Michael: Ok, Donna, suppose that baby is mine. Why didn't you tell me?

Donna: Because I wanted you to come back to me out of love. Because I didn't want to use this baby to get you to come back home.

Michael: Well, you wasted your time, Donna, because nothing could get me to come back home.

Rex: Monique, you listen to me!

Monique: Let go of me!

Rex: I love only you!

Monique: You have been lying to me all along!

Rex: What are you talking about?

Monique: You are really in love with her!

Rex: You're crazy! Now, calm down!

Monique: No, and I will not let you marry her!

Rex: You're not going to stop me. No one is going to ruin this for me!

Monique: Let go of --

[Monique screams]

Adam: All right, stay back! Stay back!

Woman: What is happening?

Bridget: It's all right, dear. I'm here.

Zack: Watch out for the glass!

Wally: Oh, my God!

Zack: Something else might fall, come on.

Adam: Somebody get an ambulance, quick!

Bridget: We'll do it. I'll do it right away. Come on, Victoria. Excuse me.

Mitch: Come on, let's give them some room, Felicia. Let's get out of here.

Felicia: No, no, wait a minute.

Adam: She never had a chance.

Felicia: I think I know this woman.

Rex: Help, somebody! A woman just fell over the balcony! Please! Somebody call an ambulance! Nicole -- what are you doing here?

Nicole: No, you liar!

Rex: No, no, listen --

Nicole: She didn't fall!

Rex: Nicole --

Nicole: I saw you!

Rex: No, no, no --

Nicole: Yes, you --

Rex: No, you --

Nicole: You pushed her!

Rex: You don't understand! Nicole, please --

Nicole: Let me --

Rex: Listen to me!

Nicole: Let me go!

Rex: Nicole? Nicole!

You are my way

you are my way

to another world

to another world

you are the one who lets me fly so high you are the rain when my spirits run dry

you give my life

you give my life

a hope that's real 'cause when I'm with you, you take me away to another world

Rex: Nicole --

[Nicole screams]

Rex: You're wrong, Nicole!

Nicole: No, you pushed her!

Rex: No, no, listen to me!

Nicole: No! Stay away!

Rex: Nicole -- you don't understand how it was, Nicole.

Nicole: No! No!

Rex: Nicole!

Nicole: No! No!

Rex: Nicole, wait! Wait!

Nicole: No, no -- oh!

Rex: Let me explain!

Nicole: No! Help me!

Rex: Nicole --

Nicole: Help! Help! Help! No! Help me please! Somebody help me! Oh, God!

Sam: Oh -- hi.

Amanda: Hi. Well, look at that smile. I bet you used to work for the welcome wagon, huh? It can't be all that bad. Can it?

Sam: Um -- Mandy, please.

Amanda: It's definitely that bad. Is there a problem with work?

Sam: No, the problem's with you.

Amanda: Oh.

Sam: It has to do with honesty.

Amanda: Sam, look, it's really -- it's not that bad.

Sam: I haven't told you everything, Mandy, about me.

Amanda: Oh. What? What? It can't be that awful, can it?

Sam: It's about my brother. Listen, I know I should have told you this before, but -- see, we were kind of keeping it quiet because -- look, I could have lost my job if anyone found out that we were brothers.

Amanda: And?

Sam: My brother is Mitch Blake.

Amanda: Oh.

Sam: Have you heard of him?

Amanda: He's one of the photographers, isn't he?

Sam: Yeah, probably the best that Cory has. A few years ago, my brother crossed the Cory family. I mean, he really messed things up really serious. And so the Corys stuck it to him. I mean -- they were rich and he was poor. That's the bottom line, right?

Amanda: Yeah, right.

Sam: Anyway, so my brother and I decided that it would be best for us if we didn't tell anybody we were related. Except --

Amanda: Except what?

Sam: Except you're not just anybody. You mean too much to me. I can't lie to you. That wouldn't be fair.

Amanda: No. No, I guess it isn't.

Sam: Look, I'm really sorry. Please. This relationship means too much. We have got to be honest with each other, otherwise the relationship just dies.

Amanda: Right.

Sam: Thank you.

Amanda: For what?

Sam: For understanding. I didn't know how you'd react.

Amanda: Well, understanding is part of any relationship. Sometimes people make mistakes.

