Sam: God these things are awful.
Amanda: Oh Sam, you look amazing.
Sam: Yeah, sexy.
Amanda: You are, you know. Come on, finish getting dressed.
Sam: "Sexy sells" -- that's what Caroline says all the time. It makes me want to --
Amanda: Sam --
Sam: Hmm? I know, I know, I know. Finish getting dressed. Yeah, right.
Sam: Look, if that's Caroline with any last-minute instructions, I left.
Amanda: Ok. Hello.
Auntie Rose: Hello, Amanda. It's Auntie Rose from video match?
Amanda: Oh, yes?
Auntie Rose: I was just looking at your application here, and I was wondering if you decided to commit to a video yet. What do you think, dear, huh?
Sam: Who is it?
Amanda: Well --
Sam: Hon, who's on the phone?
Rachel: Oh, Nicole, it's lovely.
Nicole: Do you really like it?
Rachel: Yes, it's a beautiful dress.
Nicole: Thank you.
Rachel: You're going to be there at the -- Samís opening, aren't you?
Nicole: Oh, I wouldn't miss it.
Nicole: How is Sam holding up?
Rachel: He's a nervous wreck, but he's going to do just fine. I have complete confidence in my son-in-law.
Nicole: Well, he's lucky to have so much family support. I know how important that is.
Rachel: Yes, it is.
Nicole: I have several new gowns that I've just finished in the other room.
Rachel: Could I take a peek?
Nicole: Well, sure. You just go on upstairs and tell Sophie I said you need the grand tour.
Rachel: All right, thank you.
Nicole: Caroline. Oh, you look fantastic.
Caroline: Well, thanks to your dress.
Nicole: It does look good on you.
Caroline: I agree. The question is, what's the catch?
Lisa: Who is this? Biff who? Yes, I like horseback riding. The beach at sunset? Sure. No, I do not want to go for a walk on the beach and watch the waves crash against the shoreline. Pervert.
Rick: Is that the same guy who called you earlier?
Lisa: No. Different.
Rick: Well, how many guys you got calling you?
Lisa: I don't know who they are.
Rick: None of them?
Lisa: No, and that's the third one today.
Rick: Well, how'd they get this number?
Lisa: I don't know!
Rick: Do you want me to put a trace on the next one?
Lisa: No, no.
Rick: Well, you said this one was a pervert.
Lisa: Well, he wasn't really. It's just that -- they know stuff about me. It's weird.
Rick: Well, I better put a trace on it.
Lisa: No, forget it, it's ok. I'll just go out and get some air.
Rick: Lisa, you're not by any chance going out to watch the waves crash against the shoreline, are you?
Lisa: Very funny, Graham.
Rick: Well, you never know where you might meet Mr. Right.
Lisa: Take it from me, Mr. Graham, there is no Mr. Right.
Amanda: No, I haven't decided yet.
Auntie Rose: Well, do you have any questions? Maybe I can help you.
Sam: Who is it? Is something wrong?
Amanda: No, just something from the office.
Amanda: Uh --
Auntie Rose: Amanda? Are you there?
Amanda: Yes, I'm still here.
Auntie Rose: You know, the video part of your presentation is very important in attracting the right kind of people.
Amanda: Yes, I know. I'm still thinking about it. Auntie Rose, you really can't be calling me here at home.
Auntie Rose: Oh, I'm sorry, dear. Did I interrupt your evening?
Amanda: No, no. My brother lives with me, and I'm just afraid that --
Amanda: That he would -- he would make fun of me.
Auntie Rose: But when I met him the other night, he was just --
Amanda: Well, I know, I know, but I'd really rather that he didn't know.
Auntie Rose: Well, fine, fine. Discretion is my middle name.
Amanda: Thank you.
Auntie Rose: Well, now, just think about it, though, now, won't you?
Amanda: Sure, I will.
Auntie Rose: And give me a call, honey.
Amanda: I will. Bye-bye.
Auntie Rose: All right, goodbye.
Amanda: You look great.
Sam: I don't feel great. Look, Hilda said she'd be coming over right about now, so --
[Knock on door]
Sam: You better get ready, ok?
Vicky: There's the man of the hour. Hi.
Sam: Hi, Vicky. How you doing?
Vicky: Just a little token for good luck.
Sam: Thanks. Come on in.
Amanda: Hi, Vicky.
Vicky: Hi. Marley said she is so sorry that she can't be there tonight, but she sends her love and all her luck and best wishes.
Sam: She can't come, huh?
Vicky: No. The doctor said she has to stay off her feet for a few days.
Amanda: That's a shame --
Amanda: Especially since she worked so hard to get the gallery ready.
Vicky: I know. So where's my little baby? There she is! Alli, ooh! Hi!
Sam: Hey, Vicky, thank you.
Vicky: How are you?
Sam: These are great brushes.
Vicky: Oh, you're welcome! So when do you have to go?
