Vicky: I know. But I think she is going to give me a job. I think it would be fantastic. She's going to give me a--
Evan: Wait a second, wait a second.
Vicky: What? There is something you should know.
Evan: I donít pace. Evan Bates does not pace. It is in his contract.
Vicky: That is very funny. You make jokes and I am nervous here.
Evan: Well, why does this mean so much to you?

Amanda: This is an incredible opportunity for you.
Sam: Yeah, just like "Sophisticate" is for you.
Amanda: You should go.
Sam: What about Alli?
Amanda: Alli and I will be fine alone for a couple of weeks.
Sam: Why do I get the feeling that you are just dying for me to leave town?

Amanda: I think the separation can do us some good. It will give us the chance to think.
Sam: Yeah, maybe.
Amanda: Then when you get back, maybe we will be ready to get back together again.

Olivia: I hope I am not interrupting. I checked the studio. You weren't there, so I came in the back way.

Sam: There has been a change of plans. I am sorry I didnít call you earlier.

Olivia: Will you be working at the studio again?
Sam: No, actually, I wonít.
Amanda: Oh, Sam. Look, I am really late for a "Brava" meeting. Iris has got to love this. I will be back as soon as I can, all right? I want to spend as much time as possible with you before you leave.
Sam: Donít worry.
Olivia: What did she mean, "Before you leave"?
Sam: That is what I was trying to tell you. Listen, I wonít be needing you for a while.
Olivia: You wonít?
Sam: No, I am going to New York.
Sharlene: I did not say anything to him because he has been sleeping all day.
John: You rescued Mike?
Michael: Yeah. Hey, she was a real angel of mercy, I gotta tell you.
John: What happened?
Sharlene: It was nothing.
Michael: Nothing? Come on. I went to the Pelican club, you know. I had a couple of shooters, couple of beers and, well, I got pretty looped.
Sharlene: Michael, it was not that bad.
Michael: Hey, hey, she took me--I hadn't had anything to eat all day, right? She takes to the back room, she tried to feed me. She gave me a cup of coffee, and tried to make sure I got home safe.
Sharlene: It was nothing. But you're welcome anyway.
John: So, what time you got, doc? I got to get to work. I'm going to be late. Would you excuse me?
John: So you tied one on, huh?
Michael: Yeah, you know, I went to the ho--bar right after the hospital, there, and...

Michael: Well, my shoulder has been better. I just wonít drive, that is all.

Michael: To tell you the truth, I do not know. I figured it was a case of mistaken identity or something.
John: I'd heard that you were with Lucas.
Michael: Well, yeah, he was there.
John: You think there is any connection?
Michael: No, no. I mean, they did not try to shoot him, did they?
John: But why you, Mike? Come on, that does not make any sense.
Michael: Well, you are right. It does not make any sense. Look, I got to go really, actually. I just stopped by to, you know, thank Sharlene, ok? You got some lady there.

Michael: [Chuckles] No, man. I do not have a wife.
Olivia: You must be so excited.
Sam: Yeah, I guess I am.
Olivia: Well, come on. I want to hear all about it. Where are you going to stay? Where is your show going to be?
Sam: Olivia, look, I really do not have time for this. I am leaving tonight.
Olivia: Well, listen, my evening is completely free. So, why donít I run your errands for you? I can go to the drugstore, the cleaners, anything you need to do.

Sam: That is a good idea. Listen, I have to call Caroline. Were you serious about wanting to run those errands for me?

Iris: Well, we will see about that. In the meantime, I would like to draw your attention to the next several issues.

Amanda: Would somebody here please tell me why Vicky is at this meeting?

Iris: We are going to do a full-length feature--a story on Vickyís experience as a single mother.

Iris: No, I could not be more serious.
Amanda: Vicky is not a writer.
Lucas: We are aware of that.
Amanda: Then what on earth are you talking about?
Vicky: Oh, chill out, Amanda.
Lucas: We want you to interview Vicky and help shape the piece.
Amanda: Shape the piece?
Iris: Mm-hmm, without changing the content.
Lucas: Well, if you will excuse me, I have to run.

Amanda: Now, wait. Let me get this straight. I am to interview Vicky.

Vicky: Yes, and we're going to focus on the needs for child care.

Vicky: Aimed at the group of people that are a significant percentage of your readers.
Iris: Demographic samplings show that, right, Vicky?
Vicky: Absolutely, Iris. Evan, do you think it is a good idea or not?
Rachel: This is nonsense. I mean, just because Mitch says you are in danger--nobody's following you. I mean, the only strange things have been happening... all right, I am going to turn into this side street, and then you will prove to yourself nobody is following you. See? Nobody's following you. Sharlene: Where did Michael go?
John: He left.
Sharlene: So soon?
Singer: I fell in love again...
John: What did you guys talk about on New Yearís Eve?
Sharlene: Nothing much.
John: Did you talk about Donna?
Sharlene: John... ahem.
John: What? What, did he ask you not to discuss it with me? I donít understand what's going on here. Why wonít he talk to me?

