Iris: You must be joking. The rags-to-riches story must have really touched the public's pulse. "Brava's" sales have never been that high. Now, I want you P.R. people to jump right on to this. Felicia's new book, "The Lady and the Laborer," ties directly into the shooting. Think of all the free publicity! Think, man. Think. The book is about a wealthy woman and a working-class man. All right? Ok, now, I want you to release some copies to the press early, and by "early," I mean immediately before the shooting goes off page number one, all right? And get back to me.

Ooh.

Evan: Did I hear you right?

Iris: What? Oh! I thought you'd gone back to the office.

Evan: No, I was making a call on the other line.

Iris: You look a little bit pasty-faced. Are you ill?

Evan: Well, a man is dead and you're using it to push a few more magazines.

Iris: Oh. Don't you get on that high moral ground with me. You're as relieved as I am that Jason has joined the not-so-dear-departed.

Evan: He was my uncle.

Iris: Which he was about to reveal to everyone.

Evan: That's not what I meant. Now, I knew him, and Jason wouldn't blow the whistle unless he had some kind of proof. Now, Jason is gone, but it's still around. Don't you understand that if it gets in the hands of the wrong people it's going to lead right to us!

Courtney: Jason sure kept a weird ledger.

Rick: No, my hunch is this was his way of keeping a running account on people, you know, like a diary, but mostly dirt.

Courtney: He did seem like that kind of a guy.

Rick: A lot of familiar names in here.

Courtney: Yeah, including Noah Gradyís?

Rick: Hmm, except that one. Maybe he didn't get a chance to record it in the ledger. I don't know. A Christmas card. I wonder what it means.

Courtney: Well, it must mean something. I don't think Jason held on to things for sentimental reasons.

Rick: Yeah, we're going to have to question Felicia again.

Courtney: I know.

Rick: I hate to say it, but I think that lady's hiding something.

Felicia: Noah? No. Noah.

Felicia: No. No. No. No.

Mitch: Felicia?

Felicia: No, no!

Mitch: It's all right.

Felicia: No, no!

Mitch: It's all right, it's over. Come on. Come on, it's all right. Everything's ok. It's all over.

Doctor: It's all right, Fanny. It's all over.

Woman: Is it really all right, doctor?

Doctor: Well, she's had a tremendous shock. We nearly lost her.

Mitch: I wonder why the sedative that Jamie gave her isn't working.

Woman: What is that shot you gave her?

Doctor: A strong sedative.

Cass: She needs to sleep.

Woman: Hmm, so she'll sleep a good long while.

Doctor: Mm-hmm.

Woman: Fanny? Fanny, it's me, Abigail.

Felicia: A-- Abigail. What happened?

Abigail: You went into premature labor.

Felicia: My baby?

Abigail: You lost the baby, Fanny.

Stacey: She's having a nightmare.

Felicia: No!

Abigail: Because of what you did, God has taken your baby to live with him.

Felicia: No! It's not true!

Stacey: Poor Felicia --

Mitch: I think we ought to try to wake her up.

Abigail: Yes, because of what you did, Fanny.

Felicia: No! No!

Mitch: Felicia? Come on, wake up.

Felicia: No. No!

Abigail: Because of what you did, Fanny.

Mitch: Felicia, come on, it's time to wake up.

Felicia: No. No!

Mitch: Felicia?

Felicia: Don't say that, please, don't say it!

Mitch: Felicia?

Felicia: It's not true!

Mitch: Felicia?

Felicia: It's not true!

Mitch: Felicia, come on.

Felicia: No.

Mitch: Come on, it's Mitch. I'm here. Wake up. Come on!

Felicia: Help me.

Mitch: Come on, come on. Wake up, wake up, wake up.

Felicia: Oh, my God. Mitch! Oh, Mitch. Mitch. Oh. My God. I did it. I did it. I know why, too.

Iris: Are you saying that the police might find something that could implicate us in the takeover?

Evan: I'm just saying that it's possible.

Iris: It's not. It can't be. We've been too careful.

Evan: Oh, yeah, we're safe. You're right -- for now.

Iris: Evan, do you know something you're not telling me?

Evan: Well, I have a source down at headquarters, and the police are still investigating.

Iris: What does that mean?

Evan: It means that the case is open!

Iris: It's not! It's closed! Felicia admitted it, she's confessed, and, I mean, they found her there lying by the body with a gun in her hand.

Evan: No, no, no. She's claiming it was an accident!

Iris: Whether it was an accident or not, she shot Jason!

Evan: Don't you see? It just doesn't make sense!

