Holden: Lucy, Aaron's always throwing stuff in his backpack. It doesn't mean that he's running away -- unless there's something that you're not telling me here.
Lucy: Aaron left me a message. He said he couldn't take the way things were between the two of you after last night and that he was leaving Oakdale. And it's all my fault.
Holden: No. This is because Aaron didn't tell me about the car and when he didn't do that, I overreacted.
Lucy: But he didn't call you because of me. Aaron's a really good guy.
Holden: Whoa, whoa, whoa -- back up. What do you mean "he didn't call because of you"?
Lucy: My dad said I couldn't go to the concert, but I told Aaron he said okay. Aaron didn't know I lied to my dad until after we lost the car keys and I started freaking about getting home too late.
Holden: So, Aaron didn't tell me about the car, because he didn't want you to get in trouble with your father? All right.
Lucy: If we don't find your son, he's gonna leave Oakdale.
Alison: This sure was a monumentally stupid idea. Let's just get the hell out of here.
Emily: You know, I thought I knew all of your moves and then you just go right out and surprise me.
Hal: Hey, you ain't seen nothing yet. Now, go put on your best dress, 'cause I got a lot more surprises planned for tonight.
Emily: Wait a minute -- tonight? But Alison, she's still out there. She's -- she's missing, and -- and you just proposed to me. You just put a ring on my finger.
Hal: Em, --
Emily: I'm sorry.
Hal: -- We're not 17 and we've got baggage. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have given you the ring when you're so worried about Alison.
Emily: So, maybe you should go to the station. Or at least call.
Hal: You know what? Better yet, I'm gonna head down there, maybe they've heard something by now.
Emily: Whoa, whoa -- what about us? I mean, are we gonna celebrate?
Hal: Yeah. For about the next 50 years. But right now, we find Alison.
Aaron: I brought you to your sister's house to talk, so talk. I'll wait.
Alison: I -- I don't know what to say. And that's weird for me. Everything is weird for me. I started the day as me and I ended up as a science project.
Aaron: How you got here doesn't change who you are.
Alison: Maybe not. But it changes who Emily is. Aaron, my screwed-up sister is my mother.
Aaron: So, knock on the door and see what mom does next.
Alison: Oh, I'm not ready for this. I'll -- I'll just come back tomorrow.
Alison: Okay. But, once that door opens, anything could happen.
Emily: Oh, Alison. Alison, come here! Oh, God, we've been so worried!
[Knock on door]
Katie: Simon? Simon? "Katie, meet me on the veranda. Henry." Henry, if you're playing hide-and-seek with my husband, it is the last thing you will ever do.
Desi: May I help the pretty senora?
Katie: Ah, yes, do you know Henry Coleman? Dry martini, whiff of vermouth?
Desi: Try the terrace.
Katie: Thank you. Oh, Henry, you better be here.
Henry: Over here.
Katie: I oughta drag you face first through the swamp. What is going on? Where is my husband? And what's going on with him?
Henry: I have no idea. I do know that he's not upstairs with you.
Katie: Oh, and I'm supposed to believe the cretin who kidnapped Rose's father and dragged her off during her engagement party?
Henry: No, no, no. Cooley nabbed Joe, not me. You remember Cooley, right? Really fond of you, very disappointed when you abandoned us on the island.
Katie: My husband, Henry --
Henry: Look, I am not the enemy here. All right? If I was, would I have sent you that telegram?
Henry: Yes. See, I'm here to protect Simon. When Cooley shows up, the two of us are going to leave this island very rich and very desperate men. Now, if dingo boy gets in the way, the results could be very unfortunate. I sent for you to distract him. Don't bother to thank me.
Katie: Thank you for disrupting people's lives, again.
Henry: Excuse me. Hello. We're talking about Oakdale. A place where everyone's life is disrupted.
Katie: Yeah, well, I was about to have a settled one. Thank you very much.
Henry: Right, right. With Simon. Right.
Henry: Katie, the man is a menace. Now, he may have defeated the dead wife rap, but that doesn't make him innocent. He stole my provenance right out of my pocket.
