Meg: Mike has found something in the garden. I know he has.
Paul: How? Nobody could see anything in broad daylight. How's Mike gonna find something in the dark?
Meg: He already found a piece of Sofie's jewelry.
Paul: If Mike had found something else, he would have stormed in here. You know him. He would have demanded an explanation.
Meg: You know, I can't believe we're even talking about this. There is somebody buried under the roses of the garden.
Paul: You don't need to worry.
Meg: How can you even say that?
Paul: Look where we are. We're together. We're married. Do you have any idea how long I've waited to call you my wife? You're my wife. And no matter how we got here, this is where I've always wanted to be with you.
Meg: Me, too. We're not here. It's not that easy. I mean, look what happened to Sofie.
Paul: Yeah, us living unhappily ever after isn't gonna bring Sofie back, and I'm not willing to miss a moment with you because of some misguided sense of guilt. I didn't do anything. You didn't do anything, to hurt Sofie.
Meg: Yeah, I know that. And you know that. But if Mike or somebody or somebody else comes back --
Paul: Meg, a few hours ago, I swore, I promised to love and cherish you until I die. That's a promise I'll keep. Whatever happens, you and I will go through this together.
Jack: Hey, Guys. Mike, what are you doing here so late?
Mike: I need to report a murder.
Jack: Who's the victim?
Mike: Sofie Duran, I think.
Jack: What do you mean, you think, Mike? How long ago did this happen?
Mike: I'm not sure.
Jack: But you have reason to believe that she's been killed.
Mike: That I am sure of.
Jack: Okay, all right. Why don't we have a seat and you can start from the beginning, and let me know what you know.
Meg: You know, you really didn't have to bother the chef.
Paul: The chef? I made this with my own two hands.
Meg: You did, really?
Paul: Oh, yeah. Yeah. I know you already know this, but I'm a man of many talents.
Meg: Yeah, but is cooking one of them?
Paul: Well, you tell me.
Meg: Mmm! Wow, this is really good.
Paul: Come on, you don't have to act so surprised.
Meg: No, this is really, really good. How come you've never cooked for me before?
Paul: Well, I had to save something for after we were married.
Meg: Hmm, well, I am just glad one of us can cook. You're gonna spoil me.
Paul: Yeah, well, don't get used to sitting here with your feet up, eating bonbons. I need help. I need for you to trim the herb garden. What?
Meg: I'm sorry. You just said garden, and I started thinking about the roses.
Paul: I'll get you something --

Meg: Yeah. My husband made me a beautiful meal, and I can't let it go to waste, now can I?
Mike: She has to be dead, Jack.
Jack: And you're positive that Sofie didn't leave town of her own free will.
Mike: Why would she do that? She was in love with Paul Ryan and having his baby.
Paul: She was pregnant?
Mike: Yeah, and Paul wanted nothing to do with her.
Jack: Okay, so maybe she left town because she didn't want to share her child. Listen, Mike, I know that you and Sofie were close.
Jack: But you have to realize she made herself a few enemies here. Maybe Oakdale got a little too uncomfortable for her and she decided to cut her losses.
Mike: No, I don't believe that.
Jack: Okay, putting aside what you may or may not believe, you can't have a murder without a body. Hell, I don't even have any reason to declare her a missing person.
Mike: Not yet. But I think I know where you can find her. Her body.
Mike: Underneath Paul Ryanís rose bushes.
Emily: Please, let's talk about this.
Margo: No, I'm done talking. Talking doesn't work with you because you don't listen.
Emily: I'm listening now, I swear.
Margo: Really? Because I tell you to stay away from my family, I tell you to stay away from my son, and yet here you are.
Emily: I can explain. I can --
Margo: Shut up! It's not enough that you sleep with my husband. You have to put your filthy hands on my son. On my son. And you really thought you'd get away with it.
Emily: Please let me explain. I know this looks terrible. I know what it looks like, but I can explain. Whatever you want. Whatever you want me to do, I will make it right. I will do whatever you say, whatever you want. Please put the gun down, Margo.
Margo: You think that we'll just sit down and chat about this like a couple of buddies? No. I don't negotiate with people who break into my home and threaten my family.
Emily: No, no, no, Casey invited me here. I swear. Margo, you know me. I'm not a threat to you!
Margo: No, I don't know that. I don't know anything. All I know is I came home, it was dark, I heard something, I thought it was an intruder, so I drew my gun, and I fired.
