Bridget: You know what your problem is, Victoria?
Vicky: I can't hear you!
Bridget: I said, "do you know what your problem is?"
Vicky: Here we go again.
Bridget: It's false pride.
Vicky: No, it's that I don't have a fax machine, and I really need a fax machine.
Bridget: Why don't you just call him on the telephone?
Vicky: We've been through this before.
Bridget: Well, at least you'd have an escort for the party.
Vicky: I don't need an escort. I don't want an escort.
Bridget: But he's so attractive, dear.
Vicky: Then you ask him out.
Bridget: Why are you being so stubborn, hmm?
Vicky: Because he insulted me, Bridget.
Bridget: My dear --
Bridget: Anyone looks at you cross-eyed and you'll get insulted.
Vicky: He didn't look at me cross-eyed. He told me I was a terrible reporter.
Bridget: You're being too sensitive about this, you know?
Vicky: Why would I want to spend an evening with a man that makes me so angry I want to strangle him? Ryan.
Ryan: I rang the doorbell about six times, but I guess nobody heard me. Oh, ok, what are you guys arguing about?
Iris: Uh-huh. No, not at all. You, too. Bye.
Lucas: Did I hear that right?
Iris: I have no idea. Were you eavesdropping?
Lucas: That was Lorraine Pierce.
Iris: You were eavesdropping.
Lucas: She's an editor of the -- at The Bay City --
Iris: That's right. She writes for the society pages. Do you want me to sign those papers?
Lucas: Call her back, Iris.
Iris: You came in here for a signature.
Lucas: You can't do that to Rachel and Paulina.
Iris: I'm very busy, Lucas.
Lucas: You are deliberately trying to ruin tonight for them.
Iris: That's right -- I am. I could think of nothing that would give me more pleasure than to bring Rachel down from her high horse and run that imposter out of town.
Lucas: Stop it, Iris. Just stop it.
Iris: Just leave the papers, Lucas. I'll sign them later.
Lucas: All right, fine. I'll call -- I'll call Rachel myself.
Iris: Look, Lucas, you're out of my life. Now, please get out of this office.
Jake: Why are you whispering?
Paulina: Why do you think?
Jake: There are other people around.
Paulina: That's right.
Paulina: Right again.
Jake: Well, the only reason I called was to wish Miss Cory a happy party.
Paulina: I'm going to hang up now.
Jake: Oh, I'm not finished. There is one other reason I called. If you don't have the money by party time -- well, you're just not going to feel much like celebrating.
Paulina: I've got a watch.
Jake: Get the cash, Paulina. Otherwise, the Corys will have one less family member tonight.
Rachel: Who was it? Was it about Ken?
Donna: Where's Marley?
Jake: She's upstairs. So this is our engagement lunch, huh?
Donna: I'd rather eat ground glass than help you celebrate your engagement to my daughter.
Jake: I love you when you're dramatic, Donna.
Donna: My offer still stands, you know?
Jake: The cash?
Donna: I could get it for you this afternoon. You could be on your way out of Bay City tonight to Rome, Paris, Rio -- anywhere in the world. What do you say?
Jake: I say -- that I've already set the wedding date, Mom.
Amanda: I'm glad we decided to do this.
Jamie: Yeah, me, too.
Amanda: I'm sorry I haven't been spending a lot of time with you lately. I've just had my mind on my own problems, you know?
Jamie: Hey, I understand. You know that.
Amanda: When are you going to be finished with all this?
Amanda: So, um -- how are things going at the clinic?
Jamie: Fine. Just great.
Amanda: Enjoying it?
Jamie: Yeah. Look, do you mind if I make a quick call? I'm not sure if I should sign --
Amanda: Not now.
Jamie: It's just going to take a second.
Amanda: Jamie, come on. I came down here to have lunch with you. All you have done is look at papers and made phone calls.
Jamie: You're right.
Amanda: Thank you.
Jamie: What do you want to talk about?
Amanda: Well, you looking forward to tonight?
Jamie: I'm happy for Mom. I know she's excited about it.
Amanda: Yeah, she is.
Jamie: And let's see, what else could we talk about?
Amanda: Talk to Marley lately?
Jamie: I don't want to talk about her.
