene: If anything happens to this baby --

Donna: Nothing's going to happen. It was an accident. That's all it was.

Sharlene: But it wouldn't have happened --

Donna: Wouldn't have, shouldn't have. Nobody knows why things happen.

Sharlene: Everything about last night was a mistake, everything, and I can't take it back, no matter how sorry I am. I can never make it right.

Paulina: Why are you so upset about Marley?

Jake: I am not. I don't need your comments about my wife.

Paulina: Fine, I'll never mention --

Jake: I did this for her, you understand me? I did this for Marley.

Paulina: Well, it sounds to me like you're trying to buy her, Jake.

Jake: I'm not trying to buy her. Nobody can buy her.

Paulina: I'm sorry, but you said something about buying her everything that she needed.

Jake: You don't understand. You don't understand a damn thing, do you?

Paulina: No, I do understand. I understand all about blackmail. I understand that you slept with me and then tried to --

Jake: Shut your mouth and listen to me. If me and Marley don't work out, then I've got nothing to lose. There is nothing to stop me from -- I don't have to continue lying. I'll blow you out of the water, Paulina.

Paulina: If you and Marley --

Jake: I will shoot you down just for fun, just because I'm the bad guy.

Paulina: I did everything you wanted.

Jake: I have to go now.

Paulina: Jake --

Jake: I have a lot to do.

Paulina: You said this would be the end.

Jake: You have a nice lunch.

Amanda: Jake.

Jake looked like he was giving you a hard time. What's going on?

Sharlene: See there? What do they know? What do they know? You do that again, little one.

[Laughs] What are you? A little boy, little girl? Doesn't really matter. You've got a great sister. And your room's set up. You've got to see your room. I went all out. I really did.

Would you please forgive me? I've been a little confused lately, but I'm really there for you, ok? I promise.

Sharlene: John.

John: Hi. Looks like I'm not the first one to think of this.

Sharlene: They're from Donna.

John: She was here?

Sharlene: Did you hear anything, the test results yet?

John: No, not yet.

Sharlene: Well, John, when are we going to know? When are we going to know that the baby's all right?

John: Now.

Sharlene: Doctor... the baby's going to be all right, isn't it?

Rachel: Well, thank you for the walk and thank you for talking with Amanda last night.

Ken: Oh, I'm very fond of Amanda. She's a lot like you.

Rachel: She's learning a rough lesson right now. It's not easy learning that someone you love has deceived you.

Ken: I think Evan must have loved her very much.

Rachel: Why do you say that?

Ken: He went to such great lengths to be with her.

Rachel: Or maybe it was just a challenge. Doesn't matter what it was. It doesn't excuse what he did.

Ken: Oh, you're right, it doesn't.

Rachel: I mean, he ruined an innocent man's happiness.

Ken: I'm not trying to excuse Evan.

Rachel: Sorry, I guess this conversation is in danger of becoming serious.

Ken: No, I'm sorry.

Rachel: No, it's my fault. I brought it up.

Ken: Well, let's find something frivolous to talk about then.

Rachel: How did it go at the bank? Did you get your financing?

Ken: Are you characterizing my dive and my dealings with the bank as frivolous?

Rachel: No, I had a great time out at the lake.

Ken: A serious time.

Rachel: Yes, very serious.

Ken: Yes. Unfortunately, the bank isn't taking it seriously enough. They said they'll get back to me, but I expect to be turned down.

Rachel: Oh.

Ken: Oh, not to worry, there's other banks. The dive will survive. Ooh, I love it when I wax poetic.

Rachel: How about coming to dinner tomorrow night?

Ken: Just you and me, nice and quiet?

Rachel: Actually, I was -- I was thinking of a large family dinner. I think it would help Amanda.

Ken: I'll be there.

Rachel: Also, Paulina is very eager to wear a new dress that she bought with the money I loaned her.

Ken: You loaned Paulina money? I thought her inheritance was about to come through.

Rachel: Oh, it did, just today.

Ken: Oh.

Rachel: But she needed some money to tide her over.

Ken: Oh.

Rachel: Yeah, she had some debts, apparently, to cover, a few thousand.

Ken: Well, it was nice of you to loan her the money.

Rachel: Oh, well.

Ken: When was that, anyway?

Rachel: The night of the party.

Amanda: So, Jake looked pretty angry. What was that all about?

Paulina: Who knows? You know Jake. He's always mad about something.

Amanda: Well, I hope you were giving him a hard time back.

Paulina: I really don't want to talk about him, ok?

Amanda: Ok.

Paulina: So, tell me about Sam. You saw him this morning. How'd it go?

Amanda: Yeah, um, why don't we change the subject again?

Paulina: Oh, Amanda, I hate seeing you this hurt.

Amanda: Yeah, I know you do. You've been really good to me. Which is why I hope I can repay the favor.

Paulina: Favor? What are you talking about?

Amanda: I know that you don't want to talk about Jake, but it's no secret that he really messed with your heart.

Paulina: He tried to.

Amanda: Well, you should be interested in learning that he is getting just what he deserves.

Paulina: What do you mean?

Amanda: Last night, I overheard Marley talking to Jamie.

Paulina: Yeah?

Amanda: It sounds like she has decided to definitely leave Jake.

Paulina: No. Oh, no.
