Iris: So let's begin, shall we?
Jake: Don't start that tape.
Iris: Excuse me?
Vicky: There's been a mix-up. You have the wrong tape.
Jake: Yeah, this is the tape you want right here.
Michael: Uh, what is wrong with the tape we have?
Vicky: The soundtrack.
Jake: Is out of sync.
Jake: Oh, sorry about that. No harm done. I'll just switch these.
Iris: Jake, we've already waited 15 minutes for this meeting. It's a little late for perfectionism.
Jake: Iris, the tape is garbled.
Iris: I don't care. This is the tape that I had copied this meeting and this is the tape we'll use.
Jake: You're making a mistake.
Iris: I think we'll let the "Sophisticate" board decide that. Lights, please.
Josie: Oh, Lucas, I hoped I'd find you here.
Lucas: Josie, I thought you were going to get some rest.
Josie: I can't rest. My whole life is falling apart.
Lucas: Come on, you promised not to go out by yourself.
Josie: Well, I was careful. I had to see you.
Lucas: This about your mother? I just found out, I'm --
Josie: No, no. She's the same. John's taking good care of her. It's Matthew.
Lucas: What about him?
Josie: He won't believe that I was really attacked. He thinks I'm lying.
Lucas: Honey, you can't blame him.
Josie: Lucas, you've got to help me. You're the only one that can.
Lucas: He won't believe me.
Josie: But you saw the creep run out of my apartment. You can tell him that this is really happening.
Lucas: Josie, it's not a good idea that I get mixed up with you two.
Josie: Lucas, please. You're my only chance of getting him back.
Sharlene: They're trying to railroad me. Don't you see that?
Grant: Look, I just talked to John and to Dr. Benson, and they're very adamant about keeping you here and treating you here.
Sharlene: Don't listen to what they're telling you.
Grant: But they want to help you.
Sharlene: No, they want to control me. They want me to disappear. Is that what you want?
Grant: No, no. Now, what they told me is that they want you to bring your two lives together.
Sharlene: It's a lie. John wants to hang on to that dishrag he married. And -- and Benson, what a joke.
Grant: What do you mean?
Sharlene: See, because Sharlene kowtows to all that psychological garbage, and Benson just loves it. She --
Grant: No, look, Sharly, you have got a problem. Now, we know that.
Sharlene: Yes, I've got a problem and her name is Sharlene! And that's -- that's who they're rooting for. Don't you see that? Or have they got you thinking that I'm something out of "the twilight zone"?
Grant: No, no. Of course not. Of course not. But you -- you are not well.
Sharlene: No, so, baby, you're my only chance. You're my last chance. You -- you've got to get me out of here. So you -- you take me to another doctor. You do that, you take me. And -- and then maybe I'd have a chance.
Grant: I can't even ask Dr. Benson to give me permission to see you.
Sharlene: See? They'll keep you away from me.
Grant: No, nobody can do that. Look, I'm here, aren't I?
Sharlene: Yes. Yes, you're here. You're here even though you had to sneak in here. And if you -- and if you got in here, then you can get me out of here.
Grant: Now, wait a minute. You think that we can just walk out there?
Sharlene: You let them try to stop us. You are a congressman. You -- you tell them that this psycho ward is -- is invading my rights to life, liberty, and -- and especially the pursuit of happiness. You --
Grant: I want to do what is right for you.
Sharlene: This is it! Let's get out that door. We don't have much time. Let's go now. And let's not look back.
Vicky: We can't let you see this.
Iris: Jake, please.
Jake: Iris, we have a reputation to look out for.
Iris: I told you I don't care.
Jake: We do. All done.
Iris: Stop that tape.
Iris: You heard me. Stop the tape. Lights, please. You've already made such a fuss. I don't think anyone could concentrate on this presentation. I know I can't.
Vicky: We're sorry. Nobody would've understood it.
Jake: Exactly. No one would've understood it.
Iris: Then why did you say it was just a little problem?
Vicky: We -- we didn't expect an argument.
Iris: What are you doing involved in this?
Vicky: My mother got called away to Chicago unexpectedly and I am filling in for her, Iris.
Iris: I am not used to this unprofessional behavior.
