Evan: Maybe she's in Mrs. Wheeler's office. I don't know. Well, then just call me as soon as she gets in. Amanda, Amanda, where are you?

Amanda: Sam.

Sam: I thought you'd gone to work already.

Amanda: We need to talk.

Sam: I'm kind of right in the middle of something.

Amanda: Sam, please.

Sam: Besides we talked last night. There isn't anything else more to say, is there?

Amanda: There's plenty to say, and you know it.

Sam: [Sighs] Ok. What's the problem?

Amanda: The problem is that we don't talk to each other anymore. We don't touch each other. We haven't made love in weeks.

Sam: Every couple goes through rough times.

Amanda: I think this is a little bit more than just rough times.

Sam: What do you think it is?

Amanda: I think maybe our marriage is ending.

Michael: Hey!

Donna: I thought that you would have left for the office by now.

Michael: No, actually Angela fixed us an amazing breakfast. We got shirred eggs, we got broiled mushroom--

Donna: I know, I know. She wanted the rest of the day off.

Michael: Hey, guy, how are you doing this morning?

Mikey: Good.

Michael: Good? Here's Mr. Truck. Try that one. I've been playing with him all morning. Donna, we've got croissants, we've got raspberry jam.

Donna: I know, I know, thank you. I'm not hungry though.

Michael: Oh, come on. You got to eat something.

Donna: I have to get to work is what I have to do.

Michael: [Sighs]

Donna: By the time I get back I hope you would have signed the divorce papers.

Michael: We have apricot Danish that you'll just love.

Donna: Michael, did you hear me? You're holding up the proceedings.

Michael: No, you are holding up the proceedings by not having breakfast with me.

Donna: What do you mean?

Michael: Donna, today I want to--after breakfast, take a long walk in the park. Just you and me. Just to talk. And then I'd like to have lunch somewhere at a wonderfully romantic place. Talk a little bit more. Come on. Just last week you said you weren't sure what the word love meant anymore. Today, I want to show you.

Jake: What can I do for you, Mrs. Wheeler?

Iris: I wanted to discuss some things with you about the "Sophisticate" account.

Jake: Oh, are they technical things?

Iris: No. No, not really.

Jake: Well, I don't do publicity, and I don't discuss the business side.

Iris: Hmm, that's your partners domain, is it?

Jake: Yes, I'm what they call below the line.

Iris: Mm-hmm. And where is the lovely Donna?

Jake: Oh, she's not here right now.

Iris: No. Then she never is where she's needed, is she?

Jake: But I'm expecting her any minute.

Iris: Oh, so I assume I'm just to watch you set up for the next client.

Jake: Why don't I have her call you?

Iris: Tell me who are you setting up for? I mean, what is so urgent that you can't spend two minutes with your most important account.

Felicia: Well, it's a total disaster. You're not gonna believe what's happened.

Jake: Could you be a tad more specific?

Felicia: It's my producer--the cretin, the little back-stabber, the little, the little...

Jake: What did she do?

Felicia: She quit. No notice, no nothing. And she was supposed to do all the research for this interview today. She didn't even bother.

Jake: Wait a minute. Is this the same producer that was supposed to provide the additional crew for the shoot?

Felicia: Yes, yes. And makeup and hair. I'm sorry, Jake. But look, I--I don't think that I can interview Josie under the circumstances.

Iris: Ah, excuse me. Did you say Josie?

Jake: Why-- don't worry! Just--just, uh, relax and I'll go over here on the phone and I'll set up everything, all right?

Felicia: [Mumbling to herself]

Iris: So, you're interviewing Josie?

Felicia: Iris, what are you doing here?

Iris: I was talking to Jake.

Felicia: No, I mean what are you doing back in Bay City?

Iris: I have a business to run, Felicia.

Felicia: What about the subcommittee hearing?

Iris: That was postponed until next week.

Felicia: I know that, I know that. But aren't you supposed to be with Luke. Shouldn't you be in Washington right now?

Iris: Lucas understands that I'm needed here at Cory. And I have every intention of rejoining him before the hearing starts.

Felicia: Ok. How is he? Are his spirits still high?

Iris: Of course. They're higher than ever. I saw to that.

Felicia: [Laughter] Gee, I hope so.

Iris: When is this going to end, Felicia?

Felicia: What's that?

