Cara: But I want Jake to be happy, like I'm happy with you.
Tad: Are you?
Cara: Yes. I want you to know how grateful I am. [Kisses Tad]
Tad: I want a divorce.
Cara: Are you serious?
Tad: Not a divorce -- that was a gut reaction -- but maybe a serious step back.
Tad: Because -- if this marriage is only based on gratitude, then it is seriously time for plan "B," because -- because I want a hell of a lot more than that.
Marissa: What do you mean, you had help?
J.R.: I've made so many mistakes when it's come to you, and I just wanted to make sure that I got it right.
Marissa: So us getting back together was a group effort?
J.R.: No, no. I just needed some advice.
Marissa: About me?
J.R.: I wanted to make sure you understood how much I loved you, and this person told me to trust the truth, to be honest with you always.
Scott: Oh, you're about to get honest? No way in hell I'm gonna miss this. Ahh.
Bianca: I wanted to go over plans for dedicating the Miranda Center downtown.
Kendall: I thought you had a date.
Bianca: It didn't work out.
Kendall: Oh. I'm sorry.
Bianca: Don't look at me like that. It's fine.
Kendall: All right. Whatever you say. And I wasn't looking at you "like that." I just want you to be happy.
Bianca: I'm happy. All right? I was hoping we could upload something from the center in Chile. Have you heard from Griff?
Kendall: No. Not a word.
Bianca: So I'm guessing you didn't tell him you're crazy for him?
Bianca: I didn't think so.
Kendall: Wow. Ouch.
Ryan: Hey. Have you heard from Griffin?
Kendall: Ok, can someone else please ask me a different question? I will tell you what I just told my sister: No, I have not.
Ryan: So you don't know where he is?
Kendall: As far as I know, he's in Chile for the groundbreaking ceremony.
Ryan: Yeah, I don't think he is. He never got on the plane.
Kendall: So, then, where is he?
Ryan: I don't know. That's what I'm trying to find out.
Kendall: Did you check every flight to Chile? Did you check to see if there were any problems? What if he got on some charter and something went wrong?
Bianca: Kendall, it's all right.
Kendall: No, it's not all right. Griffin should've landed safely by now.
Bianca: I know what you're thinking, but this isn't like last time. This isn't like Zach.
J.R.: My wife --
Marissa: Your ex-wife.
J.R.: And I are having a personal conversation.
Scott: Yeah. Go ahead. Continue.
J.R.: What are you doing here?
Scott: I'm rebuilding the gatehouse. Remember?
J.R.: As if the noise would ever allow me to forget. Is there a reason you have to start before 7 a.m.?
Scott: Since I'm doing most of the work myself, it's the only way I'm gonna get it done.
Marissa: No, but J.R. hired that contractor to work with you.
Scott: Oh, you mean Bruce? Yeah, a hell of a guy, except he has more no-shows than he has showing up.
J.R.: If you can't put some sticks together and build a house, maybe I should just have the place bulldozed.
Scott: No, I don't think you're gonna do that.
Marissa: Ok, wait. Round's over, all right? Look, Scott, can you give J.R. and me just a minute to talk?
Scott: Yeah. Of course. Whatever you need, but I will be right outside if you need me.
Marissa: Thank you.
J.R.: Ahem. Thank you.
Marissa: Who is it, J.R.? Who has been helping you?
J.R.: It's not like it's a surprise, since you guys are so close. It's Bianca.
Bianca: I'm sure Griff is just fine.
Kendall: I thought Zach was fine. I left him tons of messages, I had a dream that he was walking through the front door, and he was dead.
Bianca: Ok, Griff is not dead.
Kendall: Then where is he?
Ryan: He took a different flight, didn't check in with anybody here, maybe?
Kendall: This is not happening. Please, this is not happening.
Bianca: Hey, it's not. It's not happening again. I'm sure Griff just changed his plans.
Kendall: Yeah, but the whole reason for going down there and being part of the Center -- it was part of his community service. If Griff doesn't show up, he could be in trouble with the court. He could go to prison.
Ryan: Slow down, all right, because I'm sure there's a logical explanation here.
