Aaron: So, what? You invited me over here to pick up my jacket?
Lucy: It's yours.
Aaron: No, it's not. It's yours. I wanted you to have it.
Lucy: I don't think I should keep anything that belongs to you.
Aaron: I wanted -- Lucy, I wanted you to belong to me. I guess you don't want that anymore.
Lucy: I can't -- I'm sorry. Aaron, just take the jacket.
Aaron: Lucy, I don't care about the jacket. I care about you. I love you. Lucy -- Lucy, you have to forgive me. Say you'll forgive me.
Alison: I was having such a great time before you got here. Can't you just let me enjoy it a little while longer?
Chris: I wish I could.
Alison: And -- and I've never been treated the way that the people here are treating me. And everyone is just so polite, and -- can you believe that they're calling me Ms. Stewart? I guess that people are starting to see me as older than I am. And that's probably because of you.
Chris: Because of me?
Alison: I feel like a woman now, and it shows. And so I should thank you, shouldn't I?
Chris: No. No, you shouldn’t. You should let me say what I came to say.
Alison: Well, one question. Can I be -- can I be wearing this when you say it? It's cute, right? Oh, stay there while I go try it on.
Chris: Alison, please don't change anything. You can't look any better than you do now. You're beautiful.
Alison: I am? So, then we're, like, okay, right?
Chris: No, Alison. We're not okay. I think we need to stop seeing each other.
Paul: So, you think I'm gonna kill somebody, huh? Who is it you think I'm gonna kill?
James: Well, let's see -- the annoying little voice of your fiancée just begs to be silenced. And then there's your erstwhile friend, Dustin. Shall I go on?
Paul: No. The only murder I plot on a regular basis is yours.
James: You know something, Paul? The only thing I really regret about being incarcerated here is that I don't get to giggle at those folks in Oakdale if they buy your innocent act. Don't waste it on me. You and I don't really need to play mind games with each other.
Paul: You're deluded.
James: And you are a shark, just like your old man. You play your cards close to the vest. Good, good. They'll never guess. But one day, Paul, you're gonna want to give yourself a little treat, a gift.
Paul: And what would that be, father?
James: You're gonna want to watch the fireworks as you unleash your vengeance. Everybody likes a good show. Don't deny it, Paul. I can see the wheels of retribution turning now. The plotting has begun.
Paul: You want to see a good show? I'll show you a good show. One month from today. Stay tuned.
James: Oh, good, good, good. Now we've got something to look forward to. A show. But listen, don't leave your old man out, right? You know, I want details. I want time, place, victims.
Paul: No, you're just gonna have to wait, just like everybody else. But trust me -- you'll be amused.
James: No, Paul, wait. Wait, listen. Don't let these bars fool you. I could be your help, even from in here. Just tell me what you're going to do.
James: Paul --
Paul: Ryan. How's it going? Are you -- are you home?
Rose: No. Actually, I'm at the shop. I -- I stopped by to do an extra inventory. It's a good thing I did, because Mitzi forgot to turn on the alarm again. So, how are you? Are you feeling any better?
Paul: Yeah, I'm fine.
Rose: Well, good. 'Cause I've been thinking about you.
Paul: That's nice, but you don't need to worry about me, Rose.
Rose: I can't help it. And you want to know the real reason why I'm not home? I couldn't sleep. Kept thinking about you yelling at the walls at people that weren't there. It scared me.
Paul: Yeah, I know I frightened you. I didn't mean to. I'm sorry.
Rose: It's just -- I just want you to be able to talk to me, and it just didn't seem like you wanted to.
Paul: Well, I felt a little silly, because, you know, you caught me yelling at the furniture. But I don't mean -- I didn't mean to dismiss your concern.
Rose: Where are you?
Paul: I took a drive. Needed to clear my head.
Rose: Did it help?
Paul: Definitely. I'm inspired. What do you say? You want to meet at my place?
Rose: Yeah? Are you sure? 'Cause you -- I just thought maybe you need some rest.
Paul: No, no, Rose. Not tonight. We got plans to make, you and me. Big plans. And they're all for you.
Lucy: Forgive you? Who would I be forgiving? I don't even know you anymore.
Aaron: Yes, I know I let you down. All right, that night, the dance and everything, I know it was important. And I wanted to be there. I was sure I was gonna be there.
