Rachel: It's nice of Vicky and Marley to be giving a party for their parents. Where is it going to be?

Jamie: At Vicky's. It's a surprise party. Michael and Donna don't know about it.

Rachel: That'll be nice.

Jamie: Yeah, Vicky thinks it'll be more fun that way.

Rachel: Well, it will be. I'm sorry that Mac won't be able to be there, but he has to be in New York for a couple of days on this takeover stuff. Nice things are working out for Michael and Donna, finally.

Jamie: Yeah, everybody's really happy for them.

Rachel: Well, this will give me a chance to see Lisa, now that she's back from Paris.

Jamie: Yeah.

Rachel: I missed her. How is she?

Jamie: She's just fine, I guess.

Rachel: What do you mean, "you guess"?

Jamie: Well, Mom, you're going to find out sooner or later, so I just might as well tell you. Lisa and I have split up.

Matthew: Look, man, you can't go back there.

Kevin: Well, I can't hide out here forever.

Matthew: You're not hiding out!

Kevin: What do you call it, vacationing?

Matthew: You're being crazy. You're being absolutely crazy. Look what they did to your room. The next they trash could be you.

Kevin: Yeah, well, I'll just have to get them first.

Matthew: Oh, come off it!

Kevin: Matt, what's to keep them from coming after us here?

Matthew: There's no reason for them to come back here.

Kevin: I don't know. I don't know. Maybe you're right.

Matthew: I'm right, I'm right. Believe me, I'm right. But, you know, you're right, too. I mean, we just can't stay at Felicia's forever.

Kevin: I know. Got any ideas? I don't know.

Matthew: No. Ok, Amanda's working on something.

Kevin: Wait, wait -- Amanda knows what happened?

Matthew: Yeah, most of it.

Kevin: Well, does she know those guys want to mess us up?

Matthew: No, I didn't go into all the gory details. She'd get scared.

Kevin: Are you scared?

Matthew: Look, I'm less scared here than I am up there.

Kevin: What about my finals?

Matthew: You can take them down here, like me.

Kevin: I don't know. This --

Matthew: Kevin, would you come on, man?

Kevin: All right. All right, I won't go back. I'll stay here with you.

Matthew: All right.

Felicia: You're moving in here for good?

[Knock on door]

Sam: Yeah, come on in. Hey, Mitch.

Mitch: Something wrong with your refrigerator?

Sam: No. I'm trying to make a sandwich, and I can't find the mustard. I know it's in here somewhere.

Mitch: Is that what you're looking for?

Sam: Yeah. Thanks.

Mitch: I hope you didn't call me over here to find your mustard for you.

Sam: No, that's not why. Ah --

[Sam sighs]

Mitch: I thought you said you were hungry.

Sam: I was. I just lost my appetite. I'm getting a headache, you know?

Mitch: It's your eyes, isn't it? Are they bothering you?

Sam: Yeah, well, you know, I can't even find the jar of mustard, and it's staring me right in the face..

Mitch: Look, this is starting to get serious.

Sam: Yeah, well, it's ok, sometimes, you know? It comes and it goes. I'm fine, really.

Mitch: Have you seen a doctor? Sam, have you seen Jamie about this?

Jamie: Things just didn't work out.

Rachel: Oh, sweetie.

Jamie: These things happen.

Rachel: I'm so sorry. I know they do, but how?

Jamie: I don't know exa-- yeah, I do know. Lisa just would not let go of the stuff about Vicky always being after me.

Rachel: Yeah, but, Jamie --

Jamie: And then she complained to Adam about it, and she told Adam everything that was going on between us.

Rachel: Yeah, well, they work together.

Jamie: Yeah, they sure do.

Rachel: Honey, I don't think that that means that Lisa --

Jamie: Mom, I'm -- you know, I don't mean to be acting like a jerk here. I'm sorry.

Rachel: I know, but you're upset.

Jamie: Yeah, well, I can -- I can handle it.

Rachel: You still love her, don't you? Maybe it's just temporary.

Jamie: No, no, not -- not after what -- no.

Rachel: Honey, I know I'm just your mother, but you can talk to me.

Jamie: Thanks.

Rachel: Oh, I'm so sorry about this, and not just for you. For Lisa. She's losing out on a terrific guy.

Jamie: Hmm. Where did you learn how to say the right things all the time?

Rachel: There's a school for mothers.

[Jamie chuckles]

Rachel: Oh, sweetie. What can we do for you? You want me to get your room ready? You want to move back in here for a bit?

Jamie: No, I'm not going to be moving back in right away.

Rachel: You're not?

Jamie: No -- ahem -- I'll stay at the farm for a while.

Rachel: With Jason?

Jamie: Yeah, you know, we're getting to know each other a little bit better.

Rachel: So, you'll be staying there with him?

Jamie: Yeah. Listen, I know he's brash, but he's not all that bad, and besides, I like being out there because believe it or not, I enjoy working in that garden. It gives me a great opportunity to work off my frustrations.