Emily: You cannot possibly think you're gonna get away with this.

Emily: I never should have come here.

Margo: You don't know what she is, Casey, and you don't want to know.
Casey: Mom, this is crazy! Put the gun down, please.
Margo: Does that make you feel better? Hiding behind a boy?

Emily: Casey, stop it. Stop it, all right, stop it. You're only making things worse. She's crazy enough to shoot us both.
Margo: I'm not crazy, Emily, and I'm a trained marksman.
Tom: What the hell is going on in here?
Jack: Do you know that Sofie's body is at Fairwinds, or is this more speculation on your part?
Mike: I haven't actually seen the body, if that's what you're asking.
Jack: That's exactly what I'm asking. And since you haven't actually seen anything, there's nothing for me to go on.
Mike: That is why you need to dig up the garden, because that is where the evidence is.
Jack: It's not that easy, Mike. There are these things called laws that prevent me from walking onto private property and digging it up in the middle of the night.
Mike: So get a warrant.
Jack: I can't do that without probable cause.
Mike: You have cause.
Jack: I can't take your suspicion to a judge, Mike.
Mike: Fine. You can take this.
Jack: And what is this?
Mike: It's part of a piece of jewelry that Sofie designed. I found it at Fairwinds, and it proves that she was there.
Jack: And this is it. This is all that you got.
Mike: It is until you dig up the rose bushes and you find her body.
Jack: Mike, she could have dropped this at any time at Fairwinds. You have no idea of knowing when she dropped this.
Mike: What if she dropped it when Paul Ryan killed her?
Jack: I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Mike. But I need more to go on than a piece of jewelry and your gut feeling.
Mike: Something happened to Sofie, and Paul Ryan knows what it is.
Jack: And I assume that you asked him what he knows.
Mike: Obviously, but he didn't give me anything.
Jack: Maybe you didn't ask him the right questions.
Paul: Mrs. Ryan.
Meg: Mr. Ryan.
Paul: I think maybe we should go upstairs.
Meg: Well, far be it for me to disagree with you.
Maid: Sorry to bother you, Mr. and Mrs. Ryan, but they insisted.
Paul: I thought Meg made it clear to you that you're not welcome, Mike.
Jack: I hope that doesn't apply to me, too.
Meg: Jack, what are you doing here?
Jack: I just came by to ask a few questions. I hope you don't mind.
Margo: Tom, go back outside.
Tom: Not until somebody tells me what the hell's going on!
Margo: I'm protecting our son from a serious threat. That's what's going on.
Casey: Emily is not a threat, okay? I asked her to come here.
Tom: Fine. We're all gonna take a step back, okay, and I want you to put that gun down, Margo.
Margo: You don't even know what she's done, Tom.
Tom: Whatever she's done is not worth this.
Margo: It's too late.
Tom: It's only too late if you decide to use that, so listen, Honey, I'm gonna take this gun and I'm gonna put it away. Let it go. Let it go. Okay. Good girl. So what on God's earth is going on here?
Emily: Your wife has completely lost her mind. That's what's going on.
Casey: You guys were going out of town together for your anniversary, and I thought you weren't gonna be back until --
Tom: I didn't get an answer to my question! What is going on here, and why are you two in my house?
Margo: Isn't it obvious what's going on here? I want that woman out of my house and away from my son.
Emily: I'm going. Let me just go get --
Margo: Get out!
Casey: If she's going, I'm going, too.
Paul: So, you came by to chat, Jack, or is this the kind of conversation where I should call a lawyer?
Jack: Oh, I think we can clear this up without getting attorneys involved, Paul.
Paul: I didn't think there was anything we needed to clear up.
Jack: Well, you see, Mike came by the station this evening. Seems that Sofie Duran has disappeared.
Paul: Yeah, we heard. Not sure what we can do to help you.
Meg: And I'm sure Mike already told you that he asked us about Sofie.
Jack: Yes, he has. But, see, I think he might have been a little harsh in the way he asked you.
Paul: So you just came by to play good cop, so to speak.
Jack: I always like to play good cop whenever I can, Paul. That's why I thought I'd drop by, maybe lighten the tone a bit, and in return, you could give us Sofie's forwarding address, some way to get in touch with her so we can ease his mind.
Paul: I wish I could, but I canít. Is that all?
Mike: I told you.
Jack: So you have no idea where Sofie could be?
Paul: Should I?
