Kendall: You -- you left. You're supposed to be in Chile. Why are you here?

Griffin: Why are you at the hospital?

Kendall: My heart rate was up, but I'm fine now.

Griffin: Sure you are. Come here.

Ben: If Jane came back and found you with any type of recorder, she'd destroy it.

Erica: But since she already had all that equipment in there to record and study me, why not put it to good use? It's a brilliant idea.

Erica's voice: What do you think?

[Beeping]

Ben: All right, you're recording. You can begin whenever you're ready.

Erica: The dictation of my new memoir. The title is "Erica Kane: Uncensored." I will reveal everything there is to know about me. No holding back. But first, some inspiration.

Amanda: Hey, do you have my test results?

Cara: Not yet. I know you're anxious.

Amanda: This can't be happening. I cannot have an STD.

[Door closes]

[Door latch clicks]

Angie: I'm early for my appointment, actually.

Nurse: Dr. Hayward should be here soon. He said you can wait here until he arrives.

Angie: Ok, thank you.

[Tapping cane]

David: What are you doing here? You're supposed to be out of town at a spa.

Jane: People were asking me too many questions. I wanted them off my back, so I lied.

David: That wasn't a very good idea. What if someone saw you come back?

Jane: They didn't. I was careful.

David: Sneaking into my bed? That's not careful. That's as risky as it gets.

Jane: I couldn't leave, David. Couldn't leave you.

Erica: I've written 3 books, each of them a bestseller. The first, "Raising Kane," is about a small-town girl with big-time dreams and how she made those dreams come true. Then I wrote "Erica Kane: Beyond the Pain," which explored the darker side of celebrity, the obstacles I encountered, such as addiction, and the tools I used to overcome them. My most recent book, "Having It All," is kind of a how-to book on life, the dos and the don'ts according to a woman who has done practically everything. But now, now I want to dig deeper. I want to show the woman behind the ambition and the fame, a woman who was first a child, a child who was hurt deeply.

Griffin: Your heart rate is back to normal, but just in case, I want to run some tests.

Kendall: That's not necessary.

Griffin: I don't think you're a cardiologist.

Kendall: What is going on with you?

Griffin: Do me a favor. Would you take a deep breath, please?

Kendall: You know what, you're not my doctor anymore. You found your replacement, remember?

Griffin: Fine. I'll go get him.

Kendall: Why? Why? You said my heart rate was fine and back to normal.

Griffin: Why was it elevated in the first place?

Kendall: I got worked up for a minute.

Griffin: How come?

Kendall: I don't know.

Griffin: That's why I'm gonna run some tests.

Kendall: All right, fine. Do whatever you want. I don't care. I just have one question.

Griffin: Go ahead.

Kendall: What the hell are you doing back in Pine Valley?

Griffin: I missed my flight.

Kendall: You missed it, or you never got on it?

Griffin: What difference does it make?

Kendall: Well, Ryan checked the manifest, so I know you weren't on board. And when no one had any idea where you were, I felt a little --

Griffin: Worried?

Kendall: No, pissed. Pissed that you would make Cara worry. It doesn't matter. I don't care. Whatever. I don't understand what you're doing back here.

Griffin: I tried to get on another flight, but there wasn't one leaving till the next day. So they put me up at the airport hotel, where I had a bunch of time to sit around and think -- about everything that's happened to me since I got here, everything I was leaving behind, things that were unfinished.

[Footsteps approaching]

Jake: You're here. I can't believe it. It's you.

Griffin: Good to see you.

Jake: The rumors are true. How long you gonna be in town? How long you gonna stick around?

Griffin: Joyce. Mrs. Slater needs a 12-lead EKG and a 2D Echo. Yeah, plus some blood fluids for a CBC and a cardiac profile. Yes, thank you.

Jake: I have no information.

Kendall: I know.

Jake: Is it your heart? Is your heart acting up?

Kendall: It was, but I'm fine now. I'm fine, however, Dr. Overprotective here wants to run some tests.

Griffin: The nurse will be back to draw your blood.

Jake: Yeah. Excuse me. Talk to you?

Griffin: Can it wait? I have to see Mr. Lawrence in the CICU.

Jake: I wish it could wait, but here's the deal. How do I say this? The doctor that I had positioned to take over your spot, I kind of got into a negotiation snafu, right? So the attending cardiac -- I have him covering most of your load.

Griffin: You put that attending on all my cases? Even Mr. Lawrence?

Jake: Do I have a choice? Did I have a choice? I didn't have a -- choice.

Amanda: J.R. and I are here for a business dinner.

