Marley: [Chuckles] Oh.

Jamie: [Laughs]

Jamie: I don't think I can do it.

Marley: Do what?

Jamie: Go back without you.

Marley: You have to.

Evan: Amanda.

Amanda: Hi. How are you feeling?

Evan: Hmm.

[Machine beeping]

Evan: Well, I -- I feel like a space shuttle landed right on top of me. What the hell happened?

Amanda: I can see your sense of humor is just fine.

Evan: Well, what's left of it.

Amanda: You look a lot better.

Evan: I feel a lot better, seeing you.

[Door opens]

Vicky: Oh, I wish I had my camera.

Amanda: Vicky, get out of here.

Vicky: This is a moment to capture. It's perfectly poignant.

Amanda: Leave.

Vicky: Well, especially considering that Sam barely made bail. Jamie is off in France somewhere. Rachel is losing her mind. Iris is being Iris. The whole Cory family is going to hell in a hand basket. And the woman who has everything is here playing Florence Nightingale to her former lover. Or not "former," by the looks of it. I mean, could things get any better?

Cass: Oh, Reuben! What is with these files? Where is the brand contract? Brand begins with the letter B. Ergo, one would assume that the B file is where you would find --

Reuben: Visitor!

Cass: The brand contract --

Reuben: Visitor, boss.

Cass: Oh, hello.

Rachel: Hi, Cass. Uh, bad time, huh?

Reuben: No, no. Just for me, Mrs. Cory. See, that scream means I just did something wrong. What didn't I do?

Cass: I asked you to pull the brand contract, didn't I?

Reuben: And I did. For the messenger to send to Jacobs and Banner, right?

Cass: Right.

Reuben: Well, I did it -- half hour ago. He came and went.

Cass: Oh.

Reuben: Oh!

Cass: Well. Good work, Reuben. Thank you.

Reuben: That's what I'm here for, boss.

Cass: Carry on.

Reuben: Bye.

Rachel: Bye.

Cass: [Chuckles] I don't know what's going on with me today. I'm yelling at everyone.

Rachel: Hmm. I know the feeling. I think it's going around.

Cass: Oh, really? What do you have to yell about?

Rachel: What would you say if a young lady walked into this office and she claimed to be Mac Cory's daughter? And then she produced a long and involved letter written by someone claiming to be her mother, saying that, uh, she was Mac's love child.

Cass: [Exhales] I would tell the young lady in question that she was full of organic fertilizer.

Rachel: Excellent. Now prove it.

Paulina: What if Vicky comes back?

Ken: I know where she went. I'll be long gone by the time she gets back.

Paulina: You look so serious.

Ken: Well, it's what I was afraid of.

Paulina: What?

Ken: Rachel suspects you have an accomplice.

Paulina: I didn't say anything. I swear to you.

Ken: I know that.

Paulina: Well, then how does she know?

Ken: Because she's no fool. Look, it doesn't matter now.

Paulina: Well, of course, it matters.

Ken: Well, not in this phase of it. It may down the line if you're not careful.

Paulina: I'll be careful.

Ken: All right, all right. Let's just forget about it now. You've crossed your first hurdle. You've dropped your bombshell. I wish you'd checked with me first, but at least that's done.

Paulina: Yeah. I'm not sure where it's gotten me.

Ken: Hey, we're getting there, Paulina. It's all just right around the corner. And you're gonna handle the rest of it fine. Perfectly. I know. Once we engineer the rediscovery of the codicil -- [Clicks his tongue] It's smooth sailing.

Cass: I'm sure we can sink any claim that this woman makes.

Rachel: I don't know how she got the other half of the photograph.

Cass: She could have an accomplice. I can't see how she could pull this off all by herself.

Rachel: That's what I think.

Cass: Unless --

Rachel: Unless what?

Cass: Well, Paulina has had ample time working in the house. Maybe she got a hold of the original photograph, brought it to an expert photographer and had him fake her half.

Rachel: No, I don't think so.

Cass: Why not?

Rachel: Ken Jordan was in Central America with Mac at this time. He knows the lady she's claiming is her mother.

Cass: So Jordan positively identified the photograph and the woman?

Rachel: Yes.

Cass: That's interesting.

Rachel: What is?

Cass: Nothing. What else does she have?

