Grant: Dr. Tribe, this is Grant Harrison. Yes. Has John Hudson received the telegram that -- well, the one concerning -- ah, that's great. That's excellent news, doc. No, I owe John Hudson a great, uh, great deal and I know your panel would be incomplete without him. Mm-hmm. Of course, he's not to know anything about me being involved. All right.
John: Where are you?
Sharlene: In here.
John: Sharlene, look at this.
Sharlene: Where's the fire?
John: They think I'm one of the big boys here.
Sharlene: They do?
John: Yeah. The CDC wants me to be part of a symposium about Dr. Hiver's treatment in Atlanta.
Sharlene: That's wonderful. What -- well, what's the CDC?
John: Center for Disease Control.
Sharlene: Oh, that -- that's right. Well, when is it?
John: Believe it or not, it's tomorrow.
Sharlene: Well -- well, then, you gotta go.
John: Yes, I think I do. How soon can you pack?
Sam: Olivia, it's me, Sam.
Olivia: Sam, I've been going crazy waiting for you to call back.
Sam: I'm sorry about that. Hey, it's great to hear your voice.
Olivia: Yours, too. When can I see you?
Sam: Um, let's see. I need about an hour. Can you come out then?
Olivia: Are you kidding?
Sam: All right, great. I'm staying at the Bay City Motel, room number 18. That's on Spring Street.
Olivia: Spring Street, got it.
Sam: Ok, great.
Olivia: God, I've missed you so much. Ok, I can't wait. See you then. Bye.
Olivia: Aunt Liz, I thought you played bridge on Fridays. Cribbage?
Liz: Who was on the phone?
Olivia: Just now?
Olivia: It was a wrong number.
Liz: "I can't wait, see you then" -- there's no reason to lie, Olivia. I heard every word. Don't walk away from me. That was Sam Fowler, wasn't it?
Iris: This is the address at the Southside Baptist Adoption Agency in Chicago, ok? There'll be a secretary on duty all evening.
Jake: So let me get this straight. You want me to go to Chicago tonight?
Iris: That's right, Jake, yes.
Jake: I thought you had this place checked out, Iris.
Iris: I did, but you so sweetly pointed out to me that perhaps they hadn't asked the right questions. And now you can show them this.
Jake: Oh, nice mug shot.
Iris: Yes, well, maybe someone in the agency will recognize Ken Jordan and give us some proof that we need.
Jake: I tell you what, I'll go first thing in the morning.
Iris: Jake, must everything be a struggle with you?
Jake: Iris, you stopped payment on my check. My checks are bouncing all over town. I am not a happy camper. I thought we came to an understanding.
Iris: That was the point I was trying to make.
Jake: Point taken and unaccepted, thank you very much.
Iris: Well, if you find out the information I need tonight, you will never have to bounce a check again.
Paulina: Hello, Iris.
Iris: Go to it, Jake.
Jake: Well, what brought you back here?
Paulina: I know what Iris is trying to do, and I think it stinks.
Sharlene: I can't go to Atlanta with you.
John: Sharlene, the conference lasts a week, but we don't have to stay the whole time.
Sharlene: But my therapy is almost every day now. I can't -- I can't give that up.
John: Yeah, you're right.
Sharlene: Well, you are now the big hotshot doctor. I'm sure you're gonna be invited to conferences all the time now.
John: I'll call in my regrets.
Sharlene: No, you -- you can't do that.
John: I'm not going without you, Sharlene.
Sharlene: John, don't argue with me on this one.
John: I am not leaving this town without you.
Sharlene: And I am not gonna be left here feeling guilty because I kept you from going to something wonderful. Now, we can't let my -- my therapy ruin everything. You go. I've got Josie, and I have Dr. Benson.
John: No, I don't -- I don't like this.
John: You know, I never would have been asked to be a part of this symposium if I hadn't promoted Dr. Hiver's treatment in this country.
Sharlene: And you did that to save Grant's life.
John: Yeah. But in order to be a part of the symposium, I have to be away from you.
Sharlene: Only for a couple of days.
John: Listen, if you need me for anything, I can be back on the next flight.
Sharlene: Ok, it's a deal. It's a deal.
John: Oh, Sharlene. You have come so far.
Sharlene: I've had a lot of help.
John: Hey, come on. You don't give yourself enough credit. Look at this morning. You let go of Grant, and you did it on your own.
