Gwen: You guessed her password?
Maddie: Wasn't hard. It's Will.
[Gwen and Maddie hide in Jadeís room, Jade walks in with Natalie]
Jade: Natalie, pick whatever book you want. I'll be right there. Hey, I thought I told you to pick out a book. Uh-oh. Somebody's in big trouble. Who's been begging me to let her play games on my computer? Natalie, did you come in here without my permission?
Natalie: No, Jade, I swear.
Jade: Okay, well, then who did?
Natalie: I bet it was Faith.
Jade: Did you see her in here?
Natalie: No, but she plays games on Lukeís computer sometimes.
Jade: All right, well, I'm just going to have a little talk with her. Why don't you go and grab that book and I'll meet you in your room, okay? Faith -- why would she be looking at my documents? She wasn't going online. She wasn't playing games. She was looking for something. Faith? Faith, I need to talk to you.
[Jade leaves the room]
Gwen: Come on.
Maddie: Okay, you watch the door.
Gwen: Are you out of your mind? She'll be right back. We have to get out of here.
Maddie: We still don't have proof that she was the one that --
[Talking over each other]
Gwen: She's going to have proof in two minutes. She's going to have proof that we broke into her room. You do what you want. I'm out of here.
Maddie: Gwen, you really need to calm down.
Gwen: You keep saying that, but things keep getting worse and worse.
Maddie: Things aren't getting worse. Jade didn't see us.
Gwen: Where are the keys?
Maddie: She didn't see us in the room and she didn't know that we were using her computer.
Gwen: Yeah, but she's not stupid, Maddie. She's smart. And if she thinks about it for more than ten minutes, she's going to realize that it was us.
Gwen: Because Faith is going to say that she wasn't on the computer, and she's going to know that it was either you or me.
Maddie: You're being paranoid.
Gwen: Missing bodies tend to have that effect on me.
[Gwen and Jade leave]
Maddie: Even if she thinks it was us, she can't prove anything.
Gwen: Because she doesn't have anything to prove. Didn't you hear her? Don't you get it?
Maddie: No, I don't understand.
Gwen: She was just ticked that Faith and Natalie had gone on her computer, she wasn't nervous that somebody had found something that she was hiding, because she doesn't have anything to hide.
Maddie: Okay, "A Jade has been hiding things all of her life. And "B" who else would move the body and who else would be playing mind games with us and send you the ring?
Gwen: Adam. I don't care what you say. It's the only thing that explains what is going on. Adam is still alive and he's paying us back. Hey, I changed my mind, Maddie, okay? I can't go in there, okay?
Maddie: It's freezing out.
Gwen: I know. You go inside. I'm just going to go home.
Maddie: You can't be alone, you're freaking out.
Gwen: And it's not going to make it any better going in there and seeing Margo. Okay? Especially since I know --
Gwen: Don't you understand that, okay? Just think about it. It's not Jade that's doing this. It's Adam.
Maddie: It can't be. I didn't just hit him over the head, okay? We wrapped him up, and we buried him. Adam is dead.
Gwen: Okay. I'm sorry. I'm so tired.
Maddie: It's okay. Let's go inside.
Gwen: No. No, you go in. I can't. Honestly, I can't go in this house. I'm just going to go home, okay?
Maddie: All right, I'll go with you.
Gwen: No. Honestly, really, right now I just feel like us being together makes us even more crazy. And if I can't be with Will, I think that I should just be alone.
Maddie: Well, maybe you should call him.
Gwen: No. You know how he is. Even if I don't say anything, he's going to know that something's wrong and -- he went down to D.C. for one reason -- to honor his father. And he should be able to do that without worrying about me.
Maddie: I know. But Gwen, I really don't think you should be alone tonight.
Gwen: I already told you, I'm exhausted. I'm just gonna get some sleep. And maybe tomorrow I'll be able to think straight. Okay?
Maddie: All right. But if you need me, please call me, okay? Any time.
Gwen: Okay, I will. Maddie? He really is dead. Do you really believe that?
Maddie: I really believe that. He couldn't have survived what we did to him. No one could.
Gwen: Okay. I have to believe that too.
Maddie: You do.
[Gwen gets out of the car and goes into her house]
Gwen: Just get some sleep and it'll be better in the morning.