Iris: It doesn't have to make sense! It was an accident, you know, a perfectly, wonderfully timed accident.

Evan: Yeah, but we can't be the only ones who feel that way.

Iris: Knowing Jason, I'm sure you're right.

Evan: But see, not Felicia. She didn't have a motive. You just better hope that her story holds up.

Iris: Well, it has to hold up. We don't want a full-blown investigation, do we?

Evan: Well, we'll see. And we don't want any kind of investigation. I mean, even a small-scale investigation could be dangerous, and you better keep those pretty little fingers of yours crossed, and you better hope that that strongman turns up.

Iris: What strongman?

Evan: The one that Felicia says she was aiming at when she accidentally blasted away Jason. And the police will stop digging when they find him.

Iris: Well, they still couldn't implicate us with Jason.

Evan: Well, we'll see.

Iris: I had nothing to do with Jasonís murder!

Evan: Of course.

Iris: And anyway, they couldn't connect me with Jason, except for that legal contract for work that I had with him.

Evan: Oh, Iris, come on, that was as phony as a $3 bill.

Iris: Evan, are you deliberately trying to unnerve me?

Evan: Iris, what else did you give to Jason in writing?

Iris: Nothing. Oh, my God. Oh, my God, I wrote those checks. I wrote those checks when he was blackmailing me.

Evan: Oh, that's just brilliant!

Iris: Yeah, but Jason wouldn't be that smart. He wouldn't make copies of checks. I know it.

Evan: Hey, what do you think?

Iris: I think that we're in this together, and you better not forget that.

Evan: Are you threatening me?

Iris: If I fall, you'll be the one who's bruised. You believe it.

Evan: You're the one that planned the takeover, Iris. And for all I know, you killed Jason, too.

[Intercom buzzes]

Vivien: I'll get it! Mr. Clarens must be on duty. He's got a real heavy buzz. Mr. Clarens, this is Ms. Vivien. What's the word? I shall relay the information. Ms. Rachel Coryís on her way up.

Iris: What does Rachel want now?

Vivien: Mr. Clarens didn't say.

Iris: Vivien, I wish you'd clear anybody with me before you admit them!

Vivien: Ms. Rachel Cory has arrived.

Rachel: Is this a bad time?

Ada: All I want to do is keep an eye on her.

Sidney: Just keep an eye on her.

Ada: It's no big deal.

Sidney: No, no, no big deal.

Ada: Sam asked me to.

Sidney: Oh, Sam asked you to.

Ada: He called me before he went to Milwaukee. He'll be home tonight.

Sidney: Tonight.

Ada: Will you stop repeating everything I say?

Sidney: And would you start using your head?

Ada: What am I doing?

Sidney: You're forgetting how you used to hate being checked up on. All anybody had to do was ask where you were going. You blew your top.

Ada: Well, it wasn't anybody's business.

Sidney: You know, if your granddaughter is anything like you, Ada --

Ada: Where is my granddaughter?

Sidney: She is going to hate being treated like a kid.

Ada: She's supposed to be here by now.

Sidney: And you didn't hear a word I said.

Ada: Yes, I did. You said if my granddaughter is anything like me, she's going to hate being treated like a kid.

Sidney: Uh-huh, but you're going to do it anyway, right?

Ada: A promise is a promise, Sharky.

Sidney: Oh, Ada, no --

Ada: Anyway, she still is a kid. Whoop -- ok, now. Cool. Just be cool.

Sidney: I should be cool? What am I going to do?

Ada: Well, hello there.

Amanda: Grandma. I'd like you to meet Dustin Trent. Dustin, this is my grandmother Ada Hobson.

Dustin: It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Hobson.

Ada: And it's a pleasure to meet you, too, Dustin. I picked a lovely table out for you and Amanda, right down front, where you can get the best service possible.

Dustin: Oh, as long as it's quiet.

Ada: You won't hear anybody but me making sure that you're getting perfect service. I always like to treat my special customers to make them happy.

Amanda: Well, grandma, we'll be just fine as long as you just don't worry about us.

Ada: Not a chance. Would you follow me, please? Will this be satisfactory?

Dustin: There you go.

Amanda: Thank you.

Dustin: It's perfect.

Ada: Ok, now, if you want anything at all --

Dustin: Mm-hmm.

Ada: I'll be standing right over there.

Amanda: Great. She always makes such a fuss over me.

Dustin: Grandmothers tend to do that.

Amanda: So, Dustin, I've been really anxious to talk to you, because the last time --

Ada: Here you are. Now, you just let me know when you want to hear the specials.

