Scott: Well, looks like he's not here.
Dawn: Uh-uh-uh. He's always here around this time. Come on.
Scott: Maybe it's a good thing he's not.
Dawn: Why do you say that?
Scott: Because I don't think this is such a great idea.
Dawn: Why not? We're going together. Chad's just going to have to accept that, right?
Scott: Dawn, Dawn, Dawn, you can't force me on the guy.
Dawn: I also can't lie about my true feelings about you. I have to tell him. He's all the family I have.
Scott: All the more reason why he's not going to like this.
Dawn: But he will, he will like it.
Scott: Hearing that you love me? I wouldn't count on it.
Dawn: He will. You're a catch.
Dawn: Are you kidding?
Scott: Yeah, come on.
Dawn: I snagged myself a lawyer with a gorgeous kisser.
Scott: Keep going.
Dawn: And I think that they're going to make you into a judge in a couple years, and, a couple of years after that, the Supreme Court.
Scott: Oh. Well, Chad would have a very tough time objecting to that, wouldn't he?
Dawn: My brother is no dummy.
Scott: Hmm. He's also got a beautiful, talented younger sister. Hmm. Oops. It's too late to turn back now.
Dawn: Hi, Chad.
Chad: What's going on here?
Dawn: Something that you might not like, but something that you're going to have to accept.
Rachel: I'm afraid you haven't met Sam Fowler. Liz Matthews, this is Sam Fowler.
Sam: Liz. You're the one everyone's been talking about.
Rachel: Yes, she is, Mac's best executive secretary.
Sam: Then you worked here before?
Liz: Cory Publishing, not "Brava."
Rachel: We're introducing her to everybody.
Liz: Yes, I see your name in Mac's personnel files, Mr. Fowler.
Liz: Why do you say that, darling? You have lots of fans at "Brava."
Rachel: He's very talented.
Sam: Thank you. She hasn't read the whole file yet, has she?
Rachel: Oh, you don't know Liz.
Liz: But he will.
Sam: Yeah. Well, I tell you what, I've got to go. Have you seen Mandy this morning, Mrs. Cory?
Rachel: Mandy. Uh, no, I haven't.
Liz: Mandy. I don't think I've met a Mandy yet.
Sam: Oh, she's my assistant. If you see her, would you tell her that I'm looking for her?
Rachel: If I see her.
Sam: Thank you. I've got some sketches to give Mr. Cory, Mrs. Matthews.
Liz: "Liz," please. Just go right in his office and put them on his desk.
Sam: Thanks, Liz.
Sam: Mandy, what are you doing here?
Amanda: Uh, Mr. Cory asked me to do some research.
Sam: You didn't tell me that.
Amanda: Yeah, I know.
Sam: There's a lot you didn't tell me. You just ran out.
Amanda: I'm sorry.
Sam: I tried to call you last night.
Amanda: Yeah, I know that, too.
Sam: Well, why didn't you try to call me back?
Amanda: Uh -- I don't know what to say.
Sam: About what? Mandy, come on, what's wrong?
Felicia: Boy, I'd like to go in there and stop them from doing this.
Mitch: Stop what?
Felicia: Hunting down Cass like he's some kind of a criminal. You know what, I am going to go in and talk to them.
Mitch: No, no, no, you don't. Cass has been missing for 24 hours.
Mitch: He kidnapped Nicole.
Felicia: He probably did that because he's trying to help her, she's in some kind of trouble.
Mitch: Reginald saw him murder the woman.
Felicia: Reginald Love? You're actually going to believe what that slug says?
Mitch: It doesn't look good, you know?
Felicia: Mitch, he's my friend. I know him.
Mitch: Well, he's not a friend of the police. I mean, they have evidence. What do you expect them to do?
Felicia: I don't know. I just know that Cass could never murder anybody.
Mitch and Felicia: Michael.
Michael: Hey. Felicia, Mitch. How are you?
Felicia: Michael, what are you doing here?
Michael: Well, my security men are helping Adam out and we're all coordinating through his office.
Mitch: What, they don't have enough manpower here?
Michael: Cass took Nicole.
Felicia: Michael, he would never hurt Nicole. You know that.
Mitch: Have they come up with anything?
Michael: No, not anything that I know of.
Adam: Listen, I want to know everything about this Monique woman. I want to know where she went to kindergarten, and I want to know in 30 minutes!
Felicia: Adam, what about Cass?
Michael: What about Nicole, Adam, anything?
Adam: Nothing yet. You know, this is very odd. I thought I knew Cass Winthrop.
Felicia: You do know him.
Val: Sergeant? This just came in from Washington.
Adam: Thanks. Cass Winthrop has never been fingerprinted.
Felicia: Well, that's good, isn't it? I mean, it means he doesn't have a record.
Adam: Or it makes it easier for him to get away with murder.