Amanda: Why not?
Jamie: You know why not, Amanda.
Amanda: Because she's marrying Jake.
Jamie: Yes, I think that's an excellent reason not to talk about her.
Amanda: You're just going to accept that she's marrying someone else, and that's it, huh?
Jamie: Yep, that's it. Amanda, why are you looking at me like that?
Amanda: Because I know better.
Jamie: Let's get menus.
Amanda: This is really hurting you, isn't it?
Jamie: Boy, I'm starving. How about you?
Amanda: You're just going to give up and accept it. I don't believe you.
Jamie: Amanda, why shouldn't I give up?
Amanda: Because you've never done it before.
Jamie: So? There's always a first time.
Amanda: You and Marley are great together. She's just right for you.
Jamie: Don't tell me what's right for me, ok?
Amanda: You know as well as I do.
Jamie: Look, how many times do I have to tell you?
Amanda: As far as I'm concerned, you married the wrong sister.
Jamie: Look, that's enough, all right?
Amanda: Why are you getting so upset?
Jamie: As far as I'm concerned, Marley is a closed issue.
Donna: So you've set a date.
Jake: That's what people do when they love each other, and I love Marley.
Donna: You don't know the meaning of the word "love."
Jake: And she loves me.
Donna: I despise you, Jake.
Jake: I can live with that.
Donna: And I will do anything to get you out of Marley's life.
Donna: But unfortunately, I'm forced to accept you.
Jake: Lemon soup. That's kind of weird, but it doesn't taste bad, you know?
Donna: If you hurt Marley --
Jake: I'm not going to hurt Marley.
Donna: In any way -- any way -- I'll make sure that you pay in the worst way possible. Do I make myself clear?
Jake: Now I have an announcement for you. I'm going to be coming into some money.
Donna: Selling your motorcycle?
Jake: Big money -- enough to get Visions cranked up the way it should have been from the beginning, enough money to open Visions all over the country, enough money so that I won't have to listen to your pathetic threats. I'm going to be a success, Donna. I'm going to be invincible.
Donna: I rather doubt it.
Jake: I can thumb my nose at people that -- like you that have looked down on me all my life.
Donna: Cockroaches look down on you, Jake.
Jake: Ah. What do you think about a November wedding? Right around your birthday, huh?
Marley: Oh, good. I'm famished. Hi, sweetheart.
Marley: Shall we sit?
Jake: Yes, why don't we?
Donna: I forgot the napkins.
Marley: The napkins are right here.
Donna: Oh, well, I have to get the salt.
Marley: Would you please stop it?
Marley: Jake and I are going to be married. I want us all to get along. Now, Jake is making an effort, and I would like you to as well. Please.
Paulina: No, no, it wasn't about Ken.
Rachel: Who was it?
Paulina: It was Jake.
Paulina: Yeah, yeah, he was trying to track down a piece of equipment that I put in storage for him. So you haven't heard from Ken yet, huh?
Rachel: No, I'm starting to get worried.
Paulina: Yeah, me, too. Uh, Ken knew my mother. He's my only link to her. I care about him.
Rachel: Well, I'm sure he'll call.
Paulina: I hope so.
Rachel: Which reminds me.
Rachel: Remember the milagro that Ken and I found, that belonged to your mother? It's time that you have it now.
Paulina: Oh, Rachel.
Rachel: And this is a present from your father.
Paulina: They're beautiful.
Rachel: They were his dress cuff links. I had them made into earrings for you.
Paulina: I don't know what to say.
Rachel: You don't have to say anything. Just wear them for the party. It will be your first party as a Cory. What's the matter, Paulina?
Paulina: I can't accept these.
Vicky: Actually, we were discussing --
Bridget: Humility and false pride.
Vicky: Our favorite topic.
Bridget: Yes, well, our Victoria here -- she rather favors false pride.
Vicky: While Bridget, on the other hand, is more of a humble pie eater.
Bridget: Oh, I'm so glad you mentioned pie because I have one in the oven. Excuse me.
Vicky: I'm very busy, so whatever you have to say, please say it quickly.
Ryan: I came to apologize.
Vicky: I'm sorry, did you say you came to apologize?