Gwen: Will? Will, is that you? [Closes window] I didn't leave that window open. [Tapping] There's no one here. No one can get in. Just go to bed and get some sleep. [Tapping] There's no one here. No one can get in. Just go to bed and get some sleep.
Casey: Who'd you think it was, Hannibal Lecter?
Maddie: No, I was just surprised. I didn't hear you come in.
Casey: Well, I'm sorry I scared you.
Maddie: It's okay. I just -- I wasn't expecting anyone to be home.
Casey: Well, you're in luck, I made popcorn.
Casey: Great? Your enthusiasm's astounding.
Maddie: I'm sorry. I'm just -- I'm really tired and I'm not very hungry right now.
Casey: Mad, no, it's not about the food. I just thought that we could stay in and have a normal night and pretend that we have normal lives.
Maddie: Why do you say that? What, do you think I'm not normal?
Casey: No, chill out. I'm saying that most girls your age don't have to deal with dating an addict.
Maddie: Casey, I'm really sorry.
Casey: Don't be sorry. I get it if you think that I'm not facing up to things.
Maddie: No, it's my fault. [Maddie sighs] It's just this weather and the wind and I'm just --
Casey: Well, that's too bad because I ordered a wind special. Actually, I paid extra for it.
Casey: Yeah, this documentary that's got scenes from all the TV shows and movies that have ripped off the master of suspense himself.
Casey: Your main man. I thought we could watch it together.
Maddie: I'd really like that.
Casey: It's the perfect night for it, right? You can explain all the movies to me and I can pretend like the last couple of months didn't happen.
Maddie: Pretend like the last couple of months didn't happen? I can't think of anything better than that.
[Gwen's name whispered]
Gwen: Okay. He's not out there. He's dead. It's just the wind and Will's going to be back in the morning. And everything's going to be okay. Okay, I just have to get through the night.
[Gwen's name whispered] Okay. Okay, so what do we do? We act like nothing's wrong. Because then we feel like nothing is wrong. Yeah. That's why you're talking to yourself, because nothing is wrong. It's okay. It's okay. For one night only, you can talk to yourself. You have permission. Because it makes you feel better. And he's not out there. Food. Eat some food and watch some TV just like it was any other night. And everything is fine.
[Gwen's name whispered]
Jade: Well, if it wasn't you and it wasn't your sister, I'm kind of stumped about who was in my room. But I'm not going to say another word about it. I'm going to finish braiding your hair, and tomorrow morning, when you wake up, you're going to take out the braids and it's going to be all wavy and glamorous. Okay. All right, go put on your pjs. Give me 30 minutes on my computer and then I'll read that story to you that I promised. Okay? Here. 30 minutes and counting. Give me a kiss, then get out of here. So right after I tell Margo about Gwen and Adam, and Margo says she's going to talk to Gwen, somebody breaks into my computer. Coincidence? I don't think so.
Casey: Which one's your favorite?
Casey: Is it bloody?
Maddie: No, no one dies. Everything turns out okay. He saves her and they get away and it's all fine.
Casey: I like "Psycho." And not just the shower scene and stuff. Actually, you know what I like? I like how he keeps trying to cover stuff up and then it just gets him deeper and deeper into --
Maddie: Isn't the show going to start?
Casey: Yeah. Here we go.
Maddie: Hey, can you do me a favor?
Casey: Yeah, sure.
Maddie: Can we, like, not talk during this? I mean, I'm really glad that we're doing this, but I just don't really feel like talking.
Casey: Yeah, whatever you want.
Casey: Are you all right?
Maddie: Shh, it's starting.
Man: But I don't think you were quite telling me the truth.
Woman: That's not very nice, calling a woman a liar to her face.
Man: Murder isn't nice.
Woman: I don't know what you're talking about. There hasn't been any murder.
Man: No? All of a sudden, Danny McGuire just had a yen for travel?
Woman: I don't know where Danny is, but I do know that no one's found his body.
Woman: Isn't the body important to a murder case? You can't prove someone's killed him because you can't even prove he was killed. Are you hungry? All of a sudden, I'm ravenous.
Man: Still got your appetite, huh? That'll go. Along with being able to sleep.
Woman: My conscience will bother me?
