Paulina: What did Iris tell Rachel?
Ken: I don't know.
Paulina: What am I going to do?
Ken: The first thing you're going to is calm down.
Paulina: I'm all right.
Ken: Paulina, if anybody sees you this panicky --
Paulina: Iris heard us.
Ken: Iris is drunk. She's barely coherent. I don't think Rachel is going to give much credence to those wild accusations of hers.
Paulina: I don't know. I hate lying to Rachel.
Ken: I know the feeling. Listen, I think this time we may have gotten lucky. But that doesn't mean that Iris is going to just let this slide.
Paulina: Ah, that's for sure.
Ken: Which is why coming clean with Rachel now --
Paulina: I can't. So just stop pressuring me. Damn you, Ken, this is all your fault.
Rachel: Well, Iris is very upset.
Ken: Yeah, she's about as worked up as I've ever seen her.
Rachel: Well, not without good cause.
Paulina: Why do you say that?
Rachel: She's been drinking. She always gets emotional and irrational when she's drinking. Are you all right?
Paulina: Me? Yeah, yeah, I'm fine.
Rachel: I'm sorry Iris is trying to spoil your evening.
Paulina: I think I'm going to go find her and see if I can mend things.
Rachel: That would be nice.
Well, it's nice to see you again.
Ken: Listen, about this trip --
Rachel: Yes, I was a bit surprised to have you take off like that so abruptly without a word.
Ken: Sorry about that.
Rachel: Yes, well, then I put a few things together, and I think I know why it is you took off without a word till tonight.
Felicia: Honey, this is the breakthrough you've been looking for. I think it's wonderful.
Sam: I just wished to hell she'd have told me sooner. I mean, do you know how long she kept this to herself?
Felicia: That's because she's madly in love with you and she was afraid to lose you.
Sam: Yeah, but you think you can use that as an excuse?
Felicia: No, I mean, but you'd be amazed at what people do when they're in love. I mean, this is minor, believe me.
Sam: I don't know.
Felicia: I do. People do crazy things. I write it. I live it. I know. Besides, she told you eventually, right?
Sam: Yeah, she did.
Felicia: Well, I think you should be grateful for that.
Sam: What, you think I should forgive her then?
Felicia: I think you should get on your knees and kiss her feet. I mean, she's helping you nail Evan Bates.
Sam: Yeah, maybe you're right.
Felicia: I wish you'd let me help you.
Sam: No. I can't let anyone help me right now. I can't involve you. I can't involve anyone else right now.
Ryan: I have an idea.
Grant: This had better be good.
Ryan: If I shut up about you and Sharlene, you can stop giving me a problem about Vicky Hudson.
Grant: Fine, fine.
Ryan: Good, good.
Grant: I just don't think she's good for you, that's all.
Grant: Well, look at you. I mean, look at the effect she's had on you already.
Ryan: What're you talking about?
Grant: Look at those dark circles under your eyes.
Ryan: Dark circles?
Grant: I mean, you're obviously losing sleep over this woman. I mean --
Ryan: Look, we said we were not going to discuss this subject.
Grant: Well, I'm just trying to point out to you that --
Ryan: Don't point anything out, ok? You want to discuss something, you can discuss -- you can discuss the balance of payments. You can discuss the S&l crisis. Just don't talk about this.
Grant: I got to go. Sharlene is waiting.
Ryan: Look, Grant, Grant. You just got your life back on track. It's going to be a long life.
Grant: Yes, and I want it to be a happy one.
Ryan: You're heading for a fall, big brother.
Grant: Have you ever known me to fall before? Sharlene, are you ready?
Sharlene: I am driving myself home, Grant. It would be better and safer that way all around.
Matt: The party is over. Well, it was a success, I think. You're not nervous anymore, are you?
Paulina: Mm-mmm, not with you by my side.
Matt: That's good. I think you pulled through like a real Cory.
Matt: I was rather impressed.
Paulina: I wonder if I'll ever really fit in.
Matt: I know what you're going through.
Paulina: How can you?
Matt: I felt the same thing when I found out I wasn't really Mac's kid.
Paulina: Matt, you didn't know?
Matt: No, I -- I thought Mac was my father. But my Mom told me a couple of years ago that Mitch was my natural father.
Paulina: I had no idea.
Matt: I -- I felt betrayed and I went through those feelings and I didn't think I could handle it and all that.
Paulina: So, you -- you had no idea all this time?
Matt: Yeah. Well, I felt like an imposter in my own house.
Paulina: So what did you do? I mean, how did you manage knowing that you weren't a Cory?
Matt: I realized that legal or not, I felt like a Cory, I was a Cory. So I didn't bother with all that other jazz.
Paulina: It's so important to belong somewhere. To know where your roots are.
Matt: Paulina, our family is very close. You don't get born into that. You work at it.
Paulina: I'll always remember this night. And what you said to me.
Matt: Good. How about some ice cream and cake?
