Annie: Hey. Anything I can help you with?
J.R.: No. Actually, everything's under control.
Annie: Great. Well, I was thinking maybe we could sneak off for an hour or two, have some alone time together. I was thinking maybe a sexy brunch.
J.R.: I'd love to, but I've got wall-to-wall meetings. I'm actually due at ConFusion right now.
Annie: Oh. Well, of course. The company needs you.
J.R.: I'll see you later.
Marissa: Find anything interesting?
Damon: Is that the one you needed?
Liza: Oh, yeah. That is perfect.
Damon: Do you remember what happened last time you worked nonstop without a break?
Liza: Listen to me. When you're prosecuting Erica Kane for murder, you don't stop and take breaks.
Damon: That's right. You're a type "A." I forgot.
Liza: Sorry. I'm sorry. It's just this time of year, you know.
Damon: What, you mean after the holidays?
Liza: Hmm, holidays. Were there holidays? Really? No, no, see, that's for people with family and friends. I don't have either of those right now. That sounded really maudlin, didn't it?
Damon: You do have family, you know.
Liza: Yes, only Colby doesn't want to have anything to do with me. I still have her Christmas present she never let me give her.
Damon: Well, maybe you should give it to her now. I'm gonna meet her for lunch in, like, a minute. Come on. We'll surprise her. She'll be pissed at first, but it'll be worth it.
Liza: Right. Unless it makes her hate me even more.
Asher: Oh, sorry. Hey.
Asher: I haven't seen you in a while.
Colby: Yeah. I've been really busy with school and everything.
Colby: So, J.R., he tells me you're really stepping up for him at work.
Asher: Yeah, well, he's been really good to me.
Colby: Well, you better be careful, Asher. Word might get around you're actually a pretty decent guy.
Asher: I wouldn't go that far.
Colby: I would. So, I have all this -- sorry.
Caleb: I'm working on getting the charges dropped completely.
Erica: As long as Kendall is not involved in any of this because any of this could trigger her memory, and she must never remember that she was the one who shot David.
Caleb: Dorothy, I've already told you we're together on that.
Erica: Good. As long as we're together. [Remembers kissing Caleb]
Kendall: [Sees David standing at the foot of her bed] Aaah! Aaah!
Griffin: Kendall, what is it? What's wrong?
Kendall: He was here.
Griffin: Who was here?
Kendall: David. He was standing right over me.
Griffin: No, no. It's just me.
Kendall: No. He was here.
Griffin: Hey, listen. You just woke up. Give it a few minutes.
Kendall: No. He was grinning at me like he knew something.
Griffin: Kendall, he's in a coma. There's no way he could have been in this room.
Kendall: No. It was like he was pointing at me, like he knew something.
Erica: Caleb, we need to talk about something.
Caleb: All right.
Erica: What happened between us?
Caleb: Well, let's just say it never happened.
Erica: But we both know that it did. And I just want to be sure that you understand why. My daughter Kendall was in the hospital, and I had just confided in you that Kendall was the one who really shot David. And I was an emotional wreck, and you were trying to comfort me.
Caleb: I crossed the line. I'm sorry.
Erica: Well, thank you for acknowledging that. So I'm thinking that maybe we shouldn't work so closely together. You know, anything I need to do I can do from home, and we could communicate by --
Erica: Caleb --
Caleb: Dorothy, you don't have to do this.
Damon: Come on! Let's just do it. She might be more open to seeing you than you think.
Liza: Ok. Ok, I'm gonna do it, but I'm telling you right now that if this doesn't work out, I am going to blame you.
Damon: Of course, you will.
Damon: Hey, it's me.
Colby: Damon. Hi.
Damon: Are we still up for lunch? Krystal's?
Colby: Um, yeah. Yeah, sure.
Damon: Cool. I'll see you there.
Colby: Ok. I'll see you then. Bye. Um, that was Damon.
Asher: Yeah, I heard.
Colby: He asked me to meet him for lunch.
Asher: Uh, no, thanks.
Colby: No, I wasn't inviting you.