Iris: This charade of casual concern.

Felicia: Charade?

Iris: Yes. When are you going to stop interfering with Lucas's life?

Bridget: Victoria.

Vicky: Oh. Victoria, are you all right, dear?

Vicky: Bridget.

Bridget: I heard you cry out. Did you have a nightmare? You know, sometimes it helps--it helps if you can talk about it.

Vicky: I don't know how much I remember.

Bridget: Well try, dear. Take your time.

Vicky: There was rain. No, it--it was a storm. I was so scared.

Vicky: I don't know. I saw my reflection.

Vicky: In the window. And there was something out there.

Bridget: Was there something in the rain?

Bridget: Well, forgive me for saying this, but I did see you yesterday when you came home and you were so upset after seeing him.

Vicky: Bridget, I--I was fine.

Bridget: Is that because you're so hung up on him?

Vicky: Bridget, I don't--I do not know what I feel about him. But I can tell you one thing. I've been acting very strange lately. But I'm not gonna have nightmares about it. I'm going to find out why.

Sam: No marriage.

Amanda: Are you happy with the way things are?

Sam: Happy isn't a word I use much anymore.

Amanda: Would you look at me? There is a wall that has come up between us.

Sam: [Sighs] Does this have anything to do with our conversation last night about Evan?

Amanda: Partly, yes.

Sam: I told you...I didn't believe a word Vicky said.

Amanda: I know that's what you said.

Sam: Unless I had another reason. And I don't, do I? Because you said it was all a lie.

Amanda: I just don't...

Sam: You just don't what?

Amanda: Nothing, nothing.

Sam: Now, why won't you look at me?

Amanda: Because there's more to it than what you believe... or don't believe.

Sam: I don't follow.

Amanda: You're better off without me. You know that.

Sam: Don't tell me what I know.

Amanda: Why else would you have shut me out in every way?

Sam: I told you I needed time.

Amanda: Time for what?

Sam: To work through things.

Amanda: Sam, you have been saying this for weeks.

Sam: It's the truth.

Amanda: What things? Why can't you tell me?

Sam: I have to get back to work.

Amanda: There goes the wall again. Look at you.

Sam: Actually I was thinking about your mother.

Amanda: What does my mother have do with this?

Sam: Well, she just got back and she's dealing with this thing with Ken Jordan. And should she have to deal with our problems right now?

Amanda: I really don't understand you anymore at all. I don't understand you at all.

Sam: Hi, this is Sam Fowler. Yeah, I need to see you. Right now.

Jake: All right. I want to thank you guys for coming on such short notice. Come on in. I'm really counting' on you. I'll take you through your moves over here. Doug, I worked with you before; you take camera.

Felicia: You know, Iris, I was thinking--I really hate that crack you made about Luke.

Iris: But it wasn't a crack; it was a statement of fact.

Felicia: What happened to that little agreement we had and that little truce?

Iris: You're right. We should change the subject. You know, I'm delighted about all that exposure you're giving Josie.

Felicia: Well, don't be. I'm really doing it for her.

Iris: Yes, but any exposure for Josie is wonderful for "Sophisticate." She is the Sophisticate girl.

Felicia: Isn't that funny? I wonder why you took her out the swimsuit issue?

Iris: She told you about that, did she?

Felicia: Well, she was pretty upset.

Iris: And of course, she confided in you and you leapt to the rescue. How sweet. Oh, of course, she's your stepson's girlfriend, isn't she? And I know what a strong commitment you have to family.

Felicia: Iris, I'll do just about anything to protect someone I love. You ought to know that by now.

Olivia: Hello, Ms. Wheeler.

Iris: Hi, Olivia. You look wonderful.

Olivia: Oh, thank you. Hi, Ms. Gallant.

Felicia: Hello, Olivia. How are you?

Olivia: I'm fine, thanks.

Felicia: Good.

Olivia: Well, Jake's busy I see.

Felicia: No, he's--he's doing just a little insert for my show today, so... he doesn't look busy right now. Why don't you go talk to him?

Olivia: Ok.

Jake: That's great, that's great. Everything working out all right, Doug?

Olivia: Jake?

Jake: Hi.

Olivia: Hi. Could I, uh, have a word with you alone?

Jake: I'm sure we can handle that. Uh, Doug, why don't you help Todd here for a second, all right? What's up?