Bianca: Why are you looking for Griff?
Ryan: I'm kind of hoping that he can give me some answers with regards to Hayward. Truthfully, Griffin is practically the only friend Hayward's got.
Kendall: "Friend" is a stretch.
Ryan: Ok, fine. Then he's pretty much the only guy on the planet who doesn't hate David intensely. Either way, I need to find out how Hayward coerced your mother into partnership and who knows what else.
Bianca: Is there something else besides the hospital? Talk to me now. I don't care who starts.
Kendall: Uh, it seems our mother spent the night with David in his hotel room.
Colby: Hi. I'm guessing you're here to see Maya? Oh. Well, perfect timing.
Colby: Oh. Here. I'll help. Here.
Asher: Sorry about that jaw.
Mookie: You got a serious right, but it's cool.
Asher: It should've been for her ex, so --
Mookie: Not a problem.
Colby: We're gonna go to a doctor's appointment. We have to go. See you later. Bye.
Maya: I told you about coming here while I'm working. And aren't you supposed to be on your way back to New York?
Mookie: Changed my mind. Since you won't go with me, I'm staying. Am I a great boyfriend or what?
Tad: I've messed up more relationships and marriages than I ever got right. I was always just the wrong guy -- too selfish, never the kind of person that a woman could count on for the long haul -- and I'm not proud of that.
Cara: Ok, but you're not that guy anymore.
Tad: I know. See, that's the problem: I think I'm not sure. Because this marriage was supposed to -- it was supposed to be the chance to do something right, do something good.
Cara: Ok. You kept me from being deported. My life isn't in danger because of you.
Tad: That's not what I mean. You see, I was supposed to be doing something selfless, something with nothing in it for me. I was just a guy trying to help somebody -- somebody wonderful, somebody who needed help -- and then -- here we are.
Cara: Where is that?
Tad: I know this marriage was supposed to be a deal. It was supposed to be an arrangement in name only, but I got to be honest. I'm -- I'm not too comfortable with "in name only."
Bianca: Maybe he's using mom. But whether they were working or not, she must've known what that would do to Uncle Jack.
Kendall: Aren't you being a little harsh?
Bianca: I'm just so tired of people running away from someone who loves them, who can make them happy. Ok? I hope that you find Griff, that he's ok. Just tell me when you know something.
Ryan: What just happened?
Kendall: I have a feeling that had nothing to do with our mother.
J.R.: We talked a little. She gave me some advice. It's funny, right, taking love advice from a lesbian.
Marissa: What is that supposed to mean?
J.R.: Nothing. Love makes the world go round, right?
Marissa: Uh-huh. I guess I didn't realize that you guys had gotten so close.
J.R.: She wasn't happy when we started getting back together -- hell, she never even encouraged it -- but then something happened. She saw how much I loved you, how much I've changed, which I have. First time around, it was about me. But now it's about you. It's about us. It's about our family.
Marissa: Did Bianca advise you to say that?
J.R.: Ok, you're taking this entirely wrong. We talked once or twice, bounced some ideas off of her. She didn't tell me anything I wasn't gonna figure out by myself. When a man is in love with a woman as much as I am with you, he'll take all the help he can get.
J.R.: It's the office. I can take it later.
Marissa: No, no. Actually, I think I left my credit card at Krystal's.
J.R.: Are we ok?
Marissa: Yeah, we're all good.
Marissa: I'll be back.
Mookie: Since I'm staying, you don't have to work here anymore.
Maya: I like working here.
Mookie: Picking up dirty socks? You got so much more going on.
Scott: Yeah, that's unbelievable. I'll tell you what -- you can save the excuses, Bruce, because whatever J.R. is paying you not to show up must be working for you. You are fired.
Mookie: You need a replacement?
Scott: You know construction?
Mookie: I got a hammer for my fifth birthday.
Scott: You vouch for him?
Maya: Yeah. Sure.
Scott: When can you start?
Scott: All right. I'm gonna go down to the gatehouse. Meet me down there in 10 minutes. All right? Ok. Great.
Maya: What are you doing? You don't need the money.