Katie: "Your" provenance? Try Rose's. The one you extorted from her.
Henry: Okay, maybe not exactly my provenance, but it's not Simon's either. And if you think he's gonna give it back to that gum smacker, you need to floss between the ears, Katie. Look, he took the provenance for one reason only -- so that he could steal the diamond legally.
Katie: Oh, come on. I'm not even listening to this.
Henry: You listen -- no, you listen to me.
Katie: Henry, no! No!
Henry: Open your eyes and ears here. He has an agenda. And it revolves around this gorgeous hunk of carbon.
Katie: Yeah, I have an agenda and it revolves around a gorgeous hunk of man.
Henry: Oh, come on.
Katie: Stay away from me.
Henry: Katie --
Katie: Oh, and if you're gonna slip something under my door -- be careful, 'cause I'll step on your hand -- hard.
Henry: Katie -- Katie, will you listen to me? I've always been there for you.
Katie: Simon! Where were you?
"Simon": Busy. The stars are lined up over my head tonight. I can't lose.
Katie: What are you doing?
"Simon": Well, well, well, I'm sorry you don't approve.
Katie: Of you playing cards and patting waitresses on their bottoms when you're supposed to be looking for Paul and Rose? No, I don't completely approve.
"Simon": Listen, listen -- if you flew all the way here to nag me, don't bother.
Katie: Why are you being so -- Simon, I was worried about you. I thought you had been kidnapped or something. And then Henry told me that you stole the provenance to start looking for the diamond yourself. He's probably spreading that lie all over this place.
"Simon": Look, I took the provenance to protect it.
Katie: Okay. Yeah, well, I understand. That makes sense. Probably Henry just being Henry. So why don't you give it to me and I'll give it to Lucinda, 'cause she has tons of contacts on this island.
"Simon": No, no. You're not touching it. You're not touching it.
Katie: Okay. You can give it to her yourself.
"Simon": Listen -- look, look -- all right? Look, I'm beat, I'm a little drunk and I'm in no mood for games. So, if you want to play little wifely, that's fine by me. But, go play it with someone else.
Lucinda: Is it too late for a cocktail?
Desi: For a lovely lady? Never. Did you have a nice evening? You were out a long time.
Lucinda: Well, I was looking up old acquaintances.
Desi: Yes. When the new regime came to power, many people in our government were replaced.
Lucinda: Many good people.
Desi: Your cocktail?
Lucinda: Vodka martini.
Desi: Yes. I'd like to give you a little something extra with your drink --
Lucinda: Oh, please, it's totally necessary.
Desi: No, no. You misunderstand. A warning, Senora Walsh, about your friend Simon Frasier.
Lily: What about the pilot? Has anyone heard from him? Please call me if you hear anything.
Margo: Knock, knock, knock.
Lily: Thank you. Thank you for getting here so quickly.
Margo: Listen, listen, I didn't expect to see you here for a couple of months. Is everything okay?
Lily: A little scare, but the baby -- the baby's fine.
Margo: And mama?
Lily: Not good. Katie got a telegram from Simon, from Avanya, yesterday. And asked her to come down there immediately.
Margo: Oh, no, don't tell me Katie --
Lily: And my mother flew down there last night.
Margo: What is she thinking? She knows that they don't cooperate with American authorities. People disappear down there without a trace.
Lily: Oh, they know. My mother knows that. Everybody -- no, that's not even the worst part. Their jet has disappeared once it got into Avanya airspace. I have no idea where they are. Please, I -- I need your help to find them. I'm just so worried.
Margo: And that's what got you out of bed, isn't it?
Lily: I just feel so useless lying here.
Margo: You're not useless. Growing a baby is not being useless.
Lily: I've prayed, I've meditated, I've done everything I can. I've made phone calls. But I cannot help worrying about my sister. I have to help her.
Margo: You have. You already have. You called me. Don't worry, Lily. I'm gonna do everything I can to get everybody home.
Holden: Lucy, I'm glad that you called me. But I really don't think there's any reason to worry. Aaron, he hasn't taken off yet. He's just thinking about it.
Lucy: So he's still around?