Man: Just like Lady Macbethís conscience got to her.
Woman: Lady Macbeth? Since when do you read Shakespeare?
Man: It's a good story. Even in her sleep, the woman knew there wasn't going to be another day, another hour, another minute, when she wouldn't be wondering, "What if? What if somebody finds Dannyís body? What if there's someone who will never, ever give up looking for him? What about blackmail?" See? It doesn't get easier. It doesn't get better. It gets worse. Your life, as you know it, ended the very second you bashed Dannyís head into that tire iron.
Woman: I didnít.
Man: No. No, that's not quite right. Right then, you had a chance. If you'd come clean, gone to the cops right then. But you didn't do that, did you?
Woman: Stop it, just stop it!
Man: You tried to cover it up, make like it never happened. And now there's no way out. No way at all. You can't claim self defense. You can't claim temporary insanity. Wrapping him up, burying him, hiding the bloody tire iron. That says cold blooded, premeditated murder, with not one single extenuating circumstance. Yeah. That's a big question, isn't it? How did I know that? How do I know exactly what happened?
Woman: Get out! Just get out and leave me alone!
Man: Maybe -- maybe Danny told me.
Woman: What did you say?
Man: You heard me.
Woman: That's insane. Danny couldn't have told you anything, he's dead!
Man: Maybe you didn't hit him quite as hard as you think you did. Maybe he didn't die.
Woman: Stop it!
Man: Maybe you're looking at him right now.
Man: Maybe it's time for you to pay for what you did. Say good night, Gracie.
Casey: Aw, Maddie, no, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
Maddie: I didn't mean to --
Casey: No, no, no, I get it. I shouldn't have made you watch that.
Casey: I -- I can't believe I was so stupid to make you watch a movie about murder when you've just been through the real thing.
[Gwen remembering voice]
Man: Maybe you didn't hit him quite as hard as you think you did. Maybe he didn't die.
Gwen: Shut up! He's dead. Maddie's right. He couldn't be alive. [Cell phone rings] Oh God, it's okay. Calm down. It's going to be Will. It's Will. Hello?
Gwen: No. Don't call Will. He can't do anything, and you'll just keep him up all night.
[Gwen's name whispered]
Maddie: You -- you know?
Casey: Of course I know. I was there when your sister tried to kill you. Kill me.
Maddie: My sister?
Casey: Yeah, and then my bright idea to make things all normal and cozy is by watching a murder mystery. So not only do I need to go to gambler's support groups, I should probably go to idiot support groups too.
Maddie: No, no, it's okay. It was just a stupid movie and it's over now. And I'm okay, so --
Casey: How can you be okay when you knew that Adam tried to hurt Gwen and you didn't tell anybody?
Maddie: Your mom told you about that?
Casey: Most of it. I mean, I guess a lot of it. It just -- it hurts knowing that Adam had that kind of violence in him.
Maddie: Listen Casey, the reason why I didn't say anything to you -- Gwen really didn't want me to.
Casey: I know, but keeping that kind of stuff inside, it eats you up. I ought to know.
Maddie: Well, you don't have to worry about me, I'm fine.
Casey: Maddie, no. Look, the only way you'll be fine is if you don't keep it inside. You know, the last couple of weeks, when you've been the way you've been, I thought it was because of me and all the stuff I've done, but it's not. It's because you're stilling thinking about last summer and you still feel guilty, don't you?
Maddie: Casey, I meant what I said. I really don't want to talk about it.
Casey: Maddie, your sister killed those people, not you. You'd never hurt anybody.
Gwen: Get away from me!
Casey: Maddie, you always do what's right. You're the best person I know. Hey, do you hear me? You didn't do anything wrong.
Maddie: Stop saying that, okay? Just stop!
Gwen: Maddie, you don't hear that?
Maddie: Hear what?
Gwen: It's his heart!
Maddie: Gwen, just keep shoveling.
Gwen: Maddie, you can't hear that?
Maddie: It's your imagination. We don't have time for this! We have to get out of here.
Gwen: No. No, I have to know for sure.
[Gwen's name whispered]
Adam: Surprised to see me?
Gwen: It was that movie. It was that horrible movie.
Gwen/Will: Hey, it's us. Leave a message at the beep. We'll get back to you.