Michael: Excuse me here. You know, it seems to me that since we now have the right tape, it makes sense to maybe take a five-minute break and do the right presentation.
Vicky: I hope that you all understand that this is for your benefit.
Michael: Tell you what, give me a sec, let me smooth things over here, all right?
Vicky: I'm sure Mom would appreciate it.
Jake: Well, so far so good.
Vicky: Are you kidding? Everyone in this room has a copy of the other tape, including my father.
Michael: It's not the end of the world, Iris, ok? This is not a big deal.
Jake: Come on, Vicky, no one's looking. Let's grab the tapes now, all right?
Vicky: You take the other side, I'll take this side. Excuse me, I'll take these.
Iris: All right, ladies and gentlemen, will you two please take your seats? I think we might be ready for the presentation. Could we have the lights off again please?
Jamie: I told you life would be more exciting with me.
Singer: Simply irresistible
Vicky: If I live past tonight, I will spend the rest of time as we know it plotting a way for you and my mother to pay for this.
Woman: "Sophisticate" -- the marketing tool of the '90s for the woman of the '90s.
Lucas: Josie, I'm sorry, but I don't think Matt would listen to anything I tell him. Do you want something to eat?
Josie: I've lost him and you don't even care.
Lucas: That's not true, but this is between you and him. You do have a big problem here. Maybe there isn't any solution.
Shawn: Josie. Hey, there you are.
Shawn: How you doing?
Shawn: Good. Listen, if you're in a party mood, I got a limo outside. The town is ours.
Josie: Oh, thanks anyway, but not tonight.
Shawn: You sure?
Josie: Lucas, this is Shawn. Shawn, this is Lucas.
Shawn: Hi, how you doing? There's nothing I can do to change your mind?
Josie: No, just tell everyone I said hello, ok?
Shawn: Ok, will do. Lucas, nice meeting you. Ciao, Jos.
Shawn: You don't know what you're missing.
Lucas: Who's that?
Lucas: Oh, he doesn't think so.
Josie: He's just a friend. Do you want to go to a movie or something?
Lucas: Oh, I can't, I'm sorry. I have to be at "Sophisticate" to watch some sales tape. I just couldn't bear it on an empty stomach.
Josie: I could go with you.
Lucas: You afraid to go home?
Lucas: I've got guards all over your place again.
Josie: I know, but I just don't want to be alone. You know, it's my own fault that I am.
Lucas: Well, you've got your work.
Josie: But that could be over any day.
Lucas: You're busier than ever.
Josie: You don't know how angry Matthew is. What if he starts telling everyone what I did? I have nothing.
Lucas: Josie, do you want Matthew back or do you want him not to blow your cover?
Josie: I love him. I do. He never made anything or anyone more important than me.
Lucas: He loves you.
Josie: I know.
Lucas: Have you tried to patch things up?
Josie: Of course I have. I tried to explain.
Lucas: Oh, don't worry, you'll come up with something.
Josie: He won't even see me.
Lucas: That's probably because you still get to him.
Josie: Think so?
Lucas: Come on, Josie, you're a very beautiful girl. You think it's easy for him to walk away from you? Look, I've got to go. Just put your mind in this and you'll come up with something. And make sure that Maurice puts you in a cab when you leave.
Josie: Ok. Thank you, Lucas.
Sharlene: What are you doing?
Grant: I can't go through with it.
Sharlene: Why not?
Grant: Because I don't want to lose you, Sharly.
Sharlene: Then you help me get out of here.
Grant: No. Come here. You got to get better. You've got to get better. Remember the things that we talked about, France and Paris? I haven't forgotten that dream.
Sharlene: Well, what am I supposed to hold on to?
Grant: Now, listen, baby, if you don't -- if you don't want Dr. Benson, I'll get you another doctor.
Grant: I've already talked to somebody who's an expert in the field.
Sharlene: You have?
Sharlene: John won't like that.
Grant: I'll handle John. Believe me, Sharly, he really has your best interest at heart.
Sharlene: Oh, yeah, right.
Grant: Sharly, won't leave you, ever.
Sharlene: You'll come back for me?
Grant: Yes. And not through the back door. I love you, you know.
