Rachel: It was -- it was exhilarating.

Ken: It was cold is what it was, Rachel.

Rachel: Oh, only out in the air. In the water, it was --

Rachel and Ken: Wet.

Rachel: But it was wonderful. It was particularly nice to do something together for a change.

Ken: Yeah. It would've been a hell a lot more wonderful if the dive team had come up with some of the gold.

Rachel: Oh, I didn't care about that. It was just nice to be together.

Ken: I was kind of crazy about the arrangement myself.

Rachel: Were you really?

Ken: I was.

Rachel: Oh, good.

Iris: Well, well, well, look who's back -- our intrepid leader with her equally intrepid companion.

Rachel: I really don't want to fight, Iris.

Iris: First, you welcome an imposter into the family, then you run off with the man who masterminded the whole scheme --

Rachel: Go easy, Iris.

Iris: Disappearing for days without any thought to your responsibilities.

Rachel: Do you get the feeling she's not going to go easy?

Ken: I get that feeling.

Rachel: Mm.

Iris: Quite frankly, Rachel, I'm beginning to doubt your competence in running the Cory company or the Cory family.

Sam: Letter from Mitch?

Felicia: Hi, honey.

Sam: How are you?

Felicia: Good. Yes, it came this morning.

Sam: How is he?

Felicia: Good, he sounds good.

Sam: I think he's gonna be a whole lot better when you get there. When do you leave?

Felicia: Right after our celebration.

Sam: You fly into Nairobi, is that it?

Felicia: Well, I'll end up there eventually. I'll probably do nothing but sleep once I get there.

Sam: I don't think so.

Felicia: You know, he's going to be so thrilled about your news. He always believed in your innocence.

Sam: Well, my brother was always a very loyal guy.

Felicia: Right. Listen, can I ask you something?

Sam: Sure.

Felicia: I mean, this may sound a little insensitive, but I know it's the first thing Mitch is going to ask me. I mean, now that it's all over and hopefully some of the anger has worn off, do you think there's any chance that you and Amanda could get back together again?

Amanda: He's my husband. All I'm asking for is five minutes of his time, that's it.

Jamie: And I just think that --

Amanda: What? Say it.

Jamie: I think that's asking a lot right now.

Amanda: Jamie, I know what Sam has been going through. And I know that an apology is not gonna be able to take away all that pain, but if he doesn't talk to me -- if he doesn't even listen to me, how am I gonna get through to him at all?

Jamie: Amanda, maybe if you give him a couple of weeks to sort things out.

[Phone rings]

Paulina: Hi.

Jamie: Excuse me. Paulina, hi.

Paulina: Am I interrupting?

Amanda: No, it's ok.

Jamie: Hello. No, it isn't. Look, I can't talk now, Marley. What do you mean? What did you find out about Jake?

Jamie: You need to talk to Paulina?

Paulina: [Whispering] I'm not here.

Jamie: That's not possible. No, I understand it's urgent, but she's not home right now. Fine, I'll have her call you as soon as she gets in. Right. Bye, Marley. Why wouldn't you talk to her?

Paulina: [Normal voice] Because I saw her yesterday and we had a long talk and there's -- there's really nothing to say.

Jamie: But she said that --

Paulina: Amanda, I thought you might want to know, I just came from Tops and I saw Sam there.

Amanda: You did?

Paulina: Yes.

Amanda: He must have gone to talk to Felicia.

Paulina: I don't know.

Amanda: Thanks, Paulina. This is a big help.

Jamie: Amanda, wait, wait, wait.

Amanda: I have to go talk to him, Jamie.

Jamie: I don't think you're gonna get what you want if you just go barging in there.

Amanda: I don't care. I can't sleep. I can't eat. I can't breathe. I have to at least try to undo what I've done. I have to try.

Paulina: Poor Amanda.

Jamie: You're not going anywhere, not until we talk about Marley.

Sam: Of course I still have feelings for Amanda.

Felicia: And there is Alli to consider.

Sam: But after what she did, I -- I don't know, Felicia. I just don't know.

Felicia: Honey, I do understand.

Sam: She actually thought I was gonna try and kill her. Evan had her convinced that I was going to murder her in cold blood and she bought it. I just don't know if I can ever forget that.

Felicia: I don't think you will forget it, but I don't think that you can hold Amanda entirely responsible.

Sam: No, I don't. I know that Evan set her up, but she bought it all the way.

Felicia: I understand the power of fiction. And believe me, Evan was a master at it.