Ryan: I'm sorry about what happened yesterday. I was pretty strung out about my partner.
Vicky: How is he?
Ryan: He's going to make it.
Ryan: I just didn't expect your article to say what it said. You know, the first draft was a lot different.
Vicky: Well, I know. I did some rewrites after I thought about it some more.
Ryan: Anyway, I'm sorry I made those cracks about what you wrote before I even read it.
Vicky: That's ok.
Ryan: It is?
Vicky: Yeah, I think we both jumped to conclusions about each other.
Ryan: You mean you accept my apology?
Vicky: What's so amazing?
Ryan: I thought you'd make me work an awful lot harder.
Vicky: You caught me on a good day.
Ryan: Yeah, well, I better go.
Vicky: All right.
Ryan: Actually, I forgot to tell you -- I liked a lot more than the content.
Vicky: What do you mean?
Ryan: I mean I think you're a good writer.
Vicky: So you think my dilettante days are over?
Ryan: Could be.
Ryan: Well, I'm sorry I barged on in here. See you.
Vicky: I, uh -- I like that shirt.
Ryan: Well, thanks.
Vicky: I just thought you might like to know that I was invited to go to a Cory party this evening.
Ryan: That's fascinating.
Vicky: Well, I'm not really keen on going alone.
Vicky: So --
Vicky: What's your schedule like today? Are you real busy?
Ryan: Well, let's see. Let me think. I've got to go back to Headers at 5 p.m.
Vicky: Oh, good, then --
Vicky: I just thought you might like to meet some new people.
Ryan: Oh, no.
Vicky: Why not?
Ryan: Oh, I think I know enough people. I mean, I don't want to spread myself out too thin, you know? Right?
Ryan: Ok. Well, I'll see you.
Vicky: What are you investigating today?
Vicky: Ah. Stop this. All right. I thought maybe -- oh, to hell with this. I was wondering if you would like to come to this party with me tonight. Will you?
Iris: Didn't you hear? I want you out of here.
Lucas: I'm not leaving until you call that editor back.
Iris: Then you have a long wait.
Lucas: Fine. I'll call Rachel myself.
Iris: Don't you -- don't you dare.
Lucas: This kind of stuff isn't going to make you happy, Iris.
Iris: I am deliriously happy. Now, would you please get out of my office before I fire you?
Lucas: You can't. My contract reads that I answer to the CEO, and that is Rachel.
Iris: Huh. Oh, you must have loved figuring that out.
Lucas: Iris, I am sorry it didn't work between us.
Iris: You're not. You're not sorry, and I don't care.
Lucas: Well, I do. We have to get along. We have to work together.
Iris: Well, maybe we could work together if you'd just get off this moral high ground of yours. I mean, don't you think it's a bit hypocritical? You've walked all over everybody to get what you wanted.
Lucas: Iris, and that almost put me too late to the party. It's not exactly armed robbery.
Iris: No, not exactly, but it's a dirty trick, and it's designed to embarrass them.-- with that creature pretending to be my sister.
Lucas: Iris, give it up please. This hate is going to eat you up.
Iris: Oh, oh, just because you've read the fine print, now you've got to kiss up Rachel.
Lucas: Oh, come on. Why are you always fighting with your family?
Iris: Because I'm the only one who can see through the deceit.
Lucas: Iris, don't you see? It's an obsession with you. It's one of the things that broke us up.
Iris: Fanny broke us up. I suppose she's the one who's teaching you this nauseating do-gooder attitude.
Lucas: No, Iris, I just hate to see you hurt yourself.
Iris: How can I hurt myself when I'm right?
Lucas: Because being right, in this case, may have a very, very heavy price tag. You can be right and end up all alone.
Paulina: I -- I don't deserve these.
Rachel: Why not?
Paulina: Just take them back. Please, Rachel.
Rachel: They're yours, Paulina, whether you give them back or not. They're part of your heritage now.
Cass: Hey. Super sleuth here has some news for you.
Rachel: About Ken?
Frankie: Uh, yeah, it's sketchy, but it's something.
Rachel: Come on in.
Frankie: How you doing?
Cass: Hey, Paulina.
Paulina: Hello, Cass.
Rachel: It's about Ken.