Sharlene: God, Grant.
Sharlene: I don't believe this. It's John. He's turned them all against me.
Woman: Now "Sophisticate's" publisher, Amanda Fowler, will speak to you directly.
Iris: Lights. Amanda?
Amanda: I, um -- I feel very proud to be able to speak to you personally today because I like to think the "Sophisticate" woman is someone just like me. She's balancing a career, family, a husband. Uh, and her choices -- all of her choices are -- are very important. They affect -- affect all the lives around her.
Iris: [Whispering] Amanda?
Amanda: They affect the lives --
Iris: Thank you, Amanda. I think we get the idea. Amanda's talk will of course be modified and targeted to each individual advertiser. So, let's continue, shall we? Lights, thank you.
Woman: The women who read "Sophisticate" expect more out of life, and they get it.
Sharlene: Oh, oh.
[Knock on door]
Sharlene: Oh. I'm so glad it's you.
John: You can cut the act, Sharly.
Sharlene: Are those for me?
John: I said stop.
Sharlene: [Normal voice] How'd you figure it out? You feel warmer in the room when I'm here?
John: Actually, it's your eyes. They're ice cold. It's like you hate me.
Sharlene: You're right on that score. Sure took you long enough to figure it out though, didn't it?
John: It's the last thing you wanted me to believe.
Sharlene: Well, you use what you got.
John: So you use my love for Sharlene against me.
Sharlene: Oh, come on, Johnny. Don't tell me now you're the angry one, are you?
John: Actually, no, I'm not angry. Because I know why you came in to being and what function you serve for Sharlene.
Sharlene: For Sharlene?
John: That's right.
Sharlene: I was saving my own skin, buster.
John: Fortunately, you were saving hers.
Sharlene: Oh. Oh, so now you're my friend, huh? Well, you can forget it because I know you'd like to see me vanish.
John: Well, no, not right away. Sharlene needs you... at least for now.
Sharlene: Would you shut up with that stuff? Just shut up. Let me -- let me set you straight on something, ok? I don't want anything to do with you or that worn-out thing you say you love. She's a helpless wimp. And the two of you are what's standing between me and the happiness I've been waiting for all my life.
John: Oh, what's that?
Sharlene: No. Not "what's that" -- who. Grant Harrison. He's twice the man you are, and I love him.
John: Let me talk to Sharlene.
Sharlene: She's not here.
John: Yes, she is. Let me talk to her. Sharlene, fight for yourself. Come on, Sharlene. Fight for us. Sharlene, I need you. Fight for us, Sharlene. Sharlene, fight for us. Come on.
Announcer: Ball three.
Ruben: So are we still on for tonight then? Ok, like what? Like an hour? Ok, you got it.
Announcer: Grace leads off first. Here's the windup --
Ruben: Let's get a homer.
Announcer: And the pitch. It's low. Ball four, and Dawson walks.
Ruben: I don't believe Gooden walked him, man. You believe that? He just walked him.
Announcer: Mark Grace moves to second, Dawson on first with two outs as Ryne Sandberg steps up to the plate.
Matt: He walked him?
Ruben: Yeah, yeah, he just walked -- what's with you, man? I thought you were this big Cubs fan.
Matt: Oh, I just have something else on my mind.
Ruben: Ah. Josie, right?
Matt: You know, I don't want to hear it, Ruben, ok?
Ruben: What don't you want to hear?
Matt: I don't want to hear how I'm being unfair to her and anything else you have to say.
Ruben: I didn't say anything.
Matt: Ok, good. Keep it that way. It's over, all right?
Ruben: Just speaking from one who's made some mistakes in his life. Girl's learned her lesson.
Matt: Ruben --
Ruben: She loves you, Matt.
Matt: Enough. Not a word.
Ruben: Ok, look, I'm out of here. I've got to do some work for Stacey, all right?
Ruben: You're both miserable, you know that?
Matt: Hey, I'm -- I'm fine.
Ruben: Yeah, right.
Announcer: It's a high fly ball to left field. Kevin McReynolds moves in for the catch, and the side is retired with two left on. At the end of seven, it's the Mets 4, and the Cubs 2. Coming up for the Mets in the eighth inning, Gregg Jeffries, Darryl Strawberry, and Kevin McReynolds. McReynolds will be trying for his fourth hit so far this game.