Jack: Well, considering she's carrying your baby, yeah. I figured that might be good enough reason to stay in touch with her.
Paul: You may not remember this, but Sofie's a big liar.
Meg: Especially about Paul.
Mike: She didn't lie about being pregnant.
Meg: And how do you know that, Mike? I mean, Sofie has fooled you in the past.
Paul: This is so stupid. Can't you see what this is really all about?
Jack: Enlighten me, please.
Paul: Well, Mike's doing what he always does. He's trying to make trouble for me.
Jack: So this is all in Mike's head. Is that what you're saying?
Paul: He's jealous. He's upset that Meg and I love each other. We got married.
Jack: You got married. You're married. Since when?
Meg: This afternoon.
Jack: And you didn't tell the family, Meg? What is going on with you?
Meg: Paul and I are in love, Jack. And we looked into each other's eyes this morning and we knew it was time. We've waited long enough.
Jack: This was just a romantic impulse, then?
Meg: Yes, okay, it was a little impulsive. And I'm sorry that the whole family couldn't be there to watch the ceremony. But we're gonna have a big party later, and everybody can celebrate with us.
Jack: Good luck explaining that to Emma.
Meg: Mom will understand.
Jack: No, I don't think she will. She's gonna wonder why the rush.
Meg: You know, it might seem rushed to everybody else, but no the bride and groom. We've waited a long time for this.
Mike: You afraid of what she might be saying to him?
Paul: She's telling him how much she loves me, how she's thrilled to be spending the rest of her life with me. I don't say that to try and hurt your feelings.
Mike: You put up a good front, Paul. But I'm not buying it, and neither will Jack. I don't know what kind of hold you have over Meg, but her family will not let you hurt her!
Paul: Does this work for you? Is this how you usually do things, chasing after women that are already in love with other men?
Mike: You mean like the way Sofie was chasing after you? She's not chasing after you any more, is she, Paul? I wonder why that is.
Meg: Maybe because certain members of my family have made it quite clear to me that they disapprove of my decisions.
Jack: So you thought running into marriage would prove them wrong? Meg, come on. This is me you're talking to. There's got to be more to it than that.
Paul: There's nothing more to it than that, Jack. The timing was right for us. It was a decision that we made.
Meg: Paul and I have waited a long time for this. Can you blame us for being eager to get on with our lives? Look I'm sorry if I hurt people's feelings, but we have every right to do this on our own timetable.
Paul: I really hope that you're okay with this, Jack, because I want you and your family to approve. Not just of me, but of our marriage.
Jack: Yeah, we'll have to wait and see about that.
Paul: Okay. If you're done asking questions, my wife and I were thinking about going to bed.
Mike: We're not done.
Jack: There's just one more thing I'd like to ask. Not so much as a question as it is a favor.
Paul: What? What do you want?
Jack: I would love to take a look at your garden. I hope that's not gonna be a problem.
Paul: I'm sorry, Jack. That's just not gonna happen.
Emily: You know what, this is just all a big misunderstanding, so why don't we take a break and talk about this in the morning.
Margo: You keep saying you're gonna go and you don't leave.
Casey: I invited her here. If you're gonna yell at someone, yell at me. Take it out on me. Emily does not deserve to be treated this way.
Margo: Oh, yes, she does. She deserves this and more. And she was so close. She almost got it.
Casey: Damn it, Mom, what is wrong with you?
Emily: Stop it!
Casey: No, no, they need to understand what you mean to me, what we mean to each other. You know, if Emily is not invited here, neither am I.
Tom: How long has this been going on?
Margo: I don't know, but this ends now. Casey, you are not leaving this house with that whore.
Casey: Don't you dare call her that!
Tom: He's right about that. Name-calling's not gonna solve anything.
Margo: I'm not name-calling. And I'm not using it figuratively. That's what Emily is -- a whore.
Casey: Stop it!
Tom: What are you talking about?
Emily: Margo, please don't do this.
Jack: You say you want acceptance from the family, yet you turn down my very simple request. You sure you don't want to rethink your answer?
Paul: Jack, we have a gardener who's very proprietary about the grounds. He doesn't want anybody interfering.
Jack: So you're saying I need your gardener's permission.
Paul: Yeah, and he's out of town. He's on vacation.
Jack: For how long?
Paul: I don't know, a couple weeks. A week, two weeks. But as soon as he's back, you can poke around the garden to your heart's content.