Paulina: Cake? I haven't had any yet, you know.
Matt: You're not on a diet or anything are you?
Paulina: No, no, no.
Matt: Thank goodness!
Paulina: Are you kidding?
Matt: My goodness. The first girl I meet and she's not on a diet. I'll tell you.
Rachel: You're afraid of commitment. Isn't that it?
Rachel: Too much for you?
Ken: Is that what you think?
Rachel: What's important is what you think.
Ken: I think -- I think maybe you're right. Maybe it is too much for both of us.
Rachel: I see.
Ken: I should never have let you get so close. You sensed all along I was trouble, and I am.
Rachel: I sensed quite a lot of things about you. But I thought at last I could believe you.
At least when you said you loved me. Well, you helped me get over some things I was afraid of. Would you like me to help you?
Ken: Rachel, I had a lot of time to think while I was away. We're -- we're just -- we're too different.
Rachel: Hmm. I guess that's why opposites attract -- it's more exciting.
Ken: I don't want to hurt you.
Rachel: Are you asking permission to do that?
Ken: Rachel, this won't work.
Rachel: Why not?
Ken: Because I don't want a relationship. I want to be free.
Rachel: Well, what was all that going on between us?
Ken: A challenge.
Rachel: Why are you saying all these things?
Ken: Trying to be straight with you.
Rachel: I see. Now all of a sudden you don't want a relationship.
Ken: Hey, I know you didn't want to be tied down either.
Rachel: I can speak for myself, thank you.
Ken: You knew what I was like when we got started -- independent. I mean, I need to be able to pick up and take off whenever I want. Feeling free is important to me.
Rachel: Yes, I get the picture.
Ken: And the idea of sedentary life surrounded by hot and cold running servants --
Rachel: I said I got it.
Ken: They're expecting me at the Lake Michigan dive site anyway.
Rachel: Well, then you better go.
Ken: Look, you said it yourself. The idea of -- of us making a commitment -- we're not ready for that. Right?
Rachel: You're doing all the talking.
Ken: Maybe we just got ahead of ourselves. If I'm responsible for that, I'm sorry.
Rachel: You know, I really thought I knew who you were.
Ken: I really am sorry.
Rachel: Don't apologize.
Ken: [Indistinct] I'll get out of your way.
Ada: And Mac started Cory Publishing when he was a journalist.
Ken: Excuse me.
Ken: Sorry to interrupt you.
Ada: That's ok. I was just filling Paulina in on some of Mac's life.
Ken: I wonder if I could borrow Paulina for a moment?
Ada: No problem. Be our guest.
Paulina: Well, I want to hear the story, so don't say a word until I get back, all right?
Paulina: What are you doing?
You didn't tell her.
Ken: No. We talked about other things. The bottom line is I'm leaving.
Paulina: For good?
Ken: I'm back to the dive site on the lake, but I'm finished with Bay City, yeah.
Paulina: What about Rachel?
Ken: What about her?
Paulina: Well, Ken, I thought everything was going very well between you two.
Ken: That doesn't matter now.
Paulina: Well, of course it matters. You love her.
Ken: I can't stay here carrying this lie around with me. You understand that? I can't look Rachel in the eyes and I tell her I love her when everything else is a lie.
Paulina: Everything isn't a lie.
Ken: Well, what isn't? I blew it, Paulina. I got trapped in my own lie. The only way out now is to get out of town. Better to lose Rachel now than to hurt her a lot worse later on. You'll be all right?
Paulina: Fine. I can take care of myself.
Ken: I'm sorry I got you involved in all this.
Paulina: There's still a chance I could be Mac's daughter. That's what I'm holding on to.
Ken: Ok. I wish you luck.
Paulina: You saying goodbye?
Ken: From now on you're on your own. And I hope you do better with your life than I did with mine.
Grant: I'm sorry we didn't have our chance to talk.
Sharlene: Your brother needed you. That was more important.
Grant: Yeah, well, I'm not so sure about that --
Sharlene: Grant, family is all that matters.
Grant: Yeah, I guess so. Well, look, I will -- I'll talk to you soon, ok?
Ryan: What happened?
Grant: I'm leaving.
Ryan: I thought you were going to drive her home.
Grant: She changed her mind.
Ryan: How come?
Grant: Look, I don't want to talk about it.
Ryan: I guess you don't. Listen, I have an idea. Maybe we shouldn't talk about anything.
Grant: Fine. Fine with me.
Ryan: Good. I'm sure that we might actually get along better that way. As long as we don't talk.
Felicia: Why won't you let me help you? I would love to expose Evan Bates for what he is.
Sam: I don't need help.
Felicia: Oh, right. I forgot. This is Sam Fowler. Mr. Macho has to do everything on his own just like your brother.
Sam: I involved Olivia, I lost a friend.
Felicia: I'm your family, Sam. And I have clout in this town. I could get you in to see anyone. I could get you information you couldn't otherwise get, and you know it.