Sam: Yes. But now there's going to be no more lies and no more secrets. Ok?

Amanda: Right.

Sam: There is just one more secret that we have to deal with, though, tonight.

Amanda: What? Oh!

Nicole: Oh, no! Oh, no! Help me!

Rex: Nicole --

Nicole: Help! Help!

Nicole: No!

Nicole: No, don't! Oh, no! No!

[Nicole screams]

Cass: Nicole, take it easy.

Nicole: No!

Cass: Nicole --

Nicole: No, you killed her! I saw you kill that woman! Just let me go!

Cass: Killed -- killed whom? What woman? Nicole, I'm not who you think I am!

Nicole: I was there!

Cass: Nicole, don't do this!

Nicole: Let me go! I saw you! You killed her!

Cass: Killed whom? Tell me! Who's dead? Answer me!

Nicole: Oh, you know as well as I do! That woman, the one with the perfume! You -- you were having an affair with her!

Cass: Rex killed Monique?

Nicole: Yeah, you shoved her off the balcony!

Cass: No, no, no, I didn't. I mean --

Nicole: No!

Cass: No! You see, I'm not Rex!

Nicole: Oh, let me -- help!

Cass: You think I'm Rex!

Nicole: Oh, somebody --

Cass: I'm not, I'm Cass! I didn't do it!

Nicole: I saw you! You killed her!

Cass: You couldn't have seen me! What you saw was -- oh, no.

Nicole: Oh -- no!

Cass: They're going to think that I did it. They're going to be looking for me. I got to find Rex so that I can prove -- no, they'll never -- how do I get myself into these situations?

Nicole: Help!

Cass: Nicole, please --

Nicole: Help, someone!

Cass: Will you please be quiet? I'm trying to think.

Nicole: Help me --

Cass: Please be quiet, Nicole. I'm going to have to -- we got to go someplace where we can think this through. Come on.

Nicole: No!

Cass: Nicole --

Nicole: No!

Cass: Please. Now, I have to do this, I'm sorry, but --

Nicole: No, no!

Cass: Trust me, it'll be ok.

Nicole: No! Help! Oh, somebody, please -- oh! Help!

Adam: Come on, Zack, get these people out of here, will you?

Zack: Right. Come on, everybody get back.

Colette: Maybe we should cover her up or something.

Zack: Now, there's no point in crowding around.

Adam: Felicia, can you identify this woman?

Felicia: No. I saw her in the hallway.

Adam: What hallway?

Felicia: Outside Cass' suite.

Adam: Cass? Where is Cass? Has anybody seen him?

Michael: Adam, Adam! What happened? Anybody -- oh, my God.

Adam: She's dead.

Donna: That woman --

Adam: What woman? Have you seen her, too?

Donna: This is awful.

Adam: Wait a minute, Donna, can you identify this woman?

Donna: Yes -- I -- no. I mean, she was dressed as a maid in Nicole's suite yesterday. We caught her going through some of her things.

Wally: Adam, I found Val.

Adam: Wally, good. Listen, Val, I want you to get on the call. Get me some backup. I want you to call a coroner, get a wagon down here, and then find Cass Winthrop, will you?

Val: You got it.

Adam: Wait a minute, you take anybody you need, but you get Cass down here now.

Val: Right.

Donna: I mean, I -- Nicole was just telling me that she -- wait a minute. Where is Nicole? Where is she?

Felicia: She's not -- she's not here.

Donna: What?

Mitch: She's in her room down the hall, isn't she?

Donna: No. I mean, she would have come running, I mean, from all the noise.

Michael: All right, Donna, calm down. I'll find her, all right? Zack, come on.

Zack: Yeah, right.

Felicia: Adam, wait a minute, wait a minute. I don't want you jumping to conclusions here. I mean, you don't really think that Cass had anything to do with this woman falling, do you?

Mitch: Nobody's saying that, Felicia.

Adam: We just want to talk to him. He's connected to this woman somehow, Felicia.

Felicia: But you don't think that he had anything to do with what happened to her? Not Cass?

Reginald: He most certainly did because I saw him. Cass Winthrop pushed this woman to her death.

Donna: What? No.

Nicole: Cass, don't do this, please! Oh, somebody!

Cass: Nicole, will you please --

Nicole: Somebody help me!

