Jack: Hey, Kendall.
Jack: So what are you doing here? You waiting for Griffin?
Jack: I thought you two were together, no?
Kendall: Yeah, so did I. Better that I find out now, right?
Jack: Oh. I'm sorry.
Kendall: No, it's fine. Griffin and I were together for, like, a second. I'm sorry. I don't know what I'm doing complaining to you after all the hell you've been through with my mom.
Jack: Your mother's been through a hell of her own. I believe Erica's story.
Jack: Yes. I'm trying to find this Jane, so I can corroborate it.
Kendall: After everything that she's done, you will never stop believing in her. You will never stop fighting for Mom.
Jack: No. I guess you don't feel like fighting for Griffin, huh?
Kendall: I did. And he blew it.
Griffin: Hey. How was Palo Alto? I got a phone call from an old med school pal of mine who told me you were at Stanford asking questions about me.
Ryan: Right now it's David Hayward against the world. Ok? He'll even tell you that himself. You've chosen what side you're on.
Griffin: Oh, I have, and it's not Hayward's.
Nurse: Miss, visiting hours are over.
David: Nurse, it's all right. Thank you. Don't get me wrong. I'm flattered that you're so eager to see me, but I really am quite tired.
Greenlee: You promised you'd take care of me.
David: And I have every intention of doing exactly that -- as soon as I'm well and back on my feet.
Greenlee: I can't wait that long. I'm afraid I'll end up in a hospital bed before you get out of yours.
David: Numbness in your legs still?
Greenlee: Yeah, but it's getting worse. I can't not walk again, David. You can't let me die.
David: Hey. How about a little confidence, all right? I've cheated death for you once already, but it's not just some magic pill I can prescribe. There's a procedure, and I'm the only one who can do it.
Greenlee: You said I have to go away with you.
David: That's right. It's the only way.
Cara: Tad, let's go!
Tad: No, you're serious? I mean, you and me go away? We're talking about a road to a real beach? We're not talking about some yoga mat on the living room floor or someplace you can just walk away when you open your eyes? It's -- just you and me. You sure you want to do this? Because you know we'll be stuck together.
Cara: I'm good with that. Are you good with that? Because if you're not, speak now or forever hold -- you know what I was thinking, actually? Yeah, we'll meditate. I can get that yoga mat -- [Kiss]
Tad: I'm in.
Erica: No, no, you can't do this. Annie is the one who belongs in isolation, not me. I'm Erica Kane.
Nurse: Oh -- come on. Let's go.
Erica: Oh, my God. That's Dixie. But you're dead!
Nurse: Let's go.
Erica: No, you don't understand. That is Dixie Martin. But how can she be dead if she's here?
Nurse: Maybe that's something you'll have to discuss with your doctor, dear. Maybe he can give you something for it. Let's go.
Erica: Please! You have to let me out of here! I saw her! That woman is Dixie Martin! Or am I crazy? No. Everyone thinks she's dead. I just have to tell them that Dixie is alive! Oh, thank God. Thank God someone in this loony bin has some sense.
Janet: I've been telling them that for years, but maybe finally you can get some of them to listen.
Erica: Janet, that woman is Dixie Martin.
Janet: Erica, really? You're never gonna get out of here if you see dead people.
Jack: You know I'm crazy about your mother, or maybe I'm just crazy. All I can tell you is that if I ended up in an adjoining room with her at Oak Haven, it would be just fine with me.
Kendall: Jack, I want to believe her, I really do, but this story is so completely out there.
Jack: Yes, it is. Well, maybe I am crazy, or maybe I just wanted the woman who told me she didn't love me to not be the woman that I love so much.
Kendall: All right, the one thing that I know, whether my mother is sane or not, is that her heart belongs to you.
Jack: And not David Hayward?
Kendall: No, no. Ok? In my opinion -- and I know you didn't ask -- but when Mom stabbed David, that proves how sane she really is. The day that she said that she was in love with him -- that was the day she should've been committed.
Jack: No argument from me on that account, believe me. The first step is to get your mother out of Oak Haven.
Kendall: You are never gonna give up on her, are you?
Jack: I couldn't even if I wanted to. You sure you want to give up on Griffin?
Kendall: He doesn't trust me. And he is working on something with David.
Kendall: I don't know. He won't tell me, but I am sure it has got to be awful.
Jack: I'm sure.
Kendall: I know Griff, and I know that his intentions have got to be good. So why won't he trust me with that?
Jack: Probably just trying to protect you. You can't fault him for that.