Paulina: Oh, did you find him?
Frankie: We're one step behind him.
Rachel: Is he in Nova Scotia?
Frankie: He was. My Canadian contact tracked him to the Archaeology department at the University of Halifax.
Rachel: Is he still there?
Cass: It's almost as if he doesn't want to be found.
Frankie: They said he left for Prince Edward Island.
Rachel: And you know how to contact him there?
Frankie: I made a couple of calls to people who might be able to get a message through to him.
Rachel: When will you know?
Frankie: I'm bugging them every couple of hours.
Rachel: Well, why don't we call again from here, ok? I'm a little anxious.
Rachel: We'll call from the library?
Frankie: You got it.
Paulina: I'll come with you.
Cass: Uh, wait, Paulina. If you have a minute, I have some papers for you to sign.
Paulina: Oh, yeah, sure.
Cass: Just, you know, stock transfers, transactions, powers of attorney for the brokers, trust agreements -- that sort of thing.
Paulina: If I were to need a fairly large amount of money, how long would it take for me to get it?
Cass: You mean like sometime soon?
Paulina: Yeah, real soon.
Cass: What's going on, Paulina?
Donna: Marley, pass the -- [Clears throat] The butter, please.
Marley: How's the champagne?
Jake: It's fine.
Marley: Good. Jake, why don't you tell Donna about the project you were doing at "Brava" for Iris?
Jake: I don't think that --
Marley: There's no need to be modest. It was very successful, was it not?
Jake: Yes, well, I don't think that Donna wants to hear about Visions business.
Marley: I'm sure she does. You're interested, aren't you, Donna?
Donna: Yes, I'm extremely interested.
Jake: Well, it will have to wait. There's a couple things that I have to take care of if we're going to make the Cory party on time.
Donna: Paulina Cory.
Jake: Yes, right.
Marley: I think it was very generous of Rachel to accept Paulina into the Cory family.
Jake: I'll see you later, honey.
Marley: Jake. I have a feeling that this party is going to be very uncomfortable seeing that Paulina and I don't quite get along because she had a crush on you and --
Jake: Hey, hey. I'll handle it, ok? Thank you very much for the lunch, Donna. I really, really enjoyed it. Bye-bye.
Marley: Well, you made absolutely no effort.
Donna: I thought I was perfectly civil to him.
Marley: I was expecting a little more than civility.
Donna: Well, I'm sorry. I did the best I could.
Marley: All right, you don't like Jake. Can you at least admit that he's a fascinating person?
Marley: Yes, he is fascinating. And good looking. He's good looking --
Donna: Yes, he is good looking.
Marley: Ok, well, we agree on something.
Donna: Yes, yes. Darling, I have to go. I just remembered an errand I have to do, and I'll see you later. Let Angela clean up these dishes.
Marley: Hello, Hudson residence.
Amanda: Uh, hi. Is Marley there? This is Amanda Fowler.
Marley: This is she. Hello, Amanda.
Amanda: Hi. I need to speak to you right away, Marley.
Marley: What's wrong?
Amanda: I'll tell you when I see you. Uh, can you see me now?
Marley: Well, sure. You could meet me here.
Amanda: Great. I'll see you soon.
Ryan: I've got to check my schedule, ok?
Vicky: What do you mean your schedule? You said you were off at 5:00 tonight.
Ryan: Let's see. 5:30, cocktails with Nancy. 6:00, dinner with Debbie.
Vicky: Let me see that.
Ryan: I got a movie com --
Vicky: You have absolutely nothing written here.
Ryan: Always works.
Vicky: You just think you're an absolute riot, don't you?
Ryan: With perps.
Vicky: What -- what are perps?
Ryan: Perps -- perpetrators.
Ryan: I pretend to read off some kind of evidence from my little book, and before you know it, the average guilty person just starts to confess.
Vicky: Well, I am not a perp, officer.
Ryan: You're the worst kind -- intense, gorgeous. You always think you're right.
Vicky: So what are you now -- you going to shine the light in my face and try to make me crack?
Ryan: I'd have an awful lot of fun trying.
Vicky: No rubber hoses.
Ryan: No, just a battle of wills -- yours against mine.