Rachel: Your father used to talk about working in that garden when he was a little boy.

Jamie: Yeah, I know. Jason told me.

Rachel: Oh.

Jamie: Yeah. Kind of makes me feel a little bit closer to Dad.

Felicia: Boys, I am sorry. I really didn't mean to eavesdrop. So, Kevin, tell me -- so you're planning on staying, huh?

Kevin: Well, I -- let me take that.

Felicia: Oh, thank you.

Kevin: I really kind of like Bay City, and --

Felicia: Do you?

Kevin: I was thinking that I might stay for a little while --

Felicia: Well, I've really enjoyed having both of you boys here, very much, really.

Matthew: Thanks. We appreciate it.

Kevin: Thanks. Thanks a lot.

Felicia: So, how long are you planning on staying?

Kevin: Well, I was thinking that I might stay permanently, almost..

Felicia: Permanently, almost, yes.

Kevin: Well, at least until the end of school, I mean.

Felicia: Right, sure, the end of school, mm-hmm.

Kevin: Oh, oh, oh, but not here, here. No. I was thinking that I would get a job or something, maybe find a place I could stay, just till the end of school.

Felicia: Ah, right, ok..

Matthew: Maybe we could go down to Mary's Place, talk to Vince about getting you a room down there, yeah.

Kevin: Yeah, that would be great, Matt, but I think I better get a job first. It's going to cost money, and I don't --

Matthew: Well, you could wait tables at Mary's Place.

Kevin: Yeah, I could do that.

Matthew: You could do that.

Kevin: Do you know if they're looking for anybody or what?

Matthew: Well, I don't know, but when we go down there, we'll ask.

Kevin: This is great.

Felicia: Kevin, you know, Mitch is looking for an assistant. Maybe you could work for him.

Matthew: My gosh, that would be fantastic.

Kevin: That would be so cool!

Felicia: Well, now, wait. I can't promise anything, but I certainly will ask him, ok?

Matthew: Oh, thank you!

Felicia: You're welcome.

Kevin: Thank you, Felicia.

Felicia: You're welcome.

Matthew: Come on, come on, let's go down to Mary's Place.

Kevin: Thanks again.

Felicia: Uh-huh.

Matthew: Out of here, thanks.

Mitch: Blurred vision and headaches. You know those are definite symptoms.

Sam: I know that.

Mitch: Hey, Sam, you've been in a serious auto accident.

Sam: No kidding, Mitch! I was there, remember?

Mitch: I know you were there, but you need to see a doctor.

Sam: I know, man.

Mitch: Well, you keep saying you know, but you haven't done anything about it. Look, why don't I call Jamie. I'm going to make you an appointment.

Sam: Mitch, I already saw Jamie, all right? - Oh, look at

all these flies!- The trash guy is mad.

Cass: Wait a minute, wait a minute.

Nicole: What? What is it?

Cass: Before we re-enter reality.

Nicole: Yes.

Cass: Every night should be like last night.

[Nicole giggles]

Nicole: Cass --

Cass: What?

Nicole: Stop.

Cass: You really want me to?

Nicole: No.

Cass: That's what I thought.

Nicole: Not really.

Cass: Isn't that obvious?

Nicole: Well, something is.

[Cass laughs]

Cass: I have but one request.

Nicole: Hmm. Anything.

Cass: Can I have the list of publishers now, please?

Nicole: Is that what all this is about?

Cass: Be serious.

Nicole: And last night, too? You know, Cass, I've just about had it with you and your -- your slimy ways!

Cass: "Slimy ways"? Nicole --

Nicole: Yeah, you think I'll succumb to your forward manner.

Cass: I think my manners are all right.

Nicole: Well, then, mind them.

Cass: Not until I get that list.

Nicole: Well, I don't have it.

Cass: What do you mean, you don't have it?

Nicole: I gave it to Liz to work on.

Cass: You what? You gave it to Liz? Oh, this is great. This is fantastic!

Nicole: What?

Cass: Well, she'll probably lose the stupid thing!

Nicole: Oh, she will not!

Cass: It's true!

Nicole: It is not true, Cass. You know, despite what you think of her personally, she is a very capable woman.

Cass: So was Tokyo rose.

Nicole: Well, I happen to have a lot of faith in her.

Cass: Well, that's because you don't know her very well.

Nicole: Well, we're getting very close.

Cass: Look, I've got to get that information to Michael tonight before he takes off on his honeymoon so his New York people can work on it. You got to get it back for me.

Nicole: Cass, look, I've got four dresses to finish today. Now, why don't you go get it back from Liz yourself if it's so important to you?

Cass: All right, I will.

Mitch: So what did he say?

Sam: Nothing. I went to have some tests done, and I haven't got the results back yet.

Mitch: What kind of tests?

Sam: CAT scan.

Mitch: Did he say what they were looking for?

Sam: Well, when I was in the hospital, Jamie told me I had a blood clot next to the optic nerve.

Mitch: But he obviously let you leave.