Sam: Yeah, she felt guilty for having slept with Evan, I know that. Maybe that's why she needed to make me out to be the bad guy because it helped ease her conscience. I don't know.

Felicia: Evan, I believe, made Amanda doubt the reality of her own experience. It was like -- it was like he put a hypnotic spell on her.

Sam: I know exactly the power he had over her. This is the other thing, I -- I can tell you this, Felicia. It's like every time I think of Amanda, I see her in bed with Evan and I get this rage. And, my God, I -- [Sighs] You can understand that, can't you?

Felicia: Yeah, I do understand. I remember when Mitch finally admitted his feelings for Rachel. Lord, I wanted to break everything.

Sam: But see, even that was different from my situation because he didn't act on those feelings.

Felicia: Yes, but I understood it, and I do know what that rage is about.

Sam: You got past it though, right?

Felicia: I -- I accepted it. I had to. I had to move on. Mitch and I had to work out our problems.

Sam: Did you?

Felicia: What do you mean by that?

Sam: It still seems like Lucas is in the picture.

Felicia: Honey, Luke is a very dear, old friend. You know that, Sam.

Sam: I know, I know. But it seems that even little, small lies and betrayals can weaken a marriage. And it opens up doors for new attachments, other feelings, and old friends.

Felicia: Wow, I've never seen Olivia look more beautiful.

Olivia: Hi.

Sam: Hi.

Olivia: Thank you for including me tonight, Felicia.

Felicia: Oh.

Olivia: It means more to me than I can say.

Rachel: First of all, Iris, I wasn't gone for days. I was only gone for one day.

Iris: One day?

Rachel: Yes. And I let the office know where I was going and when I would return. And I've come back exactly when I told them I would.

Iris: Did it ever occur to you that this company might need a full-time CEO?

Rachel: Are you still suffering from a hangover, Iris?

Iris: No, but I am suffering from doing two jobs and working 16 hours a day.

Rachel: And we're very indebted to you.

Iris: One of the things I've always loved about you, Rachel, is your sarcasm. It's one of the warmer things.

Ken: Come on, Iris. This is my fault. If you want to have a crack --

Iris: Here. If you could possibly tear yourself away from your lover for a few minutes, you might look at these.

Rachel: What is this?

Iris: They are what keeps this company going. And they do need immediate attention.

Rachel: [Chuckles] Sorry about Iris.

Ken: I'm beginning to think Iris doesn't like me.

Rachel: Oh, she's in one of her moods. It's best to ignore her.

Ken: That's not always easy to do.

Rachel: It's best to try.

Ken: She made some pretty heavy accusations the other night against Paulina and me. Obviously, she doesn't intend to back down.

Rachel: Iris thinks she'll get what she wants if she just says it.

Ken: She's furious with you for defending us.

Rachel: Iris has been furious with me as long as I've known her.

Ken: But what if she thinks she really does have something on you, can you just ignore it?

Rachel: Iris can't hurt me anymore. She's hurting. She's not happy with her private life, and so she wants everybody else's life to be as miserable. Don't give it another thought.

Rachel: Look at this desk.

Ken: What? What's the matter with it?

Rachel: This represents days of work.

Ken: Ah, yes, it does look rather intimidating.

Rachel: You know what I ought to do?

Ken: What?

Rachel: I ought to just dump this all on Iris, because she'll just take the credit for doing it anyway.

Ken: I dare you.

Rachel: Mm.

Ken: I dare you.

Rachel: I'm afraid this is gonna take a few hours.

Ken: All right. I got things to do, too. How about dinner later?

Rachel: Great. Oh, could it be at the house?

Ken: Oh, sure. Sure, I was gonna stop by and see Paulina, anyway. We didn't get much of chance to talk the other night.

Rachel: Oh, she'd love to see you. She always loves to see you. Interesting, isn't it?

Ken: What?

Rachel: You and Paulina. It's as though she's adopted you, made you into a surrogate father. See you later.

Bridget: [Singing] We'll never meet again on the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond --

Marley: Hello, Bridget.

Bridget: Miss Marley, is that you?

Marley: Uh-huh.

Bridget: What are you doing here in the dark, alone, all by yourself, hmm?

Marley: What are you doing here?

Bridget: Oh, well, Miss Donna asked me if I would come over and teach Angela how to make a proper cup of tea. [Chuckles] But I'm late -- I'm an hour late because I went to the films and I saw -- I saw Clint Eastwood. My, isn't he grand? I mean, he's so tall and wonderful. And, ah, well, I enjoyed it so much, I saw the first half of it all over again.