Amanda: We are probably going to need a few minutes.

Ada: Take your time.

Dustin: You were saying?

Amanda: I was saying that I'm just really curious to hear what you have to say.

Dustin: Mm-hmm.

Amanda: Well, you said that you might be able to tell me something that you found out about video match.

Ada: Are you ready for those specials now?

Amanda: Grandma --

Ada: We have a lovely broiled fillet of salmon with a dill hollandaise on a bed of lemon rice. And we have a rack of lamb for two with garden vegetables.

Amanda: Ahem, grandma, it's right here. It's right on the menu.

Ada: Why, so it is.

Dustin: And I haven't even --

Amanda: Me, either.

Ada: Take your time.

Dustin: You were saying?

Amanda: I was trying to say that the last time that we talked you said that you might be able to tell me something, something more about video match.

Dustin: Yes.

Amanda: Well, you said you could maybe give me a scoop. Isn't that why we're here?

Ada: Why, silly me, I forgot to take your drink orders.

Amanda: We don't want a drink.

Ada: What about you, Dustin?

Dustin: Not right now. Perhaps some wine with dinner.

Ada: I'll bring you our wine list.

Dustin: Fine.

Amanda: Special fee. You said something about a special fee.

Dustin: Well, I wouldn't want to say anything that would incriminate me.

Amanda: Oh, no, no. You're protected as a reporter's source under law, so don't you understand, you have nothing to worry about.

Dustin: Well, I'm not so sure about that.

Ada: Here you are, Dustin. We have a very nice wine list, nothing ostentatious, just very sound. Take your time.

Dustin: Thank you.

Amanda: Dustin, what is the problem? The last time, you just seemed so eager to tell me what you knew. Now all of a sudden, you're just pulling back.

Dustin: Well, you have to give me some more time.

Amanda: For what?

Dustin: For me to get to know you better. I mean, after all, you did lie to me. I'm not sure I can trust you.

Amanda: What are you talking about?

Dustin: The tape recorder, Amanda, where is it? Is it in your purse or in your blouse? Show me.

Singer: It's a cheatin' situation

Sam: Oh, I can't believe this.

Caroline: Oh, the weather report said snow flurries.

Sam: Yeah, well, they lied. It must have snowed six inches the last half an hour.

Caroline: Hey, it could be worse. The last time I was stranded it was -- let's sit over here at this table.

Sam: The last time you were stranded?

Caroline: Yeah, it was far worse than this. It was a major blizzard.

Sam: So you do this a lot, huh?

Caroline: I'm getting used to it.

Sam: Were you alone?

Caroline: No. I was with a friend, actually. It was a bit of fun.

Sam: How did you manage to get home?

Caroline: Oh, we had to wait.

Sam: How long?

Caroline: About two months.

Sam: Come on!

Caroline: It was one night. And we stayed in the cabin. The next morning, we got home. Look, it wasn't that bad.

Sam: So you think we're not going to get home tonight, huh?

Caroline: Well, not unless you intend to ski home.

Sam: Damn.

Caroline: Ok, don't, give it a break. I mean, it's not that bad. We're in this lovely restaurant and this great ambiance.

Sam: Oh, yeah, charming clientele, too.

Caroline: And a four-star menu.

Sam: Oh, yeah. The special is meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

Caroline: Well, that sounds fine with me. Where's the waitress? I'm starved.

Sam: You're not upset at this at all, are you?

Caroline: No. I mean, hey, at least we're safe, and we both got a good sense of humor -- or at least I have.

Sam: Thanks.

Caroline: And most importantly --

Sam: I know, I know. I won first prize at the art show.

Caroline: "I won first prize at the art show." You make it sound like a parking citation. We should celebrate your triumph. Two orange sodas.

Sam: Amanda -- she's going to be worried sick about me, and I'm worried about her. I got to call her.

Caroline: Oh --

Sam: Well, do you have two quarters?

Caroline: Yeah, I got two quarters. Hold on. You'll need them.

Sam: Look, all I need to do is call her and tell her that I'm not going to be home tonight. She's going to love that.

Singer: It's a cheatin' situation

Sam: Argh! Damn. You don't happen to see another phone around here, do you?

Caroline: It's the storm. All the lines must be down.

Sam: Great! Now, how am I supposed to tell Amanda that I am stuck in the middle of nowhere?

Caroline: With me.

Sam: Well, yeah, with you.

Singer: It's a cheatin'

[Music plays]

Amanda: I thought we agreed that this was going to be confidential.

Dustin: As I said, you did lie to me before.