[Cell phone rings]

J.R.: That's the office. I'll be right back. This is J.R.

Woman: Here you go.

Cara: Oh, thanks. You can keep the change.

Woman: All right.

Cara: I gotta get back to the hospital. I will call you as soon as I get those results.

Amanda: This is just between us.

Cara: I would never violate doctor-patient confidentiality.

Amanda: If I knew this was gonna be anything more than a yes or no pregnancy test, I would have never asked you anything. But now that you already know, I don't want anyone else at the hospital in on my business or my boss.

Cara: Ok.

Amanda: So if this is an STD, what would that mean?

Cara: Let's just not jump the gun, ok? Could be something else.

Amanda: Like what?

Cara: Like a mild infection.

J.R.: Ahem. You ready?

Amanda: Yeah.

Cara: I'll talk to you soon.

Amanda: I brought a draft of the press release. Well, I know it's in here somewhere.

J.R.: Ok, what's going on with you?

Amanda: Nothing. I'm fine.

J.R.: You don't look so hot.

Amanda: Thanks.

J.R.: Are you still feeling sick?

Amanda: No, I'm fine.

J.R.: You're lying. What did Cara say to you?

David: Believe me, there's nothing I'd rather do right now than to jump into bed with you.

Jane: So then, what's the problem?

David: As I said, the huge risk you took in coming back here.

Jane: 'Cause I had to see you, I had to be with you.

David: I want to be with you just as much, but I certainly don't want you to lose everything you worked so hard for. And that's exactly what's gonna happen if anyone suspects for a moment that you're not really Erica.

Jane: They are already so suspicious, because I spent the night here with you the other night. Kendall confronted me, and she asked me all sorts of questions. I told her I was with you all night, because we were working on hospital business.

David: Right, right.

Erica: And Jack is definitely worried. He's left me so many voice mails that, my goodness --

David: All right, ok. Ok, listen to me. Listen to me, ok? Let's just hope Lavery's spies didn't watch you, see you come in here.

Jane: Oh, to hell with them. Make love to me, David.

David: I am on your side, Jane. You have to know that. All right? But we can't do this. Not here, not now. So I'm sorry, but you have to leave. Come on.

Jane: You're kicking me out?

David: No, I'm not kicking you out. I have a very important appointment at the hospital right now. Let me just look outside, make sure the coast is clear, then you can leave.

Jane: I'm important, too. You can't just toss me out like trash.

David: You're overreacting.

Jane: You said that what happened between us was very special.

David: It was. It was very special.

Jane: It was my first time, and it changed me. It changed all my priorities.

David: I understand, all right? It meant something to me, too. Believe me, a hell of a lot more than you will ever know, which is why I'm trying to protect you right now.

Jane: You used me. Now you're trying to get rid of me.

David: Look, let's just try to keep this calm. Just relax.

Jane: You won't get away with this. I will definitely make you pay.

David: Are you threatening me?

Jane: I'm just telling you what's gonna happen to you if you treat me like garbage. I will destroy you, and you know I can.

Angie: Who's there? Who's there?

Ryan: Angie, it's me. It's Ryan.

Angie: Ryan? What are you doing in here?

Ryan: I broke in.

Angie: Why?

Ryan: The better question is what are you doing here all by yourself, meeting Hayward without anybody else?

Angie: David is trying to help me regain my sight. Jesse said you knew.

Ryan: I do know. Why wouldn't you come with some backup?

Angie: We're still just at the talking stage.

Ryan: Personally, I can't believe that you let it go this far.

Angie: It's a risk. I'm very aware of that, and David has hurt a lot of people -- people we both care about, but he has also helped a lot of those people. He saved Greenlee's life.

Ryan: He brainwashed Greenlee, ok? He sucked her in with a bunch of lies.

Angie: He is not going to do that to me. Why did you break into David's office? What are you looking for?

Ryan: Evidence, Angie. Anything to show that there's more to this hospital sale than Hayward is letting on. He is planning something, and I think it's something pretty big. You cannot tell him that I was here, ok?

Amanda: Cara and I were just talking about family stuff.

J.R.: I know what this is about. It's about the pregnancy scare. You're still not over it yet.

Amanda: Yes, I'm still a little freaked out, but I will deal. Now can we please talk about the press release?

J.R.: No one is ever gonna find out about it now. It's over. So we can move on. We can be happy with the people that we love. Isn't that what you want?

Amanda: I want to get to work.

J.R.: I'm committed to making Marissa happy in any way possible. She wants me to be honest with her, so I've been honest. I didn't tell her that we slept together.

