Derek: Dr. Jasper? Dr. Jasper?

Stacey: This definitely feels very funny to me, Derek.

Derek: The door was open.

Stacey: Hello! We may -- we came in on our own! I hope you donít mind! You see, there's nobody here.

Derek: Somebody has to be here. Look at the fire.

Stacey: I'll do more than just look at it. I'm freezing.

Derek: Dr. Jasper? Anybody here? Hello!

Stacey: Are you sure he was expecting us?

Derek: He said 9:00.

Stacey: It's 9:00.

Derek: Anyway, look at this.

Stacey: Maybe he changed his mind. Maybe he's just like everybody else and he doesn't want to talk about the red swan.

[Door closes]

Stacey: Ah! What was that? Oh. Put me down. I'm all right.

Derek: Stay here. I'll go see.

Stacey: I -- oh.

Derek: Stacey?

Stacey: What?

Derek: It was just the wind.

Stacey: Then I was right. We are alone.

Derek: Yeah, it seems that way.

Stacey: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Derek: If you're wondering if maybe we were set up, yeah, you bet I am.

Stacey: Yeah.

Michael: Natalie, this graph is just wonderful. It's exactly what we need.

Natalie: And here's the projections for next year.

Michael: Ok, it looks good. Great, and you can send this out tonight.

Natalie: I'll make copies.

Michael: Great, thanks.

Natalie: Mm-hmm.

Vicky: Does that mean you're calling it quits?

Michael: Oh, honey, I wish it did. I'm just trying to catch up here.

Vicky: Yeah, I thought we could do some catching up, too.

Michael: Well, I'll tell you what -- bear with me, ok? We'll talk.

Vicky: How about a late dinner?

Michael: Ok, all right. Just be patient.

Vicky: Dad, I've got a lot to talk to you about.

Michael: Well, good things, I hope.

Vicky: I'd really rather wait till we had some time.

Michael: Oh. Vicky, things have not been going too well for you lately. I was hoping they'd begun to change.

Vicky: Oh, they're changing, all right.

Michael: Did something happen?

Vicky: With Jamie, he --

Michael: What? He what? What about Jamie?

Jamie: Hi.

Natalie: Hi.

Jamie: Hi. It's really coming down out there.

Natalie: I just have a few things to finish up. I wonít be a minute.

Jamie: Oh, good. I made 9:30 reservations for us at Tops.

Natalie: Sounds perfect.

Jamie: Great.

Natalie: One sec.

Jamie: Ok.

Amanda: It was you, wasn't it? You canceled our reservations at the oak tree inn. Come on, why donít you answer me?

Evan: Can we just drop this, please?

Amanda: No, we canít drop this. Come on, I'm waiting.

Evan: All right. I did it.

Amanda: I donít believe this.

Evan: Amanda, it was just a joke, that's all.

Amanda: A joke? You ruined our trip.

Evan: It's not ruined. I mean, you're going to Bermuda.

Amanda: You know how much we were looking forward to going away. If you didnít want me to go, you should have just said so.

Evan: Amanda, why donít you lighten up?

Amanda: Instead, you let me drive all the way up there for nothing, for no reason. But then that's just what you wanted, isnít it? I had no idea you could be so mean.

Frankie: I'm going to make sure you donít regret hiring me. I intend to make myself indispensable.

Lucas: Bad technique, Frankie.

Frankie: Huh?

Lucas: Too obvious. Now, I wouldnít fall for a seduction scam.

Frankie: What? Oh, my God. You thought I was coming on to you? But, no, Lucas, no. I never meant that --

Lucas: Let me give you a piece of advice. Donít ever start anything you donít intend to finish, especially with me.

[Knock on door]

Iris: Hello, Lucas.

Lucas: Iris. What are you doing here? I told you I'd be working.

Iris: Working? Or is it something else?

Rachel: Sam?

Sam: Yeah!

Rachel: Whew! The car's going to be here in a few minutes.

Sam: Thanks.

Rachel: Ah! And the best part is I just called the hotel and they're going to provide you a cold supper and some champagne when you get there.