Asher: I know. I'm just saying, you know, with all the hours that guy works, you could really use the face time.
Colby: No, no, no. Again, I wasn't inviting you.
Asher: Right. All right, later.
Colby: Thank you. I need my gloves.
Damon: We're all set.
Damon: Come on, look happy. This is a good thing.
Liza: Right. Isn't that what Marie Antoinette said right before they cut off her head?
[Music plays at ConFusion]
J.R.: I understand that I should have taken care of it before now. I just wanted to make sure that Annie was ready. To tell you the truth, I've been very busy. Yeah. Yeah, I'll take care of it.
Marissa: Are you out of your mind?
Annie: No. Perfectly calm and sane here. What's your problem this time?
Marissa: You, coming over here with the flu.
Annie: Not anymore. I'm better. It's gone.
Marissa: In less than 24 hours? J.R. has lymphoma, Annie.
Annie: Which is in remission, Marissa, thanks to me, remember? I saved his life.
Marissa: And now you're threatening it again just by being here. His immune system is compromised. He can't be around anyone who's sick.
Annie: And I just told you I'm not sick! You think I would ever put J.R. at risk? I would never do that! Do you understand?
Marissa: Yeah. I heard you.
Annie: Just -- excuse me. I resent people talking like they know about stuff they know nothing about. I just came here to work, which is what I'm doing. Ok?
Marissa: Um, well, is J.R. around?
Annie: He's in a meeting at ConFusion. He doesn't want to be bothered.
Marissa: Oh, he told you that, huh?
Annie: Yup. So why don't you just leave him the hell alone?
[Marissa walks out]
Erica: Caleb, I'm only suggesting that we work apart for a while, because I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable.
Caleb: I'm not uncomfortable.
Erica: You didn't find what happened just now with us awkward?
Caleb: Nope. Did you?
Erica: I just want to be sure that you understand that I still love Jack.
Erica: And that we're still getting married.
Erica: And as far as you and I are concerned --
Caleb: We're colleagues, we're partners. And you are still marrying Jack.
Kendall: It's David. I can't get him out of my head.
Griffin: I've noticed.
Kendall: You think I'm crazy, don't you? You think I'm gonna go over there, and I'm gonna have a pillow in my hand.
Griffin: I think that you need to get some rest so that your body can get rid of this infection.
Kendall: Why can't I stop obsessing about him?
Griffin: Because you blame him for your husband's death.
Kendall: Yes. No. I don't know.
Griffin: And your blood pressure is elevated again.
Rev. Torres: Maybe I can help with that.
Kendall: Ricky, hi.
Rev. Torres: Hi, Kendall. Doc.
Rev. Torres: Is this a bad time?
Griffin: It's fine.
Rev. Torres: Ok, so what's wrong?
Kendall: I woke up, and I saw something. I saw David Hayward standing over my bed. And I know it was probably just a hallucination, but it seemed so real to me. And it was like he was saying something.
Rev. Torres: About what?
Kendall: I don't know. Every time I think about Zach's death, it's like there's something missing.
Rev. Torres: Kendall, you're missing Zach.
Griffin: I'll be back.
Rev. Torres: I don't think he likes me.
Kendall: You know how doctors are.
Rev. Torres: Yeah. Look, these thoughts you're having about David, about what you've lost, they're holding you back.
Kendall: From what?
Rev. Torres: Well, from getting out of this hospital, for starters.
Kendall: I'm in the hospital, because I got pneumonia.
Rev. Torres: Yeah, yeah, I know. But from what I've seen, the whole mind/body/spiritual connection can do a lot of things, good and bad.
Kendall: So I gave myself pneumonia?
Rev. Torres: No. Not exactly. But you know what? You got it in you to beat this, to get home to your kids.
Kendall: All I have to do is stop imagining a sociopath standing over my bed.
Rev. Torres: Well, that and think about your kids, think about your life. Think about sledding and snowball fights and the Super Bowl party at the church.
Kendall: Super Bowl party?