Will: Gwen, you there? I guess maybe you're still with Maddie or something.
Gwen: Will? Will, it's me. I'm here.
Will: You okay? You sound like you're out of breath.
Gwen: Yeah, I'm fine.
Will: Well, now I know you're lying, so I shouldn't have left you alone.
Gwen: No, it's okay.
Will: No it's not. It's not okay. Not after what you told me about Adam.
Gwen: Will, no, no, no. Don't worry about me, please.
Will: Yeah, but you're upset. I can tell. You're thinking about him, aren't you? About what he did to you?
Gwen: No. No, it's just I did something really stupid.
Gwen: I'm just scared without you here and I thought it'd be a good idea to watch a documentary about horror movies.
Gwen: Yeah, not.
Will: I'm sorry. I wish I was there.
Gwen: Me too. Me too.
Will: You sure you're okay?
Gwen: Yeah, I am now.
Will: You think maybe you should give Maddie a call?
Gwen: No, honestly, really, I don't -- I don't want to talk about me. How are you? I mean, how was the service? Did you get through it okay?
Will: Yeah, I think it did my mom a lot of good.
Gwen: And what about you?
Will: It was kind of weird. I kept thinking about Adam. I kept thinking how glad I am that my dad didn't know what he was really like.
Gwen: Will, I'm really sorry.
Will: Why? You didn't do anything.
Gwen: No, I shouldn't have told you about Adam. I should've gone with you.
Will: Well, I shouldn't have left you home alone. I'm the one who's sorry. Listen, why don't we just stop apologizing.
Gwen: Okay. When are you going to come home?
Will: Gwen, you there?
Will: Gwen, can you hear me?
Gwen: Will, I'm right here.
Will: Hey, that was weird.
Gwen: What happened?
Will: You just, you sort of started to fade out.
Gwen: Well, I could hear you.
Will: No, I thought I heard something on the line.
Gwen: Heard what?
Will: Is somebody there? Is somebody listening in?
Gwen: Why did you say that? What did you hear? [Gwenís name whispered] Will? Will?
Casey: I keep trying to help, but I'm making things worse, huh?
Maddie: No, it's me. I guess I just don't really like you telling me how great I am, like I've never done anything wrong, because I --
Casey: Are you kidding? You've had more stuff happen to you and you've handled it better than anyone.
Maddie: Okay, please, Casey. I know that you're supposedly doing this for me, but tonight, could we please just not talk about the bad things?
Casey: But what if I think that we should talk about them?
Casey: Maddie, I've been walking around in this ego haze where I've been thinking that it's all about me and my problems, but I've let you down and you've never called me out on it.
Maddie: No, it's not you.
Casey: It's not me? Look at what I've done, all right? Adam's no saint, I know that. But if I hadn't stole those bonds, he would have never set Will up. Heíd still be here and my mom wouldn't be dying inside and you wouldn't be holding secrets inside that are obviously tearing you apart.
Maddie: You can't blame yourself because of Adam, okay? You aren't the reason why he's gone!
Casey: You say it like you know of some other reason. Do you?
Maddie: No. No, of course not. I just know that it wasn't you.
Casey: Mad, I got to ask you a favor here. And I know that I don't really even have the right.
Casey: I think that -- no, I mean I know that -- it's really important for me not to lie to myself right now. And then I face the things that I've done. And it doesn't help that you keep trying to let me off the hook. I know that you're just trying to protect me, but I don't want to hide anything. More than anything, I want us to be honest with each other about everything.
Maddie: I want that too.
Gwen: Will? Will, is that you? [Gwen's name whispered] Stop doing that! Stop calling me! No! Okay, okay, stop doing this to yourself. Just calm down. Just calm down. [Gwen screams] No, damn it, no! Adam! Adam! Come on. Come on out, you coward! You want me, here I am!
[Car trying to start]
Gwen: Come on, come on, come on, come on.
[Gwen screams] No, no, no, no! No, no, no!
Casey: You must feel pretty alone right now, huh? Because ever since I got arrested, I've had enough of my own stuff going on. And after all the lies I told you, you probably wouldn't trust me anyways.
Maddie: It's not that.
Casey: Well, everyone that you normally lean on, I mean, they're overloaded with their own stuff right now. I mean, take my mom. She's not the same, is she?