Amanda: I know, and I'm sorry about that. You know I'm sorry. You've got to believe me, I am an honest person -- 99% of the time.

Dustin: Hmm.

Amanda: I would never go back on my word.

Ada: She's upset.

Sidney: She's fine.

Ada: She's yelling.

Sidney: She's talking.

Ada: I'm going.

Sidney: You're staying.

Ada: Sharky!

Sidney: Ada, please --

Hostess: Mrs. Hobson, quick. The new head waiter, he just knocked over the whole pot of vichyssoise.

Sidney: Good.

Ada: Good?

Sidney: Yeah, it wasn't quite right anyway.

Ada: It just spilled?

Hostess: All over. Oh!

Ada: What do you mean, it wasn't quite right?

Sidney: Well, I usually mince the leeks and the onions together. This time I did them separately, and strangely enough, it made a difference.

Ada: It -- spilled the whole pot?

Sidney: You know, I was a little suspicious of the cucumbers, too.

Ada: Spilled?

Sidney: I shouldn't have used those cucumbers.

Dustin: How would you feel if someone pulled that on you?

Amanda: I would --

Dustin: Angry.

Amanda: Yes.

Dustin: Mistrustful?

Amanda: Yes, but --

Dustin: But what? But you'd promise you'd never do it again?

Amanda: You knew I was a reporter and you still asked me out to dinner.

Dustin: Uh-huh.

Amanda: I think I know why.

Dustin: What do you mean?

Amanda: Video match is a front for an escort service.

Dustin: I never said that.

Amanda: No, but that is what you think, don't you? Don't you?

Dustin: Yes.

Amanda: An escort service in Bay City.

Dustin: You're shocked.

Amanda: Well, I'm assuming the word "escort" has a rather loose definition.

Dustin: Rather loose, yes.

Amanda: So how can I prove it?

Dustin: Well, only certain clients have heard about the special fee.

Amanda: Which ones, and what are you talking about?

Dustin: It's rather difficult to explain.

Amanda: Ok, ok. This special fee, what do you get for it?

Dustin: Services.

Amanda: What services?

Dustin: I can get you information if you want.

Amanda: Of course I want. How can you get it?

Dustin: Why don't we go someplace more private and I'll tell you.

Amanda: Fine.

Singer: The answer is blowing blowing in the wind blowing in the wind blowing in the wind blowing in the wind

Ada: I'm not going to do anything, Sharky. I'll be right -- they're gone! Sharky, they're gone!

Felicia: All that I -- that I ever remember was Abigail and the doctor and the hospital and Abigail telling me that my baby had died and that I had lost her because of what I had done.

Mitch: You don't have to go through all this.

Felicia: No, no, darling, I do. She said that Noah was gone and that she was going to leave, too. I swear. That's all that I ever remember her saying.

Cass: What is it, honey?

Felicia: I -- I must have blocked everything out -- I -- when I lost my baby. Oh, God. It was so horrible for me, that I -- I must have blocked out the whole thing.

Cass: Blocked what out?

Felicia: Noah wasn't gone. Noah was dead. And whatever it is that Abigail said to me, I just -- I just didn't accept it. That's why -- that's why she was so mean to me. That's why -- that's why she left me at the boarding house. All the -- all this time I thought it was because I had gotten pregnant when I wasn't married, but that's not it. It's because I -- my God, I killed Noah.

Cass: Felicia, we don't know that he's dead!

Felicia: But I don't understand why I wasn't punished.

Mitch: Because you didn't do anything, that's why. Besides, you were punished.

Felicia: But the police never came? Why -- why wouldn't they come? I mean, why would there be a cover-up about it?

Cass: Why do you say that?

Mitch: You sound like you believe this.

Felicia: It's true.

Cass: We have to talk about it, Mitch.

Mitch: Look, there's no way that she killed anybody.

Felicia: I killed Jason.

Mitch: That was an accident.

Felicia: I'm -- I'm sure I didn't mean to kill Noah, either. I'm sure I must have been at the breaking point. I probably didn't have any other way out, but I'm telling you, I did this, Cass!

Mitch: Why?

Cass: Why would you do this?

Stacey: She did it to save her baby. Do you see, anybody would do the same thing?

Felicia: Cass, Cass, the man who's been following me, he knows. He knows what I did. That's why he's come after me.

Cass: But why?

Felicia: I don't know. He said, "Keep our secret, Fanny." And he said, "Honor thy father." I'm telling you. He knows.

Cass: Ok. Suppose he does know something from the past. Do you have any idea who me might be?