Sam: Thanks. I think you are the only one around here who realizes how much Amanda needs this time away, and also how much we need this time together.

Rachel: By midnight, you're going to be in Bermuda.

Sam: Yeah, alone. That's the best part.

Rachel: Pink sand, waves, palm trees.

Sam: You donít have to convince me.

Rachel: And you guys can stay as long as you like, you know. You donít have to be back in a few days.

Sam: We just might take you up on that.

Rachel: Good.

Sam: Listen, could you do me a favor?

Rachel: Mm-hmm.

Sam: I'm donating that picture to Feliciaís art auction.

Rachel: Oh, that's generous of you.

Sam: Yeah. Listen, Caroline is arranging to have somebody pick it up. Could you --

Rachel: That's fine. I'll make sure that she gets it.

Sam: Thanks.

Rachel: I love that picture, but I'm really interested in this one.

Sam: Yeah, the portrait of Amanda pretty much painted itself.

Rachel: Sometimes they do that.

Sam: Yeah. You know, for the first time, I knew exactly how I wanted to capture her. Yeah, it's like nothing was standing in my way.

Rachel: Sometimes that's the result of the place, you know, the environment. The cabin often did that to me.

Sam: Well, maybe it was the cabin. I donít know. All I do know is that that's the best piece of work I have ever done and I am not letting it go ever. I'm going to go see if Amandaís ready, so --

Rachel: Ok. It's pouring.

Sam: Ah!

Evan: Amanda, would you just stop overreacting.

Amanda: Wait, you wanted a fight, didnít you?

Evan: Oh, come on. It was just a gag. I'm sitting in the office, right? I mean, I'm bored to tears, I'm surrounded by paperwork, and I kept thinking about you two running through the leaves hand in hand.

Amanda: Oh, please donít make fun of us. You were jealous and you did something really stupid.

Evan: Amanda, all it was was just a practical joke.

Amanda: I donít believe you. You just didnít want me going away with Sam -- that's it.

Sam: Oh, it was you. I am going to kill you --

Amanda: No, ok, Sam, donít --

Sam: You son of --

Amanda: Donít, donít, donít stoop to his level, ok? He just thought he was trying to be funny.

Sam: Well, it looks like your little plan backfired, didnít it, Ev?

Evan: Yeah, I suppose I owe you an apology.

Sam: Well?

Evan: I'm sorry.

Sam: Huh.

Amanda: Ok. All right, it's over.

Evan: I hope you have a great time in Bermuda.

Sam: Yeah, sure, you do.

Amanda: We will. Sam, I still need some time to get ready and -- and pack and things and I want to have time to say goodbye to Alli, all right? Sam?

Sam: Maybe while we're gone you can start figuring out how to act like a man, huh, Ev?

Iris: I stopped by because something crucial came up and I didnít want to discuss it on the phone.

Lucas: It couldn't wait till morning?

Iris: Obviously, it will have to, seeing you're otherwise engaged.

Lucas: No, no, wait, wait. Frankie and I are finished for tonight. You're dismissed.

Frankie: I am? Lucas, it was just a misunderstanding.

Lucas: Until morning.

Frankie: Oh. I thought you were firing me again.

Lucas: Get dressed.

Frankie: I'll be out of here in two minutes, ok?

Lucas: What's the crisis?

Iris: Are you out of your mind? I donít know what games you're playing, but that Frankie girl -- I mean, she's always snooping around me and my place.

Lucas: Are you sure you're not imagining things?

Iris: No, I am not imagining things. I have proof.

Lucas: What is it?

Iris: After you dropped me off, I rang the lawyer in Maine, the one who's investigating the will, and he told me that somebody who claimed to be my assistant rang him a few days ago.

Lucas: And you think it's Frankie.

Iris: I know it's Frankie.

Lucas: It could be anybody.

Iris: Lucas, you were the only person who knew I had contacted that lawyer, and she was the only one who had access to the number in my desk.

Stacey: I knew I should have worn a raincoat. All my clothes are soggy as can be. What's that?