Sam: Well, as soon as Hilda gets here, and she's late, isn't she?
Amanda: Only a couple of minutes.
Vicky: Oh, when do you have to be at the gallery?
Vicky: Hey, you!
Amanda: We're ok.
Sam: No. Look, why didn't we get a backup sitter? What happens if she doesn't show up?
Amanda: I'll tell you what -- why don't you go ahead to the gallery now, and Vicky can drive me over as soon as Hilda gets here.
Vicky: Sure. I'll do that.
Sam: No, no, I want to take us. That's --
Amanda: No, really, that's fine. It's a great idea.
Amanda: He's been pacing back and forth for an hour.
Vicky: Oh, you will be the biggest hit.
Amanda: Oh, I know that. And you know that.
Amanda: Alli knows that.
Vicky: Of course!
Amanda: The only person that doesn't know that is you.
Sam: I know.
Sam: Look, is this going to be ok? Is this ok?
Amanda: Yes, yes. Really, it's fine. It's positive. Now, say goodbye to your daughter.
Sam: Goodbye, daughter.
Vicky: Goodbye, Daddy!
Amanda: Get out of here.
Sam: Goodbye, snookums.
Sam: Bye, beautiful.
Amanda: I love you.
Sam: I love you.
Amanda: You'll be great!
Sam: Oh, yeah!
Amanda: So --
Vicky: I've never seen him this nervous.
Vicky: Ok, there's a change of subject.
Amanda: Come on, Vicky, are you going to tell me that you turned Jamieís proposal down because you think that he's still in love with Lisa?
Amanda: That's going to fade, Vicky.
Amanda: It may take time.
Amanda: But now that it's over, he's going to be thinking about her less and less and less.
Vicky: Yeah, well, even so, I'm not quite sure he's ever going to be in love with me.
Amanda: Of course he is. And besides, Lisaís got plenty of things going on in her life right now. She's meeting lots of new people.
Vicky: That's true. She will be pretty busy.
Lisa: Uh -- what are you doing here?
Jamie: Rick, you wanted a medical report, right?
Rick: What -- the car accident, yeah, yeah. Thanks, Jamie.
Jamie: No problem.
Rick: That's important. Well -- I'm going to go check something in records. I'll see you later.
Jamie: You working kind of late, aren't you?
Lisa: I guess so.
Jamie: You're not going to the opening tonight?
Jamie: Well, I'm sure Sam would love to see you.
Lisa: I'll stop by the gallery tomorrow.
Jamie: Didn't you get an invitation for tonight?
Lisa: Yeah, I did.
Jamie: But this paperwork is more important?
Lisa: I'm not going because I didn't want to see you there, ok?
Jamie: You can't even be in the same room with me? Why?
Lisa: You know why, Jamie. Seeing you at -- I just can't handle it, ok?
Jamie: No, it's not ok.
Lisa: The hospital, the Pelican club, the police station -- everywhere I go, I run into you, Jamie, and it hurts. I'm not going to put myself through it deliberately.
Jamie: I'm sorry.
Lisa: I am, too.
Jamie: It hurts me, too. I've missed being with you, Lisa. I miss you.
Lisa: I miss you, too.
Jamie: Then why do we have to pretend?
Lisa: No -- no! You can't touch me! You can't hold me!
Lisa: Because we're not pretending. We made a decision, and we're going to live by it. And we cannot go on pretending anything else!
Caroline: You're trying to tell me you'd give me this dress?
Nicole: You're perfect for it.
Caroline: Come on, let's be honest.
Nicole: Caroline, you are right for the dress, and I wanted you to have it, that's all.
Nicole: Cass, hi.
Cass: Hi! Don't tell me, let me guess. This must be a new dress from your success line?
Nicole: That's right. It looks terrific on her, doesn't it?
Cass: I will say -- yes.
Cass: It looks absolutely fan-- this definitely is some of the best work you've ever done.
Nicole: Well, thank you.
Caroline: Isn't it marvelous how Nicole is bending over backwards for me?
Nicole: Well, this is a very big night for you, Caroline, and I just wanted to make sure you felt completely welcome here in Bay City.
Cass: You did?
Nicole: Yes. She looks smashing.
Nicole: She'll be the hit of the party.
Cass: She will.
Rachel: I'm so glad I had another choice! I like this one better, don't you think?
Nicole: I do, too, much better.
Cass: That's very nice, Rachel.
Rachel: Oh, good, thanks.
Nicole: Ok, well, let me find the receipt for that.
Nicole: Excuse me.
Cass: Hey, would you excuse me, too, ladies?
Rachel: Yeah, sure. Oh, let me see. You look terrific!
Caroline: Thanks. Well, I hope tonight's a huge success.
Rachel: Oh, I'm sure it will be. You've done such a terrific job.
Caroline: Well, you know, I have had proper backing.
Rachel: Yeah. Well, I was glad I could do it. Sam is so talented. He's a lot more talented than he thinks he is.