Marley: How nice.

Bridget: Are you sure you are all right, dear?

Marley: Oh, I'm -- I'm sitting here asking myself the same question.

Bridget: Oh. What you need is a nice cuppa.

Marley: No, I -- I don't need tea, thank you.

Bridget: Mm. Well, you know, you have been looking a bit peaked lately. Are you eating the proper food?

Marley: Yes.

Bridget: I know the adverts always say that thin is better but, you know, you can over do it.

Marley: I am glad you're here, Bridget. It's been such a long time since we've talked. Actually, I don't think we've ever talked.

Bridget: Haven't we?

Marley: You've always been closer to Vicky.

Bridget: Well, I raised her.

Marley: I -- I know, and she was very lucky to have had you. I wasn't really raised by anyone. I was kind of sent off to boarding school and grew.

Bridget: Well, you grew into a lovely woman, I can say that.

Marley: A naive woman. Do you agree?

Bridget: Well, what did you want to talk to me about, dear, hmm?

Marley: Jake.

Bridget: But I don't think I can tell you anything about Jake that you don't already know --

Marley: Bridget, you practically raised him. You know him better than anyone.

Bridget: Yes, I used to.

Marley: He's not the same person?

Bridget: I'm not sure I -- I don't know the answer to that -- what you mean by that question.

Marley: It's -- it's just that I have reason to believe that, um, Jake is seeing another woman -- or a couple of other women. And he wants me out of the picture so he can be with them.

Bridget: Well, you are engaged to be married, aren't you?

Marley: Yes.

Bridget: Well, then you should know the answer to these questions.

Marley: Bridget, I thought I did know him, but I think there's a part of Jake that I could never touch.

Bridget: Can you live with that?

Marley: I'm so sorry, I don't understand.

Bridget: No, don't. No, don't -- don't say "I'm sorry." That's the problem.

Marley: What's the problem? What do you mean?

Bridget: No, um --

Marley: Bridget --

Bridget: I talk too much --

Marley: This is very important to me. Please, be level with me.

Bridget: Very well, then. You're always saying, "I'm sorry." You're always apologizing. You sit back and you wait for things to happen. You never go out and -- you make things happen for yourself.

Marley: Such as?

Bridget: Well, you say you want to talk to me about Jake, and then you tell me you have doubts about him. But you never go to Jake and face him with these doubts. You prefer to be a -- to be a victim.

Marley: A victim? Is that how you see me?

Bridget: My dear, you're a beautiful young woman. And you have the young men -- they're all drawn to you. You have such a rare and special quality.

Marley: Bridget, please, don't avoid the subject. To hell with my feelings, just -- just tell me what you think.

Bridget: You sound like Victoria.

Marley: Is that my problem -- I'm not enough like Victoria? And if I was Vicky, I would go to Jake and I would confront him with this?

Bridget: I can't answer for Victoria and I won't answer for her. But, my dear, if you do want something, you go and get it. Don't you have other people doing it for you, dear.

Marley: I think I have always been so concerned with doing the right thing that I end up doing nothing. Thank you for your honesty. I really appreciate it.

Jamie: Why are you so nervous?

Paulina: I'm not nervous.

Jamie: It's about Jake, isn't it? That's why Marley wanted to talk to you on the phone.

Paulina: Look, Jamie, I -- I just don't want to talk about this, ok?

Jamie: Isn't it?

Paulina: Rachel told Marley something.

Jamie: She told her that you thought that Jake was going to ask you to marry him. That's true, isn't it?

Paulina: I really don't like being cross-examined.

Jamie: Paulina, that's true.

Paulina: Yes, it's true that Rachel told Marley -- Rachel, she misunderstood, all right? It's nothing, so just drop it. It's nothing for Marley or anyone else to get worked up about, believe me.

Jamie: I don't believe that.

Paulina: Well, then that's your problem.

Jamie: I saw that kiss between you and Jake.

Paulina: One lousy kiss.

Jamie: And I saw how upset you were when Jake and Marley announced their engagement.

Paulina: I wasn't upset.

Jamie: And how Jake wouldn't leave you alone at the party?

Paulina: He was bothering a lot of people. He had too much to drink, remember?

Jamie: Look, Paulina, I know you have your reasons for wanting to keep all of this --

Paulina: I'm not keeping --

Jamie: And you don't have to tell me anything. I promise I won't ever ask you again.

Paulina: There is nothing to tell, all right?

