Paul: What did you just say?
Sofie: You heard me.
Paul: No, I didn't hear you. You can't possibly expect me to believe anything you say.
Sofie: I'm pregnant. We are going to have a baby.
Paul: That's absurd. You're not pregnant.
Sofie: Well, then, explain to me why the stick turned blue.
Paul: Oh, I can explain it, Sofie. That's easy. You're lying.
Barbara: I know you're worried about Paul.
Meg: I'm sure he's fine.
Barbara: I'm sure he's fine, too. I just wish he didn't have to go listen to another sob story from Sofie. I mean, she's already tried every trick in the book. What's left?
Meg: Well, you know what? Whatever it is, it doesn't matter, because Paul and I are engaged, and there is nothing she can say or do to hurt us.
Barbara: Then why did he agree to go see her?
Meg: Well, because unfortunately, that's the only way to deal with Sofie. Ignoring her doesn't work.
Barbara: How do you know? Has anyone tried it?
Meg: Okay, what are you afraid of?
Barbara: I want her out of this building. I don't want her angling for another way to stay here any longer --
Meg: Okay, stop, stop, stop. All this speculation -- it isn't helping.
Barbara: So end it.
Barbara: You're his fiancée, Meg. You have every right to check up on him. So do it. Call him and find out what the hell is going on.
Sofie: I don't understand. I -- I mean, I knew you'd be surprised, but I thought that maybe, once you got used to the idea, you'd be happy.
[Cell phone ringing]
Sofie: Paul, a baby is a blessing. You and I have been blessed. You gonna answer that?
Paul: Will you stop talking to me?!
Sofie: This pregnancy -- it's gonna be good for us.
Paul: No, it's not. It's not good. It's nothing. It's not -- it's -- it's not anything.
Sofie: What do you mean it isn't anything?
Paul: Tests can be altered. Tests -- tests can be wrong.
Sofie: Altered? Paul, I swear to you -- I swear to you, I am pregnant. I didn't fix the test!
Paul: Prove it. Take another one in front of me.
Meg: It, uh, went to voice mail.
Barbara: I don't like it. That's not like Paul. That's not like him to ignore your call.
Meg: He's probably in an elevator or something. Or maybe Sofie has him hog-tied in the bathtub. 'Cause, you know, that's probably what I would do.
Barbara: You know what? I don't think this is very funny. I don't think you should be joking about this.
Meg: Barbara, I'm joking because I'm not worried. I totally trust Paul.
Barbara: And so do I. It's Sofie I don't trust, Meg! She tried to kill me and make you look responsible for it, and I don't think it's inconceivable that she would do something to try to hurt Paul!
Meg: Sofie's too infatuated with Paul. She would never hurt him.
Barbara: She accused him of rape. Now, I don't mean to borrow trouble here, but I don't think we can stand around and be complacent about this!
Meg: Okay. I'll try calling him again.
Barbara: No, no! You go to her room, and you make sure that everything is all right!
Meg: What if it isn't?
Barbara: Then you get Paul away from her for good.
Sofie: I don't have another test. I just bought the one.
Paul: Fine. I'll go get another one.
Sofie: Okay. Paul -- I understand. I do. I understand why you need proof. But -- you know, I'm actually really happy that you're gonna get another test, because I can't wait to see the look on your face the minute you find out this is true.
Paul: Let me be perfectly clear with you, okay? When this is over, no tears, no excuses. I'm done with you. I want you out of my life. I want you gone.
Sofie: Don't you worry. He'll come around.
[Knock on door]
Sofie: Meg, what do you want?
Meg: Where's Paul?
Sofie: He's not here. You called, and he left.
Meg: I don't believe you. Paul?! I guess he went back to Barbara’s room.
Sofie: No, I don't think so.
Meg: So does that mean you know where he went?
Sofie: Good-bye, Meg.
[Knock on door]
Carly: Hi. I just looked for you down at the stables.
Holden: Sink was clogged.
Carly: Fix it?
Holden: Just about. What brings you by?
Carly: I didn't see Lily's car out front.
Holden: Yeah. She went into town. If you want to catch up with her, you should probably call her cell.
Carly: No. Actually, I was hoping we could talk.
Holden: Carly, I'm in the middle of this.