Mookie: But now we can see each other every day. That's why I took it -- to be close to you.
Frankie: You were in a fight?
Colby: No. It was just one punch. He's been in a lot of pain since -- well, he can tell you about it.
Asher: I just popped a few extra pills to deal, and then I saw the "no refill" label on the back, so I figured you might be able to fix it.
Frankie: Hmm. Yeah. "No refill"? It's on there for a reason. If it says to take one every four hours, it means to take one. Not two, not three, one.
Asher: The pain's kicking my ass, man.
Frankie: Hey, I've been there, man -- hurt both my hands. I know how easy it is to pop a pill and make it all better. That's how you get in trouble.
Asher: It's not like I need them.
Frankie: That's why you're gonna be smart and wean yourself off. I'll refill the order, but this time for half the amount of pills. One every six hours this time, all right?
Asher: All right.
Colby: I'll make sure he sticks to it. Don't worry, Frankie.
Frankie: I bet you will.
Asher: Did you really have to make it seem like I was gonna pop all the pills without being watched?
Colby: I was just making sure that he knew I was looking out for you. That's all, ok? Ok? That's what couples do.
Colby: Come on. Let's go get a refill on your pills.
Tad: What the hell was I thinking? How could I possibly think I could pull this off? Everybody, everybody warned me about the whole playing a saint thing -- Krystal, Opal -- and they were right. And it's not just the gorgeous factor either. It's you. It's all of you. It's your heart and your soul, your love of family, your commitment to the people you care about. You inspire me. You make me smile. You make me laugh. How the hell is a guy supposed to fight something like that? Looks like I'm only human after all. Now the whole good deed thing is right out the window.
Cara: No, no. You saved my life, ok -- more than that.
Tad: Do me a favor, ok, please? Please don't give me a list of all the things you're grateful for, because it's not helping. I got to be honest. Every single night that I go upstairs and you go down, it drives me crazy. I wonder what I got myself into, because I want something, and you don't.
Cara: Who says I don't?
J.R.: Scott? I just spoke to the contractor I hired to help you finish the gatehouse. You fired him?
Scott: Yeah, I did.
J.R.: He was one of the best.
Scott: Yeah, I'm sure he is. But I wouldn't know that because he never showed up, and at this rate, we would never have got the gatehouse done. But then again, that's what you wanted, right? You never wanted to see this gatehouse completed.
J.R.: Why would I care?
Scott: I don't know, J.R. Maybe it's a reminder of a time when the Chandlers weren't at each other's throats, when our dads lived on the same property and actually got along like family should.
J.R.: Listen, if you want to build a monument to something that wasn't nearly as golden as you remember it to be, go right ahead. But if you change your mind, I was thinking a nice little skate park for A.J. and his friends. What do you say, Uncle Scott?
Scott: Rebuilding our home is my way of honoring my dad, his compassion, his wisdom, his integrity, his -- I'm just trying to do my best to be like him, that's all.
J.R.: You think your prison time was being like him?
Scott: It's made me try harder to make him proud of me, that's all. I miss him every day. What I wouldn't give to have him here now, if only to remind me of what really matters.
J.R.: Yeah, we all miss him. I just think building this gatehouse is -- it's a waste.
Scott: You're unbelievable. Uncle Adam's gone, so now you're the man. You're the Chandler in charge.
J.R.: Yeah. You better get used to it.
Scott: J.R., you might live in his house, maybe run his company -- you have his name -- but you will never be half the man that Uncle Adam is, even with his faults.
J.R.: Who are you to talk, Scott?
Scott: And by the way, when I'm done, I'm moving in.
Ryan: Hey, what do you think the chances are that David has something to do with Griff going missing?
Kendall: Why would you think that?
Ryan: A shot in the dark?
Kendall: No, no. David was Griffin's mentor in med school. That's it, ok? End of connection.
Ryan: David will use anybody he possibly can, whether they're aware of it or not.
Kendall: Obviously you've got David on the brain.
Ryan: I do -- I do, because I know him.
Kendall: You don't know Griffin, not like I do. He would never fall for any of David's ridiculous head games. He's his own man, he makes his own decisions.