Sharlene: I told you I want to be with you.
John: Grant Harrison is finally out of our lives forever, and you did it. I'm so proud of you.
Grant: Thanks for seeing me.
Taylor: What is it you wanted to speak to me about, congressman?
Grant: Sharlene came to see me and told me that she didn't want to see me ever again.
Taylor: I see.
Grant: Now, I don't suppose you had anything to do with this, did you?
Taylor: As a matter of fact, no, I didn't.
Grant: I just feel outnumbered by all of you people. I mean, it just makes me angry.
Taylor: I, uh, I don't really know what it is you'd like me to do, Mr. Harrison. If you want me to be a liaison between you and my patient --
Taylor: I'm sorry, I can't do that.
Grant: No, it's not that. It's just that -- well, it's something else, Dr. Benson. I mean, she came to me and said she didn't want to see me anymore, then she came back.
Taylor: She did?
Grant: When she first came to see me, she told me that the paternity test proved that John was the father of the baby.
Taylor: Well, that shouldn't have surprised you. You told her in my presence that you had never slept together.
Grant: But she said that she wanted her marriage with John and that she just couldn't see me again.
Taylor: Why are you telling me all this? Grant, I will not discuss Sharlene with you.
Grant: But you can't deny that I'm part of the process of her recovery.
Taylor: I certainly can. If Sharlene has decided not to see you again, I stand by her choice.
Grant: Are you helping her to be objective about her choices, or are you steering her away from me?
Taylor: Congressman, I don't like your style. I don't like what you're implying about my professional ethics, and I especially don't like being taken for a fool. I am Sharlene's doctor. I'm aiding her in integrating her two personalities and helping her find a balance that she can live with.
Grant: A balance that does not include the man that Sharly loved.
Taylor: I have nothing more to say to you.
Grant: I want Sharlene to be well.
Taylor: Then respect her decision.
Grant: Look, she may be coming back to me, Dr. Benson. And you can just go right on caring for her, but you and John might have to face the truth one day.
Taylor: What truth is that?
Grant: That if this little journey leads back to me, you'll just have to live with it.
Jake: What exactly do you think is going on?
Paulina: She's out to get me, and she's using you to do it.
Paulina: She's trying to get you to fire me, isn't she?
Paulina: Jake, you can tell me.
Jake: Paulina, Iris doesn't like you, but she's not stupid enough to tell me who to -- who to hire and fire in my own office.
Paulina: A little sibling rivalry, right?
Jake: That's what I say.
Paulina: What are you doing tonight?
Jake: What do you have in mind?
Jake: Well, now, that was subtle.
Paulina: Want to go upstairs?
Paulina: Are you by any chance going to see Marley?
Jake: I am going to Chicago to take some clients to dinner.
Paulina: Well, I didn't think she could move that fast, anyway.
Jake: Hmm, who's that?
Paulina: Marley and I had a little heart-to-heart today.
Paulina: Didn't you get the note?
Jake: Paulina, what note?
Paulina: The note that Marley left. I ran into her right after you left.
Jake: "Paulina and I are headed out for" -- what did you say?
Paulina: I didn't say anything to hurt her. Don't worry. I decided it's not my place to tell her, Jake. But you -- you really have to talk to her, because she's awfully suspicious of --
Jake: What went on?
Paulina: I told you, nothing. I played dumb. She told me to leave you alone.
Paulina: You really have to talk to her and get this --
Jake: I know that. I know that. Look, I'll see you tomorrow, all right?
Paulina: Kiss me.
Paulina: You don't know what you're missing.
Jake: Oh, I have an idea that I do.
Paulina: Jamie is having this benefit thing for his clinic in a few days.
Jake: Marley told me. Yes, I know about it.
Paulina: I'd really like you to take me.
Jake: We'll see.
Paulina: You tell Marley to get her own date.
Jake: Just relax, ok? Hey, stop pouting.
Paulina: Good luck in Chicago.
Jake: Mm, from your lips to his ears.
Ken: I've been saving this.
Rachel: For what?
Ken: For someone who's going to appreciate it, I guess. I saw a guy in Turin, paid something like three million lira for this at an auction.
Rachel: Well, how did you manage to get it?
Ken: Let me save my explanation until after we've tried it out on the table.
Rachel: [Chuckles] All right.
Ken: Are you all right?
Rachel: Yes, I'm fine.