[Phone rings] This is frustrating. He's my brother, for crying out loud. Hello? Yeah. Well--oh, no. Come on, we have already put so much money into that car.

John: Yeah, yeah. Well, sure, yeah. Go ahead and repair it. I mean, we do not have much choice, do we? Yeah, thanks--I think. Well, your car is going to be in the shop for a whole week.

John: I thought it was going to just take a little bit of work.
Sharlene: All right, well, the burning question is now how do I get to work?
John: Want to take my truck?
Sharlene: And how do you get to the hospital, Dr. Kildare?

John: Mike. He's got a driver and a whole limo for all week. Why not?

Amanda: Vicky knows nothing about being a welfare mother. She is just a spoiled wealthy woman that ran off with her child and came back when the going got too rough.

Evan: It does not matter who writes it, Amanda. You're missing the point completely.
Amanda: What is the point?
Evan: You are handling this whole thing wrong.

Evan: Look, I know there is something else bothering you. It has nothing to do with Vicky or her article.
Amanda: Sam is leaving for New York.
Amanda: The Fogel Gallery is doing a showing--him.
Evan: Well, that is great.
Evan: So, what is wrong?
Amanda: Everything is just changing so fast. It is scaring me.
Olivia: It is not my fault that Sam is going away.
Josie: Well, you certainly are not helping the situation.
Olivia: You never think I help any situation. You are always dying to condemn me no matter what.
Josie: Olivia, the truth is you are always hanging around Sam, flirting like crazy, and throwing yourself at his feet.
Olivia: I do not throw myself at anybody's feet.
Josie: Oh, no? Oh, no? You should hear yourself. "Oh, Sam, I'll do anything to help."
Olivia: I am trying to be a friend to the man.

Sam: Olivia, it is true that you have nothing to do with me leaving. But do you really think it is true that there is nothing going on between us?

Rachel: Oh, you can tell her-- it is all right. This is between Mom and me. I really am very happy to see you. It would be really super if you could help me with this flat tire, and then you could just toddle off home. And then you can give my mother a message from me. You can tell her that I find this an insufferable invasion of privacy. She is over-protective. She always has been. This is infuriating and--
Dan: Does that mean that I should take the food basket back?
Rachel: Absolutely... no. Yes, go on, get it out of here. I donít--oh, ah. Wait a minute. Just let me see whatís... I'll just take this.
Olivia: This is very embarrassing.
Sam: Look, I do not mean it to be. I--I know how you feel about me.
Olivia: No, that is not true. I just--
Sam: And I also know how I feel about you.
Sam: I think you heard me.
Olivia: You have feelings for me?
Sam: Yeah, is that so hard to believe?
Olivia: Yes. I honestly thought that--
Sam: You thought that I just saw you as a nice kid. Not always so nice, but... then again, who needs nice?
Olivia: I do not know.
Sam: And I also realized that you are quite lovely... and talented... and lonely.
Sam: That is a very dangerous combination, especially to a man who is having problems with his wife.
Olivia: I have been very upset about you and Amanda.