Rachel: She has the letter.

Cass: My guess would be it's a complete fake.

Rachel: She says she doesn't have the envelope.

Cass: I'll bet she doesn't. And then she found out that you were looking for a nanny and grabbed the job. I mean, what better way to get access to all of this wonderful research on the Corys, right? I think what we have to do is find the inconsistencies in her story. We have to check up on this town in Central America, on Paulina's background.

Josie: I can't even look at it.

Matt: This is your latest layout in "Sophisticate," isn't it?

Josie: Well, yes, I -- I think so. Yeah, um, yes, yes it is.

Matt: Well, at least you have your copy.

Josie: What do you mean?

Matt: Your copy for your scrapbook.

Josie: Oh, right.

Matt: Where is it?

Josie: Where is what?

Matt: Your copy.

Josie: I don't know.

Matt: Well, you do have one, don't you --

Josie: Well, yes. But I -- I --

Matt: But what?

Josie: I gave it to my mother.

Matt: Oh, really? Because that's odd. I -- I could've swore I saw one here last night.

Josie: That's not possible, Matthew.

Matt: Well, I'm sure it is, Josie.

Josie: Well, where? I mean it's -- it's not here.

Matt: No.

Josie: Not in here.

Matt: Let's see. I think --

Josie: It can't be here.

Matt: I think it is, Josie.

Josie: Ha! It's not.

Matt: I'm -- I'm sure of it.

Josie: It can't be.

Matt: Josie, get off the bed.

Josie: No.

Matt: Move. You listening to me?

Josie: What is the matter with you?

Matt: Question is, what is the matter with you? Get off the bed, Josie.

Josie: Matthew.

Matt: What is this we've got here? There's no fan! There's no fan --

Josie: Stop it!

Matt: You've been sending this garbage to yourself, haven't you? Look at this.

Josie: Let me go! Give it to me!

Matt: You've got the gloves and the marker and all the pictures here to do it. What are you thinking? Why are you doing this? You're going to answer me. [Yelling] You're going to give me some reasons why!

Josie: I needed the publicity.

Matt: You lied to me. You lied to your Mom. You made us terrified because you wanted some publicity.

Josie: I never thought you'd find out.

Matt: Never thought I'd find out? What the hell were you thinking about?

Josie: It had nothing to do with you.

Matt: [Yelling] It had everything to do with me! You -- "stay with me tonight, Matt, I love you. Oh, Matt, please don't leave me. I'm so scared." That's crap. And I fell for -- damn it, I feel like an idiot.

Josie: Matthew, I never meant to hurt you.

Matt: You never meant to hurt me? Well, you did. For two months I was worried sick about you! I lost sleep. I -- I gave up my internship just to be with you to make sure you were ok.

Josie: I know, I know. I know, Matthew. And I appreciate it.

Matt: [Laughs] You appreciated it though. Thank you. Thank you. You appreciate it.

Josie: I'm sorry. I -- I don't know -- know what I'm saying. I -- I don't -- I don't know what to say.

Matt: You don't have to say anything. Because I wouldn't believe anything you would have to say. Because everything that has come out of your mouth has been a lie.

Josie: But that's over, Matthew. No more lies. I swear!

Matt: Oh. Why -- why should I believe that, Josie?

Josie: Because I mean it. I will never, never lie to you again. Matthew, I will make this up to you.

Matt: No.

Josie: Matthew.

Matt: It's over, Josie. It is over!

Jamie: You know I had the oddest thought when I turned around and you weren't there.

Marley: What was that?

Jamie: It was like, "ok, Vicky, what now?"

Marley: Vicky.

Jamie: Yeah. Crazy, isn't it?

Marley: Hmm.

Jamie: Did I upset you?

Marley: Do you know what I was thinking when I did that?

Jamie: What?

Marley: I was thinking, "I'm going to show Jamie the real me. The me that's behind all the manners and the polish." [Chuckles]

Jamie: I'm sorry.

Marley: Oh, don't be. You can't be sorry for what you feel.

Jamie: It's just that when -- whenever I get shaken up or surprised, it's usually Vicky who's done it.

Marley: Everyone needs to be shaken up by someone.

Marley: It's good you're going back to Bay City, Jamie.

Jamie: Marley, if -- if you're so anxious for me to go back, why did you want to show me the real you?