Ken: Are you sure you want to be here?
Ken: What are you thinking?
Rachel: I was counting my blessings.
Ken: Have you many?
Rachel: Oh, many. And more right now. One in particular I didn't think I'd have again in my life.
Ken: What are you thinking?
Rachel: [Chuckles] About you.
Ken: What kind of thoughts?
Rachel: You've put up with an awful lot.
Ken: I don't know about that.
Rachel: I wasn't sure if I really liked you at first. Did you know that?
Ken: Oh, yes, I did know that.
Rachel: When I met you, it was such an awful time. I didn't want new friends or new anything. I wanted back what I'd lost.
Ken: I understand that.
Rachel: We had been "Mac and Rachel" for so long, it was inconceivable to me that I could live without him, but maybe I can. Moving forward doesn't mean I've forgotten him. I'm sorry, I --
Rachel: I shouldn't be talking like this.
Ken: Why not?
Rachel: It's not very romantic, is it?
Ken: Rachel, it feels to me like a lifetime since I've wanted to wait around for anyone. When I met you, everything changed. Somewhere along the line I realized that I would wait for you as long as I needed to.
Rachel: Maybe it's time now to stop waiting and to see where we end up.
Ken: I'd like that.
Olivia: You're not going to leave me alone until I tell you who called, right?
Liz: Well, that rather sums it up.
Liz: Ok. Ok, what?
Olivia: It was Matthew. Satisfied?
Olivia: Yes, I -- oh, boy. I guess you could say he's miss.. it's sort of hard to talk about.
Liz: Matthew Cory is wooing you?
Olivia: Crazy, isn't it?
Liz: Oh, I'm so excited! Everything I've dreamed of for you. It was Matthew that sent you the beautiful roses.
Olivia: Right. He's so thoughtful.
Liz: Oh, I'm so happy he's finally come to his senses. The two of you are so perfectly suited to each other. Rachel is gonna be so pleased. I'm gonna call Mrs. Applebee.
Olivia: Oh, hold on -- hold on, aunt Liz. I think it's too soon to clue everyone in.
Liz: Why not? This is a match made in heaven.
Olivia: Well -- well, it could jinx us.
Liz: Uh, uh, uh --
Olivia: That's right. We could jinx everything and then where would we be?
Liz: Up the creek, without a wedding.
Olivia: That's another thing, aunt Liz. Please, please, don't marry us off yet. Matthew and I want to take this slowly, ok?
Liz: [Giggles] I'm so excited, I think I'm gonna pop!
Olivia: Don't pop, all right? Now, I'll see you later.
Liz: Where are you going?
Olivia: I'm going to see Matthew.
Liz: Oh, have a wonderful time. Enjoy yourself.
Olivia: I will.
Liz: Don't be afraid to show Matthew you care, Olivia.
Olivia: I will try and remember that.
Liz: Good night.
Olivia: Good night.
Olivia: Don't wait up, all right?
Liz: [Sing-song voice] I'm gettin' married in the morning. Ding dong the bells are going to chime. [Normal voice] I promised, huh? [Sighs] A Matthews/Cory wedding -- I am going to pop.
Amanda and Evan: [Hums the theme from "Jaws"]
Evan: What is she doing? Whoa! Did you see that?
Evan: What is mommy doing, huh?
Amanda: You know, she's doing great. She used to be afraid of the water in the beginning of the summer. You really helped her.
Evan: That's because she's the biggest, baddest, bravest swimmer in the world, aren't you? And she's also -- no? Well, I'll tell you --
Amanda: Yes, you are.
Evan: One of the coldest.
Amanda: Oh, is she?
Evan: Huh? You ready? One... two...three. Oh, hurry up. She's freezing. We got to keep her warm.
Evan: What was that?
Grant: Oh, he's already accepted? Oh, no, no, I'm sure that Dr. Hudson is -- is aware of the importance of this conference. Oh, yeah, his career means a lot to him. Obviously. Uh, but I must ask you again to honor our agreement, Dr. Tribe. Under no circumstances is Dr. Hudson to know or to find out that I asked you to invite him to the conference. Mm-hmm. All right. Thank you. No, I know you will. Oh, by the way, when -- when is John's arrival? Tonight? Ah.
Sharlene: I'm gonna miss you, you big lug.
John: Honey, I don't have to go.
Sharlene: Yes, you do or else.