Olivia: I want to apologize for the other night.

Jake: The other night?

Olivia: I made a fool of myself.

Jake: No, you didn't.

Olivia: Yes, I did. I threw myself at you. I'm shameless.

Jake: I never had much use for shame.

Olivia: But it was for all the wrong reasons. You were right.

Jake: I meant what I said. You deserve someone special.

Olivia: It's a very sweet thing to say. I wish the same for you.

Olivia: Look, you were very unhappy the other night and we didn't even talk about that.

Jake: It's ok... it's ok.

Olivia: If there is somebody in your life and she doesn't realize what she has... well, she's a fool.

Donna: Jake's gonna kill me if I'm late for this interview.

Michael: Speaking of interviews, by the way, I'd say Mikey did a pretty good job on the one you set up for him the other day.

Donna: Yes, he did, didn't he? You know, he was so verbal. I thought that he would take a look at the camera and freeze up, but he didn't. Not my boy. He talked a blue streak.

Michael: You sure all this exposure is good for him?

Donna: It's only a radio talk show.

Michael: And he's only a little kid.

Donna: But I wanted everybody to know how resourceful he was in calling that emergency number.

Michael: Well, I understand that.

Donna: He' a good example for

Michael: I wish we were good of an example

Donna: Darling, let's take a bath. I want to get you up there before a e a l @ `

Michael: No, no, no, no. You're not going anywhere now.

Donna: Yes, I am.

Michael: No, we have to talk. We have a lot to discuss.

Donna: Michael, I'm needed at the shoot and I'm late already.

Michael: Mikey's right, isn't he?

Donna: I beg your pardon?

Michael: About you and Jake.

Donna: What about me and Jake?

Michael: You and Jake--it's simple enough. Your whole world revolves around spending time with Jake now, so much so that even Mikey sees it.

Donna: That's not true.

Michael: Donna, you spend every possible moment with him.

Donna: Well, yes, my work is important to me, you should understand that, and I know how important your work is to you.

Michael: Yes, it is. And my family is important to me too.

Donna: You simply refuse to understand, don't you?

Donna: Then you should love the fact that my work makes me so happy.

Donna: ha it? Or do you feel like threatening me, I mean, I know what that's like--to be threatened by the long hours and the constant preoccupation. I remember complaining about it all the time, and I'm sorry for it. I truly am.

Michael: Donna, I respect you. I respect what you do. Come on, all I want you to do is take some time out of your busy schedule and spend some time with me. Come on today--just take the afternoon, the... all right, a couple hours.

Donna: I can't, Michael. I'm needed at the shoot. We'll talk later.

Michael: Bridget? Hi, it's me. Uh, look, we're giving Angela the day off and I need someone to take care of Mikey. I was hoping that maybe you'd be free. Good. Thank you. I have something very important I have to do.

Jake: The beauty of the equipment is it's so easy to operate. All you got to do is point and shoot. What you see has been taped.

Olivia: Yeah, yeah. Jake, no matter how much you coach me, I'm still going to take terrible pictures.

Jake: I don't think so. How are you doing, Doug?

Donna: Hi, everybody.

Woman: Donna.

Donna: Hi, good morning. .

Jake: Where have you been?

Donna: I'm sorry I'm late.

Jake: The crew didn't show up. I had to hire some freelance guys. I had to set this whole thing up myself, Donna.

Donna: Oh, did Olivia help you?

Jake: She doesn't work here.

Donna: What's she doing here then?

Olivia: I needed to talk to Jake about something.

Donna: Really? Seems like you've had to talk to Jake about a lot of things these days. I would think you'd be awfully busy with your college studies and your college friends.

Olivia: I have time.

Donna: Does Liz know you're here?

Olivia: I have to go now. Thank you for the talk, Jake.

Jake: Take care, Olivia.

Olivia: Simply grand seeing you.

Jake: I ought to...

Donna: Something's odd about that girl. I don't know what it is.

Jake: Iris wants to talk to you.

Donna: Well...

Jake: Well, what?

Donna: Well, what about you and Olivia Matthews?

Jake: Donna, Felicia almost cancelled this shoot. I had to bale it out. If you would hold your end up, we might get to shoot her show on a regular basis.

Donna: Is this all you want to talk about business?