Marley: An impulse. Maybe I wanted you to see that Vicky is not the only one who can shake you up.

Jamie: I'm beginning to get the feeling you're right.

Amanda: Evan does not need this.

Vicky: You're going to let her tell you what you need, Evan, honey?

Amanda: You're only here to cause trouble, Vicky.

Vicky: Oh, and you're so good for the guy! Where would he be without you? Probably not flat on his back in this hospital, huh?

Amanda: Fine. If you're not going to move your little body out of this room, I'll find someone who will.

Vicky: Oh -- oh, I don't think you'll have much luck with that. My father's on the board here!

[Door closes]

Evan: Vicky.

Vicky: Hmm?

Evan: What do you want?

Vicky: What kind of question is that? I'm just here visiting a friend.

Evan: You and I are not friends. Not after the last time we were together.

Vicky: Oh, hey, have you ever known me to hold a grudge?

Evan: Yes.

Vicky: Well, not with someone as pathetic as you.

Evan: Thanks.

Vicky: I -- I mean it. I mean, honey, this is what I call --

Evan: Vicky.

Vicky: What?

Evan: I don't want to talk to you right now.

Vicky: I -- I just think it's amazing.

Evan: What? That I survived?

Vicky: Well, not only survived but managed to come out smelling like a rose. I mean, there's poor Sam behind bars, and you, you're lying here getting your you-know-what kissed, fair maiden blubbering over your coverlets. [Growls]

Evan: I'm just a lucky guy.

Vicky: Yeah. Hope it stays that way.

Evan: It will.

Vicky: Clever Courtney is asking an awful lot of questions about you.

Evan: Really? What kind of questions?

Vicky: The pregnant kind. You know, like why you were doing what you were doing when you were doing it, what's your story?

Evan: They know the truth.

Vicky: Do they? I'm just assuming that this little "accident" was unplanned. You did manage to pull an awful lot of other nifty little tricks --

Evan: Vicky, would you get to the point of your conversation? I'm really tired.

Vicky: Well, see, I'm just wondering if it all turned out the way you wanted it to.

Evan: Yeah. I, um, I almost died.

Vicky: But you didn't.

Evan: But I could have and I wouldn't have planned this in a million years.

Vicky: Mm.

Evan: [Coughs]

Vicky: Well, I'm just glad you pulled through.

Evan: Yeah, I bet.

Vicky: No, you want to know what a fool I am? What I just said, that was the truth.

Rachel: Why don't you talk to Stacey after the case is over with? Maybe you can patch things up.

Iris: You are here, Rachel. Oh, Hilda told me I might find you here.

Rachel: You needed me, Iris.

Cass: Hello.

Iris: Yes. Oh, hi, Cass. Well, seeing it's the first anniversary of Daddy's death, I thought that maybe we could spend some time together.

Rachel: Yes, of course we can. Ah, why don't we go home? We've finished, haven't we?

Cass: Yes, we have.

Rachel: Ok, thanks.

Iris: That's a great idea.

Rachel: I'll talk to you, Cass, all right?

Cass: Mm-hmm.

Iris: Oh, bye, Cass.

Cass: Iris.

Frankie: Hi.

Rachel: Oh, Frankie. Um, listen, you could fill Frankie in?

Cass: Absolutely.

Rachel: All right. I'll talk to you soon.

Frankie: Sure. That's an odd duo that just left here.

Cass: [Chuckles] Not today. Today they have all kinds of things in common.

Ken: So, you didn't go to Central America?

Paulina: No.

Ken: Why not? Didn't you want to find out if there really was a Maria?

Paulina: Yes, I just --

Ken: Just what?

Paulina: I had no money!

Ken: There was nobody you could borrow any from?

Paulina: My friends are as poor as I was. Plus, I -- I didn't speak the language. So the whole thing seemed impossible.

Ken: Not if you wanted it badly enough.

Paulina: I did. I do. So I did what I thought was best. I came to Bay City. It was a whole lot closer. And I sent letters everywhere else.

Ken: You what?

Paulina: Sent letters.

Ken: No, you didn't. You're making things up, Paulina. I never said anything about any letters.

Paulina: I know. But I just --

Ken: Paulina! Stick to what we've decided upon, will you? Letters can be traced. If you get caught lying about that --

Paulina: Ok, ok. I'll do what we decided.