Nicole: No, get out of my way, Cass!
Cass: You can't leave!
Nicole: Ugh! Why?
Cass: It's too dangerous.
Nicole: For whom?
Cass: There's a murderer out there, Nicole.
Nicole: You keep saying that.
Cass: He's got to be stopped.
Nicole: Oh, from in here?
Cass: I'll come up with something.
Nicole: That's just what I'm afraid of.
Cass: Look, Rex knows that we can expose him. He's going to be looking for us.
Cass: Yes, us. And I'm going to need for you to cooperate.
Cass: I know, I know it's a shock.
Nicole: Don't you think that's kind of an understatement?
Cass: God, I wish I could make you believe me.
Nicole: I just spent the past few months with some loser who looks just like you. Only you say he's not you, that you're you.
Nicole: It's just a tad far-fetched, don't you think?
Cass: The guy is a psychopath! He's not going to stop until I'm in jail for what he did!
Nicole: This is crazy!
Cass: But it's true! And I'm going to prove it to you. Then you'll have to believe me. But I need for you to help me.
You are my way
you are my way
to another world
to another world
you are the one who lets me fly so high you are the rain when my spirits run dry
you give my life
you give my life
a hope that's real
'cause when I'm with you, you take me away to another world
Nicole: You say you can prove it to me? How?
Cass: Come on.
Nicole: No. No hands. No touching.
Cass: You know, it's making me nuts that I can't convince you.
Nicole: Convince me. Just don't touch me.
Cass: All right. All right, I'll stay right over here.
Nicole: All right, I'm listening.
Cass: Well, a man can't just change his identity and wipe away his entire previous life.
Nicole: I assume you're talking about this Rex character?
Cass: Yes, he must've left a trail, right?
Nicole: And this is your proof?
Cass: Well, as soon as I lock onto it, it will be.
Nicole: How do you figure you'll manage that?
Cass: Oh, uh -- well, he's an American expatriate, that much I know, so he has to have a passport.
Nicole: With whose picture on it?
Cass: Oh, come on, I'm just -- I'm just thinking on my feet, ok?
Cass: So there has to be a trail of paper -- birth certificate, credit history, dental records.
Nicole: Medical records.
Cass: Right! He had all that plastic surgery.
Nicole: To make him look like you.
Cass: You don't get that done in a barbershop, do you? There have to be records.
Cass: A doctor.
Nicole: I suppose so.
Cass: Don't you see? If we found the surgeon, we'd have an eyewitness.
Nicole: I know what you're saying.
Cass: You just don't believe it.
Nicole: You could be making this up.
Nicole: To throw me off. To get me on your side.
Cass: I do want you on my side. I haven't had anybody there in a long time. I'm Cass. I am. Look at this room. You see this room? They didn't want me to be able to escape, so they made it like this. Don't you understand that? After Rex kidnapped me, I just sat in this gray box and watched him live my life, accept comfort from my friends for my wife's death.
Nicole: But you said that you don't know if she's really dead.
Cass: I don't! I don't know anything except this stupid room! Maybe she didn't die in that airplane crash. Maybe he's holding her prisoner somewhere the way he held me here.
Nicole: Do you really think that could be true?
Cass: I think that Rex Allingham is evil and that he'd do anything, and I'm going to make him pay.
Nicole: You know, you really are like the Cass I know.
Cass: I am? I wasn't sure about that after everything that's happened.
Nicole: That still doesn't mean that I --
Cass: Oh, come on, what do you want from me, blood?
Nicole: Look, if there was this person, this -- this Rex -- he just was so convincing.
Cass: How did he look when he talked about Kathleen?
Nicole: Well, you said that she -- he -- he said that she always made him laugh.
Cass: Isn't there anything that I can do or say -- anything -- to make you believe me?
Nicole: I don't know. You scare me.
Cass: Even now?
Nicole: All this talk about killing. For all I know, you could be sick enough to have killed Kathleen, too.
Felicia: Cass is not crazy, Mitch.
Mitch: He doesn't have to be crazy.
Felicia: Well, to kill that woman, believe me, he would have to be crazy.
Adam: Listen, Val, I want you to get me the victim's personal effects. I want to go through that purse again.
Felicia: Come on. What is the matter with you people?
Michael: Felicia, you cannot deny that Cass has got Nicole.
Felicia: I'm sure he did it for a good reason.
Adam: Oh, and just what might that be?
Felicia: I don't know, Adam! But I know it has to be a good one.
Mitch: Felicia, I don't think this is doing any good.
Felicia: You think like they do, don't you? You think he's guilty.
Mitch: I didn't say that.
Felicia: I know that look on your face. Well, I'm going to prove that you're wrong.
Mitch: Look, I hope you do. I hope you prove everybody wrong.