John: Listen, Sharlene, I hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty to call Dr. Benson and tell her what was going on.
Sharlene: I could have done it. I'm on my way for my appointment with her right now.
John: Ok. You know, when you were in the hospital, I swore to myself that I would never be away from you again.
Sharlene: Listen to me. I am fine. I have Josie and I have Dr. Benson and I know you -- you'll be calling me every hour, every two.
John: Probably every 15 minutes.
Sharlene: [Laughs] Promise me you'll get on that plane tonight, ok? Do it for me. And you show those people what a smart, handsome man you are and don't forget to tell them you're gonna be a daddy in a couple of -- few months.
John: I love you.
Sharlene: I love you.
Sharlene: Which reminds me, your socks are in your black shoes, ok?
Sharlene: And I got to get going, otherwise I'm gonna be late for my appointment.
John: All right. I'll call you as soon as I get to the hotel.
Sharlene: Ok, ok, and -- and, you know, it could lead to the Nobel Prize.
John: Yes, yes, I know it could.
Sharlene: I love you.
Amanda: What did you hear?
Evan: I don't know. It sounded like something in the bushes over there.
Amanda: Probably just an animal.
Amanda: A big bad animal.
Iris: Oh, there you are.
Amanda: Uncle Evan's gonna save us. Oh, Iris.
Evan: Iris, you didn't -- no, you couldn't have just been in the -- no.
Iris: Excuse me?
Amanda: Hello, Iris.
Iris: There wasn't a soul in the house.
Amanda: I know. Everyone has plans. Are those for me?
Iris: No, actually, I was looking for your mother.
Amanda: Oh, she's out.
Evan: Iris, why don't you jump in the pool and cool off?
Iris: With you? No, thank you, darling. Hello, Alli. My goodness, this child is shivering.
Amanda: I was just taking her in for her bath.
Amanda: Uncle Evan will come and tuck us in, so say good-bye.
Evan: Good night, little pumpkin.
Amanda: Iris, I can take those to my mother if you want.
Iris: Thank you. Don't get them wet.
Amanda: Good night, Iris. Come on, Hilda's waiting.
Iris: Mm, "uncle" Evan? How quaint.
Evan: Is there some reason why you haven't left yet?
Iris: No. You certainly haven't wasted any time, have you?
Evan: What is that supposed to mean, Iris?
Iris: Well, this is not really your style, is it darling?
Evan: [Sighs] Well, people change.
Iris: You hate children.
Evan: Not this one, I don't.
Iris: Yes, it's funny about that, isn't it?
Evan: Well, I have to get dressed.
Iris: Evan, I hear that you're back on the market again.
Iris: In what capacity?
Iris: Oh, business of course. How did your meeting with Michael Hudson go?
Evan: It was fine. Boy, you know everything, don't you?
Iris: I certainly try to. I hope you're not going to try and pilfer the Hudsons this time.
Evan: Good night, Iris.
Iris: Evan, just one more thing. Be careful with Amanda.
Evan: Why? You don't give a damn about her.
Iris: I don't like Amanda very much, that's true, but I -- I know what it's like to fall in love with the wrong man.
Evan: Well, she just happened to fall in love with the right one this time.
Iris: Maybe. I don't really care very much. But since she's working for me, I don't want her work to suffer because she's mooning over you.
Evan: Oh, Iris, don't worry. I'm not going anywhere.
Iris: But isn't it the thrill of the chase with you? Isn't that the only thing that ever really appealed to you? I guess it remains to be seen, hmm? Well, it's going to be quite some autumn for all of us. Good night.
Amanda: I won't even ask.
Evan: No, it's -- don't even bother.
Amanda: Well, Hilda is bathing Alli, so you just have to go and tuck her in.
Evan: Can I just -- let's stay here and talk for a second.
Evan: I went to, uh, look at an apartment today.
Amanda: Why? I thought you liked your place.
Evan: Well, it's too small.
Amanda: It's too small for you?
Evan: For me, for you, Alli -- three of us. I'd like you to move in with me.
Ken: Remember Arizona?
Ken: Remember when the ground gave way in the cave and I reached my hand out to you?
Rachel: It's hard to forget.
Ken: You had no reason to believe in me then.
Ken: But I caught you, didn't I?
Rachel: Yes, you did.
Ken: I want you to be able to believe in me now.
Sam: Come on in.
Olivia: Hi. I'm so glad you're home, Sam.