Holden: Probably out somewhere riding his bike, just trying to cool off. Where are you going?
Lucy: To look for him.
Holden: Well, why don't you just wait here for him? He'll be back.
Lucy: For his bag?
Holden: Well, that's what he'll tell himself. But when he comes back here, he won't expect to see you. And maybe that will get him to stick around.
Holden: I'll tell you what I'll do -- I'll get you a stool. And then I'll head up to the house and maybe get you one of mama's trashy novels so you can read that while you wait for him. What's this? This doesn't look like Aaron's.
Lucy: It's Alison's. She's missing, too. I bet they were going to leave together. I have to go.
Holden: Why don't you just wait here for him to come back? I'm sure that there's logical explanation for this.
Lucy: Yeah, it's that he hates me.
Emily: Where have you been?
Alison: I can get this from mom.
Hal: It's a good question, Alison. Even I have to answer it sometimes.
Aaron: We were at Java -- just hanging out.
Alison: Aaron spent a long time talking to me about my new birth announcement. He's the only reason why I'm here.
Emily: Well, thank you. We're very grateful, aren't we?
Emily: You know Aaron Snyder, right?
Hal: Yeah. Good to see you again. Thanks for bringing Alison here.
Aaron: No problem. I gotta get going. It was great seeing you guys.
Alison: I thought you were sticking around.
Aaron: You'll be fine. Emily's real cool. She's trying.
Alison: Okay. Thank you for everything. I'll come by later to pick up my bag.
[Emily clears throat]
Hal: I've got some phone calls to make. I'm gonna be upstairs.
Emily: No, why don't -- why don't you stay with us and help us work through this?
Emily: So, here we are.
Alison: Too bad we don't know who we are.
Emily: I do. Alison, I do, finally. I mean, it only -- it only took being locked up for a couple of months not knowing if I was gonna live or die to put things in perspective. But --
Alison: I should have known this conversation was going to be all about you. Figures.
Hal: Alison -- go easy on her.
Emily: Sweetie, when I was locked up in that spa, I had a lot of time to figure out what was really important to me. And believe me, it wasn't all the things I've lied and cheated to get in my life. It was about doing right by my family -- you and Daniel and Hal and -- and mom. And that means telling the truth. I'm sorry if I did it badly, but -- I never meant to hurt you.
Alison: Well, you did. Thanks to you, I'm a freak of nature.
Katie: I don't have to play wifely, I already am one -- yours, remember? And we've been through the whole thick and thin thing already, so why are you acting like this?
"Simon": Listen up, missy. Let's lay some ground rules down right now before you step over a very dangerous line. Don't question me. I do what I want, when I want, with whomever I want. Now, if you don't like that, go sleep on the beach. Yeah, you know what? As a matter of fact, why don't you get out of here right now? That's it, come on. Let's get out of here. Out you get. Go on.
Katie: Who are you?
"Simon": I'm your ever-loving husband. Now, get out.
Katie: This conversation's not over.
"Simon": Oh, yak, yak, yak. Go on.
"Simon": Well, it looks like the honeymoon's definitely over.
Simon: I'm an Australian citizen. You have no right to hold me against my will. My name is Simon Frasier. I'm an Australian citizen. You have no right to hold me against -- my name is Simon Frasier. I'm an Australian citizen. You have no right to hold me against my will. My name is Simon Frasier! I'm an Australian citizen! You have no right to hold me against my will! My name is Simon Frasier! I am an Australian citizen!
Simon: I'm not gonna shut up! I'm innocent. You're the one that's guilty. People's lives are in danger while I'm in here, and you know it! Get me out of here, you coward! Let me out of here! My name is Simon Frasier! I'm an Australian citizen! You cannot hold me here against my will!
Lily: So, tell me the truth, is there anything the Oakdale Police Department or you can do to help find them?
Margo: The truth is that -- that Simon is down there. And the man was born for this kind of situation. And Rose -- Rose, she's tough as nails. And she's got Paul right there beside her. And Lucinda's down there. I mean, the bad boys -- they're not gonna know what hit them.
Lily: Thank you.
Margo: Sure. Listen, I'll keep you informed as to what's --
Lily: Are you all right?
