Barbara: Paul --
Paul: What -- what happened?
Barbara: Honey, you were right.
Paul: Why can't I move?
Barbara: You don't remember? They sedated you.
Paul: Oh, no.
Barbara: Meg and Bob thought you were delusional, but you were -- they were wrong.
Barbara: I believed in you, and now there is proof. There's horrible proof.
Paul: What happened?
Barbara: You were right. The blood drive -- there was a man there with a gun. And I tried to call for help, but he heard me. He threatened to kill me.
Paul: What happened to Meg?
Barbara: I don't know. He -- he released the rest of us.
Paul: But not her?
Barbara: Why do you even care about her? Look what she's done to you.
Paul: The blood. There's gonna be blood.
Casey: Take these, cash them and then deposit the money in your parents' account.
Elwood: I keep telling you, these are weird.
Casey: And I'm telling you, they're like money.
Elwood: Yeah, but they're not money. What? It's what I've got, all right? Seriously not gonna tell me where the hell you got these bonds?
[Mike reading Simon’s letter]
“Hey! Work things out. He's a good guy. Solid, someone you can rely on. Just don't give up on him. You two belong together. Anyway, I wish you well. As for me, I'm fine. A constant screw-up, but I'm fine. And I'm happy, and I know that you will be, too. Just give it a little time, he'll come around. How could he resist you?" "Take care, Simon."
Answering machine: Leave a message, and we'll get back to you.
Katie: Mike? Mike, are you there? He's not picking up. When did he leave?
Margo: He should be there by now.
Katie: All right, I'm going to go check on him.
Margo: All right, well, hurry back.
Katie: Mike Kasnoff, willingly talking in public? That's love.
Katie: See you soon.
Margo: Okay, bye-bye. How's Danny doing?
Tom: Oh, he went upstairs to watch a video. Where's Katie going? For that matter, where's everybody else? Aren't there supposed to be people at a party?
Margo: Go figure.
Tom: You know, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if we happened to wind up here alone. I mean, it has been a while.
Margo: My God, Tom. You were just at death's door. I mean, this is what a near-death experience leads you to?
Tom: Well, isn't that what a near-death experience is all about, to open your eyes to the beauty of life?
Margo: Well -- hello?
Lisa: Margo, it's me. I'm at Crash.
Margo: Lisa, are you all right?
Lisa: Yeah. Someone -- someone has broken in here, and they've just torn the place apart.
Lisa: And worse than that, there's $10,000 worth of registered bonds that are missing.
Margo: Registered bonds? What are those doing there?
Lisa: Well, no, no, they're not mine, you see. They were Will’s.
Casey: I told you, these bonds are as good as cash.
Elwood: That's not what I asked you.
Casey: Well, that's all you need to know. Look, I got to get going back to this party at my parents' house. And, could you pay off that dweeb on the third floor that's been bugging me?
Elwood: You know, you borrow money from people, you might want to try remembering their names.
Casey: I don't have time for this.
Elwood: You know, hey, I only asked you about them because you were so freaked out when you stole money from your mom.
Casey: Hey, keep it down.
Elwood: Hey, I just wanted to make sure they were legit, all right?
Elwood: Hey! You with me? Listen, I just don't want this to start any more trouble.
Casey: No, it's over.
Elwood: All right. You know, I'm just trying to be a good friend.
Casey: Well, then, get going.
Elwood: Right, even though you're the one who ran up $5,000 on my poker account?
Casey: Whoa, whoa, wait. I was going to win it back, and I would have, if you hadn't taken the computer back.
Elwood: Yeah, right. The only reason you're in debt is because you can't gamble anymore.
Casey: Just forget about it, all right? We're all settled up. Just pay that guy back, and then that's the end of it.
Elwood: Yeah, it's me. Elwood. Yeah. Listen, meet me outside Java, all right? I got something for you. It's from Casey.
Will: The bonds were stolen?
Will: They're my bonds.
Margo: Well, that's what Lisa said. She said someone broke in and trashed the place.
Gwen: We were just there. Everything was fine.
Will: How could this happen? Who did this?
Margo: We'll find out.
Will: How'd they break into the safe?
Gwen: And what about the damage to the club?
Margo: I don't know! I don't know! She was too upset to give me any details.
Tom: But she's okay? Nothing happened to her?