Jamie: But I want you to be straight with Marley. Look, she would never hurt you or anyone. She is a wonderful, honest person. And she is about to marry Jake McKinnon. Paulina, if there is anything that you know that might come out later and hurt her, please, tell her now before it's too late.

Sam: Felicia, this is great.

Olivia: Delicious.

Felicia: Well, I will give your compliments to my chef. On second thought, maybe I shouldn't. Every time I do, he asks for a raise and I give it to him.

[Laughter]

Sam: Mm, a toast.

Felicia: Ok.

Sam: A toast to the only two people who believed in me. Thank you for being there.

Felicia: You're welcome.

Olivia: Thank you for letting us be your friends.

Sam: Mm. You know, when I left this town, I wasn't sure I was ever going to be coming back.

Felicia: Why did you come back?

Sam: I got my head straightened out. I realized Alli was the most important person in my life. And I knew I had the support of you two. If I hadn't had that, I don't know what I would have done.

Olivia: Sam, friendship is a two-way street. You've been there for me, too.

Felicia: The fact is, I think we're lucky to have each other. The give and the take -- that really is what it's about.

Sam: Yeah. You know the other thing I was thinking about?

Felicia: What?

Sam: How incredibly fragile life is.

Felicia: Yes, I know what you mean.

Sam: A year ago, I had a wife who loved me, a child -- beautiful child. My paintings were getting recognition. And then Evan Bates discovered Amanda.

Olivia: Sam, it's over now. Everything is going to be great from now on.

Sam: Yeah.

Felicia: Olivia is right, you know. So, to the new and wonderful life.

Sam: Yes. The future -- that is all I'm going to think about from now on.

Olivia: Cheers.

Amanda: Hi.

Felicia: Hi, Amanda.

Amanda: Sam, can I speak to you alone? It'll just take a minute.

Sam: Where was my minute, Amanda? When did you give me time to explain?

Amanda: Sam, please.

Sam: I'm here with my friends, people who believed in me. Why would I want to give you any time right now?

Paulina: I know how much you care for Marley.

Jamie: Paulina, this is nothing about that.

Paulina: But I can't help you.

Jamie: You mean you won't. For some reason, you won't. I know that there was tension between you and Jake when you were dancing. I know something is going on between the two of you. That's why he was here the other night.

[Doorbell chimes]

Paulina: Someone better get the door.

Jamie: We're not finished.

Ken, you're back.

Ken: Yeah, got in about an hour ago, thanks.

Paulina: Hello, Ken.

Ken: Paulina.

Jamie: Where's my Mom?

Ken: Uh, she's at the office. I'm sure she's going to be calling in.

Jamie: I'd better go talk to her. I have some news I want to tell her about.

Ken: Ok.

Jamie: I'll talk to you later, Paulina.

Paulina: Sure.

Ken: What was that all about?

Paulina: Nothing I can't handle. What are you doing back here?

Ken: I missed you, too.

Paulina: How did you know Rachel was at the office?

Ken: Because I dropped her off there.

Paulina: I thought you weren't gonna see her anymore, that you couldn't bear living with this lie.

Ken: Well, I wanted to. And I tried, but Rachel came looking for me. And I began to wonder, why should I give up the best thing that ever happened to me?

Paulina: Huh, well, I wondered how long this noble streak would last -- it didn't seem quite in character.

Ken: I thought you were gonna put the past behind you and just, uh, just enjoy being Paulina Cory.

Paulina: That's very funny.

Ken: What's happened here? Jamie giving you a hard time?

Paulina: He thinks something went on between Jake and I, and he's worried about Marley.

Ken: Well, I don't blame him. Jake's as low as they come.

Paulina: Yeah, well, you should know.

Ken: Has Jake been after you for money again?

Paulina: No, he's dropped the blackmail thing.

Ken: Why would he do that?

Paulina: I don't know. Why don't you just stay out of it, ok? I'm doing fine without you.

Ken: Well, I'm back. And I'm willing to play this your way, if only to make sure that nobody else gets hurt.

Paulina: What about the people that have already been hurt?

Ken: I'm sorry. But remember what you said -- you could be Mac's daughter. That's still the truth. Rachel had every opportunity to find out otherwise. She didn't.

Paulina: So let's just leave it at that, right?

Ken: I thought that's what you wanted to do.

Paulina: What about Iris? She hurt us.

Ken: Iris was bombed. Rachel clearly doesn't believe a word Iris says. Now, are you gonna put the past behind you and move on or not?

Iris: You wanted to see me?

Rachel: Sit down, Iris.