Margo: Wow, that's an adventure in moving there. I just had a little low blood sugar crash, I guess.
Lily: Here, here, have something to eat. Here, crackers. I take them everywhere I go.
Margo: Thank you.
Holden: Welcome back.
Aaron: Is Lily okay?
Holden: Yeah. I'm gonna go pick her up, bring her home after you and I have a little talk.
Aaron: Am I in trouble?
Holden: You tell me. What's this all about?
Aaron: It's nothing. It's laundry.
Holden: Try again.
Aaron: After we left the hospital, I packed my bag, and I was gonna split.
Holden: Aaron, you gotta stop running away from your problems, pal.
Aaron: I don't do that.
Holden: Oh, yeah? Hard times in high school -- you quit. Bad scene in Seattle -- you jump on that bike of yours. Things get a little rough around here, you and I have an argument, you pack up your bags. Were you even going to say good-bye?
Aaron: You don't need another hassle in your life.
Holden: You're not a hassle, all right? You're my son. And I wanna set things right here. But you gotta understand something. I don't know how to raise a teenage boy. I've never done it before. So I'm gonna make some mistakes here. And if I do, you gotta cut me some slack.
Aaron: Like you cut me last night?
Holden: Okay. All right, I get it. I know what this is all about. Me using the word "stupid?" Don't turn away from me. You need to talk to me about this!
Aaron: All right then, yeah! I trusted you! And at the end, you wrote me off like everybody else!
Emily: Look, Alison, listen to me. Me donating my egg to mom does not make you a freak of nature.
Alison: I'm a science experiment that mom conducted to try and stay married.
Emily: No! You're not. You're the same terrific person you've always been. And if -- if I made you feel badly about that, I am sorry.
Alison: Stop pitying me! I don't need you building me up or mom tearing me down. I always felt like a stranger in our dumb little family. And now I feel like one in my own body.
Emily: Yeah, but -- that's normal. You know, teenagers -- that's what teenagers go through. These are very tricky years for you, sweetie. And -- and the mistakes you make now can affect the rest of your life. And that's why I'm not gonna stand on the sideline any longer and watch you struggle. I want to help.
Alison: So you tell me I was hatched in a petri dish?
Emily: I know that's a lot. I know it's a lot to deal with. That's why I'm not gonna push. I'm here for you if you need anything, if you want to talk.
Alison: Mom will be mad.
Emily: Not if you keep her in the picture, no.
Alison: Please, I can't talk to her. All she does is -- that's why I came to you.
Emily: You just made my night. You can come here anytime, Alison.
Hal: Anytime at all.
Alison: How about tonight? I can't go home and face mom. She'll want to talk, and I'm not ready.
Hal: Jennifer's room is available. You can -- you can sleep up there, no problem.
Emily: So why don't you go upstairs and check it out? And I'll -- I'll meet you up there and give you some fresh sheets.
Alison: Thanks. Thanks a lot.
Emily: Her room's the second door on the right, sweetie. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Hal: You're welcome, you're welcome, you're welcome.
Emily: And I promise, I will make tonight up to you. I -- I know that you arranged to have the boys have sleepovers so we could be alone.
Hal: Where's that matchbook?
Emily: What? What matchbook?
Hal: The one with Mona Lisa's phone number on it.
Emily: What are you talking about?
[Accordion music playing] what is that?
Hal: That would be our dinner.
[Waiter speaking Italian]
Emily: "Lady and the tramp." This is "lady and the tramp." This is your favorite movie, Hal.
Hal: Well, I -- I figured it was fitting -- lady. Surprise.
Emily: Oh, thank you.
Alison: Some guy's playing an accordion outside the window. What's going on?
Waiter: I'm sorry. I thought the dinner was only for two -- you and your fiancée.
Alison: You guys are engaged? I ruined everything again.
Emily: No, Alison! Please come back here! Sweetie, come back!
[Accordion music stops]
Hal: Breadstick, anyone?
Alison: I've ruined your evening.
Emily: No, not -- not ruined it.
Hal: Not ruined it.