Felicia: Maybe --

Felicia: No, I -- I don't know. I -- God, I don't know why any of this is happening now.

Stacey: Hey, Felicia, why don't I call Lisa --?

Felicia: No!

Stacey: She can talk to you?

Felicia: Absolutely not. No, no, she's been through enough. No!

Mitch: If she calls --

Felicia: I don't care if she calls. You don't tell her anything.

Mitch: She won't know --

Felicia: I don't want her involved. I mean it, you have to promise me that.

Cass: She won't be. I promise you. I promise.

Felicia: Cass --

Cass: Hold on, come on. Hold on.

Felicia: How could I have done this? Why?

Cass: Honey, honey, please, listen to me. We're not sure that you did.

Mitch: What about Noahís landlady? She even said that he was still alive.

Cass: He's a missionary in Africa, she said.

Felicia: I know. I -- I don't know. I -- I can't figure that part out.

Cass: None of us can. But it is something that we're going to get to the bottom of.

Stacey: Cass, listen, we got to tell everything to the police. I mean, what if there's something they find out?

Mitch: No, no, no way. Just forget about it.

Stacey: What do you mean?

Mitch: No cops.

Stacey: But what if it's justifiable? We got to tell --

Mitch: Because they won't see it that way and they'll do anything for a conviction, anything.

Felicia: Stacey, you just don't understand.

Stacey: No, no, I understand the law, Felicia, and it will protect you. You've got to believe that.

Mitch: Yeah, somewhere I've heard that before.

Cass: I agree with Mitch.

Stacey: Cass, how can you --

Cass: No cops. Just not now.

[Doorbell]

Cass: I'll get that. Courtney.

Iris: Bad time?

Evan: No, no, no. Actually, it's a good time. We were just about to take a break from work.

Rachel: Good, then I'm not interrupting.

Evan: No, no, not at all.

Iris: No, Vivien was just about to make us a cup of tea, weren't you, Vivien?

Vivien: Oolong sechung or instant?

Rachel: It's all right, I'm not staying that long.

Vivien: Oolong

Rachel: So, is it ready yet?

Iris: I'm sorry, what?

Rachel: The press release you were editing. You said it was ready and I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I would pick it up.

Iris: Oh, yes, of course. I just -- I'm just so totally disorganized today.

Rachel: I bet you're looking forward to moving into your new office.

Iris: Yes, it's fabulous, isn't it? Daddy's such a darling.

Rachel: I discussed the magazine with him today.

Iris: Oh, yes, he's as excited as I am about it.

Rachel: He says it will be interesting.

Iris: "Interesting"? I'm sure he said more than that.

Rachel: He's rather ambivalent about the magazine. But I'm sure once you have it all underway --

[Doorbell rings]

Vivien: I got it!

Iris: Look, I can't seem to find this. Maybe I'll just messenger it over to you.

Rachel: Oh, it's all right, I'm in no hurry. I'll wait for it.

Vivien: Thank you, Mr. Clarens. Miss Edwards is on her way up with papers awaiting your signature.

Iris: Oh, thank you, Vivien.

Rachel: So, Evan, were you in on the secret?

Evan: Secret?

Rachel: "The Sophisticate."

Evan: Oh -- oh, no, I'm sorry to say I wasnít. See, Iris is so full of surprises.

Rachel: The press is sort of making a field day with this business about Jason. I feel very sorry for Sharlene and Josie.

Evan: Do you?

Rachel: Why wouldn't I?

Evan: Just know how you felt about Jason.

Rachel: I didn't want him dead, Evan.

Evan: Yeah, well, I guess accidents happen.

Vivien: Here she is -- and he is.

Julie Ann: This is detective Graham. We met in the lobby.

Rick: I hitched a ride on her elevator. You don't mind, do you?

Iris: Well, no. Uh, what -- what do you want?

Rick: I'm here to ask you a few questions, Ms. Wheeler.

Iris: About what?

Rick: Jason Frame's shooting.

Iris: Would you like to put those in the other room?

Vivien: Will you check on the tea while you're in there?

Iris: Vivien.

Vivien: I'll check on the tea while you're in there.

Rick: Julie Ann, I'll talk to you later, ok? It's important.

Julie Ann: Yeah, sure. Listen, take it easy, will you?

Rick: Yeah, yeah, sure. Ahem -- now, then, Mrs. Wheeler, if you don't mind, could you tell me what you recall about the night Jason Frame was shot?

Felicia: I told you all I know!

Courtney: Unfortunately, in police work, we have to keep going over things.

Mitch: Your police work probably has no idea where the strongman might be found, does it?