Ken: Paulina, that is the only way.

Paulina: I just --

Ken: Just what?

Paulina: Ever since you told me who I was, I've been making up stories, telling people different things. And now I don't know what I've told anyone.

Paulina: This is going to happen, isn't it?

Ken: It can. If you stick to what we've discussed.

Paulina: Even if it does --

Ken: What?

Paulina: My father is dead.

Ken: You can still have what's coming to you.

Paulina: Ah. I'd give it all up in a second if I could just spend a little time with him -- as his daughter.

Ken: I'm sorry, Paulina. You're just going to have to concentrate on the reality of what's happening now.

Paulina: What's happening now is that the rest of the family hates me. They think I'm a lying cheat.

Ken: It's only temporary.

Paulina: You know, sometimes I wish you never came into my life.

Ken: Paulina!

Matt: I'll see you later.

Josie: Matthew, you -- you have to listen to me. You owe me that much.

Matt: I don't owe you anything.

Josie: Then because you once loved me, give me a chance to explain

Matt: Get off me.

Josie: I'm not proud of myself. But I was desperate. I've -- I've never had anything of my own. And when Iris suspended me, Matthew, I -- I felt lost. I had to find a way to make people care about me. I know it was a lie. But it was working so well.

Matt: [Grunts]

Josie: I knew I'd found a way to make people notice me, to get to the top.

Matt: Hell of a way, Josie, you found --

Josie: [Yelling] I didn't think I was beautiful enough! I didn't have the confidence to think I could make it on my own.

Matt: You are beautiful, Josie. It's too bad you can't realize it.

Josie: Wait -- don't -- don't leave.

Matt: I want you to get out of my way right now.

Josie: Matthew, don't -- if -- if you -- if you leave, I'll die.

Vicky: I'm throwing this big bash tonight. All the "in" people in this town are going to be there. Except for you, of course.

Evan: Well, I'm sorry I'm going to miss it.

Vicky: It's going to be a turning point in my life.

Evan: A party?

Vicky: Hmm. Well, see, I've decided I want a rich, full life. And I'm going to go after it. I'm not going to wait for it to come to me. Not anymore. I want love, I want respect. I want a hell of a good time! Ha!

Evan: I can picture that last part -- ooh, careful, careful.

Vicky: [Laughing] Just the last part -- I'm sorry.

Amanda: Ok, Vicky. I think you should leave now.

Vicky: Couldn't get anyone to kick me out, could you?

Amanda: There are strict instructions that Evan is not to be unduly excited.

Vicky: You're the only one who excites him. But I do have to get going to plan my wonderful party. But you're not invited. It's only for interesting, fun people. Bye. Take care. Oh, I'll be sure to, uh, give Paulina your warmest regards.

Amanda: And what is that supposed to mean?

Vicky: Talk to your mother. She'll clue you in. Ciao.

Amanda: [Sighs] I'm sorry. I thought she was going to upset you.

Evan: No. Not a chance. I'm ok.

Amanda: I know you are. And I'm so relieved. You have no idea how much.

Evan: We're both very, very lucky.

Amanda: Sam pointing that gun right at you and then the elevator shaft. I was so scared.

Evan: You saw the whole thing?

Amanda: Yeah.

Evan: Did you tell the police everything that you saw?

Amanda: Everything that I could.

Evan: What does that mean?

Amanda: There is one thing that only you know. Did Sam push you down the elevator or what?

Marley: You better get back to the hotel if you want to get that flight.

Jamie: Are you sure you want me to go?

Marley: You have to.

Jamie: That's not what I asked.

Marley: Jamie, I --

Jamie: But I'm serious, Marley. All you have to do is say the word.

Marley: What about Steven?

Jamie: He can wait another day.

Marley: Oh, I'm so confused.

Jamie: Then why are you getting rid of me?

Marley: I'm not. And maybe I am. I came here to think and I haven't been doing much of that the past few days.

Jamie: Then maybe there isn't much to think about.

Marley: Hmm. These last few days have really changed me, Jamie.

Jamie: How?

Marley: If you don't know that, you're more confused than I am.

Jamie: Come on. Let's go.

Marley: Ok.