Hal: Just changed it. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. I think I'll go upstairs and see if Jen's room is ready or -- I think I smelled a wet sneaker in her bathroom.
Alison: Congratulations. So you're getting married?
Alison: Can I see the ring?
Alison: That's -- that's amazing.
Emily: Isn't it beautiful?
Alison: I meant your fingernails. They're just like mine.
Emily: Sweetie -- Hal and I weren't just being nice earlier, okay? We really want you here.
Alison: You're getting married, things are gonna change.
Emily: Well, yeah, they're gonna change. But it doesn't mean I'm not gonna have time for you.
Alison: Maybe I should go. I -- I shouldn't have been here tonight.
Emily: Is that what you want? Well, then stay.
Alison: But if mom finds out that I'm here, she's gonna want me to go home.
Emily: Don't worry about mom. I'll -- I'll deal with her.
Alison: But she's already mad at you.
Emily: Right. So, what have I got to lose?
Alison: Okay, thanks. Thanks, Emily.
Emily: Anytime, Alison. Anytime.
Holden: I'm sorry that I used the word "stupid." I was mad, I was worried, and I just snapped.
Aaron: I should have called.
Holden: Next time.
Aaron: I didn't want to disappoint you. You loaned me your car, and then I go lose your keys.
Holden: Hey, it happens. But I didn't know that you lost the keys. It could have been an accident.
Aaron: What would you have done?
Holden: If you had called me, I would have come, and I would have helped you out.
Aaron: That's it?
Holden: Yeah. That's it. So next time you have any car trouble --
Aaron: Call you. I really didn't want to leave.
Holden: I'm glad to hear it.
Aaron: Alison did, but I got her to stay.
Holden: Oh, yeah -- Alison. Aaron, Lucy was here.
Aaron: Where'd she go?
Holden: She was here. I found this -- Alison's bag. And when she saw it, she took off.
Aaron: I gotta go find her.
Holden: Wait a minute. Wait a minute. I think you need to tell me what's going on here first.
Margo: These are good.
Lily: Oh, I know. Believe me, I buy the family pack and hide them from everybody.
Margo: This is really ironic, isn't it? I come here to visit you, and I end up passing out.
Lily: What do you think it is?
Margo: It's jealousy. Jealousy seeing you lying down, relaxed. It's just pure, unadulterated, exhaustion. It's just -- it's been a hell of a year. I can't tell you the last time I had two days off in the same month.
Lily: You know, I should have called Hal or Jack with anything to do with this Avanya situation.
Margo: I can handle this. I can. I mean, with Simon and Katie down there, I'm involved.
Lily: So, you're just tired?
Margo: Oh, am I tired? Yeah.
Margo: Queasy, yeah. But, you know, then I eat something and -- no.
Lily: I'm just saying maybe --
Margo: No, no, no.
Margo: No chance. No, no. It's just -- it's -- no.
Lily: All right.
Margo: Nothing a nap wouldn't cure.
Desi: When Mr. Frasier first arrived, he was a different man.
Lucinda: He was?
Desi: Yes. He was kind, concerned, consumed with finding your Rose, then he changed to a man who is feared.
Lucinda: And what do you think made him change?
Desi: Well, according to the gossip among the kitchen staff, someone is looking for a diamond.
Lucinda: Oh, a diamond, really?
Desi: And your Mr. Frasier says he's going to walk away with it.
Lucinda: Thank you. Hello, darling. What happened? What happened? Did Simon return?
Katie: Return? Yes, he's returned from the Neanderthal days.
Lucinda: Oh, he's a Neanderthal with strange eyes. Well, what -- what do you think has made him change?
Katie: I don't want to talk about it right now. I just need to be alone. I'm gonna sleep out here tonight.
Lucinda: In the bar, darling? What are you gonna do in the morning?
Katie: I don't know. I'm gonna give him one more chance. And if he can't explain himself, I'm going back to Oakdale.
Aaron: I've gotta go talk to Lucy.
Holden: What you need to do is, you need to talk to me first. Alison and Lucy -- you're not stringing either one of these girls along, are you?
Aaron: I'm not. Alison's just going through some bad times with her family. She just needed somebody to hang with.