Margo: Yeah, she's fine. She came in after they'd all gone.
Gwen: I mean, whoever did it must have been there in, what -- the last hour or two? I mean, we were literally just there. I left to come here, and Will stayed to put the alarm on.
Margo: Where the hell have you been?
Adam: What, so now I'm 12?
Margo: Look, I really don't need this attitude right now.
Adam: I had a business call to L.A.
Tom: What are you doing?
Margo: I'm calling it in.
Tom: You're not going to handle this yourself?
Margo: Look, I don't want to leave your party.
Tom: You might want to rethink that. Or you're going to be the one who tells my mom you were too busy when her club got robbed to handle it personally.
Margo: All right. You've got a point.
Tom: Besides, I know you. It's killing you not to check this out yourself.
Margo: Are you sure you don't mind?
Tom: I don't mind. Go. Make it up to me later.
Margo: Man, you got a one-track mind.
Maddie: Casey's going to flip out. That club is everything to him.
Adam: Yeah, and those bonds are our last chance to finish the demo.
Tom: Oh, I wouldn't give up so soon if I was you guys. Your mom will find the guy who did this.
Maddie: Or girl.
Margo: Maddie --
Maddie: It's just --
Margo: Just what?
Maddie: Well, your money here was stolen, and now the bonds at Crash. And I'm really sorry, Adam, but Jade was in both places around the same time that the money went missing. That's all I'm saying --
Adam: All right, come on. So were about 20 other people.
Margo: Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We get all the details before we make accusations. Will, I need you to come with me. Answer some questions. Come on.
Will: Yeah, sure.
Adam: I'm going, too. We're all in this together.
Gwen: We were so close.
Adam: Yeah. It's okay.
Jack: I need you to take this to the station, register it, and start your report, okay?
Cop #1: Hey, it was a good shoot.
Jack: Yeah. Well, you and I both know that's not for us to decide. Thanks for the backup.
Cop #1: Yes, Sir.
Craig: You sure you're all right?
Meg: Yeah, thanks to you. I'm fine.
Craig: Oh --
Meg: You know, to say I owe you is an understatement.
Craig: Oh, I don't know. To be honest, I think it was Jack that saved the day.
Meg: You made the first move, Craig. You stopped that man from shooting me.
Craig: Yeah, only temporarily. Truth is, is that when we hit the floor, I wasn't exactly in control.
Meg: You're really something, you know that? You're the most arrogant man in the world.
Craig: Well, thank you.
Meg: And then you save somebody's life and you get modest. You didn't think twice, you barged right in there, and I won't forget that.
Craig: Well, then, it was worth it. You see? I told you I wasn't so bad to have around.
Meg: You're hurt.
Craig: Aw, no. [Imitating a cowboy] T'aint nothin', Ma'am.
Meg: Let me take care of that for you.
Jack: Is he going to make it?
Doctor #1: He should be fine. We're just stabilizing him before we take him into surgery.
Doctor #1: You missed all of his major organs. Was that on purpose?
Jack: The way they were rolling around, I'd call it luck.
Doctor #1: Really? I wouldn’t.
Jack: Hey, you okay?
Meg: Yeah, I guess.
Jack: I'm going to need a statement from you, Meg.
Jack: But first, did you know him? What he wanted?
Meg: He said –
Milo: You killed her. You killed my wife.
Katie: Mike? Hey, where'd you go? What is it? What's wrong?
Mike: Why didn't you tell me about this?
Katie: I'm sorry.
Mike: Yeah, so am I.
Katie: Just let me explain -- Mike, listen --
Mike: Did it ever occur to you that's how we are now? Explanations? That maybe I'm tired of living a life that needs so many explanations?
Katie: Come on, Mike. It's a letter. A good-bye letter. A letter saying that you and I belong together.
Mike: Oh, great. Glad to know we have the Simon Frasier seal of approval.
Katie: Okay, you ask me why I didn't tell you about the letter? This is why. Because I knew you would react like this -- the worst possible way.
Mike: So you ripped it up?
Mike: No. You stored it in a book of poems.
Katie: I was saving it because I wanted to show it to you. I didn't want to show it to you right away, so I picked up a book, just any book, and I -- you don't care about anything that I say right now, do you?
Mike: We got a big problem. Okay? You think I'm mad or jealous, but it's not that.