Singer: Sister moon will be my guide in your blue, blue shadows I would hide
Josie: Nice night for a swim. Or whatever.
Josie: I couldn't stay away. Don't be mad.
Matt: Uh -- ahem. Mad is not what I'm feeling right now.
Josie: Matthew, I'm -- I'm so sorry about what I did. I was just desperate to hold onto my career and I didn't think. I never dreamed this would happen.
Matt: Yeah, neither did I.
Josie: Can't we fix it? I miss you so much.
Matt: Josie --
Josie: I'd do anything to get us back the way we were. Anything.
Matt: We can't go back.
Josie: Why not? I love you, and I know you love me. And I still know what it's like to feel you holding me.
Matt: I think about you, too, every day. Thinking about how we were going to get married.
Josie: Oh, Matthew, we can make this work. Nothing's impossible when it's you and me.
Matt: I used to believe that.
Josie: We're alone here. Why don't we make the best of it?
Matt: We have to -- we have to talk about what happened.
Josie: Oh, you talk.
Matt: No, Josie -- I mean it. You lied to me over and over and you scared everyone who loved you.
Josie: I know, I know, and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. I need you, Matt. Especially now.
Matt: Uh, why now?
Josie: What I told you before -- it wasn't a lie. I know I brought it on myself, but there is someone out there after me.
Matt: God, I can't believe this. I can't believe you're still doing this.
Josie: Ask Lucas! He scared the guy away!
Matt: Just get dressed, will you?
Matt: I want you out of here, now.
Josie: Matthew --
Matt: Just leave, ok?
Josie: What are you doing here?
Shawn: I followed you.
Singer: Simply irresistible she's so fine there's no other way to go simply irresistible she's so fine there's no telling where the money went simply irresistible she's all mine there's no other way to go simply irresistible
Iris: Thank you very much. I think that presentation was exactly what we were hoping for. And that concludes this evening's agenda, if there aren't any questions. I would like you to take your tapes home and study them at your leisure. We'll meet again in three weeks. I would also like to thank Visions. And I would like to thank you all for coming.
Vicky: Excuse me, excuse me. If you just leave the tapes that you received, Jake and I will collect them.
Iris: But they're perfectly ok.
Jake: No, that's -- that's all right. We'll have new copies made and messengered to each one of you at our expense.
Iris: Oh, good. All right then. Thank you again for coming.
Iris: Hello, darling. When did you get here?
Lucas: In time to see you save Amanda's neck. I waited till it was over to come in.
Marley: That was fantastic. I am so impressed with you.
Jake: Well, that's -- that's the general idea.
Marley: You're just so good, and Donna, she's so good. The two of you just make a great pair, I guess. I just wish she was here.
Vicky: We'll be sure to send you a new copy.
Iris: Jake, I want to congratulate you on the tape. It was exactly what I had in mind.
Iris: In fact, it almost made me forget that nonsense that preceded it.
Jake: Well, Iris, I'm sure you're not one to hold grudges, right?
Iris: Well, not if you keep doing work like that, no.
Lucas: It was very good work. I'm sorry I missed the opening.
Iris: Thank you.
Michael: Victoria, it's got to be heavy. Why don't you just let me carry the box of tapes for you?
Vicky: I'm fine, thank you.
Michael: It's -- oh, Jake. You know, I wanted to ask you -- that opening dialogue in the tape...did Donna write that? It sounded very much like her style.
Vicky: Well, Jake was really the creative force behind the whole project.
Michael: Oh. Well, then it's a real shame Donna's going to be giving all this up.
Jake: Did you say something, Michael?
Michael: Well, just that Donna is not going to be working with Visions anymore.
Jake: That's news to me.
Michael: She wanted to tell you herself, but she really didn't want to ruin your day today.
Jake: So she sent you instead?
Michael: No. I volunteered. I feel it's much better that she doesn't have any more stress than she has right now, what, with the trial and all.
Vicky: Well, I think it's all for the best. All good things must come to an end, right, Jake?
Jake: I'm going to have to talk to Donna about this.