Derek: Listen. "Welcome, Ms. Winthrop and Mr. Dane. My deepest apologies for not being present to greet you. Regretfully, duty calls and I must answer. Please make yourselves at home till I can join you. I do hope this Bordeaux will warm your spirits. Sincerely, Dr. Horace Jasper."

Stacey: Aha. Well, at least we weren't trespassing.

Derek: I guess there's nothing for us to do but sit and wait.

Stacey: Yeah. Donít -- donít sit on that chair. You'll ruin it. You're soaking wet.

Derek: Yeah, you're right. I could use a towel, though.

Stacey: Hey, me, too. I could use a blanket.

Derek: Oh, are you still cold?

Stacey: Yeah, a little bit. I'm better because of the fire, but I'm just soggy. How about you?

Derek: I am cold.

Stacey: Oh.

Derek: There's got to be something around here. Let me check this.

Derek: Hey, Stacey?

Stacey: What?

Derek: Look at this.

Stacey: Oh, wow. That's beautiful. Look at this. It must be all handmade.

Derek: Bet it would fit.

Stacey: Are you serious? You think I'm going to put this on?

Derek: I donít see the harm in it.

Stacey: Well, for one thing, it's probably over a hundred years old and costs a fortune. If I spill any of that Bordeaux on it --

Derek: Oh, come on. You'll take care of it. Look, we'll just put this stuff on till our clothes dry. What do you say?

Stacey: Are you going to change into that?

Derek: It's either that or get pneumonia.

Stacey: Well, I -- I suppose you're right. I'm going to put this on.

Derek: Good.

Michael: All right, going ahead with the divorce as soon as you can just means you can get on with your lives quicker.

Vicky: No, but Steven isnít --

Michael: Hey, Vicky, using tricks to get your way only backfires.

Vicky: Look, Dad --

Michael: Now, we know that.

Vicky: I'll use anything to get my son back.

Michael: I know, and that's what scares me. With an attitude like that, you're going to get into trouble.

Vicky: You told me once that Jamie and I are only going to end up hurting each other if we stay connected.

Michael: Right.

Vicky: You were right. Yeah. Now, I'm just afraid that if I divorce Jamie I'm going to end up divorcing myself from my son.

Michael: Well, I understand that. I mean, I -- I felt exactly the same way about you and your sister when your mother and I were separated.

Vicky: You did?

Michael: Yeah. I did. Honey, look, there's been so much pain between you and Jamie. It's clouded your thinking. Look, I'm telling you this because I love you -- let go.

Vicky: I canít. If I lose Jamie, I lose my son.

Michael: It's not true. Even if it were, that's not the point. The point is, is being afraid is not a good enough reason to not go through with the divorce.

Vicky: Isnít it? Itís to me. Dad, I canít see beyond this right now.

Michael: All right, all right, all right. I want you to be careful. People can do anything when they're backed into a corner. There's no telling what Jamie would do.

Vicky: That's exactly what I'm afraid of.

Jamie: Here you go.

Natalie: Thanks.

Jamie: You're welcome.

Natalie: Sorry about the delay. I really thought I'd be finished sooner.

Jamie: Oh, donít worry about it. I'm just glad to meet somebody that has crazy hours like I do.

Jamie: Hey, Mitch.

Mitch: How are you, Jamie?

Jamie: Fine, and what brings you here?

Mitch: I'm here to see Michael.

Jamie: Oh.

Natalie: Mr. Blake, Mr. Hudson's expecting you. Come this way.

Michael: Yeah.

Natalie: Mr. Blake's here.

Michael: Oh, thank you, Natalie. Send him in, please.

Vicky: All right. I'm going to take off, ok?

Michael: Ok, honey.

Vicky: Thanks.

Michael: Hmm.

Vicky: I'll see you later.

Michael: See you. Ok, bye-bye. Hey, Mitch. All right, come on in. Sit down, make yourself at home.

Mitch: Sure.

Michael: Be with you in a sec.

Mitch: Vicky, I hope I'm not interrupting.

Vicky: Oh, no, donít worry about it.

Jamie: Hello, Vicky.

Vicky: Hello, Jamie.

Lucas: Keep your voice down. Why do you think it's Frankie?

Iris: Because I caught her. I remember. I saw her closing my desk drawer.