Amanda: Good.

J.R.: But I have been honest with her in other ways. Marissa and I, we belong together, just like you and Jake. So it's all gonna work out. You just gotta relax.

Amanda: I can't.

J.R.: Why? Everything's fine.

Amanda: Maybe.

J.R.: What does that mean?

Amanda: It means what happened between us may not be over.

J.R.: You still might be pregnant?

Amanda: No, but I may have an STD.

Griffin: You do realize that this is a big waste of my time.

Kendall: Time that you should be spending doing your community service in Chile.

Griffin: Arm? Thank you. Make a fist.

Kendall: So you never told me, never answered my question. Why did you come back here?

Griffin: I was thinking about my patients, the Lawrence case. We're really close to getting him out of the ICU.

Kendall: Ok, so when your patient is better, does that mean you'll leave?

[Footsteps approaching]

Cara: Hey! Hi! I'm Cara.

Griffin: Hey.

Cara: Oh, my God, I missed you. I'm so happy you're back.

Jake: Back in town, back on staff.

Kendall: Wait a minute. Now you're staying?

Griffin: Yeah, I just told Jake to drop the negotiations with my replacement.

Jake: Right, and I'm gonna finish the paperwork.

Kendall: Mm-hmm.

Griffin: How does it feel to be in the shadow of greatness --

Cara: Ha ha ha! Let me tell you, just watch out, ok? So -- why did you decide to come back?

Griffin: The Lawrence case. I couldn't shake it.

Cara: Oh, of course.

Nurse: Patient's crashing in the CICU.

Griffin: Will you bring that tray to the lab? Thank you.

Cara: I'm on it. My brother, he is just so dedicated to his patients.

Kendall: Yeah, no kidding.

Cara: However, that is not why he came back to Pine Valley.

Kendall: Maybe I am a small part of why Griff came back. I am one of his patients, and we all know he loves his patients.

Cara: You're upset.

Kendall: Why would I be upset?

Cara: Because my brother can be a real bonehead, that's why.

Kendall: Yeah, tell me something I don't know.

Cara: He doesn't mean to be cold. It's -- this is new for him.

Kendall: What is?

Cara: The feelings. He can't really admit to himself that he's feeling this way, let alone talk about it. He's never really been in a real relationship before.

Kendall: Oh, whoa. Griff and I -- we're not in a relationship. No.

Cara: Oh, right.

Kendall: Yeah, I gotta go.

Cara: Why don't I go find him?

Kendall: No, it's ok. I can't. I have to go.

J.R.: You do not have -- an STD. That's crazy.

Amanda: It's not crazy. I went to the hospital for a pregnancy test. They did an exam, and they found something. The doctor said that it could be an STD. I'm waiting for the test results.

J.R.: So whatever this is, you could have given it to me?

Amanda: If I have something, I got it from you.

Cara: She left.

Griffin: Oh. Should have seen that coming. I'm sure she'll be fine. What? Hmm?

Cara: I didn't say anything.

Griffin: You think I should run after her, chase her down?

Cara: You're a big boy. You make your own decisions. And coming back to Pine Valley, that was a big one.

Nurse: That was Dr. Hayward on the phone. He's going to be delayed a while longer. If you don't want to wait --

Angie: No, no, that's fine. I don't mind.

Ryan: Thank you, Angie, for not giving me up.

Angie: I don't plan to. I'm as suspicious of David as you are. He didn't buy this place out of the goodness of his heart. Give that man some power, and he uses it to destroy.

Ryan: If you believe that, then why are you letting him be your doctor, Angie?

Angie: Part of what drives David is his belief that he can work miracles. Much as we hate to admit it, he can. I want my miracle, Ryan, so that I can see my husband, my children.

Ryan: But at what cost, Angie?

Angie: I don't plan to let David work me. I'll beat him at his own game.

Ryan: How?

Angie: I know that we're going to be spending a fair amount of time together during my course of treatment. And I plan to do some deep probing, you know, in a very subtle way, of course.

[Creaking]

Ryan: I think I got something here.

Angie: What is it?

Ryan: The hinges along the side of this furnace. Uhh! One of David's secrets.

Erica: My mother's name was Mona. She passed away quite some time ago now, but I still miss her so terribly. She was a wonderful woman.

Erica: But my father -- my father was a monster. What he did to me no parent should ever do to a child. He didn't love me.

David: Do you honestly believe that I was using you?

Jane: Just admit it.