Felicia: I will. Believe me, I will. Wally right now is out hitting all of Cass' spots. I'm sure he's going to find him and, when he does, Cass will have a perfectly logical explanation for all of this.
Mitch: I hope you're right.
Val: You want this stuff out there, sergeant?
Adam: No, Val, hang onto it for just a minute. Listen, I got to go back inside.
Felicia: Well, you go right ahead, look through that purse. I'm sure you're going to find something that's going to clear Cass.
Adam: Felicia, if it's there, I'll find it.
Michael: That's her stuff, huh?
Adam: You know, I thought a woman's purse was supposed to tell you everything about her.
Michael: Well, maybe this woman doesn't want you to know anything about her.
Adam: Look at this, a wallet full of cash, got a few credit cards. That's about it. I'm not even sure this name's for real.
Michael: What name is it?
Adam: "Monique Barejacques." And there's no address.
Adam: You know, with all these credit cards, there's got to be at least a billing address.
Adam: I want you to run down these credit cards for me, and fast.
Adam: That's about the only thing we got to go on right now.
Michael: What's that?
Adam: It's a key. How come I never saw this before? This was in the makeup case. That's kind of an odd place to keep it, don't you think?
Michael: No, because you know what that key is?
Adam: To a safe-deposit box.
Dawn: Well, it's just that --
Chad: Out with it, come on.
Dawn: Well, it's just that Scott and I have been getting closer.
Scott: Our feelings for each other have --
Dawn: Well, aren't you going to say anything?
Chad: If you want my approval --
Scott: No, we don't need anybody's approval, Chad.
Dawn: We just don't want to go behind your back.
Chad: Well, that's good of you.
Dawn: Chad, Scott is very important to me.
Chad: Dawn, I've only wanted just the best for you.
Scott: Then why are you making her feel guilty about this?
Chad: Well, what am I doing?
Scott: You're not letting her off the hook.
Chad: Look, it is just that I have seen a lot of girls Dawn's age --
Chad: Women. Women Dawn's age make a lot of mistakes because they're impulsive.
Dawn: Oh, come on, this isn't a mistake.
Chad: It is a mistake if it keeps you from your music.
Scott: I don't believe this. What's she supposed to do, not get involved with anybody, or is it just me?
Chad: I know about relationships. You start with your feelings running with your life. Then you stop working at your dream, you start blaming each other, and soon you don't have the one you love and you don't have the career you wanted.
Scott: Don't you think that's kind of a warped point of view?
Dawn: Scott --
Scott: No, no, no, I'm not -- Dawn helped me pass the bar exam. She got me through my first day in court.
Dawn: And Scott bought me a piano and he put it in his apartment. Chad, he encourages me to play.
Chad: Ok, ok. I get the point.
Dawn: You know, I want to disagree with Scott about one thing. I do want your approval. This is very, very important to me. Say it's ok, please?
Chad: Look, Dawn, I just want the best for you, for you to be happy.
Scott: And you don't think she's going to be happy with me, hmm?
Chad: It's not you. I mean, she's moving too fast in a relationship she's not going to be able to handle.
Amanda: It's nothing.
Amanda: I'm over it.
Sam: You're over what?
Amanda: Can we just drop it, please?
Sam: Look, it's because I lied, isn't it?
Sam: Mandy, I know you. It's because I wouldn't tell anybody that Mitch Blake and I are brothers.
Amanda: Sam --
Sam: Let me explain.
Amanda: You don't have to.
Sam: Of course I do. It's not the fact that it's Mitch Blake, it's the principle of the thing. I lied.
Amanda: It's not that big of a deal.
Sam: It is that big of a deal.
Amanda: Why do we have to keep going on and on about this?
Sam: It's because of the Corys, isn't it?
Amanda: What? Why?
Sam: I couldn't even tell you that Mitch was my brother, just because my brother has had a rough history with the Corys.
Amanda: I don't want to talk about the Corys or your brother.
Sam: Ok, I'm sorry. You're upset again.
Amanda: We have to talk, Sam.
Sam: Ok, sure.
Amanda: Not here.
Sam: Is there something else bothering you? All right, whatever it is, we can work through it, right? Right? Hey, come here.
Sam: Um, this isn't what it looks like.
Rachel: Of course it is. Mr. Cory's office is not the place for it, but I think I've told you that before. Mandy, you're very lucky it was me who walked in and not Mr. Cory. Sam, do you or do you not have some work to do?
Sam: Excuse me.
Amanda: It was my fault. I was waiting for him in here.
Rachel: That wasn't very intelligent.
Amanda: I'm sorry. I saw aunt Liz out there and I thought --
Rachel: Yes, well, it gets more complicated, doesn't it?
Amanda: I have to tell him the truth.
Rachel: I don't think you can put it off any longer.
Amanda: What if he hates me?
Rachel: For being a Cory?
Amanda: He hates rich people.