Holden: You said that you stopped her from running away. Is she staying because she wants to stay with her family or is she staying because of you?
Aaron: She's just a friend, that's it. Trust me.
Holden: Okay, fine, I trust you. But you better go tell that to Lucy. Otherwise this dinner with her and Craig is going to go in the tank.
Holden: Tomorrow night.
Holden: Craig and I arranged it today. And Lucy doesn't know about it yet.
Aaron: Oh, God, that's great. I'm gonna go tell her. Thanks a lot, Holden.
Holden: One more thing -- I know the other reason why you didn't tell me about the car. You were covering for Lucy. Don't do it again. For the record, I'm proud of you. I would have done the same thing.
Lucy: No, Dr. Stewart, I haven't seen Alison. But if I do, I'll have her call you. I don't think I will though. Bye. This might have meant something, Alison, if you hadn't turned around and stolen my boyfriend.
Alison: I'm kind of tired, so I'm gonna head upstairs. Thanks again.
Emily: Oh, you are so welcome. Hey.
Hal: Did I hear you say -- did I hear you tell Alison that you were going to call Susan for her?
Emily: Yeah. I mean, I don't want to -- believe me -- but I think it would be simpler.
Hal: For who? For Alison?
Emily: Yeah, of course.
Hal: But not for you. You know, this is gonna mess up this whole new beginning that you got with Susan, isn't it? Why don't you let me call her for you?
Emily: You'd do that for me?
Hal: I'd do anything for you. But I want you to do something for me.
Hal: Don't take your mother on.
Emily: Sorry, too late. It's second nature for us to battle.
Hal: But things have changed, Emily. And the last thing that Alison needs is two mothers fighting over how she should be raised.
Lucinda: You can't go home!
Katie: Why not? Simon could care less if I stay or not. In fact, he wants me to go.
Lucinda: Well, you can't go home, all right? And -- and if he doesn't want to see you anymore, and if that's what he's saying, there's just further evidence that Simon is not right.
Katie: No kidding he's not right. Not only is he being totally mean, he's been stealing things.
Lucinda: What has he stolen?
Katie: Well, I ran into Henry Coleman and Henry said that Simon stole the diamond's provenance right off of him. So I went to Simon to get his side of the story. And he admitted it.
Lucinda: Oh. So what? Okay.
Katie: So when I told him that we should give it to you for safe keeping, he looked at me like I had three heads. He looked at me like I was a spy. He wouldn't even show it to me. What is going on with him? I don't understand it.
Lucinda: The man is down here doing a job for me. You know what? The barman just told me something.
Lucinda: He told me that when Simon first arrived, he was one way, then something happened and he changed.
Katie: So what, he just developed a second personality?
Lucinda: I have no idea. How would I know? But I can tell you something, darling -- even if Simon doesn't know it himself, he needs you. He needs you right now more than ever before. Anyone who loves barbecue
Katie: Why would a man who loves his wife suddenly treat her like a dog? Unless he doesn't love her anymore.
Lucinda: Maybe -- maybe Simon's trusted the wrong people.
Katie: I just don't know what to do. What do I do?
Lucinda: Oh, it's so simple, darling. You just sit tight. Sit, stay, play the good wife. Be here. When I'm here, we'll exchange reports. It'll work out. We'll make it work out.
Katie: Okay. Makes sense.
Lucinda: You're not really going to sleep down here?
Katie: I just need some time alone, I guess.
Lucinda: All right. 'Cause I wouldn't if I were you. But there's a sofa in my room.
Katie: Thank you.
Lucinda: See ya.
Katie: Tomorrow, Simon -- tomorrow, we make everything right.
"Simon": Tomorrow, Cooley -- tomorrow you show up with that diamond, and I get the score of a lifetime.
["Simon" laughs] yep, the Rose of Sharon diamond -- nothing else matters.
Simon: Come back here, you coward! All right. There's got to be a way out of here. Okay, rotten plaster.
Simon: All right. All right, all right.
Lily: So, you feeling better?
Margo: Oh, yeah, carbo-loading, it always does it for me. Listen, I'll let you know as soon as I find out anything.