Caroline: I think you might be right.
Rachel: I know I am.
Rachel: Anyway, I'm sure you understand now why my backing the gallery has to be a secret.
Caroline: Ah -- the way I know Sam now, of course I understand.
Cass: Is that dress going to self-destruct or something?
Nicole: What do you mean?
Cass: Don't give me that "what do you mean?" stuff. Yesterday you wouldn't have given Caroline Stafford bus fare.
Nicole: She has the perfect figure for that dress.
Cass: I have no quarrel with her figure. Come -- turn around.
Nicole: Wait --
Cass: Look at me. What I want to know is, why?
Nicole: Because I want to be nice to her.
Cass: Even though she knifes you every chance she gets?
Nicole: She hasn't said a nasty word to me since I showed her the dress.
Cass: Yeah, but every time -- wait a second, you little devil. Are you killing her with kindness?
Nicole: Would I do something like that?
Nicole: Excuse me, Rachelís running late.
Cass: Nicole --
Rachel: It looks great on you.
Nicole: Rachel --
Nicole: Here's the receipt for the dress.
Rachel: Ok, thanks a lot.
Nicole: You go upstairs; Sophie will wrap it up for you.
Rachel: Ok, great, thanks. I'll see you later.
Nicole: You look beautiful!
Rachel: Thank you.
Cass: See you later.
Caroline: Maybe I should be getting my bill, too. So that's what it is -- the size of your bill?
Nicole: No, there isn't a bill. You just be sure to tell everyone it's a Nicole Love design.
Caroline: Oh, now I know. You want me to wear, like, a sandwich sign over the dress?
Nicole: No. I just want you to wear the dress.
Caroline: I don't know what to say. It's magnificent.
Man: It most certainly is.
Nicole: Oh, Stefan.
Stefan: How happy I am to see you again.
Nicole: Oh! But what in the world are you doing here?
Stefan: What am I doing? I have come from Paris to change your life.
Nicole: Cass, I'd like you to meet Stefan Dubois.
Stefan: I have heard so much about you.
Cass: Oh, really?
Cass: Ah. Well, that's odd. I haven't heard anything about you.
Nicole: Cass --
Caroline: You must be Stefan, Christian St. Jacques' first assistant. Caroline Stafford.
Caroline: I'm a fan of yours.
Stefan: Mademoiselle Stafford.
Nicole: He's really so charming.
Cass: Oh, yes, he's very swell. Look, exactly how many French designers did you work with in Paris?
Nicole: What --
Caroline: Look, I know it's not every day that I get a chance to speak to one of the world's foremost designers, but I really have to go.
Nicole: No, wait. Wait. You can't go yet. You don't have the earrings.
Caroline: I beg your pardon?
Nicole: To go with the dress. Oh, you have to have the earrings. They really make the outfit. Excuse me. I'll be right back.
Cass: Excuse me. I'll help her with the earrings.
Stefan: But of course.
Caroline: Thank you so much for not letting them know that I knew you. I could never explain it.
Stefan: Ah. When you said nothing, I said nothing.
Caroline: I mean, it would kill Nicole if she knew that I had asked you and Christian to hire her.
Stefan: But I told you, this is not our favor to you. We are interested in Nicole for her talent.
Caroline: She really does have good style. I mean, this is one of her dresses. It's lovely, isn't it?
Stefan: Magnifique. But I had no idea you were such close friends.
Caroline: We're not at all, no.
Stefan: Ah, oui. You have never struck me as a woman who has woman friends.
Caroline: No. I just can't help it. They find me threatening.
Stefan: Ah. And Nicole -- are you a threat to her?
Caroline: I certainly hope so.
Stefan: Ah, oui.
Nicole: Here we go. Accessories make the outfit.
Nicole: Hold still.
Stefan: They are perfect, the perfect touch.
Nicole: Oh, they look beautiful.
Caroline: They're lovely. Thank you.
Cass: So, stef --
Cass: Right. Exactly what are you doing here in the states?
Stefan: It is quite simple. I must speak with Nicole, a private matter.
Cass: Oh. Well, Nicole is my partner, though, so whatever you tell her --
Nicole: Well, Cass, since we're running a little bit late, why don't I stay here and talk with Stefan and you go with Caroline to the gallery.
Cass: You want me to go with Caroline?
Nicole: Yeah. Don't worry. I'll meet you there later.
Cass: Yeah, but if you happen to be too late, then --
Nicole: Stefan and I won't be more than an hour, will we?
Stefan: Just a moment of your time.
Nicole: Ok. Well, you go on, Cass. And, Caroline, don't you forget, this is a Nicole Love design.
Caroline: Yes. Thank you.
Nicole: You're welcome. See you later, Cass. Have fun.
Caroline: My clothes?
Nicole: I'll get them to you tomorrow.