Maddie: How could she be?
Casey: You worry about her too, don't you, just like Dad and I?
Maddie: I guess.
Casey: It's true. I see you, when everyone's talking about Adam, I see how you look over to see how she's doing. I mean, you're like a member of the family.
Maddie: Casey, donít. Please.
Casey: Well, no one other than my dad, me and you knows what this is doing to her. Can I tell you something? You can't tell anyone, though. I think that it'd be easier if my mom just thought that Adam was dead. I mean, I think it'd be a lot better for her than what she's going through now.
Maddie: You really think that?
Casey: When I was in high school, it was okay if I was late, but just if I called. But if I didn't, she would hit the roof. And she'd be sitting right there at the kitchen table glaring at her coffee cup. And I'd come in the door and she'd just blow up. She'd say, "You know what I do. You know what my job is. When I don't know where you are, all I do is see you lying dead in a ditch somewhere." [Maddie sobbing] So my mom, she spends most of her days seeing Adam dead in a ditch somewhere.
Maddie: I need air.
Casey: We'll go for a walk.
Maddie: No, no, no, no. Please. I need to be alone, okay?
Casey: Maddie? Maddie?
Maddie: Please, I need to be alone.
Casey: I'm sorry, I didn't -- such an idiot.
Maddie: Gwen, just tell me what happened.
Gwen: I can't tell you. You have to see. You have to tell me if it's for real.
Maddie: Gwen -- I didn't know I could hurt so many people so much.
Gwen: I know.
Maddie: Casey's right. Margo not knowing is killing her. We have to tell her, Gwen.
Gwen: And what are we supposed to say to her? The truth? That her son is dead? We can't do that, Maddie. You're the one who's been saying that to me from the beginning.
Maddie: Well, I was wrong. We need to go in there and I'm going to say that I did it. I'm not going to mention you --
Gwen: We can't tell her that he's dead, Maddie, if he isn't dead!
Maddie: I told you, what we did to him, he couldn't survive.
Gwen: I saw him!
Maddie: No you didnít.
Gwen: Yes I did! He's playing games with us, okay? He's going to torture us.
Maddie: Gwen, that's crazy.
Gwen: He's crazy, and he's trying to make me crazy too!
Maddie: We have to tell somebody!
Gwen: What are we going to tell them, Maddie? That he's calling me on the phone? That he's leaving bloody branches in my bed?
Maddie: Gwen, watch out!
Gwen: Oh, no, no, no. What are we going to do now?
Maddie: Gwen, stop, Gwen. Come on, stop it. You need to keep it together. Stop. Keep it together for me. Please, okay? Until we get to your house and I see what happened.
Maddie: And then we'll decide what we have to do.
Officer: You passed the breathalyzer, but you were driving erratically.
Gwen: No, I know.
Maddie: It was my fault, Officer.
Officer: You were driving?
Maddie: No, no, but see, I'm not feeling well -- I think it was something that I ate -- and Gwen wanted me to get home before I got sick in her car, so -- but I'm better now. While you guys are talking.
Officer: Fine. I get the picture.
Maddie: See, I live with the Hughes family, and Margo has been really upset and worried recently, so I said that I would sleep at Gwen's house so she wouldn't have to worry about me too. I'm really sorry.
Officer: You live with Lieutenant Hughes?
Maddie: Yeah, that's right. And everybody's really worried about Adam. So that's probably why I got sick. I have things I --
Officer: Okay, I'm letting you go with a warning.
Gwen: Thank you very much. How did you come up with that stuff on such short notice?
Maddie: I know. After everything that's happened to us, this sounds really lame, but I don't want anything bad to happen to you.
Gwen: I think it already has. He was right here, Maddie.
Maddie: I just want to make sure that the cop didn't follow us.
Gwen: No, he turned off on sycamore. Oh, no, no, no, no. I dropped the bat inside. What if he's still in there?
Maddie: Wait a minute. Okay.
Gwen: Adam? No. No, no, no. He cleaned it up.
Maddie: Check the bed.
Gwen: No. The branch, Maddie! It was right there. I swear to God!
Maddie: And you said there was blood on it?
Gwen: Yes, it was the same one that you hit him with. The same one from that night. I saw it, Maddie.