Sam: Well, yeah, because it was dissolving on its own. He said that if I took it easy it would dissolve on its own. But --

Mitch: What?

Sam: I didn't feel any better, so I went and saw him yesterday.

Mitch: So what did he say?

Sam: Nothing. I didn't ask. I was afraid to.

Mitch: Sam, you can't be afraid to ask.

Sam: Mitch, I am afraid. There's a lot of stuff I'm afraid of, you know? So that's why I asked you to come over here, because I wanted someone to talk to.

Mitch: Ok. What do you want to talk about?

Sam: I don't know. Nothing, something -- I don't care -- something.

Mitch: Well, why don't we start with how you're feeling?

Sam: I'm scared. I mean, I'm really afraid I'll never be able to paint again.

[Sam sighs]

Sam: I'm afraid I might go blind. If I do, I'll never see my kid. I mean, I'm afraid that I might die, you know? Hell, I'm afraid that I might not die. I mean, if it gets to that point, I might become this veg and be burden on everybody.

Mitch: I don't think Jamie would have let you out of the hospital if he felt that was a possibility.

Sam: Yeah, but, Mitch, I'm getting these incredible headaches, and I can't see very well and -- how am I supposed to paint when I'm like this?

Mitch: Look, your body's been through a lot of stress. It's just going to take some time. It takes time for it to heal, you know?

Sam: Time? Man, I've got a wife who's pregnant, Mitch! I got a responsibility to take care of her and a kid! How am I supposed to do that if I've got no money, I've got no job --

Mitch: Whoa, whoa, whoa, hey, Sam, just take it one step at a time. Look, nobody's saying anything about permanent disability.

Sam: Yeah.

Mitch: Your body's just been through a lot of stress, and it's going to take time to heal. Just give it time.

Sam: I know, I know.

[Knock on door]

Sam: I'm sorry.

Mitch: Do you want me to get that?

Sam: No. I'll get it.

Jamie: Hello, Sam.

Sam: Hi.

Jamie: I'd like to talk to you about your CAT scan.

Sam: Ok.

Marley: Aunt Nicole?

Nicole: Oh, Marley..

Marley: Hi.

Nicole: Hi! How are you today?

Marley: Oh, I'm great, thank you.

Nicole: Well, you look gorgeous.

Marley: Well, I should come by here more often.

Nicole: Well, you're invited anytime.

Marley: Thank you.

Nicole: I've really missed you a lot.

Marley: I've really missed you, too. Hey, so this is it? I have heard so much about this place. I think you and Cass should be so proud of yourselves.

Nicole: Well, we worked hard to get here. And, yes, yes, we are proud of ourselves. Come in and sit down.

Marley: Ok.

Nicole: So, how long you going to stay for? Is Jake giving you free reign or --

[Marley laughs]

Marley: Well, I haven't made any definite plans yet. But I do want to come by and ask you if you're going to definitely be at the surprise party tonight.

Nicole: Are you kidding? I wouldn't miss it for the world. Do you think that Donna and Michael have any idea?

Marley: No. I think this is going to be a complete surprise.

Nicole: Oh, great. Oh, Marley, it's so good having you back here. I wish you could move back here permanently.

Marley: Well, sometimes I wish I could, too.

Nicole: You know, it just still amazes me. I just can't get over it.

Marley: What?

Nicole: Well, the two of you -- you look so much alike in so many ways, and yet you're two completely different people.

Marley: Hmm. Hey, listen, could you do me a little bit of a favor and look after Vicky when I go home?

Nicole: What do you mean?

Marley: Well, it's just that -- well, you know how she is.

Nicole: Yeah, I do.

Oh, I can't believe what time it's getting to be. I have a meeting with my fabric cutter right now. I'm --

Marley: No, no, don't --

Nicole: I'm sorry I have to run out on you like this.

Marley: That's ok.

Nicole: But I will you see you tonight at the party?

Marley: You sure will.

Nicole: Ok.

Marley: Bye-bye.

Nicole: All right.

Marley: Oh -- listen, could I use your phone for just one minute?

Nicole: Oh, sure, go ahead.

Marley: Thank you.

Marley: Collect call from Marley, please. Hi, Jake. It's Marley. No, everything's fine. I was just calling to see how you're doing.. No! No, Jake. I don't want you to come out here. Yes, I love you very much, but I need this time alone. Jake, please! Please don't -- Jake?

Sam: So, what's up, doc?

Jamie: Why don't we -- why don't we sit down.

Sam: This is going to be great, isn't it?

Jamie: No, I just thought we might be more comfortable, that's all.

Mitch: Let's have a seat, Sam.

Sam: Yeah.

[Sam sighs]

Sam: Ok, doc, you got me sitting down. What's up? Well, look, he knows about it. Just tell him -- tell him what's going on, ok?

Jamie: All right, Sam. The CAT scan we took yesterday. It revealed that the clot is still there.

Sam: It's not dissolving, is it?

Jamie: No, not as quickly as we had hoped. And the pressure has caused some swelling in the tissue by the optic nerve.