Meg: Well, good night, Jack.
Jack: You know, I'm sorry, Meg. I really don't want to leave without looking in that garden.
Meg: It's our wedding night, for God's sake! Can't it wait?
Jack: Under any other circumstances, I'd say yeah. But I'm beginning to wonder if there's something out he doesn't want me to see.
Paul: I'm beginning to wonder why you barged in here, making all these insinuations.
Mike: Maybe if you didn't act like there was something to hide.
Jack: Paul, we can do this one of two ways. I'd really rather do it the easy way.
Paul: What's the hard way, Jack.
Jack: I get a search warrant and I come back here with a bunch of guys and shovels.
Paul: Why don't you do that?
Meg: Jack, please.
Paul: No, that's okay. Jack and I, we understand each other.
Jack: On that, we agree.
Paul: He's just doing what he's got to do and I'm just doing what I got to do.
Casey: Dad, do not listen to her. Mom is lying.
Tom: About what, Casey? She hasn't said anything yet.
Casey: I mean, she hates Emily so much, she would say anything just to hurt her.
Emily: Please -- please don't say something you might regret.
Margo: You mean something you might regret?
Emily: Please think about this.
Margo: Did you think when you seduced my son?
Casey: Emily did not seduce me!
Margo: Well, call it what you want, but I think when someone knows a lot more than the other person, that's taking advantage. And Emily knows things that she doesn't want anyone else to know. For example, Casey, did you know that your middle-aged girlfriend was a whore and a hooker? What'd you charge, like, $1,000 a trick? Oh, that last summer when Daniel went to Europe, you must have just been raking it in. It's true, Tom. Look at her. She can't deny it. She won't even try to deny it. Look at her.
Emily: It was for a very short and horrible time in my life, and I wish to God it never happened.
Margo: So, Casey, did you -- oh, my God. You knew, and you -- you -- you are not paying her, are you?
Tom: I need you to get dressed. Get out of my house. Stay away from my sons.
Emily: Daniel's my son, too.
Tom: That was an accident of biology. I'm gonna make sure that he doesn't get hurt any more by that accident than he already has been.
Meg: You practically begged Jack to get a search warrant.
Paul: Yeah, well, it was either that or let him start digging up the rose bushes. Gave us some time, don't you agree?
Meg: Time for what?
Paul: Time to move the body.
Meg: No. It was bad enough moving her from Lakeview. You can't do that again, Paul. It's wrong on so many levels.
Paul: Well, if there's a better option, I'm ready to hear it.
Meg: There is. We can tell the truth.
Emily: Tom. You need to know how sorry I am. And you need to know that Daniel was never around --
Tom: You will never see Daniel ever again, so you can do whatever you want, whenever you want.
Emily: Please don't say that.
Tom: Get a lawyer. Get a good one. 'Cause that's the only way we're going to be communicating from now on.
Casey: Emily, wait. I'm going with you.
Tom: No, you're not.
Casey: You can't stop me.
Tom: Stop it.
Casey: Listen, you fixed everything else. I'm going with her. What are you doing?
Casey: Back off!
Margo: Tom, I don't want you going to the hospital again. Please.
Tom: I'm fine. I just wish your brain was working half as well. What were you thinking, getting involved with Emily Stewart?
Casey: Stop talking to me like I'm a child!
Tom: Then stop acting like a child! You think threatening to leave your home, you think that's adult behavior?
Emily: Casey, please, listen to your dad. You belong here with your family.
Casey: Emily, you don't mean that.
Emily: This was all a huge mistake. Let's just pretend it never happened.

Margo: Oh, for once, Emily Stewart does the right thing.
Casey: I can't believe I ever looked up to you two. How can you treat another human being like that?
Margo: Oh, come on, Casey. She had it coming. You're just so blinded by your hormones, you can't see her for what she is.
Casey: Do you think that by watching you humiliate her that I would see things your way?
Tom: If she felt humiliated, she earned it.
Casey: I know Emily better than you ever could. Did you ever take the time to understand her, Dad, or were you just blinded by your hormones?
Tom: Don't -- don't talk to me like that.
Casey: Don't ever tell me what to do again. I know all about what Emily did, and I know she's a different person.
Margo: No, you don't, Casey. You don't know her! You don't know what she's capable of.
Casey: But I do know what you are capable of. And I have so much more respect for her than both of you.
Tom: I'm done!
Casey: Me, too!