Vicky: You know --
Vicky: If I were to confess --
Vicky: You might just be the one to make me do it.
Ryan: I'm flattered.
Vicky: Pick me up here in two hours.
Ryan: I'll be here.
Vicky: And wear a tux.
Ryan: Yes, ma'am.
Vicky: Your chief is calling you.
Ryan: See you later.
Cass: Level with me, Paulina. Are you having some kind of trouble I can help you with?
Paulina: Trouble? No.
Cass: Because if you need advice on something or professional counsel --
Paulina: No, really, Cass. I just -- I was thinking about buying an apartment.
Cass: Co-op or condo?
Paulina: I'm not sure, but I'll need money for a down payment, right?
Cass: Yeah, right.
Paulina: So I was just wondering how long it would take to get that cash to put down.
Cass: My guess would be a day or two. You can wait that long, right?
Rachel: Well, your wife really is a super sleuth.
Cass: You found him?
Frankie: At an excavation site in Prince Edward Island.
Cass: All right.
Rachel: Trust Ken to find a hunt for Norse relics.
Paulina: So did you get any idea when he'll be coming home?
Rachel: Oh, I don't think it will be for a while. You know Ken. He loves those digs, and this is a difficult one.
Frankie: Yeah, the quake in Nova Scotia made it pretty difficult.
Paulina: You mean he's in danger?
Rachel: Well, that's why he does this. He loves an element of danger.
Frankie: He was working on that Lake Michigan dive. Why did he take this crazy assignment all of a sudden?
Paulina: Excuse me. I'm really exhausted. I have to take a nap before the party.
Frankie: Is she all right?
Rachel: She's under a lot of pressure --
Rachel: Worried about meeting the people and everything.
Cass: Yes, I can see she is.
Frankie: You know, I would like to make a few more calls, see if there's some other way to get a message to him.
Rachel: That would be great. Keep me posted?
Frankie: Sure. There has to be some way we can communicate with this guy, right?
Cass: Yeah. See you later.
Donna: See you later. Hi, Rachel.
Rachel: Hi, Donna.
Donna: I have to talk to you alone.
Rachel: Well, I'm alone now. What's up?
Donna: Please, I'm begging you as one mother to another -- help me save Marley from a fate worse than death.
Amanda: Can I come in?
Marley: Of course. You sounded upset over the phone.
Amanda: I am.
Amanda: You can't marry Jake McKinnon, Marley. Not if you care at all about Jamie.
Donna: We all know what happened with Jake and Paulina.
Rachel: I don't know what happened with Jake and Paulina.
Donna: Oh, Rachel, please.
Rachel: Neither do you.
Donna: He was flirting with her at the very least all the while he was asking Marley to marry him. He cannot stay away from other women.
Rachel: Donna, I still don't know what this has to do with me.
Donna: But as a mother, surely you can recognize that he is not the man for Marley to marry.
Rachel: But if Marley wants to marry him --
Donna: Were you happy when he was involved with Paulina?
Rachel: Of course not.
Donna: I rest my case.
Rachel: But that was Paulina's choice, and this is Marley's choice.
Donna: But she's throwing her life away, and I can't just stand by and watch that.
Rachel: Oh, I do sympathize with that -- I really do -- but there's nothing I can do about that, Donna, and there's an awful lot I've got to do for this party. Excuse me.
Donna: There is Jamie.
Rachel: What about Jamie?
Donna: He's very interested in Marley, Rachel. You know that.
Rachel: They're friends, Donna.
Donna: It's more than that. Marley told me that she might be in love with Jamie.
Rachel: Well, then why on earth is she marrying Jake?
Donna: The only thing that is stopping them is Marley's feelings for her sister. She doesn't want to hurt Victoria.
Rachel: I see where this is taking you, Donna, and there's no way I'm going to get involved in this. I mean, they are adults -- believe it or not -- and they're going to have to work this out.
Donna: Rachel, just please think about it. At least do that for me.
Donna: Jamie, hi. How are you?
Rachel: Hi, sweetie.
Donna: We'll talk about this later.
Rachel: Mm. Bye. See you later.
Jamie: What was that all about?
Rachel: Pure Donna.
Jamie: Oh, what do you mean?