Jake: That's all there is--business.

Donna: What's the matter with you?

Jake: You didn't give a damn about me the other night. What are you so interested in me now for?

Iris: Are you sure it's an emergency?

Felicia: Oh--hi, kids.

Josie: Hi.

Felicia: You look lovely Josie

Felicia: This is our makeup artist.

Josie: Hi.

Felicia: Well, now that we both look lovely, all we have to do is make brilliant conversation for 10 minutes.

Iris: All right, I'll be there straight away.

Josie: All right. I think I can do that. Um... excuse me.

Felicia: Ok.

Josie: I'm glad you're here.

Iris: Oh, hello, Josie.

Josie: I heard about the swimsuit issue.

Iris: Yeah, I'm--I'm sorry about that I wanted to tell you myself.

Iris: Well, that you just weren't right for the shoot.

Josie: Well, who was right?

Iris: We, uh, we went younger.

Josie: Younger?

Iris: Yes, younger.

Josie: I'm not buying that for a minute.

Amanda: He thinks she was lying, Evan. He still doesn't believe that you and I were ever together.

Evan: No, see, he doesn't want to believe that we were together.

Evan: So, what did you do? Did you tell him?

Amanda: No, it doesn't. I don't know if I can live with Sam anymore.

Vicky: Evan!

Vicky: Oh, right. She's not, I'm not. I assume you're not leaving, either. So, why don't we all sit down and talk this all out?

Amanda: We all know just how much you love to talk.

Amanda: I bet you do with everyone.

Vicky: You're mad because I talked to your husband about your little fling with Evan.

Amanda: He didn't believe a thing that you said.

Vicky: Well, then he really is a fool.

Amanda: He didn't believe you, but he knows exactly what you are. You are a liar and a cheat.

Vicky: No, you are a liar and a hypocrite and a slut!

Amanda: Shut up!

Evan: That is enough, Vicky. Now, I want you to leave.

Vicky: You want me to leave? What is this? Why are you on her side all of the... sudden? Oh. I get it. I know what's going on.

Josie: Look, this is my career we're talking about. If I start losing jobs now, that could be the end of it.

Iris: Oh, for goodness sake, Josie.

Josie: Lucas promised me that I would be the featured model in the swimsuit issue.

Iris: Lucas should have realized that it wasn't his call to make.

Josie: Why not?

Iris: Because he's in Washington. And even if he weren't, I'm the one in charge and I make the decisions.

Josie: I know why you did it.

Iris: Yes, I told you why.

Josie: You're jealous.

Iris: Of what?

Josie: Of me and Lucas...

Iris: I beg your--

Josie: ...And the time we spend together.

Iris: My goodness. You're serious.

Josie: Lucas wants to make me a top model. Sometimes he'd rather spend time with me than his fiancée.

Iris: You've done a very stupid thing, Josie. You have made me very angry. From now on, your upcoming assignments are cancelled.

Josie: What?

Iris: Yes, you're under suspension.

Josie: But--

Iris: And that includes the promotional tour.

Josie: But the tour? The tour means everything to me. It's gonna launch my whole career. You can't do that.

Iris: I believe I just did.

Iris: Yes, you did. You overreacted. But now you might realize that in life you have to take the consequence for your actions.

Matt: Uh, Felicia, I don't-I don't think this would be a good--are you ok?

Josie: I'm fine.

Felicia: Are you sure?

Josie: Oh, yes. I'm fine. I just, um...I just need a moment alone.

Felicia: Now be sure to get touched up.

Michael: Ah! You know what? That sounds like the door and I think I will get it. Excuse me.

Jake: Yeah.

Michael: You wait. I bet there's somebody here. Hey, guys. Come on in. Right this way, please. Uh, as a matter of fact, let me move some things here for you, excuse me. Thank you very much. Just put them down here, anywhere you want. Yes, yes, yes. Yes, yes.

Donna: These have to be from you, Michael.

Michael: Why would you say that, my love?

Donna: Because it looks like I just won the Kentucky derby.

Michael: Well, I'd say if you want a guy who gives you one rose, you picked the wrong guy.

Donna: Donna, wishing you and Visions, a bright, bright future. Thank you.

Jake: We really have to get to work here, Donna. Felicia's set to go. I'm sorry, Michael--ok?