Sam: Ok, well, what does that mean?

Jamie: Well, it means I'm going to have to increase your medication and watch you very carefully. And you are going to have to take it very easy for a while.

Mitch: Is that all for now? I mean, is surgery a possibility?

Jamie: No, at this point, surgery would be an even greater risk than just leaving things alone and allowing nature to take its course. The only danger at the moment, Sam, is if you over-exerted yourself. Some physical or emotional trauma could possibly cause that clot to dislodge, and if that happens, you could have a bigger problem.

Sam: Great. That's just great.

Mitch: How much of a risk is that?

Jamie: It's actually very small, provided Sam follows my advice. I'll need to see you again next week, Sam, and, of course, if the symptoms get worse, you have to call me right away.

Sam: Yeah.

Jamie: And, of course, you'll have to tell Amanda.

Sam: No. Uh-uh.

Mitch: Sam, are you sure that's -- I mean, it's not a bad idea.

Sam: Well -- Jamie said it's not a big risk, right?

Jamie: Right.

Sam: Ok. I don't want Amanda to worry about this. She's got so much to worry about as it is.

Mitch: So do you.

Sam: I know that. But, no, ok?

Jamie: Listen, Sam, I know I'm only the doctor here, but Amanda is my sister, and I think you should tell her.

Sam: No.

Mitch: Just be reasonable.

Sam: Guys, no, ok?

Jamie: All right, Sam, the decision is, of course, ultimately yours. But I think you're being foolish. Besides, Amanda being your wife and deserving to know, she could be a big help to you.

Sam: No, Jamie, uh-uh.

[Knock on door]

Jamie: I'll get that. I have to get back to the hospital anyway. But I think you should tell her.

Mitch: Just think about what he said.

Sam: Yeah.

Rachel: Jamie, what are you doing here?

Jamie: Sam?

Rachel: What's going on, Sam?

Vince: Hey!

Marley: Vince.

Vince: Well, look who came in! Hiya, Marley!

Marley: Hi!

Vince: Oh!

Marley: Boy, I am impressed.

Vince: Why? Because I thought that maybe you weren't your sister, Vicky, huh, huh?

Marley: Well, we do look a little bit alike.

Vince: No, no, no. It's not hard -- it's not hard at all if a guy pays attention.

Marley: Hey, you know what?

Vince: Hmm?

Marley: I heard congratulations are in order. I heard you and Mary got remarried, and I am so happy for both of you.

Vince: Oh, yeah, thank you, thank you. We are -- we are happy. So, where's Jake?

Marley: Oh -- he couldn't make it this trip.

Vince: Oh.

Marley: You know how it is -- too much work.

Vince: Yeah, well, I can understand, but couldn't he get away for a couple of days? I mean, come over on a weekend or something?

Marley: No. I don't think he'll be here at all.

Vince: Is everything ok?

Marley: Fine! Hey, listen, I am here to invite you to a party that Vicky and I are having for my Mom and Dad, and I would like you and Mary to come.

Vince: Well, we will have to check our social calendar, but maybe we can arrange something.

Marley: Oh, that would be terrific.

Cheryl: Hey, Marley, good to see you.

Marley: Hi, Cheryl. Hey, listen, I am starving.. Could I have that table over there, you think?

Vince: Yeah, yeah. Go right ahead.

Cheryl: Here, I'll get your food quickly.

Marley: Ok.

Vince: Oh!

Matthew: Hey!

Vince: Hiya, Matt.

Matthew: How you doing?

Vince: Hi. How you doing?

Matthew: This is my friend Kevin. We were roommates at prep school.

Vince: Hi, Kevin.

Kevin: Hi.

Cheryl: Hi, Matt.

Matthew: Hey, Cheryl. This is Kevin.. Kevin, Cheryl.

Cheryl: Hi. Nice to meet you.

Kevin: Hi. It's nice to meet you, too.

Vince: So, what can I do for you two guys?

Matthew: Well, Kevin is looking for a place to rent. He doesn't have much money.

Vince: Well --

Cheryl: Oh -- what about Mom's old room?

Matthew: Yeah. Is it available?

Vince: Well, I was --

Cheryl: Yeah. You guys want to look at it?

Kevin: Yeah, that'll be great.

Matthew: Sure, sure, sure.

Cheryl: Ok, I have some keys here. I think this one is the master.

Matthew: Mm-hmm?

Cheryl: It's the second door on the left. There you go.

Matthew: Great. Thanks a lot.

Kevin: Thanks a lot.

Cheryl: Ok.

Vince: Hmm-hmm. Pretty fast with the answers, huh? What, are you running the place now?

Cheryl: I'm sorry, pops. I thought it would be ok.

Vince: Yeah, well, I don't know if I like this idea so much. We don't know anything about that young man.

Cheryl: Come on, pops, he's a friend of Matt's

Vince: Uh-huh, uh-huh, but we don't know anything about him.

Cheryl: What's to know about him?