Lucas: She must be making a habit of doing that.

Iris: And later on I checked to see if anything was missing, and sure enough, the paper with the lawyer's number and it was gone.

Lucas: That's very interesting.

Iris: It's very nerve-racking. I thought you said you had her under control.

Lucas: I do.

[Door opens]

Frankie: See? I told you I could be quick. Had to be. It was either that or get laughed out of the girls' locker room. Oh. Luckily, nothing shrank from the rain. Mrs. Wheeler, I'm glad you're here. I --

Iris: Are you?

Frankie: Wanted to give you this. I took it from your desk.

Iris: Did you?

Frankie: Yes, and I shouldnít have. I'm sorry. But, well -- it's -- it's a long story. I was working for Cass, and --

Iris: For Cass?

Frankie: Yes, I was shadowing Lucas, but that's over now.

Iris: Why?

Frankie: Because we couldn't find anything.

Iris: No. I mean why were you working for Cass?

Frankie: Because he hired me. I'm a P.I., or I was.

Iris: And what did Cass want to know about Lucas?

Frankie: Oh, everything -- preferably dirt, but Lucas was clean.

Iris: And Cass gave up?

Frankie: Cass and I had a parting of the ways. I'm sure you can understand that.

Iris: And now you're working for Lucas. How very convenient for you.

Frankie: Hey, who would you rather work for?

Iris: Did you phone this number?

Lucas: Frankie?

Frankie: Yes, I did.

Iris: And what did you learn from this call?

Frankie: Something about a will. But I'm sure you wonít need one of those for decades.

Iris: I hope not.

Frankie: Well, you have a couple of good years left in you. Well, time for me to hit the sack.

Lucas: Say good night, Frankie.

Frankie: "Good night, Frankie." I'll be here at 9:00 sharp. Ciao.

Iris: This is a disaster. What are you going to do about it?

Lucas: Nothing yet.

Iris: Well, you surely donít think she's telling the truth, do you?

Lucas: Donít worry. I'll find out.

Stacey: I canít believe it. You were right. It fits.

Derek: Oh, it sure does. Donít -- donít move.

Stacey: Why? What's wrong?

Derek: Nothing. I just want to look at you for a few minutes.

Stacey: It's --

Derek: No, no, it's like you stepped out of a dream or something.

Stacey: Oh, Derek.

Derek: Stacey, you are so beautiful.

Stacey: Thank you. You donít look so bad yourself. I feel like we belong in one of Feliciaís novels.

Derek: Yeah, it's like we stepped back into another century or something. I always wanted to do that -- you know, be a time traveler.

Stacey: Me, too. It's just that things like that donít happen anymore, not in real life, anyway.

Derek: What things?

Stacey: Things like a lady meeting a laborer and being drawn to him in spite of everything.

Derek: And her risking everything just to be with him?

Stacey: And falling in love.

Derek: Even though they both fought it?

Stacey: And living happily ever after.

Derek: Why not?

Stacey: Because it's too romantic.

Stacey: Where did that come from? That wasn't there before.

Derek: Or maybe it was and we just didnít notice.

Stacey: Wait a second. This is getting weirder and weirder.

Derek: Or more romantic. What do you think?

Stacey: I think it looks delicious. Do you think we should?

Derek: Are you hungry?

Stacey: Now I am, yeah.

Derek: Just a minute.

Stacey: What?

Derek: Milady.

Stacey: Milord.

Michael: Jamie, I'm surprised to see you here.

Jamie: Natalie and I are having dinner together.

Michael: Ah.

Natalie: You two know each other?

Vicky: Yes, they do. Jamieís my husband.

Jamie: I was her husband.

Michael: Actually, I'm surprised that you two know each other.

Jamie: Stacey introduced us just the other day.

Vicky: How nice of Stacey.

Jamie: Isnít it? Let's go. I donít want to lose our table.

Vicky: No, you wouldnít want to do that.

Natalie: Good night.

Jamie: Good night.

Michael: Good night.

Vicky: Well, that was awfully awkward, wasn't it? I'm glad I stopped by.