Stefan: The dress you gave Mademoiselle Stafford --
Nicole: Oh, thank you.
Stefan: It speaks of everything Christian and I have always believed about your talent.
Nicole: Thank you. Did you just get in from Paris?
Stefan: Ah, oui, this very second.
Nicole: Oh, you mean you came straight here?
Stefan: Oui. As I said, I have come to change your life.
Stefan: We want you to come to France. We want you to design with us as an equal partner.
Amanda: Oh --
Amanda: You're not the babysitter.
Jamie: No kidding. Vicky.
Vicky: Jamie, what are you doing here?
Jamie: I'm driving Amanda to the gallery.
Vicky: What -- no. She gave the keys to Sam, and she told me that --
Jamie and Vicky: Amanda?
Amanda: Oh -- didn't I tell you Jamie was on his way over?
Vicky: I think it slipped your mind.
Amanda: Oh, it must have. Well, that's all right. We can all go together -- save gas.
Vicky: Oh --
Jamie: Obviously, a misunderstanding.
Vicky: No problem! I mean, you just -- you take Amanda and I'll drive in my car.
Amanda: Well, why would you want to do something like that? We can both go with you.
Vicky: It's a sports car, Amanda. It only has two seats.
Amanda: Well, then, we can all go in Jamieís car. He's got plenty of room. Then he can drive you home later.
Jamie and Vicky: Amanda --
Amanda: What? What's with you two? This is a very special night for me. What's the big deal if I want my best friend and my brother along with me?
[Knock on door]
Amanda: Now, that's Hilda. So, we agreed? We're all going together?
Felicia: Honey, now, come on, don't be silly. This is going to be a wonderful night.
Mitch: Sure, it is.
Felicia: Right? Right.
Sam: Yeah. Well, then tell that to my stomach, ok?
Felicia: Oh. You know what? I was telling Mitch earlier I think tonight could be the best night for us to buy something of yours.
Mitch: That's right.
Sam: No, no.
Felicia: Sam, come on, now. I was supposed to get a painting before you went into the hospital. I never did, you little bum.
Sam: Don't buy anything, ok?
Felicia: Sam --
Mitch: As a matter of fact, we were just thinking maybe this one right here.
Felicia: Yeah, we love this.
Sam: Guys, guys, listen to me. I appreciate the confidence. But if you want a painting, I'll do one for you as a gift.
Felicia: Oh, all right. Oh, Iris. Hello.
Iris: Sam, how are you?
Sam: Nervous. Thanks for coming.
Evan: Oh, we wouldn't have missed it for the world.
Felicia: You look lovely.
Iris: Thank you. And you look absolutely stunning.
Felicia: Thank you.
Iris: Where's Amanda?
Sam: She'll be here soon.
Iris: Oh, good.
Sam: If you guys will excuse us, I promised Mitch and Felicia a private tour.
Iris: Oh! Go right ahead.
Evan: Go right ahead, and don't mind us.
Felicia: Thank you. See you guys later?
Felicia: All right.
Sam: We'll start over on this wall.
Evan: So, when do you make your move?
Iris: I need Amanda to be here.
Evan: You nervous?
Iris: Not at all. Rachel's family means everything to her, and tonight I intend to take them away from her one by one.
Ada: Holy cats!
Rachel: It's pretty impressive, isn't it?
Ada: I knew he was good, but not this good.
Rachel: Oh, I knew. He's really very talented. You can tell when you see them all together like this.
Ada: Don't you wish you'd stayed out of it now?
Rachel: And not given Caroline the money?
Rachel: My money had nothing to do with this. If Caroline hadn't gotten her money from me, she would have gotten it from somebody else. She always backs Sam. Oh -- there's daddy's little angel.
Ada: Be a good girl.
Rachel: Yes, mummy.
Iris: Well. Rachel, you look smashing.
Rachel: Well, so do you.
Iris: Thank you. Isn't it a pity daddy's not here to see us both? Oh, and, Ada, lovely as always.
Ada: As always.
Iris: Where's Matthew?
Rachel: Oh, he had to stay home and study for a final.
Iris: Oh, that's a pity. I'm glad that little problem between you both is being solved. I think it's so sad when a child rejects its own mother.
Ada: You can put your handkerchief away, Iris. Matthew and Rachel are just fine.
Iris: Good. Well, I pray that everything goes fine from now on.
Ada: Rachel, there's Felicia over there.
Rachel: Excuse me.
Ada: Let's go say hello. Hello, Felicia!
Felicia: Hi! Hello, Rachel.
Iris: Ah, thank you. And where's the lovely Caroline Stafford? It is her gallery, isn't it?
Evan: Well, we were a bit early. I think you can just relax. She'll be here.
Iris: Good. I think tonight's little surprise might upset her.
Evan: Oh, I think tonight's surprise might upset a lot of people.
Iris: Yeah. I think we might upstage even the art.
Evan: Are you sure you want to go through with this?