Carly: Holden, we need to talk.
Holden: About what?
Carly: About your trip with Lily.
Holden: Carly --
Carly: You're making a mistake, putting it off. You should go, Holden. You should go now.
Lisa: Well, well, well, my dear. I didn't even see you come in.
Lily: Well, I was trying to be discrete.
Lisa: Why?! You are one of my favorite customers.
Lily: Aw, I bet you say that to everybody.
Lisa: I do not. Only those I happen to adore, and the ones I'm in business with. So, can I help you find something in particular?
Lily: Yes, actually. I am looking for -- how can I put this? Um, something provocative and sexy and preferably in black.
Lisa: Oh, my. It's that kind of day, huh? Are you having a hot, passionate affair that I don't know about?
Lily: Yes, I am, with a very handsome and charming man -- a guy I have been in love with for years. Don't tell Holden.
Lisa: Oh, it's so wonderful to know the two of you are back on track. This is great. And I haven't seen a smile on that lovely face in years, it seems.
Lily: Well, what do you have for the rest of me?
Lisa: Oh, by the time we're through here, Holden won't be able to take his eyes off of you.
Holden: Lily and I have talked about this. It's just not a good time.
Carly: Why not?
Holden: Because I have to close on the sale of a horse. I have this stable hand. He's not comfortable being alone yet if there's an emergency.
Carly: Your cell phone will work in Montana, Holden.
Holden: Look, we're gonna go. We're gonna go once things get sorted out.
Carly: And when will that be?
Holden: I don't know. But Lily is okay with it. She understands.
Carly: Does she? Holden, would you please look at me? This isn't about a new horse. It's not about a new stable hand. And Lily -- she has no idea the real reason you postponed your trip is because --
Holden: Because of what? You seem to know everything. Come on. Tell me.
Carly: You want to hear me say it? You're avoiding this trip with your wife because of us.
Holden: My decision has nothing to do with you and me, all right? This trip -- it just came at a bad time.
Carly: Right after we both admitted that what's happening between us is real?
Holden: According to you, there is no us.
Carly: According to you, you're starting to think about me more than you are your marriage, and that has got to stop.
Holden: Do you really think that this trip with Lily is the answer?
Carly: What I think is that if what happened yesterday is the reason that you're canceling the trip, Holden, that's a mistake.
Holden: Carly, I didn't cancel it. I just put it off. We'll go.
Carly: But you can't tell me when.
Holden: Why do you even care if we go or not?
Carly: Because I don't want to be a factor in you’re not going.
Holden: You're not.
Carly: Do you see how defensive you're being right now?
Holden: Yeah, well, I don't like my motives questioned, all right?
Carly: If that's really what you think I'm doing, I'm sorry. This is your marriage we're talking about, and this -- this trip -- it could be a chance to make things right. Don't put it off. And when you come back, and after you -- you've put some distance between us, maybe whatever it is that we -- we felt won't seem so big and you can focus on Lily and you can concentrate on your life with her. You owe her that. We both owe her that.
Holden: Look, I don't need you to tell me what I owe my wife, okay? Just -- just leave it alone.
Lisa: Isn't this lovely? We have it in a little teddy as well.
Lisa: Just a little shorter. Picture that.
Lisa: Oh, oh, oh. Look at this. Look at this, Lily.
Lisa: A little corset.
Lisa: And it has detachable stockings.
Lisa: Well -- come on, now. Don't be such a prude. If I had your figure, I'd just go parading right outside here in this. Of course, I'd get arrested.
Lily: Oh! Now, listen --
Lily: I'm just trying to rekindle the romance. I'm not trying to burn down the house.
Lisa: Oh. Oh, look at this.
Lisa: What do you think?
Lily: Yeah, that -- let me see. Oh, my goodness!
Lisa: Well, Honey, I'm sorry, but when it comes to romance, I say, "Go big or go home alone."
Carly: Holden, wait. Please don't walk away from me. I think -- I think maybe I owe you an apology.
Carly: Because maybe I'm making myself too important here. And I do tend to do that. So if I'm doing it now, I'm sorry.
Holden: You don't owe me an apology, okay?
Carly: Well, I'm sure at some point, I will. So you can just use this toward that.