Cass: Will you be quiet? I can't strap you into this thing with you yelling in my ear.

Nicole: Oh! Oh, you've gone completely insane! You're kidnapping me and -- and you're going to kill me!

Cass: I --

Nicole: And you want me to be quiet? Help!

Cass: Nicole, I just don't want to be deaf, ok?

Nicole: Oh, somebody!

Cass: I'm not going to kill you! I'm not who you think I am! Just calm down.

Nicole: Please help me!

Cass: Please, be quiet.

Nicole: Oh!

[Engine sputters]

Cass: Don't fail me now, baby. Come on, come on.

Nicole: Oh -- help! No!

[Engine starts]

Nicole: No!

(Applause and cheer)

Amanda: Oh, Sam.

Sam: Do you like it?

Amanda: It's beautiful. It's fantastic.

Sam: It's you.

Amanda: It must have taken you hours to do this.

Sam: A few hours thinking about you? That's not so tough.

Amanda: What is this? Takeout menu?

Sam: Mexicana, your favorite food.

Amanda: Oh.

Sam: That's the cork from that bottle of wine you bought.

Amanda: That? You saved that?

Sam: Well, it was an interesting wine.

Amanda: Neither one of us could drink it.

Sam: True.

Amanda: But it was cheap.

Sam: Yeah, well, you can say that. You see, all these things remind me of you, of who you are.

Amanda: Cheap wine, huh? Thanks.

Sam: No, it's the thought that counts.

Amanda: Gosh, you really do have me pegged -- gallery tickets, my number at work, a "Brava" heading. Here's my name.

Sam: Mandy Ashton. I'm so lucky I met her.

Wally: I don't care what anybody says. Cass would not push anyone off of anything.

Mitch: Reginald Love says that he did.

Wally: Well, thanks a lot, Mitch. Since when did we start believing Reginald Love?

Adam: All right, doc, any evidence that she was pushed?

Doctor: Well, there are some marks around the throat, bruises not from the fall or the glass.

Adam: Wait a minute, you mean she was strangled?

Doctor: Maybe. There was a definite struggle before the fall, though.

Felicia: That doesn't mean that it was Cass, Adam.

Reginald: It certainly was Cass. I saw him.

Adam: Cool it, both of you. Thanks, doc. Appreciate it.

Doctor: You'll have a full report as soon as possible.

Adam: Val? I want you to get an A.P.B. out on Cass Winthrop.

Val: Right.

Felicia: Adam, please, you don't have to do that.

Adam: Take it easy, Felicia, it's standard procedure. Now, listen, tell me about this woman. How many times did you see her?

Felicia: I saw her once. I didn't even talk to her.

Adam: Donna, how about a name?

Donna: No. No, we just had a few words. She -- we called security, and then she just disappeared.

Reginald: She was obviously Cass' mistress.

Adam: How do you know that?

Reginald: Well, she was arguing with him vehemently and she wanted to stop him from marrying Nicole.

Felicia: Adam, please --

Michael: Hey --

Donna: Michael? Michael, where's Nicole?

Michael: Nicole just took off with Cass in a motorcycle.

Felicia: What?

Adam: They left together?

Michael: Yeah, well, look, she was struggling. It looked like she was, anyway. We couldn't reach her in time.

Felicia: That's impossible. That's impossible, Adam! It is.

Zack: Look, it was one of those delivery cycles with the sidecar. I got the license number.

Felicia: Adam --

Adam: Don't worry, we'll find him.

Donna: Michael, I am -- I'm so frightened.

Michael: Donna, it's going to be ok, really.

Vicky: Dad, what about aunt Nicole?

Michael: I don't know. Vicky, we'll find her. And we'll get an explanation -- somehow.

Nicole: No, stop!

Cass: Nicole --

Nicole: No!

Cass: Nicole --

Nicole: No!

Cass: Are you crazy? You're going to get hurt, Nicole! Nicole, stop it!

Nicole: Stop, you --

Cass: Nicole!

Cass: Nicole? Are you all right? Huh?

Nicole: No thanks to you!

Cass: Didn't anybody ever tell you not to hit somebody while they were driving a motorcycle?

Nicole: Look at this! Look at my dress! Disgusting!

Cass: Actually, I think it's hazelnut.