Iris: It's not a matter of what I want. It's a matter of what needs to be done.
Caroline: Roger. How lovely of you to come.
Caroline: Now, this one here is a critic, so watch it.
Caroline: William. You're looking younger every time I see you. Now, these two here -- they have gobs of money.
Cass: They'd better have something.
Caroline: Mrs. Howard, how lovely of you to come.
Mrs. Howard: Well, an opening's always a major event.
Caroline: Oh, only when you and your daughter attend. How are you, Daphne?
Caroline: How lovely to see you. Mildred, you look fabulous.
Cass: Hello. Thank you, thank you, thank you for not introducing me to those two.
Caroline: I didn't dare. If she found out you weren't married, you would have been stuck with her all evening.
Caroline: Where's Nicole this evening?
Cass: Oh, don't worry. She'll be here.
Cass: You really know how to work a room, don't you?
Caroline: Any idea why she just happened to suddenly decide to give me this little dress?
Cass: I assume it's because you two are such good friends. See you around.
Daphne: I want to see Mrs. Fowler, the artist's wife?
Mrs. Howard: Oh, that scandal with Marsten is more interesting than these paintings.
Daphne: Oh -- mother --
Ada: Don't let it get to you, honey.
Rachel: Well, never mind me. Excuse me.
Caroline: Now, make sure all the glasses are filled, ok? Thank you.
Caroline: Rachel, good evening.
Rachel: Who are those ladies over there? Howard?
Caroline: Mrs. Howard and her daughter Daphne.
Rachel: They were standing there braying about the scandal.
Caroline: Oh, I'm sorry.
Rachel: Well, never mind me. It's Sam and Amanda. Can you try to keep them away from them?
Caroline: I'll try.
Rachel: The last thing they need tonight is to hear talk like that. I don't understand why this scandal talk hasn't died down.
Caroline: I really think something like that's going to be pretty hard to stop, Rachel. I think we're going to have to learn to live with it.
Rachel: Well, I just hope there's no gossip about who financed your gallery here.
Caroline: Absolutely not.
Rachel: Ok, let's keep it that way, all right?
Evan: So, any trouble?
Caroline: Nothing I can't handle.
Vicky: Oh, my goodness.
Felicia: Hi, Jamie.
Sam: Jamie, hi. Thanks for coming.
Jamie: Hey, congratulations.
Sam: Yeah, thanks a lot.
Jamie: Hello, Mitch?
Mitch: How are you, Jamie?
Felicia: Amanda, hi.
Felicia: Well, you must be so proud of him, huh?
Amanda: Oh, are you kidding? I couldn't be happier.
Vicky: It's crowded.
Jamie: Not really.
Vicky: No, not very.
Jamie: Then why did you say it was?
Vicky: I didn't know what else to say. We didn't have very many gallery openings where I grew up, you know.
Jamie: Sorry. Let's mingle.
Vicky: Mingle, yeah. Good idea.
Jamie: Oh, well, hello.
Rachel: I was wondering when you were coming. Hello, Vicky.
Vicky: Rachel. Ada.
Ada: Hi, Vicky. Nice to see you.
Jamie: We came together.
Vicky: To save gas.
Ada: Excuse me?
Jamie: Never mind, bad joke.
Ada: Well, why don't we all take the tour, ok?
Jamie: Good idea.
Rachel: All right.
Ada: Come on.
Sam: And the final piece of this tour is this one -- family love.
Amanda: Isn't it wonderful?
Mitch: You know, brother, you've really come a long way. You've become a good artist.
Sam: Thanks, Mitch. That means a lot.
Mitch: I really love that. Don't you, honey? Felicia? Hey, what is it?
Lisa: Look, Barry -- I'm sorry. Harry. I'm really not your type, and I'm only interested in one thing -- how did you get my name? Video what? Video match. And what is their phone number? Ok. Thanks. No. No Fellini. No, no hot tubs. No walks on the beach. Thank you. Video match?
Auntie Rose: Video match. We help you find who you need.
Lisa: This is Lisa Grady.
Auntie Rose: Lisa -- oh, yes, Lisa! This is Auntie Rose, dear. How are you?
Lisa: I'm sorry. Who are you?
Auntie Rose: Auntie Rose.
Lisa: Uh-huh. And you know who I am?
Auntie Rose: You said Lisa Grady?
Lisa: Right. Why are you giving my name and number out to people?
Auntie Rose: Uh -- you aren't happy with the way things are going?
Lisa: Would you like it if guys kept calling you up wanting to take you for walks on the beach in the middle of December?
Auntie Rose: Oh, Lisa, dear, perhaps there's been some kind of mix-up.
Lisa: Yes, there has been a mix-up. You're giving out my name and number, and I want it stopped.
Auntie Rose: Oh, well, then that's exactly what we'll do.
Auntie Rose: Absolutely, dear. You must understand the last thing I want is for a customer of mine to be unhappy.