Courtney: No. I thought maybe Ms. Gallant had thought some more about this.

Cass: Look, Iris Wheeler hired all the people for this party. Why don't you go harass her?

Courtney: Rick is at her penthouse right now.

Felicia: I don't know any more than I've already told you!

Courtney: There has been another development.

Cass: What other development?

Courtney: We found this in Jasonís pocket. It's addressed to a Noah Grady.

Mitch: In Jasonís pocket? That makes no sense.

Cass: May I see the letter, please?

Courtney: Do you recognize this?

Felicia: Yes, I do.

Courtney: Noah Grady was your stepfather, right?

Felicia: Yes, he was. This was a Christmas card that I sent him several years ago.

Courtney: How would Jason have gotten hold of it?

Mitch: Well, he was working around here for a few days. Maybe he stole it.

Cass: May I see the letter, please?

Courtney: Do you have any idea why Jason would steal a Christmas card addressed to your stepfather?

Felicia: No, I donít.

Courtney: Unless he thought it was something odd in saving a letter marked "return to sender."

Cass: I'm afraid I'm going to have to insist that you ask no further questions unless, of course, you are charging Felicia with something. Are you?

Courtney: No. No, I'm not. All right, that will be all for now. I'll see myself out.

Felicia: I don't know why I took the gun to the party.

Mitch: Because you were trying to protect yourself.

Felicia: I shouldn't have even gone to the stupid thing!

Mitch: Come on. You've got to get some sleep.

Felicia: Yeah, sleep.

Cass: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Stacey: Oh, Courtney is definitely driving at something.

Cass: But what?

Stacey: I don't know, but if I were you, I would definitely try to find out what it is.

Cass: I think I'll mosey on down to the police station.

Stacey: Cass, the one thing that I do know is that the strongman seems to be everybody's best bet. We'd better find him.

Rick: But what I'm most concerned about is just one of the people that you hired for that party.

Iris: Well, which one?

Rick: The strongman. Can you tell me anything about him?

Iris: No, I -- well, I hired the performers, but I didn't deal with them directly. I got them through an agency.

Rick: What's the agency's name?

Iris: Uh -- gosh -- well, I have it here somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.

Evan: You know, Iris, you had some cards on your desk in the other room.

Iris: Oh, of course I did. Yeah, maybe it'll be in there. Perhaps you could help me find it.

Evan: Mm-hmm, sure.

Rachel: So, you're actually conducting an investigation?

Rick: Well, Courtney and I are looking into it, yes.

Rachel: I thought it was an accident.

Rick: Well, that seems to be the most likely explanation.

Rachel: But you're not buying that?

Rick: We don't want to leave any unanswered questions.

Iris: Well, here it is, and it's called the Tiptop agency. And here's a file that lists all the performers.

Rick: Well, this is great. This is going to help a lot. Thank you very much.

Iris: Good. Will there be anything else?

Rick: Well, this should do for now, but there could be some more questions later on.

Iris: Of course.

Julie Ann: Well, Vivien didn't want to interrupt, but if anyone wants tea it's in the kitchen.

Rachel: I think maybe I'll take Vivien up on that. How about you, Iris?

Iris: Yes. Would you excuse me?

Rick: Sure. Thanks again.

Julie Ann: Oh, you look so serious.

Rick: Look, Julie Ann, I'm going to have to break our date tonight.

Julie Ann: Oh. Ok.

Rick: There's so many weird things coming up with this case, and Courtney and I are just going to have to work late again.

Julie Ann: I understand.

Rick: I'm sorry.

Julie Ann: Well, that is the reason? The case?

Rick: What do you mean?

Julie Ann: Well, you're not having second thoughts again, are you?

Rick: No, no, do not think that. That is not it. That's why I wanted to talk to you. I mean, my schedule is going to really be tight for the next few weeks.

Julie Ann: So we won't be able to see each other, right?

Rick: Well, we could.

Julie Ann: How?

Rick: If we moved in together.

Singer: Wild thing, I think I love you

Caroline: You know, Amanda may have thought that I planned all this.

Sam: How do you plan a snowstorm?

Caroline: Women tend to be suspicious where I am concerned.

Sam: Why do you think that is?

Caroline: Maybe they're threatened.

Sam: By what, your good looks?

Caroline: Maybe. I come across as someone who has lots of confidence.

Sam: Don't you?

Caroline: Yeah, sure, as far as men are concerned. I mean, they're at my beck and call.

Sam: Why do I have a feeling you're being sarcastic?

Caroline: I'm not. I mean, when I really get involved with a guy, I -- you know, I --

Sam: What?