Nicole: God, where are we?

Cass: Never mind. We're leaving. Come on.

Nicole: No -- oh, a train! We must be by Union station. Cass, you can't take a woman across the state line.

Cass: Will you come on?

Nicole: No!

Cass: Nicole --

Nicole: Just let me go!

Cass: Nicole, listen --

Nicole: Well, look, why don't you just run now? Just run! The cops will be looking for you. Go!

Cass: Nicole, I know -- I know you're scared. Please don't be scared.

Nicole: No -- let go!

Cass: Nicole --

Nicole: Oh, my ankle!

Cass: Listen, I also know that you've been through hell. In fact, you've been through a lot more than you even realize.

Nicole: Oh, yeah? What's that supposed to mean, huh?

Cass: I'm not -- I'm not the murderer. I'm not the man who did that, who killed that woman.

Nicole: Are you insane? I saw you.

Cass: No, that wasn't me that you saw. I didn't do it. In fact, Rex is probably looking for you right now.

Nicole: Who?

Cass: Rex.

Nicole: Who's Rex?

Cass: He's the man you saw, the one who wasn't me.

Nicole: Oh -- you are insane. No!

Cass: Wait a minute, Nicole --

Nicole: Just let me go!

Cass: Nicole, wait a minute! He probably killed Monique because he's really in love with you! Come on, we got to get out of here.

Nicole: Oh, please!

Cass: Come on. Nicole --

Nicole: Please, just let me --

Cass: Nicole --

Nicole: Just let me go!

Cass: Nicole --

Nicole: Just let me --

Amanda: I think I want to leave this here. I'm going to put it right here, where we can both look at it while we're working or while we're just together.

Sam: I like that.

Amanda: I want us to share everything, Sam -- our dreams, our secrets.

Sam: Ok. Ask me anything, please. My life is an open book to you, Miss Ashton. I mean that. Hey, come on, no secrets here. Total honesty, right?

Amanda: Right.

Sam: Really -- ask me anything you want. I want you to meet Mitch. You're going to really like him. I'd like to meet your family, too.

Amanda: Uh-huh.

Sam: Come on. We're going to make it, Mandy. We're going to make it. You've done what no other woman has ever done for me. You've touched me so deep inside. Do you know what you've gotten yourself into?

Adam: Now, look, I want to know why you were there. What were you doing? Were you following Cass?

Reginald: Sergeant, do I need to remind you I was the father of the bride? I saw my future son-in-law quarrelling with a strange woman just before his wedding. Naturally, I was curious for Nicole's sake.

Adam: Oh, right, yeah. So -- so what did you do, you hid?

Reginald: And I saw Cass Winthrop get terribly angry, then suddenly he pushed the poor woman off the balcony.

Adam: Deliberately?

Reginald: Yes.

Adam: There's not a doubt in your mind?

Reginald: I make it a practice never to doubt myself.

Adam: Yeah, ok, all right. All right, then what happened?

Reginald: Well, Cass started to run and he came upon Nicole. She was terribly frightened.

Adam: Wait -- Nicole saw this woman pushed over, too?

Reginald: Yes. She ran away from Cass, he chased her. I tried to go after them, but I'm hardly quick on my feet anymore.

Adam: All right, that's all.

Reginald: What do you mean, "that's all"? What about my daughter?

Adam: We're doing everything we can, Mr. Love.

Reginald: Which, as usual, is insufficient.

Adam: Val?

Val: Sir?

Adam: Would you escort Mr. Love out, bring Felicia in?

Val: This way.

Adam: Felicia, look, we don't know nearly enough about this woman and there wasn't an I.D. on the body when she was found. Now, you said that you saw this woman in the hall outside of Nicole's room.

Felicia: Yes, I did.

Adam: Why did you see her?

Felicia: What?

Adam: You heard me.

Felicia: Well, I -- you know women. They can notice other women, can't they?

Adam: Felicia, why?

Felicia: She had a very distinctive kind of perfume, that's all.

Adam: And?

Felicia: Adam, please.

Adam: Come on, Felicia, all of it. I need all of it.

Felicia: All right. I -- I was afraid that Cass might be having an affair with her.

Adam: An affair?

Felicia: Now, wait a minute. Now, I don't want you to be judgmental about this. I mean, if he's having an affair, I mean, that doesn't mean that he's a murderer, does it?