Rachel: Well, um, she doesn't want Marley to marry Jake, and so she thinks that won't happen if you and Marley get together.
Jamie: That's pure Donna, all right.
Rachel: Uh-huh. So is she right?
Jamie: Reuben, hi, Jamie Frame. Is Stacey in? Thanks. Stacey, hi, it's Jamie. Listen, I know this is short notice, but do you have an escort for Paulina's party? You don't? How about coming with me? Terrific. I'll pick you up about 6:30? Great. I'll see you then. There is nothing between Marley and me -- nothing. If Donna corners you again, you tell her that, ok?
Marley: You don't know what you're talking about.
Amanda: I've been there, Marley. I've gone back to a marriage that ended. I've tried to make it work. It was a disaster.
Marley: Well, this is a completely different situation.
Amanda: Is it?
Marley: Yes. Did Jamie send you here?
Amanda: Jamie would kill me if he knew that I was here.
Marley: Well, that's because he knows it's over, and there is no chance that it will work out between the two of us.
Amanda: Why won't it?
Marley: He was married to my sister, for heaven's sakes.
Amanda: Those obligations are over. He has no ties to her.
Marley: My obligations are not over to her. She's my sister, Amanda.
Amanda: If you love Jamie --
Marley: Her pain is my pain. Can you understand that?
Amanda: What about the pain that she caused you?
Marley: She almost lost her son because of that.
Amanda: That's not the point.
Marley: The point is that blood is more important than anything. You're a Cory. You of all people should understand that.
Paulina: No, no.
Rachel: You've destroyed your legacy, your heritage.
Paulina: I didn't mean to.
Rachel: Your link to the past.
Jake: Her heritage? Don't make me laugh.
Paulina: Jake, please. You mustn't tell.
Rachel: What are you talking about?
Jake: She's a fake.
Jake: That piece of tin is as fake as she is. She didn't tell you about the money, did she?
Rachel: What money?
Jake: The money she owed me to keep my mouth shut.
Paulina: Don't listen to a word he says.
Rachel: What are you talking about, Jake?
Jake: You know Ken masterminded the whole thing.
Paulina: Jake, please.
Jake: She's no Cory. She's a nothing -- an orphan from nowhere.
Jake: A nobody!
Jake: I warned you, Paulina. I warned you. I warned you.
Rachel: Tell me this isn't true. Tell me. Tell me you haven't lied to me.
Rachel: Tell me you haven't taken advantage of my kindness and my love for you. Tell me!
Lucas: This is the projected budget for the Italian --
Rachel: Oh, excuse me. Could you put that on the piano? Yes, the Italian layout.
Lucas: Well, it's a good chunk of money, but we're promised the top models in Europe, and if we use the location --
Rachel: Whatever you need you've got, Lucas. I -- I trust your judgment.
Rachel: Anything else?
Lucas: No, that's it.
Rachel: Ok. I appreciate your coming out today. I was trying to make it into the office.
Lucas: Yes, yes, there is something else.
Lucas: It's personal, not business.
Rachel: Go on.
Lucas: Well, it's about this party.
Rachel: What about it?
Lucas: I got some information that I think you should know. You might want to deal with it.
Lucas: The society editor from The Sentinel was told to boycott this party.
Lucas: Along with editors from other newspapers. Why -- I don't know.
Rachel: Why would somebody do that?
Lucas: That's all I know. I just --
Rachel: Iris, wasn't it? It was Iris.
Lucas: I just heard something.
Rachel: Why did you tell me this?
Lucas: Because I wouldn't want my daughter treated this way, wherever she is.
Rachel: Thanks for telling me.
Lucas: I'll get out of your way.
Lucas: Frankie, you look terrific.
Frankie: Oh, thank you, Lucas.
Rachel: Hi, you two.
Cass: Hello, there.
Rachel: Any news about Ken?
Cass: Actually, she was on the phone for a solid hour.
Frankie: There's communication in and out.
Rachel: Then you talked to him?
Frankie: Well, actually we missed him by a couple of hours. He left the dig early this morning.
Rachel: Oh, good. Then he's on his way home.
Frankie: If he is, he's not flying.
Cass: I checked with the airlines. He wasn't on any flight out.