Tad: So why are we standing here? Let's go back to the house, let's throw a toothbrush and a bikini in an overnight bag and get the hell out of here.
Cara: That's great.
Tad: I have a very old, dear friend who's got the most beautiful house in Martha's Vineyard. It's amazing, and we can get my ma and Krystal to look after the girls.
Cara: I've always wanted to go to Cape Cod.
Tad: You have no idea. It is the most romantic place in the world. It's got a view of the bay. It's got its own private beach. We could be eating lobster by this evening, by sunset.
Cara: It is perfect. And I've got some days at the hospital saved up, so we can -- yes, we can leave right now.
Tad: It's not Pine Valley.
Cara: Don't get me wrong. I love it here. I really do.
Tad: But it has a lot of memories --
Cara: And people --
Tad: That we love.
Cara: Of course. My brother --
Tad: The girls --
Cara: We'll miss them.
Tad: That's what post cards are for.
Cara: And souvenirs.
Tad: And it's gonna be just you and me --
Cara: Making new memories.
Tad: Ok, forget the bikini.
Cara: What --
Tad: It's vibrating.
Cara: It's ok.
Tad: No, it's not. I mean, whoever it is, it's not as important as what we're doing right now.
Cara: Check it. It's ok. It's fine.
Tad: Are you sure?
Tad: It's Marissa, which means it's probably about J.R. Yeah, hello? He did -- when? I know. I have it. Thanks for calling.
Cara: What happened?
Tad: It's J.R. He got drunk and stole Bianca's car.
Cara: Is he ok?
Tad: They don't know yet.
Cara: Ok. Why don't you go and find him, ok? Really, because the beach -- that's not going anywhere.
Brot: Hey, Tad. We found Bianca's car.
Brot: Wrapped around a tree.
Tad: And J.R.?
Brot: There's no sign of him.
J.R.: Whose dumb idea was it to put a tree right in the middle of the road anyhow? There's no Mom around. I guess I'll be drinking all by myself. That's fine by me. Ohh.
Babysitter: Did I get enough sunscreen on you? Your mommy and Bianca had some trouble with Bianca's car. We'll have lots of fun, ok?
A.J.: With this kite?
Babysitter: Yeah. We'll see if we can get it to fly.
A.J.: Ok. Cool.
Babysitter: I think the wind's picking up. Ready? You got to run fast. Ok, go.
Griffin: It started as stem cell research on lab rats. But in the past few weeks, I've learned that David's used this treatment on human subjects.
Greenlee: Yes. I knew he saved her life, but I didn't think it was Orpheus. I didn't know that until he talked about raising the dead.
Ryan: So are you saying that there are others?
Griffin: Dr. Maria Santos for one.
Ryan: Maria? This goes back that far?
Ryan: Anyone else?
Griffin: I don't know their names. But from the way that David is taking his work so personally, keeping every last detail about his patients secret, I think everyone that David saved is someone he knows, and I think they're from right here in Pine Valley.
David: As soon as I'm strong enough, I'll take you to a private clinic.
Greenlee: The same place as before?
David: No. But it has all the same equipment.
David: You don't have to worry about that. You'll be comfortable there. I'll give you back your life, again, and you'll live for a very long time. I promise.
Greenlee: This isn't just about a cure to you, is it?
David: What else could it possibly be about?
Greenlee: You getting me alone.
David: Now, that sounds like Ryan talking. Only he's not the one with the health issue, is he? Perhaps you'd be better off listening to someone who's already been where you've been, someone who knows exactly what you're going through.
Greenlee: And who would that be, David? There was someone else in that room with me, wasn't there? My symptoms have kept me up at night. But when I finally do fall asleep, I almost always dream -- at least, I think it's a dream.
David: What are they about?
Greenlee: I'm in the room where you treated me, but I'm not alone.
David: Of course, you weren't. I was right there by your side.
Greenlee: No, it's not you that I see.
David: Ok. Then it was Nurse Gayle?
Greenlee: No, no, it's not her. It's blurry. It's just someone on a gurney. You have to tell me, David. Was I the only one there, or was there another patient?
Griffin: Stem cells are unique in that they have the ability to divide and differentiate into any type of tissue. Early work focused on blood diseases.
Ryan: Leukemia. I've read some of that research.
Griffin: Right. And there has been promise in the area of spinal cord injuries.
Ryan: Like with Greenlee?
Griffin: Right. But David has taken it even further. When the heart stops, heart and organ tissue die. If the damage is extensive enough, then resuscitation becomes impossible.