Michael: No problem, Jake. I tell you what, though. I will just kind of stand by the sidelines if you don't mind.

Jake: Great.

Michael: Yeah.

Jake: Just great.

Donna: What has to be done? We'll start with the interview and then we'll intersperse some photos from the original shoot here when Josie won the Fresh Faces contest, all right?

Donna: Fine. I think the order ought to be changed, though. Let's use this clip first.

Jake: That's good, that's very good. I don't know what I'd do without you, partner. Ok, why don't you get Josie and Felicia and we'll start this thing. All right? Great.

Michael: Jake, when you got a second, I'd like to talk to you.

Jake: Not now, Michael.

Michael: Oh, I think you'll want to talk to me. I'll be around.

Jake: Fine.

Donna: Ok, our stars are ready.

Jake: All right, you guys look great. Felicia, why don't you take a seat here, and Josie, you're here.

Felicia: Jake, let me give you this.

Felicia: Great.

Jake: We'll get a minute to get you guys ready and we'll start rolling, all right? Ok, Michael. What's the story?

Michael: Well, the story is, Jake, I'm about to make you the offer of a lifetime.

Sam: Olivia.

Olivia: I'm very sorry to disturb you. I just came by to get some stuff that I left here when I was posing for you. I'll be out of your way in a minute. Have a nice life, Sam.

Sam: Olivia, wait. I owe you an apology.

Olivia: Forget it.

Sam: No, I don't want to forget it. I hurt you the other night, and I'm sorry.

Olivia: I'm not a child, Sam.

Sam: I shouldn't have said that.

Olivia: I was only trying to be a friend, that's all.

Sam: Olivia, it is really difficult for me to talk to anyone about what is going on between Amanda and myself. Can you understand that?

Olivia: Well, I've been working with the choreographer on our work-in-progress.

Sam: Yeah? Anything interesting?

Olivia: Sure, yes, I think it's fascinating. A little bit depressing, maybe.

Sam: Let me guess, star-crossed lovers?

Olivia: As a matter of fact, that's exactly what it's about.

Sam: I've got some time. Why don't you tell me the story?

Vicky: You two are at it again, aren't you?

Amanda: At?

Vicky: That's why you're here, that's why you're defending her, and that's why you both have these really stupid looks on your faces.

Evan: Vicky, why don't you just get out of here?

Vicky: And I thought I read you like a book.

Amanda: What do you think she's going to do?

Evan: It doesn't matter what she's going to do or what she says because nobody takes her seriously. Now, I want to know what you meant.

Amanda: About what?

Evan: What you said earlier about hard to be with Sam.

Amanda: I said I didn't know if I could stay with him.

Evan: What do you mean?

Amanda: I don't know. Part of it's me. I just feel so guilty about what happened between the two of us. Being with Sam is really hard.

Evan: I bet it is.

Amanda: And then there's Sam.

Evan: What about Sam?

Amanda: He denies this but he's--he's so distant, so cold. I know that I hurt him terribly, but it seems like the more I'm with him, the more hurt he gets. I just can't take it anymore.

Evan: You don't have to.

Felicia: Well, as I promised you last time, we would be devoting part of today's show to the wonderful and exciting and glamorous world of modeling. And I've kept my promise. We have with us a real live model. And many say that she's going to be the next superstar in fashion. So, please, help me welcome the beautiful Josie Watts. Hi, Josie.

Josie: Hi, Felicia. It's great to be here.

Felicia: Ok, why don't we tell everybody what a typical day would be like for you as a model?

Josie: Well, um, I get up.

Felicia: Right.

Josie: I have a light breakfast, put on a little bit of makeup and I head out on go-sees.

Felicia: Now, what is a go-see?

Josie: A go-see is when you meet with a photographer or a casting director and you have, like, a little interview and you leave a picture. And if you happen to be just right for the part, they call you.

Felicia: I see. And now that's what all models do?

Josie: That's what they all do.

Felicia: And that's how you get started, and that's how you become famous?

Josie: Mm-hmm. That's how you get your book together.

Felicia: What about fans? Do you get a lot of fan mail?

Josie: I get a good amount of fan mail.

Felicia: And--and who are they? Who are the people that write to you?

Josie: Oh, young girls, older women, um... little boys.

Felicia: Little boys? What do little boys write to you?

Josie: Oh, they usually tell me they love me.