Rev. Torres: Yeah, Super Bowl party. And I expect you to be there. And I expect you to eat wings.
Kendall: Well, that is quite an invitation.
Rev. Torres: It is.
Griffin: Ok, let's go.
Kendall: Uh, going where? Where are we going?
Griffin: Tests, and I'm taking you.
Rev. Torres: All right. Well, I will see you later, when you get home. Doc.
Kendall: Ok, so what are these tests?
Griffin: Actually, that's not where I want to take you.
Liza: See this work right here? This a very experienced paralegal would find challenging, and you just knocked it out of the park.
Damon: Wow. Do you mean that?
Liza: It's excellent work, Damon. It's really great. I'm not exactly sure how I managed without you.
Colby: Hi. I thought you were through with work.
Damon: Yeah, we're done. I just figured that your mom could join us.
Liza: Yeah. Come on, honey. It'll be my treat.
Colby: Um, was this your idea?
Damon: No. It wasn't.
Colby: Isn't it bad enough that you have Damon running around for you 8 days a week, and now you have to butt in on this?
Damon: No. I just figured that you and your mom could spend a little time together.
Liza: Honey, I don't want to fight anymore. I really don't. I've just missed you. I'm trying my best to try and repair this.
Colby: How can you when you have my boyfriend running around for you all the time?
Damon: I'm not running around. I'm not. I'm trying to build a career. You know, for us.
Colby: Us? Really, you honestly think that she cares about us?
Damon: Colby, I wish I could spend every waking moment with you, but I can't right now. I actually love what I'm doing for once, and I want to keep doing it.
Colby: Well, all right. I guess that lets you off the hook, then, doesn't it? Damon, you don't know my mom like I do. You're good, Mom, really good. But you don't fool me. Not anymore.
Annie: Doesn't anybody knock around here?
Asher: I do live here.
Annie: Right. Hey, you're good with computers, right?
Asher: I am.
Annie: I need you to help me.
Asher: What is it?
Annie: See, my password is just not working on this thing.
Asher: Well, it might be because it's J.R.'s personal computer.
Annie: Yeah, but there are some business files that I really need to go through, so if you could just give me the password.
Asher: Yeah. But I should probably check with J.R. first.
Annie: No, no. Then forget it. The whole point was to not bother him.
Asher: It must be something pretty important.
Annie: Yeah, it is.
Asher: Well, maybe if you tell me what it is, then maybe I could help you out.
Annie: That's ok.
Asher: Relax. You don't have to put on a show for me. I know what's going on between you and J.R.
Marissa: I thought you were here for a meeting.
J.R.: Who told you that?
Marissa: It doesn't matter. Your oncologist's office still has my number in their file. Today's your 3-month checkup.
J.R.: I've had some things going on lately, like my business going to hell.
Marissa: That's no excuse.
J.R.: I'm fine, Marissa. I don't need a doctor telling me that. I know how I feel.
Marissa: So you're not worried at all?
Marissa: Ok. Just checking. You're the doctor. What?
J.R.: Just kind of pisses me off. You always can call me out when I'm full of it. Yeah, I am worried. You know, ever since the phone call last night, I've been online all morning looking for symptoms and reoccurrences and seeing if I have any of them.
J.R.: I don't know. Maybe that's the best answer. Not have a clue.
Marissa: J.R., I know how scary this is, having to face what happened to you last year. I can even understand wishing it away, pretending it never happened at all.
J.R.: And it can come back at any time, remission or otherwise.
Marissa: Wouldn't it be better now, if you could find out now, when they can still do something about it? And if they don't find anything, won't you be relieved?
J.R.: You know how I used to deal with this? With scotch. You know, it's a lot harder with your mind clear and your eyes wide open.
Marissa: Dr. Jones can still see you today. Hey. I'll go in with you.
Damon: I keep telling you this is my decision to go to school, work hard, become a lawyer, and you keep turning your guns on Liza like she's making me do all this.
Colby: I know you want this, and I really, really want this for you. I just wish that she wasn't involved, that's all.
Liza: Colby, honey, I'm bending over backwards here to just try and make things up to you.