Holden: I'll remember that.
Carly: I said what I came to say. I know you'll do the right thing. You don't need me to tell you what's best for you.
Holden: But you're gonna tell me anyway, right?
Carly: Some things need to be said out loud. The worst thing we can do is lie to ourselves.
Holden: I was honest with you, yesterday, in the field, when it was just you and me.
Carly: I know.
Holden: But you didn't want to hear it.
Carly: I made a mistake. I panicked. And then I thought about it, and I thought maybe it would be better if we just got it all out in the open.
Holden: No, no. You were right. You were right to shut it down.
Carly: I was?
Holden: If we were completely honest about what's going on here, if we were to admit that this isn't just two lonely people flirting, where would that get us?
Carly: I don't know.
Holden: Now who's not being honest? You know exactly where we'd end up. Do you want to go there? I don't think you do.
Barbara: Where's Paul? You didn't leave him with Sofie, did you?
Meg: No, I, uh, went to, uh, Sofie's room. He wasn't there.
Barbara: Well, where is he? You don't know?!
Meg: Barbara, you know --
Barbara: Call him! Call him again right now.
[Cell phone rings]
Meg: Hey, yourself! Uh, where are you? I tried calling you.
Paul: Yeah, I saw that. I just saw that. Um, I had a couple things to take care of. Oh, I probably should have told you. I'm sorry.
Meg: Um, so, what did she want?
Paul: Nothing. You know how Sofie is.
Meg: Yeah, and I also know how you are, and you're being incredibly vague right now.
Paul: Let's just say it's nothing for you to get upset about, that's all.
Meg: Is she still leaving?
Paul: Her bags are packed. Um, listen, why don't you, uh, make sure my mom's okay and meet me over at the farm?
Meg: The farm?
Paul: Yeah. And grab us a bottle of champagne, will you? I, uh -- I haven't forgotten that you and I have an engagement to celebrate.
Sofie: Don't need to.
Sofie: Okay. You can wait out here.
Holden: You asked me to be honest, and I am.
Carly: All right, forget it. I think trying to dissect this is probably a big mistake.
Holden: You know what the truth is? It's not gonna make one bit of difference if Lily and I go away. I think we both know that.
Carly: This trip is all she's talked about. She thinks it will be the happy ending that you've both been looking for.
Holden: She said that?
Carly: Of course she did. She trusts me.
Holden: I'm sorry -- sorry that I've put you in the middle of my marriage.
Carly: It's not your fault. You're Lily's husband. I never should have let it go this far. You're looking for a friend, not another complication.
Holden: You're not a complication.
Carly: The truth is, um, that I'm really selfish, and I couldn't resist feeling wanted, and I let the lines blur.
Holden: Well, I think we both crossed the lines.
Carly: Don't say that.
Holden: No, it's true.
Carly: That's why you should go on this trip. Maybe if we don't see each other around every corner --
Holden: When I came back, I'd just want to see more of you. I don't mean to hurt you.
[Cell phone rings]
Carly: Lily, hi.
Lily: Oh, Carly, thank God you answered.
Carly: What's wrong?
Lily: I -- I am in dire need of my best friend.
Carly: For what?
Lily: I'm at Fashions, and I'm trying to do something for Holden. And if I mess it up -- do you think you could come down here?
Carly: Now? Yes. Yes, of course. Anything for you.
Lily: You are a lifesaver. I love you.
[Carly hangs up the phone]
Carly: Maybe we should remind ourselves who we're really hurting here.
Sofie: It's positive, just like the other one. Now do you believe me? We are going to have a baby.
Paul: You're gonna have a baby. That doesn't prove it's mine.
Holden: What are we celebrating?
Meg: Do you really want to know?
Holden: That's new.
Meg: Yes, it is. Okay, I really want you to be happy about this, Holden. I mean it. And I know everything you're gonna say and every argument you're gonna make, and I really don't want to hear it.
Holden: I just don't understand what you're doing with this guy.
Meg: I'm doing what makes me happy. Look, I know you have your issues with Paul and I know why, but this is the guy I want to spend the rest of my life with.
Holden: You're out of your mind.
Meg: Maybe. And maybe if you just stopped and saw him the way I saw him, you would realize how much he's changed.