Rachel: Honey, you can't help who you are. You should realize that by now. If he can't handle it, that's his problem.
Amanda: How can you say that?
Rachel: Honey, if he can't forgive you for this, then maybe it wasn't meant to be.
Amanda: I'm going to tell him now.
Rachel: Wait a minute. Um, I think you'd better wait a little while.
Rachel: Well, it'll give me a chance to talk to your father, to tell him who Sam really is. It's one thing to keep secrets from your boyfriend. It's quite another to lie to your husband. That's unforgivable.
Felicia: You think he's guilty, don't you?
Mitch: You're putting words into my mouth.
Felicia: Do you or do you not think he did it?
Mitch: There's an eyewitness.
Felicia: Who, Reginald Love? I mean, he lies more than a used car salesman, for heaven's sake.
Mitch: There's evidence.
Felicia: I don't care, Mitch. I know he didn't do it. I know it. I know it in my heart.
Mitch: Can I say something?
Felicia: No, not if it's against Cass. I just don't want to hear it.
Mitch: Look, no, it's just what Adam said. The longer he keeps Nicole, the worse it gets for him.
Felicia: I wish Wally would call.
Mitch: Maybe somebody at "Brava" has come up with something.
Felicia: "Brava"? What would they know?
Mitch: Well, I mean, you know, they have reporters. Maybe they've come across something the police haven't.
Felicia: You think you could find out?
Felicia: Thank you.
Mitch: Will you come with me?
Felicia: No, I don't think so.
Mitch: You're not going to hang around here, are you?
Felicia: No, I'll go back to Tops, I promise.
Mitch: Ok, I'll see you there later. Then we can get something to eat. Maybe that'll make you feel better.
Felicia: I doubt it.
Mitch: I know how much you like happy endings, but things don't always work out that way. I'll see you later.
Adam: Mike, I think we got something here.
Michael: How long do you think it'll take them to find the safe-deposit box?
Adam: A day or two at the most, less if we're lucky. Listen, I think we got our first real break on this.
Michael: Adam, maybe those will clear Cass.
Adam: And maybe these will convict him.
Cass: I can't believe you said that.
Nicole: Look, I just saw someone who looks just like you push a woman off a balcony. It changes things.
Cass: You've also seen Kathleen and me together. You know how I felt about her.
Nicole: I thought I did. Oh, I don't know. I don't know anything anymore.
Cass: Forgive me. Please forgive me. I'm only thinking about what Rex did to Kathleen and me. I should've realized what he's done to you, too.
Nicole: This Rex -- he was definitely responsible for Kathleen's death?
Cass: He blames me for his wife's death. Monique said it was an eye for an eye.
Nicole: Well, why did he come back here? Why did he find me?
Cass: Because simple revenge wasn't enough. He wants more.
Nicole: By sending you to jail for murder?
Cass: And then leaving the country a free man.
Nicole: Well, he could've done that already.
Cass: But things didn't work out as he planned them. Don't you see? And now he's not going to leave until I take the fall for Monique's murder.
Nicole: Ok. Ok, you -- you say that you have been a prisoner here for months, right?
Nicole: Well, then how did you know so much about this Rex and what he planned?
Cass: Monique. She would fill me in on everything -- how he went after you. You know, I have to tell you, you didn't play very hard to get, you know.
Nicole: Are you kidding? Are you? We had a business arrangement.
Cass: Oh, business --
Nicole: No, that was it.
Cass: Well, Monique was very jealous of this business arrangement.
Nicole: Oh, well, I hate to speak ill of the dead, but Monique was hardly the picture of mental health.
Cass: This is true. This is definitely true. And she was pretty easy to use, too.
Nicole: Use? How?
Cass: Well, I talked her into going over to your room and searching your luggage.
Nicole: Wait a minute, you did that?
Cass: Yeah. I figured if I could get her jealous enough, she'd stop Rex from marrying you.
Nicole: I did see that woman dressed as a maid. She was looking through my bag.
Cass: If Rex has pulled this off, your days would've been numbered.
Nicole: He wanted my trust fund?
Cass: Yes, and once he got his hands on that, you would've been dead.
Nicole: And then you'd be set free.
Cass: No, no, set up to take the fall. You'd be dead, I'd be in jail, and Rex would be on some island somewhere drinking piņa coladas.
Nicole: Pretty neat little scheme.
Cass: Yes, but don't you see? He blew it right out of the water. And I've got a chance. I can get him! You see, I studied him as much as he studied me. I can make him pay for what he's done -- to Kathleen, to the McKinnons, to you, to all the people that I love.
Nicole: You're very persuasive.
Cass: And you're still scared.
Nicole: I saw you kill someone. Now, if you can prove that it wasn't you --
Cass: I will. I will. You wait here. You wait here.