Lucy: I gave you a chance, Aaron. I gave you a chance to prove to me that I actually mean something to you, but instead you blew me off to help Dusty with his illegal gambling.
Aaron: Luce, I didn't blow you off. Look, Dusty made it sound like I could get everything finished that he needed me to do and I could still make it to the dance. And it was working out well, and then it just got crazy. But even then, Lucy, even then I still -- I still thought I was gonna make it there.
Lucy: It's not only that you didn't come back, Aaron. You got arrested.
Aaron: Lucy -- Lucy, making that delivery, okay, and talking to those bookies was messed up, but I told you why I did it. Luce, I wanted to do more for you.
Lucy: Why? When did I become a girl who cared about a fancy job and gifts? I don't care about that kind of stuff.
Aaron: You're gonna be going off to college real soon. All right, you're gonna be with a bunch of guys that are gonna be CEOs and big hot shots. How do you think I feel knowing that you're gonna be wrapped up in that lifestyle? And going home to some kind of grease monkey that fixes cars? I wanted to be more for you.
Lucy: I never asked you to be more. I just wanted you to be who you were. That's the guy I fell in love with.
Aaron: And now I'm the guy that made a mistake. You can't love him anymore?
Lucy: I don't know if I can.
Aaron: Not ever? Why is what I did so unforgivable, Lucy?
Lucy: You lied to me.
Aaron: And that kills everything for us?
Lucy: Please, Aaron, just -- take the jacket.
Aaron: It's not mine. Nothing here belongs to me anymore.
Chris: It wasn't anything you've done.
Alison: It has to be. Otherwise you wouldn't be dumping me.
Chris: No, Alison, it's not. It's just -- we're not right together.
Alison: Because I'm too young?
Chris: Look, it's not that simple.
Alison: I know that I've done some pretty dumb stuff lately. Stuff that maybe a 21 wouldn't do, but I can change, Chris. I can try to act more grown-up.
Chris: Alison, we tried that already, okay? It doesn't work.
Alison: But it could if you would just let it.
Chris: No, I don't want you to try to be somebody that you're not, okay? Or going around thinking that if you fix some part of yourself that "Chris would want me." Okay? There's nothing to fix. We just -- we don't fit together.
Alison: What do you mean we don't fit?
Chris: I mean that I've been to college and med school, and now I'm working as a doctor, and you're barely 18. Okay, me dating you is like you going out with some kid from middle school.
Alison: No, no, it is so not the same. A person in middle school is, like, 12. I am more than 12, Chris. And besides, it's okay for a girl to date an older guy. Look at Emily and Hal.
Chris: Look, I shouldn't have gotten off on the age thing. That's not even the point.
Alison: Well then, I don't know what the point is.
Chris: The point is, I feel like I'm pushing you along too fast.
Alison: I haven't done anything that I haven't wanted to do, and you know that. You say that I'm immature, but you're not even mature enough to be honest with me.
Chris: What do you mean?
Alison: You don't feel like you're pushing me too fast. You think that I'm holding you back.
Chris: I'm sorry, Alison.
Alison: Just go, please.
Chris: Are you gonna be okay?
Alison: Sure. Great. You dumped me just in the nick of time.
Chris: I don't get it.
Alison: One more day, and I would have loved you so much that this would have killed me. But I'm okay. Just go. What are you waiting around for? Just go.
Chris: Good-bye, Alison.
Rose: It's a good thing I love you, because when you're looking at me like that, it gets me a little --
Paul: How much you love me?
Rose: You got to ask me that after that kiss? I love you more than anything. I'll always love you.
Paul: That's a good answer.
Rose: So, where you been?
Paul: Mm, I've been to the outer limits.
Rose: I figured it was something like that, because you're totally different --
Paul: I am.
Rose: -- From the way I left you. Outer limits. Okay, I need you to tell it to me in English.
Paul: I went to a place where you can see everything very clearly. Like how much I love you. I want to get married.
Rose: You got amnesia? I already said yes to that.
Paul: Yeah, I know. I want us to set a date.
Paul: One month from today.
Rose: Okay. Yeah, good.
Rose: Oh, it's good to have it on the calendar. Yeah.
Paul: Makes it real.