Sam: You look good.
Olivia: Thank you. Boy, it felt like you were away forever.
Sam: Well, I don't think Liz is too thrilled to have me back, is she?
Olivia: Well, I'll handle aunt Liz.
Sam: [Sighs] Well, I saw Alli today.
Olivia: You did? You went over to the Corys' already?
Olivia: How did it go with Amanda?
Sam: I didn't talk to Amanda. I didn't let anyone know I was there.
Olivia: Sam, what happened?
Sam: Well, I wanted to march straight in there and just -- but then I heard Amanda laughing by the pool, and I saw her there with Alli and Evan.
Olivia: Oh, boy. I wanted to be the one to tell you about that.
Sam: What do you mean?
Olivia: Evan has been spending a lot of time over there with Alli.
Sam: So now he's acting like her father then, huh?
Olivia: Alli hasn't forgotten you.
Sam: The guy is unbelievable, Olivia. I'm there hiding in the bushes watching them, and he's just playing daddy to my daughter.
Olivia: I know how much this must hurt.
Sam: I mean, he knows exactly what strategy to use. If Amanda had any doubts about him, he's completely wiped those away.
Olivia: I know.
Sam: He asked Amanda for her and Alli to move in with him.
Olivia: Are you serious? What did she say?
Sam: I didn't stick around to hear the answer. I mean, God only knows what Alli will think if she's raised by Evan Bates.
Olivia: That won't happen.
Sam: It sure as hell will not. I got to do something. I got to clear my name for Alli's sake, if for nothing else.
Olivia: Look, I told you when you left I will help you.
Sam: I am gonna make this guy's life miserable. I'm gonna nail that pig to the wall!
Paulina: Back so soon?
Iris: Still loitering?
Paulina: I work here.
Iris: And I pay the bills. Where's Jake?
Iris: Oh, well, that's too bad.
Paulina: I was just closing up, Iris.
Paulina: Could we talk for a minute?
Iris: "May" we.
Paulina: I know how you feel about me.
Iris: Oh, I'm glad you've been paying attention.
Paulina: What I don't understand is why -- why you won't even try to like me.
Iris: Are you serious? Are you serious?
Paulina: I have done everything I can to make you understand. Yet every time I see you, you seem to have more and more hatred for me.
Iris: You're right.
Paulina: And it's all because you can't accept who I am.
Iris: Oh, I can accept who you are. You're a lying, scheming little opportunist. And why I'm the only one who's capable of seeing that is beyond me, Miss Cantrell.
Paulina: My name is Cory now.
Iris: Your name is mud.
Paulina: Are you aware that Rachel's having a party for me to let everyone know who I am?
Iris: Well, hurray for Rachel.
Paulina: You can't stop me from getting what I deserve.
Iris: Which is my father's money --
Paulina: Our father.
Iris: You guess again. Don't you ever! Don't you dare call him your father. You know nothing about the man who raised me, and you have absolutely no claim on him.
Paulina: It's going to be legal eventually, Iris. What are you going to do, go around screaming about this the rest of your life?
Iris: Listen, if by some miracle you manage to be legally named a Cory, I will spend every cent I own and use every ounce of my energy to make sure that you're put out of this family and end up in prison where you belong!
Paulina: Well, you're gonna make a fool out of yourself.
Iris: I don't think so. You see, I'm really used to exposing little frauds like you. I'm really very good at it. You think you've got away with murder, don't you? Believe me, when I'm finished with you, you'll think murder's a vacation.
Paulina: You can leave now, Iris.
Iris: I'll leave when I'm good and ready.
Paulina: You just get out of here.
Iris: Hey! Watch your back. Ciao.
Woman: I've told you again and again anything concerning the children handled by this agency is confidential.
Jake: Miss Reed.
Miss Reed: Laurie will see you to the door.
Jake: You know, it must be very hard to work for a woman like that.
Laurie: Like what?
Jake: I don't know, so unfriendly.
Laurie: Yeah, well, it's a job.
Jake: Mm. So how long have you worked here?
Laurie: Five years.
Jake: What's your name?
Laurie: Laurie Lewis, bored and underpaid.
Jake: Very funny. You have beautiful eyes, you know that?
Laurie: You think so?
Laurie: My mother always told me they were boring.
Jake: [Chuckles] How's your memory?
Laurie: My -- huh?