Ryan: Which, by the way, is pretty much the consensus on Erica, am I right, and yet Hayward's got her on the ropes. So, yeah, I'm checking every possibility no matter how remote.
Kendall: Griff is beyond remote, ok? He doesn't get caught up playing games. He doesn't get off screwing people over like David does. When he says something, he means it. When he makes a promise, he keeps it. Griffin's whole life has been about saving people. You should see him with his patients.
Ryan: Ok. You win. The guy's a saint -- except, of course, when he stole drugs.
Kendall: Yeah, that. Too much?
Ryan: Yeah, a little bit too much. But I still get your point. I still want to find the guy, ok, and I know you guys obviously are close. And so I'm wondering, do you have any idea where he could be?
Kendall: I wish I knew Griffin well enough to know why we wouldn't get on that plane.
Ryan: Let's go find out right now.
Krystal: Hey there! What brings you here?
Marissa: I needed to get out of the house.
Marissa: No. Yes. I don't know. It's not a big deal.
Krystal: That face tells me that it is. Listen, the only way that I can offer you my fabulously wise and always correct advice is if you tell me what's going on.
Marissa: No, it's all right.
Krystal: Hold that thought, ok? Krystal's. Yeah, I got the order right here. You said four strawberry and two peach, right?
Marissa's voice: What has she done?
J.R.: She hasn't don't anything. I don't know. We talked a little. She gave me some advice. It's funny, right, taking love advice from a lesbian.
Cara: This could've just been two people sharing space while they served a three-year sentence. However, you made this fun. You made me feel like part of the family. You've been good to me. How can I not be grateful?
Tad: Enough with the grateful. "Grateful" is how we got here. Ixnay on the grateful.
Cara: I don't know what I'm saying here, ok? We're friends -- yes, we're more than friends -- and I think that that friendship can lead to other things. Yes?
Tad: You hear yourself, right?
Tad: Sounds like you're trying to talk yourself into feelings that you just don't have.
Cara: I don't know what I'm feeling. I just don't know what's wrong with finding out.
Tad: Maybe I'm just too old-fashioned. I'd rather have a thank-you and a slap on the back than somebody I'm crazy about talking themself into a love connection, because they're grateful. I certainly don't want you in my bed for that reason -- that and others.
Cara: No, this is -- I'm over Jake, all right? He's got his life, and I've got mine.
Tad: I know, and that's what's killing me. You deserve to have a life. I understand how important family is to you, how much you deserve your own slice of happily ever after.
Cara: I think everybody wants that.
Tad: I know. That's what I'm talking about, ok? That kind of happiness, that kind of love, the thing that lasts forever, isn't something that can be cobbled together out of obligation or gratitude, ok? It's something that happens like magic between two people. Something they meet, and it's beyond their control, and it changes your life forever. Now, I've had it, and you've had it -- we both know that we've had it. So I just -- I guess I'm too proud to want either of us to settle for anything less.
J.R.: It's still on the Chandler estate.
Scott: Yeah. But, see, this patch of land, this gatehouse, it belonged to my father -- the one place behind the gates that wasn't filled with lies and games. So I will be free of the Chandler poison but close to the ones I love like A.J. and Colby.
J.R.: And Marissa, right?
Scott: Yeah. Marissa. She's gonna need someone on her side.
J.R.: We're back together, Scott. You might as well get used to it.
Scott: J.R., you worked her every step of the way.
J.R.: No one's working anyone.
Scott: Yeah, you don't stop. And Marissa, who's such a smart girl -- but when it comes to you, for some reason she keeps hoping and believing that she can trust you again.
J.R.: She can.
Scott: Yeah. Just in case, I'll be close if she needs me. And I will make sure you never hurt her again.
J.R.: You want to be a good neighbor? Stay out of my relationship with Marissa.
Scott: What's wrong, J.R., hmm? You afraid that I'm gonna convince her she's making a huge mistake trusting you again? Because she is.
Colby: Sorry. I'm gonna go check my vlog, and I'll see you by the pool?
Asher: You got it. Do you have my pills?