Rose: Yeah, yeah. Oh, well, then we can have time to sell my shop. And, Paris. We'll sail off to Paris. Sailing. I always wanted to go on an ocean liner. Maybe we'll sail to Europe.
Paul: Rose --
Paul: We're getting married in Oakdale.
Rose: You're kidding. Okay. Um, justice of the peace, something like that?
Paul: No. A big wedding. An extravaganza, with our own special guest list. My mother, my sister. I was thinking maybe Dusty can be my best man.
Rose: At my wedding? What are you talking about?
Paul: Everyone who hates us. No, everyone who has even vaguely disliked us, I want them there. I want them front and center. When we swear our vows, I want them to choke on every "I do."
Holden: Where have you been?
Aaron: Oh, no. I was supposed to have dinner with you and Lily at the Groves.
Holden: Yeah. Kids, too.
Aaron: I'm so sorry.
Holden: What was more important than having dinner with your family?
Aaron: I'm s -- I was busy. Look, things just must have got away from me. I'm sorry, guys.
Holden: That seems to be your M.O. these days. Things getting away from you. Were you at Metro?
Aaron: What difference does that make?
Holden: Does "you're under arrest" ring a bell?
Lily: Holden, please, he just walked in the door. Let him sit down, settle down, and we'll talk about it. He just walked in the door.
Holden: What happens when he walks out that door? What then? When Dusty Donovan comes looking for him and offer him another little job to do?
Aaron: Don't worry about it.
Holden: You want another job, I'll get you one at the Country Club. I want you to stay away from Metro.
Aaron: Okay, fine. God, you screw up once in this house, and nobody gives you a break -- not you, not Lucy, not anybody. I got it already.
[Cell phone rings] Hello, it's Aaron.
Alison: Oh -- I didn't mean to call you.
Aaron: What's wrong?
Alison: Chris just dumped me. I was trying to call him and I can't even speed dial right.
Holden: Who was that?
Aaron: I got to go. Don't wait up for me.
Holden: Hey, we're not finished here. Aaron -- Aaron, get back here. Aaron, I am coming after you.
Lily: Please, don't do that, Holden.
Holden: That kid is out of control.
Lily: No, you're out of control! Why are you doing everything you can to get that boy to despise you?
Rose: Yes. Let's invite everybody that hates us to our wedding. Let's not stop at your mother and your sister. Let's get daddy to come, too, if he can get out. And maybe we'll get somebody to test the cake for us so we don't keel over dead before we get to our honeymoon.
[Rose laughs] My God, you're serious?
Paul: Yeah. You thought I was kidding?
Rose: You want all that hostility around us on the day that's supposed to be the best of our lives?
Paul: Rose, we've been going about this entirely the wrong way. I mean, it's no wonder my kid brother doesn't want us to go to Paris. We -- we've been treating this wedding like it's something to be ashamed of. We've got -- we've got no wedding announcements. We don't have engagement rings. We're going all the way to Paris for this ceremony. I want us to celebrate. Rose, I want us to celebrate with the whole world how much I love you.
Rose: I love you, too. But Barbara and Jennifer? I'm gonna have to wear a gown with a bulletproof veil. It's gonna be crazy. A zoo.
Paul: You're the one who said that the D’Angelos stand and fight. So, let 'em hit us. We'll hit 'em back twice as hard.
Rose: Okay. Okay. We'll get married in front of all our enemies and thumb our nose at 'em. We're nuts. This is gonna be catnip for Barbara, you know that.
Paul: Oh, I know.
Rose: Come after us.
Paul: Bring it on.
Margo: Jack, a patrol car could have answered a disturbance call from Rosie’s Roller Palace.
Jack: I'll call if I need backup, okay? Freeze!
Mitzi: Don't shoot! I work here!
Mitzi: It's a heck of a way to greet an old friend, Jack Snyder. Oh, my gosh. You scared the living daylights outta me. You know, it's a good thing you're my favorite cop, 'cause I could have you arrested for something. I don't know -- scaring a hairdresser half to death. So, um, how have you been? How's Carly, Parker, the new baby? I feel like I haven't seen you in forever.
Jack: Yeah, yeah, Mitz. It's good to see you, too. Now, I want a good explanation for what you're doing breaking into Rose's shop.