Chad: Oh, if you're looking for Scott --
Mary: No, I know where he is.
Chad: I'll get him for you.
Mary: I want to talk to you.
Mary: Because I overheard your conversation with them.
Chad: Look, I don't want to get into it right now.
Mary: Chad, he's my son.
Chad: And Dawn is my sister.
Mary: That doesn't mean that she is going to make the same mistakes that you did.
Chad: My sister's been through enough and I don't want to see her unhappy anymore.
Mary: I understand that, Chad. But if you keep protecting her feelings this way, she may never know what it's like to feel loved. Now, do you want to be responsible for that?
Liz: Streamlining? That's what you call it?
Mac: Well, what would you call it?
Liz: Tormenting me with new procedures. But I'll learn. I shall learn.
Mac: You know, it took us over a month to streamline -- well, if you prefer, improve our systems?
Liz: Well, it's going to take me a couple of days to catch up with it all.
Mac: If there's anything you don't like now --
Liz: You'll hear about it from me.
Mac: Oh, is that it?
Mitch: I'm sorry, what, Mac?
Mac: Oh, I'm sorry. I left word with your department. I needed to see the cropped version of the cover photo.
Mitch: Nobody told me about that.
Liz: That's streamlining.
Mitch: Mrs. Matthews.
Mac: Liz, you remember Mitch Blake?
Liz: Good afternoon.
Mitch: Let me get the cover shot for you.
Mac: Thank you.
Liz: How you could hire Mitch Blake to work here --
Mac: He's a first-class photographer, Liz. That's all that matters.
Liz: Rachel is working here now. I mean --
Mac: I know what you mean, Liz. But Rachel and I have reached a new level of understanding.
Liz: A new level?
Mac: As long as we're totally honest with each other --
Rachel: There won't be any problem.
Liz: Excuse me.
Rachel: Darling, do you have a minute?
Mac: I think I could squeeze in 60 seconds for you.
Liz: I'll be right down. Well, streamlining has not hit personnel. They still can't find a thing.
Liz: That's where I'll be if you want me.
Mac: Thank you, Liz.
Mitch: One cover photo, cropped and ready to go, Mac.
Mac: Thank you very much.
Sam: Mr. Cory, I've got the department report I'd like you to see.
Mac: Oh, good. I'm afraid you'll have to wait in line here, though.
Mitch: Unless we need to talk, I'll just leave that with you.
Mac: Very well. Thank you, Mitch.
Mitch: I'll see you all later.
Mac: Right. Rachel?
Rachel: Um, I've got a better idea. Why don't we have lunch?
Mac: You buying?
Rachel: Let's go have lunch at home. I haven't been home for lunch since I started here.
Mac: That is a better idea, a superlative idea. It looks like you've come to the front of the line in record time. Let's go in. See you later.
Rachel: All right.
Rachel: It's not going to be any easier telling him at home. It's not going to be any easier at all, Rachel.
Adam: Val, thanks. That's fast work. Figures.
Michael: What does?
Adam: Monique's credit cards were not billed to a home address.
Michael: Where were they billed to?
Adam: They were sent to a trustee who paid for them out of a trust account in a Swiss bank.
Michael: That's not exactly your local housewife kind of behavior, huh?
Adam: No, and it's going to be really hard to track down, too. This could take months.
Val: Here you go, Sarge. Everything's coming in at once.
Adam: This is a rundown of that address book. Well, I'll be...
Adam: There's a listing on here for a private safe-depository company.
Michael: I wonder if the keys we have there might find a home at that place.
Adam: Well, you know what we say around the police station -- there's only one way to find out.
Cass: I found some of Monique's clothing for you to wear. But best of all, I found this little baby.
Nicole: What's it for?
Cass: It's for this little baby over here. He kept a phone locked up in here. Cute, huh? They didn't want me calling out. But those days are over.
Nicole: Who you calling?
Cass: Somebody who's sure to know the difference between me and Rex Allingham. And who's going to help me clear myself so that I can find him.
Felicia: Good afternoon. Tops.
Cass: Oh, my God, it's you.
Felicia: Who is this?
Cass: Uh -- I didn't expect to hear you. I didn't expect you to answer.
Cass: Oh, I can't tell you how good it is to hear your sweet voice.
Felicia: Honey, where are you? I know you didn't kill that woman.
Cass: I was counting on that. No, I didn't murder anybody, but I know I got trouble.
Felicia: It's ok. Don't worry about it. I'll help you.
Cass: You're my sweet friend.
Felicia: How can I help you? What do you want me to do, honey?
Cass: Listen to me very carefully and do exactly as I say.
Felicia: I will. You know I will. I've told everybody that you didn't kill anybody. I knew that you couldn't.
Cass: Felicia? Felicia?
Felicia: Mitch, hi.
Cass: Ok, I got you. Stay real close to the phone because I'll call you back very soon.