Michael: I tell you what -- Mitch, why donít you just hang in for a sec. I'll be right back.

Vicky: Hmm.

Michael: Look -- if you want to hang around just for a couple of minutes, I'll be glad to take you home.

Vicky: No, no, really. I'm fine and you're busy.

Michael: No, and look, I'm never that busy.

Vicky: Oh, thanks.

Michael: Ok? I guess it must have been a big surprise seeing Jamie with a date, huh?

Vicky: Well, you know how much I love surprises.

Michael: Are you ok?

Vicky: Yeah, I'm fine. You know, it's kind of funny.

Michael: What?

Vicky: Well, I shouldnít care that Jamieís going out on a date, but I do care, and that seems really stupid.

Michael: Well, it's not stupid. Feelings are never stupid. Unpredictable, maybe, but not stupid.

Vicky: I love you.

Michael: I love you, too. Now, I want a rain check on this conversation and on dinner, ok?

Vicky: You got it.

Michael: Ok.

Vicky: Bye.

Michael: Good night.

Mitch: Tough day?

Michael: I've had better. What can I do for you?

Mitch: Do you remember our conversation we were having about Lucas?

Michael: Well, I remember, although it wasn't much of a conversation. You didnít tell me that much.

Mitch: Well, I was about to say the same thing. I had the feeling you knew more than you were telling me and it was starting to bother me.

Michael: Well, I'm doing a real estate deal that may involve Lucas.

Mitch: Well, I know you said that, but somehow I had the feeling that your connection with Lucas might have been more than just a business deal.

Michael: What do you mean?

Mitch: Well, I think you know what I mean.

Michael: Look, I told you I donít trust the guy. I donít know what more you want me to say.

Mitch: Michael, this guy is hanging around with my wife, he's hanging around Rachel. He's up to something, and I think you might have some idea of what is going on with him.

Michael: I'd like to help you, Mitch, but I canít.

Mitch: Why?

Michael: My dealings with Lucas are very sensitive.

Mitch: Michael, come on, I'm not talking about a business deal. I'm not talking about some sort of real estate project.

Michael: Mitch, I would take it as a personal favor if you would drop it now.

Rachel: Thank you, thank you for telling me. Ok, well, the car is out there and ready to take you to the plane.

Sam: Great. Where's Amanda?

Rachel: I thought she was with you.

Sam: No. We tucked Alli in, then she said she had something to take care of.

Rachel: What?

Sam: Oh, I'm not sure.

Amanda: I figured I'd find you here.

Evan: Yeah, I was just seeing what kind of progress Sam was making.

Amanda: I had a feeling that you might be waiting for me.

Evan: You're still on my wavelength, Amanda.

Amanda: Not really.

Evan: Then why did you come looking for me?

Amanda: I didnít.

Evan: Sure, you did. You should be in a limo right now. Why aren't you?

Amanda: Look, there are just a few things that you and I have to clear up.

Evan: See? You did come looking for me.

Amanda: This is serious, Evan. Look, canceling of the reservations was not funny. You're trying to sabotage us.

Evan: "Sabotage us"? Which "us"? You and me or you and Sam?

Amanda: There is no "you and me." There canít be. Look, for weeks I've been trying to convince myself that this whole situation is under control. And then you go and pull a stunt like this.

Evan: Wait -- wait a second. Donít dump all this on my lap. You take what you need, and then you blame me for offering it?

Amanda: What?

Evan: See, I think you like having it both ways. That's it. You've got Sam at home, me in the office. You've got security, excitement.

Amanda: You are really deluded.

Evan: Am I? I think I just forgot my place, didnít I? I hope Sam doesn't make that same mistake.

Amanda: You leave Sam out of this.

Evan: Look, I know we're playing with fire, Amanda, but at least I can admit it.

Amanda: Well, it isnít because of your honesty, Evan. You've got nothing to lose.

Evan: That's right. And I canceled your reservation at the inn because I couldn't stand the thought of you making love to Sam in front of some fire.

Amanda: I donít want to hear this.

Evan: Sure, you do. You like that I'm jealous.

Amanda: You're crazy.