Vince: Cheryl, I am just saying you don't rent a room to somebody you don't know anything about!

Cheryl: Why don't you talk to Ada if you don't trust Matt?

Vince: It doesn't have anything to do with trust. It has to do -- wait a minute. What is he renting a room for anyway? School is not out yet. Now, how come the two of them are settling down here in Bay City all of a sudden?

Jamie: Hi.

Vicky: Hi, Jamie.

Jamie: What are you doing?

Vicky: Oh, I'm just hanging some decorations for my parents' surprise party.

Jamie: Oh, well, won't that kind of spoil the surprise if they see decorations in the hallway?

Vicky: Well, no. Actually, they'll just assume that somebody else is having a party down the hall, you know?

Jamie: Right. So how's Mikey?

Vicky: Oh, he's wonderful. In the bedroom sleeping right now.

Jamie: Well, good, good. Listen -- ahem -- you can do me a favor.

Vicky: Oh, Jamie, anything.

Jamie: You could keep an eye on Sam and Amanda for me for a while. Just see if they need things from time to time. I don't want Sam to exert himself too much before he's fully recovered.

Vicky: Sure.

Jamie: And there's something else that I have to tell you.

Vicky: What?

Jamie: Lisa and I have split up.

Vicky: Jamie, I'm really sorry. I guess you two just weren't meant to be together.

Jamie: No, I guess not.

Vicky: Hey, are you ok?

Jamie: Oh, yeah, I'll live.

Vicky: Well, you know, if there's anything I can do --

Jamie: No, thanks. I appreciate that.

Vicky: Um -- could you do me a favor and hand me that streamer right there, please? Oh, that's great. Yeah, that's perfect. Thank you. I guess I'll --

Jamie: Hey --

Vicky: Oh -- guess I wasn't paying attention.

Vicky: Jamie, this isn't right.

Jamie: What are you talking about?

Vicky: You're feeling this because you just broke up with Lisa.

Jamie: I know exactly what I'm feeling.

Vicky: No, you don't. I don't want to be a substitute for her. I want you to want me because of me.. And if that's not the reason, I think we could really end up hurting each other.

[Mikey talks]

Vicky: Oh, that's Mikey. Excuse me.

Vince: Oh, Scott!

Scott: Hey, Vince. What's up?

Cheryl: Hey, Scott.

Scott: Hey, Cheryl. How you doing?

Vince: Whoa, you look beat. You've been working late, huh?

Scott: You wouldn't believe what's going on, Vince.

Vince: It all has to do with Reggie's estate?

Scott: It's a complete mess. It's going to take me years to get it straightened out, I think.

Vince: Well, I can't say that I'm surprised.

Scott: Yeah, yeah.

Cheryl: So, what did you think?

Kevin: It's perfect.

Cheryl: Really?

Kevin: It's just what I need.

Cheryl: You know, my pops is a little strict about what goes on upstairs, but I think it'll be ok since you're a friend of Matt's.

Kevin: Oh, I promise I'm not going to be any trouble.

Cheryl: All right.

Kevin: No trouble at all.

Cheryl: We're going to need the first month's rent in advance. Is that a problem?

Kevin: Well --

Matthew: Hey, no problem, no problem. Right here, right here. I knew we'd run into this little situation. How much is it?

Cheryl: 175.

Matthew: 175. Don't worry about it. You can pay me back after you get a job.

Kevin: Thanks a lot, Matt.

Matthew: Listen, I got to go talk to Scott for a minute, ok?

Kevin: Sure.

Matthew: Hey, Scott?

Scott: Hi, Matthew. How you doing?

Matthew: Good, good, good. Well, not actually so good.

Scott: What's up?

Matthew: Hey, I need to talk to you about something, something legal.

Scott: Well, that's my job.

Matthew: Yeah. Kevin and I might need some help legally in some matters at prep school.

Scott: What kind of matters?

Matthew: Well, there's these --

Vince: So, Matt, Matt, this -- this guy Kevin is a real good friend of yours?

Matthew: Yeah, yeah, a good friend. Great.

Vince: And he's the kind of guy who keeps his nose clean, out of trouble?

Matthew: Sure, sure. He's real quiet, won't cause any trouble. Listen, I got to go, but I'll talk to you later, all right? Thanks.

Scott: Yeah, right.

Matthew: Come on, come on, let's go, lover boy.

Kevin: Ok. I'll see you later.

Cheryl: Ok. Bye-bye.

Rachel: Jamie said that the risk was minimal, and I'm sure it is. I just think you're making a huge mistake not to tell Amanda about this.

Mitch: I agree.

Sam: I know you do, Mitch, but the answer's still no.

Rachel: Sam, Amanda's your wife. She deserves to know what's going on with you.

Sam: That's the exact same thing Jamie said. But if the risk is minimal, I don't want her worrying about something that probably won't happen anyway.

Mitch: Then do what he says -- take it easy.

Sam: I will. I promise. But the both of you have to promise that you won't tell Amanda.

Rachel: Sam --

Sam: And Loretta, also?