Cass: Yes. She's still the same. She still believes me, no matter what.
Nicole: Well, what did she say?
Cass: I was just waiting for somebody, for just one person to take my word for it. She knows I'm innocent. And now I'm going to be able to prove it to you and to everybody else.
Mitch: That was Cass, wasn't it?
Felicia: Cass? No.
Mitch: Oh, no? Ok, ok, then who was it?
Felicia: It was Wally. It was Wally. He was checking in about Cass.
Mitch: And what did he have to say?
Felicia: He said that, uh, there was no sign of Cass anywhere.
Mitch: Felicia, I know you.
Felicia: He said he was searching everywhere, but he hadn't turned up yet, Mitch.
Mitch: Felicia, don't do this to me. Don't lie to me.
Felicia: Why can't you trust me?
Mitch: All I wanted to know was who was on the phone.
Felicia: I told you.
Mitch: You've never lied to me. But if one person could make you do that, I know who it is.
Dawn: You are just the best brother in the whole world!
Scott: Did you do that?
Mary: Well, Chad wants the best for her, and that obviously includes someone wonderful to love her.
Scott: Mom, nobody else could've made him change his mind.
Mary: You might think of me as supermom.
Scott: Hmm. Well, I think of you as my mom, who's always doing the right thing. Hmm. I love you.
Mary: I love you, too. Goodbye, sweetie.
Scott: Ok, talk to you later, mom.
Dawn: Oh, she is so great.
Scott: She's the greatest.
Dawn: I wish I was as close to my mom.
Scott: Yeah, I'm a pretty lucky guy.
Dawn: I never really saw my mom very much.
Chad: Well, you saw her.
Dawn: Well, at family get-togethers. We all pretended we were happy and close, but --
Scott: What about your father?
Dawn: I never really knew him. I mean, I never even met him.
Scott: What was he like, Chad?
Chad: There is nothing to tell. I knew less about him than you knew about mom.
Dawn: Oh. I mean, I thought --
Chad: Look, he wasn't around, ok?
Scott: Ok, we don't have to talk about this now.
Chad: I tried to take his place, to be a father to you. If I'm overprotective, it's because you're the only family I've got.
Dawn: You know, I shouldn't push him like that.
Scott: Dawn, you have a right to find out about your father.
Dawn: No, I shouldn't pester him like that. It hurts him too much.
Scott: Ok, well, maybe there's another way to find out.
Dawn: Oh, there is.
Scott: Like what?
Dawn: Like you.
Scott: Yeah, Dawn, but --
Dawn: Could you help me? Please?
Amanda: "Sam, I know I should've told you this a long time ago --" that's so corny. "Sam, you know those rich people that you hate? I am one."
Amanda: Hello. "Brava." May I help you? Julie Ann, hi. No, actually, I'm just filling in for Michelle while she's on her lunch break. It's not that bad. What I've been doing with my spare time is trying to find an explanation I'm going to tell Sam. No, I haven't thought of anything yet. Everything I think of just seems to remind me of how dumb I've been. He'll never talk to me again.
Amanda: I've got to go.
Amanda: Hi, Sam.
Sam: Can you come here for a sec? Can you talk now? What is it you wanted to tell me?
Amanda: We can't talk here.
Sam: Ok, where do you want to go?
Amanda: Um, how -- how about to your loft? We have to be alone.
Sam: Come on, it can't be that bad.
Amanda: When can I meet with you?
Sam: How about tonight?
Amanda: Ok. Tonight.
Liz: Oh, Mr. Fowler?
Liz: I found your personnel raise. Did you fill out insurance forms?
Sam: Yeah, first day I was here.
Liz: Good. I'll take a read through them.
Scott: If it's important to you, it means a lot to me.
Dawn: Nobody else would have ever --
Scott: You ok?
Dawn: Excuse me. Just my throat's a little dry, that's all.
Scott: Ok, let's get down to business. I'm going to need to know your mother's first name and anything else you can find out about her.
Dawn: First name's Joan, but all her friends used to call her Joanie, and she's got dark hair just like Chad's and mine.
Scott: Got a picture of her?
Dawn: Yeah, yeah.
Scott: How about her background?
Dawn: Small town, just outside of Cleveland.
Scott: You know the name?
Dawn: No. She just called it some tank town. I'm sorry.
Scott: Hmm, that's all right, don't worry about it.
Dawn: You know, she told us that she dropped out of high school in her sophomore year.
Felicia: Mitch, please.
Mitch: Do you understand? He's wanted for murder.
Felicia: He's my friend. Do you understand that?
Mitch: Do you want to be an accessory?
Felicia: All right, so I'm an accessory. I've been a lot worse in my life.
Mitch: Look, this is not a game. If you know something about what's happening with Cass, then you need to call the police.
Felicia: No, forget it. I'm not doing it.