Colby: Can you stop? I don't want you to, so stop, please. I'm fine.
Liza: Really? You're fine? You're fine with this relationship?
Colby: Yeah. This is the kind of relationship that we have, Mom, and I have completely accepted that, and I don't understand why you haven't.
Liza: Because I see more for us. Colby, honey, I know I have made mistakes. I have. I have made some stupid, hurtful mistakes, and I'm sorry.
Colby: I get it. You're sorry, fine.
Liza: Don't you remember? We used to have fun together. We used to have a lot of fun together. You remember movie manicure nights? Right? We laughed and we talked about everything. We did everything together.
Colby: Well, actually, that was a really long time ago.
Damon: Ok, but look, it's something to go on.
Liza: I've been there. I have been the one that has been there for you throughout everything.
Colby: Wait, I'm sorry. Are you slamming Dad now?
Liza: When was the last time that he called?
Colby: Mom, seriously, do not go there.
Liza: I'm just asking you, when was the last time you heard from your father?
Damon: This is a bad idea, Liza.
Liza: I am the one who has been there for you throughout everything.
Colby: The only reason I was ever away from Dad was because of you, because you took me away from him.
Liza: Yes, I did, for a very good reason.
Colby: And now you think that if you take Damon away from me, I'm gonna come running back to you. Well, Mom, you're wrong. You're wrong. Because I'm running the other way. Excuse me.
Damon: No, Colby. Colby, wait.
Annie: He told you?
Asher: J.R. trusts family. Don't worry. I'm not gonna tell anyone.
Annie: Well, you better not. And actually, it would be in your best interest to be particularly nice to me.
Asher: Really? How so?
Annie: J.R. and I are gonna be together soon for real and for good.
Asher: Good for you.
Annie: So if I ask you for something, it would pretty much be the same as him asking you. Do you get it? Are we clear?
Asher: Yes, ma'am.
Annie: You're a real smart ass, aren't you?
Asher: Nope. I'm just the guy that lives up the stairs and down the hallway.
Annie: Ok. Well, pretty soon I'm gonna be back in that master suite upstairs, so you better watch your tone with me.
Asher: Good luck with that.
Marissa: I have a good feeling about this.
J.R.: You care to sell me some of that? You know, this is gonna be my life from now on, sitting in some doctor's office wondering if I'm gonna see my son's next birthday. And that's the worst part of it, you know. Wondering what A.J. is gonna do --
J.R.: I know. It's depressing.
Marissa: No. It's human. Who wouldn't be scared? I actually think I understand you a little better now.
J.R.: Really? Want to fill me in?
Marissa: Well, you thought you were gonna die, and then you didn't. And ever since then you've been running a hundred miles an hour, grabbing at everything and anything you could get your hands on just so you could feel alive.
J.R.: And some of those things I shouldn't have grabbed. I know that now.
Marissa: What I'm saying is, you know, maybe it's time to slow down. Whatever the news is today, don't take it as an excuse to just rip through your life. You got a lot of people in your corner.
Doctor: We have your results.
Erica: I was just actually emphasizing to Caleb how very important it is to get my trial date moved up. Isn't that right, Caleb?
Caleb: Yes, that's right.
Erica: Because I have a wedding to plan, and I'm certainly not gonna let these ridiculous charges interfere with that.
Caleb: I'm gonna go check in with Liza.
Erica: Thank you.
Bianca: Please, please tell me I am imagining this.
Erica: Excuse me?
Bianca: You and Caleb.
Erica: What are you talking about?
Bianca: You and Caleb.
Erica: Work very well together.
Bianca: Mom, this is not the first time I've walked in on the two of you like that.
Erica: Walked in on us like what?
Bianca: You know, close, tense. You I know what I mean. And the two of you, you go out of your way to explain it all away, which only makes me believe even more that there is something going on. So is there?
Kendall: I'm fine.
Griffin: Ah, besides the whole imagining Dr. Hayward thing.
Kendall: I don't know if I should be talking to you about this.