Adam: Why do you think they were having an affair? What makes you think that?

Felicia: It's -- it's the perfume. I smelled it before on a scarf that he had that he was going to give to Nicole, but -- Adam, please. He didn't commit murder. I -- I know him. He would never do anything like this. Honestly, he wouldn't.

Adam: All right, all right, all right.

Felicia: I mean, if he wants to have an affair, I mean, that's really his business, isn't it? Isn't it?

Adam: Maybe. We're going to have to find him first. Come on.

Michael: Look, any word yet?

Adam: No, not a thing, but we'll let you know as soon as we find out anything.

Michael: Good.

Adam: Listen, Mike, I really appreciate you letting me use this place for questioning. That other place was a madhouse.

Michael: Adam, my house is your house. I got my guys on this. They'll do what they can.

Adam: I really appreciate it, huh?

Michael: Ok.

Adam: Listen, you hang in there, huh?

Donna: Thank you, I am trying. Michael, thank you for everything that you've done.

Michael: Donna, no matter what we've been through, Nicole is still family, and I'll do everything -- everything in my power to help.

Nicole: Oh, now where are we?

Cass: This is the end of the line. It's someplace safe where the cops won't get me and where maybe I can make you understand.

Nicole: Oh, Cass, I already understand what you're going to do.

Cass: No, no, no, you don't understand anything, Nicole! I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm not going to hurt you. Maybe it's coming back to this room after finally getting out.

Nicole: Who lives here?

Cass: I do. I mean, I did for the past three months.

Nicole: You rented it?

Cass: No. I was a prisoner here. They had me locked up here all that time. I couldn't get out.

Nicole: Well, then why would you come back here?

Cass: Because it's the only place I know where people won't find me.

Nicole: Then you --

Cass: Nobody will find me.

Nicole: You planned on coming back here all along.

Cass: No, I -- Nicole, you got to believe me. I was a prisoner here. You see this camera over here? They had that set up up here. They watched me all the time. They watched my every move. They studied all my mannerisms -- how I walked, how I ate, how I brushed my teeth, how I combed my hair -- everything. And the mirror -- I stole that compact from Monique so that I could learn the combination to the lock. You see, this door won't open unless you know the code to the door. That was kind of clever, wasn't it?

Nicole: Yeah. Yeah, that -- that's a nice mirror. Um -- since this place makes you so upset, though, why don't we go.

Cass: Nicole, you think I'm crazy, don't you?

Nicole: No. You're excited.

Cass: Listen to me. I didn't kill that woman.

Nicole: I saw you.

Cass: No! You saw Rex.

Nicole: Rex again? What's his last name?

Cass: Allingham.

Nicole: It's not Winthrop, like yours?

Cass: No, no, no, no. I don't have a split personality. He's a real person.

Nicole: And you call him Rex?

Cass: I -- that's not what I called him, that's his name. But you called him Cass. Oh. You see, this man looked a lot like me to begin with, and then he fixed it so that he could pass as my double. He had plastic surgery. He dropped a few pounds. He copied my speech patterns. Everything. And he almost pulled it off.

Nicole: Pulled what off?

Cass: He wanted revenge. So he took my place and he locked me up in here. Once he married you and got ahold of your trust fund money, he was going to kill you. And then he was going to dump me back into Bay City to take the blame, and they were going to take off together.

Nicole: Who?

Cass: Rex and Monique.

Nicole: But if you were going to run off with her, then why did you kill her?

Cass: I didn't kill her, he did! I'm not the one you should be afraid of, it's Rex!

Nicole: Ok. Ok. I'm afraid of Rex.

Cass: Right. Monique was so jealous that he must have -- I don't know. Maybe he wanted her dead because he wanted to stay with you and the trust fund. But anyway, he killed Monique. The man you saw murder Monique was Rex.

Nicole: Rex. Yeah.

Cass: And when he killed her, he blew his entire plan right out of the water. So that -- we have a chance to catch him now. Nicole, I prayed for this chance. I promise you, I have prayed for this chance, but I need your help.

Nicole: Cass --

Cass: No, no, Nicole --

Nicole: You -- no --

Cass: You're the only person that really, really knows him. You know him better than anybody else. You know his habits. You -- you know if he's gone someplace to hide. You'd know where that would be.