Craig: Is this Aaron’s coat?
Craig: You two make up?
Lucy: No, I don't think that's going to happen.
Craig: Well, it's just as well. Lucy, you're about to start one of the most exciting times of your life. You don't need anyone else dragging you down. Hmm?
Lucy: Thanks, daddy. That makes me feel a whole lot better.
Craig: Oh, come on, lullaby --
Rosanna: Oh, sweetheart, would you mind checking on Cabot?
Craig: Yeah, why not? It's been almost four minutes. Do you want me to dispose of this for you?
Lucy: No. I mean, I'll take care of it. Here.
Craig: Okay, all right.
Rosanna: Thank you.
Lucy: I don't think its right to let daddy throw this away. I mean, Aaron might want it back some day.
Rosanna: Sweetie, come here. You don't stop loving somebody overnight. Not the way you loved Aaron.
Lucy: I've never seen him so upset. It was like I let him down worse than anybody ever has. Which is completely the opposite. He let me down. I hate what he did, but I don't hate him. Is that possible to hate what someone does and not hate them?
Rosanna: Sure. I feel that way about your father every other week. Look, did you let Aaron know this is the way that you feel?
Lucy: No. I wish I had.
Rosanna: Why don't you tell him?
Alison: If I acted a little nuts, it's only because I was trying to spend some more time with him.
[Knock on door] I don't know why that was so hard for Chris to get.
Aaron: Well, that's kind of how it was for Lucy and me. You know, I was just trying to make money -- not just for me, for us, for our future. And it totally backfired.
Alison: Hi. Thank you for calling me back.
Aaron: No problem. You sounded like you needed to talk. Okay, this is kinda weird. It's so much easier to spill your guts when you're on the phone, isn't it?
Alison: Maybe it's because it's safer that way. When you don't have to see a person face-to-face, you can say just about anything.
Aaron: Are you stranded here? I mean, do you need me to give you a ride home or something?
Alison: No, no.
Aaron: I should probably give you a ride home. I mean, if you're feeling the way you're feeling, I don't think it's such a great idea to drive.
Alison: No, it was hard enough to tell my mom I was gonna spend the night here with Chris. And I'm not in the mood to explain why I'm crawling back home.
Aaron: Yeah, I feel ya. Holden's all on my case, too. You know, I don't feel like explaining anything to him either. What am I gonna say, you know? "Lucy dumped me. You know, back off"? I split before he could start talking.
Alison: So, then you're not going back home?
Aaron: No. Not for a while.
Alison: Well, then maybe you could spend the night here.
Coming up on "As The World Turns" --
Rose: This place is a mess. Maybe we should clean up before -- what are you thinking?
Paul: Let's go back to bed and clean up later.
Rose: Where were you that got you all revved up?
Paul: Not really where I went -- it's just that I finally asked myself the right questions.
Rose: You're full of riddles tonight, aren't you, Paul?
Paul: I'm sorry. I am, I'm sorry. I don't mean to be so cryptic. I just asked myself the right questions. And I know that they were the right questions because, no matter how I answered them, they always began and ended with how much I love you.
Rose: Sure you want to start planning the wedding right this minute?
Paul: Mm. I guess we could -- we could put it off for a little while.
Rose: An hour?
Paul: Oh, how about two?
Rose: How 'bout eight?
Chris: I called Tom's office. They said he was here.
Margo: Well, hello to you, too, toots.
Chris: Sorry. Hi. So -- have you seen him?
Margo: Tom's in a late-night arraignment. Is there anything I can help you with?
Chris: No. Look, I'm sorry. You're busy. I shouldn't have bothered you.
Margo: And you kind of look like you just lost your last best friend.
Chris: Something like that.
Margo: Want to talk about it?
Chris: Sure. Why not? You'll be happy to learn that you got exactly what you wanted. I broke things off with Alison.
Margo: Oh, Chris, you did that for me? Gee. Golly, thanks! You know, I was just sitting here tunneling my way through a mountain of work when I said to myself, "why, Margo, if only Chris would break up with Alison. That's the boost you need today."
Chris: You know what? I can't win with this family, can I? For years, everybody was on me because I didn't have the right goals. So I straightened up. I go to med school. But, still, everybody's giving me a hard time. Mom, dad, all of you. Now you're dumping on me because of my girlfriend.