Lisa: But I'm not not a -- never mind, never mind. Just take my name out of your files. Thank you.
Julie Ann: Oh, you!
Rick: So I said, "I hate when that happens."
Julie Ann: Oh --
Rick Iíll get my coat.
Julie Ann: Lisa, are yore you don't want to go to the gallery with us?
Lisa: No. I've got too much work to do.
Rick: Oh, Julie Ann, remember those pictures we took at the arcade?
Julie Ann: You didn't save those?
Rick: Well, of course I did!
Julie Ann: Oh -- but I look awful in those!
Rick: Only in one of them. No, no, no, no --
Julie Ann: Now, give me --
Rick: Well, I like mug shots.
Julie Ann: No --
Rick: I'm a cop, remember?
Julie Ann: Give me those.
Rick: Oh, come on.
Julie Ann: I look terrible -- let me put these out here.
Rick: Hey, earth to Lisa?
Lisa: Oh, I'm sorry.
Rick: You all right?
Rick: Well, we're going to leave now.
Rick: See you.
Lisa: Have a good time.
Julie Ann: See you.
Lisa: Oh, boy.
Nicole: Stefan, I canít.
Stefan: You need more to think?
Nicole: No. I have to say no.
Stefan: But why?
Nicole: I can't go to Paris and work with you.
Stefan: Entende. You reject us to stay here in Bay City?
Nicole: Well, this is my home. I love it here. Cass is here.
Stefan: Cherie, a full partnership with Christian St. Jacques and Stefan Dubois is not an unglamorous life, Cherie.
Nicole: I know, I know, and we're always struggling to make ends meet, but --
Stefan: But -- but what?
Nicole: That's the choice Cass and I made. That's our life. We start every day with some new hope, some new idea for the future. I don't want to give that up.
Stefan: Oui, oui.
Nicole: And we'll make it somehow. I just can't give up on what we've worked so hard for. And, Stefan, I can't leave Cass. Can you understand?
Stefan: Oui, I -- I understand. I cannot say it makes me happy, but I understand. You are in love.
Mitch: Felicia, what's happening? What is it?
Amanda: Is something wrong, Felicia?
Felicia: No. No. I'm sorry. I guess I got a little emotional, that's all.
Felicia: The painting is really wonderful, Sam.
Man: Mr. Fowler, could I talk with you about some of these works?
Amanda: Sam --
Amanda: This is William --
Sam: I know who he is, Amanda. Of course, of course. Over here?
William: Just a few questions.
Caroline: I'm Caroline.
Vicky: Caroline, of course. It's nice to meet you.
Caroline: Well, I work with Marley, so of course I recognize you.
Vicky: Well, we do look a little bit different these days.
Caroline: Hmm. Is she coming along nicely?
Vicky: Yeah, she'll be herself in a few days, I'm sure.
Vicky: It's nice to meet you. Excuse me.
Caroline: Nice to meet you.
Amanda: Hi, Vicky.
Evan: You really look great.
Evan: So, are you going ahead with it?
Amanda: Well, I guess I really don't have that much of a choice. I mean, if I'm supposed to be a client at this video place, I'm going to have to make one of Aunt Rosieís tapes, right?
Evan: Go for it. Why don't I get some champagne?
Julie Ann: Hi! Amanda!
Amanda: Julie Ann, you look great!
Julie Ann: Thank you. You, too.
Amanda: Hi, Rick.
Rick: Hi, Amanda.
Amanda: It's nice of you to come.
Rick: Oh, well, wouldn't be anywhere else.
Julie Ann: Listen, where's Sam? I want to congratulate him.
Amanda: You know, I was just going to look for him myself. I'll go find him, and then I'll get with you later, ok?
Julie Ann: Ok.
Rick: So how am I doing? Am I passing this culture test?
Julie Ann: This isn't a culture test.
Rick: Well, you know, in my family, we didn't discuss art that much.
Julie Ann: Well, neither did mine, but I still love it. Sometimes I go to Chicago on Saturdays and just walk through the art institute. It's really fun.
Julie Ann: Yeah. I just love those paintings. They inspire me.
Rick: You inspire me.
Julie Ann: I'm glad.
Rick: Oh, yeah? Would you go to the snowflake ball with me?
Julie Ann: Where did that come from?
Rick: Well, I've been trying to think of a good time to ask you all night.
Julie Ann: Well, I'm glad you found it.
Rick: Well, does that mean you'll go with me?
Julie Ann: Yes.
Julie Ann: And maybe when you pick me up you'll meet my folks.
Rick: Uh-oh. Are we at meet-the-parents stage?
Julie Ann: I guess we are. Come on. Let's go look at the paintings.
Iris: I'm really looking forward to doing the "Brava" series on your life, the real Felicia Gallant.
Felicia: I want to talk to you about that, Iris.
Iris: You know, I think it's wonderful that you came from a humble home, educated yourself, freed yourself from poverty. Hmm.
