Bianca: Hi. Are you ok?
Marissa: I -- I'm amazing.
Marissa: Yeah. I don't look amazing?
Bianca: You look perfect.
Marissa: Thank you.
Bianca: It's just that last night was -- new for both of us, but especially for you, so I just want to make sure everything's ok.
Marissa: I am so much better than ok.
Bianca: Oh. I can't believe how late it is.
Marissa: I know. God, I haven't slept that well in so long.
Bianca: It must be the company.
[Cell phone rings]
Marissa: It's definitely the company. Back to reality. Hi, Caleb. J.R. did what?
Liza: So I just got word that the custody hearing was already moved up? You're really not wasting any time, are you?
J.R.: Let's just get this over with. Help me get my son, and I'll help you with Colby.
Colby: What is she doing here again?
J.R.: Liza's agreed to help me win back custody of A.J.
Colby: Yeah? In exchange for what?
Tad: Jake, wait a minute. Listen. Cara told you she was taking off?
Jake: No, she didn't tell me she was taking off, but she had that look in her eyes, and she also pawned all of her patients off on to another doctor.
Tad: Ok, it doesn't sound like her, but I put her through a lot. Maybe she just needs a breather?
Jake: Yeah. No. That's not the look that she had.
Tad: Ok, I'll call Jesse.
Jake: Let me save you the time there. Cara's car is still in the parking lot.
Tad: If she does take off, I can't say I'm surprised. After what I said to her, I'd be surprised if she stuck around.
Jake: You guys had a fight or something?
Tad: No, it's worse. I told her I was still in love with Dixie.
Cara: To the future.
David: To the future. So, Tad and Dixie back together again.
Cara: You don't sound so surprised.
David: Well, she is the great love of his life, right? Hard to compete with that. Believe me, I tried. No matter what I pulled -- trust me, I pulled a lot -- couldn't keep her from running back to that imbecile.
Cara: Just gonna go ahead and ignore that last part.
David: Most people do.
Cara: Were you in love with her?
David: It's a sad habit of mine, falling for unavailable women.
David's Voice: There was a time when people thought Ryan would never get over losing Gillian. Who knows, maybe he still hasn't.
Ryan: Hey. Are you ok? 'Cause I could literally feel you tense up.
Greenlee: Well, thinking about David will do that to a person.
Ryan: So he did say something to upset you.
Greenlee: No, I can't stop thinking about it all. Regardless of what he's done, people's lives are changed forever because of David. Not just people, our friends. Your son. Everyone has been given the most incredible gift. What if he could do that for you?
Zach: I know it's out there.
Kendall: Out there? I don't even know what this is, Zach. I have no idea what this is.
Zach: I understand, but you know it has to be done. I'm trying to understand that, but I'll tell you right now, I hate it.
Ryan: Are you still thinking about the dream that you had about Leo? Because you know it was just Hayward's --
Greenlee: No, that's not what this is about.
Ryan: Then what?
Greenlee: It's just a lot to take in. Zach home after all this time, after we were thinking we were responsible. Part of me wants to annihilate David for allowing us to go through all that. Part of me wants to say thank you.
Ryan: I'll add your name to the card on the gift basket I send him.
Greenlee: Ha ha. Just -- don't push Zach too hard.
Ryan: Ok. I can't imagine what it must have been like to think that Leo was still alive, even if it was just for a second. But you can't let David get to you, because if he does, then he gets between us. And if he gets between us, then he wins. And he's definitely gonna try.
Greenlee: Let him.
Kendall: From the minute I saw you in this hospital alive, I wanted only one thing. I wanted to go home and lock that door and be alone with you and our boys.
Zach: You don't think that's what I want?
Kendall: Obviously not, if you're asking me to do this.
Zach: I'm not asking you. It'd be a lot easier if you went along with it. Not that you haven't made things easy.
Kendall: Zach, this is a lot.
Zach: Hey. You and me, we can get through anything. Always only us.
Kendall: Right. All right. I need some water. Do you want anything?
Zach: I'm good.
P.A. System: Paging Dr. Battaglia, call extension 198. Dr. Battaglia, extension 198.
Griffin: You look like you could use a friend. I'm hoping this will qualify.
Marissa: J.R. had the custody hearing moved up. I know what he's doing. He's trying to get me off balance and throw me off my game.
Bianca: Hey. Hey, J.R. is not going to take A.J. away from you. I won't let him. And you know Caleb definitely won't.
Marissa: Right. Yes. I know that I'm not A.J.'s biological mother, but my connection to that little boy -- he needs me.
Bianca: He'll have you.