Margo: Dumping on you? We're not -- I wouldn't call it dumping, Chris.
Chris: Oh -- "isn't she a little young for you? Isn't she a little immature?" Alison may not be my age, but she's sexy. She's smart. She's funny. And I loved being with her.
Margo: Oh, so you gave that all up, all that joy, for the family?
[Imitating buzzer] Uh! I don't think so. If you broke it off, you did it because that's what you wanted to do.
Alison: If you don't wanna go home, then this is the perfect solution. There's video games on the TV and -- and there's room service. And the menu is humongous.
Aaron: I don't know. Holden's on my case. You know, it's bad enough that I split without telling him anything. If I don't get back there tonight --
[Cell phone rings]
Alison: Oh, my God. Maybe it's Chris!
Lucy: I can’t.
Alison: Hello, Chris? Oh. It's a wrong number. Wait, Aaron. This isn't even my phone. Was that Lucy?
Aaron: I don't know. It's blocked. You know, it was probably Holden, trying to bust my chops again. That guy really needs to back off.
Alison: Yeah, tell me about it. My family never backs off. And my mom and my sister -- they constantly are thinking that they know what I'm going through, and they so do not.
Aaron: You know what? I'm gonna take you up on that invite. Yeah, I'm crashing here tonight.
Alison: Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you! We could -- we could order room service, or we could go down to the lounge.
Aaron: Nah, you said there was video games, right, on the tube?
Alison: Oh, there's plenty. And there's a bunch of movies and -- all kinds of stuff. I'm -- thank you for staying here tonight. I didn't wanna be alone.
Aaron: Well, me either.
Alison: I'm sorry about Lucy.
Aaron: Yeah. Me, too.
Alison: I'm sorry. It's just --
Aaron: Look, Chris is crazy for letting you go. Hey, at least we got free cable.
Aaron: Come on. I know what it's like, okay? You don't have to explain anything.
Lily: Sometimes tough love works, and sometimes it doesn’t. How did having him arrested work out, Holden?
Holden: Didn't work out so well.
Holden: But if I back off now, Dusty will start whispering in his ear again. And we both know how Aaron listens to Dusty like he's some kind of hero.
Lily: Then maybe Dusty is the way to get through to Aaron. He did help us out when Aaron got arrested. Let me talk to him just one more time.
Holden: Once was enough. Dusty is still the guy who got you and Rose kidnapped.
Holden: I think Craig is gonna be our only ally.
Lily: Craig? Why Craig?
Holden: Craig was the one who gave Aaron the job at Metro in the first place. He arranged it. If Lucy is finished with Aaron, then Craig will want to cut Aaron loose. I'm just gonna make sure that it happens sooner rather than later.
Rosanna: Lucy, sweetheart. How did it go with Aaron, hmm?
Lucy: I dialed his number. But I couldn't talk to him. I hung up before he picked up.
Rosanna: Mm. Well, maybe later, huh?
Craig: Maybe never. She saw a side of him she didn't like. She doesn't need it in her life, right?
Rosanna: Well, I think perhaps you and I have different takes on this.
Craig: Based on what?
Craig: Oh --
[Craig laughs] You dated delinquents?
Rosanna: No. But I married one.
Craig: Oh, don't try to compare me to Mr. Haircut-of-the-month.
Rosanna: Look --
Rosanna: All I'm saying is, sometimes breaking up doesn't solve all your problems.
Craig: Well, as is evident, Lucy made a wise choice. So let's not mess with success, right?
Rosanna: Is that the baby?
Rosanna: I'll be right back, okay?
Craig: Here, take --
Rosanna: Ah, yes, yes.
Craig: Oh, lullaby, you did the right thing. Don't doubt yourself. Hmm?
Lucy: What do you think would have happened if Rosanna didn't take you back?
Craig: Let me give you a little relationship secret. I let her think that was her choice.
Craig: Mm-hmm. Yeah, listen, when you love somebody, you don't just let 'em go. You let them know how much you need them, how much you love them. And you don't stop till they give you another chance.
Lucy: Aaron tried, but I wouldn't listen.
Craig: And he quit? I would never let anything as precious as you slip away so easily.
Aaron: Well, breaking up -- it takes a lot of energy out of you, doesn't it? I'm wiped.