Colby: Yeah. You just took one, and you take another one in 5 hours and 15 minutes.
Asher: Right. No, I was just making sure you didn't leave them at the hospital.
Colby: Of course, I didn't. So I'll see you at the pool?
Colby: See you there.
Maya: Put it down.
Mookie: I'm just looking. You're kidding, right?
Maya: It's my job.
Maya: Mookie, don't.
Mookie: What's your problem?
Maya: If I get caught, then I can get fired.
Mookie: I'm sorry. What? I told you I'd never hit you again. Later.
Cara: How do we make this work if you have these feelings?
Tad: How do you feel about outfits?
Cara: Saved by the bell? Ha!
Tad: What's wrong? Did I miss a meeting?
Ryan: No. We're here to see Cara, actually. Hi.
Ryan: We're hoping that you could tell us where Griff is.
Kendall: Have you heard from him?
Cara: No, I haven't.
Kendall: Ok. Things have changed.
Ryan: According to the flight manifest, Griffin never actually got on the plane.
Cara: Ok. The courts think that he's doing his community service there, so he could be in violation if he doesn't show up, right?
Kendall: Yes. This is exactly why I'm worried. I thought maybe you heard from him since we saw each other last.
Cara: No. Still nothing. What do we do?
Marissa: Hey. I thought you were gonna be at the gallery opening with Sienna.
Bianca: It turns out we are not quite a match.
Marissa: I'm sorry.
Bianca: I'll survive. So are you meeting J.R. here?
Marissa: No. He's at home. There was some work crisis. He told me the strangest thing.
Bianca: J.R. has a talent for that.
Marissa: He said that you helped him, gave him advice on how to get me back?
Bianca: He told you?
Marissa: Yeah, because of you.
Marissa: You told him that honesty was the only way with me, so he was honest.
Bianca: I never figured that J.R. would want to share credit -- not that I mind. It's not that I wanted star billing or anything. I gave him that music box, because I knew how much that song meant to you. And then the orange soda and the doughnuts and the comedy club were just --
Marissa: Wait. That was all you?
Bianca: I thought you said J.R. told you.
Marissa: He told me that you gave him advice. I had no clue you -- why would you do that?
Tad: Your husband may be a wipeout at tamales, but lucky for you I'm still a halfway decent investigator. I'll call you when I find him.
Kendall: Oh, God, Tad, thank you so much. Thank you. You're the best.
Ryan: You are the best, and I'm gonna take care of some stuff on my end, too. Ok, we got to roll. We'll let ourselves out.
Cara: I can't thank -- ok. That's -- I'm gonna get to the hospital, all right, and not because I don't want to deal with this. I do. I just -- I mean, you're so important to me.
Tad: I know.
Cara: I don't know how to fix it.
Tad: It's my fault. I didn't mean to come on so strong. The last thing I ever wanted to do was make you feel uncomfortable, so I'm sorry.
Cara: No, don't apologize. I'm sorry.
Tad: Ok. We could sit around apologizing to each other forever, or we can figure out a way to make this work, and I think there's only one way that that's gonna happen.
J.R.: You want to get in Marissa's ear about me? Go right ahead. You are so qualified to judge my relationships. Oh, that's right. What happened with you and Madison? She dumped you.
J.R.: I'm glad you think it's funny. I do, too.
Scott: No, I don't think it's funny. I just realized that I'm not gonna say anything to Marissa. I think you'll screw that up all on your own.
Bianca: I'm sorry if you're upset that I helped J.R., but I saw how he was falling in love with you again, and it looked like you were falling just as hard.
Marissa: But there's a difference between helping somebody and manipulating a situation.
Bianca: But I saw the way that you looked at him and how happy you were when you and he were with A.J. as a family together again. I knew you wanted that.
Marissa: I thought he was finally paying attention to me and who I am. That J.R. was looking past J.R. and seeing me and knowing me.
Bianca: He does know you. I was just helping him with the details.
Marissa: So every time I thought that he did something special, because he knew that it was important to me or because he remembered that I liked it, that was you? You tracked down the music box with my dad's song?