Ryan: So what you're talking about is bringing people back from the dead.
Griffin: I know this sounds like science fiction, but the potential has always been there. It just took someone like David Hayward to make that happen.
Ryan: No wonder the guy thinks he's God. So essentially what you're saying is all the people that we think are dead could still be alive?
Griffin: That's why I couldn't confide in Kendall.
Ryan: You think one of the people Hayward saved might be Zach.
Babysitter: Oh, man, there it goes!
A.J.: Whoa! Look at it! Aw, we lost it.
Babysitter: It's ok. I'll go get it. You just wait right here for me, ok?
A.J.: Ok. Get it, get it!
Brot: All right, Tad, we have people out there looking for him. He's gonna be fine, but we'll keep you posted. Ok?
Tad: I appreciate it. I'm just gonna have to turn J.R. over to the very capable hands of the Pine Valley Police Department. So why don't we just strap my surfboard on top of the car and turn our fortunes over to the GPS in the car, which will take us right to the Cape of Cod.
Cara: Wait a minute. Hold on a second. I know that there's a part of you that wants J.R. to hit rock bottom no matter how hard, no matter how --
Tad: How in the bottom is he supposed to hit?
Cara: Just stop for a second, please? And I know there's another part of you that wants to be there to catch him now that he's falling. So go find him.
Janet: So, anyway, I said to Ralph --
Janet: Ralph is the orderly that's sweet on me -- not that I've encouraged him much. Anyway --
Erica: What in the world has this got to do with Dixie Martin?
Janet: Oh, you're still rambling on about ghosts?
Erica: No, Dixie is alive. She's in that room.
Janet: I haven't seen any ghosts.
Erica: Dixie is not a ghost. She's here, but no one knows about it. Look, I know you have a very complicated relationship with Dixie Martin, but something is going on, something huge. I need to talk to her.
Janet: Ralph says --
Erica: Oh, please. No more about Ralph.
Janet: Even if he could get you in to see Dixie?
Erica: Ralph can do that?
Janet: Ralph has keys.
Erica: Of course, he does. Would you ask him to do that for me?
Janet: Ralph would do anything for me if I asked, but I have one condition. You and I, we're friends.
Janet: Friends for life. Deal?
Greenlee: You're toying with me now, but this isn't a game. My life is on the line. You're gonna talk to me, and you're gonna give it to me straight. There was someone else, wasn't there?
David: If there was, why would I tell you about it?
Greenlee: Oh, David. No matter how hard you try, you're unable to choke down your utter joy at me being dependent on you for anything, let alone something as important as this.
David: And here I thought I was doing a pretty good job hiding it.
Greenlee: Come on, David. How much do you love that I need you, and that I'm desperate enough to ask for your help?
David: You admitting to desperation? Now, Greenlee, you wouldn't be trying to play me, would you?
Greenlee: If you've cured others, then you curing me the first time wasn't a fluke, and I'd be more likely to put myself in your care a second time.
David: Nothing I ever do is based on luck.
Greenlee: What you did was nothing short of a miracle, and if you could repeat that, you'd want the whole world to know and fall at your feet. But for some reason, you can't go public yet. But you can brag to me about it, knowing that I have everything to lose. Literally.
Greenlee: "Yes" what?
David: The answer to your question. There was someone else in that room.
David: Someone very near and dear. Someone taken from us way too soon.
Greenlee: David. You don't mean --
Nurse: You'll have to leave now. Dr. Hayward needs his rest.
David: That is perfect timing, Nurse. I've been telling her the same thing.
Greenlee: David, you can't just --
David: No more questions today, Greenlee. You're a smart woman. You'll know everything soon enough.
Kendall: Why are you here? And why do I get the feeling that I'm the subject of this conversation that I just walked in on?
Ryan: Um, you guys could probably use some time alone. I'm gonna go meet Greenlee anyway. So just lock up when you leave, ok?
Kendall: Well, whatever it is you and Ryan were talking about, I know better than to get it from you. So I'm just gonna follow Ryan's lead, and I'm gonna go.
Griffin: Kendall, wait. You and I, we have a lot to talk about.
Kendall: This sharing usually only goes one way, so I'm done.
Griffin: Then why don't I start? I'm done working with David Hayward. I'm ready to tell you everything. No more secrets. No more holding back.
A.J.: You find it?
Babysitter: Yeah. Over here.
Tad: Don't -- even think about it.
Tad: Grabbing A.J.
J.R.: He's my son.
Tad: That doesn't give you the right to ruin his life.
J.R.: I just want to tell him that I was sorry.