Nicole: Cass --

Cass: No, please, just try to think, all right? Did he ever mention a place that he went to regularly? Or did he ever call anybody, a helper, a backup man -- anything?

Nicole: What about Monique?

Cass: Well, yes, of course he contacted her, but she's dead.

Nicole: Cass, you were having an affair with her. I've suspected it for sometime, but that doesn't explain why you --

Cass: Oh, no. No, no, no, no. You caught on to Rex. He had the affair, not me.

Nicole: Oh! You know, I have never heard anything so absurd in my life. Cass, please. You have to let me go.

Cass: I know that this is a totally unbelievable story, but I need you to trust me. I need you to help me.

Nicole: No, Cass.

Cass: Please, Nicole. We can catch him, I know we can. Wait a minute, you're the only one that saw the murder, right?

Nicole: I don't know. I guess -- I guess I probably am.

Cass: Right! Yes! All right, that's a start. The first thing you have to do is tell the authorities that it wasn't me.

Nicole: No, Cass. No. This is insane.

You're insane, and what you have to do is turn yourself in now. Hiding from blemishes?

Nicole: Cass, you're tired. You've been through a lot. But, look, there is something that you have to understand.

Cass: What?

Nicole: There is no Rex.

Cass: There is a Rex.

Nicole: No. I am sorry, Cass, there isn't.

Cass: There is a Rex! He kidnapped me! He locked me up in this place for three months. I was held hostage here. He took away the -- the most precious thing I ever had. What he did to Kathleen --

Nicole: Cass -- Cass, I'm sorry. I know you loved her. And it still must hurt very much. But you can't just start making things up. You can't do that. Kathleen died in a plane crash, and you were there, too, remember?

Cass: No, I wasn't there! And Kathleen didn't die in a plane. If Kathleen is dead, she was murdered. Nicole -- oh, please, sit down. I'm not going to hurt you. And you can't get out of here unless I let you out because I'm the only one who knows the code to that door. So please --

Nicole: Cass, why don't you --

Cass: Sit down. Please. And I'm going to tell you a story about obsessive compulsion and, ultimately, revenge. The victims -- Kathleen, you, and me.

[Phone rings]

Michael: Yeah, Michael Hudson. Where? Ok, fine. Thanks, Adam. Yeah, I'll see you soon. They just found the motorcycle at Union station, abandoned.

Donna: The train station? Michael -- Michael, he could have taken her anywhere by now.

Michael: Donna, stay -- stay calm, all right? I need to get down there and check it out and see if there's anything I can find, and as soon as I find anything, I'll call you, all right?

Donna: All right. Michael? Thank you.

Michael: Yeah. Nicole is family, Donna. I love her. And don't you worry, nothing's going to happen to her.

Sam: We've got everything we need. We really do. We're both going to work ourselves right to the top.

Amanda: Is that where you see yourself just a few years from now, the top?

Sam: Well, of course. I mean, where else? I mean, we could start our own magazine. You could have a gallery and hang my paintings.

Amanda: You have it all figured out, don't you?

Sam: My whole life, yes. I want kids. I want lots of kids, definitely. I've always wanted a kid, you know, to teach how to play baseball and football and all that. You see, my brother, he has a kid. He's about 14, 15 maybe. His name is Matthew. You're going to like him. He's terrific. I can't wait for you to meet him. Of course, he'd probably get a crush on you right away, but -- hey, Mandy? What's wrong? Come on, now. Come on, what's wrong?

Amanda: Sam -- nothing, I'll be all right.

Sam: No, come on.

Amanda: I've just got to go.

Sam: Why? What? What did I do?

Amanda: I can't explain.

Sam: If it's something I said, I'm sorry. I --

Amanda: I can't! I'm sorry.

Sam: But, Mandy --

Amanda: Grandma. I thought you'd be at the wedding.

Ada: Well, somebody called from "Brava." The wedding didn't happen.

Amanda: Really? That's weird. I wonder why.

Ada: They didn't say. What's the matter?

Amanda: Aren't mom and dad home?

Ada: Well, they were all dressed up anyway, so your father took Rachel out on a date. I'm taking the rest of the day off.

Amanda: That's great. Um -- I think I'm going to go upstairs --

Ada: I think you're not going anyplace. Not until you tell me why you've been crying.