Margo: Casey! If you walk out that door, you will not come back here.
Casey: I'm sorry you feel that way, Mom, and I know how much it hurt you when Adam left. But at least you'll know where I'll be -- with Emily.
[Knock on door]
Susan: Emily, are you in there?
Susan: Don't you ever answer your cell? After we talked, I called you back. I think I left you three messages.
Emily: I thought you were on call.
Susan: Oh, no, I got off early. And since it's almost Ali's birthday, and we've all been under so much strain lately, I thought it would be fun if we could have a dinner Saturday night, and I was hoping that you would ask Tom if we could have Daniel for Saturday. I know I would just love to see my little -- Emily, what's wrong?
Meg: But can you honestly say that you didn't leave any clues behind? Not a piece of hair or a piece of fabric? You're not a professional criminal, Paul. Jack does this for a living. It's just a matter of time --
Paul: So we're just supposed to help Jack do his job?
Meg: No, but the longer we wait, the guiltier we look.
Paul: I buried her in the back yard. I'm looking pretty guilty.
Meg: Okay, look, the reason you did that was to protect me. If we just tell Jack that --
Paul: If we -- no, no, hold on a second. You are not getting involved in this.
Meg: Well, it's too late. I'm already involved in this.
Paul: Okay, if we go to the police, even if we do convince them that you and I had nothing to do with Sofie's death, the next in line is my mother, and we're not putting her in the line of fire. We've already agreed on that, unless you're changing your mind.
Meg: No, but --
Paul: My mother cannot handle going to jail. I would confess to killing Sofie myself. I'm not putting her through that.
Meg: You can't confess to a crime you didn't commit. Look, there's got to be another way.
Paul: We don't have time for this. You know what, you got to go now. You got to find my mom before Jack gets back here with a warrant. He's gonna be here any minute.
Meg: I thought we were gonna keep her out of this.
Paul: Yeah, well, its better she hears it from you than reading about it in the City Times. Just go. Do me a favor, please. Get dressed and go find my mom.
Meg: Okay, look, I'll be back by the time Jack gets here.
Paul: No, you don't have to do that. Go, stay with her. I'll be fine.
Meg: I'm not gonna let you do this alone. I'll be back as soon as I can.
Barbara: Meg, what are you doing here?
Meg: I am so sorry. I know it's late. But this is important.
Barbara: What happened? What's wrong?
Meg: Okay, first I need you to sit down.
Barbara: This must be really bad. Is it Paul? Has something happened to Paul?
Meg: Paul might be arrested tonight.
Barbara: For what?
Meg: Covering up a murder.
Barbara: Whose murder has he supposedly covered up?
Meg: Sofie Duranís.
Meg: Paul found Sofie on the floor of her home, and just before she died, she accused me of trying to kill her.
Barbara: But he didn't believe her, did he?
Meg: Well, he didn't know what to believe. He thought that maybe Sofie came after me and I tried to defend myself.
Barbara: But that's not what happened?
Meg: No. But he was afraid for me, and he wanted to protect me, so --
Barbara: He what?
Meg: He buried her at Fairwinds.
Barbara: At Fairwinds?
Meg: In the garden by the roses.
Barbara: Oh, God. Your wedding.
Meg: You didn't know. And Paul and I, we didn't want to get you involved, so we didn't say anything.
Barbara: He must have been terribly desperate to do something like that.
Meg: He thought people would just think that Sofie went out of town, but then Mike started getting a little suspicious, and he went to Jack.
Barbara: Oh, my God.
Meg: And now it's just a matter of time before Jack comes back with a search warrant --
Barbara: And arrests Paul. Yes. No, we can't let that happen. We can't let that happen.
Meg: Okay. Barbara, look. You need to listen to me very carefully right now. Paul wants to confess that he murdered Sofie. And I know he's not guilty, and we can't let him do that.
Barbara: No, no, we canít.
Meg: Good. I was hoping that you would say that. It's like I told Paul, now that everything is coming out, we have no choice but to tell the truth.
Barbara: No, he is not gonna go to prison.
Meg: Okay, good. Good. So all you have to do right now is just tell the police what happened, and I'm sure there's a lot of mitigating circumstances. I mean, Sofie tried to kill you. That will factor in there somewhere. And there's your health.
Barbara: My health?
Meg: Yeah, I'm sure you could get a suspended sentence or probation.
Barbara: What are you talking about?