Jake: Well, you know, if I was to -- if I was to show you a picture that, uh, that Nurse Ratched refused to look at, could you get in trouble?
Laurie: I never get in trouble.
Jake: Oh, someone as adorable as you, I -- I doubt that. I would really appreciate it.
Laurie: I never forget a face.
Jake: That's good.
Laurie: Let me see this. Holy crow!
Jake: What is it?
Laurie: I don't believe it.
Jake: You know that man?
Laurie: Know him? I was in love with him.
Taylor: Was it hard for you to tell Grant that you never wanted to see him again?
Sharlene: Yes, but I knew I had to do it.
Taylor: But you have doubts.
Sharlene: I went back to see him after I told him -- see this -- [Sighs] This man that I used to know -- actually, his fiancÚ came to me and she asked me for a favor. She needed me to talk to Grant and I couldn't -- I couldn't say no.
Taylor: Do you feel guilty about what you did?
Sharlene: Well, I feel -- I feel guilty because I didn't tell John.
Taylor: Why didn't you?
Sharlene: Because, Taylor, he wouldn't understand.
Taylor: He was angry when you didn't tell him about seeing Grant at the Old Mill.
Sharlene: That -- and that's exactly what I'm talking about.
Taylor: But if you want to avoid that kind of reaction, isn't it important for you, Sharlene, to be honest with him?
Sharlene: He's irrational about Grant.
Sharlene: See -- see, I understand. I do. I get it. I understand why it is so hard for him to accept this and why he reacts the way he does, but I want him to understand what I'm going through.
Taylor: Understand or accept?
Sharlene: I know I was wrong. I should have just -- I should have just told him. I know that. But you see, there is no gray area for John with Grant. None at all, none. He would have been hurt. He -- he'll be hurt and angry.
Taylor: You can only do what you're comfortable doing.
Sharlene: You know, this is -- I don't know. Do you know how hard this is? This is really hard because I'm -- I am trying like crazy to get to know me and not hurt John and not -- not make more of a mess of everything else.
Taylor: Sharlene, don't push yourself to be so perfect, and don't fight any of the feelings you have. You'll sort through this.
Sharlene: Ok. Ok, I'll tell him tonight when he calls, 'cause I know I'll feel better if I do.
Taylor: What was Grant's response when you told him that you couldn't see him again?
Sharlene: He was hurt. But he understood because he knows that I'm -- I've got to get on with my therapy. I've got to try to get better and start a family with John.
Taylor: That's what he told you?
Sharlene: What are you getting at?
Taylor: He came to see me tonight.
Taylor: Sharlene, Grant has his own agenda about your mental health and about what's best for you. It has very little to do with what you and John want for yourselves.
Sharlene: But he told me he would let go.
Taylor: He is still hoping that you're gonna come back to him.
Sharlene: It's just not gonna happen, so --
Taylor: He's not going away. Grant's not out of your life, not by a long shot. And if you want him to be, you're going to have to make a very strong stand and really commit yourself to a life with John.
Sharlene: I've done that. I have done that.
Taylor: Have you?
Grant: Uh, yes, could you tell me if flight 442 from Bay City regional has departed yet? Oh, it has. Ok. All right, thank you very much. Bye-bye.
Amanda: It's a beautiful night, isn't it?
Evan: Yep, sure is.
Amanda: Summer is almost over. I can't believe it.
Amanda: I don't know, Evan, ok?
Evan: Ok, I didn't mean to push.
Amanda: No, you're not. I understand why you asked us to move in with you.
Evan: I want to take care of you and Alli.
Amanda: You're so sure of your feelings.
Evan: Yes, I am.
Amanda: I used to be like that. It's a great feeling to be so sure of love.
Evan: Well, take your time. I'm not gonna push you.
Amanda: I love you for asking, but Alli is a very confused little girl right now and she misses Sam.
Evan: I know.
Amanda: I can't uproot her.
Evan: You're right, you can't.
Amanda: Promise me something, though.
Evan: Well, it really depends on what it is, but --
Amanda: Would you ask me again, someday, when my divorce is final and when I know where Sam is? I can't cut him out of Alli's life no matter how I feel about him. Are you disappointed?
Evan: Well, I would be lying if I said no. Uh, but I can wait. I mean, I can wait.
Amanda: I care about you very much.
Evan: Well, this water feels nice and warm.
Amanda: Yeah, it does.
Evan: I think we should go back in.