David: All right, this is very difficult for me to admit. I've been very lonely. I've been disconnected from the people I care most about for a very long time. Do you have any idea what it's like to go through life with a family that thinks that you're a monster, shunning you, ignoring you, acting like you're not even human? I sense that you do, Jane, which is why I believe you and I have such a powerful connection.

Jane: I feel that, but --

David: Ok, listen to me. I have never felt closer with anyone in my entire life. We really do understand each other, Jane, on the deepest level. And this goes so far beyond anything I've ever shared with anyone, and that includes the almighty Erica Kane.

Jane: You really mean that?

David: Yes, I do. When we made love, I felt an intimacy, a bond that I had never known before. So in a way, it was my first time, too. I guess what I'm saying is, I think I'm falling in love with you.

[Pounding on door]

Jack: Hayward, open up! I know you're in there! You're gonna tell me what you've done to Erica!

J.R.: The only thing I gave you was a job. When it ended with Annie, I went and got tested. She was so unstable, who knows who she slept with. But my results came back negative. I was completely clear.

Amanda: Are you lying to me right now?

J.R.: I can show you the paperwork.

Amanda: Ok, well, if you're ok, then I probably am, too. You are the only person I have slept with aside from my husband in a very long time.

J.R.: When was the last time you were tested for STD's?

Amanda: This was my first time.

J.R.: Ok. Well, this can go a long ways back, maybe even before Jake, maybe when you slept with Hayward.

Amanda: No. No way.

J.R.: What about Lavery's psycho brother?

Amanda: Would you stop it? I did not give you some disease.

J.R.: You better not have. Because if you did, I might have passed it to Marissa, and we just got back together.

Amanda: Would you keep your voice down? People will hear you.

J.R.: How could you do this to me?

Amanda: You could have done this to me. We don't know anything yet. And we don't even know if it's an STD. We both just need to stay calm and wait till my test results come back.

Cara: What do you mean? I just want you to acknowledge that there are other parts to life, other good parts.

Griffin: They're called eating, sleeping --

Cara: Thank you for the list. All I'm saying is I love you, and I want you around, but I'm not the only one. And if you would just put the medical charts down for just a second -- you might see that.

Jake: Oh, paperwork. It's done. You are officially reinstated. The only thing is you have to switch your community service over to Pine Valley. That's not a big deal, right? Right? Griffin?

Ryan: Damn it! I definitely can't crack this without any tools.

Angie: Most people get a new office, and they put in a couch. David puts in a hidden safe.

Ryan: Which means he's got to have a lot to hide. I hate to leave this place empty-handed. There's a bunch of boxes here that have not been opened.

Angie: Take a look.

Ryan: Just a bunch of files.

Angie: Read me the labels.

Ryan: Ok. "Clinical notes," "Laboratory results," "Consultations."

Angie: Those just sound like standard medical files.

Ryan: This one just says "P.O." That's weird. The only thing in it is a plastic key card like an access card.

Angie: Access to what?

Ryan: All it says is "Project Orpheus."

Jack: Ever since Erica has come back, you have been hounding her, badgering her, and now you've pressured her into making you a partner in this ridiculous hospital deal?

David: Erica and I are both thrilled with our new business venture. It's a shame you can't be happy for us.

Jack: She's not happy. She's exhausted, Hayward. What do you do? You take her to the hospital, and you work her like a dog all night?

David: If that's what she told you.

Jack: No, don't you do that. Don't you do that. I want you to tell me what you did to Erica. Why did she run like that?

David: All right. Jack, we had an intense night of work, all right? And that was it. When it was finished, she went home. At least I thought she went home. I had no idea that she was going to a spa. She didn't tell me that. I assumed she was going back to her fiancÚ, ok? Well, I guess she had something better to do.

Jane: That was close.

David: Yeah, a little too close. You're gonna have to get this Jackson situation under control.

Jane: Will you forget him? I'm Erica Kane. I can be with whoever I want to be.

David: You and me as a couple? Is that what you're saying? Hmm? Don't you think that's a pretty big pill for everyone to swallow right now? We have to be smart, right? It's too soon for us to reveal that we're more than just business partners. Everyone pretty much thinks there's something wrong already, right?

Jane: I'll risk it.

David: Really? And end up in jail? Didn't you already tell me what that would be like? You would be stuck in a jail cell with nothing to do but think about the daughter that you lost. Is that what you really want?

Jane: No.

David: Ok. All right. So get control of Jackson. Come on. Now go.