Iris: If this is another one of your lectures, Rachel, I --

Rachel: This won't take long, Iris.

Iris: Fine, then get to the point.

Rachel: You were rather rude to us when we came in earlier.

Iris: Uh-huh.

Rachel: Ken is part of my life now, Iris. I can't allow you to be as rude to him as you were at the party the other night.

Iris: Rachel, I have already admitted that I had too much to drink. But I know what I heard.

Rachel: Isn't that what you wanted to hear?

Iris: Yes, but it doesn't change the fact that Paulina said with total clarity that she and Ken were the only ones who knew that she was not Daddy's daughter.

Rachel: Yes, you told me.

Iris: Then, why on earth can't you consider the truth? Have you totally lost touch with reality?

Rachel: You're obsessed with getting rid of Paulina, and that's not gonna happen, Iris.

Iris: Oh, God, Ken is playing you like a puppeteer.

Rachel: She has been accepted into this family, Iris, and you might as well get used to that.

Iris: I am so tired of hearing you say that! I suppose accepting Paulina into the family does help ease your conscience -- if you have one.

Rachel: My conscience is perfectly clear.

Iris: How on earth can you think of replacing my father with a weasel like Ken Jordan?

Rachel: My feelings for Ken have nothing to do with you, Iris. They are none of your business. And as far as being out of touch with reality, I think I've got a pretty good grasp on what matters.

Iris: Good. Uh -- in that case, I guess Amanda doesn't matter.

Rachel: What about Amanda?

Iris: Oh, you haven't heard, have you?

Rachel: Heard what?

Iris: About Sam.

Rachel: What about Sam?

Iris: Sam has completely cleared his name. He's proved that Evan set him up and he sent him off packing. Looks like your little daughter Amanda is a bit of a fool, isn't it? Perhaps you better go and check on her. I think maybe that she is losing touch with reality, just like you are.

Amanda: Sam, I know I deserve everything that you're about to say. But we have a child together. For Alli's sake, can you just speak to me for a minute?

Sam: Excuse me. This will be very short, I promise.

Olivia: Terrific. She just waltzes right in here and ruins everything.

Felicia: Olivia, her whole life is upside down right now.

Olivia: But that's not Sam's problem anymore. Why doesn't she just leave him alone?

Felicia: They have a history together. Nothing can make that just disappear.

Olivia: But he doesn't want to talk to her, and she won't even listen to him.

Felicia: Can't you try to understand what she's going through?

Olivia: Why?

Felicia: She's just been dealt an enormous blow.

Olivia: Which she deserved.

Felicia: Oh, come on, Olivia. Nobody deserves what she's going through.

Olivia: But look what she put Sam through.

Felicia: Honey, Sam and Amanda were married. Now, I don't expect you to understand all that that means, but I do. Sam cannot erase Amanda from his life.

Olivia: Well, he's never going back to her.

Felicia: Olivia.

Olivia: Oh, no. You're going to give me advice, aren't you? Ok, let me try and guess what you're going to say. You're going to say that a man going through what Sam is going through right now isn't a very good bet for a relationship.

Felicia: Yeah, yeah, that's about what I was going to say, except I was going to be a whole lot more emphatic. I was going to say a "terrible" bet.

Olivia: Well, I just want to be his friend.

Felicia: Olivia, let me give you a little more advice. I think this is the time for you and Sam to be totally honest with yourselves and each other.

Sam: Your minute's almost up, and so far, you haven't said anything new.

Amanda: Sam, please.

Sam: Time's running out.

Amanda: This is hard.

Sam: Not hard enough.

Amanda: I know that saying I'm sorry for all the pain that I put you through, it sounds pathetic. It does even to me. But I have to say it. I loved you once with all my heart. And I don't know why -- maybe because I'm weak, because I'm self-destructive -- but I allowed someone to come into my life and destroy that love and everything else precious in my life that went along with it. If I could take it all back --

Sam: You can't take it back. You can't take any of it back. You got what you wanted. You chose to listen to Evan. You chose to believe him. You chose to sleep with him. You chose to entrust our daughter's future with him -- your choice.

Amanda: And I hate myself for it.

Sam: You destroyed our marriage.

Amanda: Don't say that.

Sam: It doesn't make a difference whether I say it or not, it's true.

Amanda: The divorce papers aren't final, yet.

Sam: That's a minor technicality.

Amanda: We can hold them off. We can hold them off for as long as you like.

Sam: For as long as I'd like?

Amanda: The divorce was based on a lie, Sam. That's why -- maybe we should look things through, understand what we're doing before -- before we end it. Why are you looking at me like that?