Meg: Didn't you just agree that Paul shouldn't go to jail trying to protect somebody else?
Barbara: You think that I killed Sofie?
Meg: You didn't?
Barbara: Of course not.
Meg: Okay, wait. You said -- you told us that you made sure that Sofie would never bother us again.
Barbara: Because I scared her out of her wits, not because I killed her!
Meg: Okay, then who did?
Barbara: I don't know, but as long as it wasn't one of us, God help me, I don't really care.
Meg: Okay, then we have to stop Paul, stop him from confessing.
Barbara: Get your bag. Let's go!
Tom: How long did you know?
Margo: For a while now.
Margo: It was at Donovan's murder case. Emily told me in confidence.
Tom: And "In confidence" you thought meant that you wouldn't tell me that my son's mother was a prostitute?
Margo: I made a mistake. I gave Emily Stewart the benefit of the doubt. It turned around to bite me.
Tom: You ever think about what this might do to Daniel?
Margo: Of course I did. That's the first thing I thought of. That's why I took pity on Emily as a mother. I figured, I made a few mistakes in my life, and people have given me a break. Why not give her a break, see if she'll change her life around? Then I thought that you and Daniel never had to know.
Tom: It wasn't a choice.
Margo: I'm sorry.
Tom: She will never be around Daniel again.
Margo: And there is no way I'm letting her have my Casey.
Tom: I'm not sure that's in your power, Margo, or mine.
Margo: Will you stop telling me that I've made mistakes and that I have no power? I'm gonna fight this woman with all the power I have.
Tom: Did you see the way he defended her? That fight might just get bloodier than you want it to be.
Margo: That's not gonna happen. Casey is gonna start thinking with his brain again and Emily will be out of his life.
Tom: Well, even if that happens, you didn't make it very easy for him to come home, did you?
Margo: He'll be back. He'll be back. When have you ever known Emily to keep a man in her life?
Emily: So Tom and Margo came home and found us.
Susan: You and Casey? You and Casey Hughes?
Emily: If you're trying to make me feel worse than I already feel, it's not possible, so don't waste your breath.
Susan: Have you completely lost your mind?
Emily: I don't know. Maybe I have.
Susan: It wasn't enough for you robbing the cradle with Chris Hughes? Casey -- that's like robbing the womb!
Emily: I tried to stop it.
Susan: Well, did you try saying "No" and meaning it?
Emily: He loves me.
Susan: Emily, he's barely old enough to shave. What does he know about love? At best, you're a serious crush, maybe.
Emily: So there's no possible way that he could actually love me?
Susan: Emily, he's a kid. He's all about hormones. He's just doing what all the other guys his age do. But what's your excuse?
Emily: I don't have one.
Susan: So, he told you he loved you, and you couldn't resist?
Emily: I never told him that I loved him back. I kept my emotions under control.
Susan: Oh, bull. If you had any control, you wouldn't have slept with him. When are you gonna learn? Did you even think about what the consequences of this -- I can't even call it an affair. But did you? Did you think about what it's gonna do to your son, if and when he finds out that you've been sleeping with his half-brother?
Emily: Of course I thought about it. It's what worries me the most. Tom's -- he's threatening to keep Daniel away from me now.
Susan: Oh, well, of course he is. What'd you expect him to do, give you a medal for seducing his son? His other son?
Emily: I didn't seduce him. There was no seduction. It was mutual.
Emily: It was mutual. I just never thought anyone would ever know.
Susan: Well, now your big secret is out. Big surprise. Now it's over.
Emily: Casey. What are you doing here?
Casey: I wasn't about to stay with them. I need you.
Susan: You need to leave. Right now! Out. And don't look back.
Jack: I understand that, your honor, and yes, I am sorry to disturb you at this hour.
Mike: She didn't go for it.
Jack: That's the funny thing about Judge Adams. She doesn't like it when people call her in the middle of the night and ask for search warrants, especially when there's no evidence of a crime having been committed.
Mike: Sofie didn't disappear on her own, Jack. I'll bet my life on it.
Jack: Unfortunately, Judge Adams isn't willing to take that bet. There's nothing else we can do.
Mike: Maybe there's nothing else you can do, but I'm not a cop, and I don't have to work by your rules.
Jack: Mike, where are you going?
Mike: Back to Fairwinds. I'll dig up the grounds with my hands if I have to.
Jack: Mike, don't do something that's gonna make me arrest you.