Mitch: It's for your own safety.
Felicia: I'm perfectly safe with Cass!
Mitch: What is this? What has gotten into you?
Felicia: You know, I could ask you the same thing. The Mitch Blake that I thought I knew would understand that sometimes a moral obligation has to come before a legal one.
Mitch: What about the obligation to take care of yourself?
Felicia: Not from Cass.
Mitch: Look, don't you see what's going on? Why won't you face the facts?
Felicia: I have to do what I know is right in my heart. I have to.
Adam: Oh, good, you're still here.
Michael: Hey, how'd it go?
Adam: Take a look at this stuff, will you?
Michael: Is all that from the safe-deposit box?
Adam: All of that is. Look at this stuff. It's like pieces of a puzzle.
Michael: Sure are a lot of pieces.
Adam: Just makes the puzzle harder to solve, too.
Michael: Huh. Let's see here. Oh, my gosh. This is pictures of a plane crash.
Adam: Mitch Blake took those pictures. You remember?
Michael: Yeah, this is the plane Kathleen was on.
Adam: And there's a bracelet in here, too. It matches the description of a bracelet that was stolen out of Mitch's room.
Michael: Is that Felicia's?
Adam: He bought this for Felicia as a gift, but he never had a chance to give it to her.
Michael: When? When did that happen?
Adam: Couple of months ago.
Michael: Huh. I mean, why would he steal this stuff?
Adam: Take a look at this. There's a man's watch in here, too.
Michael: This is from Mitch's place, too?
Adam: Mitch never said anything about a watch being stolen from his apartment, but take a look at the back of it. There's initials on it.
Adam: I couldn't think of anybody. I thought maybe you could.
Michael: I don't know. "R.A.," "R.A."
Adam: The big surprise, though, Mike, is this.
Michael: This is Kathleen's journal.
Adam: That's right. I was standing with Zack when he said to Cass that that thing had been destroyed in the plane crash.
Michael: Wait a minute, Cass didn't say anything?
Adam: Not a word.
Michael: Well, then this couldn't have been on the plane.
Adam: Somebody's been holding this thing and keeping it safe for a long time.
Michael: But who?
Adam: Well, this is where it gets real interesting. That safe-deposit box was rented to Cass Winthrop.
Cass: Look at me! Look at me and tell me I'm the man you were going to marry.
Nicole: I don't know, I can't tell any difference.
Cass: You don't want to tell the difference!
Nicole: Hey, don't tell me what I want.
Cass: There have to be differences! He and I are two different people!
Nicole: Look, if there was another man --
Cass: Rex Allingham is his name.
Nicole: Oh, fine, if there was a Rex, he looks exactly the same as you, identical!
Cass: He's not me.
Nicole: I trusted you.
Cass: Him. You trusted him!
Nicole: Oh, I don't know. You know, he saved my life. I'd be dead right now if it hadn't been for him.
Cass: How did he save your life?
Nicole: We went horseback riding. I was thrown.
Cass: He went horseback riding with you?
Nicole: Yes. And then he helped me negotiate with the French for a big fashion show in Monte Carlo, and I wouldn't even be in that show if it wasn't for him.
Cass: Well, he wanted to make you trust him.
Nicole: Well, he did. Like I never trusted another man.
Cass: I can't believe how many mistakes he made. Nobody noticed?
Cass: Yeah. Actually, you've really made my day. I thought he was smoother than that.
Nicole: What mistakes?
Cass: You said he went horseback riding, right?
Cass: I hate horseback riding. I hate horses, except for the ones who run a mile in a minute and a half.
Nicole: Well, he was a gambler, too.
Cass: Yeah, who spoke French?
Cass: He says he knows all about me, and he didn't -- he didn't even know that I barely speak French. Don't you remember when Kathleen and I were with you in Paris? She did most of the French speaking.
Nicole: I know, I mentioned that.
Cass: And what did he say?
Nicole: Well, he said we were in Paris and he's self-conscious about his French. What are you doing?
Cass: You're starting to believe me. And Felicia's going to help me persuade you once and for all.
Felicia: I do need the third-quarter figures for the advertising thing. The accountant is screaming for them, ok?
Chad: Oh, yeah, they're in the computer.
Chad: Just a matter of printing them out.
Felicia: Would you? I've never been very good at that. Ok?
Chad: I would love to.
Felicia: Thank you.
Felicia: Tops. Cass. I don't believe this is you.
Mac: That is a good report. Thorough, clear.
Sam: Thank you.
Mac: There is no substitute for clarity.
Sam: No, sir.
Mac: I'm very happy with your work here.
Sam: Well, I'm -- I'm glad.
Mac: You know, now that we've kind of adjusted to each other.
Sam: Well, thank you. I really respect your opinion. I won't take any more of your time, sir.