Cass: The orphanage, its connection with Central America, the names of people down there --

Frankie: Yo!

Cass: What?

Frankie: Who are you talking to?

Cass: The best dad gum private investigator east of the Mississippi, west of the Ohio, and north of the Mason-Dixon line.

Frankie: Did you actually say "dad gum"?

Cass: No, I would never say a stupid word like "dad gum." Of course not, no.

Frankie: I didn't think you would.

Cass: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to tell you your job or how to do it. But I was just repeating what Rachel said.

Frankie: Well, don't worry about it. I'll get the real story.

Cass: Mary Frances Frame on the job!

Frankie: Yes!

Cass: Mary Frances Frame smiling again.

Frankie: Hmm.

Cass: I'm glad to see that.

Frankie: Yeah, I guess I have been a bit of a downer lately, huh?

Cass: Well, hey. Evan nearly died. Nobody expected you to be anything but what you were, which was great.

Frankie: And now, thank goodness, Evan is fine.

Cass: Yeah.

Frankie: And you!

Cass: Oh, hey, me, what about me?

Frankie: You --

Cass: Oh yeah.

Frankie: Were a brick! You were a rock. You were there whenever I needed you.

Cass: Of course I was.

Frankie: Well, that's not a feeling I'm used to. And it is a feeling I'm going to love getting used to.

Cass: You would've done the same for me.

Frankie: In spades, Counselor. Have you, um, spoken to Stacey lately?

Cass: Ah, Frankie. I'm telling you, she and I have had fights before. But this -- [Sighs]

Frankie: You really wanted this, didn't you? You and your sister working together.

Cass: At first, I thought we were going to make a lousy team. But then things really started to work well. At east I thought so.

Frankie: You know, I hate to be a Pollyanna.

Cass: Oh, no you don't. You love to be a Pollyanna. Remember? And you're about to tell me that Stacey and I will get back together again, aren't you? Go ahead.

Frankie: Well, what's to stop you when the Hudson case is over?

Cass: We'll see.

Frankie: Oh, the only thing that could stop you would be that stupid Winthrop pride.

Cass: Pride? Whatever are you talking about?

Frankie: You! I'm talking about you. I happen to love talking about you.

Cass: It's a good thing I deserve you.

Frankie: And why is that?

Cass: Because if I didn't, I'd start feeling that my luck was running too good and then I'd worry about losing you.

Frankie: You know what's worrying me?

Cass: What?

Frankie: I'm actually beginning to understand you.

Cass: [Laughs]

[Birds chirping]

Paulina: I'm back. These are pretty, aren't they? The woods are full of them. I don't know what they're called. Wildflowers, I guess. The reason I haven't been here in a while is I've been really busy. No, that's not true. I always told myself if I ever had a father, I wouldn't lie to him. I was afraid I might run into someone from the family. Your family. You see, I -- I told them I'm your daughter. And they, uh -- I guess I don't blame them. I mean, I -- I wouldn't really want to share you either. So anyway, I'm not living at the house anymore. I miss your library. Oh, I used to spend so many hours there just imagining you sitting in your favorite chair with all those leather-bound books behind you. And me sitting on the floor at your knee, just listening to you talk about things -- things that I don't know about. And maybe I'll never know.

Paulina: If only you hadn't died, then you could tell them. You could tell them about my mother and you. Then maybe they wouldn't hate me so much. They make me so angry, you know, because -- all I want to do is love them. I mean, is it really so awful to want to be a part of a family?

[Yelling] Why couldn't you be here to talk to me? Tell me about you and my mother. Tell me how it was for you back then. At least Ken Jordan found me. At least he gave me something to hold on to.

Paulina: Oh, Dad. I want you to be so proud of me. I wish I could hear you say, "this is my daughter, Paulina Cory…I wish I could just look up at you and look into your eyes and know you love me, too.

Ken: Hello.

Paulina: How long have you been there? [Sniffs]

Ken: Oh, not long.

Paulina: [Sighs] Why did I have to find out too late?

Ken: I wish I could answer that.

Paulina: All my life I've dreamt about finding my parents. Why did I have to find out too late?

Ken: Hey. What's past is past. Hey. But you've got a future to plan. A bright, wonderful future.

Paulina: [Sniffs]

Ken: Come on. Come on.