Tad: No, you don't, J.R. You want to try to keep him away from Marissa and start turning him into your father. And as far as I'm concerned, you're already far enough down that road.
J.R.: I would never wish that upon anyone, especially not A.J. It doesn't matter anyhow. He's gone.
Tad: I promised your mother I'd keep an eye on you. That's a promise I intend to keep.
Janet: Thanks, Ralph.
Ralph: Your friend has five minutes.
Janet: Friend for life.
Erica: Hello? Dixie? No. Oh, no, I'm not gonna hurt you. Oh, my God. It really is you. It's -- it's me, Erica Kane. Don't you recognize me?
J.R.: Here. Why don't you throw it away, then?
Tad: I got a better idea. Why don't you throw it away? I'm tired of cleaning up after your mess.
J.R.: You just told me that you swore to Mom you would do just that.
Tad: No. I told you I promised your mother I'd look after you, and I've done that -- at least, I've tried to. But ultimately, your life, what happens to you, is in your hands, not mine. You're the only one that can save it.
J.R.: You must've forgot who you're talking to. I'm J.R. Chandler, not some drunk in a park.
Tad: It's getting kind of hard to tell the difference.
J.R.: I'm just saying I'm not some nobody.
Tad: You're on your way. Believe me, you're on your way. You got loaded again, drove a stolen car into a tree. Wow. No, you're somebody, all right. I hope you got a good look at your son just now.
J.R.: Is that some sort of threat?
Tad: Damn right it is. Because if you can't see that little boy as reason enough to get yourself together, then eventually you're not gonna be able to see him at all. You want to be in his life, watch him grow up? Then you be somebody he can look up to. Either that or you better reconcile yourself to watching him grow up from a distance. I promise you. I'm gonna go take him home, all right, leave you to whatever life you choose to live.
Ryan: Wow. That's some welcome, considering I was only gone about a day.
Greenlee: Yeah. Some day, though.
Ryan: Why? What happened?
Greenlee: I just came from seeing David.
Ryan: Ok. And what happened? Did he figure out that you were faking your symptoms?
Greenlee: No. I've got him believing that I need him.
Ryan: Great. He's got to be loving that.
Greenlee: Tell me about your trip to California.
Ryan: Ok. David's stem cell research started on dying rats like we thought, but it did graduate to humans.
Greenlee: Including me?
Ryan: Including you. Griff confirmed it.
Greenlee: Well, we know that David's research project works. Hard to be angry at him for making me a guinea pig when it saved my life.
Ryan: Plenty of other things to be angry at him for.
Greenlee: At least Griffin's coming around. Kendall will be happy to hear that.
Ryan: Yeah. Yeah, we need all the help we can get bringing him down. What did Hayward say to you?
Greenlee: It doesn't matter.
Ryan: Of course, it matters. Did he say who else was there? Did he say who else he saved?
Kendall: This is a big step.
Griffin: For me, yeah.
Kendall: I'm so happy that you're done with David. But I'm even happier that you've decided that you can trust me. Griffin, there is nothing that you could tell me that would change the way I feel about you.
David's Voice: What's the matter, Griff? Afraid the answer might cost you Kendall? You're right to worry. It just might.
Griffin: I wish that were true. But what I have to say could mean that we're finished before we even got started.
David: I don't want excuses. I want results. Do you understand? If anybody finds out what I've been doing before I'm ready, it'll all come crashing down. Just find Dixie before anyone else does.
Erica: Dixie, how long have you been here? Dixie, everyone thinks you're dead. How -- here I am. I'm peppering you with all sorts of questions, and you have no idea who or even where you are, do you? We'll help each other. I'll get you somewhere where you can be treated -- to the hospital.
Dixie: No! No, no! David!
Cara: You got this off the ground?
Tad: Out of a tree.
Cara: Ha ha! Are you starving? Do you want a hot fudge sundae or something? Does that sound good? Yeah?
Tad: Go on.
Tad: He's no better than the kite.
Cara: What happened?
Tad: Basically, I just did the hardest thing I've ever done in my entire life.
[J.R. throws his empty liquor bottle into a trash can in the park]
Gordo: [Chuckles] That's the saddest sound you ever heard -- sound of an empty bottle. Always one to share the wealth. You want some?
Greenlee: Let's just go home.
Ryan: No, no, no. I know that look. David got to you, and I need to know how.
Greenlee: I'm tired. Where you going?
Ryan: I'm gonna go see David. Because if you're not gonna tell me what he did to you, then I'm gonna go to the source and someway I'm gonna get it out of him.