Mac: So, how are you finding Bay City? I mean, having a good time?
Sam: A good time?
Mac: Well, are you settled in? I know that can take time.
Sam: Well, I'm pretty much settled in, sir.
Mac: And you've met people, you've made friends?
Sam: Well, yes.
Mac: Good, good.
Sam: Well, there are a lot of nice people here.
Sam: Excuse me?
Mac: I -- I'm sorry. I mean, I'm glad you've made friends, and I should've known it. It shows in your work.
Sam: It does?
Mac: Very much.
Sam: Well, thank you. I'm glad you like it, sir.
Mac: Well, if I didn't, I would hardly have given you a shot at the "Brava" cover.
Sam: Yeah, and I appreciate that one.
Mac: You know, if you want it, I think you have a very promising future here at Cory.
Sam: It's good of you to say so, sir.
Mac: Well, yes. I guess we should both get back to work, right?
Sam: Yes, sir.
[Knock on door]
Liz: It's very strange, Mac.
Liz: I never would've guessed.
Mac: What's that?
Liz: I was checking through the insurance records in the personnel files.
Liz: Did you know that Sam Fowler named Mitch Blake his beneficiary?
Liz: And in the space for "relationship," he wrote "brother." Did you know that Sam Fowler was Mitch Blake's brother?
Felicia: Where is Nicole?
Cass: She's right here.
Felicia: And she's ok?
Cass: She's fine. I wouldn't hurt her, believe me.
Felicia: It's just that everybody here is so crazy thinking that Nicole is in some kind of danger.
Cass: Well, she's not. Felicia, it's really me.
Felicia: Honey, I know. You don't have to convince me of that.
Cass: No, no, no, no, no. I mean it's really, really me. It hasn't been me for the past few months.
Cass: There's an impostor. His name is Rex Allingham and he's been posing as me.
Felicia: Rex Allingham? What are you talking about?
Cass: He looks exactly like me, he speaks exactly the way I speak. He knows everything there is to know about me.
Felicia: Oh, Cass. I mean, Wally and I thought --
Cass: Honey, he kidnapped me!
Cass: Months ago. This is all part of his plan.
Felicia: What plan? What are you talking about?
Cass: He was going to marry Nicole and take her trust fund money. And then he was going to kill her and I was going to take the fall for it.
Felicia: Well, honey, a lot of people here really believe that you killed this woman.
Cass: Why wouldn't they? But it's ok because I've got proof that I wasn't the killer.
Felicia: Thank goodness.
Cass: You and Wally have to find someone for me.
Felicia: All right, who is he?
Cass: I was seen stealing a motorcycle.
Felicia: Oh, Cass.
Felicia: Stealing? I mean, are you crazy? Oh, that's -- that's good, isn't it? I get it. That's wonderful.
Cass: Yeah, I thought you'd appreciate that. And it was on White Oak Avenue, and this guy saw me stealing a motorcycle with a sidecar, so you tell Wally.
Felicia: I will. He's out looking for you right now, but he should be checking in. Honey, don't you think you should call the police and tell them all this?
Cass: Not until I find Rex.
Felicia: But can't they do that for you?
Cass: I can't risk being arrested. Rex will get out of the country and then there will be no way I can prove that he even existed.
Felicia: Right, of course. I understand.
Cass: We have to have proof.
Felicia: All right, then we'll get it. How can I help you?
Cass: Just hang by the phone. I love you.
Felicia: I love you, too. Take care, please? Bye.
Cass: That woman is one of a kind.
Nicole: She had no doubts at all?
Cass: She said she knew something wasn't right about Rex.
Nicole: Well, if she could see that, why didn't she say anything to me?
Cass: Felicia and Wally are like family to me. They're closer than family. Knowing that they were my friends and that they'd stick by me no matter what is one of the things that got me through this nightmare.
Nicole: Have you talked to Wally?
Cass: I can't wait. Poor guy's probably going nuts trying to track me down. I'll lay you five-to-one he even finds me here. He's probably got his contacts working overtime.
Nicole: That's the kind of friend you are.
Cass: Yeah. I guess you saw them with Rex. They probably tried to believe it was me, but they know me too well. They know me better than anyone. We've been through far too much together. We've had some good times. I learned loyalty from those two. You know, I never trusted anybody until them. What's wrong?
Nicole: Oh, nothing.
Cass: You had a funny look on your face.
Nicole: Thank you.
Cass: No, no, like you noticed something different about me or something.
Nicole: I want to believe your story, Cass.
Cass: Then believe it.
Nicole: Well, you could always get me to do whatever you want.
Cass: Rex could.
Nicole: By being you. My heart is saying, "just give the guy a chance."
Cass: That's a great heart you got there.
Nicole: But my head -- it's telling me that you're using me to get away with murder.
Cass: Your heart, Nicole. Listen to your heart.