Felicia: Do they?

Josie: Yes.

Felicia: Now you brought some fan mail.

Josie: Yes, I did. Yes, I did.

Felicia: Let's see.

Josie: All right.

Felicia: Do you mind showing it to all of us?

Josie: No, not at all. And I haven't even looked at this yet.

Felicia: Oh, good. So, this could be very exciting.

Josie: Oh, let's see this one.

Felicia: Now, do you answer all your own fan mail?

Josie: Oh, yes.

Felicia: You do?

Josie: Yes. I think it's very important

Felicia: No one does it for you?

Josie: No.

Felicia: Really?

Josie: Let's see. I love answering it. Um, "Dear Josie, I want to be just like you when I grow up. Do you do your own hair? Please, can I have a picture of you?" That's--that's very typical.

Felicia: And you send pictures to everybody?

Josie: Oh, yes.

Felicia: So, see--you can write to her and get a picture.

Josie: [Giggling] Please do. I'll send you one.

Felicia: Ok, what else?

Josie: Let's see. Um...

Felicia: Got one in there from a man, maybe?

Josie: Let's see. That one looks like a man's handwriting.

Felicia: Oh, good.

Josie: Let's see. Sealed tightly. I'm nervous, I don't know why.

Felicia: Really? Oh, don't be.

Josie: Oh, no.

Felicia: What is it, honey? What?

Josie: It's--it's me.

Felicia: Let me see.

Vicky: Mom? Please be here. I really need to talk to someone or I'm gonna go out of my mind.

Bridget: Victoria.

Vicky: Hi.

Bridget: Hello.

Vicky: What are you doing here?

Bridget: Well, your father called me and he asked if I'd stay a few hours--

Vicky: Where's my mother?

Bridget: Well, she's, um, at the video loft.

Vicky: With Jake?

Bridget: Yes.

Vicky: Well, good to know people are always around when you need them.

[Indistinct]

Bridget: Victoria, tell me why are--why are you so upset, dear?

Vicky: Bridget... how am I ever supposed to believe that things are going to go the way I want them to, when every time I expect them to, and just hope that they might--they don't.

Bridget: I'm not sure I know what you mean.

Vicky: I thought I was finally handling things the right way.

Bridget: With Evan?

Vicky: Mm...mm-hmm. I thought...that something good was going to happen; I was sure of it. I was sure... a fool.

[Banging noise] And what was that?

Bridget: Well, it's just the men out in the kitchen, dear. They're putting in new cabinets out there.

[Loud banging]

Vicky: [Breathing heavily]

[Grunting]

[Breathing heavily]

Deep voice: Ooh.

Bridget: Victoria, are you all right, dear?

Vicky: The dream--it came back.

Bridget: Did you remember more of it?

Vicky: No.

Bridget: Oh, something is terribly, terribly wrong, Bridget. But what...what could it be?

Evan: Amanda, I want you to stay.

Amanda: No, I've got to go home.

Evan: Well, then, when am I going to see you again?

Amanda: I really don't know if that's such a good idea, Evan.

Evan: When?

Amanda: In a couple of days.

Evan: Well, I can't wait that long. What about tonight?

Amanda: No one can know.

Evan: Like I'm gonna tell somebody.

Amanda: All right. Tonight, late, after everybody is asleep. Maybe I'll call you.

Evan: Amanda... I do love you.

Sam: So, tell me the story.

Olivia: No, I--I don't want to bore you with all the details.

Sam: Well, just give me an idea then.

Olivia: It's that whole cliché thing. Well--um... ok, he wants her but she doesn't want him. And then she wants him and he doesn't want her. And then she's unfaithful to him and he goes nuts, and then she repents but it's too late and on and on and on. It's actually better when you dance it.

Sam: Sounds pretty tragic.

Olivia: Well, anyway, I really should be going.

Sam: Oh, listen, Olivia. Stop by anytime, ok?

Olivia: Sure, yeah. After all, you're still my best friend in this city.

Sam: I'm glad.

Olivia: I want you to know something. I hope that things get better with Amanda. I really, really do.

Sam: Well, Amanda and I have finally turned a corner. So...

Olivia: Good.

Sam: Olivia, wait. So, how does the ballet end?

Olivia: Oh, well, the same way they all end. The lovers are killed.