Maddie: Well, then, what happened to it, Gwen?
Gwen: I don't know. He took it away.
Maddie: Gwen, there's no blood on the sheets.
Gwen: It was right there, damn it, Maddie! Don't you see, this is what he wanted? He wanted me to leave so he could clean it up and make it look like I'm losing my mind.
Maddie: Gwen, stop. You are not losing your mind, okay?
Maddie: I think that, maybe --
Gwen: What? What do you think, Maddie?
Maddie: That night that I hit Adam, do you remember what I said to you about how it reminded me about what happened with Lewis?
Maddie: I saw that night that you were scared and I could tell that Adam liked that you were scared, and the same thing with Lewis. Guys like that like to see women scared, so if Adam is alive --
Gwen: You really think he is?
Maddie: I think this is exactly what he would do.
Jade: And when she went to sleep that night, she only had sweet dreams. And so will you. Good night. What's wrong, Natalie?
Natalie: Can I sleep with you tonight?
Jade: Why? Are you scared of the wind? Yeah, why not. I can use the company. It's been kind of a crazy night.
Will: So you think the storm cut out the phone service? Are there any other lines out in Oakdale? Okay, thank you. That still doesn't explain why her cell isn't on. Hey, Mom, it's me. I'm sorry, did I wake you up? Yeah, I just -- I had to let you know. I got to get back to Oakdale as soon as possible.
Casey: Maddie? Maddie, where are you? Maddie, when you get this, could you call me back? You're kind of freaking me out here. On a night like this, you just take off? What's going on? What is it you can't tell me?
Gwen: So you really do believe me?
Maddie: I'm still not sure if it's Adam, but somebody sent that ring and somebody moved the body.
Gwen: And you heard Jade. She wasn't planning on doing anything tonight except reading Natalie a bedtime story.
Gwen: So if it wasn't Jade, then it was Adam. And Maddie, I swear I saw him!
Maddie: Listen, I'm not saying that I don't believe you, but we are so exhausted and terrified that I think we really need to be careful.
Gwen: No, Maddie! I'm tired of being careful.
Maddie: I know you are.
Gwen: Do you? Because what if I spend the rest of my life like this?
Maddie: Gwen, you're not going to spend the rest --
Gwen: No, you're right. Because one way or another, I'm putting an end to this. I'm not spending another night like this.
Maddie: Gwen? Gwen?
Maddie: Gwen --
Gwen: Hey, Adam! It's your big night. We're both here. You hit the jackpot! Come on, show your stupid bloody face! Be a man for once, come on! Yes, Adam! No, I don't know how much more I can do this, Maddie!
Maddie: Come on, shh. Gwen, its okay. It's okay. Come on.
Gwen: If you think that I'm losing my mind, I would rather that you just tell me instead of humor me.
Maddie: I don't think that you're losing your mind. I don't think that there's anything wrong with your mind. I do think that this is wrong that you're going through this. I wish it was me. It should be me.
Gwen: Maybe this is just like a really horrible dream and I'll wake up tomorrow and Will will be here and everything will be fine.
Maddie: Okay, then you should go to bed. I'm going to stay over and sleep on the couch and you can get some sleep.
Gwen: No, I canít. I already tried.
Maddie: Yeah, but you were alone and I'm here now.
Gwen: You know what? I'll tell you one thing. I never realized how tough you really were.
Maddie: It's not that I'm tough, it's -- I'm just really tired of being a victim.
Gwen: I hear that. I unplugged the phone.
Maddie: I can see why.
Gwen: I need to re-plug it. Hey, do you want to call Casey?
Maddie: No. I can lie to the cops and strangers, but I hate lying to him.
Gwen: Yeah, I understand that too. [Phone rings] I'll get it. It's Will. No, no, it's Will. I'll get it. Will? Who is this? Damn it, talk to me. Jade? Is this you? Jade?
Adam: It's Adam. Meet me in the woods. You know where.
Announcer: Next week on "As the World Turns" --
Brad: I'm your boy wonder, you know, and if you're going to fire anybody, I think it should be Katie.
Emily: Fine, I admit it. I'm a prostitute.
Dusty: Try whore.
Jade: Would you two please shut the hell up?