Evan: Am I? You tell me you never think about me that way?

Amanda: Oh --

Evan: Look at me and tell me you never think about me when you're making love to Sam.

Amanda: You arrogant -- let go of me!

Evan: You canít say it, can you?

Frankie: Oh, come on. I canít read lips from this distance, and this rain is not helping much, either.

Lucas: It's part of my nature to be suspicious of people, not just --

Frankie: Suspicious about what?

Iris: You just keep an eye on her. I donít like this cavalier attitude of hers.

Lucas: You're making too much of this.

Iris: Oh, I disagree. Do you know how much is riding on this?

Frankie: No, but I'm hoping you're going to tell me right now.

Iris: Thank you.

Lucas: Come on, you're panicking. You donít even know that your father made a will when he was in Maine.

Iris: I know him, and there is another will.

Lucas: It's pure supposition.

Iris: Well, I donít care what it is, but I donít want Rachel or Cass to get a wind of it.

Lucas: Not going to hear it from me.

Iris: No, but Frankie might overhear something, if she hasn't already.

Lucas: I'm very discreet.

Iris: Well, she's not. Lucas, I do not trust her, and I want you to get rid of her.

Lucas: It's out of the question.

Iris: Well, she's so easy to replace.

Lucas: That's not the point. You canít tell me who to hire and fire.

Iris: Well, surely you can consider my feelings in this.

Lucas: Not in this matter. I donít work that way.

Iris: Well, I'm tired of how you work. And I'm sick -- sick to death of your secrecy and your games.

Lucas: Calm down. We have to do it my way.

Iris: I've had it with your way.

Lucas: I thought there were things about it that you liked.

Iris: There are things about it I like.

Lucas: Hmm.

Iris: Things I shouldnít. You play too many games with too many people.

Lucas: Forget about other people.

Iris: Hmm. You're a man of a thousand faces, you know? Does anyone ever really know you?

Lucas: Hmm. A few have gotten close.

Iris: This close?

Lucas: Most are afraid to.

Iris: Who says I'm not afraid?

Frankie: I'm with you on that one, Iris. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Amanda: How dare you say these things to me.

Evan: Why not? They're true.

Amanda: It's not true. You have some made-up version of me in your mind.

Evan: I'm not making it up, Amanda. It's real.

Amanda: It's not.

Evan: Yes, it is. You know it and I know it. You see, that's the part of you that really scares you. It is real. And that's why you're getting away from here, because it's getting stronger.

Amanda: I am going away with my husband because I love him.

Evan: Fine.

Amanda: And I want to be with him.

Evan: Who are you trying to convince right now? Me or you?

Amanda: You. And I can tell you that when Sam and I are dancing under the stars, when we're listening to the waves roll in, wrapped in each other's arms, or making passionate love on a deserted beach, that I will not be thinking about you.

[Door opens and closes]

Rachel: Where is she? Is she up there?

Sam: I donít know. I checked in the nursery, and she's not there.

Rachel: Well, she's got to be around here somewhere.

Sam: Yeah, I know. I'm going to go check in the studio.

Rachel: You guys have got to get going, you know.

Sam: Oh, I know.

Rachel: We need that plane to be back in Chicago.

Sam: Amanda, where have you been?

Amanda: I went down to the poolhouse. I thought I left my bikini there.

Rachel: Honey, we've been looking all over for you.

Amanda: I'm sorry.

Sam: Look, we'll get you a bikini in Bermuda, if we ever get to Bermuda.

Rachel: Yeah, you guys have got to get going.

Amanda: Ok, ok. Let's go.

Rachel: All right, you have everything?

Sam: Yeah, we got it.

Rachel: Ok.

Amanda: Now, are you sure you're going to be ok, Mom --

Rachel: I'm going to be fine.

Amanda: With the babies, both Alli and Steven?

Rachel: Yes, I brought you up, you know, and I brought Matthew up.

Amanda: Yeah, but both --

Sam: Yeah, and besides that, Matt and Jamie will be here, so that'll be fine.

Rachel: They're going to help.

Amanda: Ok. Donít you work too hard, ok?

Rachel: I wonít. Go, go, go, go.