Marissa: Right. Will you be there? At the court with me, please?
Bianca: I will be your very own personal cheering section.
Marissa: Thank you.
Bianca: You and me, we're a package deal, right?
Marissa: Yeah. Ha ha!
Colby: This is a family court case, J.R. My mother is a disaster in that department.
Liza: Colby, please.
Colby: Oh, I'm wrong? Your family's dirty laundry isn't splattered all over the Internet?
J.R.: Whoa! After my meeting with Judge Patane, Bugs Bunny could represent me. It wouldn't matter.
Liza: Are you telling me you met with the deciding judge today?
J.R.: It was just orange juice. We had a great time. Patane seemed moved by my -- generosity.
Colby: You bribed him?
Liza: You didn't.
J.R.: A donation. A donation to sway his decision, that's all.
Liza: He's definitely gonna be swayed. It's just not gonna be in the direction that you were hoping.
Jake: God, I wish I could help you in all of this.
Tad: I know. Listen, your place is with Amanda. How is she?
Jake: She's good. She's almost ready to go home.
Tad: Glad to hear it. Go. Be with your wife.
Jake: All right. Hey. You ever wonder if Cara wishes she never met either one of us?
Tad: Can you blame her? You're irritating, and I'm not getting any better looking. Personally, I don't care if she hates me for the rest of my life, as long as I know she's ok. 'Cause if something ever happens to her, I'll never be able to forgive myself.
David: I think we'll have another round. Should I order some food?
Cara: No, thank you.
David: Just the drinks.
Bartender: Of course.
David: You do know that it's not a good idea to get bombed on an empty stomach, right?
Cara: Thanks, Doc. Why don't you tell me a little bit more about you and Dixie. Was it always one-sided?
David: No. There was a time when Dixie had genuine feelings for me. Of course, that got Dumbo's blood boiling. A random affair, he probably could have gotten over that. An affair with me, forget it. Dixie never lived it down. Made her less human in that idiot's eyes. Or at least less worthy of being a sainted Martin, which is really hypocrisy at its best, considering that Tad was notorious for sleeping around.
Cara: I heard. "Tad the cad."
David: Oh! So he regaled you with his tales of his glory days, huh? Thank you.
Bartender: You're very welcome.
David: I'm sure you thought it was cute, considering that the two of you are still in your honeymoon phase, right?
Cara: Actually, we technically didn't qualify.
David: Really? So being married to Tad wasn't a non-stop joyride?
Cara: That's not what I meant.
David: Wow. This is getting interesting.
Cara: Ok, just forget I said anything.
David: No, wait a minute. This was your idea. You wanted to talk about love and marriage, right? So go ahead, spill.
Cara: Ok. Uh -- wasn't a real marriage, not in the traditional sense. It's a lie.
Kendall: Sorry. You must be wondering why I look like this. I know I should be on cloud nine, and I am.
Kendall: Zach finally told me what happened on the plane or what he actually remembers.
Griffin: Must have been hard to hear.
Kendall: I'm sure it was a lot harder to have actually lived it. Anyway, this is me, sucking it up. Zach is home, and that's all that matters.
Griffin: I can name a couple other things.
Kendall: I'm gonna get a water. Do you want anything?
Griffin: I just want you to be happy.
Kendall: Thank you.
Griffin: Okey-dokey. Ahem. Your vitals look good. Just gonna run another course of bloodwork, make sure the infection's on its way out.
Zach: What's going on between you and my wife?
Greenlee: Hi. Did Ryan make it up here yet? I told him I'd meet him in Zach's room.
Kendall: I told Ryan to lay off of Zach, especially when it comes to David.
Greenlee: Don't worry. He gets it. Are you ok?
Kendall: Why does everybody keep asking me that?
Greenlee: Maybe because it looks like you're about to jump out of your skin.
Kendall: I keep waiting for the sun to rise and me to open my eyes and wake up and this whole thing will have just been a dream.
Greenlee: It's not. Trust me, I know.
Kendall: What does that mean?
Greenlee: When David drugged me, I had the most vivid dream. I can't even tell you how real it was.
Kendall: About what?
Greenlee: Leo. Then I woke up, and he was gone and Zach was there instead.
Kendall: Wow. That's intense.
Kendall: So, what exactly was the dream about?
J.R.: This family supports local candidates all the time.
Liza: Candidates that run their platform on fundraising ethics? Yeah, that's right. So Judge Patane probably took your little donation and now he's gonna use it against you and make you an example.
J.R.: I think you're giving our friend the judge a little bit too much credit. What I offered was more than generous.