Rachel: What -- he's taking a boat?
Frankie: The guy they talked to seemed to think he was headed in the other direction.
Rachel: The other direction?
Cass: As in north.
Rachel: Well, I guess we're just going to have to wait until he contacts somebody.
Frankie: And I'm still in touch with them up there.
Rachel: Let's not tell Paulina, all right? She's very close with Ken. I don't want this to spoil her evening.
Frankie: Fine. We won't say a word.
Rachel: After the party's over, I'll tell her.
Vicky: The nerve of him, the absolute nerve of him!
Bridget: Oh, he'll be along pretty soon now.
Vicky: Pretty soon is not good enough. He is supposed to be here, right now.
Bridget: You're not even dressed yet.
Vicky: I know. That's because I'm supposed to keep him waiting, and instead, he is keeping me waiting.
Bridget: Oh, my dear, you won't have to wait very long. He's just getting out of his car now.
Vicky: Fine. Now I will finish getting dressed.
Bridget: Hello, Ryan.
Ryan: Hello, Bridget.
Bridget: Come on in.
Ryan: Thank you.
Ryan: W --
Bridget: Oh, she's in her room. She's just putting the finishing touches on her dress, you know?
Ryan: Oh, ok.
Bridget: It's going to be a lovely party.
Ryan: Oh, yeah, I imagine.
Bridget: Mm-hmm. Won't you sit down?
Ryan: Thank you. You always make me feel so at home, Bridget.
Bridget: Oh, thank you. Would you like a wee dram?
Ryan: A dram?
Bridget: Oh, you see in Scotland, when we offer somebody a drink, we say, "would you like a wee dram?"
Vicky: You're late.
Ryan: You're gorgeous.
Vicky: Don't change the subject.
Bridget: Oh, I'm sure you're going to have a perfectly lovely evening. Victoria?
Bridget: I won't wait up for you tonight.
Ryan: You look great.
Vicky: Thought you didn't find me attractive.
Ryan: Did I say that?
Ryan: Let me take a closer look. That is great perfume.
Ryan: You're welcome. I brought you a present.
Vicky: What is it?
Ryan: Open it. Find out.
Vicky: Oh, they're beautiful.
Vicky: Even match my dress. Card?
Ryan: Mm-hmm. I figured since we can never get through an evening without arguing that we should have a list of subjects that are completely off limits so that we can have a nice evening.
Vicky: Ok. "Ex-husbands."
Ryan: Oh, yeah.
Vicky: "Sisters" -- definitely. "Police competency. The idle rich?"
Ryan: Mm-hmm. Did I leave anything out?
Ryan: [Laughs] Did I miss that? Where is it? No, it's somewhere.
Vicky: So what are we going to talk about?
Ryan: Oh, um -- football?
Vicky: Football could get awfully boring.
Ryan: With you? Never.
Vicky: Well, at least we won't punch each other's lights out. Thank you.
Ryan: Well, that is, of course, unless you're a cowboys fan.
Vicky: I love the cowboys.
Ryan: No, you don't.
Vicky: I'm kidding.
Ryan: Great perfume.
Marley: Hey. You got all dressed up.
Jake: Is it too much?
Marley: No. You look great.
Jake: But what? You don't like the tie, right?
Marley: No --
Jake: You don't like the tie.
Marley: The tie is fine. It's just that, um --
Marley: Let's not go to the party.
Jake: You don't want to go to the party?
Marley: Well, I'm not really in a party mood, and it's been such a long time since the two of us had an evening alone together. You know?
Jake: What changed your mind?
Marley: I told you. I'm not really in a party mood.
Jake: The truth.
Marley: It's Jamie.
Marley: It's just a little awkward with him -- the way he looks at me.
Jake: How does he look at you?
Marley: I don't know. He just always seems to be upset when I'm around.
Marley: And even though the two of us aren't working together anymore, he doesn't seem to accept the fact that I'm totally committed to you, and so things get a little tense when we're together or a little more than tense. Besides, I just -- I want to spend the evening with you.
Jake: I was kind of counting on you go -- to go to this party with me.
Marley: Why? You don't want to disappoint Paulina?
Jake: Paulina has nothing to do with this.
Jake: You don't believe me.