Holden: Oh, please.
Meg: Okay, what? You don't think people can change?
Holden: People, yes. Paul Ryan, no.
Meg: You're wrong.
Holden: This is what you really want?
Meg: More than anything.
Sofie: Of course! Of course it's your baby, Paul. You -- you remember the night we made love, how -- how intense it was. And we didn't stop for anything -- not even protection.
Paul: You could have been with any number of guys before that, or since.
Sofie: You know I'm not like that. I love you, Paul. You -- you are the only man that I want to be with. And now we're having a baby together. Do you know what that means?! That -- that means that our feelings for each other were so strong that -- that we've created a whole other life.
Paul: You're crazy.
Sofie: I know. I know it's gonna take you some time to adjust, but I want to celebrate, just -- just the two of us.
Paul: Sofie, you have to listen to me --
Sofie: Just the two of us. Now -- okay. I can't drink because of the baby, but I still have this from the night we launched my jewelry line.
Sofie: I'm saving it for a special occasion. This -- here. Make a toast to our future.
Carly: Hi, Lisa.
Lisa: Oh, hi!
Carly: Lily called me. She asked me to meet her here. I'm not too late, am I?
Lisa: No, no, no.
Lisa: Behind door number two.
Carly: Hi. What are you doing in there?
Lily: Are you alone?
Lisa: Oh, yeah. Just us girls.
Lily: There's nobody else in the store?
Lily: I'm gonna come out, and I want your honest opinion. Promise?
Carly: Total honesty. I promise.
Lily: So, what do you think? Is it too much?
Carly: I think you look beautiful.
Lily: Sexy. It's -- its not desperate, right? You think Holden will like it?
Carly: He'd be crazy not to.
Sofie: Go on, open it. I'll get you a glass.
Paul: Sofie, what is the matter with you?! This pregnancy -- it doesn't change anything! You don't have a life with me! You never will!
Sofie: But -- Paul, the night this child was conceived, you wanted me!
Paul: That night was a mistake --
Sofie: You needed me!
Paul: It was a mistake! I wish it never happened! But baby or not, you have no future with me!
Sofie: You're the father of this child.
Paul: Meg -- I'm in love with Meg. I asked her to marry me. A few hours ago, I proposed, and she said yes! I -- are you listening to any of this?
Sofie: Yes. But do you really think that Meg will still want to marry you after she finds out that I'm pregnant with your child? Paul, you have to tell her -- unless you want me to.
Paul: You're not gonna tell Meg about this.
Sofie: She has a right to know.
Paul: I will tell Meg -- me. Not you.
Sofie: Does it really matter how she finds out?
Paul: You stay away from Meg. I'm warning you. Meg and I are together. Nothing's gonna change that.
Sofie: Does your child mean nothing? How can you be so callous?
Paul: Wh -- me?! Don't put this on me, Sofie! You did this! You harassed me, you harassed Meg, not to mention what you did to my mother!
Sofie: I didn't do that!
Paul: You didn't do that?! What, you didn't do that, or I can't prove it?! Yeah, I'm not arguing with you! This is my point -- Sofie, from now on, I do not care what happens to you!
Sofie: You can't ignore me, Paul. You can't ignore me! I'm not some piece of trash now! I am the mother of your child! I am the mother of your child! So you go on, and you marry your precious little Meg! But how can you sleep at night, knowing that you threw your own child out on the street?
Holden: I can't forget how much he's hurt you. And you can tell me that he's changed until you're blue in the face, but Paul Ryan is Paul Ryan.
Meg: And I love him.
Meg: Okay, you know, no champagne for you.
Holden: I don't want champagne! I want to get through to you! But you're like a brick wall when it comes to this guy! You're so sure that you're right!
Meg: Wow. I wonder where I get that from. Has it ever occurred to you that maybe I fight so hard to keep Paul because I need him? That without him, it feels like there's something missing, and I don't want to feel that anymore? And you, being my big brother, would want that same thing for me.
Holden: Mm! Playing the big-brother card, huh?
Meg: Yeah. I thought I'd save that till last.
Holden: You win. You win! I'm not gonna tell you how to live your life.
Holden: Yeah. Sometimes, you just need to listen to your heart, no matter what.