Michael: Her mind is made up.
Vicky: You'll do just fine on your own. Probably better. But let's not talk about it now. We have to clean up.
Jake: I'll talk to you later, all right?
Michael: Honey, are you going home right now?
Vicky: Actually, I'm going to the loft. I have to tie up a few loose ends.
Michael: Oh. I'll walk out with you.
Vicky: Good night, all. Thank you very much. Good night.
Jamie: Amanda and I are going back to Tops. Can you join us?
Marley: No, thank you. That's very sweet, but, no, I can't.
Jamie: If you're feeling sorry for Jake because --
Marley: If I am?
Jamie: Marley, I just don't think that that's basis for anything.
Marley: Oh, I -- I don't agree with you. I think that compassion and understanding are a good basis for a lot of things.
Jamie: That's not true, Marley. We both know it.
Amanda: Hey, I'll be ready to go in just a minute, ok?
Marley: Amanda, thank you for inviting me. I really had a wonderful time and learned a lot.
Amanda: Just a minute.
John: Sharlene, talk to me, Sharlene. Don't let her shut me up.
Sharlene: Shut up. Just shut up!
John: Sharlene --
Sharlene: I love Grant! And that's stronger than anything either of you know about.
John: Not true.
Sharlene: Oh, really? Then tell me, Johnny, why hasn't your wifey shown up here yet? Let me tell you. Because her idea of passion is giving the bathroom a good scrub. She doesn't know beans about real love. And neither do you.
John: You are so wrong.
Sharlene: Am I? Then why am I winning?
John: Look, I'll let you talk to Dr. Benson.
Sharlene: Go ahead. Who cares?
Taylor: John. What is going on? You look awful.
John: Oh, it's Sharly.
Grant: I'm glad I found you guys.
John: What are you doing here?
John: Look, I thought we agreed that you would wait.
Grant: Well, I'm having Sharly meet a new psychiatrist. I'm flying in Dr. Ralph McGuire.
John: On whose authority?
Taylor: It's all right, John.
Grant: I thought --
John: No, listen to me. You just stay out of this, Grant!
Jamie: I'm getting hungry. You ready?
Amanda: Oh, yeah. Just give me a minute, ok? I want to talk to Iris.
Jamie: Sure, ok. You want a run-down on what you missed?
Lucas: Well, I think Iris and I were just leaving.
Amanda: Iris, can I speak to you? It would just take a minute.
Iris: Do you mind, darling?
Lucas: Not at all. We'll wait for you outside.
Amanda: I -- I wanted to thank you for coming to my rescue before. I don't know what I would have done if you wouldn't have stepped in.
Iris: Well, I was worried about you. Are you feeling all right?
Amanda: Yes, I am now. The page was spinning in front of me then and I -- I just couldn't go on.
Iris: You haven't had another one of those fainting spells, have you?
Amanda: No, no, it's not that. I really didn't think that this speech was going to affect me this way, but the words that I was saying -- I felt like such a hypocrite talking about being a model mother and wife and feeling that everyone here knew my life and knew that my marriage was in a shambles.
Iris: Well, come on, you've been through a lot lately. I'm sure nobody noticed anything.
Amanda: If they didn't notice anything, it was thanks to you.
Iris: Stop it. You handled yourself very well. As I said, you've been through a lot with Sam leaving and this Paulina claiming that she's Daddy's daughter. It's just been terrible for you.
Amanda: Nothing's been the same since Daddy died.
Iris: I agree.
Amanda: You do?
Iris: Amanda, that ache that you feel inside -- no one understands it better than I do.
Amanda: Well, Daddy always said that we should stick by each other. You did that for me tonight, so thank you.
Iris: Maybe we should start trying to be sisters, for his sake. Anyway, why don't you go and get something to eat? And for heaven's sake, don't stew about this.
Amanda: All right. I'll try not to.
Jamie: All set?
Jamie: Let's go.
Amanda: Yeah, let's go. Good night.
Iris: Good night.
Jamie: Good night. Bye-bye.
Lucas: Good night. Well, I never thought I'd see you two arm-in-arm.
Iris: Neither did I. But Amanda seems to have changed. Her fall from grace has done her good.