Katie: What is it?
Mike: It's that I'm married to you, and I don't even know who the hell you are.
Paul: Is she all right?
Barbara: Meg's fine. The police arrived and they shot the man. It's over.
Paul: Why did he do it?
Barbara: His wife was a patient here, and she died. Meg was on duty. He blamed her.
Paul: And she's okay? The police got there in time --
Barbara: Actually, it wasn't the police who stopped the man from shooting her.
Paul: Well, then, what happened?
Barbara: You might as well hear this from me. It was Craig. Craig saved her.
Craig: Okay, so one of the primary traits of crazy people is that they say crazy things.
Meg: He thinks I -- he thinks I killed a patient.
Craig: Yeah, he thinks that you killed her. Meg, he just lost his wife, and so it made him a little nuts. He's just lashing out. He's trying to blame someone. It has nothing to do with you.
Jack: We interviewed quite a few witnesses, Meg. He accused a lot of people in this hospital of killing his wife. He just snapped.
Meg: He loved her, that's why. He loved her so much.
Jack: Maybe, maybe. But the botTom line is, he was a very, very dangerous man. And everybody says you were incredible.
Craig: She was.
Jack: You made a connection with the man. You drew his focus. You saved a lot of people.
Jack: Yeah -- Meg, he let everybody go because you.
Meg: He was never going to kill anybody, Jack. He was just looking --
Jack: You know, we can do this later, okay?
Meg: No, no, no, no, no. I want to get this over with. He let go of all those people, because he found out that I was the nurse on duty, that I was responsible for his wife.
Craig: Well, just you, huh? Not the doctor, the anesthesiologist, the other nurses?
Meg: She died of anaphylactic shock, an allergic reaction.
Craig: Right, an allergic reaction. So, how could you be responsible for that?
Meg: What we're most interested in is any medications you might be allergic to.
Sarah: Penicillin, iodine, certain anti-convulsants, sulfa drugs, adrenaline, anti-inflammatories, cipro, acetaminophen, glycerin, augmentin, things with certain pigments.
Jack: I'm going to go check her records. You sure you don't want me to give you a lift to the farm?
Meg: No, no, thank you. I'm going to wait to see how Mr. Shaughnessy's surgery goes.
Jack: You are really something. Nurse of the year, I say.
Craig: You really are something.
Meg: Could we stop talking about me? I'm sorry. How's your cut?
Craig: Oh, it's fine. Something's bothering you, isn't it? There is something you didn't tell Jack, isn't there?
Meg: You're right. There is something I didn't tell Jack.
Tom: I'll be up in half an hour. Just call me if you need anything. So, no luck finding Casey?
Maddie: Oh, maybe he doesn't have his phone. I don't know. Why would he just pick up and leave the party?
Tom: Well, there's been a lot going on. He's been tough to talk to. I get the feeling something's bothering him.
Maddie: Well, I know he was really upset about you, and then Daniel -- but it's just -- hey! Where were you?
Casey: I had something to do.
Maddie: You just left without telling anyone?
Casey: Yeah, my buddy, he was wasted. So I had to give him a ride. Sorry, dad.
Tom: It's okay. Good job.
Casey: Where'd everyone go? What happened to the party?
Tom: Actually, we have something we need to tell you. We've been trying to reach you.
Maddie: Someone -- someone broke into Crash, and they trashed the place, and stole Will's bonds.
Casey: You're kidding me --
Maddie: I really wish I was. It's horrible. I mean, who would do something like that?
Tom: I mean, your mom's already down there, so she will find out what happened. I just feel sorry for you. I know how proud of that place you are.
Maddie: It's okay. We'll get it back. We'll fix it.
Tom: I'm sure my mom had a ton of insurance anyway.
Casey: So, then, Will will get his money back, then, right?
Tom: I wouldn't be so sure about that. I mean, he just put them in, right?
Maddie: Right, yeah.
Tom: So, then, you need a separate rider for something like that. Registered bonds, they have to be registered, photocopied -- I mean, they're just like money. I'm afraid Will probably took the hit on this, tonight.
Maddie: Gwen. Gwen. They were going to use that money to finish her demo. It's just -- it's like somebody just walked into that club and stole their dreams.
Will: This just doesn't make any sense.