Amanda: Well, you know me. I never cry.

Ada: Oh. That's right, you never cry.

Ada: What is it?

Amanda: I love him so much, Grandma.

Ada: Who?

Amanda: Sam Fowler.

Ada: Is that why you're crying?

Amanda: No. I'm crying because the girl that he loves is a total louse.

Ada: Who is she?

Amanda: Me.

Ada: Oh, I don't think you're such a louse.

Amanda: No, I am. I created Mandy Ashton, and now he's falling in love with her.

Ada: Well, "Mandy Ashton" is just another name for Amanda Cory.

Amanda: No, it's not. Mandy Ashton is hard-working, poor, and honest. She's everything that he's never found before in a girl.

Ada: He just tell you that?

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Ada: Uh-huh.

Amanda: I thought I had everything under control. How could I be so stupid?

Ada: Nothing changes but the date.

Amanda: Mom never had to worry about people thinking she was or wasn't poor.

Ada: No, she never had to worry about it, she was poor. She wanted to be somebody so bad she could taste it. She thought she could do it all by herself.

Amanda: Can I ask you something?

Ada: Sure.

Amanda: Don't tell her I asked, but what did she do when she felt like she was messing things up?

Ada: Well, she took things as they came and she made the best of it. She was very stubborn but she was strong -- like you.

Amanda: I don't know about that.

Ada: I do. Do you really love this guy?

Amanda: I really do.

Ada: Well, then let him know that he is getting a great girl, no matter what her name is.

Cass: I know it sounds like a science fiction story, but Rex changed himself so that he'd look exactly like me.

Nicole: Cass --

Cass: And don't tell me that he doesn't exist because I promise you he does.

Nicole: Ok, he does.

Cass: And he's got to be stopped. But to do that, I need your help. Maybe if I jog your memory, you can come up with something, anything so that I can get to him before he leaves the country, ok? Ok. So where do I begin? Uh -- Paris. You remember when Kathleen and I were with you in Paris?

Nicole: Of course.

Cass: We had some good times, didn't we?

Nicole: Yeah. I really hoped I could get to know you both better while you were there.

Cass: It's funny -- Kathleen said the same thing. We were a real trio, the three of us. Ok, never mind. This is the hardest part of the story. The whole time I was with Kathleen, I never even looked at another woman, but one looked at me. Her name was Alicia Allingham. She was Rex's wife. Remember when Kathleen went to London on that business trip for a few days?

Nicole: Yeah?

Cass: Well, I got a little lonely one night and I -- I went out for a few drinks to this bistro -- you know the one on Rue Madeline. And this woman was sitting there staring at me. I guess I was flattered, so when she struck up a conversation, I played along. How was I to know that it was a mistake to even talk to this woman?

Nicole: What did she do?

Cass: She became obsessed with me. She claimed that she was absolutely fascinated with me. She kept commenting on my hair, my mouth, my hands.

Nicole: She was pretty?

Cass: Oh -- she was beautiful. But if I had half a brain, I would have realized what was happening. I was a jerk. So I let this beautiful woman flirt with me. I bought her a drink. I -- I was my usual charming self. And when the night grew late, I said goodbye to her and I went back to my room alone. It all seemed perfectly harmless to me. But as it turned out, she was attracted to me because I reminded her of her husband. There was an amazing resemblance. And she went over the edge. She started showing up everywhere. She started following me, calling the hotel, walking up to me on the street when Kathleen would go off for a minute to look at a store window or something. It became a nightmare.

Nicole: Kathleen never knew?

Cass: No. No. And then one night, I saw in my rearview mirror that she was following me in her car. I was alone, so I decided to lose her. I drove faster and faster. There was a curve, and she lost control. I didn't even realize what had happened until I read about it in the papers the next morning.

Nicole: She was dead?

Cass: Yeah. Rex knew about his wife's obsession with me right from the very beginning. He blamed me for her death. He vowed revenge. And his revenge was Kathleen. He took her away from me. Please, Nicole, you have to believe me. The murderer is Rex, not me. Quiet.

Nicole: I -- I --

Cass: Shh, shh, shh. There may be somebody in the apartment. Here, stand back. I'm going to open the door and check. Stay there. Nicole!