Sam: You actually think we have a chance, don't you?

Amanda: I'd like to think so, for Alli's sake.

Sam: Don't you make our daughter a bargaining chip with this.

Amanda: We have to think about her, don't we?

Sam: I always thought about her. Did you think about her when you were sleeping with Evan? Did you think about her when you were accusing me of being a murderer?

Amanda: Go ahead, yell all you want.

Sam: You know, forget it. Forget it.

Amanda: You don't even hear what I was going to say.

Sam: Sure I do. You want me to put this all behind us. You want me to be understanding, compassionate. That's not gonna happen, Amanda. Forget about it. You see, because beside you being Alli's mother, I don't want to have anything to do with you ever again.

Amanda: I thought you were more forgiving than that.

Sam: I forgave you once, Amanda, and it was a near fatal mistake. I'm not about to make that mistake again. It's over.

Amanda: I guess this is good-bye.

Olivia: Well, it's about time.

Sam: I apologize for the interruption.

Olivia: Are you ok?

Sam: Yeah, I'm fine. Ah, what is this we have?

Felicia: This is the infamous double-chocolate mousse cake. Yes, I know it's your favorite.

Sam: Mm-mm, looks great.

Felicia: Unfortunately, it's my favorite, too. And of course no one twisted my arm to get a piece for myself.

Sam: Mm-mm! Forget the calories, Felicia, this is wonderful.

Felicia: I know, I know. I know it is. But you know what? I'm not gonna finish the rest. I'm going to be a good girl. So, what's next for you, Sam?

Sam: I am very anxious to begin painting again.

Olivia: Sam's working on a new series.

Felicia: Really?

Sam: And guess who my new inspiration is?

Olivia: Well, Sam's using me as model in a dance series.

Felicia: Really? Well, it worked for Degas.

Sam: You know, that's the scary part, actually -- trying to do dance without making it look like Degas.

Felicia: I imagine that's pretty difficult, yeah.

Sam: I'm excited, though. I've got a new approach because I watched Olivia's audition, and it was just great.

Felicia: How did it go?

Olivia: Oh, well, it --

Sam: This girl is gonna be a star. She's got charisma. She's got talent. She's got it all. Forget about it.

Felicia: I'm sure she does.

Olivia: Will you two knock it off? I'm getting embarrassed.

Sam: Let's raise our coffee cups, shall we?

Felicia: Ok.

Sam: Please?

Olivia: Another toast?

Sam: Yes, another toast. Is there a rule against having more than one toast in one night?

Felicia: Absolutely not.

Sam: I didn't think so.

Olivia: I guess not.

Sam: To Olivia's success in the Manhattan Ballet.

Felicia: Here, here.

Olivia: Thank you.

Sam: [Sighs] Life is looking pretty damn good right now.

Jamie: Mom, I wanted --

Iris: Oh, no, thank heavens.

Jamie: Iris.

Iris: Hello, Jamie.

Jamie: Where's my mother?

Iris: She's off finding Amanda.

Jamie: Well, then, I'm too late.

Iris: Well, you missed her if that's what you mean.

Jamie: I'll catch her at home.

Iris: Jamie, uh, could we -- could we talk for a minute, please?

Jamie: About?

Iris: About your mother. I'm very concerned about Rachel.

Jamie: Why?

Iris: Because ever since -- ever since Ken Jordan came into her life, she hasn't been behaving like herself.

Jamie: What's different about her, Iris?

Iris: Well, apart from the fact that she's neglecting her job -- which is all right because I can cover for her -- I think she's also neglecting her family, don't you?

Jamie: No, actually, I haven't noticed that.

Iris: Oh, come on, Jamie. Poor Amanda's been going through hell. Rachel's been nowhere to be found.

Jamie: Iris, Mom couldn't have anticipated that.

Iris: Well, that's true but --

Jamie: Look, Iris, Mom was out enjoying herself for a change. We can't expect her to be psychic.

Iris: Amanda's been going through this for weeks. I don't think she would have taken up with Evan in the first place if Rachel hadn't been off finding herself.

Jamie: You don't know that, ok? Besides, Mom has a right to a life of her own.

Iris: But not at the expense of the family.

Jamie: Iris, we're all grownups. We'll survive.

Iris: I certainly hope so. I don't think we can stand any more of these lapses in judgment, Jamie.

Jamie: We're back to Paulina again, aren't we?