Iris: He is still so much with me.

Rachel: Yes, with all of us.

Iris: Yes. I woke up this morning remembering when you told me that he -- he wasn't with us anymore.

Rachel: I didn't want anyone else to tell you.

Iris: I'll never forget that. It really meant a lot to me.

Rachel: I'm glad, Iris.

Iris: So I -- I was wondering if maybe I could, uh, do something for you.

Rachel: For me?

Iris: Yes, well I heard you were having a dinner this evening.

Rachel: It's nothing elaborate, Iris --

Iris: I was wondering, could I do it? It could be a late lunch. And that way if you still want to be alone with the children after dinner, well, you could.

Rachel: Well, Iris, I -- yes, that would be lovely. Thank you very much. Would it be all right if Matthew were to give the toast?

Iris: Yes, of course it would. Thank you.

Matt: You'll die? You -- you'll -- you'll die. That's incredible. You'll say anything, won't you?

Josie: I love you.

Matt: You love your career! Don't get it mixed up. You love the money, the power, everything that goes with it.

Josie: That's not true!

Matt: You made your choice --

Josie: It's not true!

Matt: And I wish you well with it.

Josie: Matthew --

Matt: Josie, I wish I could say it's been a thrill, but it hasn't. Get out of my way.

Josie: Don't leave me! Matthew!

Reuben: Matt!

Josie: Matthew!

Reuben: Matt!

Reuben: Found out, didn't he?

Josie: Everything. You kept telling me to be honest. Why didn't I listen?

Reuben: I don't know, Josie. But I do know that Matt's right. You did choose your career over your life. The question is, are you happy with that? Or are you finally going to get smart?

Evan: I don't want to think about those last few moments.

Amanda: I'm sorry.

Evan: No. It's just that I really thought I was going to die.

Amanda: I know. And I'm sorry. Courtney has been pressing to know if Sam was really responsible.

Evan: All I want to think about right now is you.

Amanda: I just want this all to be over.

Evan: It will be soon.

Amanda: It's not going to be over if the police don't get their details.

Evan: So you told them everything?

Amanda: [Sighs] Everything. I told them about the life insurance policy he took out on me. And the power of attorney. The pistol.

Evan: What else?

Amanda: I told them about the brake lines being cut on the car. And I -- I got all the evidence together.

Evan: What does that mean?

Amanda: I mean the policy and the receipt for the gun. All the stuff that Courtney needs. I got it together.

Evan: You didn't give it to her, did you?

Amanda: No. But --

Evan: But -- [Groans] Ow, ah. But what?

Amanda: There's something that's bothering me.

Evan: Go on.

Amanda: Sam signed the life insurance policy "Sam Fowler."

Evan: So? That's his name.

Amanda: Not his legal name. He doesn't sign legal documents like that. He signs all legal documents "Samuel R. Fowler" --

Evan: Amanda, you spoke to the insurance salesman. He confirmed that Sam bought the -- what are you trying to convince yourself of here?

Evan: I know you've been hurt by all this. And I'm sorry.

Amanda: You are sorry? What are you sorry for? You're the one that almost died. You're the one that Sam went after. I should be apologizing to you.

Evan: No. Amanda, no.

Amanda: You know, you said that to me when you were unconscious, too.

Evan: Said what?

Amanda: You apologized to me.

Evan: Really? What did I say?

Amanda: Well, you mumbled a lot. You said something, it sounded it like you were sorry you were the cause of all of it. What did you mean by that?

Jamie: Beautiful, isn't it?

Marley: How did you get in here?

Jamie: The door was open.

Marley: You're supposed to be packing.

Jamie: My heart wasn't in it.

Marley: I thought we talked about this.

Jamie: I -- I know. And it made sense at that time. Till I started thinking about you here and me on the plane.

Marley: They're expecting you at home. What about your patients? What about Steven?

Jamie: I'm just talking about one more day, for us. Everything is going to be so different back in Bay City. All of this will seem like a dream. I don't know about you, Marley, but I'm not ready to wake up.

[Phone rings]

[Ring, ring]

Marley: I -- I have to get that.

Jamie: No, wait. Just tell me it's ok.

Marley: I have to get that.

Marley: Allo?

Vicky: Allo to you, too!

Marley: Um -- this is going to take a while. I'll meet you on the beach.