Caroline: Fall to pieces.

Sam: Caroline, I can't even picture that.

Caroline: I don't know why I told you that.

Sam: Well, so you're not the tough cookie you pretend to be. So what?

Caroline: Enough about me.

Sam: Caroline --

Caroline: You know, Amanda is a very lucky lady to have you.

Sam: Now, that's what you call changing the subject.

Caroline: And you're very lucky to have her, but I don't need to tell you that, do I?

Sam: We were talking about you, Caroline.

Caroline: And it makes me uncomfortable.

Sam: Why?

Caroline: Because I feel self-conscious.

Sam: Why?

Caroline: Maybe I wonder what I really have to offer someone.

Sam: Besides a great face and a fantastic figure?

Caroline: That's temporary things. I mean, I'm talking about the long haul.

Sam: All right, fine. Let's talk about the long haul. How about your loyalty? If you believed in a guy like you believed in my work, that guy could probably do anything he wanted to.

Caroline: Yeah, well, whatever that is. I believe in you, Sam. I'm really proud of you.

Sam: Oh, me, too.

Caroline: Sam -- Mr. Modesty, Mr. Self-effacement.

Sam: Well, yeah. I mean, hey, I finally feel like I've done something on my own.

Caroline: Well, your paintings sold in your show.

Sam: That's not the same thing. Rachel backed that show.

Caroline: Hmm.

Sam: Not that I resent it -- I donít. I learned a lot from that episode. You know, I'm not going to refuse that kind of help again.

Caroline: But?

Sam: But even without that support, I could never know if I'd made it truly on my own until now.

Caroline: Sam, you're really going to make a mark in the art world.

Sam: Think so?

Caroline: And I want to be there when you do.

Sam: I'd like that, too.

[Phone rings]

Amanda: That's got to be Sam. Don't stop ringing. Don't stop ringing, please.

[Phone stops ringing]

Amanda: Damn.

Dustin: You're expecting to hear from him?

Amanda: Yeah. Actually, he should be here by now. Sam? Oh, I guess he's not.

Dustin: Maybe he's stuck in a snow bank somewhere.

Amanda: Don't say that.

Dustin: You saw how bad it was outside.

Amanda: I'm sure he's fine.

Dustin: Is he alone?

Amanda: No, he's got his agent with him. Caroline.

Dustin: Ah. Well, at least they have each other.

Amanda: Yeah. Look, why don't we get back to what we were talking about? Take your coat off. We can sit down. Is there anything I can get you to drink?

Dustin: I'd love some coffee.

Amanda: All right. Coming right up.

Dustin: Where's the baby?

Amanda: Oh, over at my motherís. She spends a lot of time there. Too much. Now, about video match -- you said there was only a few men that were approached for the special fee?

Dustin: Right.

Amanda: Do you suppose maybe I could talk to one of them?

Dustin: Well --

Amanda: You did say that you would help me.

Dustin: I'm not so sure about that.

Amanda: What do you mean, you're not so sure?

Dustin: You've led a very sheltered life.

Amanda: What are you talking about?

Dustin: Not sure you're ready to hear it.

Amanda: Why? What do you know about me?

Dustin: You're very attractive, you're a great conversationalist, and you're extremely determined.

Amanda: Well, you definitely have the last part of that right. So, are you going to help me or not?

Dustin: Just how far would you go to get the story?

Amanda: As far as I have to. This is very important to me.

[Knock on door]

Amanda: That's got to be Sam. I'm sure he just forgot his keys or something. Evan.

Evan: Oh, hi, Amanda. I just knew you needed these files, so I just stopped by to -- what the hell are you doing here?

Dustin: I could ask you the same question.

Iris: Rachel, I don't want to waste any more of your time.

Rachel: It's my time, Iris. I'm in no hurry. You go do whatever you have to do with Julie Ann.

Iris: Oh, fine. Ok. Now let's see what we've got here. Oh -- I needed Evanís signature for this, and I've gone and let him go.

Rachel: Iris --

Iris: Mm-hmm?

Rachel: I have an important phone call to make. Could I make it in your bedroom?

Iris: Oh, yes, certainly. Use my private line. Just press button 4.

Rachel: Thank you.

Iris: Ok. Well, that all seems to be in order. What were you talking to Rick about? Not this stupid case, I bet.

Julie Ann: No, it was personal.

Iris: Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot. You're friends, aren't you? I didn't mean to pry.

Julie Ann: Oh, it's ok, Mrs. Wheeler.

Iris: He's such a handsome man, isn't he? And so terribly polite.