Amanda: Our suits are still drying in the cabana.
Evan: It's just the way it happens to be.
Amanda: There's nobody around.
Sam: Then I stayed at Mac's hunting cabin for a few weeks.
Olivia: It must have been very lonely.
Sam: Yeah, it was. But it was good, too. I mean, I know exactly what I have to do. I'm just not sure how to do it yet, that's all.
Olivia: What do you mean?
Sam: Well, Evan had the charges against me dropped because he was sure it was the best way to cover up any lies that he had told.
Olivia: Right, so what are you going to do?
Sam: Expose him -- fix it so Amanda knows what he did. And once I prove to her what he has done, if she still wants to be with him, more power to her. But if that happens, I will never let either of them near Alli. That I swear.
Olivia: How are you going to prove all this?
Sam: I need to get ahold of that insurance policy, the life insurance policy that he bought for Amanda and forged my signature with. I need to find that. And I need that receipt for the gun. Man, if I have that evidence, I will ruin that guy's life.
Olivia: Sam, you do have the evidence.
Sam: What do you mean?
Olivia: I have all that stuff -- the gun receipt, the forged policy, everything.
Sam: Olivia, what are you saying to me?
Olivia: I went into your apartment when Evan was still in the hospital and I dug it all up. And then I thought it might make you look guilty, so --
Olivia: No, no, no, what did you do with it?
Olivia: I put it in a bus locker. Did I screw up?
Sam: [Laughs] No, you are unbelievable.
Olivia: I am?
Sam: Yes. We are gonna clear my name, stick it to Evan, and prove to Amanda that she has been conned. What would I have done without you?
Olivia: I told you I want to help. I care about you.
Sam: You know, you are the only person that has been with me from the beginning? You know how important that is to me now? Thank you.
[Knock at door]
John: She's not home.
Grant: John, I thought --
John: You thought I was on a plane. I booked an early morning flight instead. I can't believe you. You set up this whole thing with the CDC, didn't you?
Grant: Come on, I don't know what you're talking about.
John: You slimy son of a -- how far will you go? What won't you do to get at my wife?
Grant: Look, I'm not walking out on Sharlene.
John: She told you to stay out of our lives.
Grant: On your prompting. She's terrified.
John: You know, I ought to break your neck!
Grant: Oh, yeah, that would be real productive, wouldn't it, doc?
John: Get out!
Paulina: She's not going to take any of this away from me. Over my dead body, Iris.
Laurie: I only met him once, but I thought he was the sexiest thing I'd seen in -- we don't get too many single men through these doors, if you know what I mean.
Laurie: Lots of guys doting on their wives is all.
Jake: Is there any -- anything in those files there?
Laurie: I know it's in here somewhere. Anyway, he was so cute and so sweet. He said his cousin had been given away at birth in Central America, and he was trying to track the girl down for his uncle who was dying of some rare disease and wanted to see his only daughter before he died. I nearly cried.
Jake: I'll bet.
Laurie: Anyway, I bent the rules for him a little bit. He was so sincere, kind of like you only -- older. Here we go. He was looking for a file on a girl born in Central America in a specific year with a specific blood type. And we found her.
Jake: Paulina Cantrell.
Laurie: I was kind of hoping he'd call me for a date, but he never did.
Jake: Well, that shows you the guy was nothing like me, right?
Laurie: I really wish he had called. There was something funny about the whole thing and I wanted to ask him about it.
Jake: What was it that was funny?
Laurie: Well, there were a bunch of files that fit the same description. This agency took in a lot of babies from Central America during that same time. And after he left, I went through some of the files I had pulled for him.
Laurie: Well, other little girls had the same blood type, the same range for birth date, but he saw this file and grabbed it. Now, how could he be so sure Paulina Cantrell was his cousin?
Jake: I don't know.
Jake: He picked Paulina at random. Ken Jordan picked Paulina Cantrell out of the blue, told her she was Mac Cory's daughter, and she bought it. He set this whole deal up. My God, I did it!
Laurie: What happened?
Jake: If I ask you to testify into court to what you just said, would you do it?
Laurie: I'd lose my job.
Jake: My employer would take care of that. You wouldn't have to worry about money for a long time. This is very important to me. My future depends on it.
Jake's voice: Would you testify in court about your meeting with Ken Jordan?
Laurie's voice: Yeah, I would.
Ken: I love you.