Griffin: Because he was my mentor.
Kendall: You don't know him like I do. You don't know the things that he's capable of.
Griffin: I don't care about any of that. You're my patient, and I want you out of this hospital. And that's not gonna happen by just wanting it or by Reverend Ricky's pixie dust.
Kendall: You're taking me to David's room, aren't you?
Griffin: You think he's awake? Let's find out.
Erica: Look, I won't deny that there's a connection between us. We're business partners, he's my attorney. He saved my life, for heaven's sakes. But that's the extent of it.
Erica: You said that we both explain it all away. Well, what did he say?
Bianca: Caleb denies it, too.
Erica: Well, then that should answer all your questions.
Bianca: Well, yeah, it would if I believed him.
Erica: Well, why don't you believe him?
Bianca: I told you at the hospital. Caleb, he asked me to watch out for you. He clearly cares about you, Mom -- a lot.
Erica: It's very sweet. Look, it's possible that there's a small attraction on his part.
Bianca: I see. Just on his part.
Erica: Yes. You know, I am so late. I'm going to see your sister. So kiss the girls for me, ok? Bye.
Kendall: What are you doing?
Griffin: You can't stop thinking about him. He shows up in your head. He freaks you out. Your blood pressure gets elevated. That's more work for Dr. Castillo.
Kendall: Third person? Really?
Griffin: Listen, I just want to pump you full of medicine and get you out of here. But you got something else going on.
Kendall: Ricky thinks I need to let it go, and he's right.
Griffin: Ricky. I'll make sure to call him for a consult. It's time for you to face this.
Griffin: There he is, Kendall. Same way as he was when we brought him in. Take a good look, Kendall.
Kendall: I get it. I know he can't hurt me.
Griffin: Do you?
Kendall: Yes. I don't know why I can't let go.
Griffin: Go ahead. Do what you have to do, as long as there are no pillows involved.
Kendall: David, I want to know why. You were a doctor. You swore an oath to save lives. You had money, prestige, respect. You even had Greenlee for a while. I will never forgive you for what you've taken from me. My husband. My children's father. But I am done being your victim. I will not let you win. I'm finished with you. It's over. But it's not.
Annie: I'll remember this.
Asher: What? Did I say anything to offend you?
Colby: Oh, great, now my day is perfect.
Annie: I was just leaving.
Colby: Save it, Annie.
Asher: Hey, what's wrong?
Asher: Yeah, I can see that. Did you and Damon get into a fight or something?
Colby: Asher, I don't want to talk about anything. Why are you asking me questions? Don't.
Asher: All right, fine.
Colby: Did Lucretia -- did she make any food or anything?
Asher: I got a protein bar. So I'm guessing lunch didn't go very well.
Colby: Asher, I don't want to talk about it. Stop asking me questions.
Asher: Maybe I can help you.
Colby: No, you can't help me. I'm fine.
Asher: Hey, hey. Look, ever since we met, you've accused me of shutting down. Now you're shutting down. So, come on, Colby. Let's talk.
Damon: I'm sorry. I should have just left it alone.
Liza: You were just trying to help.
Damon: I would feel better if you took a swing at me or something.
Liza: Well, bringing up Adam, that was brilliant.
Damon: Listen, I'll talk to Colby. I'll figure it out.
Liza: Damon, please, just stay out of this.
Damon: It's hard for me seeing you hurting like this.
Liza: I will survive. I mean, that's what I do.
Doctor: Your counts are perfect. Still in remission. No signs of any cancer.
Marissa: What did I tell you?
J.R.: Thank you, Doctor. Thank you so much.
Doctor: And you won't have to do this for another six months.
J.R.: I know. And I will, though. I promise.
Doctor: Until then, enjoy your life.
Marissa: Thank you.
J.R.: Ah, yes!
Marissa: I am so happy for you.
J.R.: Thank you.
Marissa: Oh, I didn't do anything. I just made an appointment.
J.R.: No. You made me face the truth. And the truth is, I'm not gonna have to deal with this for another six months. I won't even have to think about it. So thank you is not even enough. [Hugs Marissa as Annie walks in]
Erica: Kendall? Well, where is she?