Felicia: Anything to sell magazines, is that it?
Iris: I beg your pardon?
Felicia: Excuse me.
Mitch: Excuse me. Ahem. Felicia, wait a minute. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute! Tell me, what is going on?
Sam: Excuse me. Yes.
Caroline: You've just made your first sale.
Rachel: What? What did she just tell him?
Ada: I don't know. I didn't hear anything.
Sam: I just sold my first painting.
Amanda: Oh, that's great!
Rachel: Oh, that's great! To whom?
Caroline: A gentleman from Chicago -- and I don't even know him.
Ada: That's terrific.
Rachel: Oh, that's so great! Isn't that great?
Rachel: Congratulations, Caroline.
Vicky: Ok, next -- ah.
Jamie: Oh. Hmm.
Vicky: I want it.
Jamie: Just like that?
Vicky: Yes. Well, darling, that's how you buy art.
Jamie: It is, huh?
Vicky: What are you laughing at?
Jamie: Vicky, that's the way you buy everything.
Vicky: Well, of course it is, because it's more fun and exciting and -- besides, I have the money, so I can do it.
Jamie: Well, who cares, right? Why not?
[Jamie and Vicky laugh]
Vicky: Let me see --
Jamie: That's pretty funny.
Felicia: Hi, honey. You all right?
Lisa: I guess I just have to get used to scenes like that.
Felicia: Yeah, I guess we all have to. Listen, I'm glad you came tonight. It's good for you to be out. You need to circulate a little.
Lisa: Oh, it's just that every time I circulate I run into those two.
Felicia: It will get easier. I promise you that.
Lisa: Yeah, I've been very patient.
Felicia: I know you have. You are so much like me. You know that?
Lisa: Just once I'd like somebody to see me laughing and joking and have them feel terrible.
Felicia: I tell you what -- why don't you stay the rest of the night with Mitch and me. We'll have a lot of fun, I promise.
Lisa: Actually, there's something I've been meaning to look into.
Lisa: I'll see you tomorrow.
Felicia: Lisa -- Lisa?
Jamie: When I opened the closet door, all those boxes from Majorca came tumbling down.
Vicky: Right. And then the hats --
Vicky: The hats came out.
Jamie: Oh, the hats -- you almost made those hats look good.
Vicky: I did not.
Jamie: I can't believe this.
Vicky: What's the matter?
Jamie: Well, it's you and I. It's just having fun and on a date.
Vicky: No, this isn't a date. It's a setup.
Jamie: That's right. Hey, you know, I like that -- that watercolor over there.
Vicky: Do you want to go to the snowflake ball with me?
Vicky: You heard what I said.
Jamie: Well, I don't know. We might end up throwing snowballs at each other on the dance floor.
Vicky: Well, I'll take my chances. You going to take me or not, huh?
Cass: There you are.
Nicole: Am I too late?
Cass: No. Things are just getting started.
Nicole: Oh, good. I didn't want to miss a thing.
Cass: Tell me what he wanted.
Nicole: Who? Stefan?
Cass: No. Gorbachev. Of course, Stefan. He wants you to go to Paris, right?
Nicole: Yes. That's what he said.
Cass: I knew it. And?
Nicole: And a full partnership, my own label, total freedom, and bonus money to pay off all our debts.
Cass: Wow. Who can turn that down?
Cass: Oh. Yeah? Well, I knew you would.
Nicole: Oh, you did?
Cass: Oh, of course. I mean, what we have is priceless when you get right down to it.
Nicole: Well, that's what I said.
Cass: You did?
Cass: Ah. But on the other hand, you don't want to be hasty, either. I mean, an opportunity like this doesn't present itself every day. Maybe you should give this guy Stefan a call, do lunch with him. See how you feel after you've had lunch with --
Nicole: Cass, shut up.
Cass: Oh, fiancťe. It's -- it's ok. Come here.
Mitch: Will you tell me what's going on now?
Felicia: Mitch, I -- I have to go out.
Mitch: No, wait a minute. What is it with the painting?
Felicia: It -- it reminds me of what I missed when I was a kid --
Mitch: I don't understand.
Felicia: I lied about Noah!
Felicia: I lied about everything about him right from the start. I'm sorry.
William: And his sense of form and color.
Caroline: Yes, Sam is really quite a talent.
William: He harkens back to the style of Titian.
Caroline: Well, William, you always had quite a keen eye, and I can't wait to read it. But would you excuse me? I wanted to close a deal with a man over there?
William: Of course.
Evan: Caroline, how's it going?
Caroline: Fantastic. Now, I hope you're up for celebrating tonight. My place?
Evan: It's going that well?
Caroline: Everything I've set out to accomplish has paid off --
Evan: Well, that's --
Caroline: And bigger than I ever expected!
Evan: Well, that's terrific.
Caroline: Oh. As far as I'm concerned, tonight's perfect.