Gwen: Do you think whoever did it was strung out or something?
Will: Well, that's great. Now there's some junkie running around with $10,000 to put up his nose.
Adam: You know, you're not the only person this happened to.
Will: Did I say that? Was I thinking that? No.
Gwen: You guys want to try not to take it out on each other?
Adam: Right. I'm going to make a call. I'll call the studio, see if we can cancel that session, get our deposit back.
Gwen: Are you calling Richards to tell him we can't finish?
Adam: I don't want to. Then it'd really feel like throwing in the towel. But, I don't guess we have a lot of options.
Margo: Will? Can I talk to you for a moment?
Will: Yeah, sure. Look, Lisa, I am really sorry about your club.
Lisa: Oh, Honey, I can get this fixed up. Don't worry about that. But I'm afraid you're not going to get your money back.
Margo: Yeah, some bad guy had a lucky night. Registered bonds fence themselves.
Will: You can't get them back?
Margo: No. I'm sure they've unloaded them by now, you know? Before we even knew they were missing.
Will: You guys should have seen Gwen’s face when I told her we were going to finish the demo. I don't know how I'm going to tell my mom.
Margo: Will, Lisa tells me that you locked up tonight?
Will: Yeah, it was -- why? Was there something wrong?
Margo: No, no. I just want to find out what happened. Why don't you walk me through it?
Will: Okay. Yeah, sure. So, I had the bonds, and I put them in the safe, and --
Margo: Don't touch --
Will: Sorry. I locked it, and then I checked it, because there was a lot of money in there. So then, I came out here. So I closed the door, locked it. Still have the keys from last night, and then I put the code in.
Margo: Has this alarm been dusted? You want to show me how you set the alarm?
Margo: Is that right?
Adam: Something wrong, Mom?
Margo: Well, the alarm here is directly linked into the station house and the private security firm. We checked. The alarm didn't go off all evening.
Maddie: Look at this place. Doesn't look like there's any good news.
Gwen: No. Margo thinks we won't ever get the bonds back.
Maddie: I'm so sorry.
Will: It was my fault. I set the alarm. I'm sure I did, but it didn't go off when the guy broke in, so it's my fault.
Gwen: No. It's the fault of whoever broke into the safe. Tell him, Casey. Tell him to stop blaming himself.
Casey: Yeah. No, she's right. It's not your fault.
Will: I'm sure that's not what Adam thinks.
Maddie: Everybody keeps saying that they think it was a guy who did this. I still think --
Lisa: Okay, I'm going to leave now. I have to get a copy of the inventory. Are you sure you didn't have anything else in there besides your bonds?
Will: Yeah, just $10,000. That's it.
Lisa: I'm so sorry. Okay.
Maddie: Okay, I think it's pretty obvious who was around, who we know can't be trusted, and --
Margo: Maddie, that's enough.
Jade: Too late, I heard. Just who do you think did this, Maddie?
Maddie: I'm not sorry I said it. You knew the bonds were here.
Margo: I said that is enough, Maddie.
Jade: I didn't do this.
Margo: We didn't say that you did. You want to sit down, here? You want to tell me where you've been the last couple of hours?
Jade: What a surprise. Something terrible happens and ten minutes later, everybody thinks it's my fault.
Margo: Just tell me where you've been the last couple of hours.
Jade: I was upset, so I took a long walk. Just like I was doing when she accused me of being the slasher.
Margo: Did anyone see you on this walk?
Jade: I don't know, maybe.
Maddie: She used to work here, Margo, okay? She knows how to disable the alarm --
Maddie: She doesn't have an alibi, she hates Gwen, she's tried to steal everything that she has --
Casey: Maddie, enough, all right? You're way off base!
Maddie: You can't defend her --
Casey: Jade didn't do it!
Craig: It's good.
Meg: Good, what?
Craig: Good that you didn't tell Jack everything. You've been through a lot. You're under a lot of stress. You should keep your own council now, especially around other cops.
Meg: So you think I did something wrong?
Craig: Not at all. In fact, I'll tell you what I think. I think you're one of those conscientious people who hold themselves to a very high standard. Like me. That was a joke. Okay, so this crazy guy, he makes an accusation, and everyone knows and accepts that it's crazy. Except for you. You don't do that. You get inside your head, and you think, could this possibly be my fault? Is there some little detail that I did wrong? And I really admire that about you, but you cannot let cops see any shade of grey. They will see your conscientiousness as guilt.