Amanda: Thanks, Mom.

Rachel: Ok. Quick!

Sam: Thank you.

Amanda: Ok.

Sam: Oh, rain -- oh --

Rachel: Oh. Huh.

Amandaís voice: I will not be thinking about you. I will not be thinking about you.

[Echoing]

Vicky: Evan!

Evan: Vicky, who are you trying to impress?

Vicky: Hello. You.

Evan: Forget it. Last time I saw you, you left your mark right here, and there's a lot of that going around today.

Vicky: Oh, you deserved that slap, and you know it, but you know what? I'm going to do you a favor and forgive you.

Evan: Are you running short of friends?

Vicky: You're lucky I'm in a good mood today. Not only will I forgive you for the crack you made about me being Jamieís seductress, but I'm going to give you a chance to make it all up to me.

Evan: Swell.

Vicky: Feliciaís big charity auction is coming up at Carolineís. Will you escort me?

[Noise]

Rachel: Mitch? Sorry. I didnít know he had an answering service. No, I'll call him back.

[Doorbell rings]

Mitch: God.

Rachel: Hi. Come on in.

Mitch: Gosh, isnít it something out there. What are you for storms?

Rachel: I know it. It's here for a lot of things. Here, let me take this. All right, you want me to get you dried off?

Mitch: No, I'm fine, I'm fine.

Rachel: You sure? You want something?

Mitch: No, I'm fine. Are you ok?

Rachel: I'm better now, now that you're here. I spooked myself. There was a big noise out there. I guess it's the storm. Anyway, I got scared.

Mitch: Well, I'm glad I stopped by. I had a feeling I should check on you.

Rachel: Oh, well, that's incredible, because I just tried calling you.

Mitch: You did?

Rachel: Uh-huh. I shouldnít have.

Mitch: No, it's ok. If you need to, you can call me.

Rachel: I know. It's not right. I mean, you have your own life.

Mitch: Felicia understands.

Rachel: The last thing she needs is for me to call every time I'm lonely.

Mitch: Are you?

Rachel: Yeah, I guess.

Mitch: Where is everybody?

Rachel: Oh -- Sam and Amanda just left for a trip, and Mom is still in town. She's going to stay the night because of the storm. She's at the restaurant. And Jamie and Matthew are out, and the babies are asleep.

Mitch: And you're here alone missing Mac?

Rachel: Yeah. It's his house. It's just all him, you know? It's just hard for me. I look up and I think he should be here. Hard to explain.

Mitch: You donít have to. It's ok. I understand.

Rachel: It doesn't matter how many people are here. It just always seems empty without him.

Mitch: Is that why you're keeping busy here?

Rachel: I'm keeping busy because I got a lot to do.

Mitch: Well, if you donít mind my saying it, I think you might be overdoing it. You look exhausted. It shows.

Rachel: Thanks.

Mitch: I'm just telling you. I'm just being concerned.

Rachel: Well, you're right. I am. I'm really tired. I haven't been sleeping very well.

Mitch: Well, you can try.

Rachel: Now? No.

Mitch: Yes.

Rachel: I'm waiting up for Matthew to get home.

Mitch: I'll do it.

Rachel: No, you donít have to do it.

Mitch: No, I know I donít have to do it, but I --

Rachel: No, no, Mitch, you donít understand. It's just the weather. It's the roads are bad.

Mitch: No, the weather -- I got here all right, didnít I?

Rachel: Yeah.

Mitch: Matthewís in his jeep.

Rachel: Yeah.

Mitch: He'll be fine, he'll be safe.

Rachel: No, I know, but I wonít go to sleep until I know he's home.

Mitch: Well, I will stay here until Matthew and Jamie get here. There's nothing for you to worry about. You can relax and get some sleep.

Rachel: This is ridiculous. You donít have to do this.

Mitch: I know I donít have to.

Rachel: Ok, all right. I really appreciate it, though. It's really nice of you.

Mitch: Just go upstairs, get relaxed --

Rachel: Ok.

Mitch: Get some sleep.

Rachel: But wait a minute. If the babies --

Mitch: If the babies cry --

Rachel: You can get me up.