Jamie: Fine. I'll see you there.

Marley: Hi, Vicky.

Vicky: Well, where you been, eating bouillabaisse? Swimming on the blue mer? Buying post cards?

Marley: What?

Vicky: Well, where have you been?

Marley: Why?

Vicky: Why? Because you haven't been in your room.

Marley: I am now.

Vicky: Yeah. But you weren't last night. I -- I was calling and calling.

Marley: Well, I -- I decided to take a trip to the country. Um, I ended up staying at an inn.

Vicky: That's a relief.

Marley: Where did you think I was?

Vicky: Oh, I -- I thought maybe some hot French dude whisked you off to meet his Mere and Pere.

Marley: [Chuckles] Well, Frenchmen usually get more serious before they do something like that.

Vicky: Yeah, well, I - I understood that they moved pretty quickly.

Marley: Ah, no such luck, I'm afraid.

Vicky: Well, if you see my ex, tell him that Steven's fine, ok?

Marley: I'll -- I'll tell him if I see him.

Vicky: And -- and tell him Steven misses his daddy.

Marley: Right. Well, Vicky, I have to go. Thank you for calling. Bye.

Evan: I was unconscious and I was drugged.

Amanda: Oh, I know. But, uh, it's got to mean something.

Evan: Look, I probably was worried about you because you were upset. I mean, if I hadn't have shown up --

Amanda: If you hadn't shown up, I would've been the one that was hurt.

Evan: Are you still afraid of Sam?

Amanda: Actually I feel sorry for him.

Evan: Sorry?

Amanda: I'm the one that drove him to the point where he would want to hurt me.

Evan: No, Amanda, that is not true.

Amanda: Anyway, it doesn't matter what I feel. If Sam is telling the truth, then he has nothing to worry about. I've got to go. We're having a special supper tonight. My father died a year ago today.

Evan: That's right. Hmm. You ok?

Amanda: I lost my father. But I'm glad I didn't lose you, too.

Amanda: All right. I've got to go. I'll be back. All right?

Amanda: Get some rest.

Amanda: You know, once, uh, we figure out exactly what happened, we can all start living again.

Evan: Thanks for coming.

[Door shuts]

Ken: Lunch? At Iris'?

Rachel: Yes, I felt sorry for her. I didn't know how to say no. Would you like to come? It would just be family.

Ken: But I'm not family.

Rachel: Yes, I know. I think maybe I'd like for you to be there.

Ken: I'd love to. Thanks for asking me.

Rachel: Good.

Paulina: Mrs. Cory?

Rachel: What are you doing here?

Paulina: I came to pick up a few more of Steven's things.

Rachel: Fine. Do it. I hope you're gone by the time I get back.

Paulina: [Sighs] I don't believe she just said that.

Ken: Don't worry about it.

Paulina: Don't worry?

Ken: Things have changed. Now you just remember what's upstairs in Mac's coat pocket. That will is going to spell it out for everybody.

Paulina: I wish I could spell it out for everyone.

Ken: You can.

Paulina: What?

Ken: I think you're ready. Go back to Vicky's and wait for my call.

[Water lapping ashore]

Marley: Mm.

Jamie: I talked to the airlines. I can take the same flight the day after tomorrow.

Marley: Jamie --

Jamie: No, no. It's a great idea. We can have dinner in Monte Carlo. You wanted to do that. And then tomorrow we can go to Cannes.

Marley: This has nothing to do with dinner or sightseeing, and you know it.

Jamie: All right. I'm staying because I care about you. I want to spend time with you.

Marley: That was Vicky on the phone, Jamie.

Jamie: Vicky and I are divorced. She has nothing to do with us.

Marley: Who are you kidding? She'll always be a part of our lives.

Jamie: Not true. I thought we agreed to forget the past.

Marley: Jamie, that's impossible!

Jamie: Try. Be daring. Isn't that what you want? Take a chance!

Marley: Take a -- this has nothing to do with taking a chance. It's a fantasy.

Jamie: Maybe I believe in fantasies.

Marley: [Chuckles]

Jamie: I'll be in the lobby at 7:00. We'll have a wonderful night on the town.

Marley: And if I don't come?

Jamie: Then I'll get on the plane and go on home. But you'll be there.