Evan: Great. I am so happy for you.
Caroline: Oh. Later.
Amanda: But it really doesn't matter.
Rachel: I don't understand where you're hearing all this about you and Marsten.
Amanda: Well, people are talking. You have to admit that.
Rachel: Well, it'll stop.
Amanda: It doesn't bother me.
Amanda: I mean, I didn't do anything wrong. It doesn't seem to have hurt Sam. In fact, I think it might have even helped him.
Rachel: Well, just as long as you two aren't upset.
Amanda: Oh, I'm not. Sam is finally relaxed. He's having a ball.
Rachel: Good. Well, then all we have to worry about is that the evening gets better and better.
Sam: Thank you. Thank you very much. I appreciate that.
Iris: Sam, this appears to be a great success.
Sam: Yeah, it does, doesn't it?
Iris: I think your work is really tremendous.
Sam: Thank you. That means a lot.
Iris: Well, you deserve all the respect you can get. I must say I think it would have been a great success even without Rachelís help.
Sam: What do you mean?
Auntie Rose: May I --
Lisa: How did you get a videotape of me?
Auntie Rose: You're Lisa Grady.
Lisa: Right. How did you get a tape with me on it?
Auntie Rose: It came with your application.
Lisa: But, see, that's the problem. I didn't send in an application or a tape.
Auntie Rose: Well, then, how do you suppose --
Lisa: I don't know. That's what I want to find out.
Auntie Rose: Oh, I have your application right here. I pulled it as soon as you called this evening.
Lisa: Let me see that. Oh, no wonder they wanted to walk on the beach. It says here I'm crazy about it -- and Fellini and hot tubs, and this is typed!
Auntie Rose: I know.
Lisa: Well, where did you get it?
Auntie Rose: It came in the mail.
Lisa: And the tape came with it?
Auntie Rose: Yeah.
Lisa: I want to see that tape.
Auntie Rose: Well --
Lisa: Look, Rose, I'm on the edge here. I just broke up with my fiancť, I'm barely able to look at another man, and some very sadistic person has put my name into a video-dating service. I want to know who.
Auntie Rose: Now, I told you I wouldn't give your name out again.
Lisa: I know, I know, but I'm talking vengeance here, Rose.
Auntie Rose: Now, my mother had a very good saying for situations like this.
Lisa: And what was that?
Auntie Rose: "Don't get mad. Get even."
Lisa: What did you have in mind?
Auntie Rose: Well, whoever sent this application in must know you, right?
Lisa: Right -- well enough to have my face on tape.
Auntie Rose: So if this is someone's idea of a practical joke, wouldn't it serve them right to see you having a wonderful time with a man you met right here, a handsome man?
Lisa: I'm just not ready to do that, not with any man, not yet.
Auntie Rose: Well. It's just a suggestion. Listen, I wish I could help you. You seem like such a lovely young woman. I'm sorry you've been hurt.
Lisa: Thank you.
Auntie Rose: I am going to destroy that tape and this application immediately.
Lisa: I guess that's all you can do. Thanks.
Lisa's voice: Just once I'd like someone to see me laughing and joking and have them feel terrible.
Lisa: The men in your files -- are they nice?
Auntie Rose: Oh, now, I don't have any use for men who aren't nice, professionally and personally. Why don't you just sit down.
Felicia: I'm sorry. I really am sorry. I -- I should have told you about all of this before now.
Mitch: Now is as good a time as any.
Felicia: Right. You see, when I was young, my childhood -- I just never wanted you to know anything about my childhood.
Mitch: Why not? I love you.
Felicia: I know you do.
Mitch: Well, what is this -- what is this about your stepfather? What is all this stuff about Noah? Tell me.
Felicia: Well, I guess I didn't describe him too accurately -- she said ironically. Oh, God, Mitch. This is so hard for me to talk about.
Mitch: But what is it? What, he's not the warm, wonderful father you were telling me about? Is that it?
Felicia: He was cold, he was ice, and I was -- he -- he expected too much of me, and -- and I disappointed him. I even -- I even disobeyed him.
Mitch: Look, you were just a kid. What did you do that was so terrible?
Felicia: He was very angry.
Very. He had a good reason to be.
Mitch: What reason?
Felicia: I was pregnant.
Sam: Rachel put up the money for the gallery, huh?
Iris: Oh, Sam, I -- don't you know?
Sam: I do now.
Iris: Oh, I'm so sorry.
Sam: Never mind.
Iris: I -- I didn't mean --
Sam: Never mind.
Iris: Please, Sam, I just --
Cass: Hey, Sam --
Caroline: Hello, Sam.
Sam: I need to talk to you.
Rachel: Sure. What?
Sam: I just heard something that I know was a lie, but I -- I want you to tell me that it's a lie.
Rachel: What's wrong, Sam?
Sam: I just heard that you financed this whole thing. Is that true, Rachel?