Meg: I was talking to Jack. He's my cousin. My friend.
Craig: And he's always a cop. It's in his DNA to uncover secrets. Even when they have nothing to do with the crime. Now Meg, we went through this together. We know how intense it was. So, if you need to talk, talk to anyone -- talk to me. I'm the guy who knows what happened here, okay?
Jack: I briefly went through Sarah Shaughnessy’s medical records. You were the one who signed off on the pre-surgical consent forms. So, if there was an allergy that might've resulted in anaphylactic shock, you would've noted it, right?
Meg: That's right. You know, Jack, if you're done with me, I'd like to get out of here.
Craig: We'll get some air.
Jack: Yeah, I'm going to need a statement from you, too, Craig. Are you sure you don't want me to call Holden?
Meg: No. No, I'm fine. I'm fine. When you do write up my statement, make sure it's in there that if it wasn't for Craig, I'd be dead.
Jack: Hey -- I don't think I ever thanked you for that.
Craig: And vice versa. [Craig laughs] Look at us. What do you think? We owe each other, huh?
Paul: I got to go find Meg.
Barbara: No, no, no. You can't go anywhere, Honey. You're not strong enough. You're going to hurt yourself.
Paul: You're all right?
Meg: Yeah, I -- Jack -- it's over.
Barbara: And now, this is where you apologize to Paul?
Paul: Mom, stop that.
Barbara: Don't you understand, Paul? She had you drugged. You know what? I'm going to have you released from here. Because I don't think you could survive one more hour of what they call care around here.
Paul: That's my mom.
Meg: Its okay, it doesn't matter. I believe you. I believe you see things before they happen.
Paul: Thank you. You know, I feel now, with you, I can figure out how to deal with this, somehow.
Meg: I said some horrible things -- you know, the well, I said that you poisoned it, and now I know that you didn't --
Paul: Don't, I know why you didn't believe me. Let's just be happy that you're okay.
Meg: What? What's wrong?
Paul: The blood. I was so scared it was you.
Meg: Paul. How did you know that man was coming for me? How did you know?
Katie: I didn't tell you about a letter the second that I got it. I love you. What's more important?
Mike: I think it depends on the letter.
Katie: It was nothing, Mike! A final good-bye.
Mike: From who? I don't know -- this guy -- and let's just do the most recent history, okay? The guy comes into town, he blows -- well, let's see -- one, two, three four, five, six -- seven lives. Three kids without a mother right now, but who cares, you know? You don't have any money, just go steal something. The rules don't apply to him. He's different. He's pathetic. And the fact that you want to save some souvenir as your good times together? After what he did to me, and you -- Jack, Carly, Parker, Sage, J.J. -- you want to save some letter this guy writes you?
Katie: It was not as a sentimental thing. I wanted to show it to you. I was saving it for later, so that we could talk about it. And after everything, I don't expect you to understand that. But I am so sick of defending myself. I can't do it. I can't do this anymore.
Mike: Oh, great. We finally agree on something. For the first time in a long time, we agree on something. We just can't do this anymore.
Katie: I could rip up this letter, I could burn it. We could move. I could never mention his name again, but it wouldn't be enough, would it?
Mike: You know, I'm not trying to say that I haven't made mistakes. I mean, I've slept with some of the wrong people, and you know, I've hurt people, but you keep holding on to this fantasy that you and Simon are some kind of -- I don't know, love story.
Katie: You want me to hate him, and I -- I don’t.
Mike: No, I just -- I want you to be happy. And with me feeling the way that I do, you are not going to be happy with me. We don't have anyplace to go.
Katie: You're right there. But you're already so far away.
Mike: I think what kills me is, I end up hurting you more than he does.
Paul: I wish I could break it down for you, explain to you how these visions come. But when they do, there's no warning. And it's only ever bits and pieces. It's never the whole picture.
Meg: So, you didn't know why this man came for me?
Paul: No, I didn't see the man. I didn't see anyone. I just saw the hallway and blood and the blood drive poster.
Meg: But you were worried about me.
Paul: Meg, I'm always worried about you.
Meg: He -- the man -- he wanted to hurt me because I was taking care of his wife. And she died.