Alison: Me, too.
Aaron: So, you think you'll be able to sleep? Okay. Well, I'm gonna -- I'm gonna take off my shirt, I guess, so I don't mess it up. Okay. I'm gonna shut the light off now, okay?
Alison: I did some pretty dumb stuff to get Chris to come here tonight. I always think that I can set things up and -- just -- make up for it later. But when you do that, you only end up getting people even more ticked off.
Alison: But if he thinks that what I pulled with him is bad, it's nothing compared to what I did to you.
Aaron: Yeah, right? What's he complaining about? It's not like you burned down a barn for him.
Alison: Or chased him all across the country.
[Aaron laughs] He doesn't even know how lucky he had it. Instead of dumping me, he should have just given me a trophy.
Aaron: Don't take it so hard. Look, you loved him, all right? He has no clue what he just lost.
Alison: Thank you.
Aaron: I love Lucy the way you loved Chris.
Alison: But nobody's ever loved me like that. Like, with his whole heart, you know? I mean, Chris and I were hot for each other sometimes. But then he would always put on the brakes. To have someone that -- that loves you, the way that you love Lucy -- she was so lucky.
Lily: You know, staring out the window is not gonna make him come home any quicker.
Holden: Hmm. I probably shouldn't have yelled at him.
Lily: You want me to call Metro, talk to Dusty, see if he showed up?
Holden: No, I'd rather not know.
Lily: So what are you gonna do?
Holden: Hope that -- he had the good sense to go see Lucy, try to make up with her. Hope that maybe Lucy has the heart to take him back.
Chris: What is wrong with me, anyway? You know, everyone I fall for is either too young or too old. After everything I went through with Abigail, you'd think I'd learn my lesson about younger girls by now.
Margo: Well -- there's hope.
Margo: Sure. After all, you still work at the hospital with Ali. And I think, after a couple of weeks of a teenaged girl's wrath -- whew, you're cured.
Chris: Mm. I can take it. What does it say when you'd rather have somebody mad at you than crazy about you?
Margo: I think it says you're growing up, Chris.
Chris: Breaking up with her hurt like hell.
Margo: Well, more than lying to her? More than lying to yourself by staying with her?
Chris: Yeah, I guess not. Staying with her, we would have just gotten in deeper. The way she just does things without thinking -- something tells me staying with her and getting in deeper would have turned into a complete disaster
Aaron: Do you want to stop? Now's the time. Just say the word.
Mitzi: It's my job to make the deposits. I've been so spaced lately with everything that's happening around here that I completely forgot. And -- oh. Listen, you know what? Could you just please not tell Rose that I forgot to make the deposit and tripped the alarm?
Jack: Mitzi, you and Rose -- you're really good friends. I mean, she's not gonna freak out if you make one little slip-up.
Mitzi: Yeah, but she's been biting my head off for every little thing lately.
Jack: Why's that?
Mitzi: Paul and his crazy family. She's just -- she's been on pins and needles. And if she finds out that I did one more lousy thing --
Jack: Okay. Fine.
Mitzi: Please just don't tell her. Please!
Jack: Harmless little mistake, okay? It can stay between us.
Mitzi: Thanks, Jack. You're a doll. Walk me out?
Jack: Sure. Yeah. Uh, Mitzi?
Jack: The alarm.
Mitzi: Oh, see? There I go again, forgetting. I tell you, if something happens to this place before Rose gets to sell it, she's gonna explode.
Jack: Why should anything happen to this place?
Mitzi: Paul's sister and his mother -- they're nuts. And they hate Rose's guts. If you ask me, I wouldn't put anything past 'em.
Paul: Excellent. Now put that away.
Rose: Come on.
Paul: Hold on. Put it down.
Rose: Oh, come on. Just try it.
[Laughter] Mm. Ah, this place is a mess. Maybe we should clean up before -- what do you think?
Paul: Let's go back to bed. Clean up later.
On the next "As The World Turns" --
Tom: We've all had a chance to read the headlines regarding the re-prosecution of Marshall Travers for sexual assault.
Sarah: So this is your mother? She's the one who is doing all this to us?
Emily: Where are you going?
Chris: To check on her.
Paul: Rose, whoever did this had a key.