Iris: Yeah. You know, Jamie, I -- I know you didn't agree with Rachel's decision, either. You made that very clear at the party before the announcement. Look, she didn't listen to you any more than she listened to me. Help me, please. I saw you watching Paulina. She is a liar and she is a fraud. I know that and so do you. We both know that she's hiding something.

Paulina: Well, this is very interesting, Ken.

Ken: What is?

Paulina: All of a sudden, you keep saying I might be Mac's daughter.

Ken: I don't "keep" saying.

Paulina: Would get you off the hook with Rachel, wouldn't it? But then we'll never know, will we? Or is there more you haven't told me?

Ken: No.

Paulina: Well, then maybe I should go back to Jake, you know, get him to do a little bit more research for us.

Ken: That's a joke, right? You wouldn't really go near that guy.

Paulina: I will do whatever I want to do.

Ken: You were lucky to get away from him the first time.

Paulina: Yes, I was.

Ken: You let him get his hooks into you, the blackmail will never stop.

Paulina: What do you care?

Ken: I care.

Paulina: I have a hair appointment.

Ken: Paulina -- Paulina, wait a minute. Look, I know you feel I used you.

Paulina: I don't "feel" it, you did use me.

Ken: All right, but I never meant to hurt you. It's not a bad life you're leading either, is it?

Ken: Hello, Amanda.

Ken: What's happened?

Amanda: I wish my father were here. He'd know what to say. He'd know what to tell me to do.

Woman: That tripod, I cannot use it.

Mitch: That's ok, Dominique.

Dominique: There's a screw missing, I think.

Mitch: That's all right. I'll -- I'll look at it.

Dominique: Have you heard from her?

Mitch: Who? Felicia?

Dominique: Is she coming?

Mitch: I don't know.

Dominique: I thought she wanted to talk to you.

Mitch: That's what she said. But I don't know that I'm ready for this, Dominique.

Felicia: That's it, that's it. Please take this from me, will you, please?

Olivia: Oh, go on, eat it. You're not going to get anything good on the plane.

Felicia: Yeah. The plane. Oh, my God, what time is it?

Sam: 6:30 -- you got to get out of here.

Felicia: I don't believe this. I'm gonna miss my flight.

Olivia: But it doesn't leave for two hours.

Felicia: No, I know. It just takes me a long time to get organized. All right, I'm out of here, you two.

Olivia: Listen, is Mitch meeting you?

Felicia: Actually, he doesn't know that I booked this flight. I -- I thought I'd surprise him.

Olivia: Oh, well, he'll be thrilled.

Felicia: Yeah, I hope so.

Olivia: Oh, come on. You're going to have a wonderful, wonderful time.

Felicia: Yes, I'm sure I will. It will be an adventure. All right, take care, bye-bye.

Sam: Let me walk you to the elevator. Olivia, I'll be right back, ok?

Olivia: Sure.

Sam: Hmm?

[Felicia sighs]

Sam: You're scared, aren't you?

Felicia: I just -- I just don't know what's going to happen.

Sam: You're gonna work through everything fine. I know you will.

Felicia: I have to make a decision. I mean, Mitch and I both do.

Sam: Felicia --

Felicia: I know what you're going to say. I know you want Mitch and I to stay together.

Sam: You two are so good for each other.

Felicia: I don't know, are we?

Sam: Look, I know he hurt you and I know things haven't been always perfect, but --

Felicia: I didn't expect them to be perfect.

Sam: I just want you to remember how rare a good marriage is.

Felicia: I do.

Sam: Ok, look, you give Mitch my best and you go and you have an incredible time there, ok?

Felicia: I'll try.

Sam: Ok.

Felicia: And you, too.

Sam: Mm-hmm.

Felicia: You have a good time, ok? I want to only hear that Sam Fowler is enjoying himself. No more misery, you got that?

Sam: I got it.

Felicia: Ok.

Sam: Go on your way. You have a great time.

Felicia: Thanks, hon.

Sam: Bye-bye.

Sam: Boy, does she have a long flight ahead of her.

Olivia: Yeah, but Nairobi -- I envy her.

Sam: Yeah. You know, I am really glad you came tonight.

Olivia: Well, would I be anywhere else? It's been fun.

Sam: It doesn't have to be over, does it?

Olivia: No, no, it doesn't.

Sam: I mean, if you're free for the rest of the evening, we could -- are you free?

Olivia: Yes, of course. I'm free, yeah.

Sam: Great. Great.

Amanda: How could I have been taken like that?

Ken: You believed Evan loved you.

Amanda: But it was a lie right from the very beginning.