Marissa: And the comedy club? And the picnic with the doughnuts and the orange soda. I knew I didn't tell him about that. I knew it. He swore that I did and that I forgot about it, but it was a lie. Same old J.R.
Bianca: No, J.R. loves you. That is not a lie.
Marissa: All this time you were acting like my friend --
Bianca: I am your friend.
Marissa: And being happy for me and acting surprised when you knew it was happening, because you were planning it. Why would you be a part -- can you give me one good reason why you would be a part of this?
Bianca: I helped J.R. do all those things, because I couldn't do them myself.
Kendall: Thanks for bringing me.
Ryan: Yeah. I got stuff I got to take care of here, too.
Kendall: I won't be long. It's just a meet-and-greet with the new doctor that Griff has on my case.
Ryan: Are you ok?
Kendall: Tad will find Griff.
Ryan: And I'm gonna do everything I can to help him.
Kendall: No, Ryan, no. You have enough going on. You've got Greenlee and Emma and work and David.
Ryan: I can handle it, ok?
Kendall: Right. I forgot. Right. Ryan Lavery, the multitasking hero.
Ryan: It's what I do.
Kendall's voice: Be careful! Ok?
Griffin: You just saved my life. You're very demanding. You know that?
Kendall: I've been told that, yes.
Griffin: This wouldn't happen to be a large quad-shot espresso, would it? That's my favorite. You know I had a feeling I'd be seeing you today?
Singer: And I don't take for granted --
Kendall's voice: Oh, please. Admit it. I am the best patient you have ever had!
Griffin: Oh, you definitely made things interesting, I'll give you that.
Kendall: 1 --
Kendall and Griffin: 2, 3 -- I'll miss you.
Griffin: See? Was that so hard?
Singer: And I believe that all these things will always be a part of this grateful heart
Marissa: You wanted to do all those things for me?
Bianca: This is exactly what I didn't want to happen. I helped J.R. because I helped him. And you're freaking out because in your mind, all you see is some lesbian with a crush.
Marissa: That is not true.
Bianca: I don't think that we should see each other for a little while.
Marissa: Maybe you're right.
Colby: Hey. You beat me out here. Do you want anything before I come out?
Asher: I hate to ask.
Asher: I'm kind of thirsty.
Colby: Two sodas coming right up.
Asher: All right.
Colby: Nice and cold.
Asher: Ah. Perfect.
Scott: Hey. What's going on?
Marissa: I wish I knew.
Scott: Are you all right?
Marissa: Yeah. Totally.
Scott: That's a good answer, except I know you: You're not. So I'm thinking you're gonna need to see a work of art in progress. The gatehouse -- you're gonna love what I've done.
Marissa: That I will.
Scott: Come on.
Ryan: Wait! Dr. Hayward left something on his desk for me to pick up.
Janitor: Sorry. I can't let you in.
Ryan: It's a large envelope right on his desk with my name on it.
Janitor: Dr. Hayward was real clear -- no one in his office but him, no exceptions.
Ryan: Ok. I understand. All right, Hayward, let's see what you got going on.
Tad: I started this thing to keep you safe. No strings. No -- just paper only, name only, and I think maybe that's the way we should keep it. No more forcing the issue. No more dates or kisses or holding hands. Just the end of the day, I go upstairs, you go down: Roommates.
Cara: And that's what you want?
Tad: I'll tell you what I don't want. I don't want to have to fix something that ain't broken. Let's just stick with the deal. Then after three years, we can just part ways with no hurt, no pain, and no guilt.
Cara: And you think that's going to be easy?
Tad: Maybe it has to be.
Cara: I should get to the hospital. My brother?
Tad: I'm on it.
Tad: Hey, Mollo. What's up? What are you doing? Twins? Huh. No, no. It's about something else. I need to find Griffin Castillo. Yeah, again. Is that a problem?
Nurse: Ok, your heart rate is still a little elevated.
Kendall: I'm fine, really.
Nurse: Ok. We'll let the doctor decide. He'll be in soon, ok?
Kendall: No, you know what? Forget the doctor, ok? I really am fine! Nurse!