Lucas: Oh, really? How so?
Iris: Well, I think maybe she realizes that she can't make it on her own. That perhaps she even needs someone like me.
Lucas: Oh, so now you're your sister's keeper?
Iris: Cory Publishing needs both of us. It's time we stood by each other. Besides, if that codicil is going to be read, I'm going to need all the family support I can get.
Lucas: Oh, I see. Now, that's it. Now, that makes more sense-- a lot more sense than all of this talk of sibling love.
Jake: I can't believe she just walked out on me.
Vicky: I'll never speak to you again as long as I live. This fiasco is all your fault.
Jake: Oh, nothing happened. You're all right.
Vicky: No thanks to you.
Jake: We made it through, didn't we, Vicky?
Vicky: Barely. Do you know how many lives you almost ruined today?
Jake: I cannot run this business without your mother.
Vicky: Can't you stop thinking about yourself for once?! How did I get dragged into this?
Jake: Vicky, I didn't try and involve you.
Vicky: Why did you keep the tape? For some cheap thrill? Or to use as blackmail?
Jake: Knock it off! You saw the tape. Your mother's real feelings for me were on the tape. That's why I kept it, Vicky.
Vicky: "Real feelings." She was hurt and desperately lonely.
Jake: And she wanted me, Vick.
Vicky: Because you manipulated her, Jake. I know how persuasive you can be when you want something. Your manipulation cost me my marriage. Remember that?
Jake: You really think someone's going to make Donna do something she really doesn't want to do?
Vicky: No, I don't. Which is why this is so hard for me to understand.
Jake: Well, I was there and she needed me.
Vicky: And now she's with my Dad. If you have any decency left, leave her alone.
Jake: Oh, I see. Suddenly you're the good, concerned daughter, right? Hmm?
Vicky: I care about not hurting my father.
Jake: Wait, don't tell me -- someone's spying on us.
Vicky: The last tape. This marks the end of Visions.
Jake: I'm going to talk to your mother.
Vicky: You let her rest. Don't you make this any worse.
Vicky: One more thing.
Jake: Oh, there's more.
Vicky: Stay away from my sister.
[Knock on door]
Taylor: It's Taylor Benson.
Sharlene: Goody gumdrops.
Taylor: Hello, Sharly.
Sharlene: What do you want?
Taylor: It's lights out in a half an hour. I thought I'd come by and see if there's anything you need before I left.
Sharlene: All I want is out of here. You are keeping me here against my will.
Taylor: I know you're angry, Sharly. You could use that anger constructively.
Sharlene: Oh, I can't wait to hear this.
Taylor: There are ways of dealing with Sharlene besides trying to destroy her. Why don't you think about that?
Sharlene: And why don't you think about the fact that I am on to you. John's calling the shots here. He wants Sharlene, and you are dying to deliver.
Taylor: I don't play favorites, Sharly.
Sharlene: You don't think I know, do you?
Taylor: Know what?
Sharlene: That you have a major league case on Johnny boy. It's written all over that sensitive face of yours. So I'll make you a deal.
Taylor: You will?
Sharlene: Yeah. It's real simple. You let me out of here, and I can get the man I want and you can get John. What do you say?
Taylor: I say no deal.
[Knock on door]
Marley: Thought I'd find you here.
Jake: This is not a good time.
Marley: I think it's a good time when someone you care about needs you.
Josie: I don't understand. I thought you were going to some party.
Shawn: I wanted to be with you. I've always wanted to be with you.
Josie: You have?
Shawn: Just like the guy in the article who you put the spell on. He couldn't get you out of his system, and I can't either.
Josie: Listen, I just made that stuff up.
Shawn: He loved your fresh face. And I love it, too. I love everything about you.
Josie: Well, you could've at least called. I mean, you don't have to just sneak up on a person.
Shawn: Isn't this more exciting?
Josie: Not to me.
Shawn: You might not have wanted to go with me. I couldn't take that chance.
Josie: Go with you?
Shawn: The other night in the parking garage. Last night at your place.
Josie: That was you?
Shawn: Surprised? Just wait till you see what I've got arranged for us.
Josie: "For us"?
Shawn: We're going to go away together to a place where we can be alone and no one will bother us.