Olivia: I have never tried to come between you.
Sam: I know. I just want to make sure that you do not get hurt.
Olivia: How could you hurt me? You have always made me feel so good.
Sam: I just want to make sure that I do not mislead you.
Olivia: You have not. You have only told me how you feel.
Sam: Yeah, well, there is a lot more to it than just that. You see, I hope this time away in New York will help heal the wounds between Amanda and myself.
Sam: And when I come back, I am planning on moving back in with her.
Olivia: I am glad.
Sam: I am glad that we talked about this. So, do you still want to run those errands for me?
Olivia: Sure, sure.
Sam: You are allowed to change your mind.
Olivia: No. I do not change my mind that easily.
Evan: So, Sam is leaving tonight?
Amanda: Yeah, the Fogel had a cancellation and Caroline got Sam right in.
Evan: Well, that sounds great.
Amanda: Yeah, I told him it was a great opportunity. He should not miss it.
Evan: Well, no, he should definitely go.
Amanda: It has nothing to do with us--Sam and me.
Evan: Oh, see, I did not mean to imply that. And like I said, I am not going to push you any more.
Amanda: I know. I believe you.
Evan: And I want you to come up with your own conclusions about who and what you really want.
Amanda: I know, I intend to.
Evan: And if you need me, I will be around. And if you do not, I will stay out of your way.
Amanda: I am really grateful to you for all your help... and your criticism. Guess I'm just going to have to learn how to handle Iris and Vicky, too, I guess.
Evan: Oh, definitely Vicky. She's going to be around for a while.
[Knock on door]
Amanda: Great. Come in.
Vicky: Sorry, I did not mean to interrupt anything, but Iris got called into a meeting, and I do not have an office yet.
Evan: Come in, Vicky.
Vicky: Thank you. Amanda, I thought we should discuss the article that I am writing.
Amanda: Well, I'm afraid that's got to have to wait a little while, Vicky.
Amanda: I am sorry, but Sam is leaving for New York. I have to go home.
Vicky: Well, when do you think--
Amanda: I would be happy to meet with you tomorrow.
Vicky: Any particular time?
Amanda: Probably in the morning. I will give you a call and set it up.
Vicky: Well, Ms. Amanda certainly made a complete turnaround in the last few minutes. You definitely do have a way with her, donít you?
Evan: Well, you see, this is just the beginning. Amanda is coming around more ways than one.
Josie: Hi, John.
Lucas: Hello, John.
Josie: You are not going to believe this, but Lucas wants to do an entire photo layout using me and the farm as a location.
John: No kidding.
Lucas: I will pay a location fee, of course.
Josie: It is all right, isnít it?
John: I think your mother is the one that you ought to ask.
Josie: Oh. Where is she?
John: She is upstairs getting ready.
Josie: Mama? Mama?
Lucas: You know, she should never lose that fresh, natural quality.
John: It is--it is pretty wonderful. My brother, Mike, just stopped by a little while ago. He was telling me about the shooting.
Lucas: It was incredible. It was absolutely incredible-- crazy people running around with guns.
John: Is that what you think it was, a bunch of crazy people?
Lucas: Well, Michael doesn't have any real enemies, does he?
John: None that I know of.
Lucas: Well, I was pretty scared, I donít mind telling you. I mean, it is not every day that you have a drink with a friend and he gets shot.
John: A friend? I did not realize that you and Michael were that close.
Lucas: Well, we have a lot of business in common, yeah.
Josie: I told her all about using the farm for the shoot.
Lucas: That is great. Do we have your permission? I mean, I thought it might be fun to see your daughter work.
Sharlene: It is fine.
Josie: Oh, that is terrific. I want us all to be friends.
Sharlene: It is cold. Is Josie going to be sitting out on a fence post wearing that little piece of lingerie you sent out here?
John: Well, there is a big white thing out here about 50 yards long. It is either Michaelís limousine or a U.F.O. I donít know.
Lucas: Michael is here?
John: No, his driver is taking Sharlene to work.
Josie: Bye, mama. I wanted to show you the barn. It is really nice. We have lots of farm animals. And, oh, we have a beautiful pond about--it's about a mile away. It's really nice.
John: Come on, I will walk you out.
Josie: It might be frozen over, and there's a pasture. The pasture is--that's my favorite...
Amanda: Sam? Sam? Sam?
Sam: Hey, you are back.
Amanda: Oh, I thought I would have missed you. I mean, with the traffic and everything.
Sam: Yeah, yeah, I figured.

Sam: So, I guess I will see you in a couple of weeks.

Olivia: Well, listen, a friend of mine knows a wonderful hotel on central park west. It is very reasonable for that area and it has a great view of the park.
Sam: I was going to deal with that when I get to New York. I think I might take a sublet.
Olivia: Hmm. So, I might have to be in New York in the next few weeks myself. I have to see a friend at the city ballet. And, so, I will call you if I happen to be there--
Olivia: ...Maybe we can go to a matinee or something.
Sam: I do not think that is a good idea.
Olivia: You donít? Well, good luck.
Sharlene: Is there a problem?
Limo driver: No, I just have to pick up Mr. Hudson.

Sam: Why? Well, these are the same critics that crucified me less than a year ago.

Michael: Well, then, let me say how happy it makes me to be able to make one of your life-long dreams come true.

Michael: Yeah, I guess I was pretty looped.

Sharlene: Yeah? Knowing your history with Lucas, what I am about to say, if it's a little too much, you tell me.
Sharlene: What about him?
Michael: Well, you know how hard I have been trying to get information on him and how frustrating it has been.
Sharlene: Well, what's that got to do with me?
Michael: Well, I know how upset you have been about Lucas and Josie.
Michael: But I think that you could really help both of us, actually, if you would be willing to become friends with Lucas again.
John: Yeah. Just--well, wait a minute. You tell me if this is too much, now.
Sharlene: No--you mean, close friends?
Michael: Well, I mean close enough to just get him to trust you.
Sharlene: So--so you're not suggesting--
Michael: Ha ha. No, I am not suggesting anything other than just getting close to him, just so we can see what his life is really all about.
Michael: You can handle that?
Sharlene: Sure I can. Why not?