Ken: No.

Amanda: What do you mean, no?

Ken: I think Evan probably really did love you. And he wanted you so much, he couldn't risk losing you.

Amanda: You sound like you're making excuses for him.

Ken: No, no, no, I don't mean to be making excuses for him. Maybe -- maybe I just understand him.

Amanda: I don't care if you do think that he loved me. He used me and he nearly destroyed Sam's life. How am I ever gonna trust anybody again? How am I ever gonna trust myself again?

Ken: Oh, you will in time.

Amanda: I don't know how.

Ken: Your friends, your family, the people who love you in a -- in a purer way than Evan did, they'll still be here.

Amanda: I don't know why they should, not after what I've done.

Ken: Amanda --

Amanda: I mean, look at Mom. What's Mom gonna think?

Ken: I'm sure she'll understand.

Amanda: No, she's not. She's not gonna understand. I can't face her.

Ken: Wait a minute -- Amanda!

Jamie: No matter what my private feelings are about Paulina --

Iris: And what are your feelings, Jamie? Why are you holding them in?

Jamie: Because it doesn't make a difference, Iris.

Iris: Well, maybe if you told Rachel, it would.

Jamie: Listen, Mom has already made up her mind.

Iris: Well, she can jolly well unmake it.

Jamie: Mom trusts both Ken and Paulina, and I have to abide by that.

Iris: Jamie, I do not know why you are giving in to Rachel on this.

Jamie: Because it's her call.

Iris: Even if we have proof?

Jamie: Mom doesn't believe it.

Iris: But you do. I know you do. Why can't Rachel be wrong just for once? You are the eldest and have --

[Intercom buzzes]

Iris: Responsibilities. Yes, hello? Oh, yes, please, show her in. Well, this might shed some light on our situation. Marley, hello, do come in.

Marley: Hello, Iris, Jamie.

Jamie: Marley.

Marley: Is Rachel here?

Iris: No -- no, she's not. Jamie and I have just been having the most interesting conversation about Paulina.

Marley: Oh, how nice.

Iris: Mm-hmm. Oh, but I'm sure you're not here to hear about that.

Marley: No, actually, I'm not.

Iris: Well, what can I do for you?

Marley: I just wanted to find out about the work that Jake had done for "Brava."

Iris: Well, I'll be delighted to tell you. Jake did a few small jobs for "Brava," but that was a long, long time ago.

Marley: You must be mistaken.

Iris: No, Marley, I'm not mistaken. I told you that at the gallery.

Marley: Yes, I know that, uh, but he --

Iris: The money? You're wondering where Jake's been getting the money. So have I. Do you think it's possible that Jake's been lying to all of us?

Rachel: Amanda? Amanda?

Ken: She's not here, Rachel.

Rachel: Something terrible has happened.

Ken: Yes, I know -- about Evan and Sam. Amanda told me.

Rachel: Where did she go?

Ken: I have no idea. She just took off in the car. She's in pretty bad shape.

Rachel: Oh, I should have been here.

Ken: I don't know if it's gonna make you feel any better or not, but I don't really think Amanda was ready to see you.

Rachel: Why not?

Ken: Well, she feels responsible for this whole thing. She feels like she let herself be duped. She's carrying around a tremendous amount of guilt.

Rachel: Evan has been trouble from the start. I should have stopped him.

Ken: How? She's a grown woman.

Rachel: I'm still her mother. Well, I'm glad she was able to talk to you.

Ken: I don't know how much good I did.

Rachel: Where do you think she went?

Ken: I have no idea. All I know is I heard her take off in a hurry. I know you're not gonna be willing to wait around until she comes back. Why don't we take my car? We'll head out to River Road.

Rachel: Lake Drive.

Ken: Lake Drive it is.

Rachel: Ok.

Amanda's voice: The brake lines on my car were cut, for one thing.

Sam: And Evan was right there for you, wasn't he? Do you know what's strange? Every time something bad happened, Evan was right there for you.

Amanda: All right, if he didn't buy the policy, then who did?

Sam: Evan. None of this would have happened if you'd have been honest with me. I asked you over and over again to tell me the truth. I told you I'd forgive anything. But you had to protect what you did with him, didn't you? There's nothing to say anymore. You believed him when he told you I was trying to kill you. I can't even think about forgiveness. When did I ever try to hurt you or your family? You believed his lies because you wanted him. I don't care who you're with. I don't care how you feel. It's all over. It's all over. It's all over.

[Tires screeching]

Sam's voice: [Echoing] It's over, it's over.