Josie: You're the one?
Shawn: We're going tonight. It's time.
Josie: No. Matthew!
Shawn: Isn't this more romantic, hmm?
Josie: Leave me alone.
Matt: Get off of her.
Shawn: Oh, what do you care? You don't even want her anyway.
Shawn: Guess it's time to be a man, isn't it?
Matt: Josie, just stay away.
Josie: Matthew, that's enough!
Matt: Just stay back, Josie.
Josie: Don't! Oh, God!
Matt: Let her go. I got you, I got you. Are you ok? It's all right, it's all right. It's ok.
Josie: Thank God you were there.
Matt: It's ok, it's all right. Are you all right?
Josie: Yes, I think so. He must have followed me here. I tried to tell you.
Matt: God, I can't believe it.
Josie: He wanted to kidnap me, Matthew. I -- I can't believe this. That was him.
Matt: Josie, Josie, it's all right. We know who he is. We can call the cops. They'll pick him up. It is over. It's over.
Josie: Oh, Matthew. I knew you'd change your mind. I want to announce our engagement, and I want to get married right away.
Matt: Wait, what?
Josie: Well, you understand now, right? I mean, everything's ok.
Matt: No, no, I don't.
Josie: But, Matthew, you know that I wasn't lying.
Matt: Josie, I -- I understand about the guy, and I'm sorry... but we did not break up because you lied about the fan. I've been thinking about it. We broke up because you've been changing into a different person to me.
Josie: No, I haven't.
Matt: Yes, Josie, Josie. Let's be honest with each other. You want to go to Hollywood and be famous. I want to take things slowly. I really don't want to be Mr. -- Mr. Josie Watts.
Josie: Matthew, you'd never be that.
Matt: Yes. Your career is always going to come first.
Josie: Not always.
Matt: It's probably how it should be. Because that's what you really want.
Matt: Goodbye, Josie.
Iris: Lucas, as usual, I'm the only one who can see this company through any little crisis. I mean, Rachel is off licking her wounds and trying to decide whether she's going to read the codicil or whether she's not going to read the codicil. Amanda's had a nervous breakdown, practically in front of the board.
Lucas: Iris, Rachel has to read the codicil if you're mentioned in it.
Iris: You know, I don't give a damn what's in this codicil because I'm not giving any of this up. I was meant to run this company, and that's exactly what I'm going to do. And if they're going to challenge me, I'm going to be ready for it.
Lucas: Poor Paulina.
Iris: Don't even mention that little imposter to me.
Lucas: Fine, don't worry, I won't. Is this a good tape or a bad one?
Iris: Well, that must be the bad tape because Jake only had one copy of the good one.
Lucas: Well, I'll hold onto it anyway. I'll take a look at it and see what I missed. I'll -- I'll look at it tomorrow.
Iris: Please yourself.
Jake: I really need to be alone.
Marley: I don't think you do. You put up a pretty good front. But I know Donna really surprised you.
Jake: I don't know why anything she does surprises me. Although I wasn't expecting this. You know, we were doing so well. I mean, we were just -- just getting to the bottom of this, and now I'm just at the bottom.
Marley: You've started over before. You can do it again.
Jake: Getting a little old to do that... always being the loser.
Marley: I think Donna's the loser.
Jake: You do?
Marley: Mm-hmm. Want to know what else I think?
Marley: I don't think I've ever felt closer to you in your dreams. I'm not going to let you give up on those dreams.
Jake: Look, Marley --
Marley: I'll give you some time alone. I'll be back.
Grant: I just want to clarify something.
Grant: Whenever this is over, whatever Sharly/Sharlene wants, that's what I want, too. If that means you, then I'll step out of your lives forever.
John: Well, that's real decent of you. Especially considering it's my wife we're talking about.
Grant: But until then, I'm not going anywhere.
John: What about France and your treatment?
Grant: It's going to have to wait.
John: But it won't, and you know that.
Grant: Right now, Sharly is my first priority. I'm going to stay here until she -- as long as she needs me. And then when she gets well, I think we should let her choose.
John: Her decision, huh?
Grant: That's right.
John: Well, you know what I think? I think it's her decision no matter what.