Liza: You know what, I'm gonna see if I can go clean this up and keep this whole thing from getting thrown out.
J.R.: You do that. What?
Colby: Nice work, J.R. You just blew your last chance of getting A.J. back.
J.R.: I didn't blow anything. You'll see.
Colby: I don't know who is more delusional, you or my mother.
J.R.: Would you give Liza a break? She's making an effort. She wants to work things out with you.
Colby: She wants to work things out with my boyfriends, too. I'm very lucky --
J.R.: Would you rather have my mom, who cuts and runs any time she feels like it?
Colby: Have your issues with Dixie. That's fine, ok, but don't make it out like my mom is some sort of saint or something.
J.R.: Liza has her downfalls. We all do, but she loves you, just like I love A.J. Everybody makes mistakes.
Colby: Admitting them and saying you're sorry, J.R., is not enough. You and my mom, you're the parents, not me and A.J. At some point, you need to stop making the mistakes.
J.R.: Are you done?
Colby: No, I'm not done. And what is this? What is this, like, alcohol in your coffee or something?
J.R.: Colby --
Colby: No, J.R., you are not a loving father. You are a selfish drunk.
David: Green card marriage, huh? Wow. Tad takes a walk on the wild side.
Cara: He saved my life.
David: Hmm. I'm sure you're very grateful. Perhaps even more than that, huh? All right, you've gotta tell me. What is it that women see in that oversized gnome?
Cara: Ok, I'll tell you that this is pointless, because Tad and I were meant to be. It's time to move on.
David: Where to?
Cara: I'm gonna go underground to avoid deportation.
David: That's not the only way.
Cara: Staying married to Tad is not an option.
David: Why not? I'm sure that he'll go through the motions just to keep you alive.
Cara: He probably would, but then -- where does that leave me? I'm stuck, nose pressed against the glass, watching what I almost had. Can I tell you, the story of my life.
David: Look, I don't know you very well, but you don't strike me as an outside-looking-in kind of gal.
Cara: That's because you don't remember that I spent most of my adolescence in hospitals watching the world go by. But I'll tell you, when I beat that cancer, it was like full steam ahead for me -- college, med school. I did everything I could to make up for all that lost time.
David: But you did join Doctors Without Borders, right?
Cara: I did. I met Jake. We fell in love, and it was like -- I actually thought he was gonna be my soulmate, but -- you know, being a doctor, that came first. I made this decision, and that particular decision cost me everything, and I was back on my own again.
David: Till you landed right here in beautiful Pine Valley.
Cara: Mm-hmm. But for the first time, I actually felt like I was part of a community. I had friends. I had family. I had a parking spot at the hospital. I let myself believe the dream.
David: I'm just grateful there were no more Martin spawn out of it. Thank you, God.
Cara: That's terrible. Until the rug was pulled right out from underneath me.
David: I suppose you despise me for that.
Cara: Saving lives? No. Tad and Kathy and Kendall, they're like some of the sweetest people I've ever known and they deserve to be happy.
David: And what about you? What do you deserve? Speaking of Dumbo --
Cara: Don't let him see me.
Tad: Where is she? Uh oh!! Cara. Where is she?
David: She's your wife. Maybe you need to keep closer tabs on her, huh?
Tad: David, don't jerk me around, ok? That's exactly what I'm doing. The cab company said they dropped her off here. Have you seen her or not?
David: As a matter of fact, I have, albeit briefly.
Tad: Did she tell you where she was headed?
David: Nope, but by the looks of it, she didn't look happy. You're welcome, by the way.
Tad: For what? What did you do now?
David: Wow, I'm shocked. Is that any way to talk about our dearly beloved Dixie?
Tad: You know, Dave, you saved her. Don't get me wrong. For that, I'm grateful. But you also scared the hell out of her. I don't know how you did that, but I intend to find out. And when I do --
Cara: Thank you.
David: Welcome. I don't think he's gonna give up anytime soon.
Cara: Well, this makes the fact that my plane's been delayed a million hours all the more infuriating, 'cause that was the airline. I don't have any place to stay.
David: I think you do. How about my place?
J.R.: You wanna taste this one, make sure it's not spiked?
Colby: Big deal, J.R. You poured out a whole cup of coffee. We both know the second I leave, you're just gonna fill it up again.
J.R.: No, I won't.
Colby: Why, because you're a changed man?
J.R.: No, because you're right. Drinking is selfish. And it's certainly not doing me any favors in the father department.
Colby: Well, neither is trying to be dad. J.R., I know things suck right now. Marissa taking A.J., it sucks, but it doesn't give you a free pass.