Sam: All right. Let's do it.
Felicia: All right.
Sam: I'm going to nail that son of a --
Felicia: Ooh, be careful. I mean, I think of this as a classy joint.
Sam: All right, I'm sorry.
Felicia: Listen, do you think you can put together a plan and get back to me?
Sam: I'll have it ready by tomorrow morning.
Felicia: I think we're going to make one hell of a team, Mr. Fowler.
Sam: I just want to clear my name.
Felicia: Now, listen, be careful. Get enough proof before you say anything to Amanda because Evan could weasel out of this.
Sam: All right. Thank you, Felicia.
Sam: I'll see tomorrow, ok?
Lucas: I want say goodnight to Fanny.
Cass: Let the man do what he wants, would you?
Frankie: What he wants is Felicia. Now, would you just let her close the place up, please? Let's go.
Lucas: This is ridiculous.
Frankie: Would you just trust me and do as I say?
Sharlene: Hey, it's time to close up, huh?
Felicia: John didn't call you, did he?
Sharlene: Nope, but it doesn't matter.
Felicia: Of course it matters. He was supposed to call you, he didn't, and I promised you he would.
Sharlene: Well, Felicia, you didn't say tonight.
Felicia: It's nice of you to try and let me off the hook. When they don't call -- anyway, I know just how you feel.
Sharlene: Well, Mitch didn't call, did he?
Felicia: You and I have an awful lot in common these days. We're both married to terrific guys, and we both wonder if there's somebody else out there that might make us a lot happier.
Sharlene: Felicia, I never wanted this to happen.
Felicia: I know. Who does?
Sharlene: Yeah, but for me to be confused at this point, I'm -- I'm expecting a baby.
Felicia: That has to make it a lot harder, I know.
Sharlene: Yeah. I -- I'd like to be excited about this child, and instead of looking forward to it, I'm worried all the time.
Felicia: You know, honey, you got to think of one thing. No matter what you're feeling for John or Grant, the moment this kid comes, you're going to love him with all your heart.
Sharlene: Or her.
Felicia: Or her. And you won't be the least bit confused about that love.
Sharlene: Sweetheart, that's one thing I do know for sure.
Felicia: And I bet the rest of your life will just straighten right out.
Sharlene: Oh, I hope so.
Felicia: Go home.
Sharlene: I'm going.
Felicia: Get some rest and stop worrying so much and just try and keep the faith that everything will turn out for the best, ok?
Sharlene: You, too.
Sharlene: Thanks a lot.
Felicia: Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow. Yes, I'd like an international operator. I need to place a call to Africa.
Evan: What are you doing?
Amanda: Nothing. I'm just --
Evan: Thinking about Sam again?
Amanda: What do you mean again?
Evan: Well, when we were making love, I could tell you were someplace else.
Amanda: No, I wasn't.
Evan: Amanda, tell me the truth.
Amanda: I'm sorry. Sam is still a part of my life. I mean -- in my thoughts, I just, I'm not free of him yet.
Evan: Ok, I understand that.
Amanda: Do you?
Evan: Yeah. You never said you'd come to me with a clean slate.
Amanda: That's true.
Evan: I certainly got my past.
Evan: Hey. I look forward to the day when you're going to free of Sam, and I can have you all to myself.
Felicia: Yes. Oh, so, then Mr. Blake is not available? I see. No, I'm sure he'll be back. Yes, I'll try again later. Thank you so much.
Iris: Boo! [Laughs]
Felicia: We're closed, Iris.
Iris: Oh, I want to have fun. Where is everybody? Hello?
Felicia: Everybody has gone home. Come on, I think that's where I should take you.
Iris: Hey, please. Get your hands off me.
Felicia: You can't stay here.
Iris: Then I'll go where I have to go by myself -- alone, without help from anyone, Thank you very much.
Felicia: You're bombed, Iris.
Iris: How dare you tell me what I am. How dare you. You've already stolen Lucas from me. I don't think I want you to do anything else, Thank you.
Felicia: All right. Have it your own way.
Iris: You know what? You know what? When you cheat with a man who is promised to somebody else, how do you know he won't cheat on you when he's finally yours?
Felicia: Go home, Iris, please.
Iris: Your triumph's going to be short lived. Fanny. Short lived as hell.
Sharlene: It's all right, sweetheart. Mommy's here for you now, no matter what. No matter what. I'll always be here for you.
Ada: Then there was the Christmas when we had the big blizzard. Remember that, honey? There was so much snow that nobody could get out of the driveway. Everybody had to stay home, remember? Mac made a toast that lasted half the night. We had Christmas for two days.
Matt: Two-day Christmas?
Ada: Oh, we have such wonderful memories. Don't we, Rachel? Rachel, what's the matter?
Rachel: Nothing. What could possibly be the matter? We've just welcomed another member into our family.