Paul: But you're okay now. You're okay.
Meg: Jack shot him. And he almost bled out. There was blood all over the floor.
Paul: So, the blood was his. Not yours.
Meg: When they were taking him to surgery, he opened his eyes, he looked at me -- and he said I killed his wife.
Paul: Oh --
Meg: Can you promise me, swear on your life that you don't know any of what I just told you?
Paul: I swear. I swear. I don't know what these things mean. I'm not in control of these visions. They control me.
Meg: Okay. I have to go. I have to see how his surgery went.
Meg: Are you okay?
Paul: Yeah, I guess. Meg? Next time, you'll listen to me, right?
Meg: I won't ever doubt you again. Hopefully, there never will be a next time.
Barbara: You're released. Now let's get the hell out of here.
Paul: No, I'm going to stay in the hospital.
Casey: It doesn't make sense that jade would do this. She's living with Lily and Holden now, so she's got all the money she needs.
Maddie: It wasn't for the money. It was to ruin Gwen’s life.
Jade: Do I have to stay here and take this?
Margo: No, you don’t. But I'll be checking out on those long walks of yours.
Jade: Fine. You know, if I wanted to ruin your singing career, I wouldn't steal the money. I'd let people hear the demo.
Adam: That was mean.
Jade: Oh, gee, I'm sorry. Do you think I hurt her feelings?
Adam: I'm talking about Maddie, all right? She has no right to talk to you like that.
Jade: My problem is -- she does. Some of what she told your mother is the truth, and your mother knows it. Now, I'm the prime suspect.
Adam: Well, it still isn't fair, and I'm sorry.
Jade: You know I wouldn't do this to you, don't you? I wouldn't do that. I'm not like that.
Adam: I know.
Jade: Wow, you sounded like you almost meant it.
Adam: Jade, I did, all right? I've got to get back in there. I'll call you tomorrow?
Jade: Yeah, I won't hold my breath.
Will: I'm so sorry.
Gwen: Please stop saying that. Look, I know you're not going to like this idea --
Gwen: We could ask your mom --
Adam: You think Barbara’s really going to want to shell out more, when he lost $10,000 in -- what, a day?
Gwen: You know what? Get off his back.
Barbara: This is wonderful. Simply wonderful.
Paul: Mom --
Barbara: You come here, and no one believes you, they tell you you're crazy, they drug you against your will, and yet this is where you decide you want to stay.
Paul: To find out what's happening.
Barbara: To hide from the world. And to be near that woman, who doesn't give a damn about you.
Paul: I'm not hiding. I'm finally ready to fight.
Barbara: Good. Just don't do it here!
Paul: I have to start here. I want them to do every test they can on me. Physical, mental -- find out what's happening, so I can control it.
Barbara: Good. And, so, where is she? Where's your precious Meg? You came here to save her life, you've proven that you've been right about everything, and she came in here -- what, for five seconds, and she left you again? Why does she keep walking away from you, Paul?
Paul: She's just scared.
Barbara: And why do you keep going back for more?
Paul: She needs me.
Milo: You killed her. You killed my wife.
Meg: He's right. I did kill her.
[Craig is around the corner and overhears Meg say this]
Will: So, when I get my next trust fund payment in the summer --
Gwen: What about it?
Will: If we could promise the record exec that we'll finish the demo by say, July -- then, you think he'd hold off until then?
Gwen: Yeah. Guys like him, you know, they're usually very patient. Nobody wants to be a musician, he won't mind waiting.
Will: Okay, I'm sorry.
Gwen: I mean, its okay. You don't have to feel guilty. It's just, I'm sorry -- I can't get over it right away. You know, we were really --
Will: We were so close.
Gwen: Yeah, really close. And you know what? I'm not normally like this, but whoever stole those bonds, I hope that something really bad happens to them. And if it's Jade, I hope something even worse.
Elwood: Look, Mac, quit your whining, all right? Casey said he'd pay you back, and these things are as good as cash.
Dorm mate: I gave Casey money. I want money back.
Elwood: Well, then deal with Casey, all right? Because this isn't my problem.
Adam: Maybe I can help you out.
Dorm mate: Who the hell are you?
Adam: The guy who can solve your problem. I'll give you face value for that bond, right now, in cash. How can you lose?
Dorm mate: This is a weird night.