Mitch: Ok. For now, even if you're wrong.

Sam: Look, I appreciate what you guys are trying to do, but it comes down to what I think is best.

Rachel: Yes, but you're involving us in this secret of yours.

Sam: I know. I'm sorry. Please, though, stick with me on this one?

Rachel: All right, for now.

Mitch: We'll get out of here and let you get some rest.

Sam: Thanks. I'm tired.

Rachel: Think about what we said.

Sam: I will.

Mitch: Yeah. And if you believe that --

Rachel: Ok, come on, let's go.

Mitch: If you need anything, call.

Sam: I will.

Rachel: Yeah, me, too, ok?

Sam: Thanks, guys.

Mitch: Get some rest.

Rachel: Bye.

Sam: Yeah.

Mitch: Remember, take it easy.

[Phone rings]

Sam: Hello. Yeah, this is Sam Fowler. Oh, right. Yeah, you're the lady who's teaching the Lamaze class. Actually, no, I don't think I'll be able to make it -- yes, I do know it's for two people, yeah.

Rachel: I don't understand why Sam won't tell Amanda. She could take it.

Mitch: I know, but it really isn't any of our business.

Rachel: Well, it is my business. I mean, Amanda is my daughter.

Mitch: She Sam's wife, and it's up to him to make a decision of whether he wants to tell her or not.

Rachel: I can't believe you're saying that.

Mitch: I just think that he should be the one to talk to her about his condition. I mean, that's up to him. That's not up to us.

Rachel: I guess you're right. I hope he's going to be all right.

Mitch: Well, so do I.

Rachel: Listen, have you talked to Matthew any more about the problem at school?

Mitch: He seems to still be trying to make up his mind.

Rachel: Well, we might have to make it up for him.

Mitch: We can't do that, Rachel.

Rachel: Well, we might not want to, but we might have to.

Mitch: He's 17 years old. It's about time he started making some decisions on his own.

Rachel: He needs help with his problem at school, Mitch.

Mitch: If he needs help, then I'm sure he'll ask us. We can't go in there and start pushing him around. If you do that, you're going to start causing him more problems than he already has.

Rachel: All right, well, I'll leave it alone for now. But if he can't straighten it out pretty soon, I'm going to have to go in and call the police.

[Music plays]

Bridget: Well, I do hope that Miss Donna and Mr. Michael -- I mean, that they're surprised.

Felicia: Oh, I'm sure they will be. You know, Vicky and Marley did a wonderful job putting all this together, didn't they?

Bridget: Oh, aye, didn't they? Did you see how they put the balloons up?

Zack: Yeah. Well, listen, that means the case might be tied up in the courts for years.

Scott: And why can't I file a motion to expedite the probate?

Zack: Well, you could, but I don't think it's going to do any good.

Vicky: Hey, hey, guys, no shop talk here. This is a party!

Zack: Right.

Vicky: Felicia, would you like an egg?

Felicia: No, thank you.

Vince: Hey!

Vicky: Hi, Vince!

Vince: You're throwing some party here.

Vicky: Why, thank you. Would you like an egg?

Vince: Oh, ok. Sure.

[Vince and Vicky laugh]

Vicky: I haven't seen Mary yet. Is she going to come by?

Vince: Oh, yeah, she wouldn't miss this for the world.

Vicky: Oh, great.

Vince: She had some loose ends to tie up at the hospital, but she'll be here. You look real good.

Vicky: Why, thank you.

Rachel: I wonder if Sam and Amanda are going to be able to be here today. It's probably going to be too much for Sam, but maybe Amanda will make it. Vicky, are Sam and Amanda coming?

Vicky: No -- well, they might stop by, but they're taking care of Mikey for me --

Rachel: Oh.

Vicky: So they might be by for a few minutes or something. Would you like one?

Mitch: Sure, thank you.

Felicia: Nicole!

Nicole: Hi!

Felicia: Oh, hi, honey! How are you?

Nicole: I'm good. How are you?

Felicia: You scared me.

Nicole: No, not them. Hi, Bridget.

Bridget: It's so good to see you, dear!

Nicole: You, too. You look great.

Bridget: Thank you.

Nicole: Hi.

Scott: Hey, Nicole. How you doing?

Nicole: How are you guys?

Zack: My, my, my, don't you look lovely.

Nicole: Oh, well, thank you. Gee, this place looks terrific, doesn't it?

Scott: Isn't this nice?

Nicole: Marley and Vicky really did a nice job.

Zack: Yeah, indeed they did.

Nicole: Have you guys seen Cass here? Is he here yet?

Scott: No, I haven't seen him.

Zack: I haven't seen him, either, uh-uh.

Nicole: Hmm.

Felicia: Oh -- quiet, everyone! I think they're coming! Somebody turn the lights on back there! All right, everybody, ok, now say "surprise."

All: Surprise!

Felicia: Oh --

Bridget: Oh, it's Sam! Oh, dear!

Liz: Ok, here we are.