Erica: My father abandoned me when I was 9 years old, walked out on his wife and daughter -- my mother and me. He went to Hollywood to become a famous movie director. He always treated my mother like dirt. He lied to her, he cheated on her. I wish I could tell you that was the worst thing he ever did, but it wasn't. I wanted to hate him. I wanted to pretend that he never even existed, but I couldn't, in spite of everything. When he died, I thought finally, finally, I could find peace. I could bury the pain that had been haunting me for so many years. I was a grown woman. I was strong and successful and independent. But somewhere in me, somehow, I still needed my father to take care of me, to protect me. He didn't protect me. And I know it sounds crazy, but even today, I always expect him to show up when I'm hurt or in trouble. I expect him to just come walking in and tell me that I'm safe. Even as I look around this room, this prison -- I really would need him to tell me that I'm ok, to show me that he cares. I need my father to rescue me.

J.R.: I think we're done working today.

Amanda: What? We haven't even started.

J.R.: That can wait. I'm going home to Marissa and A.J. You're gonna call me as soon as you find out the test results are negative, and we can put this thing to bed -- rest, once and for all.

Amanda: J.R. -- oh, can you please bring me a white wine?

Woman: Sure.

Amanda: Actually, make it a vodka tonic. Thank you.

[Cell phone rings]

Amanda: Oh, my God. Hello?

Cara: It's Cara. Your test results are in.

David: Sorry I'm late.

Angie: It's all right. I was able to return some phone calls.

David: Great. And how are you feeling?

Angie: Ready to continue treatment.

David: Excellent. Then why don't we get started? I'm gonna give you some eye drops to dilate your pupils, then I want to take you down to Ophthalmology for a retinal check.

Angie: You didn't mention anything about that.

David: It's no big deal. And while we're waiting for your eyes to dilate, I'm going to have to take another sample -- skin sample.

Angie: The first one didn't work?

David: Unfortunately, no. I did warn you that we may have to take several before we get what we need.

Angie: And the retinal check. What will you be looking for?

David: Scarring from the fungal infection that caused your blindness. Depending on how extensive it is, you'll undergo a very simple procedure to help try and clear it.

Angie: What happens if it can't be cleared?

David: Why don't we just take this one step at a time, all right?

Angie: Don't patronize me, David.

David: I wasn't.

Angie: You led me to believe this was a slam dunk. Now it sounds like you're hedging your bets.

David: You're a doctor, Angela. You know as well as I do, there are no medical procedures that are slam dunks.

Angie: This one better be.

Kendall: Ok, you guys have a good time on your sleepover, all right? Give your little brother a big kiss from Mommy. I love you, guys. Have fun. Bye.

[Doorbell rings]

Jake: All right -- I'm gonna call it a night. It's been a long one. Nat, you know what to do. What is it?

Cara: What?

Jake: I thought you were gonna say something.

Cara: Oh, no. Have a good night.

Jake: Yes. Have a good night.

Cara: Good night.

Amanda: So let's hear it.

Cara: You did test positive for an STD.

Amanda: Oh, my God. Which one?

Cara: Human papillomavirus. HPV.

David: You do realize how lucky you are to even know this treatment exists.

Angie: I'll be grateful when I can see again.

David: I'm offering you a miracle, and all you're doing is throwing aggression at me. You haven't come out and threatened me yet, but I get the feeling that you could.

Angie: Oh, I definitely could.

David: Let me check your eyes now.

Angie: I'm not a lab rat, David. I'm a human being.

David: Well, contrary to public opinion, so am I.

Angie: I am trusting you with my eyes, and in return, you will give me back my sight.

David: So you still believe I can do this?

Angie: Despite all the horrible things that you have done, yes, I have put my faith in you.

[Ryan looks up Project Orpheus online and sees its symbol, which looks like two Os side by side]

Griffin: You shouldn't have run out of the hospital.

Kendall: You came over here to scold me? Why don't you go back to your patients?

Griffin: I have something to say.

Kendall: I've heard enough.

Griffin: It's important.

Kendall: Well, tell someone who cares.

Griffin: Damn it, Kendall. I came back for you.

[The jacket that Griffin drops on the floor contains a Project Orpheus access card]

Erica: I'm sorry. I didn't expect it all to come out like that on the very first day on page one. I suppose being locked up in this room this way is what made me think about my father and when he left. Being in this room makes me feel the same way I felt back then -- alone and abandoned.

Ben: Erica, are you all right?

Jack: Look, Erica, I don't know how many messages I have left, but you've got me worried now. Will you please, please, call me back?

[Door opens]

Jack: Where have you been? Why didn't you return my calls?

Erica: Make love to me, Jack.