Mike: As long as you wait till after I find proof of what happened to Sofie, I don't care if you arrest me or not.
Jack: Mike. Mike!
[Paul digs up Sofie and puts her in the trunk]
Jack: Paul, you mind if I take a look at your trunk?
Paul: Do I really have a choice?
Jack: No. Excuse me. [Sighs] You have no idea how much I really don't want to do this.
Paul: Well, that makes two of us.
Jack: Paul Ryan, you're under arrest for suspicion of murder. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you can't afford one, one will be appointed to you. Do you understand your rights?
Mike: No, no, Meg, no. You don't want to see this.
Meg: No. Oh, God, no -- well, that's it!
Paul: You get your hands off her!
Mike: Hey, hey, Meg. You all right?
Meg: Yeah, I've seen bodies before. It's just that we all knew her.
Paul: Hey, everything's gonna be all right. You trust me, remember?
Meg: Yeah, I remember.
Barbara: Jack, this isn't what it looks like. This is a misunderstanding, Jack.
Mike: This isn't a misunderstanding. This is a murder.
Paul: Not another word out of you, Mom. Not another word. If you're gonna arrest me, Jack, go ahead. Let's get this over with.
Meg: Jack, come on, please donít.
Jack: As your cousin, I'm gonna tell you this once. Now that you're married to him, you don't have to testify against him, so whatever happens, you keep your mouth shut for both your sakes.
Barbara: Paul, Paul! I'll have a lawyer here by the morning! I promise you're not gonna go to jail for something you didn't do!
Susan: Casey, Casey. You've got to get out of here.
Casey: I just need a minute with Emily, okay?
Susan: You've had way too many minutes with Emily. You need to get out --
Casey: I just need to talk to you!
Emily: No, no, just go. Please, Casey, just go and find a nice girl half my age.
Casey: Don't use my age against me. It has nothing to do with how I feel.
Emily: I'm not going to argue with you about this, okay? The damage is done. We -- we are done. Casey, there's nowhere left for us to go.
Casey: No, I refuse to believe that. No.
Emily: I lied. Baby, I lied to you and to myself. I'm sorry.
Casey: Don't let my parents do this to us.
Emily: There is no us. There's only me and my problems, and you being here is only adding to those problems, so please, I am begging you, just go walk out that door, please.
Casey: Okay, I'll go because you want me to, but -- if we could just get some time alone, please, I would just like to talk to you. That's it.
Susan: No. No, you heard her. Out. Come on. Out. Honey, you did the right thing.
Emily: I know. I know.
Susan: Come here. It's gonna be okay.
Emily: I know.
Susan: It'll be okay.
Emily: I know.
Margo: Casey, Casey, I know it was hard for you -- Casey, you've got to understand!
Tom: Hey. Give him some time. Let him sleep it off. We'll talk about it in the morning.
Margo: All right, all right. In the morning. At least he's back home.
Tom: Where are you going?
Margo: Oh, my God. If Emily Stewart takes my son away from me, I swear, I really will kill her next time.
Emily: I've lost him. I've lost him for good.
Susan: Who are you crying for -- Daniel or Casey?
Meg: Excuse me, where's Paul?
Barbara: I demand to see my son!
Officer: You'll have to wait. Detective Snyderís asking him some questions.
Mike: Meg, you have no idea how sorry I am.
Meg: What makes you think that I care about how you feel? My husband has been arrested for something he didn't do.
Mike: Meg, I know you want to believe that --
Meg: I believe it because it's true, Mike. You think you're helping, but the fact is that you've been wrong about this from the very start. You try and help me, and my husband is arrested. You tried to help Sofie, and look what's happened to her.
Mike: Whoa, are you saying Sofie's death is my fault?
Meg: I don't know whose fault it is. I just know it isn't Paulís.
Mike: Once you've had a chance to think about this, Meg, you'll see that you are better off this way.
Meg: The only thing I do see is that you've been nothing but trouble for me and Paul ever since you came to town, and I wish to hell that you had stayed away.
Jack: Let's say you didn't kill Sofie. Do you know who did? Paul, the last thing I want to do to my cousin Meg is to lock you up, but unless you give me some more information, I won't have a choice.
Paul: I didn't kill her.
Jack: You get one phone call. I suggest you call a good lawyer. Hopefully, you'll have more to say for yourself than "I didn't kill Sofie," or else my cousin's gonna be waiting to celebrate her wedding night for a very long time.