Julie Ann: Oh, great. Listen, I'm heading on my way to Michael and Donna's party.

Liz: Ok, dear, have a good time.

[Phone rings]

Liz: Oh, wait. I'll get that.

Julie Ann: Oh, great. Thank you.

Cass: Hey, Julie Ann.

Julie Ann: Hi, Cass. So, are you going to the party at Vicky's?

Cass: Well, as a matter of fact, yeah, I am. There's a few things that I have to take care of here first, though.

Julie Ann: Oh, good. Well, I'm going to be on my way. I'll see you there?

Cass: Yeah.

Julie Ann: Ok.

Cass: See you later, then.

Julie Ann: Bye.

Cass: Yeah.

[Julie Ann laughs]

Cass: Bye.

Liz: I see. Well, Mr. Cory isn't available right now. No, I'm sorry, he won't be available today. He's in New York. Well, of course I could, yes. What would you like me to tell him? Uh-huh. Yes. And he has your number? Fine. I'll see that he gets this. Yes, I will. Goodbye.

Cass: Excuse me.

Liz: May I help you?

Cass: Yes, as a matter of fact, you may. I'd like to know what you found out about that list of publishers that Nicole gave you.

Liz: I can't tell you that.

Cass: What? Liz, I need that information. I've got to get it to Michael before he leaves on his honeymoon.

Liz: I don't wish to discuss it with you. Nicole gave me that list in confidence.

Cass: Well, just where do you think Nicole got the list from in the first place? She got it from me. And she went on and gave it to you without my permission, I might add.

Liz: I don't think it was necessary to add that.

Cass: Look, would you just tell me what you found out so far? I mean, this could be very important, and Mac's business is at stake here.

Liz: Well --

Cass: Please.

Liz: I can't tell very much yet. I mean, some of the publishers are European. It hasn't been easy for me to contact them.

Cass: Well, what about the money? The figures in the margin?

Liz: What I can tell is those figures represent recent takeover bids for the companies listed. What I can't tell is if they were hostile or friendly.

Cass: Ok, let me see the list.

Liz: I'd rather wait for Mac's return from New York to release that information.

[Music plays]

Mitch: You ok?

Sam: Yeah, I'm fine. I just came over to get a toy for Mikey.

Whoo, what a surprise.

Mitch: Exactly what you needed, huh?

Sam: Yeah. Look, I wanted to tell you I've decided to take the Lamaze classes with Amanda.

Mitch: You sure you feel up to it?

Sam: Look, I don't think it's going to be much of a health hazard. If I can survive that entrance five minutes ago, I think Lamaze classes are going to be easy.

Mitch: Well, I think you're probably right. You just maybe ought to discuss it with Jamie first.

Sam: Yeah, right. Look, I got to get back to the kid. I'll see you later.

Mitch: Ok.

Felicia: Hi.

Mitch: Hi.

Felicia: How's Sam doing?

Mitch: He's ok.

Felicia: Listen, I don't know where Donna and Michael are. It's getting kind of late, isn't it?

Mitch: Well, they're probably on their way to the airport soon.

Felicia: You think? Listen, I have a favor to ask you. Come on.

Mitch: Sure.

Felicia: Kevin needs to find a job. He's planning on staying in Bay City.

Mitch: Staying where?

Felicia: Oh, no, don't worry, not with us. In fact, he and Matt went over to Vince's to see about getting him a room over at Mary's Place.

Mitch: Ok.

Felicia: But what I was thinking -- you've been talking about needing an assistant, and I thought, well, maybe Kevin might be perfect. What do you think?

Mitch: Sure, maybe. Maybe it's a possibility.

Felicia: Good.

Vicky: Felicia. Have you seen Jamie around? I haven't seen him.

Felicia: No, I'm afraid I haven't.

Vicky: That's too bad. I wonder where he could be.

[Phone rings]

Vicky: I believe that's him now. Hello.

Marley: Oh, good, at last! I've been trying to get in touch with you for the past hour, and the line's been busy.

Vicky: Marley, where are you?

[Marley sighs]

Marley: Well, that's what I called to tell you about. I'm at the airport.

Vicky: The airport?

Marley: Yeah. Vicky, Mom and Dad convinced me to bring them out here. I think they want to get a head-start on the honeymoon.

Vicky: Oh, no.

Marley: I tried everything I could.

Vicky: This is great. This is just great.

Marley: I'm so sorry. Really, I am.

Vicky: Yeah. Well, I mean, it's not your fault. At least we tried.

Marley: I really am sorry, Vicky.

Vicky: Hey -- well, are you on your way home?

Marley: Yeah. I'll be back in a few minutes.

Vicky: Well, I guess we'll all still be here. See you later. Everybody, could I please have your attention over here for a minute? I have a little announcement to make.

[Music stops]

Vicky: That was Marley. She just called from the airport. My parents couldn't wait to get on their honeymoon, and they have taken off.

[All groan]

Vicky: I know, I know. It's too bad. But I figure we're all here, so we might as well just party! So let's go! Put on the music, and let's dance.