J.R.: I know.
Colby: Then deal with it.
Zach: You saved Kendall's life. Must have been intense.
Griffin: I've been in hairier situations than a smashed-up ambulance.
Zach: With a woman like my wife? Guess I owe you one.
Griffin: I took an oath. All I did was live up to that.
Zach: Mmm. Do you love her?
Greenlee: I love Ryan, more than anything, but this dream -- it just brought out the what-ifs. Losing Leo like that so suddenly, no good-bye.
Kendall: It's the worst feeling in the world.
Greenlee: Part of me still physically aches for him. Is that wrong?
Kendall: No, no. But Ryan. Ryan is your present and your future. It doesn't erase the past. I mean, you lost Leo too early.
Greenlee: Just like Gillian.
Kendall: Gillian? Where did that come from? Did David say something about her?
Greenlee: No, but he's hinted.
Kendall: Do you think it's true?
Greenlee: I don't know. I haven't told Ryan.
Kendall: Why not?
Greenlee: When David started bringing Leo up, teasing that he could be alive, it's all I could think about. It's why I went off with David, even though I knew it could be dangerous. Because if there was a chance I could even see Leo again, I was gonna take it. And then when it happened, when I saw that smile, those eyes, the love I felt in that moment, Kendall, I swear I drowned in it. And what if Ryan --
Kendall: What if Ryan experiences the same thing with Gillian?
Kendall: So what?
Greenlee: So what?
Kendall: So what? You just said that the feeling you had it doesn't matter because Ryan is the man that you love. That's what you just said. Why would he feel any different?
Ryan: Hey. What did I just walk in on?
Greenlee: I'm fine. It's just every time I come here it hits me again. Zach's here. He's alive.
Kendall: Yeah, I'm the one who's supposed to be a basket case, but she's right there with me.
Ryan: You sure you're ok?
Greenlee: Now that you're here, I'm great.
Zach: You used to talk a lot more when we first met.
Griffin: I'm just trying to do my job.
Zach: And I'm trying to get some answers.
Griffin: You're back. Whatever I felt for Kendall doesn't matter anymore. I'll put a rush on this bloodwork.
Tad: Hey, Griff.
Tad: Have you seen Cara?
Griffin: No. Why? What's up?
Tad: It's a long story. Unfortunately, I think she's gonna head out of town.
Griffin: I'll check around. I'll see what I can find.
Tad: Ok, listen, I'm gonna head over to Krystal's, see if she stopped in over there. If you hear anything, it's important. Ok? You call me.
Griffin: I will. Yeah, yeah.
J.R.: What happened? You speak with Judge Patane?
Liza: Yeah, I did, and it is just like I thought. Your little plan there, it backfired. You're gonna lose your son, J.R.
Cara: So, what's with the hotel room?
David: I had a few houses since I've been here, but they never felt like a home.
David: I don't know. Maybe because the not-so-fine citizens of Pine Valley haven't exactly welcomed me with open arms.
Cara: You're still here.
David: Yes, I am. Guess I'm a glutton for punishment, huh? Can't seem to let go of the place.
Cara: Or maybe you're just trying to prove yourself to those not-so-fine residents of Pine Valley.
David: Maybe. No, definitely. It's part of the reason why I started Project Orpheus. I thought that if I can dazzle them with my miracles that they would be able to see the error of their ways and let me in, including my daughter. Those doors aren't exactly flying open now, are they? Can I get you a drink?
Cara: That would be great, yeah.
David: It's unbelievable. No matter how many people I save, how many miracles I perform --
Cara: You always feel like you're on the outside looking in. It bothers you, doesn't it, not being accepted?
David: Yes. Yes, it does. You're surprised.
Cara: Yeah. I really didn't think you cared what other people thought of you.
David: Because I'm a cold, heartless bastard, right?
Cara: I didn't say that.
David: Well, everyone else has. Believe me, I've made my mistakes, made some very poor decisions. But I've also done unbelievable, incomparable good.
Cara: It's hard to shake a bad rep.
David: Yeah, right. Try impossible.
Cara: Well, people are in shock, you know. Give it time. Let the reality sink in.
David: Yeah, right. You're kidding yourself. Trust me, it's only gonna get worse before it gets better. Before long, the elation is gonna die down, and I'm no longer gonna be the genius who saved Zach and Dixie. I'm gonna be the monster who kept them from their families, kept it a secret.
[Cell phone rings]
Cara: Excuse me.
Cara: My brother.
David: Aren't you gonna answer it?
Cara: And say what?