Greenlee: No, wait, wait, wait. Ok. David wants to take me away. He said that my condition requires a procedure, that he's the only one qualified to do it.
Ryan: Because it's illegal and nobody even knows it exists.
Greenlee: I said no.
Ryan: Good. Griff and I will stop Hayward. You can steer clear from him.
Greenlee: I can't.
Ryan: You want to tell me why not?
Kendall: Trust me enough to know that whatever is going on with David will not come between us. Come here. Come sit.
Griffin: When I first met you, you were suffering from a broken heart, and I'm not talking about the medical condition. Life had dealt you a crummy hand, and you were sad, depressed, angry -- angry to the point that you stood in a man's room with a pillow, ready to take his life.
Kendall: If I had known then what I know now --
Griffin: Ok, ok. Let's just say that you were in a bad place.
Kendall: I was.
Griffin: I saw you come out of that place. I saw you get stronger. And very quickly, sooner than I'd like to admit, I came to admire that strength.
Kendall: I am so thankful for that. But what does any of that have to do with David?
Griffin: Kendall, I hope it's obvious that I care about you. And you were so hurt, and you healed so quickly that I don't want to open up old wounds.
Kendall: All right. Ok. You're starting to scare me a little bit. What did David do?
Griffin: You know David saved Greenlee's life.
Griffin: And Maria Santos.
Kendall: Yeah. Everybody thought that they were dead.
Griffin: Yeah. But if he was able to bring them back, he could probably bring back someone else.
Erica: Dixie, why are you so afraid of David Hayward? Does he have something to do with your being here? Tell me, Dixie, what did David do to you?
[Dixie cries and screams]
Ralph: Who let you in here? Let's go. Out.
Erica: Dixie, David did this to me, too! Janet, you have to get me in to see Dixie again. She knows something about David Hayward. I have to find out what it is.
Janet: I can't.
Erica: Janet, you have to.
Janet: You made Ralph mad. He said five minutes -- that is 300 seconds. I counted, and you went over.
Erica: Could you please stop talking like a crazy person for just one minute and help me make sense of this?
Janet: All right. If you're going to start with the name-calling, then you can go ahead and find some other crazy person to help you find and talk to people who can't stay dead.
Erica: Janet? Janet!
[Dixie taps on the wall of her cell]
Erica's voice: What's that?
Erica: Is there something on the other side? Is someone there?
Ben: No one's there. It's under control.
Erica: Dixie? Dixie, was that you in the quarry? Dixie? Are you in the next room?
Cara: My mom used to tell me that sometimes we have to love people differently than they're used to.
Tad: Well, aside from the fact that she detests me, Mother Castillo sounds like a wise woman. And she's right. I told J.R. The only person that could figure out how to live his life is J.R. It's high time I let him do it, no matter how frightening that is. In the meantime, I'll get busy trying to figure out how to live mine. And you know what that means?
Tad: Martha's Vineyard, here we come.
J.R.: I don't drink with strangers.
Gordo: You ever been to a bar? It's full of strangers. What, you got someplace to be? You got to run a business, a family to go home to? Me neither. Take a load off and get loaded. Heh heh heh!
J.R.: What's your name?
Gordo: I'm Gordo, but I ain't nobody.
J.R.: Yeah. I ain't nobody either.
Gordo: To being nobody. Ha ha ha!
Griffin: Is it your heart? Here.
Kendall: My heart?
Griffin: No, let me check.
Kendall: No, no, no, no, no! Did David tell you that? Did he tell you that Zach was alive?
Griffin: He implied the possibility.
Kendall: No. No. David can't have that power over me. Zach is dead.
Griffin: Greenlee and Maria Santos are alive. If there was the slightest chance that Zach was, too, I had to tell you.
Kendall: There is no chance, ok? There is none! My husband is dead. He is dead. Do you hear me? David can't torture me with that.
Griffin: Kendall, please, let me just -- just sit.
Kendall: No, no! Just leave.
Griffin: I couldn't keep silent, even if it means you hate me.
Kendall: Damn you, David. Damn you.
Greenlee: I told David about my dream.
Ryan: The one where you weren't alone in that room? But it wasn't a dream, was it?
Ryan: David confirmed that you weren't the only one?
Greenlee: He said it was someone close to me -- and to him, someone taken from us too soon.
Ryan: Leo. That son of a bitch certainly knows what buttons to push. No wonder you were so upset when I came in.
[As she hugs Ryan, Greenlee recalls being with Leo]