[Music plays]

Bridget: Victoria, dear, I'm so sorry. I know how hard you and Marley worked to plan all this.

Vicky: I know. It's too bad. But like I said, we can still have a great time, right, Bridget? A great time.

Bridget: Oh, yes, dear. Yes.

Bianca: Well, that's --

Cheryl: Ok, there you go. I think you're all set. You got your silverware -- great.

Man: Hey -- don't just walk away now, huh?

Cheryl: Did I forget to bring you something?

Man: No, no. I just want to talk to you for a while, all right?

Kevin: Get your hands off of her now.

Man: You got a problem, buddy?

Kevin: Yeah, and I'm looking at it.

Man: Well, why don't you mind your own business?

Matthew: Will you just calm down a little bit?

Kevin: No, I'm not going to calm down. I'm not going to let something like this happen again.

Matthew: All right, all right, let's go.

Sam: Yeah.

[Mikey talks]

Sam: Pretty good drawer, too. Yep. You know, Amanda and I, we're going to have a kid just like you. Well, maybe not a guy, but, you know, cute. Yeah. Going to be healthy and happy, just like you. I tell you what -- let's put this stuff away right now, ok? Let's put this stuff away. Let's take a walk. I'll show you the rest of my loft, all right? Here -- why don't you get up here. Whoa! Ok, you got that? You set? Ok. Now, let me get up.

Ooh. Oh, you're a big kid. Yeah, see, this is where me and Amanda live. Yeah, you know Amanda -- real cute? Here you go, have a bottle. There you go. Yeah, here's where I paint.

Mikey: Paint?

Sam: Yeah, paints.

Mikey: Got any pink? Got any pink?

Sam: Here, have some -- here, come on. There you go. Yeah. I wish I could tell Amanda about this stuff. I can't, though, you know? It's because I love her so much. I don't want her worrying about me when she's got plenty to worry about already. I want her to take care of herself so our child is as happy and as healthy as you are. Yeah?

Mikey: Yeah.

Sam: Yeah. Come on, let's go look out the window. Come on. Let's go look out the window. See? This is where we live. See, right here? See down there? You sure are cute, kid. You know, I wish you could tell me everything was going to be all right. Can you do that? Yeah? Well, good.

[Music plays]

Julie Ann: Ooh. Thank you.

Zack: And thank you. This thing is really impressive.

Julie Ann: Yeah. Isn't it nice?

Zack: There's a real art to that, you know?

Julie Ann: I'm sure there is a lot of work, a lot of sitting.

Cass: Hi. Excuse me.

Jamie: Oh, hi. How you doing?

Cass: How you doing, Jamie?

Vicky: Hi, Cass.

Cass: Is Nicole around? Hi.

Vicky: Yeah. Welcome. She's right up there.

Cass: Oh, ok. Sorry to bother you. Hey, Scott.

Scott: Hey, how you doing? Good to see you.

Cass: I'm doing fine. Good to see you, too.

Cass: There you are.

Bridget: Look who's here.

Cass: I'm surprised I didn't see you right off in that hot pink. Hi, Bridget. Do you mind if I borrow her for a second?

Bridget: Oh, of course, and you can take her with my blessing.

Cass: Thank you.

Nicole: Thanks, Bridget. Well --

Cass: Hi.

Nicole: It's about time. Where have you been?

Cass: Well, I was trying to get my list back from the dragon lady, your cohort.

Nicole: Oh, well, at least you're here now.

Cass: What about Donna and Michael? I didn't miss them, did I?

Nicole: Well, we all did.

Cass: What do you mean?

Nicole: I mean they're not coming. They had Marley take them to the airport early.

Cass: Surprise.

Nicole: Yeah, right.

Cass: Well, I could use a dance. Let's go maul each other on the floor.

[Nicole laughs]

Nicole: Cass.

Jamie: And so you're right about what you said earlier. We really shouldn't see each other.

Vicky: Jamie, I didn't mean that you should --

Jamie: I --

Zack: Hey, Jamie. How's it going?

Jamie: Hey, pretty good, Zack. How you doing?

Zack: Good.

Jamie: Listen, I got to run.

Zack: Already? You just got here.

Jamie: Yeah, I know, but there are some things at the hospital that really can't wait. So listen, you take it easy, ok?

Zack: Ok. Good seeing you, man.

Jamie: Good. Yes.

Zack: Excuse me.

Jamie: Bye-bye. And, Vicky, listen, thanks again for straightening me out earlier. I really could have made a bad mistake. Bye.

Singer: There's trouble in paradise

Vicky: Jamie --

Singer: There's trouble in paradise

Bridget: Victoria? Are you all right?

Vicky: Oh, I'm fine, Bridget, just great.

Bridget: Well, now, dear, I know you're upset. I know you're upset because your Mom and your Dad didn't come and you're disappointed because nothing -- well, your plans didn't turn out.

Vicky: Bridget, nothing has turned out the way I planned.

Singers: Oh, yeah