Paul: Okay, here's what I know -- the little stick turned blue. But the little blue stick doesn't mean that the baby is mine.
Sofie: You know, I've been a mother before, Paul, and I loved my baby with all of my heart, but I had to give her up. And do you think after all of that -- after all of that, I would lie about something like this?
Paul: I don't know. You lied about -- your last lie almost put me in prison. So, yeah, I do think you could lie about this, Sofie.
Sofie: I was wondering when you were gonna bring that up. Okay.
Sofie: Okay, so -- so, what happens now? Are you gonna abandon me? Where am I gonna go? How am I going to support myself --?
Paul: I don't know. I gave you a whole bunch of money, Sofie. That money I gave you was not exactly pocket change.
Sofie: Yeah, well, I want to save it for the baby.
Paul: You got an answer for everything, don't you?
Sofie: Who are you calling?
Paul: You shut up. I'm not talking to you, baby or not. Hi, it's Paul.
Lisa: Oh, I, uh -- I'm so glad you called. Uh, I just wanted you to know that, um, Sofie should be headed for the hills at this time.
Paul: Yeah, about that. I know this is gonna sound a little crazy, but I wonder if you could just let her stay.
Lisa: What?! After what you told me that she did to your mother?! How in the world can I possibly let her stay one more night in my hotel?
Paul: Well, as a favor to me? And whatever bill comes up, you can send to me. And please, one other thing -- don't let my mom find out about this.
Lisa: Paul, is everything all right?
Paul: It will be.
Lisa: Yeah, okay. All right. Okay, I'll do this. But this is it. I don't want to be involved in this anymore.
Paul: Well, you have my word. Thank you.
Lisa: Ladies, sorry for the delay. And here you are.
Lily: Thank you.
Lisa: Now, you be sure to let me know how everything goes. Oh, come on, now! Just kidding -- kidding! Go on. Get out of here.
Carly: So, does this recent purchase mean you're gonna reschedule your trip to Montana?
Lily: No. Besides, we don't need to go away to use what's in here.
Carly: Right, but it would go nicely with your romantic getaway, wouldn't it?
Lily: Oh! You are as bad as Lisa. No. No, I would love to go away, but Holden made it clear that now's not a good time, and I don't want to push it.
Carly: Not even a little nudge?
Lily: No. It will happen when the time is right.
Carly: What -- what if it is the right time now?
Lily: Carly, do you know something that I don't know?
Carly: No, no. I'm just thinking that, with the girls at camp, it's easy to get away now. But when they come back and they start gearing up for school, you know, you won't even have -- what is it? Why -- what's wrong?
Lily: I'm curious. Why are you pushing so hard for me and Holden to get away together?
Meg: Since I have, uh, worn you down, can I ask you for one more thing?
Holden: Oh, no. What now?
Meg: Your blessing. Come on! You know you want to. Please.
Holden: All right, all right. You have my blessing.
Meg: Thank you!
Holden: I can't breathe!
Meg: Sorry. I hope you know how much this means to me.
Holden: I just want you to be happy with whoever makes you happy.
Meg: Even if it's Paul?
Holden: My opinion doesn't matter here. Mama's, on the other hand --
Meg: Yeah, I know. That's why I need your help to win her over.
Meg: What, what? Oh, come on! Come on! She's never gonna accept this without you! And I'm not gonna get married without her.
Holden: You know what? I'm not a miracle worker, but I'll talk to her.
[Knock on door]
Meg: Yes, you are. Hey, hey! Perfect timing. Um, there is something I want to tell you.
Paul: Yeah. There's something I want to tell you, too.
Carly: I'm not trying to push you. If you and Holden take this trip to Montana, I think it's great. And if you don't, that's fine, too. The cabin will always be there for you.
Lily: Thank you.
Carly: I just want you to be happy, you and Holden both.
Lily: Well, we're getting there. Really feels like it. When Holden looks at me now, it's like -- it's like we first met and we couldn't get enough of each other.
Carly: That's great.
Lily: Oh, Carly, I am so sorry. I mean, I forget that -- how hard it must be, seeing Holden and me getting together when you and Jack --
Carly: No, no. No, god no.
Lily: Are you sure? Because I feel like a terrible friend.