Marley: I just wonder why you're so anxious to go to this party, that's all.
Jake: I think this is a perfect opportunity to show everyone that we're back together.
Marley: Well, everyone we care about already knows.
Jake: I'd like to show everybody in the world. Do you know what it's like to walk into a big party like that with the most attractive woman on your arm, hmm?
Marley: Is that the only reason?
Jake: That and it's good P.R.
Marley: Mm, I never thought about that.
Jake: That's how I get most of my gigs. Friends tell friends, and this, after all, is going to be a big bash.
Marley: Right. That's true.
Jake: We can't worry about running into Jamie Frame every time we go out.
Marley: I know.
Jake: There'll be a lot of other people that we can talk to.
Jake: You'll go?
Marley: Yeah, sure. Can we leave early?
Jake: We can leave right after Paulina makes her big entrance.
Marley: Ok. I'll go just for you.
Jake: I love you.
Paulina: Do you know when Mr. Jordan will be back? I see. No, no message. Thank you.
Paulina's voice: "Dear Rachel, you have to know that I never meant to hurt you, but I've come to care about you too much to continue with this lie. I'm not Mac's daughter, Rachel. Not Maria's, either. I'm sorry. Love, Paulina."
Cass: And then we would have extravagant, lavish parties like these, showing off our daughter to everybody -- everybody.
Frankie: We're talking down the line here, aren't we?
Cass: Oh, yeah, sure. Down the line, right.
Frankie: We can't do anything about kids until Anthony is finished with the house, right?
Cass: By then we'll be too old to have children.
Frankie: Well, maybe we can hurry him along a little bit.
Cass: You just say the word.
Frankie: You just give me a kiss. I'm not ready for any major weight gain, you know? And I would like to devote my entire attention to my wonderful husband. Mm.
Amanda: It all looks fabulous, Mom.
Rachel: Thank you, darling. I keep thinking I'm forgetting something.
Frankie: Is there anything we can do to help, Rachel?
Rachel: Oh, how sweet. Actually, yes. You know, you could go into the library and check the bar and make sure it's all set.
Cass: The library it is. Mary Frances, the library.
Frankie: Cassius, yes.
Cass: Let us go.
Rachel: Ah, ok. Bye.
Amanda: I don't know.
Iris: Well, doesn't everything look very pretty, Rachel.
Rachel: So do you, Iris.
Iris: Thank you.
Rachel: I'm going to have to ask you for a favor tonight.
Iris: Of course.
Rachel: I would like you to shepherd around the press.
Iris: Yes, that will be fine.
Rachel: We had a mishap about that, you know. Apparently, the press wasn't going to come to the party.
Iris: Oh, really?
Rachel: Mm, but Amanda and I got on it. We made a few phone calls, so everything is all right now.
Iris: Oh, good. Could I have a drink, please?
Rachel: Oh, yes, of course. Amanda, why don't you see that Iris gets everything she deserves? Oh, there you are, darling.
Jamie: Oh, hi.
Rachel: Stacey called. She said she's going to be late. She got held up at the courthouse.
Jamie: No problem.
Rachel: No problem?
Jamie: Listen, I am sorry if I was rude before.
Rachel: You weren't rude. I understand.
Jamie: I wish I did. And you look beautiful.
Rachel: Thank you.
Jamie: I'm going to be outside.
Donna: What did he say?
Rachel: What? Who? Jamie?
Rachel: He said I look beautiful. So do you.
Donna: Well, thank you.
Rachel: Welcome to the party. The drinks are over there, the food will be out in a minute, and I'm afraid you'll have to excuse me. I have to go up and check on Paulina.
Donna: Jamie, hi.
Donna: I know you don't want to discuss this, but you have no choice. You must give serious consideration to my idea.
Ryan: If you see an hors d'oeuvre floating about, would you grab it for me? I'm starved.
Vicky: Mm. You seem like the shrimp puff type to me.
Ryan: What did she mean by that? Hmm.
Amanda: Hello, Vicky.
Iris: Hello, Vicky.
Vicky: So sweet. Thank you. Hello, Iris. Excuse me.
Donna: Forget Victoria. You can't let Marley marry Jake. You love each other. You belong together.