Julie Ann: Yeah, he's a nice man.

Iris: Did I sense some hesitancy here? I mean, is everything ok or --

Julie Ann: Oh, everything's all right. It's fine.

Iris: Oh, good. Oh, I know what it is. He works too hard, hmm?

Julie Ann: Well, most cops do, I guess.

Iris: Well, this case shouldn't take him too long.

Julie Ann: Well, actually, I don't think he'll have much time for me at all in the next few weeks.

Iris: Few weeks? Did he say this case would take a few weeks?

Julie Ann: Yeah, it could. Oh, by the way -- I have those pictures from the party.

Iris: Oh, thank you.

Julie Ann: Oh, listen, I think I should run these down to the office and have them faxed.

Iris: That would be great.

Julie Ann: So if you need me --

Iris: I know, you'll be at the "Brava" office.

Julie Ann: Right. Bye.

Iris: Thanks again. Bye.

Iris: Damn you, Jason! Damn you! Vivien!

Vivien: You yelled?

Iris: Yeah, I have to go out for a minute. Could you please tell Rachel -- she's making a call in the upstairs bedroom -- well, just let her out, ok?

Vivien: Ok.

Evan: What's your problem, pal?

Dustin: You still haven't told me what you're doing here.

Evan: Well, that's really none of your damn business.

Dustin: I think you should leave.

Evan: Why don't you?

Dustin: Because I was invited.

Evan: Yeah, right, well, I'm a friend.

Dustin: Yeah, right.

Evan: You still resent me, don't you?

Dustin: So, was it Sam?

Amanda: Yes. They are stranded, but he's ok, thank God. And they're almost sure that the roads are going to be cleared by morning. Why don't the two of you sit down? Evan, I understand that you knew Dustin back when you lived in New York City?

Dustin: I think I should get going.

Amanda: Why? I thought you were going to help me on my story.

Dustin: Maybe another time.

Amanda: But -- Dustin. Perfect timing. Thank you.

Evan: What did I do?

Amanda: He was just about to tell me something very important.

Evan: Yeah? What?

Amanda: Something about video match.

Evan: Look, you don't need to worry about video match now. This Felicia story has just taking a new turn.

Amanda: I already have my angle on that.

Evan: What?

Amanda: Well, Feliciaís life has taken a turn just like one of the heroines in her novels. She just met up with the wrong man at the wrong time.

Evan: Oh, "Jason Frame: Real bad-luck guy."

Amanda: It's a lot more than just bad luck. The Frame family has a real history of violence. Believe me, I know.

Evan: Really?

Amanda: My mother used to be married to Steven Frame. He died in a car crash. And Janice Frame -- Jasonís sister --

Evan: What about her?

Amanda: She tried to poison my father.

Evan: No, no, that's a lie.

Singer: You handed me the star I've been wishing on my heart is flying higher now than it's ever gone there's a beautiful horizon from your arms here I can see don't you know that you've got me right where I want to be? If I don't fall tonight could I ever be more sure? If I don't give enough what have I been waiting for?

Evan: You don't know what you're talking about!

Amanda: Would you just calm down?

Evan: No, no, no, no, I'm not going to calm down till you admit to me that that is a lie.

Amanda: It's not a lie. If my mother didn't do what she had to do, Janice Frame would've succeeded in murdering my father.

Evan: No, no, Janice Frame did not murder anybody. You got your facts all wrong.

Amanda: What is the matter with you?

Evan: Janice and Mac were happily married until Rachel interfered.

Amanda: Who told you that?

Evan: Iris.

Rachel: Well, I'm sorry that took so long. Iris? Vivien?

Rachel: Jason and Iris.

Courtney: Instead of trying to pump me, Cass, why don't you ask me straight out?

Cass: Ok. I get the feeling you're not leveling with me.

Courtney: What do you want to know?

Cass: What have you got?

Courtney: There are some discrepancies in Feliciaís story.

Cass: Such as?

Courtney: The forensics report just came in. Jason struggled with whoever shot him.

Cass: What are you suggesting?

Courtney: That Jason didn't die the way Felicia said he did. This also says that the bullet that killed him was fired at almost point-blank range.

Cass: Felicia wouldn't lie. There has to be some explanation.

Courtney: I know -- the strongman.

Cass: Right. He witnessed the whole thing.

Courtney: I hope we find him or he turns himself in, for Feliciaís sake.

Cass: Come on, Courtney, what are you getting at?

Courtney: I don't think we can call this an accidental death, Cass, not after this.

Cass: So what are you going to call it?

Courtney: Murder.