Carly: You're not. You're a terrific friend.
Lily: You make it easy.
Carly: But since you brought it up, I don't want you to go through the same thing that I went through with Jack, where I thought everything was okay the minute we slept together, you know? It's easy to be misled by that.
Lily: Misled how?
Carly: Jack and I -- we never had a problem falling into bed. But no matter how great it was between us physically, that space was still there. Do you know what I mean?
Lily: Yeah, I do. But Holden and I have never used that part of our relationship to save us. I mean, when I did that, you know what happened. It just made things worse. Lately, it's -- it's Holden who's been initiating our time back together.
Carly: Lily, if you want Holden back, you have to get him back. Not just into your bed, into your life.
Lily: That's what I've been doing.
Carly: Every morning, every day, he needs to recommit to you and not have so much time to over think things.
Lily: What things?
Carly: I don't know. Horse sales, stable hands -- anything that's not as important as your marriage.
Holden: Meg told me about your engagement. Congratulations.
Paul: Thank you.
Holden: Yeah. Here's the thing -- Meg's my sister. I love her. She said that she loves you and that you make her happy. I'm not gonna pretend to like you or that this is what I want for her --
Meg: Holden --
Holden: No, no, no, no, no. This isn't about me. It's about you. As long as you continue to make her happy and don't hurt her, we won't have a problem.
Paul: Okay. I understand.
Holden: Good, good. Because if you do hurt her, my mother -- she's -- she's got that shotgun, you know?
Holden: It's in the closet.
Paul: I understand the shotgun.
Holden: She will use it. Good. Let's hope you don't have to see it ever again.
[Cell phone ringing]
Holden: Excuse me. Hello.
Lily: Hey, it's me. You busy?
Holden: Does threatening Paul, who, by the way, asked Meg to marry him, count?
Lily: I don't even know what to say to that.
Holden: Yeah. I'm right there with you. But no, I'm not busy. What's up?
Lily: Do you think you could swing by the house?
Lily: I'm leaving the Lakeview now, so, say, 20 minutes?
Holden: I'm on my way.
Lily: I'll see you soon. Love you. Where are you going?
Carly: Uh, I'm gonna run.
Lily: Carly, wh --
Carly: Hey, you're doing the right thing. Drinks are on me. Good luck.
[Carly is at home on the couch depressed.]
J.J.: Mom, are you okay?
[Knock on door]
Barbara: Mm. You! Why aren't you packing? I did not invite you in here!
Sofie: Barbara, I had to come. I wanted to see how you were feeling.
Barbara: I'm still alive, no thanks to you. Now, you'd better get out of here before I call security.
Sofie: Security --
Barbara: Security! For all I know, you've come back to finish off the job.
Sofie: No. You don't seriously believe that I had something to do with your getting sick?
Barbara: Please don't play this little coy game with me. I wasn't sick. Someone tried to kill me. And we know who that "Someone" was, Sofie.
Sofie: What, because that's what -- that's what Meg said? Don't you see? She's trying to turn you against me.
Barbara: I don't need Meg to do that. I wrote you off a long time ago, Sweetheart.
Sofie: Paul knows that I would never hurt you.
Barbara: Paul knows exactly who and what you are. So this little doe-eyed act of yours doesn't work, Sofie.
Sofie: Well, I'm sorry you feel that way.
Barbara: I'm sure you are.
Sofie: But you're right. Paul does know exactly who I am, and I'm sure that when he's ready, he'll tell you.
Barbara: What the hell are you talking about?
Meg: You know, I think Holden stole my thunder.
Paul: What does that mean?
Meg: Well, he said everything that I wanted to say.
Paul: He said he didn't like me, and then he said something about a shotgun, which I thought was a little extreme.
Meg: Okay, maybe not everything. But I'm happy, Paul. That's because of you.
Paul: Well, that's a first, isn't it?
Meg: And Holden sees that. And if he sees that --
Paul: What, the rest of your family's gonna see that?
Meg: Yeah. Having Holden on our side -- that's a big deal, you know?
Paul: Well, it's your mom I'm worried about.
Meg: Yeah, well, she'll come around. Nothing's gonna keep me from marrying you.
Paul: Even if your family doesn't approve?