Lily: Oh, Holden.
Holden: Hey, Margo. What brings you by?
Lily: I'm ready to go home.
Margo: Okay, I'll talk to you later.
Holden: Margo -- Lily --
Lily: How's Aaron? Did you find him?
Holden: Yeah. Yeah, he's fine. And he didn't have any problems answering any of my questions. Unlike my wife. Come on, spit it out. Why did you call Margo?
Lily: I -- I told her about Katie and my mother. I was hoping that she'd keep tabs on them.
Holden: I thought the doctors told you that you needed to avoid stress.
Lily: Yes, exactly. That's why I called Margo. She can concentrate on them, and I can concentrate on the baby. Admit it, isn't it a relief to know that the safety of my mother and Katie are in Margo's capable hands?
Emily: Look, I don't -- I don't want to fight with my mom. I just want to do what's right. And right now, that means helping Alison.
Hal: All I'm saying is, be careful. Susan's already angry at you for telling Alison that you're her biological mom. You're just gonna have to be sensitive.
Emily: Sensitive to what? Her desire to keep Alison away from me? Forget it. She's had her way for years now. And I'm not willing to put up with it anymore.
Hal: Well, you don't have to, hon. But just go easy. If you guys break out into some sort of a mother war, Alison is gonna lose.
Emily: All right. How's this -- I promise to keep my cool or I'll leave the room.
Hal: That's not bad.
Emily: Okay. I don't want to talk about anybody else anymore. I want to talk about us.
Hal: Yeah, us -- us.
Emily: Yeah, our engagement and my beautiful ring and our dinner and -- you, how much I love you. And, as soon as Alison goes to bed, I'm going to show you just how much.
Alison: Emily, do you know where the remote for the VCR is? Ooh, oops. Did I interrupt something?
Emily: No, no, not a thing. Did you -- did you look under the cushions, because Daniel likes to play airplanes with them now, so -- hold on. You don't mind, do you?
Hal: Oh, no, not at all. No, I have a phone call I have to make actually.
Emily: Later. I promise. Okay. Come on, let's go.
[Alison and Emily laughing]
Hal: Oh, yes, hello. This is Hal Munson. I had a reservation tonight for the honeymoon suite. Yeah. I'm gonna have to cancel.
[Emily and Alison laughing] you could say something kinda came up.
[Knocking at door]
Aaron: Lucy? Are you there? Open up. Lucy?
Lucy: Go away!
Aaron: I have to talk to you.
Lucy: Go talk to Alison!
Aaron: I have to talk to you! The reason Alison came by the barn was because she was planning on running away!
Lucy: Yeah, with you!
Aaron: No, alone. I talked her out of it, and I took her to her sister's house. Lucy?
Lucy: Why is Alison always around, anyway?
Aaron: I don't know. I mean, it's not like I invite her or anything. I have to talk to you -- about us.
Lucy: How can there be an us if you were going to take off without even seeing me?
Aaron: Because -- can I come in?
Lucy: No. My dad's not home.
Aaron: Well, then can you come out here in the hall? Please?
Lucy: I guess. How could you even think about leaving without saying good-bye?
Aaron: Because -- if I saw you, I wouldn't have been able to leave.
Lucy: I thought you didn't care.
Aaron: Lucy -- that'll never happen. I have big news about me and you.
Lucy: There can't be a me and you until further notice. I promised my dad I wouldn't see you till we could all sit down and have dinner.
Aaron: Is that sometime tomorrow night?
Lucy: You mean -- my dad actually --
Aaron: Yeah. He set up a dinner -- all four of us. Lily might show up, too. We're gonna do that whole meatloaf and mashed potato thing.
Lucy: My dad came through. He really did. I gotta get back inside. I don't want him to think that I broke off the deal. He might cancel dinner.
Aaron: One more thing --
Lucy: I love it when you kiss me. I don't want you to ever stop. That's why everything has to be perfect tomorrow night. So we can keep seeing each other.
Aaron: No matter what happens tomorrow night, you and me are gonna be together. Nothing and no one's gonna change that.