Mitch: I'll take care of them.

Rachel: Ok. Thanks a lot. Night.

Stacey: Derek?

Derek: In here.

Stacey: Oh, look, this is too spooky. I donít want to go poking around this house anymore.

Derek: I'm just trying to find out if anyone's here.

Stacey: Well, of course somebody's here. That dinner didnít just materialize out of nowhere.

Derek: Well, whoever brought that dinner has vanished.

Stacey: I think our clothes are dry. Let's just put them on and go home.

Derek: Why? Aren't you having a good time?

Stacey: I just think this whole thing is spooky and we've been here for so long.

Derek: What are you afraid of, huh?

Stacey: I donít know. This whole thing just seems unnatural to me.

Derek: Oh, no. It's unusual. Big difference.

Stacey: I hope you're right.

Derek: Stacey, we're together. We've been invited to stay. Dr. Jasper has obviously gone to a lot of trouble to make us comfortable. I donít want to leave now.

Stacey: You really donít?

Derek: No. I'm having the time of my life. I do feel like we're caught in this time warp.

Stacey: Well, maybe Dr. Jasper is caught in this storm and that's why he's not home now.

Derek: That would be the logical explanation.

Stacey: Logical -- what has been logical so far? It's like we've been caught up in the twilight zone.

Derek: Oh, no -- a fairy tale.

Stacey: Yeah, but is it going to have a happy ending?

Derek: Oh, yes.

Stacey: I never realized what a romantic you really are.

Derek: This is what we've always wanted, isnít it? I mean, we're here together, alone, nobody else is around.

Stacey: So you think that this was meant to be?

Derek: Oh. Donít you? I canít imagine a more perfect night.

Rachel: What are you doing here? What's up?

Mitch: Honey, I was just in the nursery, just checking on the babies.

Rachel: Are they ok?

Mitch: Yes. Everything is fine.

Rachel: Oh. Well, this isnít working. I canít -- I canít sleep in there. I haven't been able to sleep well in there since Mac died.

Mitch: Things are going to get better.

Rachel: When? When are they going to get better? Everybody keeps saying that, but they donít.

Mitch: As soon as you learn to let everything go.

Rachel: I have. I just feel empty inside, and it hurts.

Mitch: You canít be everything to everybody. You canít be you and Mac both.

Rachel: Everybody's depending on me, Mitch. Oh --

Mitch: Come on, you're going to get through this. Let's go, come on.

Rachel: I'm sorry -- I'm sorry to dump all this on you.

Mitch: Look, it's ok, it's ok. Just --

Rachel: Look, you donít have to stay, ok?

Mitch: Look, no arguments. Will you just get in bed and try to get some sleep?

Rachel: Yeah, but I --

Mitch: No buts. I'm going to get a chair and I'm going to sit here until you can get some sleep.

Rachel: You donít have to do that.

Mitch: I know.

Rachel: Listen, it's not going to do any good. You canít help me. You're not going to stop the dreams.

Mitch: No. But I can sit here, and I'll be here until you can get some sleep. Come on, just try.

Rachel: I'm so tired.

Stacey: We canít, not here.

Derek: Stacey, it's ok. No one's here.

Stacey: No. What if Dr. Jasper comes in?

Derek: He is not here.

Stacey: Well, you're right. And we've waited so long.

[Footsteps]

Derek: What's that?

Stacey: Hey. Maybe someone's here. Ok.

Man: Hello.

Derek: I guess we should thank you for dinner.

Butler: I've been asked to bring you to Dr. Jasper.

[Clock chimes]

Stacey: Dr. Jasper is here?

Butler: In his office. This way, please.

Stacey: Wait, I donít understand. I --

Butler: Just a moment, Ms. Winthrop. You're to remain here. Only Mr. Dane is to hear about the red swan.

Derek: Look, it's ok. I'll be back.

Michael: You're up to something, Lucas. I just wish I knew what it was.

Lucas: It's me. Did you do what I told you to do?

Man: Yes. I checked the base, like you said.

Lucas: And?

Man: There was nothing inside.

Lucas: Damn.