Meg: Okay, look, do I want them to see you the way I do? Do I want them to believe in us as much as I do? Yes. But loving you, marrying you -- that's my choice. I choose you. I love you.
Paul: I love you, too.
Meg: So, is that what you wanted to tell me, or is there something else?
Holden: Hi. Where have you been?
Lily: Shopping. Listen, I wanted to ask you something.
Lily: I'm just curious. Our trip to Montana -- you said you wanted to postpone because you didn't feel that Eddie was up to handling the horses on his own yet, but I was wondering if you would reconsider pushing it up, just so that we could go sooner rather than later.
Lily: I mean, I can understand if you can’t. I just -- I thought I'd ask.
Holden: No, I mean okay. Let's do it. Let's go to Montana.
Holden: Yeah. I think it's what we both need. I think it would be best.
Lily: Wow! I am not complaining, but what -- what made you change your mind?
J.J.: Are you okay?
Carly: I'm fine. I'm just tired. It happens, you know? What about you? What's up, hmm?
J.J.: It can wait.
Carly: No! Sit down. You all right? You feeling all right?
J.J.: Yeah, I'm fine. It's just -- well, um, I'm kind of bored.
Carly: I could give you more chores to do.
J.J.: Oh, no.
Carly: I could assign some extra summer reading for you.
J.J.: No, I'm not that bored. No. It's just that -- well, you know, Parker -- he's got his job. And Sage -- she's off at camp. And, like, my friends are off at camp as well. So, like, if the doctor says its okay, like, can I still go?
Carly: To camp? You want to do that?
J.J.: Yeah, if that's okay.
Carly: Actually, I would prefer it if you would stick around here and mow the lawn. I suppose that you should have some fun this summer. So I will call your doctor, all right? And if he says that it's okay, I'll have you camping out under the stars by tomorrow night. How does that sound?
Carly: I'll even drive you out there myself.
J.J.: You don't have to. If you're too tired, I can --
Carly: I want to. I could use a break and some time for one of my favorite fellas.
Holden: You want to know what made me change my mind? You did.
Holden: You seem surprised.
Lily: A little. I mean, you were so adamant about not leaving Eddie.
Holden: Yeah. Well, I thought about that, and I also thought about, you know, going away with you. It's kind of a no-brainer, right?
Lily: Took you long enough.
Holden: Forgive me.
Lily: I can be persuaded. So, when do you want to leave?
Holden: Well, we have to deliver that quarter horse the day after tomorrow. So why don't we do it the day after that?
Barbara: I asked you a question.
Sofie: And I think it's best if Paul tells you. It's -- it's really his news to share with you.
Barbara: Share what, Sofie?
Sofie: You look tired. I should let you rest.
Barbara: Your concern is so touching.
Sofie: You know, I -- I really wish you wouldn't be so mad at me. Maybe in time, we can --
Barbara: In time what? I'll forgive you, and we can be friends again? Don't hold your breath. The day that you slink out of here will be the happiest day of my life.
Sofie: I wouldn't be so sure of that. But, you know, we really are gonna have to find some way to get along, for Paul's sake. He'd want that.
Barbara: You are so deluded. Now get out of here!
Meg: Okay, I think it's chilled. Or, um, at least it feels cold, which is good enough for me. Here. Open it. Let's toast to our future.
Paul: Um, you know, I think that we really should talk about what happened with Sofie.
Meg: You know, I really don't want to talk about her right now.
Paul: Well, I really do.
Meg: And she has stolen so much of our time. Don't we just deserve this afternoon? This bottle of champagne --
Paul: I think you deserve every happiness in the universe. But --
Meg: You know, I have to tell you, I was very surprised the way that Holden reacted. He finally just got it.
Paul: He got what?
Meg: How much I love you. So, come on. Let's, uh, just focus on that. And whatever happened with Sofie can wait, okay? What?
Paul: It's so nice to see you happy.
Meg: Well, you do that to me.
Paul: I love you. I'd do anything for you.
Meg: Just marry me. Marry me.
Announcer on the next “As the World Turns”
Emily: You are so young.
Casey: Not that young. Come here.
Luke: You deserve to be loved.
Alison: I need to hear the tough questions, like the ones Tom's gonna ask when he whips out that movie I made.