David: You don't have to tell them where you are, but at least let them know that you're safe.
David: Trust me, that phone isn't gonna stop ringing until you do.
Kendall: Ryan loves you.
Greenlee: I know.
Kendall: Then why are you freaking out about this?
Greenlee: Because every time that our relationship starts to do well again, something comes along and knocks us down. Annie. David. Madison.
Greenlee: Statute of limitations -- you're now exempt.
Kendall: Thank you.
Greenlee: To even think of another threat looming --
Kendall: Gillian is not a threat, ok? If there even is a Gillian.
Greenlee: She was so beautiful. The way his eyes lit up when she walked into a room. How can I compete with that? I never could.
Kendall: All right, listen to me. You and Ryan have had a lot of hard times, more than I can count. But the fact is, you guys always pick yourselves back up. The two of you are so strong together. Don't ever forget that.
Griffin: Hey, I checked her locker. It's empty. I keep calling her cell. She doesn't pick up.
Tad: She wouldn't do this, right? She wouldn't risk everything -- her freedom, her life -- just to stay away from me.
Griffin: I hate to admit it, but I've known my sister to do crazier.
[Cell phone rings]
Griffin: It's her. Cara?
Cara: Hey. What's up?
Griffin: What's up? Where are you?
Cara: I'm still in Pine Valley.
Griffin: Listen, everybody's worried about you, especially Tad.
Cara: You can tell everyone I'm fine. I love you.
Griffin: Cara -- she hung up.
Cara: You're right. Everyone's worried.
David: Maybe now they'll worry a little less. Although, frankly, I don't think Tad has much of a leg to stand on. He didn't seem too concerned about you when he spent the night out with Dixie. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that.
Cara: Ah, it's the truth, right?
David: I thought you might like to get some rest before your flight.
David: You're welcome.
Cara: I know you think everyone hates you in this town, but -- I don't think it's true.
David: Oh, no? Name one person, aside from my daughter, and even that's debatable.
Ryan: How you feeling?
Zach: I get better looking every day. What can I say?
Ryan: I've been thinking a lot about the plane crash, specifically what happened right after the plane crash.
Zach: Go on.
Ryan: How did Hayward just happen to be there?
Bianca: You can't go to court on an empty stomach. Come on. You want me to do the airplane, do you?
Marissa: The airplane?
[Cell phone rings]
Marissa: Oh, sorry. Stop it. Wait! Hello? Caleb, I'm not late, am I? What? Are you serious? No, no. Thank you for telling me. I will talk to you soon. J.R. tried to bribe the judge. Yeah, I know. And shocker -- the judge wasn't too pleased about it.
Marissa: So, this hearing is just a formality. He's giving me full custody of A.J.
Bianca: That's amazing.
Marissa: For me, it is.
Bianca: You're worried about J.R.
Marissa: What is he doing?
Liza: We have to leave now or we're going to be late.
J.R.: I'm not going.
Colby: J.R., you have to go. We have to be there. You have --
J.R.: Why? So I can watch my son be ripped away from me?!
Colby: J.R., I know that you're upset, ok?
J.R.: That's not gonna happen! I don't care what I have to do. My son is not gonna be raised by two lesbians.
Ryan: We can take Hayward down together, you and me.
Kendall: You guys playing nice?
Zach: I'm good. You good?
Ryan: Yeah, be better if I knew you were on board with this.
Greenlee: On board with what?
Zach: Ryan was just about to share his plan of taking down Hayward. And I was just about to tell him that he's way off base. He's the one who brought me back to my wife and my kids.
Ryan: And how that came to be, that's no concern of yours?
Zach: I'm breathing because of David Hayward, so I'm gonna stand by him -- whatever he needs, whenever he needs it. And if you or anybody else has a problem with it, you make sure you let me know about it.
Tad: I guess. I can't blame Cara for not wanting to talk to me. I should be thankful she got in touch with someone. Just tell me your sister's not gonna do something crazy, something that puts her life in danger.
David: If you need something to sleep in, I have some extra shirts.
Cara: Uh, I'm surprised that you're uncomfortable hearing that someone actually likes you.
David: I believe the exact term was "doesn't hate." That is not exactly on par with "like."
Cara: Ok. I will rephrase it, then. I like you, David.
David: That's a very lonely club.
Cara: Well, I'm used to being alone. Remember? When I met you, when I was sick, I, um -- you were this force. You were brilliant, yet empathetic, and I was impressed. I still am.
David: Hmm. Well, I have no doubt that you will be joining forces with the masses before long, demanding me drawn and quartered.
Cara: Maybe, but I don't think so.