Griffin: You're still worried about him.
Kendall: Well, if he wasn't really in my room, then that means I hallucinated him.
Griffin: It sounds a lot less scary if you just call it a bad dream.
Kendall: No, but this wasn't a dream. This felt very real to me. I know I said I was done with David, but there's something missing. There's something still in my head about him. I just can't figure out what.
Colby: Well, it's about my mother.
Colby: Damon -- he invited her to lunch. I don't know, I guess he wanted to fix things between us.
Asher: Well, that doesn't sound so bad.
Colby: No, but you don't know my mother.
Asher: So what happened?
Colby: It doesn't really matter. Whatever.
Asher: Hey, come on, Colby. You've been trying to help me reconnect with my dad for weeks. Let me give it a shot. What did she do?
Colby: Well, my mother, she keeps on telling me how much she loves me, but what she's really trying to tell me is that my dad doesn't.
Asher: Come on, you know that's not true.
Colby: No, I don't. I don't know that at all.
Asher: Hey, hey, hey. [Hugs Colby] How could he not love you?
Damon: Look, I am gonna talk to Colby, ok?
Liza: Not about this and not about us. This is a lost cause.
Damon: Liza --
Liza: Damon, please.
Liza: Ok. This is not a good time.
Caleb: When is it ever a good time? I'm here to offer you a deal. Win-win for both of us. Erica Kane pleads guilty to negligent handling of a firearm, no jail time.
Liza: Really? Oh, wow. Ok. Well, let me go run off and go tell that to David. Oh, right. I can't because Erica shot him, and he's in a coma.
Caleb: Add a big fine if you want.
Liza: Which you'll pay for, of course, because of your big windfall.
Caleb: And community service if you like. That way you can brag about how you took the great Erica Kane down, made her clean toilets, just like you did her daughter.
Liza: What are you smoking? Some of that exotic mountain herb? The answer is no.
Caleb: I just thought I'd save you, me, and the state some time and some money.
Liza: You see, I offered you this deal way back when, and you looked at me, and you said there was no way in hell. My question is, what changed your mind?
Annie: Hey. What are you doing here? I thought you had a business lunch at ConFusion.
J.R.: I did. It was so productive, I simply forgot to eat.
Annie: So, who'd you meet for lunch?
J.R.: Board members. No one important.
Annie: Really? Liar! I know exactly where you were. You were at the hospital with sweet Marissa, holding on to her for dear life.
J.R.: Keep your voice down. What you think you saw is not the case.
Annie: Oh, yeah? So you're admitting that you lied?
Asher: I don't know your father or how he feels, but what I do know is how it feels to believe that nobody loves you. And when I look at you, in your beautiful face, I just can't imagine it. You're the most amazing person that I've ever met in my entire life. [Kisses Colby as Damon walks in]
Caleb: Look, it's time to get on with things. Erica's planning a wedding.
Liza: Really? That time of year again already?
Caleb: The family's been through enough.
Liza: So what? Am I really just supposed to give her a little slap on the wrist, "See you later"? No.
Caleb: You go to court, Erica gets the sympathy vote with her daughter in the hospital, having just lost her husband tragically.
Liza: Still no reason to shoot a man.
Caleb: A man who was trying to kill somebody else. You might want to take a look at a case that happened a few years ago in West Virginia. Similar circumstances. The D.A. was a decent guy. Good lawyer. And by the time we were done, they were calling me the D.A. killer. We don't have to go down that road. It's up to you.
Liza: I'm going to trial. I'm going to convict your client. No deal.
Caleb: Get ready to send out your resume.
Griffin: It makes sense that David would be in your head. You've been through hell, and he's been the cause of a lot of it.
Kendall: I don't know. It just feels like I'm missing something.
Griffin: What do you think that is?
Kendall: Well, if I knew what it was, then maybe I'd really believe this was all over with. Maybe he's the only one with the answer. What is it, David? Why can't I stop thinking about you?
